NUMBER FIVE: Mitsuharu Misawa/Jun Akiyama vs Kenta Kobashi/Yoshihiro Takayama, NOAH (December 2nd)
This was fucking fucking epic. Kobashi returned and it sold out the Budokan, which NOAH failed to do since he left. In addition to be a spectacle and emotional rollercoaster of the highest magnitude, it did have some great storytelling of Akiyama and Kobashi still not getting along, and Kobashi owning Misawa. Also, it has the 2nd all time best dirty trick ever when Misawa elbows Kobashi in the KIDNEY after he got back from cancer there. The all time best dirty trick is Taue chokeslamming Misawa onto Kobashi's injured leg in a tag match, which is like the wrestling equivalent of ripping off someone's arm and throwing it at them.

Yeah, I'm going to tease you guys with this list.

IMO number 5 is like a 5 star match just an emotional roller coaster and one of my personal favorite matches possibly ever. The announcers/ the crowd/ the Wrestlers just such an emotional match that was amazing.

I have only managed to find highlights of that match up till now, but with the wonders of torrenting I will make sure I catch it in its entirety.

Oh and yeah, Simon!.. I said in the PM that I havn't marked as hard since Snitsky punting the baby when I saw Human Tornado crossfacing the hooker post-Benoit.. I forgot about the wonders of Kidney Punch. It beats Ass Punch as the most lethal move in rasslin history.

I'd say it's as lethal as Chris Bosh's Cock Punch, but Bosh is retired now, so yeah.

Again, in a normal year, the NOAH tag could very well be #1, but 2007 was an outstanding year, and there were 4 matches that made me feel something as well, and it's just that there happened to be 4 matches I liked better.

NUMBER FOUR: Mike Quackenbush vs Chuck Taylor vs Claudio Castagnoli, IWA-MS Ted Petty Invitational 2007 Night 2 (September 229th)
Let me set the stage. Mike Quackenbush is the sentimental favorite, getting to the semifinals twice, and the quarterfinals in 2006, and he promised to win this tournament this year. He got injured in the quarterfinals with a bad concussion, but said no to the hospital, and returned to win his semifinal and get here. Quackenbush hasn't beaten Claudio in a long time, and Claudio's the man who eliminated him last year. Chuck Taylor is the one-year long champion whose Omega Driver finisher has never been kicked out of and is a brutal headdrop. Once Quack conquers his demons with Claudio, it's Quack/Taylor, and the Omega Driver is hit. One. Two. QUACK KICKS OUT! Live, it was a complete mark out moment almost on the level of Punk: The Final Chapter, and moments later, the CHIKARA Special got shit done. So so so so fucking emotional to be a part of live that I think it completely clouds my judgment as to how it was technically as a match, and just as an epic moment. This is how you build up and protect a finishing move, and on the indies when they're kicked out of every other month, it was really something special here when Quack kicked out.

The opening moments of #5 were epic. Kobashi's music hit and the usually stoic Japanese fans flipped out. To me, this felt like the saving of NOAH. 2007 was a pretty tame year compared to past times in NOAH and it seems that since his return NOAH has been amazing.

Also not to mention the fact that he attempted to do the burning hammer which only he and Robbie Ellis are worthy of doing.

I'm glad to see that someone else likes the streetfight better then the ladder war as it shows me that it isn't entirely the live bias that causes me to love that match so much.

NUMBER THREE: CM Punk vs John Morrison, ECW on SciFi (September 4th)
I am a huge CM Punk fan. I have been since February 2005 when I first saw his WrestleRave promo, so I think I have more of a right than anyone to call Punk "my boy". And it's like seeing your boy grow up to see him get the big match, win the title, and have the crowd go insane for it. It truly is something special to watch, and my key element, emotion, caused me to repeatedly jump out of my seat and celebate when Punker won the ECW Title.

I think we always knew it would come down to Hero/Quack and Whitmer/Jacobs. It's not ROH vs CHIKARA, because then it'd be an easy answer for me. It's a question of which fucking awesome feud of the previous year or two was more on in their feud ender.

Good pick for #3, but I dare to challenge theat statement seeing as how I have been a Punk fan since Dec. of 2004 after seeing Joe/Punk II.

What I meant to say was mark. I saw Punk/Joe I in Dec of 2004 as well, but it was that promo that put me over the top on the guy.

The time has come.

NUMBER TWO!

...

Prepare yourself.

BJ Whitmer vs Jimmy Jacobs, ROH Supercard of Honor II (March 31st)

-The finale to the greatest ROH feud of all time, and it was the best brawl of the year. So so sooooooo epic and bloddy and violent and just full of hate and emotion. And the ending, good Gibson, the ending. Not to mention awesome shit like the spike battle and the opening minutes.

Which means that #1 is....

Chris Hero vs Mike Quackenbush
CHIKARA Anniversario?
May 26th
Hellertown, PA

-This is the climax to another 2 year storyline. Hero turned on Quack, stole his star pupils, cheated to win their grudge match, and then dodged him. Common wrestling angle, except that Hero dodged Quack for TWO YEARS, while their feud extended to stuff like Kingston/Hero, Akuma/Shane Storm, Claudio/Quack, Icarus/Jigsaw and the like, and they met in trios and atomicos matches and it was electric. So they finally met, and it was the biggest match in CHIKARA history. I did a long ass writeup of this on the old BQ and I wish I could replicate it word for word, but I can't. The more CHIKARA you see, the more rewarding this is, as you see that they don't go for the main finishes as the opponent has reversed them a million times. The ending is pretty special two, as it created the year's storylines in addition to ending this part of their feud.

That;s it folks, see you next year, or maybe in June for a list of the beest matches I've ever seen to celebrate my 10 years as a pro-wrestling fan.

Now feel free to argue about my list, or hate on the JAPONEEZE~! or INDEE wrestling.

Mori getting 28 surprises me.. I mean, yeah, I like him.. but I didn't know he had been in that many awesome stuff this year.

And I fully expected Hero or Los Brisquistadors to win it, not Claudio. I like him from what I've seen (The PAC match REALLY sold me on him, even if the Williams one dissapointed me), but it surprises me none the less.

Awesome stuff, However I find your lack of HUSTLE disturbing but the fact that you put Tim Donst Vs King in your top 10 makes me forget about all that.

I think I'm going to track down that Quack/Hero match if you put it over to this extent.

Cool list. See Simon the Briscoes are awesome more often than not :) I really like the list. There are a lot of matches that I rate differently but that is to be expected with any list. Very nicely done and congrats on putting this togethor.. I am pretty sure this is the biggest MOTY list anywhere on the net.

Yeah, I think it's more to the extent that the Briscoes more often than not are good-great, but aren't as good as hyped to be (i.e. the best team in the history of time since Holy Demon Army). I can't argue that in brawls, they're really really awesome, and it's in normal tags that I have issues with them. But apparently hating on them is cool now, even though I've been on that shit since like June-July of last summer. I'm a trendsetter I guess. Either that or RoHBots are retarded. Yuo know they hate Jimmy Jacobs now?

Also, Morishima had a lot of good matches and 3 or 4 AMAZING matches, same wwith the Briscoes, where as Claudio had lots of ***3/4-****1/4 stuff but not a lot of ****1/2+ stuff. Like if you look between 175 and 75-50, you'll see Claudio's name A LOT. Just because the Briscoes had the most matches as a team doesn't mean I support them now. Friends In Similar Tights ftw.
