Few times in life do you get a chance like this. Big was never a man to give up a good opportunity or not take a chance. At this point in his life, honestly, what else did he have left to lose? As he stood there in her arms, he didn't know what to do. He gazed longingly into her beautiful brown eyes, he couldn't help but feeling a sense of completion, a sense of accomplishment. Something that he hadn't felt, to be brutally honest, in a very, very long time. Slowly, Big & Kate danced together in the pale moonlight, both secretly hoping this moment would never end. With melodic and harmonic sounds mixing together in the wind of the background, together, they sing. Big Evil: I wanna take that shot of Whiskey. I wanna smoke that ciggarette. I wanna smell that sweet addiction on my breath. I wanna ride across West Virginia in the backseat of a Cadillac. Y'know, some cowboys like me go out like that. So I need you. Like a needle needs a vein, like my Uncle Joe in Oklahoma needs the rain. I need you. Like a lighthouse on the coast, like the Father and the Son need the Holy Ghost. I need you. She lifts his head up off of his chest and retorts back to him. Kate Harrison: I wanna get lost in some corner booth in Cantina, Mexico. I wanna dance to the static of an AM radio. I wanna wrap the moon around us and lay beside you skin on skin. Makin' love til the sun comes up, til the sun goes down again. Cause I need you. Like a needle needs a vein, like my Uncle Joe in Oklahoma needs the rain. I need you. Like a light house on the coast, like the Father & the Son needs the Holy Ghost. I need you. They embrace together, holding each other tighter and tighter. They look back at each other, both realizing something at the same time. They lean in close together, both of their eyes closed, their hands shaking, and their hearts racing. Suddenly... Johnny Karisma: BIGZ, SNAP THE FUCK OUT OF IT! We re-join our most villanious of villans waking up out of a most romantic, and now upsetting, dream. Evil shakes his head and slaps himself in the face as Karisma's bent over staring at the World's Champion who's sat down, leaning back against the row of lockers. Johnny Karisma: You alright there, hoss? Big Evil: Me? Oh, I'm fine. Fine. Why? Johnny Karisma: Well, uh... Atkie comes walking out of the shower stalls in nothing but a towel. Without even looking at Big, he answers his question. Atkie: Because you were singing that damn Tim McGraw song again in your sleep. I could hear you all the way in the shower. Evil's face grows red with embarassment. Johnny Karisma: That's the fourth time this week you've fallen asleep in the locker room and sang that song. Boy, if I hadn't had one too many shots to the head tonight, I could swear you were in love. Karisma, who had gone back to changing, looks over to his side to see Big staring out into the distance again. Johnny Karisma: You're...not...in love, are ya Bigz? Evil continues to stare into the abyss, rubbing his chin hair, looking dazed. Johnny Karisma: God damnit. BIG. Evil jumps in his seat and shakes, looking around like a young child just diagnosed with tourrette's. Big Evil Hmm? Yes? What? Oh, me? In love? Only with Trish man. And you can bet your ass I'm not singin' no love songs about her. From across the room, Tomko, who's just finished getting dressed, poses a question. Tomko: How are things going between you and her? You guys back together or what? Big Evil: I guess so, I mean, we're talking to the lawyers about putting a stop to the divorce proceedings at least. That's a step in the right direction. Ashley's happy. Atkie: What about AJ? Big Evil: Shut-up. Atkie and Tomko laugh as Big rolls his eyes. Karisma puts his shirt on and then seems concerned. Johnny Karisma: ...What's wrong with AJ? Big Evil: Hmm? Oh, nothing, nothing. Karisma looks back at Big and stares at him. Big keeps looking back at Karisma, then back at the ground, until finally breaking. Big Evil: WHAT? Johnny Karisma: He's still an A+ fan, isn't he? Big Evil: ...Yes, damnit. The rest of Featured Attraction share in a good, hearty belly laugh at Big's expense. Johnny Karisma: Well, listen, it's no big deal. If it's anything to you, my little brother is a Daniel Sorbello fan. Evil kind of chuckles as Karisma puts his hand on Evil's shoulder. Johnny Karisma: Listen, don't worry about AJ, he'll grow out of it. And whatever you were dreaming about, well...stop it. Just finish getting ready. Me and you are gonna be late for our little dinner date. Big Evil: Yeah, Trish just texted me before we got in here. Did you find a date? Johnny Karisma: Oh, I found a date. Karisma smiles and chuckles a bit as he finishes putting his clothes on. Big Evil: Who? Karisma just continues laughing, almost borderline pervertedly at this point. Big Evil: You're sick, ya know that? Keeping secrets from me about the poontang you're trying to nail. You're sick. Evil gets up and closes his locker door, going into the shower stall. Johnny Karisma: How does that make me sick?! The scene fades. We rejoin our dastardly duo much later that evening at a fancy bar & grill restaurant in downtown San Antonio, Texas. Karisma and Evil are shown with their menus in front of them, discussing Karisma's date. Big Evil: I can't believe you brought her, are you sick in the head? Huh? Is there something wrong with you? Johnny Karisma: I don't see what the big deal is, man. She's a hot girl, I ran into her the other day, we exchanged numbers, and I asked her to come. So what? I still don't get why I'm sick. Big Evil: Just...just...because, you are. OK? Johnny Karisma: Oh come on now, it's not like you were dreaming about her this afternoon, were you? Hahaha. Big kinda rolls his eyes, knowing damn right well this is the girl he was dreaming about earlier. Karisma doesn't catch on. Voice: Uhh...boys? Karisma and Evil put down their menu's to see Trish Evil looking stunning and yet confused, and she's sitting right next to Karisma's date...Kate Harrison. Trish Evil: ...You guys ready to order? The waiter has been waiting for a few minutes now. Big Evil: Err, uh. Yeah. I'll have the New York Strip, medium rare, with a side of garlic mashed potatoes. And uh, a Sam Adams Irish Red if you have it on tap, tis the season. Johnny Karisma: Indeed. Erin go Bragh. I'll take a Casear Salad with the house dressing and a baked potato..and a...Water, to drink. Evil folds his hands in front of his face and fakes a cough. Big Evil: *cough*PUSSY*cough* Trish leans in under the table and kicks Big hard in the shin. Big Evil: OW! WHAT THE -- Trish: Big! Stop! Johnny Karisma: No, no. It's okay Trish. I'm used to it. I eat with this guy every day and he busts my balls about staying healthy and not drinking alcohol. It's okay. When he dies at 45, I'll be the one laughing. Big Evil: You WOULD laugh at my funeral. Kate Harrison: These boys, I tell you. You'd think they were the ones here on a date? Evil chokes a bit on his water and looks over at Kate. Big Evil: Please. There's only one person at this table that I wanna be here with. Karisma continues to scan the dessert menu. Johnny Karisma: Oh yeah? And who would that be? Karisma chuckles a bit. Evil raises his foot up under the table and then slams it down across the top of Johnny's foot. Johnny Karisma: AGHHHHHHHH! WHAT THE HELL, MAN?! Big Evil: What? What are you talkin' about? Karisma looks at Big, who's looking pissed, looks at Trish, who's not even paying attention and is, too, looking at the dessert menu, and then looks at Kate, who's looking at Big. Johnny Karisma: Oh. OHHHH. Oh I get it. Wait, that sucks. Trish Evil: What sucks? Big Evil: Nothing, honey. You look beautiful tonight, have I told you that yet? Trish puts down the dessert menu and looks at Big, kind of taken a back. Trish Evil: Yeah, about 5 times. What's going on here? Big Evil: ...What, a guy can't tell his wife she's beautiful? Trish Evil: Oh, now I'm your wife. Evil leans back in his chair and lets out a deep breath. Big Evi: Oh christ, here we go with that now. Hey, waiter! Bring us some coffee, too, this is going to be a long night! Johnny Karisma: Alright, ALRIGHT. Both of you just...STOP. Please? Just enjoy each other's company, enjoy my company, enjoy Kate's company. Just chill out and cherish these moments. Trish, instantaneously forgetting the altercation her and Big just had, immediately begins to ramble off in an incoherent, at least to Big, story about god knows what. It must be a good story because it has Kate and Johnny hooked. Not Big. Big, still leaned back in his chair, inconspicuously stares at the beautiful and gorgeous Kate from the corner of his eyes. Slowly, he starts to drift back into his day dream mode again, the same song playing in his head. Suddenly... Waiter: You're New York strip, sir. Big quickly shakes out of his daze and looks over to see the waiter holding his plate of steak and potatoes in his face. Evil quickly grabs it and apologizes for "day dreaming". Big Evil: Hey, uh, where's my beer? The waiter looks at it sitting in front of him, untouched, and condensating from sitting out for so long. Trish Evil: Big, he brought it almost ten minutes ago and you haven't touched it. Something's going on and I want to know. Big Evil: Nothing's going on! For the last time! Let's just eat our meals so I can get the hell out of here. Big goes to take a bite out of his steak when he feels all three sets of eyes on him. Kate's just staring, Johnny's got the "oh shit" face on and Trish's eyes are tearing up. Big Evil: Trish... Trish Evil: I've tried, Big. I keep trying, that's all I do is try. What else do you want? I know I'm not easy to deal with, but I planned this dinner so we would both feel comfortable, and now, you have me crying, making a scene in the middle of a restaurant in front of our friends. Thanks alot, Big. Big Evil: Trish, honey, come on, I didn't mean it like that. Trish stands up and picks her napkin up off her lap, tossing it down on the table and storming off. Big Evil: Shit. Shit, Shit, Shit. Sir, excuse me, can I get this to go please? Evil stands up and unlastens a money clip from his pocket, taking out a few 20's and putting them on the table. Big Evil: That should cover for me and her, I'm really sorry about this guys. Johnny, I'll see you tomorrow. Big bends down and whispers in Johnny's ear. To the naked eye, it looks like he's just hugging him. Big Evil: ...Don't do anything stupid. Don't be Rico fucking Suave. The comment kinda leaves a sour taste in Johnny's mouth as Big goes to walk off. He stops and locks eyes with Kate who just stares back. Big Evil: I'll see ya around, Kate. Kate doesn't know what to say at first. Kate Harrison: I'll, uh, I'll see you around too, there, Big. Evil looks around the restaurant one last time and then heads out, having all eyes locked on him. The scene fades out. We rejoin our Acclaimed Anti-Hero back at his house much later in the night, sitting in his lazyboy recliner. The lights are off in the house except for the glow of the TV. Leaned back and half undressed, Big holds the remote in one hand and a full glass of Scotch in the other. Trish has long since gone to bed. Infact, Big hasn't seen her since he's been home, which has never been a good sign. After all, she jsut "let him" move back into the house a few weeks ago, and already, he's thrown that down the toilet from the looks of it. He has something in the DVD player as he looks on intently. A graphic comes across the screen. HAPPY 5th WEDDING ANNIVERSARY, BIG & TRISH Big looks on intently, almost as if he's trying to go back in time and see where things went wrong, if there was ever, ever a chance. He goes back to 1999. The music in the video is what captivates him the most. It's not the same song that's been in his head, but it's just as intoxicating. It was their anniversary song. Baby, when I look at you With your hair falling down in your baby blues Standing there across the room I get so lost in the way you move It makes me reminisce, back to years ago On a night like this Teary-eyed, as you took my hand And I told you I'd be your man So many thing have come, so many things have gone One thing that's stayed the same is Our love's still going strong While watching flashing scenes of everything they did between 1999 and 2004, Big begins to get just a bit teary eyed. Pictures of birthdays, anniversaries, parties and other outings bring back what should be happy memories, but turn out to be more painful than anything else Big could have ever imagined. To try and fight the tears and emotion, Big takes a long, deep gulp of the Scotch, almost finishing it. Baby just look at us, all this time and we're still in love Something like this just don't exist between a Backwoods boy and a fairytale princess People said it would never work out But living dreams, we shattered all doubts Feels good to prove 'em wrong Livin' our love song Big leans back in his chair completely and lets out a sigh that almost breaks out into a sob. Tears start to pour down his face faster than he can drink the scotch, which don't get me wrong, he's doing plenty of that too. He quickly stops himself from breaking down into a mental, emotional mess and leans forward, shutting the TV and DVD player off. He looks around the now completely dark house, only catching the outlines of the things that are here because of his blood, his sweat, his tears, and most of all, his money. He looks to the steps to see if by any magical, movie chance, Trish is standing there, ready to collapse in his arms, having felt the same he way he did after watching their Anniversarry video. But alas, no happy ending. Big realizes this isn't a movie, it's real life, and it's time to make a real decision. As he gets up from his chair, he heads towards the middle of the house, either going to take the stairs up to the room to share with his wife, or the door to leave the house, possibly, for good. Who would've thought that the womanizer of all womanizer's would have this much of a difficult choice to make when it came to love? Before he makes his choice, he takes one last breath and has one final thought. "I really hope he did not take her home tonight." The scene fades. |

Karisma: Wild night, huh? Johnny Karisma and Kate Harrison are walking along San Antonio’s Riverwalk, observing the nightlife and enjoying the mildness of the weather. The Riverwalk resembled a Venitian canal if it were painted over in bright fiesta colors. Tiny lights hung on umbrellas over café tables, illuminating the faces of the people who sat at them. Kate: Yeah. More than a little awkward. Karisma: I don’t know what’s going on there; one minute they’re in love for life, the next they’re ready to rip each other’s throats out. Hell, I’m his best friend and I don’t know what the deal is half the time. Kate: I don’t know…I understand wanting to fight for something that you’ve invested so much in. Karisma: Or wondering when to pack it in. Or in your case, ending it with a punch to the face. Kate chuckles a little. Kate: I was irrational. I shouldn’t have done that to him. I could have ended it without the punch. Karisma: You could have, but would it have been as much fun? She is almost offended until she sees his grin and realizes he is only kidding. Kate: I was so angry at him. I asked him to do one thing for me and he couldn’t even do that. It’s when I knew that I’d never be a priority in his life, no matter what he told me. Karisma: (In a teasing tone) And is that what Kate is looking for? Real love? Kate: (shrugging) Well, sure. I grew up fairly non-traditionally, so I’ve always wanted a relationship with stability and love and passion and mutual respect. Karisma: That fairy tale bullshit? Kate: Nah. I know better than to think that exists. Or if it does, it’s only fleeting. I want something that’s deeper than that. When she looked at him she could see he wanted the same things too. The mystery was whom he wanted it with. They stop and lean against a rail looking down at the river, where couples drift along in small gondola-type boats. Did some of them already possess what she wanted to have? Karisma places a hand against the small of her back. Karisma: You look really pretty tonight, Kate. Kate: Thanks. I don’t get a chance to dress up much anymore. Between school and the hospital, I’ve barely had a chance to do much of anything else. Karisma: I still don’t understand why you gave up your career to do this… Kate: I dunno. I guess I just felt like doing something that would do a little good for other people as well as me. I have missed the road and the business too, though, so when Dolly offered me the medic spot I thought it would be a good chance to have the best of both worlds. So, here I am, at least for a little while. He applies a little more pressure to the small of her back. Karisma: Nice night, huh? Kate: Yeah, it’s not bad. And too bad you aren’t the one I’m fantasizing about enjoying it with, Johnny Karisma. Karisma: Look, would you like to go back to the hotel and maybe talk some more or something? She had a feeling that talking wasn’t what he had in mind, but she gave him props for being somewhat discreet. She wouldn’t lie and say she wasn’t tempted to just throw caution to the wind and ride along with whatever took place. It had been so long since she’d had any affection from any man, and she missed it, missed being kissed and touched and held close. Karisma certainly wasn’t painful to look at. He had a dark, bad-boy mystique that any number of women would find sexy. But when she looked at him she knew that it would be nothing more than a one-night stand. Johnny Karisma had one love in his life, and it was wrestling. Women were to satisfy physical needs and nothing more. And that was fine, but not what she wanted or needed for herself. Kate: Johnny, I’m sorry but I’m going to have to take a pass on this one. I’m….I’m still having a hard time getting over Rick. Ugh, she hated lying. She was over Rick, well over Rick. Their values and lifestyles clashed, and she knew that while they’d had some great times, it just wasn’t meant to be a permanent thing. But she couldn’t let Karisma know the real truth. He looks a little disappointed, but seems to shrug it off in fairly short order. There would always be a lady in the queue for him, so her rejection was no big deal. Still, it would have made for some great locker room discussion. Karisma: I understand. Look, let’s head back, huh? It’s been an odd night all around. She nods and they walk back towards the hotel and back to their respective lives. His priorities, her priorities. She couldn’t help but wonder if he was lying next to her right now. |
