WWF Champion: Hulk Hogan, Since 4/4/1993 WWF Intercontinental Champion: Shawn Michaels, Since 10/27/1992 WWF Tag Team Champions: Money Inc., Since 10/13/1992 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPIONS CURRENTLY WWF Monday Night Raw April 5th, 1993 New York, NY VINCE AND SAVAGE ARE AT RINGSIDE TOGETHER, AND ROB BARTLETT ISN'T THERE! FUCK YEAH! TONIGHT: Bam Bam vs. Virgil, Steiners vs. Beverlies, and Jerry Lawler makes his in-ring debut! Match #1: Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Virgil Virgil totally blows a dropkick early on, and when he's in control, the crowd chants, "VIRGIL SUCKS!" There's way too much Virgil offense in this for me to call it good, but Bam Bam was good when he was in control. Bam Bam finally ended it with the Diving Headbutt. * Jerry Lawler comes out for his debut match, and says that since he's The King, he's used to being treated with respect, and demands respect. He gets a loud "BURGER KING!" chant instead and says if they don't stop, he'll leave right now and not wrestle. They keep it up, and Lawler says he'll walk out if they say it again. They keep chanting it, so Lawler just walks off to the back. In a pretape, Mean Gene is with Mr. Fuji and Yokozuna, and Mr. Fuji says he's filing a formal complaint to Jack Tunney that Yokozuna vs. Hulk Hogan was not a sanctioned match, and his Yokozuna should be WWF Champion right now, because there was no contract and Yokozuna/Hogan for the WWF Title was never actually sanctioned by the WWF. Match #2: Bob Backlund vs. Kim Chee Backlund again ruled here. Hilarious dancing, good bumping and selling, but Kim Chee was not afraid to be the total definition of mediocre when he was in control. SLAM! STOMP! CHINLOCK! FUCK YEAH! Backlund caught him trying a Monkey Flip, and put on a Bridging O'Connor Roll to get the pin. *1/2 Match #3: Damien Demento vs. Jim Brunzell This sucks a dick, but is a backdrop for Rob Bartlett to call in and say he lost all his money and is stranded in Vegas. Vince pretends the connection is shot when Bartlett asks for help, and hangs up. Brunzell has a good comeback, but Demento soon wins with a knee drop. Fuck life. 3/4* Jerry Lawler tries to come back out for his match, but upon hearing the "BURGER KING!" chant again, he walks out. A hype video airs for the WrestleMania IX encore next Monday on PPV. Match #4: The Steiner Brothers vs. The Beverly Brothers This was even better than their first match at the Rumble. They had a really simple opening, but everything they did was based on building the roles of unstoppable power team vs. overmatched cheating prick heels. The Steiners owned the Bevs on the mat to begin, so Blake hit Rick with a Powerslam, and is all like "Haha yeah, I can do that stuff too, idiot." But then he celebrates too long and Rick hits him with an even more effective Powerslam, so they just take over on Scott with cheating. Some really good cheating, as well as super well done basic shit. Rick is not a great hot tag or anything, but he almost immediately tags back in to Scott, who hits the Frankensteiner to win. Great body of the match, but the shitty hot tag kind of sucked the life out of it. Raw really needs to be held in better arenas. *** Jerry Lawler comes back out to try the match a third time, and is about to leave, when his opponent Jim Powers has had enough and comes out to attack King on the floor to begin the match. Match #5: Jerry Lawler vs. Jim Powers This also rules. Lawler bumps around in amazing Lawler-ish fashion to make Powers look great, and then he takes over. Lawler is the best puncher in pro wrestling history, so that's clearly fun. Powers makes a mediocre comeback, but Lawler again bumps around for the jobber before hitting the Piledriver to win. He pulls the trunks on the cover even though Powers is clearly out, just to be a dick. **1/2 |

WWF Champion: Hulk Hogan, Since 4/4/1993 WWF Intercontinental Champion: Shawn Michaels, Since 10/27/1992 WWF Tag Team Champions: Money Inc., Since 10/13/1992 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPIONS CURRENTLY WWF Monday Night Raw April 12th, 1993 Poughkeepsie, NY In the back, Money Inc. pays off the Beverly Brothers to tell them everything they know about the Steiners. They say they're as strong and fast as they look, and the Frankensteiner is devastating, so they'll want to ground them as soon as possible, and avoid the Frankensteiner, because nobody survives that. ROB BARTLETT IS BACK SON OF A FAGGOT Money Inc. comes out and Irwin reminds everyone that there's only 3 days left for everyone to file their taxes, and they better not forget. Match #1: Scott Steiner vs. Irwin R. Schyster Both tag partners are at ringside for this. Nothing bad or good really happens in this, and it generally carries on. Scott hits the Tiger Bomb, but Ted DiBiase runs in to break it up for the DQ. **1/4 Rick comes in to fight Ted, and they have him set up for the Doomsday Bulldog, but The Beverly Brothers run down to stop it. They beat on Scott with Ted, and Ted holds Scott up. The Beverlies try a double clothesline, but Scott moves and they hit Ted! The Steiners leave, and the Beverlies help up Ted. He shoves them back and Money Inc. yells at them. They knock IRS to the floor and advance on Ted, but IRS comes around with the briefcase. They run him off too, and Money Inc. goes to the back. I can't wait for the Beverly Brothers to win the belts. WRESTLEMANIA IX ENCORE AFTER RAW FUCK YEAH! Match #2: Tatanka vs. Von Krus Krus is pretty terrible, blowing basic bumps. Doink watches from the ramp as he sprays fans with water, distracting from this bad match. He then leaves, forcing us to actually watch this, and Tatanka makes his usual comeback and wins with the Samoan Drop. I'm officially sick of Tatanka now. 3/4* THE WRESTLEMANIA REPORT~ shows up again as Sean Mooney hypes up the replay of the PPV after Raw. At ringside, Rob Bartlett has the mic and brings out his special interview guest, Luna Vachon. She grumbles a lot, but I can make out that she says she's erasing the line between genius and insanity and between beauty and beast. She says Sherri is a witch and yells at Rob Bartlett. Sherri comes out and says Luna is crazy, so Luna rationally responds that she is a bandit from the wild untamed future. Sherri attacks her, and they fight at ringside in wild fashion. They fight into the crowd and back to ringside, and officials come down to break it up. Slaughter picks up Luna and takes her to the back. Coming back, Savage is interviewing Sherri about the fight, but Luna runs back out and attacks her. They keep fighting, and get pulled apart again. Match #3: Papa Shango vs. Scott Taylor Pretty horrible squash, largely just a backdrop for Rob Bartlett stumbling back to the ring with his shirt torn. He collapses in front of the announce table, and Savage slaps him back to consciousness, and Shango wins with the Reverse Shoulderbreaker. 1/2* Match #4: Friar Ferguson vs. Chris Duffy Ferguson is a wrestler in an old-timey monk outfit. He is not very good, nor is Duffy. This keeps happening in very bad form for about 4-5 minutes, and by the end, the crowd is chanting for Bret Hart. Friar wins with a Standing Bonzai Drop. 1/4* At ringside, Vince McMahon announces the following for last week: -A special interview with Bret Hart -Razor Ramon vs. Virgil -The Beverly Brothers vs. Money Inc. Pretty shitty episode, which is disappointing as throughout March and the previous show, it felt like they really got a good format down. |

WWF Champion: Hulk Hogan, Since 4/4/1993 WWF Intercontinental Champion: Shawn Michaels, Since 10/27/1992 WWF Tag Team Champions: Money Inc., Since 10/13/1992 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPIONS CURRENTLY WWF Monday Night Raw April 19th, 1993 Poughkeepsie, NY In kind of a cool pretape, there's statements from both Money Inc. and The Beverly Brothers in a black room, and the way it's shot, it looks like they're facing each other, but we have no actual idea. Money Inc. says there's no way two bleach blond morons can bankrupt Money Inc. when the Megapowers couldn't do it. The Beverlies say they're going to show how much Money Inc. is really worth, and bankrupt them right here on MONDAY NIGHT RAAAAAAAAW~! Cue opening video. Match #1: Razor Ramon vs. Virgil Razor rules early on, and instead of working to counter a hammerlock and then a waistlock, he just walks to the ropes and touches the top rope to force a break in super dickish fashion. Apart from that amusing tactic, this was kind of a mess, due to them having no actual chemistry and botching up a ton of stuff. Razor seems almost afraid to actually take a hip toss bump, and he looked pretty bad here, despite being charismatic as fuck. Virgil missed a crossbody, and Razor won with the Razor's Edge. Razor not actually being very good in 1993 is pretty disappointing. *1/4 At ringside, Vince and Savage hype up Rob Bartlett's interview with Bret Hart later, but he refuses, due to being beat up last week when he did an interview. Match #2: Giant Gonzalez w/ Harvey Whippleman vs. L.A. Gore This was also really horrible. Both due to Gore being a disgustingly awful job guy and Gonzalez being Giant Gonzalez. He won with a horrible Chokeslam. 1/4* In a pretape, Luna Vachon cuts a promo about Sensational Sherri. She yells about mayhem and evil and about how Sherri got involved in her business at WrestleMania IX, and how she got what she deserved last week when she finally tore at Sherri's flesh and clothes and her very soul. She promises to haunt Sherri's very breath from this day forward. Crazy, but not as insane as her claiming to be a bandit from the future last week. Match #3: Tatanka vs. Art Thomas FUCK! STOP HAVING TATANKA MATCHES EVERY WEEK! SHIT! Art has really shitty punches and knees, and that's all his offense before Tatanka makes his comeback, and wins with the Samoan Drop. There's a roster of other and better guys who could use TV time in matches - Bret, Yoko, Shawn, Taker, Bam Bam, Steiners, etc. and yet this fuck is always on. 1/2* Match #4: Money Inc. vs. The Beverly Brothers This was weirdly laid out, but a great performance by the Beverly Brothers. Both teams cheated to begin, and then the Beverlies took over on the arm of Ted. Real good stuff, and acceptable selling from Ted. They did the same to IRS, but coming back from break, Money Inc. was in control. Which is always the weird thing about heel/heel matches, they can't ever decide who the situational babyface for the night is. The Beverlies came back, but Ted sidestepped one of them and they hit the other brother on the apron, allowing Ted to get a schoolboy to win. The Beverlies came out of this looking like the best heel team in the fed, and Money Inc. looked totally undeserving of the belts in a division with Steiners, Headshrinkers, and the Beverlies. **3/4 Vince McMahon is in the ring, and he introduces his next guest as a former WWF Champion after WrestleMania IX, and in the eyes of many, the People's Champion. Bret Hart! He comes out, and Vince talks about how Bret was an underdog against Yokozuna, but Bret says he's been an underdog most of his career, and as WWF Champion, he liked being an underdog. He says he's won and lost titles before, and he doesn't look or feel like a beaten man. He says he's making a hitlist on his way back up, and says Lex Luger is first. They show clips of Luger laying out Bret at the WrestleMania Brunch event and Bret says Luger's running around saying he cost him the belt, but he's not giving Luger any credit for that, and Vince brings up the ongoing investigation into Lex Luger's forearm. Bret says he's been hit a lot, since it comes with the job, but he's never been knocked out by one, and he thinks there's more than bone in that forearm. He says after that, it doesn't matter if it's Hulk Hogan or Yokozuna, because he was heading back to the top to take back the WWF Title that's rightfully his. Match #5: Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Phil Apollo Apollo is not a horrible jobber, so this is a fun squash. Doink is watching from the ramp again, and sprays fans with water. This goes on too long, but Bam Bam wins with the Diving Headbutt. *1/4 Post-match, Bam Bam hits another Diving Headbutt. Friar Ferguson comes out to check on Phil Apollo, and gets in Bam Bam's face when he tries to keep it up. He dropkicks Bam Bam out to the floor, and Bam Bam leaves. NEXT WEEK: Lex Luger vs. Crush |

Bret Hart vs. Bam Bam Bigelow, WWF Live - Barcelona, Spain (April 24th) This is pretty great. Bam Bam comes in with a taped up elbow, so Bret keeps going back to that early on, when he fails to knock down Bam Bam. One thing I always loved about Bret is the sense that he was always thinking and you could see his gameplans change in the match if they failed, and this is a good example. He finally knocks Bam Bam out to the floor, but he catches Bret jumping out to him, and rams him into the post. Bam Bam ramming Bret into the post again and doing Bret's taunt is really really great. Bam Bam's control on the back is a lot of fun too. Brutal shots, and Bret's selling and bumping was great. Bret made kind of a comeback, but not a huge one, due to the pain, but he seemed like he kind of forgot abouit the back near the end. He got a Victory Roll out of the corner to win. *** |

I found a good amount of Madison Square Garden fancams from 1993, so I'll post the ones before this point and the nreview them as they come. Bret Hart [c] vs. Bam Bam Bigelow [WWF Championship], WWF Live - Madison Square Garden (January 29th) Unlike the April match, Bret begins this trying to control Bam Bam more than anything, and when Bam Bam keeps running through him, he goes to the floor to try and figure something else out. This adds a lot to their April match, as, even though this is totally unrealistic for 1993, it seems like Bret's telling a two match story, since in April, he begins by trying to knock down Bam Bam and throw him off balance. They do the same transition to put Bam Bam on offense as April, but Bam Bam does a lot more work on the back in this. This also basically has the same finishing run, but with more no-selling by Bret. He wins with the Victory Roll, and the 4/24 match was better. **3/4 Jerry Lawler vs. Tito Santana, WWF Live - Madison Square Garden (March 21st) Before the match, Lawler addresses Tito as "wetback" and says he can save the beating tonight if he kisses Lawler's feet right now, but Tito refuses. This is all about getting Lawler over as an amazing chickenshit heel, and it's Jerry Lawler, so he rules at bumping around for Tito. He's generally solid as the generic ethnic babyface. Lawler spends a great amount of time heeling on the crowd and stalling due to "BURGER KING" chants. He comes back with a punch as Tito ducks down and hits the Piledriver, but he gets on the mic and tries to get the crowd to start a "WETBACK! WETBACK! WETBACK!" chant. It fails, so Lawler goes back to the match. Tito makes a comeback, but Lawler blocks a Sunset Flip by grabbing the ropes for the illegal leverage to pin. Total bullshit match, but highly entertaining bullshit match. **1/2 Bret Hart/Mr. Perfect vs. Razor Ramon/Lex Luger, WWF Live - Madison Square Garden (March 21st) Perfect RULES early on in this, in between bumping around for Razor and then cleaning house on Luger, both in amazing fashion. Bret gets in, and his section vs. Luger based on power vs. technique is pretty great too. Bret keeps going back to the arm, but Razor gets back in. Perfect and Bret work on Razor's leg, but he goes to the eyes. It keeps going in a great back and forth until Razor lowbridges Perfect out, and Perfect takes a brutal bump to the floor. Razor and Luger are good at controlling Perfect, and neither has to actually sell limbwork and 1993 Razor doesn't have to take bumps, so they're in their element. Bret's hot tag was really really good. Not so much super fiery like a Ricky Morton, Chris Benoit, Tommy Rogers, Jericho, etc., but really well laid out cleaning house segment in front of a white hot crowd. The finish was both bad and fantastic at once. The ref goes down and Bret gets a cradle on Razor. Luger rolls it over, and gets the ref up, but behind his back, Perfect rolls it back over, and Bret gets the 3 to win. Fantastic, because it's classic heel cheating being outsmarted, but bad because Razor wasn't moving around at all during this 20 second cradle, and then after 3, he pops up in surprise. Anyways, fantastic Bret & Perfect carryjob. ***1/4 |

WWF Champion: Hulk Hogan, Since 4/4/1993 WWF Intercontinental Champion: Shawn Michaels, Since 10/27/1992 WWF Tag Team Champions: Money Inc., Since 10/13/1992 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPIONS CURRENTLY WWF Monday Night Raw April 26th, 1993 New York, NY The commentary team is now Vince, Savage, and Heenan, as Rob Bartlett is FUCKING GONE FUCK YEEEEEEEEEAH! They hype up Luger vs. Crush tonight. Match #1: Mr. Perfect vs. Damien Demento Demento takes hilariously awful bumps, but Perfect is again great, for the most part. Perfect gets his knees up to block a splash, and hits the Perfect Plex to win. **1/4 The most amazing PSA EVER happens: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSZKUd1IF2c At ringside, Bobby Heenan reveals that a fan is going to propose to his girlfriend tonight. It's Paul Sos-something-owski, and I'm like 99% sure it's actually the infamous Green Lantern Fan. As Lex Luger comes out, Vince McMahon reveals that Jack Tunney's investigation has shown that Lex Luger has a steel plate in his forearm from 1991, and shows the x-rays, saying they can do nothing about it. Match #2: Lex Luger vs. Crush This isn't awful, but I would not ever call it a good match. They did a good job building up Crush as Luger's near-equal in strength early on, but Luger's control segment was a big bag of dull and boring. Crush was pretty awful at selling the pain or well, anything. He came back, but in the balcony, Doink showed up! Crush signaled for him to come down, but on the other balcony across the way, the other Doink was there. WHO IS REAL DOINK WHAT THE FUCK but then Luger knocks Crush out to the floor with the forearm, and he's KO'd, so Luger wins. Again, not a good match, but it could have been way worse. Great angle though. *3/4 At ringside, Vince & Co. announce the King of the Ring tournament, AND THEY ANNOUNCE DOINK VS. MR. PERFECT ON SUPERSTARS THIS WEEK IN A QUALIFYING MATCH! TO DAILYMOTION! Also, Luger vs. Backlund on Wrestling Challenge. GLF still hasn't worked up the balls to propose yet. We're all timing him, so he knows how annoying that is. Match #3: Mr. Hughes vs. Jason Knight Oh, great. Hughes is really really awful but he obviously wins. 1/4* Vince McMahon is in the ring, and he brings out WWF Intercontinental Champion Shawn Michaels. Vince says that sooner or later, Shawn will have to face Mr. Perfect, but next week, he'll defend against Hacksaw Jim Duggan. He asks Shawn why he's putting the belt on the line when Perfect is breathing down his neck, but first, Shawn says he's sick of coming to this building. He says he'll defend against anyone, including fat ugly people like Duggan. Vince shows clips of the Shawn/Perfect fight at WrestleMania, and Shawn says he put Perfect in the trash where he belongs. Mr. Perfect walks down the ramp, and officials try to stop him. He tries to climb up, but agents pull him away and Shawn cheaply kicks him in the face. Shawn runs away to the back, and Perfect sprints after him to the back. Clips air of an incident on Superstars. Bam Bam was grabbing at Sensational Sherri's hair on the interview set for some reason, but Tatanka ran out to save. They fought, and officials had to pull them apart. Later on the show, Tatanka was supposed to come out, but Bam Bam Bigelow laid him out in the back, and began to cut off Tatanka's hair with scissors. Match #4: Typhoon vs. Von Krus Typhoon again abuses his opponent using his big fat belly and Hacksaw Duggan calls in to talk about Shawn Michaels. He says it's his first title shot, so Shawn better be prepared TOUGH GUY HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. TOUGH GUY! Typhoon wins with a Splash. 3/4* Bobby Heenan gets up and makes fun of GLF and his woman. GLF asks the woman to marry her, and she foolishly says yes. At ringside, Vince and Savage hype up Kamala and The Headshrinkers in action, and Michaels vs. Duggan for the IC Title. |

Mr. Perfect vs. Doink The Clown [KOTR Qualifying Match], WWF Superstars (May 1st) This was pretty fun. Perfect worked on Doink's knee to begin, but then Doink posted him. He started working on the back, and then kind of forgot about the knee after a few good sells. They had a good finishing run full of nearfalls, and Perfect seemed unable to actually beat Doink. He caught him and had him hooked for the Perfect Plex, but the time limit expired, at what I can assume would be 10 minutes, so it's a draw. **3/4 |

Lex Luger vs. Bob Backlund [KOTR Qualifying Match], WWF Wrestling Challenge (May 2nd) Backlund immediately goes nuts with cradles, and it's fantastic. Luger bails out and briefly takes back over with cheap tactics. Backlund makes an awesome comeback, and Luger's bumping for him is really good as well. Luger threw Backlund to the floor for a break, and when he got back up on the apron, Luger ran to hit him with the metal forearm. He took a big bump off the apron to the floor, and was KO'd due to the forearm, so Luger won by count-out. Awesome 4 minute match. **3/4 |

Another fancam! Bret Hart vs. Lex Luger, WWF Live - Providence, RI (May 2nd) Bret chased Luger all around to begin, and then beat him around the ring. Bret controlled the arm, and it was his usual basic but painful looking arm work. Luger got a cheap elbow on the break to take over, and pretty much completely forgot about his arm. He was pretty good in control though, and vicious at points. I just...I don't know, I guess I feel differently than the 1993 roster when I feel that if a body part is worked on for over a minute, you show that it hurts, even for a little bit. Luger's control segment seemed to go on too long, as he ran out of interesting stuff to do a few minute before Bret actually made the comeback. He made his usual fine comeback and shit, and Bret had on the Sharpshooter before Razor Ramon ran out to attack him for the DQ. This was disappointingly average. **1/2 They both beat on Bret, and Razor signals to Luger for the loaded forearm. He holds him up and Luger tries it, but Bret moves, and he KO's Razor! The file ends here, but I just assume that Bret ran both off? |

WWF Champion: Hulk Hogan, Since 4/4/1993 WWF Intercontinental Champion: Shawn Michaels, Since 10/27/1992 WWF Tag Team Champions: Money Inc., Since 10/13/1992 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPIONS CURRENTLY WWF Monday Night Raw May 3rd, 1993 New York, NY Match #1: Shawn Michaels [c] vs. Hacksaw Jim Duggan [WWF Intercontinental Championship] The crowd chants "USA!", finally coming to the conclusion that Shawn Michaels is out to destroy not only pro wrestling, but America as well. This is actually pretty fun, with Shawn bumping around like a retard before taking over. He cheats a lot, and Duggan's bumping is pretty good too. It goes on too long and gets repetitive, but it was fun. Shawn tries to bail, and Duggan fights him on the floor. They fight around ringside, and Duggan clotheslines Shawn over the railing. He gets back in before the ref gets to 10, and Duggan wins by countout. **1/2 Post-match, Duggan gets on the mic. He says the WWF does a lot right, but they got this wrong, and it's not fair that he beats a guy all around the ring and he can just take a hike to save his belt. So he's not leaving until he gets another piece of Shawn Michaels, TOUGH GUY! HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Duggan throws a chair in the ring, and sits down in the middle of the ring. Back from break, Duggan is still in the ring. At ringside, Vince & Co. announce that Hulk Hogan vs. Yokozuna for the WWF Championship has been signed for King of the Ring. It appears Duggan is gone now. Match #2: Doink The Clown vs. Kamikaze Kid Kid is Sean Waltman, making his debut, although his tights have lightning bolts all over them and say L. KID on the back. Pretty awesome mauling from Doink, including a Belly to Belly Suplex that I hadn't see him break out before, and a great STF. Doink wins with the Stump Puller. *3/4 Vince McMahon tells us that Hacksaw was persuaded to leave the ring, and is currently on the phone with Jack Tunney. Match #3: Bob Backlund vs. Duane Gill Backlund showcase with him forcing a jobber to do matwork, which is always really amusing. Backlund breaks out his ridiculous deadlift of an opponent in the middle of a Short Arm Scissors, which is amazing, and Backlund wins with an O'Connor Roll Bridge, while doing a double thumbs up at the same time. Bob Backlund is amazing. ** Vince McMahon is at ringside with the mic, and he brings Hacksaw Jim Duggan back out. He announces that it's officially Michaels/Duggan II next week for the IC Title in a LUMBERJACK MATCH! Duggan says Shawn spends more time on the outside than inside, and while Shawn Michaels sure is pretty, and can wrestle well, he can't fight worth a lick, and next week he's going to take the title, TOUGH GUY! Match #4: The Headshrinkers w/ Afa vs. Jay Sledge/Jim Bell The Samoans beat the shit out of the jobbers in really amazing fashion. Brutal bumping, epic Fatu Superkick, etc. Fatu hit his insane Flying Splash off the top to win. ** Yokozuna and Mr. Perfect are announced as lumberjacks for next week. Match #5: Kamala w/ Reverend Slick vs. Rich Myers Typical Kamala squash for under 2 minutes, and he wins with a Big Splash. 1/2* NEXT WEEK: Bam Bam vs. Typhoon in a KOTR Qualifying Match |

WWF Champion: Hulk Hogan, Since 4/4/1993 WWF Intercontinental Champion: Shawn Michaels, Since 10/27/1992 WWF Tag Team Champions: Money Inc., Since 10/13/1992 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPIONS CURRENTLY WWF Monday Night Raw May 10th, 1993 New York, NY EARLIER TONIGHT: Shawn Michaels was being interviewed by Lord Alfred Hayes outside the arena, and Mr. Perfect came over and attacked him! They had a pretty great short fight, and Perfect threw Shawn onto the hood of a car. He punched at him but security ran over to pull apart both men before the credits. At ringside, Heenan yells that Perfect was paid off by Duggan to try and do a number on Shawn before the match tonight, but Vince and Savage say that's ridiculous. Match #1: Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Typhoon [KOTR Qualifying Match] FAT VS. FAT! BATTLE OF GIRTH! They didn't play that up nearly enough, but this was acceptable, with some good shots. Typhoon took a couple of sick head shots to the post from the apron, and Bam Bam got him up for a Samoan Drop in the ring. He then went up top and hit his badass Diving Headbutt to win. ** Vince & Co. announce Yokozuna vs. Kamala for next week. Match #2: Yokozuna w/ Mr. Fuji vs. PJ Walker Another just incredible squash. Yoko kills the jobber in amazingly brutal form, ending when he destroys the P Jizzle with the Bonzai Drop. I wish this was longer. *1/2 Mr. Perfect vs. Doink in a rematch is announced for Wrestling Challenge this Sunday, and since their last match was a draw, this will also be a KOTR Qualifying Match. Match #3: Mr. Perfect vs. Iron Mike Sharpe Another really fun Perfect showcase. Great chops from both men, and Perfect hit all his big athletic spots, for lack of a better term, perfectly. At ringside, Heenan started looking for porn on another TV instead of watching Mr. Perfect, and then back in the ring, Perfect won with the Perfect Plex. **1/4 Match #4: Mr. Hughes w/ Harvey Whippleman vs. Cannonball Kid Again, Kid is Waltman. He takes a few big bumps, which makes this better than the first Hughes squash, but still not anything good. Hughes hits a big Bossman Slam-type move to win. 3/4* The lumberjacks come out, and I can make out the following: Typhoon, Terry Taylor, Mr. Hughes, Bob Backlund, Yokozuna, Bam Bam Bigelow, Tatanka, Mr. Perfect, and surely there's more. Inexplicably, Duggan knocks down Yoko with a cheap shot right hand on his way to the ring. Vince says it's revenge for Yoko putting him out of action earlier in 1993, but when Yoko could cost him the IC Title here, it's pretty stupid to do that. Then again, it is Hacksaw Jim Duggan. Shawn Michaels comes out on crutches and in his street clothes from earlier. He shakes his head no and says he's hurt, but Mr. Perfect comes around behind him. He takes the crutches away, revealing that Shawn can stand just fine, and he throws Shawn in the ring, forcing him into the match in his street clothes. Match #5: Shawn Michaels [c] vs. Hacksaw Jim Duggan [WWF Intercontinental Championship - Lumberjack Match] This is like last week, but less good. Shawn bumps around a lot early on, but this lacks the awesome Hacksaw bumping of last week, in addition to going far too long at 15 minutes. It got pretty samey near the end with Hacksaw only doing punches and slams. I'm not really all about moves and shit, but he's doing the same two pieces of offense for 15 minutes without it being interesting or realy good or anything. Shawn throws Duggan out near Yoko, and he hits a Legdrop on Duggan on the floor. He rolls him in and Duggan is out. Shawn covers with one foot, but Perfect comes in to clothesline Shawn for a DQ. **1/4 Shawn and Perfect fight in the ring, and all the lumberjacks also fight, except Yoko, who just left. Hacksaw comes back in with the 2x4, and swings it around to run off everyone, and randomly hits Iron Mike Sharpe with it to end the show. HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO |

Mr. Perfect vs. Doink [KOTR Qualifying Match], WWF All American Wrestling (May 16th) Perfect immediately goes after Doink and like last week, he goes after the knee, and Gorilla plays up that Perfect wants to end it fast to avoid another time limit draw. Perfect's attack on the knee is great, and Doink fighting back with cheating while also selling the knee is amazing. Doink controls briefly but Perfect makes an awesome comeback. They just start throwing AMAZING swinging wild right hands at each other, and the bell AGAIN rings right before Perfect can hit the Perfect Plex, and it's another 10 minute draw. I love this feud. *** |

WWF Champion: Hulk Hogan, Since 4/4/1993 WWF Intercontinental Champion: Shawn Michaels, Since 10/27/1992 WWF Tag Team Champions: Money Inc., Since 10/13/1992 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPIONS CURRENTLY WWF Monday Night Raw May 17th, 1993 New York, NY At ringside, they hype up Tatanka and Razor Ramon in action, as well as an interview with Shawn Michaels, and Yokozuna vs. Kamala. In front of the building, Lord Alfred Hayes says earlier, he saw someone come into the building in a disguise and everyone in the building will be just as surprised as he was when they find out who it is. Match #1: The Smoking Gunns vs. Glenn Ruth/Tony Vadja The Gunns were, to my surprise, not horrible. They both looked like they were trying and had some acceptable arm work on Ruth. Vadja looked pretty horrible in this. The Gunns had a botchy finish, which saw Billy Back Dropping Ruth into Bart's arms. It looked like he'd lift him back up for a Powerbomb, but he just dropped him with an awkward Piledriver to win. * Vince McMahon is in the ring, and he brings out his guest, the WWF Intercontinental Champion, Shawn Michaels! Vince asks what he said to make Perfect attack him outside last week, but Shawn says that everyone can agree that Shawn Michaels is a man of his word. He says he said he would win the IC Title, and he did. He said he'd defend the belt all over the world, and he has. He says he said he's better than Perfect, took Mr. Perfect's best shot, and he's still here and still champion. He says he'll defend against literally anyone who wants a shot, and some guy hops over the railing. His face is covered with a hood, and Shawn says some fan wants a shot. BUT OH NO, IT'S MARTY JANNETTY! He asks if Shawn's a man of his word, and asks for a title match tonight! Shawn tries to beg off, but Vince keeps asking if he's a man of his word, so Shawn has to accept, and Marty leaves to go put his gear on. Great angle, but it might work better if THIS was when Marty came back from injury, and not at the end of 1992. Still, good shit. Match #2: Razor Ramon vs. The Kid Another totally meaningless squash match, of course. There's a HUGE "RAZOR" chant to begin, from the crowd. Razor beats the total dogshit out of Kid with some brutal chops, and Kid takes another nasty bump off of a Hip Toss. Razor misses a charge to the corner, and Kid hits a Moonsault AND KID PINS RAZOR 1-2-3 WAIT WHAT THE FUCK!? *3/4 Kid runs to the back in celebration and shock, and Razor can't believe it, and throws a fit in the ring. Match #3: Tatanka vs. Scott Taylor FUCK GODDAMNIT SON OF A FAGGOT FUCK I HATE TATANKA MATCHES NOW. This goes on way too long, and Tatanka wins with the Samoan Drop. 3/4* It's announced that Bret Hart will be in the King of the Ring tournament, entered into the first round due to not getting his WWF Title rematch in all the Hogan/Yokozuna controversy. Match #4: Yokozuna w/ Mr. Fuji vs. Kamala FAT BLACK SAVAGE VS. EVEN FATTER SAMOAN PRETENDING TO BE JAPANESE! BELLIES COLLIDE, AND IT RULES! During the match, Heenan says that Mr. Fuji told him that Yokozuna is trying to get bigger for King of the Ring, and all reports say that Hulk Hogan is trying to get leaner. Clearly, he's working out REALLY hard for the match, which is why he hasn't been on Raw since winning the WWF Title. Anyways, this is big man vs. big man, and it's a lot of fun. Kamala has Yoko reeling, but he cuts him off with a great uppercut. Fuji trips up Kamala, and Yoko hits the back splash in the corner and the Bonzai Drop to win. **1/4 Match #5: Shawn Michaels [c] vs. Marty Jannetty [WWF Intercontinental Championship] I hadn't seen this in years, but holy shit, this is way better than I remembered. Amazing 10 minute sprint, and it's not the total carryjob you might think. Career performance by Marty, as he's completely 100% on with his crazy bumping and offense. The first 4 or 5 minutes of this is at a total blistering pace, telling the story of Shawn being totally thrown off of his game, and both men are totally crisp with stuff that you wouldn't be shocked to see either man, especially Marty, fuck up completely with botches. Shawn tries to bail but Mr. Perfect comes out to block the ramp, so he has to go back in. Shawn finally does take over, and it's pretty good shit. Marty makes a great comeback, and Shawn has a few amazing bumps. The idea of a Flair corner bump followed by a straight fall off the apron to the floor is completely insane and Shawn deserves a ton of credit for having the balls to do that. Shawn hits the Superkick, but taunts Perfect instead of covering. He keeps it up, so Perfect throws his towel into Shawn's face, AND MARTY GETS AN INSIDE CRADLE TO WIN THE BELT FUCK YEAH FUCK YEAH FUCK YEAH THIS RULED! **** Marty celebrates all around with the IC Title, and Shawn can't believe it. Really great episode. |

This recently showed up on XWT Classics. Bret Hart vs. Lex Luger, WWF Live - Halifax, Novia Scotia (May 23rd) This is basically their 5/2 match but with better camera work since it's not a fancam, but a Coliseum Video shot. Bret works the arm, Luger ignores it when he takes over, Bret is great, etc. Bret's brawling was better here than on 5/2, so this is a better match, although still flawed due to Luger. This has the same finish too, with Bret having the Sharpshooter on Luger, and Razor Ramon runs out to break it up for the DQ. Same match, essentially, but with a better Bret performance. **3/4 Bret fights off both men, until Luger attacks from behind. Both men beat on him and Razor signals for Luger to hit the elbow. He takes off the elbow pad and runs, but Bret moves and Luger KO's Razor with the loaded elbow! Bret leaves, and Luger walks around. Razor slowly gets up, and Luger yells at him. Razor yells back, and he throws his toothpick at Luger to a pretty big pop! Before they can fight, referees run out to stop it, and Luger walks off to the back. |

WWF Champion: Hulk Hogan, Since 4/4/1993 WWF Intercontinental Champion: Marty Jannetty, Since 5/17/1993 WWF Tag Team Champions: Money Inc., Since 10/13/1992 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPIONS CURRENTLY WWF Monday Night Raw May 24th, 1993 New York, NY At ringside, they hype up Crush, Money Inc., and Adam Bomb in action, an interview with Razor Ramon, and Mr. Perfect vs. Doink in a KOTR Qualifying Match in a match where there must be a winner! Doink comes to the ring and crawls under the ring, but outside, Lord Alfred Hayes is with another Doink. He asks what he's doing, but Doink says this is just an illusion, sprays Hayes with water from his flower, and walks away. Back in the Manhattan Center, the same Doink crawls out from under the ring. I love Doink. Match #1: Mr. Perfect vs. Doink The Clown [KOTR Qualifying Match - There MUST Be A Winner] Hey, so this was really great. Some of the best matwork so far this year, and this is at least 50% trading holds on the mat, but it's super aggressive and full of struggle. Perfect goes for the leg again, and Doink sells it really well, probably his best selling in the three match series. Doink worked on the arm a little this time, leading to a number of cool spots where he'd have a hold on the arm and Perfect would get out by attacking Doink's knee. Perfect kind of forgot the arm, but Doink didn't do THAT much to it, overall, so I'm not super annoyed or anything. The real Doink crawled under the ring, and a fake Doink came out. He attacked Perfect in the ring, but Perfect caught him ducking his head too soon, and he hit the Perfect Plex on the fake Doink to win and finally qualify for KOTR. ***1/2 The real Doink comes out now, and both attack Perfect until Crush runs down. He cleans house on both Doinks in highly underwhelming fashion, and they bail. Before the next match, Money Inc. offers a fan $100 to shine Ted DiBiase's boots. He does it, but IRS says it's his job to take 70% of that, and the fan only gets $30. Hahahahahahahahahha, <3 Money Inc. Vince announces an almost epic 8 man for King of the Ring with Money Inc./The Headshrinkers vs. Steiners/Smoking Gunns. Match #2: Money Inc. vs. Mike Bell/Tony DeVito MORE FUTURE CARNAGE CREW! But right now, the team is only named Bell Biv DeVito, so that sucks. The jobbers are solid in this, and Money Inc. appear to be on their games. The sound is weirdly off on this, and IRS wins with his Jumping Clothesline on DeVito. *1/2 Match #3: Crush vs. Bobby Who The sound issue continues, but gets worse so that the audio comes 5 seconds before the video, making it unwatchable. Assume that Crush won. Other stuff on this episode: -Razor Ramon offered the Kid $2500 to give him a rematch so he could show it was a fluke -Adam Bomb def. Phil Apollo |

WWF Champion: Hulk Hogan, Since 4/4/1993 WWF Intercontinental Champion: Marty Jannetty, Since 5/17/1993 WWF Tag Team Champions: Money Inc., Since 10/13/1992 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPIONS CURRENTLY WWF Monday Night Raw May 31st, 1993 New York, NY In front of the building, Hacksaw Jim Duggan says this episode of Raw on Memorial Day is dedicated to all the men of the armed services. HOOOOOOOOOO USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USSR USA USA USA USA USA USA! Match #1: Marty Jannetty [c] w/ Sensational Sherri vs. Bam Bam Bigelow w/ Luna Vachon [WWF Intercontinental Championship] Marty goes out of his way to show that two weeks ago was a total miracle match on his part by doing the same "inside" out flip bump for all of Bam Bam's big offense and botching a good amount of other stuff. He bumps around alright, but yeah, he's back to being Marty again. This got good at the end. Sherri grabbed Bam Bam's leg because cheating is cool, and Marty knocked him to the floor and hit a big Plancha. They fight and Bam Bam rolls Marty in, but is distracted by yelling at Sherri on the floor so Marty wins by count out. **1/2 Post-match, Bam Bam attacks Marty and kills him with an AWESOME Back Senton before leaving. Referees and Sherri check on Marty as he holds his ribs. Coming back from break, Sherri gets back in the ring. She takes the mic and demands Luna Vachon right here and right now. She comes down to ringside, and they fight on the floor. Sherri knocks her down and gets back in the ring, but Bam Bam Bigelow has also come down, and he holds Sherri from behind. Luna comes back in and beats up Sherri as BBB holds Sherri still, but then Tatanka runs out for the save. Motherfucker. Match #2: The Steiner Brothers vs. Rich Myers/The Executioner Another amazing Steiners squash. A ton of brutal landings off throws and shit AND OH HOLY MOTHER OF FUCKING CHRIST THE STEINER SCREWDRIVER HAPPENS HERE JESUS SHIT! I've seen the move a million times and I know it's brutal as shit, but every single time, it's like watching a guy get paralyzed for the first time an you're like AHHHHHH OH FUCK HE FUCKING KILLED HIM. They then pull the jobber up and hit the Doomsday Bulldog just to make sure he never walks again. ** Match #3: Mr. Hughes vs. Bert Centeno Another horrible squash for Hughes. 1/2* Mr. Perfect vs. Mr. Hughes is announced for the KOTR Quarterfinals, along with Tatanka vs. Luger, Bret vs. Razor Ramon, and Duggan vs. Bam Bam. Match #4: Hacksaw Jim Duggan vs. Mark Thomas HOOOOOOOOOO. Body slam. USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA OLD GLORY KNEE DROP, etc. Duggan squash. 1/2* Post-match, Duggan leads the crowd in the Pledge. In a pretaped interview, the "1 2 3" Kid says he was watching WWF this past weekend with his grandparents and he saw that Mr. Ramon had upped the offer to $5000, but he can't accept it, knowing what would happen to him. Match #5: Razor Ramon vs. Tony Roy Pretty good squash. Razor is PISSED, so he beats the fuck out of a jobber in great form. Obviously, Razor wins with the Razor's Edge. *3/4 Back from break, Mr. Fuji & Yokozuna come to ringside. Vince McMahon yells at them for waving the Japanese flag on Memorial Day and Fuji claims he's never heard of it, but on 6/13, they'll celebrate Memorial Day by destroying a national hero, Hulk Hogan. Yokozuna speaks his first English with, "HULKAMANIA WILL DIE....BONZAI!" Vince says Yokozuna is set to be on The King's Court next week, but he wouldn't be surprised if Hulk Hogan didn't show up next week! Fuji says KOTR will mean a new WWF Champion. Everyone chants "USA!", and Duggan is up in the balcony waving around the American flag to end the show. |

WWF Champion: Hulk Hogan, Since 4/4/1993 WWF Intercontinental Champion: Shawn Michaels, Since 6/6/1993 WWF Tag Team Champions: Money Inc., Since 10/13/1992 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPIONS CURRENTLY WWF Monday Night Raw June 7th, 1993 New York, NY It's announced that Shawn Michaels regained the IC Title on a house show last night. NEW IC Champion Shawn Michaels comes out to open the show, along with some big dude behind him. He walks over to the commentary table and as Vince & Co. introduce the show, Shawn says he got an insurance policy and got himself a bodyguard. Vince announces Rick Steiner/Billy Gunn vs. IRS/Fatu. Match #1: Shawn Michaels vs. Russ Greenberg Shawn is not a very good squasher at all, seeing as his strengths at this point in 1993 lie in huge bumping and this is 98% him dominating. He wins with the Piledriver. 3/4* Post-match, Shawn Michaels vs. Crush for the IC Title at King of the Ring is announced. After the break, Shawn comes back out with his bodyguard, and yells at the announcers about the announcement. He says he should get time to celebrate being a two-time Intercontinental Champion instead of being thrown right in there against Crush. He yells that everyone is jealous of how good he is, and they walk off. Vince announces that Razor Ramon has upped the money to $7500 to get Kid back in the ring. Match #2: Adam Bomb w/ Johnny Polo vs. Tito Santana This is better than I expected, but not great or anything. Tito carryjob, with good armwork to begin and a good comeback. Adam Bomb totally no-sells the arm work to do slow and bland basic wrestling, and Tito comes back. Bomb kicks out of the Flying Burrito, and hits an awful looking Slingshot Clothesline from the apron back in for the win. ** Match #3: Tatanka vs. Peter Weeks Weeks is pretty fat but takes some awesome bumps and outworks Tatanka. Most notably is a brutal Hip Toss over the top with his back hitting the edge of the apron really really hard. Tatanka makes his comeback and wins with a shitty Tomahawk Chop off the top rope. 3/4* Jerry Lawler comes out to the side of the entrance way onto the set of The King's Court. His opening monologue is him shitting on New York by saying people here paint the trash cans red and gold so they can tell their kids that they're eating at McDonald's. HOLY SHIT WIN! He says whoever wins KOTR is just an imposter, because he's the only real King, and he brings on his guests tonight, Yokozuna and Mr. Fuji. Lawler hypes up Yokozuna, and Mr. Fuji says he has Yokozuna up to 550 pounds and they'll reclaim the belt Hogan stole at WrestleMania IX. BONZAI! Match #4: Rick Steiner/Billy Gunn vs. Irwin R. Schyster/Fatu All the tag team partners are also at ringside for this. IRS pays off Fatu to start the match, and he gives the $50 bill to Afa on the floor, and he eats it. AMAZING. Fatu vs. Gunn & Rick is solid, as he'll take great bumps. The control segment on Rick was pretty good stuff, and Billy got the hot tag. He's not very good at it, but he cleaned house. Ted DiBiase distracted him on the floor, and IRS hit a clothesline to the back of the head. Gunn fell throat-first into the ropes, and IRS got the pin to win. **1/2 NEXT WEEK: Doink The Clown vs. Marty Jannetty |

Bret Hart vs. Bob Backlund, WWF Live - Madison Square Garden (June 12th) This gets like 33 minutes, and Backlund hasn't lost in MSG in a million years. Backlund's awesome run of squashes on TV makes this even better, as he tries all his takedowns and basic stuff early on, but Bret avoids it or blocks it every time. The matwork in this is amazing, obviously. A great sense of struggle and every hold being fought over, and they go from respectful to aggressive very gradually and in believable fashion. Bret controlling the arm in some of the same ways Backlund used to (rolling through a slam to maintain an arm lock) was a great little touch in a battle between the former best mat technician and the new one. Backlund targets the knee to fight back, and there's a great period of switching between arm and knee work, again with it looking super hard fought. There's a great subtle thing of Bret hurting his knee in the "hold a hammerlock and knee guy in arm" spot, so he switches to using his other leg for it. Backlund did his amazing deadlift out of a short arm scissors. The guy recording this has his son with him, so you get awesome conversations between father and son about how pro wrestling works. And the child starts going NUTS in favor of Backlund, so when Backlund finally responds to Bret getting more aggressive by throwing an AWESOME forearm, the kid yells, "YEAH COME ON BOB!" The finish is kind of out of nowhere as Bret reverses the O'Connor Roll into one of his own to win, but other than that, this ruled. The slow pace made the semi-ignoring of hurt limbs more acceptable, because they'd been not worked on for minutes at a time, so more minor and subtle sells by both men (Bob not being able to deadlift initially because of the arm, Bret continually shaking out his leg when in control) were much more acceptable. Yeah, put a decent finish on this, and it's all time classic stuff. Bret beating Backlund in MSG is a pretty huge deal for Bret. ***3/4 Edited by Big Tuna, Jan 23 2011, 11:10 PM.
