WWF KING OF THE RING 1993
June 13th, 1993
Dayton, OH

JR, Savage, and Heenan are your announce team for the night.

Match #1: Bret Hart vs. Razor Ramon [KOTR Quarterfinals]
This was an improvement on their Rumble match, but still flawed because of Razor's continguing refusal to sell limbwork for reasons I don't get. Bret worked on his arm early on, but Razor ignored it when he took over. His control period and Bret's comeback were very good though, and they had a really good finishing run. Bret countered a Back Superplex into a Crossbody for the win, and he moved into the semi-finals.
**3/4

Clips air from Superstars of Giant Gonzalez and Mr. Hughes destroying The Undertaker on Harvey Whippleman's command. Hughes hit Taker with the urn a lot, and took it with him.

Match #2: Mr. Perfect vs. Mr. Hughes w/ Harvey Whippleman [KOTR Quarterfinals]
Hughes has the urn with him again. Perfect pretty much carries this with his bumping and offense, and Mr. Hughes is content to be a huge pile of shit. His bumping is god awful, so Perfect's comeback suffered as a result, and Hughes hit Perfect with Taker's urn for a DQ, so Perfect moves on.
*3/4

In the back, Mean Gene is with Yokozuna and Mr. Fuji. Fuji says Hogan stole the belt at WrestleMania but now he's facing a bigger and wiser Yokozuna. Fuji asks Yoko what he has to say, and Yoko says YOU HULK HOGAN. AMERICAN HERO. WILL GO DOWN. BONZAI.

Match #3: Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Hacksaw Jim Duggan [KOTR Quarterfinals]
ANOTHER "USA" CHANT EVEN THOUGH BOTH MEN ARE AMERICANS! FUCK! This lacked the two fat dudes colliding in a display of fat vs. fat, but otherwise, was fun. Duggan hurt his ribs, so they did a good amount of work based around that. Bam Bam's attacks were brutal, and Duggan sold it really well. He missed the Three Point Stance and took a straight-on head shot to the top turnbuckle, and Bam Bam hit the Diving Headbutt to win and advance
**3/4

In the back, Terry Taylor is now a babyface backstage announcer and is with the Steiners and Smoking Gunns. Billy Gunn talks about how it could be wild out there with eight guys, Scott Steiner says if he hits the Frankensteiner the match will be over, and Rick Steiner yells about the dog pound and stops mid-sentence to start barking.

Before the last Quarterfinal, Luger is forced to put an elbow pad over his steel forearm.

Match #4: Lex Luger vs. Tatanka [KOTR Qualifying Match]
They basically steal the opening of Bret/Luger, but Tatanka is not Bret Hart when it comes to matwork and Luger still refuses to sell his arm. The rest of this is pretty awful, kind of like taking a shit and trying to put it back inside yourself. This goes 15 minutes, because they didn't want either man to actually lose their first match, so it's a time limit draw. Which would be fine if either one was any good.
3/4*

Post-match, Luger throws off the elbow pad and KO's Tatanka with his forearm.

Both men are out of the tournament, and as a result, Bam Bam Bigelow gets a bye to the finals, where he'll fight the winner of Bret/Perfect.

In the back, Mean Gene is with Mr. Perfect and Bret Hart. They talk about the match, and Gene asks if their dads ever met. Bret says they did, and Stu won, but Perfect says Stu couldn't beat Larry Hennig on his best day, and he hasn't forgotten Summerslam 91, and he owes Bret. Gene asks about the match style, and Perfect says he'll do what he has to, because he's a winner. Bret says that he wasn't at SummerSlam, since he brought that up. Perfect says may the best man win, and offers his hand. Bret goes to shake, but Perfect pulls it back. He says he got him, just like he'll get him in the ring. Bret's music begins to play, so he walks off.

Match #5: Bret Hart vs. Mr. Perfect [KOTR Semi-Finals]
This is pretty famous for being a great match, so let's see if it holds up at all. And it totally does, so that is very pleasing. Bret has his fingers taped after the Quarterfinal, and they start with good matwork. Perfect has a great bump on a side headlock takeover, and Bret keeps scoring with it. Perfect starts getting aggressive now, and that's pretty great. He slowly lapses into old habits like hair pulling and cheap shots, and knocks Bret off the apron, injuring his leg. Perfect doesn't attack it, but Bret does a good job selling it. Bret fights back and targets Perfect's leg to even it out, and Perfect sells that really well too. So yeah, they keep going like this and getting more aggressive, and Perfect has an AMAZING counter as he blocks the Sharpshooter by grabbing the taped fingers of Bret and bending them. The finish sucked, as they did the inside cradle countered into an inside cradle spot, where Perfect doesn't struggle at all but then is shocked right after 3. Which I hate. But everything else was amazing, and Bret won.
****1/4

Post-match, Perfect is initially pissed, but they shake hands.

Bret Hart vs. Bam Bam Bigelow is set for the KOTR Finals later on.

In a pretape, Mean Gene is with WWF Champion Hulk Hogan and Jimmy Hart. Gene calls Hogan an American hero, "and perhaps the greatest hero in the history of the planet." He says he'll use his big guns to shoot Yoko and Fuji out of their nest and since there's no water around them in the heartland of America, there'll be no sneak attacks this time. This time? YOU'RE THEIH IOEH8R9YHE9RY9 FUCK GODDAMNIT FUCK HULK HOGAN. THIS IS WHERE THE POWER LIES! Jimmy Hart says Hogan has red, white, and blue running through his veins, and that he was born and raised in the US of A. WHATCHA GONNA DO WHEN AMERICA DESTROYS YOOOOOOOOUUUUUUU~!

Many Japanese photographers come out with Yokozuna to document the match.

Match #6: Hulk Hogan [c] w/ Jimmy Hart vs. Yokozuna w/ Mr. Fuji [WWF Championship]
This is what it is. Slow, monotonous, Hogan vs. Big Man. Hogan makes a comeback, and knocks Yoko down. Yokozuna kicks out of the Legdrop, and Hogan signals for another. One of the photographers gets up on the apron and his camera shoots a fireball at Hogan, but Hogan is a pussy, so it's a really weak fireball. Yoko knocks him down and hits a Legdrop to win back the title.
*1/4

Post-match, Yokozuna kills Hogan with the Banzai Drop just because.

In the back, Mean Gene is with IC Champion Shawn Michaels and random big dude. Gene asks what big dude's name is, but Shawn just calls him his insurance policy and says he does the talking. Shawn then says his name is Diesel.

Match #7: The Steiner Brothers/The Smoking Gunns vs. Money Inc./The Headshrinkers w/ Afa
This was okay, but it was mostly Smoking Gunns vs. IRS, which is fucking ridiculous when you have Steiners & Headshrinkers in there, who had the best tag match all year between two regular teams. I get all hyped when Bart's about to make a hot tag, and...he just tags in Billy, and nobody is thrown around. Ted gets the Million Dollar Dream on Billy, but lets it go to be a dick. He pulls Billy back up, but he gets a shitty inside cradle to win. I have no idea why this was worked the way that it was.
**

The heels try and attack, but now the Steiner Brothers finally come in and the faces run off the heels.

In the back, Mean Gene is with Yoko and Fuji. JACK FUCKING TUNNEY congratulates Yokozuna quickly and leaves, and Fuji said anyone in their path will go down like Hulkamania did tonight, and Fuji says they'll have a big celebration in America and details will come soon.

Match #8: Shawn Michaels [c] w/ Diesel vs. Crush [WWF Intercontinental Championship]
This is not a good match at all. Crush is BAAAAAD here, most likely worn out from walking to shows. Shawn cannot carry anyone at this point, although he has a few fun bumps. Crush fights back after a head injury, and two Doinks come out smoking cigars. Crush is distracted by this optical illusion and Shawn hits a horrible Superkick to the back of his head to retain the belt.
*1/2

In the back, Mean Gene is with Bam Bam Bigelow. He says he's fresh as a daisy and will be the first King of the Ring.

Match #9: Bret Hart vs. Bam Bam Bigelow [1993 King of the Ring Finals]
JR points out that Bam Bam's had 80+ minutes to rest after being in the ring for 8 minutes, but Bret's fought a total of 30+ minutes total with only 40 minutes to rest, which on top of Bret having hurt fingers and a bad knee sets them up for a great story. Bret goes right after Bam Bam to start to try and stun him early, but Bam Bam is fresh, so he quickly dominates. On top of the knee and fingers, Bam Bam hurts the back of Hart with an awesome Military Press throw to the floor, and he works on the back. The back work is nastier than their two other matches in 1993, with stuff like falling headbutts to the small of the back. Bret also does a great job of balancing exhaustion and back selling throughout Bam Bam's control segment. Bret briefly fights back on the floor, but Bam Bam rams him into the post and slams him on the ramp. He gets back in to distract the ref and Luna comes out to hit Bret in the back with a chair, and she runs to the back. Bam Bam gets him back in and hits a slam and Diving Headbutt AND BAM BAM PINS BRET FUCK YEAH BAM BAM IS KING! Earl Hebner runs out to show the first ref the news of Luna interfering, and the ref restarts the match! Bam Bam gets EVEN MORE vicious now, somehow. There's a great spot where Bret stumbles out off of an irish whip to the corner, totally out on his feet, and he leans against Bam Bam's chest, so Bam Bam yanks him up by the hair and HEADBUTTS HIM RIGHT IN THE FUCKING FACE. NOT THE FOREHEAD, BUT LIKE THE GODDAMN EYE AND NOSE. BAM BAM IS GOD. Bret ended up selling the exhaustion more than his back, and they did the same finishing run as 4/24 with Bret getting a Victory Roll to win. Bam Bam was AMAZING in this, and while Bret's back selling was lacking in the finishing run, he was at least selling the exhaustion of everything, so this is their best match together. Bret Hart is the 1993 King of the Ring.
***1/2

Bret Hart walks up to the stage for the coronation, and Mean Gene is waiting with a throne, cape, and scepter. He puts on the cape and holds the scepter, and Gene puts the crown on his head. Gene proclaims Bret Hart the official King of the Ring, but Jerry Lawler makes his way out, in his own crown and cape and with his own scepter. He says he's here to confront this pretender and tell the impostor that there's only one King in the WWF, and it's him. He says he might allow Bret to be Prince if he gets down on his hands and knees right now, bows, and kisses his feet. Bret says he's got a lot of guts when he didn't even ENTER the tournament. Bret says the only king that Lawler is is the Burger King, and that chant begins. Lawler responds by blindsiding Bret with his scepter and he stomps on Bret's crown. He beats on Bret some more, and throws the throne down on Bret's back! He keeps hitting Bret with the scepter and chokes him with it. He rips up the robe, and gets back on the mic. He says he gave Bret a chance before, but now he's going to make him kiss the feet of the one true King. Bret gets up on all fours near the steps and Lawler kicks him right in the mouth and Bret falls on his back down the steps. Lawler continues to stomp on Bret's crown as the PPV closes. AMAZING ANGLE.

WWF Champion: Yokozuna, Since 6/13/1993
WWF Intercontinental Champion: Shawn Michaels, Since 6/6/1993
WWF Tag Team Champions: Money Inc., Since 10/13/1992 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPIONS CURRENTLY

WWF Monday Night Raw
June 14th, 1993
New York, NY

Clips air of Yokozuna celebrating with the WWF Title after regaining it last night.

An interview airs that was recorded after KOTR between Gene and Yoko & Fuji. Gene asks why they're holding a celebration on American soil, and Fuji says that it's because Yoko won the belt in America. Gene asks when it will be and Fuji says that July 4th sounds good to him. Gene points out that this is America's birthday, so Fuji says they'll celebrate with everyone else. Fuji says it'll be held on a famous American landmark, and Gene accuses him of trying to desecrate the American holiday. Yokozuna yells "HULKAMANIA IS DEAD!" and they go into the credits. Amazing.

Match #1: Mr. Perfect vs. L.A. Gore
Gore is an AWFUL jobber. Bring back Tony DeVito. Gore's bumping is pretty stiff and awful, and he fails to do what a jobber should do, by making Perfect's offense look bad instead of good. Perfect is good as usual, and wins this showcase with the Perfect Plex. Gore dragged this down hugely. I've never hated a jobber this much. Fuck.
3/4*

Razor Ramon comes out to the ring with a bag of money, and Vince McMahon is in the ring on the mic. He talks about Razor's obsession with getting 1-2-3 Kid back in the ring, and Razor says he's figured it out and calls Kid "Stick Mang". He says Kid knows it was a fluke too because nobody can beat The Bad Guy, and Vince says everyone chants "1-2-3!" at Razor now, and he is not pleased. He says he's got $10,000 for Kid to fight him again and says with this kind of money, he could take care of his family all he wants. He says to come out in front of all his fans and let The Bad Guy prove it was a fluke. Vince asks what he'll do if he loses again, and Razor says to laugh it up, but Vince McMang, the Stick Mang, and everyone here knows that Razor Ramon is the main mang in the WWF, and no punk kid can stop him.

Doink comes out for his match and goes under the ring. He comes out on the other side, but is now wearing a jacket too and Vince claims this Doink is a fake one. Preposterous.

Match #2: Marty Jannetty vs. Doink The Clown
Marty was textbook undercard jobber in this, doing nothing bad, but doing absolutely nothing well either, and having nobody give a shit about him at all. Doink ruled though, as usual. He brought his great punches and dickish matwork, as well as a great control segment before Marty made a comeback. They started to fight on the floor, and as Marty hit a Superkick, the ref got to 10, and it was a double countout.
**1/2

Marty keeps beating on Doink, and he gets back in the ring. Doink tries to get back in, but another ref comes from the back to try and pull him away.

They hype up an awesome sounding match for WWF Mania: Bob Backlund/Tito Santana vs. The Headshrinkers. Unfortunately, youtube and dailymotion turned up nothing.

Match #3: Owen Hart vs. Dan Dubiel
Yay, Owen! This is a background for Vince to talk to 1-2-3 Kid on the phone. He's in Osaka, Japan and talks about how big Yokozuna's win was over there. Vince tells him about Razor's $10,000 offer and Kid says it's too much money not to do it, and he accepts Razor's challenge for next week. The actual match was a pretty solid Owen showcase, and he hits a Missile Dropkick and a Bridging Northern Lights Suplex to win.
**

They show the clips from Superstars of Giant Gonzalez and Mr. Hughes laying out The Undertaker and Hughes stealing the urn.

Before the main event, Bobby Heenan breaks the news that on the 4th of July, Mr. Fuji has issued an open challenge to any American professional athlete to try and slam Yokozuna during their championship celebration, and he says Fuji said that just like Hulk Hogan couldn't do it, no American athlete can slam Yokozuna.

Match #4: Jerry Lawler vs. Mark Thomas
Lawler wearing pink and black gear a night after destroying Bret Hart is why he rules. This is not as good as the first Lawler match on Raw, largely due to Thomas being awful. They employ some solid jobbers on Raw in 1993, they can do way better than Thomas and LA Gore. Lawler wins with the Piledriver.
*

NEXT WEEK: Marty vs. Doink in a BEST OF THREE FALLS MATCH! Also, Razor/Kid II.

WWF Intercontinental Champion: Shawn Michaels, Since 6/6/1993 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPION CURRENTLY
WWF Tag Team Champions: The Steiner Brothers, Since 6/19/1993

WWF Monday Night Raw
June 21st, 1993
Poughkeepsie, NY

Before the intro video, clips air of 1-2-3 Kid upsetting Razor Ramon on 5/17, hyping the rematch tonight.

Match #1: The Steiner Brothers vs. Reno Riggins/Barry Hardy
Vince announces that both Steiners have signed up to attempt to slam Yokozuna on July 4th. This is another fun squash, highlighting the new Tag Team Champions with their amazing throws and stuff. I thought Scott had killed Riggins a few times. Riggins and Hardy are both willing to die on offense, so they're perfect jobbers for the Steiners. Scott wins with the Frankensteiner on Reno, again murdering him.
**

I have to cap Doink's entrance, because Doink riding a unicycle to the ring = pro wrestling.

Posted Image

Match #2: Marty Jannetty vs. Doink The Clown [Best of Three Falls]
Doink is amazing in the first fall, and really all match. It begins with Doink trying to provoke Marty to lose his cool again, but Marty stays focused and embarrasses Doink repeatedly. Doink continues to have amazing punches. Marty mostly controls but misses a corner charge and hits the middle buckle dick-first. Doink goes up and hits a Flying Seated Senton to go up 1 fall to 0. Doink continues to rule, but Marty makes a shitty comeback. He did have a great Superkick, but followed it up with a horrible Flying Fistdrop to win the 2nd fall and even it up at 1-1. Doink goes after the leg now, and has a great Figure Four. Marty actually made an effort to sell here at least for a little bit, and the camera sees another Doink peeking out under the ring. Marty stops selling now, so there's that. Doink switches with the other Doink under the ring, and fresh Doink pins Marty with a Piledriver to win. Macho Man gets up to argue this, and pulls the real Doink out from under the ring to prove that the Doink that won didn't count, so the ref reverses the decision like a gay and Marty wins by DQ. Awesome Doink performance, but Marty drags this down hugely.
**3/4

Match #3: Mr. Hughes w/ Harvey Whippleman vs. Bobby Who

Hughes still has the urn. Hughes still is not good, and this is all him on offense.
1/2*

At ringside, they announce that Yokozuna's Bodyslam Challenge on July 4th will be on the deck of the U.S.S. Intrepid. They also say Crush will be there, and Vince says "you know who" is going to be there, as he points at Macho. I don't know why Macho couldn't just say he'll be there, so I'm assuming Lord Voldemort will try and slam Yokozuna.

Match #3: Razor Ramon vs. 1-2-3 Kid
Kid has an AWESOME flurry early on, but Razor catches him and hits the Fallaway Slam to take over. Kid takes a ton of brutal brutal bumps, and this rules. Razor beats the absolute dog shit out of Kid, but after Kid hits a Moonsault, he just grabs the bag of cash and leaves. Razor goes after him, and Kid runs to the back. Razor chases him through the back, and Kid gets outside and has a car waiting. He drives away with the $10,000 and the bell rings, counting out both men.
**1/2

Razor comes back to the ring, and says nobody steals from The Bad Guy, and he's going to find the Kid eventually.

Bob Backlund vs. Doink The Clown, WWF Wrestling Challenge (June 20th)
AMAZING AMATEUR WRESTLING TO BEGIN! This is basically four amazing minutes of them going back and forth on the mat before Doink got an inside cradle to win. So much fun.

There's no Raw file for 6/28, so here's the results:

WWF IC Champion Shawn Michaels (w/ Diesel) pinned Kamala at around the 11-minute mark with a superkick to the back of the head after the challenger became distracted by Diesel on the ring apron; after the bout, Diesel came to Michaels' aid by knocking Kamala out with a punch to the face before both men pounded and stomped on the challenger (Shawn Michaels: Hits From the Heartbreak Kid 1995)

The Smoking Gunns defeated Iron Mike Sharpe & Barry Horowitz

Adam Bomb defeated PJ Walker

Crush defeated Bastion Booger after three bodyslams

WWF Monday Night Raw
July 5th, 1993
New York, NY

At ringside, Vince McMahon hypes up footage from the STARS AND STRIPES CHALLENGE~ on the U.S.S. Intrepid, and shows footage...

It's a pretty cool scene with a ring up in a big public space, and Yokozuna stood in the ring for people to try and slam him. People who failed were: Lee Rouson of the New York Giants, Bob Backlund, Peter Taglianetti of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Scott Burrell of the Charlotte Hornets, Scott Steiner, Tatanka, Bill Fralic of the Detroit Faggots, Crush (although he got Yoko off his feet in the air), and lastly, Randy Savage. Vince talks about how Yokozuna has humiliated America and all of its athletes who failed to slam him. BUT THEN FROM THE SKY, A HELICOPTER CAME DOWN AND VINCE BEGINS TO SOUND LIKE HE'S CUMMING ON COMMENTARY AS LEX LUGER STEPS OUT AND WALKS TO THE RING! Luger says the only thing wrong with America is rice-eating leeches like them, and Fuji spat on his US flag shirt, so Luger threw Fuji out. Luger dodges a Yoko charge, hits him with the illegal steel forearm, AND BAH GAWD LUGER SLAMS YOKOZUNA BAH GAWD LUGER HAS DONE IT AND STOOD UP FOR AMERICA CUM NEW HOGAN CUM.

Back at Raw, Vince says Luger immediately challenged Yokozuna to a WWF Title match after the event yesterday, but Mr. Fuji quickly refused.

Match #1: 1-2-3 Kid vs. Blake Beverly
Hey so....THIS ACTUALLY WAS AWESOME! SHIT YEAH! The future X-Pac vs. Future Mike Enos delivers hugely thanks to some INSANE Kid bumps. He was really crisp with all his high flying too, and Blake had some brutal offensive moves to test out Kid's total willingness to die taking bumps. Blake missed a dive on the floor, and Kid hit a Flipping Senton, causing Vince to lose his shit. Back inside, Blake missed a Flying Splash, and Kid hit a Flying Legdrop to win.
***

Match #2: Bam Bam Bigelow w/ Luna Vachon vs. Joey Maggs

Bam Bam kills the future protege of Teddy Long on WCW Saturday Night, and it's over within a minute of the bell. Pretty great mauling while it lasted.
1/2*

Match #3: The Undertaker vs. Samu w/ Afa

Taker and Samu blow a leapfrog spot, proving they should not be doing it. They sell that Taker is lost without Bearer, but then he realizes he's the goddamned Undertaker and comes back with a Chokeslam and Tombstone to win. Would have been way better with Fatu, but whatever.
**

WWF Champion Yokozuna and Mr. Fuji come down to ringside for an interview with Vince McMahon. Mr. Fuji denies hearing "USA!" chants and says Luger cheated with the steel plate, which is a totally legitimate argument. Vince says Luger spoiled their celebration and Fuji calms down Yokozuna. Fuji claims it was only a Hip Toss and Vince asks him why he denied Luger a title shot, so Fuji again says Luger cheated with the steel plate. Vince asks if he'll give anyone else like KOTR winner Bret Hart a shot, and Fuji says his Yokozuna will take on anyone and take out anybody. Crush walks out, and says Lex Luger made him proud to be American yesterday. Crush says he's here to take that opportunity at a WWF Title match. Fuji denies making a challenge, but Yokozuna accepts for next week! Crush says he's proud to be an American, and he'll continue what Luger did and embarrass them by taking the WWF Title for himself and for his country BRAH. This is gonna be a barnburner.

SUMMERSLAM 1993: AUGUST 30TH ON PPV

Match #4: Mr. Perfect vs. Brian Costello
Costello is really bad, almost L.A. Gore level bad, and Pefect wins with the Perfect Plex in about a minute.

WWF Monday Raw
July 12th, 1993
New York, NY

Match #1: Yokozuna [c] w/ Mr. Fuji vs. Crush [WWF Championship]

Yoko is PISSED after Luger slammed him, and he does really well at getting that over with body language. Yoko is fantastic here with his bumping, to the point where you really buy into Crush as a threat for knocking Yoko to the floor after he's built it up. Crush isn't awful, which is an improvement for him, so I can assume he didn't have to walk to the show this time. He wasn't amazing or anything, but good enough for Yoko to carry the load. Crush made a big comeback and shit and Fuji knocked him off the top rope with the flag to the back. Yoko hit a really shitty legdrop and then won with the Bonzai Drop. Better than I expected, but still not great or anything. Had some rough spots in the middle.
**1/2

Post-match, Yokozuna hits another Bonzai Drop on Crush, and then a THIRD BONZAI DROP FUCK YEAH! to injure Crush badly. So he's out for a bit, yay! Tatanka runs out to try and save, but Yoko knocks him off the apron before he can get in, and hits A FOURTH MOTHERFUCKING BONZAI DROP HOW IS CRUSH EVEN ALIVE?! A bunch of jobbers come down to try and help, but Yoko throws them all out, especially Joey Maggs. Yoko goes back up for a fifth one, but Randy Savage gets in the ring now, and pulls Crush away and out to the floor. Tatanka helps him, and Crush is badly hurt on the floor as Heenan says this is all Lex Luger's fault.

Coming back, Crush is stretchered out of the Manhattan Center.

Match #2: The Headshrinkers w/ Afa vs. PJ Walker/Aaron Ferguson
PJ took some just incredible bumps in this, holy shit. Another amazing squash by the Headshrinkers, and Fatu hits his amazing Flying Splash on Aaron to win.
**

Steiners vs. Money Inc for the WWF Tag Titles is hyped up for Superstars next week.

A video plays, announcing Shawn Michaels vs. Marty Jannetty in a rematch for the IC Title next week on Raw.

Match #3: Tatanka vs. Brooklyn Brawler
Way too long, but usual Tatanka stuff. The Samoan Drop ends it.
3/4*

Before Mr. Hughes' match, a black wreath is delivered to ringside. It's addressed to Mr. Hughes and says REST IN PEACE on it. Oh shit.

Match #4: Mr. Hughes w/ Harvey Whippleman vs. Tony DeVito
FUCK YEAH TONY DEVITO CARNAGEPLEX MOTHERFUCKER! This match proves that there's a first time for everything, as I say to myself, "Wow, Tony DeVito carried that match" for the first time ever. I mean, it was a shitty match, but still. He did what he could with Hughes, before Hughes won.
1/2*

Hughes goes to the floor and destroys the wreath. He talks to the camera and says "UNDERTAKER, YOU WANT ME, YOU COME AND GET ME! YOU KNOW WHERE TA FIND ME, BOY!"

Match #5: Adam Bomb w/ Johnny Polo vs. Scott Atami
This is also not very good, but the jobber takes some great bumps. Adam Bomb won with a Powerbomb.
3/4*

NEXT WEEK: 1-2-3 Kid in action, Men on a Mission debut, and Shawn vs. Marty for the IC Title!

The Steiner Brothers [c] vs. Money Inc. [WWF Tag Team Championship], WWF Superstars (July 17th)
Really solid long-ish TV tag. I am annoyed as usual when the Steiners work IRS' arm and Ted's arm early on only for them to not sell it at all, but other than that, this ruled. Good Money Inc. control with great cheating, and awesome Steiner throws and offense. Ted was great with all the basic heel offense. The Steiners had a good hot tag, and Scott hit the Frankensteiner, but IRS hit him with the steel briefcase. He pulled Ted on top, and Money Inc. won the belts!
**3/4

They celebrate with the belts but another ref comes out to tell him what happened, so the ref reverses the decision and the Steiners win by DQ.

WWF Champion: Yokozuna, Since 6/13/1993
WWF Intercontinental Champion: Shawn Michaels, Since 6/6/1993 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPION CURRENTLY
WWF Tag Team Champions: The Steiner Brothers, Since 6/19/1993

WWF Monday Night Raw
July 19th, 1993
New York, NY

To begin the show, clips air from the press conference over the weekend with Lex Luger announcing a call to action for his fans to try and get him a WWF Title match. He says some people say it's not "cool" to be patriotic, and THAT'S WHY HE'S DRIVING AROUND THE COUNTRY IN THE LEX EXPRESS FUCK YEAH!

Match #1: Shawn Michaels [c] w/ Diesel vs. Marty Jannetty [WWF Intercontinental Championship:
This was good, but not nearly as good as their miracle match from May 17th. More slowly paced, but they avoided a lot of limbwork, so there's no selling flaws, and it's just two solid wrestlers wrestling. Marty got a 3 count off of a DDT, but Shawn's foot was on the rope for 3, so the ref restarted it. AMAZING finishing run in this. A lot of great counters and nearfalls, all done really cleanly and without any real flaws. Marty misses a Standing Crossbody and takes a big bump to the floor. Diesel rolls him back in, and Shawn covers to win.
***

Vince McMahon is in the ring and introduces Money Inc. They come out and Vince asks them about the Steiner Brothers, and IRS says they were robbed, and they have a rematch this weekend, and this time nothing will save the Steiners. Ted says speaking of losers, there's losers and REALLY big losers, and he can't think of a bigger loser than Razor Ramon. He talks about how Razor talks about all his machismo and then lets a punk kid get the best of him twice, and Razor Ramon walks out to the ring. Ted says he's not heartless and they can buy him some domestic work like cleaning their toilets and polishing their shoes and cares. Razor gets the mic and addresses them as Rich Mang and Tax Mang and says no way. He says he's done a lot of work with his hands, but chico, he does it for himself. Ted says everyone has a price and shows off a wad of cash, before dropping it at Razor's feet and saying "....even you", AND RAZOR SHOVES TED DOWN FUCK YEAH! Razor throws IRS down, and the crowd goes nuts. Razor leaves, and Ted gets back on the mic, saying nobody does that to Money Inc., and he'll make him pay. He challenges that snot nosed punk 1-2-3 Kid to a match and says he can wipe the mat with this kid and show Mr. Machismo what a real man can do.

Match #2: Men on a Mission w/ Oscar vs. Rich Myers/Hank Harris
Short squash for MOM, but Myers took some great bumps. Mabel hurling his fat around was awesome. He needs to face Yokozuna so I can mark out.
3/4*

Match #3: Bastion Booger vs. Scott Despres

AWFUL.
1/4*

A video airs to hype up Bret Hart vs. Bam Bam Bigelow next week.

The King's Court is set up, and Lawler has Tiny Tim as a guest and he berates him for awful clothes. Tim says he's not the Burger King, he's the Dairy Queen, so Lawler breaks his ukelele and says that's what he's going to do to Bret Hart when he gets a chance.

Match #4: 1-2-3 Kid vs. Chris Duffy
Money Inc. comes out to watch and Vince says Kid has accepted Ted's challenge for the future. Kid looks great again as usual, and Razor Ramon comes out through the crowd to watch at ringside. Kid wins with his Flying Legdrop.
*3/4

Kid goes to leave but sees Razor waiting near the announce table and Money Inc. on the ramp, so he hops the railing and leaves through the crowd. Razor and DiBiase talk shit to each other, and slowly walk over to the side of the ring. Razor throws his toothpick at Ted this time, and referees come down to hold them apart.

NEXT WEEK: Bret Hart vs. Bam Bam Bigelow

The Steiner Brothers [c] vs. Money Inc. [WWF Tag Team Championship], WWF Superstars (July 24th)
Better than last week due to them cutting out useless arm work. Steiners controlled until a cheap shot, you know the drill by this point. The control segment on Rick was good, and better than the one on Scott the week before. They kept cutting off the hot tag, until Scott got in and cleaned shit up. Everyone brawled on the floor, and the ref began counting out IRS and Scott. They both got up on the apron around 8, and IRS had Scott up for a Suplex, but dropped him inside the ring at 9, and IRS couldn't make it through the ropes before 10, so Money Inc. was counted out!

Jerry Lawler vs. Owen Hart, WWF Wrestling Challenge (July 25th)
Lawler tries to get Owen to kiss his feet, so Owen slaps the shit out of him to start. Lawler is again an amazing chickenshit heel to Owen's fiery babyface. Owen's offense all is super crisp and great, and Lawler rules at bumping around and stalling for a long time. Lawler manages to avoid Owen and send him into the post, and then hits a Piledriver to win at about 6 minutes.

New York, NY

In a pretape, Doink cuts a promo. Clips are shown from 6/21 when Macho Men helped the ref see that there were two Doinks, and Doink warns Macho Boy Randy Savage to never interfere in his matches again, and if he's a real good Macho Boy tonight, he'll have a real big surprise for him.

In the balcony of the Manhattan Center, Stu & Helen Hart are in the crowd.

Match #1: Bret Hart vs. Bam Bam Bigelow w/ Luna Vachon
This was good, but suffered from the same flaw as their other non-KOTR matches. Great big vs. little stuff early on, and Bam Bam ruled on offense. Bret had a really good comeback and Bam Bam's selling and eventual bumping was super great, but Bret pretty much ignored Bam Bam's focus on the back. Bret had Bam Bam Bigelow all set for the Sharpshooter, but Jerry Lawler walked onto the balcony with the mic and started to interview/mock Bret's mom and dad. Bret is obviously distracted and Lawler asks if Stu tried to collect accident insurance when Bret was born. Lawler announces that it's Bret vs. Lawler at SummerSlam, and Bret hops the railing to go up to the balcony, and BBB wins by countout.
**3/4

Lawler leaves, and by the time Bret gets up there, he's gone.

The Undertaker vs. Giant Gonzalez in something called a Rest In Peace Match is announced for SummerSlam.

Before the next match, another black wreath is delivered to ringside for Mr. Hughes.

Match #2: Mr. Hughes w/ Harvey Whippleman vs. Ross Greenberg
It's now Ross instead of Russ. Hughes is still horrible, although Ross takes some good bumps. The fans chant for Taker all match, and Hughes wins.
1/2*

WRESTLEMANIA: THE ALBUM. BUY IT!

Match #3: The Smoking Gunns vs. Duane Gill/Glenn Ruth
The Gunns looked pretty bad in this in terms of having no uncoordination, but Gill took some great bumps. The Gunns win, and their ridiculous Back Drop -> Piledriver finish looks better now.
1/2*

A hype video airs for Ludvig Borga, and he is not in love with the USA.

An interview from earlier today between Vince McMahon and Lex Luger airs. Luger says it's great to take the Lex Express through New York, where it all began on July 4th. Luger's total turnaround into happy babyface is so jarring and offputting, given how broad a jump it was from The Narcissist. They announce that Jack Tunney has responded to the slam and the Lex Express Challenge by booking Yokozuna vs. Lex Luger for the WWF Championship at SummerSlam. Luger says all he asked for was one opportunity, and Luger says there's a stipulation that he has to wear a forearm pad, and that's fine. Vince asks if he'll answer questions about his personal background in weeks to come, and Luger says he welcomes and will answer any tough questions, because they're in this together and he'll continue the Lex Express coast to coast until Auburn Hills, MI at SummerSlam 1993.

Match #4: Doink The Clown vs. Phil Apollo
Fun squash and Doink wins with his awesome Flying Seated Senton, which is now named the Whoopie Cushion.
*1/2

Post-match, Doink gets on the mic and calls MACHO BOY into the ring because he wants to talk to him face to face. Vince reminds him that they have to stay non-physical, and Doink goes out to the floor instead. Doink does an OOOOOOOOH YEAH and asks why Savage keeps interfering in his matches. Doink challenges him to face him in a match, and Vince tries to keep the peace, and Savage says he's thought about it and accepts, but Vince says they're out of time. Doink says he won't just see double vision, but he'll see triple vision AND ANOTHER DOINK IS IN THE RING AND ONE IN THE BALCONY! FUCK YEAH DOINK!

To open the show, footage airs from last week of Doink challenging Savage to a match, AND IT WILL HAPPEN TONIGHT! FUCK YEAH!

It's just Vince and Heenan tonight, due to Savage getting ready for his match.

In the back, Macho Man says he might just have his own surprise for Doink tonight if he tries to pull a fast one.

Vince announces that for SummerSlam, the Steiner Brothers have signed an open contract to face any team in a WWF Tag Title match.

Match #1: The Steiner Brothers vs. Duane Gill/Barry Horowitz
Usual amazingly brutal Steiners squash and it was amazing. They hurled people around, and Gill and Barry are great jobbers. Scott kills Gill with the Frankensteiner to win.
*3/4

A pretaped interview with Lex Luger airs, and he talks about his background. He says his dad made him get straight A's in school if he wanted to do sports and it helped him be a more well rounded individual. He says he was always shy as a kid and when you're why and good at something, like he is at athletic ventures, people think you're arrogant, and that's not the case. And it ends there, so fuck you.

Vince McMahon announces the Yokozuna/Luger contract signing next week.

Match #2: Adam Bomb w/ Johnny Polo vs. Tony Roy
Not a very good squash, but that's not shocking. Adam Bomb wins.
1/2*

They hype up Tatanka vs. Mr. Hughes for next week, and I kind of want to take my life.

Match #3: Randy Savage vs. Doink The Clown
This pretty much rules. Doink plays mind games to begin, and despite an awesome arm drag from Macho Man, Doink takes over. Doink rules on offense, with a lot of brutal elbows and punches, and a great Side Belly to Belly. Savage makes a comeback, but Doink takes over again. Savage goes under the ring, AND A MACHO MAN MIDGET COMES OUT THE OTHER SIDE! Savage comes back in as Doink is distracted and gets an inside cradle to win. I love that they accidentally made Doink look better than Savage.
**3/4

Macho Midget bites Doink in the ass, so he bails out and refs have to come down to restrain Doink.

At ringside, Vince mentions a Ted/Kid match on Wrestling Challenge this past weekend. Ted DiBiase is on the phone and says he was wiping the mat with Kid before Razor Ramon got involved. Vince shows the footage, and Ted hangs up in anger. It shows Razor coming down to the ring with Ted dominating Kid, and KID GETS A CRUCIFIX PIN ON TED TO WIN FUCK YEAH! Razor laughs at Ted on the floor, and referees have to hold the two apart. Back at ringside, Razor Ramon vs. Ted DiBiase is announced for SummerSlam. AWESOME!

In the ring, MOOOOOOTHER FUCKING JIM CORNETTE IS HERE! I MARK OUT! YOU MARK OUT! BOBBY HEENAN MARKS OUT, GETS IN, AND HUGS CORNETTE! Heenan introduces him and hypes him up big time as the greatest manager in the history of wrestling and asks why he's here in the WWF. Cornette says his mother loved the roses Heenan sent, and he's done everything BUT be in the WWF. He's here to do that now and he's here to do that now. He hypes up SMW, and has his handpicked team to lead to the titles: THE HEAVENLY BODIES OF TOM PRITCHARD AND "GIGOLO" JIMMY DEL RAY! CUUUUUUUUUUUUUM! AND THEY'VE CHALLENGED THE STEINERS FOR THE TAG TITLES AT SUMMERSLAM! OH MY GOD MY BODY IS NOT READY!

Jim Cornette comes to sit at commentary for the main event. They announce Shawn Michaels vs. Mr. Perfect for the IC Title at SummerSlam.

Match #4: Mr. Perfect vs. Barry Hardy
Pretty great short Perfect squash. He was big time on his game, and Barry took some great bumps. Perfect obviously won with the Perfect Plex.

Match #1: Tatanka vs. Mr. Hughes w/ Harvey Whippleman

I've never actually had my dick cut off, but I can imagine it would be a lot like watching this match. Tatanka wins by count out after a Back Drop on the floor, and he slides in at 9 to win.
1/4*

Post-match, Harvey distracts Tatana and Hughes lays him out with the urn to the back of the head.

Another part of the pretaped interview with Lex Luger airs, and he says he chose football in college, but he got into the wrong crowd. He says he made mistakes and paid for them by being kicked off the U of Miami team. He talks about trying out for pro football and played 3 years in the CFL, and 2 years for Green Bay, further proving that he's not worthy of life. I'm totally not mad or anything. He says he finished school in the off seasons and was set to be an attorney but WrestleMania inspired him to be a wrestler, and he got trained in Florida.

Match #2: The Bushwackers/Macho Midget vs. Blake Beverly/The Brooklyn Brawler/Little Louie
Oh my god, fuck everything. They're clearly trying to put on a horrible in-ring show, and Mike Enos deserves so much better than this. This is what it is. I want to die. I miss the Beverly Brothers. Macho Midget pins Chavo Brawler with a splash off the top.
1/2*

Vince McMahon is in the ring, and he firstly brings out Yokozuna, along with Mr. Fuji, and Jim Cornette also comes out. Officials are surrounding the table now, preventing what happened in the last contract signing, where Yokozuna destroyed Bret Hart. Vince asks Cornette what he's doing, and he says to ask Mr. Fuji. Vince asks Fuji and says he and the champion have hired an American spokesperson, MR. JIM CORNETTE! Cornette puts over Japan as worldwide leaders, and responds to "USA!" chants by saying the crowd has no rhythm, and he says Fuji and Yoko have been at a disadvantage due to not knowing the language very well, so he's evening out the playing field. Vince then introduces Lex Luger, and he comes down to the ring. They sit down at the table, and Yoko signs while staring at Luger, who then signs too, and it's officially made. Cornette then says he put in a clause at Mr. Fuji's request, and he's got his title shot, but if he doesn't beat Yokozuna and win the WWF Title, he'll never get another shot, BECAUSE THERE WILL BE NO REMATCH! Luger says he's glad they're so amused, because he'll take any stipulation because all he needs is one shot.

Match #3: Razor Ramon vs. Dan Dubiel
Way too short, but good stuff. Dubiel didn't look good at all, and Razor won with the Razor's Edge.
3/4*

Match #4: The Heavenly Bodies w/ Jim Cornette vs. Bobby Who/Mike Bucci

Pretty good showcase for the Bodies. They have a lot of fancy double teams, and Jimmy Del Ray got the pin with a Moonsault onto the standing Bucci.
*1/2

A video airs to hype the SummerSlam Spectacular on 8/22, which is good, because I downloaded it off XWT Classics! They hype the following:
-Yokozuna vs. Hacksaw Jim Duggan
-The Steiners [c] vs. Money Inc. in a Steel Cage Match for the belts

NEXT WEEK: 1-2-3 Kid vs. Ted DiBiase in a rematch!

There's a number of matches from the 8/13 MSG show on Dailymotion.

1-2-3 Kid vs. Doink The Clown, WWF Live - Madison Square Garden (August 13th)
This pretty much ruled in a very simple way. Kid frustrates Doink early on, leading to Doink stalling and trying to make jokes to take over, but that also fails, so he just uses his size advantage. Kid takes some great bumps as he is horrifyingly beaten in another great Doink control segment. He never really gets to make a huge comeback, unfortunately, but he does get a flash pin after an O'Connor Roll.
**3/4

Mr. Perfect/Marty Jannetty/Tatanka vs. Shawn Michaels/Diesel/Bam Bam Bigelow w/ Luna Vachon [Elimination Match], WWF Live - Madison Square Garden (August 13th)

I'm pretty sure this child on the fancam is actually me. In June, he was wildly cheering for Bob Backlund, and this show, he's gone nuts for Sean Waltman. In this match, he repeatedly yells SUPER loud that Shawn Michaels is a piece of shit. As for the match, all the stuff you expect is there. Shawn/Marty is GREAT, Bam Bam & Perfect are both on their games, etc. Tatanka sucks, and yeah. Pretty great action, and they avoid having Tatanka or Diesel in for long periods to keep it good. Diesel hit Marty with his KO Punch to the back of the head, and Marty is the first eliminated. They isolated Perfect in great fashion with a ton of brutal stuff, and Tatanka got in. He and Bam Bam began to fight on the floor, and both were counted out, so it's Perfect vs. HBK and Diesel. It's pretty awesome as Shawn vs. Perfect, and I'm hyped for their singles match now. Perfect eliminates Shawn with the Perfect Plex, but Diesel immediately hits him with the KO Punch to the back of the head, and pins Perfect to win. Great booking of this, but Diesel's KO Punch looks shitty even from up high in the stands.
***

Jerry Lawler vs. Randy Savage w/ Macho Midget, WWF Live - Madison Square Garden (August 13th)

This match up ruled in Memphis 8 or 9 years prior, so I have high hopes. This is less of a Memphis epic with Lawler as godly babyface, and more about Lawler beating a cheating chickenshit heel. Which he's still good at, and this is highly entertaining. Lots of good punches and bumping and that kind of stuff. Bret Hart comes out when Lawler keeps antagonizing the crowd, so Lawler spits on him! Bret is pissed, so he gets in and attacks Lawler for the DQ.
**1/2

Bret runs Lawler off after the match.

Yokozuna [c] w/ Mr. Fuji vs. Bret Hart [WWF Championship - Steel Cage Match], WWF Live - Madison Square Garden (August 13th)
This has a TON of "USA!" chants, which is pretty funny since nobody in this match is actually American. This is really good, too. Usual great Yoko selling and building to the eventual bump, and Bret takes a great beating has awesome punches to Yoko. The champion does a great job from going from confident to desperate, due to Bret being better at playing the stipulation than him. Bret dropkicks the cage door into Fuji's head after he repeatedly stops Bet from getting out, but then Jerry Lawler comes down. The fans again chant "USA!", rooting for Lawler technically. Yoko eventually learns to use the cage, but when he starts trying to abuse Bret instead of win, Bret can counter cage stuff and fight back. Bret has Yoko down and climbs up to the top, but Lawler throws Fuji's bucket of salt in Bret's face and he falls down! Yoko climbs out to win. The kid during this kept asking his dad when Lex Luger would come out to help, learning a valuable lesson that Lex Luger is a horrible human being and all your pro wrestling heroes will eventually let you down. Really good match though.
