Match #1: Necro Butcher/Erick Stevens w/ Prince Nana vs. Rasche Brown/Grizzly Redwood [Tag Wars 2010 - 1st Round]

This is a tournament of sorts to determine three challengers for KOW to fight in an Ultimate Endurance Match in August. This was not much, but Grizzly took some awesome bumps for The Embassy. Kind of a shitty finish though, as Stevens just kind of rolls up Rasche with the ropes for the win. Shit, the point of Grizzly is so he can job and save face for the other babyface.
**

Match #2: Sara Del Rey w/ The Kings of Wrestling vs. Amazing Kong

Again, they only get 8 minutes. It's still realy good, but they feel handcuffed again, and the finish doesn't fit the match. Good arm work on Kong by SDR, and the Kings keep interfering. Awesome finishing run of power offense. KONG KILLS EVERYONE ON THE FLOOR WITH A CROSSBODY OFF THE APRON! WOOOOOOOOOO! Kong then wins with a schoolboy. Really weird finish, as they were building to one of them getting a huge huge move for the win, and then it's just over. Fart.
**1/4

Match #3: The Briscoes vs. The House of Truth w/ Truth Martini [Tag Wars 2010 - 1st Round]

You know what you get here. It's an unmotivated Briscoes against the fucking House of Truth. Not good. This was their least shitty match together though. Finishing run was actually good, but the first half was so very very dull and boring. But yeah, lots of cool spots at the end. They work in the Steiners (although I always associate it with Saints/Briscoes) Powerslam out of a Doomsday Device spot. Jay hits Able with the Jay Driller to win.
**1/4

In the back, Austin Aries cuts an awesome promo. He says it seems he and Roderick just can't get away from each other. He says he's not in this to get a title shot, because he's already held the belt twice. He's here to show Strong that he should be his manager, not Truth Martini, and after he beats him again tonight, he can come to A Double's stable, and he can lead him to the top, just like old times.

Match #4: Austin Aries vs. Roderick Strong w/ Truth Martini
They work well together as usual, but heel vs. heel doesn't exactly bode well for this, when it's been established that it works best with Strong as a face. Strong is a shitty heel., let's be honest. He was alright in NRC, but compared to his face work before and after that period, it wasn't great. That being said, Strong works this as somewhat of a face. Aries is clearly not putting his all into it again, etc. Really awesome finishing run though. Strong has a new amazing Backbreaker, where he lifts him up in a Suplex and drops him down into a Reverse Death by Roderick. After that, Strong hits the Sick Kick for the win and finally cleanly beats Aries in a one on one match.
**3/4

Aries slowly gets up and then says he's now back to being the Greatest Man-AGER That Ever Lived, and he brings out ANX for their match.

Match #5: Jerry Lynn/Delirious vs. All Night Express w/ Austin Aries [Tag Wars 2010 - 1st Round]
This happened. They do things, and ANX wins with the One Night Stand. Really nothing memorable at all about this.
*3/4

Match #6: The American Wolves vs. El Generico/Colt Cabana [Tag Wars 2010 - 1st Round]

No Hagadorn tonight. This was pretty good. Cabana and Generico do a great job of reigning in the Wolves and making them work an actual normal pro wrestling match. This isn't as good as their match in March, as the Wolves are basically babyfaces now, meaning they don't do fun dick heel stuff or work body parts with vigor anymore. Still though, Generico was a good FIP and the finishing run ruled. They do the same finish as before with Eddie stuck in the Billy Goat's Curse, and with Generico hitting Davey with the BRAINBUSTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH so he can't save, forcing Eddie to tap.
***

Match #7: The Kings of Wrestling w/ Shane Hagadorn & Sara Del Rey vs. The Young Bucks

Good shit. They used the obvious size vs. speed dynamic, but had a cool little story where the Bucks only stood a chance if they could keep it 2 on 1 and rattle off double teams. The Kings guided them through matwork and then had a great control seg. Lots of awesome strikes and double teams. They got a little contrived at the end, but then it ended. Kings win with the KRS-ONE.
***

Earlier today, Tyler Black cuts a promo and says he doesn't get Kevin Steen. He doesn't want to make a ton of money or do good for the company or help anybody but himself and Corino, but he just wants to change him. Black says he's always been about heart and soul and he doesn't need to change because he is the World Champion. He then says, "some things change, the more they stay the same." Awesome work.

In the back, Kevin Steen cuts a promo, pacing around. He says he's been talking about Tyler for a while, and he and Steve can help him, but he won't listen. He said he knows how good Black is, but he doesn't get why Black wouldn't listen to them. He says he listened to Jacobs for a long time, and they're not that bad in comparison. He says he doesn't get why Black thanked the fans in Toronto or New York, when they've booed him out of the building. He says he wants to give Tyler that admiration back, like he had when he was chasing the title, and says once Black no longer has the belt, everyone will love him again. But it's not just that anymore. He's come to realize that while he's great, Jim Cornette and ROH management don't want him near that belt. He doesn't LOOK like a champion like Tyler Black, or Davey Richards, or Chris Daniels. He says he's been in the Pick Six for 8 months before getting this title shot while a guy like Roderick Strong got 3 title shots in about a month and a half.

"AND ONCE I WRAP THAT BELT AROUND MY FAT FUCKING WAIST, I'LL MAKE EVERYONE REGRET EVER OFFERING ME A CONTRACT. I'M GOING TO CHANGE THIS PLACE. IT'S GOING TO SEEM LIKE A SCENE OUT OF "A SERBIAN FILM", GODDAMNIT!"

He grabs the camera and officially dubs himself the Antichrist of Ring of Honor, says change starts now, licks the lens, and walks off. AMAZING PROMO!

Match #8: Tyler Black [c] vs. Kevin Steen [ROH World Championship]
INCREDIBLE Steen performance. Even during the ring intros, he applauds Black and tries to get fans to cheer for him. Then he immediately goes nuts with a slugfest to open the match. Takes a little bit to get going, but Steen's control seg is awesome. They told a nice story where Black was so thrown off by Steen's recent behavior that whenever he got an opening, he went for risks too soon, and it kept backfiring. Black is busted open and Steen goes nuts on the cut, and shows off his blood to ringside fans. Black has to use insane stuff to get an opening, like the Paroxysm on the apron. It gets a little too Tyler Black-ish at a point in the finishing run, but Steen brings it back around. Black hits a Double Stomp off the to Steen through the timekeeper's table. They kick out of finishes, and yeah. Black puts Steen in his own Sharpshooter and Steen taps. They had a nice idea of the whole Mind Games psychology with a pretty boy babyface champion fighting a total psycho, but this lacked the cool body part stuff that that had. Also, Black clearly was not working on Steen's level, which hurt it.

The Kings of Wrestling and Shane Hagadorn come out, and they announce an open challenge gauntlet match tonight, to show off their skills.

Match #1: The Kings of Wrestling Invitational
This is 2 really great squashes, and then a great angle. Two jobber teams are first, and yeah, Claudio and Hero look awesome again. The Ninjas then are next, and the Kings mock them. BUT THE NINJAS CLEAN HOUSE QUICKLY! THEY PULL OFF THEIR MASKS, AND IT'S THE BRISCOES! THEY HIT CLAUDIO WITH THE SPRINGBOARD DOOMSDAY DEVICE AND THEY BEAT THE KINGS!
**1/4

TONIGHT: Strong vs. Daniels

Match #2: The American Wolves vs. Dark City Fight Club
Hey once again, this sucks! Not writing any more than that about the match, fuck them. The Embassy attacks the DCFC for the DQ.
*1/2

Rasche Brown and Grizzly run out to save, and The Embassy is run off.

A video airs on the Strong stuff.

Match #3: Roderick Strong w/ Truth Martini vs. Christopher Daniels
Shockingly good. A little dull at points, but the fact that they both had gameplans that actually played out and played into the story made up for it. Daniels works the neck for his finishes and Strong works the back for his. Everything either man does plays into this game plan. Strong never really sold it, but Daniels had some nice back sells. Truth interferes and Strong wins with the Sick Kick.

Match #1: Dark City Fight Club vs. Shawn Daivari/Ernesto Osiris w/ Prince Nana [Tag Wars 2010 - 1st Round]

Oh my god, this was horrible. HORRIBLE! HOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIIIBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBLLLLEEEEEE. I hate everything. DCFC wins with a move.
Poop/54

In the back, the Briscoes cut a promo about how they whooped that ass last week, and since the KOW are afraid of them in a tag match, they'll fight them in singles matches tonight.

Match #2: Eddie Edwards w/ Shane Hagadorn vs. Freddie Jay [10 Minute Challenge]
Short Eddie squash. Achilles Lock ends it.
3/4*

NEXT WEEK: Black vs. Daniels

Video on the Aries/Delirious feud.

It is supposed to be Aries vs. Delirious up next, but Aries comes out with a doctor's note and says he is too ill to wrestle because of a third degree case of laryngitis, so he brings out Kenny King in his place.

Match #3: Delirious vs. Kenny King
Aries and Haze are both there. This was not very good. Sort of middling and meandering. Aries blows smoke from his pope into Delirious' eyes, and then King hits the Shotgun Knees to win.
*3/4

At commentary, they announce Glory By Honor IX on 9/11 on iPPV.

Match #4: Claudio Castagnoli vs. Jay Briscoe
This is basically the same match at on the May 7th show. Claudio dominates, it rules, Jay gets a roll up to win.
**3/4

Hero comes out, and Jay is hit with the KRS-ONE! Mark Briscoe then comes out and yeah, he has a match with Hero. So this is literally the same exact angle from the May 7th show. Great fucking job on keeping it fresh, ROH.

Match #5: Chris Hero vs. Mark Briscoe
This was very good. Once again, it's basically the same match. It's good stuff, don't get me wrong. It's just very annoying. Slightly different finishing run. Jay Briscoe comes back out to cut off Claudio's interference and Mark rolls up Hero for the win.

TONIGHT: Black vs. Daniels

Cornette is in the ring to open the show, and he has Tyler Black with him. He asks him about Daniels and Black instead lists off the people he's beaten, and then gives another amazing sentence with "Tonight in Philderphia, I'm going to defeat the Fallen Dangel!" He thanks his fans, and then tells the other fans, people who boo him without cheering his opponents and just don't like him, to kiss his ass. That absolutely warranted 5 minutes of show time.

Match #1: Necro Butcher w/ The Embassy vs. Rasche Brown [Butcher's Rules]
They do stuff for 3 minutes. It's generally pretty fun, but never becomes great. The rest of The Embassy gets in to attack Rasche...AND SOMEHOW, THIS IS A DQ! IN A BUTCHER'S RULES MATCH! NICE JOB, CORNETTE!
*1/2

They have a really shitty pullapart brawl. These would actually mean something if they didn't happen every 2-3 weeks.

NEXT WEEK: Strong vs. Davey, with Strong putting up his title shot

Clips air of Black/Davey at DBD8, and Davey talks over them about how he wrestles and shit and Black and Strong. PURE SPORTZ~

Match #2: Colt Cabana vs. Alex Anthony
Usual fun 2 minute Cabana squash. He wins with the Billy Goat's Curse.
*1/2

Kevin Steen walks out with a chair, but Steve Corino comes from the crowd and attacks him with a chain! They both beat on him, and El Generico runs out with a chair to save, but Cabana is already laid out. Steen throws Cabana's jobber and some ring crew guys in front of Generico to give him a path to bail out.

Match #3: Tyler Black vs. Christopher Daniels
This goes to a 20 minute draw. Black is really not great, but has good points. It's 2010, so Daniels hasn't been truly great for about 4-5 years. They have some nice exchanges, but Black's work on the neck is totally blown off by Daniels in a total 180 from last week. They do things, and the time limit expires. Pretty much the definition of average wrestling. Nothing bad, but nothing really good.
**1/2

Roderick Strong then comes out and gets on the mic. He demands that Black gives him the title shot he earned in Toronto and that Black stops ducking him. Davey Richards comes out and says Strong agreed to put his title shot on the line against him next week, so he'll be the one fighting Black again. Daniels gets on the mic and tells them both to shut up, because out of the three of them, the only one who Tyler Black hasn't been able to beat is him! Good booking and what not, but it's a shame that none of these pairings really seems interesting at all.

Match #1: Jerry Lynn vs. Rhett Titus w/ Austin Aries

This happened for 7 minutes. Really boring and just whatever. Lynn wins with a roll up.
*1/2

Titus attacks post-match, and Kenny King runs out to help. Why the fuck is this happening? They had a fine blowoff in March, but then it's just kept going. Delirious runs out to save. NOBODY gives a shit.

In the back, Fuckshit is with Steen and Corino, and Corino is holding a steel chain. Corino says this chain is what links them together and what will bring them to the top. He says this chain is like them, and it will never break, but it can destroy other people. Steen says he's tired of his career being chained to El Generico, and like Generico, this chain is heavy and annoying and wants to drag him down, but he won't let it, and he vows to put this around Generico's throat sooner or later.

Match #2: El Generico vs. Erick Stevens w/ The Embassy
Generico looks awesome, and this is basically just a background for an angle. They do some stuff and when Generico is making his big comeback, Steen and Corino come out with the chain to attack for the DQ.
**1/4

They choke Generico with the chain, but Cabana runs out with a chair, and he makes the save. That's two segments in a row with the face saving from a 2 on 1. Not hard to see why Pearce got fired around this time, although the Delirious/Cornette team is hardly an improvement.

In the back, Davey tells Hagadorn not to go out with him tonight, because it's all about COMPETITION~. Gag. Why even have a manager then?

GLORY BY HONOR IX: STEEN/CORINO VS. GENERICO/CABANA IN A DOUBLE CHAIN MATCH! FUCK YEAH!

A video airs on the Kings of Wrestling. During this, KOW vs. WGTT is mentioned as happening at GBH9 on 9/11, which really should have been announced on TV at some point, but whatever. Hero says they've been a great team in the past, but this is 2010, not 2003, and they can't hang with the Kings or as far as he's concerned, hang in ROH. Which is pretty much a spot on analysis.

Match #3: The House of Truth w/ Truth Martini vs. Mike Sydal/Aiden Chambers
Short and lame HOT squash.
1/2*

NEXT WEEK: The Embassy vs. DCFC/Rasche/Grizzly! NO THANK YOU!

Match #4: Davey Richards vs. Roderick Strong w/ Truth Martini [#1 Contender's Match]
This was a Davey/Strong match. It went over 10-15 minutes, so by the end, you were basically begging for it to be over. This had a real boring opening too. Strong tries back work, leading to awful Davey "selling". Which means he holds his back for a few seconds, then runs around and takes a lot of back bumps on his own offense, is fine, and then repeats the cycle. Hagadorn tries to help fight off Truth's interference, and Davey yells at him. He then turns into the Sick Kick from Roddy, and that pins Davey. No idea why Davey was pissed with Shane when he was trying to help him.

Match #1: The Briscoes vs. Bobby Shields/Alex Anthony

I have no problem with a Briscoes squash, but they did not need 5 minutes to do their stuff. They've been a team for about 5 years of ROH time, it's not like they need to get their tag offense over. Didn't help that the jobbers were not very good and this was at like half-speed. Doomsday Device finally ends it.
3/4*

Jay gets on the mic and says they'll keep running through everyone until they get their hands on the Kings of Wrestling.

Black vs. Strong for the ROH Title is officially announced for GBH9.

Match #2: Kevin Steen vs. Jerry Lynn
Another great Steen performance, but Lynn was lacking. Really good finishing run though, since Lynn did actually bring it there. ANX comes out and Lynn wipes them out with an awesome Flipping Senton off the top to the floor. He then gets back in, but the distraction allowed Steen to recover and he gets a roll up to with the ropes to win.
**3/4

Promo for the 8 man tonight. I honestly have no intentions of watching this match.

Clips air of last week's post-match from off the air. Hagadorn says he's not sorry for trying to help Davey, and if he keeps having an attitude like this, he'll keep losing, and this is why he needs a manager. Davey punches him, and Eddie Edwards comes out to restrain Davey. Davey says he's finished with Hagadorn and he leaves.

In the back, Cornette is interviewed. He says he's the one who got WGTT to come to ROH. FUCK YOU, CORNETTE. I HATE YOU. Strong and Truth come on next and Strong asks what Cornette will do with the main event of GBH9 to make sure he doesn't get screwed again. Cornette says he won't do anything. Tyler Black comes on and he and Strong shove each other. Security comes over and pulls Strong and Truth away. Black tells Cornette that he's tired of people saying he's not good enough to be World Champion, and he demands that the title match be made No DQ!

The eight man happened. Not watching it. Doubt it would get more than **, so it's hardly affecting ratings.

NEXT WEEK: Black vs. Corino

ROH Champion's Challenge
August 27th, 2010
Richmond, VA

It is announced that Strong and Stevens have had travel issues and may not make it in time for their matches.

Match #1: El Generico/Colt Cabana vs. All Night Express [Tag Wars 2010 - Semi-Final Match]
Really good stuff. ANX, while improved a lot, are still hit and miss, but Generico and Cabana guided them really well here. They still were a little generic on offense at points, so this wasn't fully great. Generico is an awesome FIP, big Cabana hot tag, etc. Corino comes out and fights to the back with Cabana. Generico is all alone and ANX hits the One Night Stand to win and go to the UE match tomorrow night.
**3/4

Match #2: Dark City Fight Club vs. The Bravado Brothers [Tag Wars 2010 - Semi-Finals]

I guess ROH just didn't air the rest of the TW2010 matches from the Philly taping. Great work there. Apparently, the Bravados beat the Super Smash Bros., which...what the fuck? Really? This is what it is and that's a DCFC squash. The Bravados take good bumps though. DCFC win with the move.
*3/4

In the parking lot, ANX celebrates winning to go to the Ultimate Endurance match tomorrow night. They say it's them, the Kings, DCFC, and the Briscoes in the match. Which, hey, by the way? The Briscoes haven't advanced yet, so awesome job on the placement of this, ROH. Fucking morons.

Match #3: The Briscoes vs. Necro Butcher/Prince Nana w/ Ernesto Osiris [Tag Wars 2010 - Semi-Finals]
Stevens couldn't make it, as I mentioned, so Nana has to fill in. This is good shit, and probably better than it would have been with Stevens, as they keep it short due to Nana being a manager. It's basically Necro vs. the Briscoes for 7 minutes, and that is a ton of fun. Awesome spot in the finishing run as Necro blocks the Doomsday Device with A FUCKING PUNCH TO THE FACE IN MID-AIR! Jay then hits him with the Jay Driller to win. Not sure why Necro was the one who dropped the fall here.
**3/4

Kevin Steen comes out and gets on the mic before his match. He says he has a match with Davey Richards tonight, and it seems Davey is everyone's new golden boy now, but his career is filled with underhanded tactics. He brings up that through all of 2009, he and some masked retard faces the Wolves more times than he can count, and he has that feud burned into his memory forever. He asks Davey to come to the ring, because he has one moment that he wants to thank him for face to face. Davey comes out and Steen says it might be his favorite moment ever in his career WHEN HE BROKE HIS LITTLE BITCH BOY PARTNER'S ARM! FUCK YEAH!

Match #4: Kevin Steen vs. Davey Richards
This was fun. In a good throwback to their tag feud, Davey works on the knee. Steen sells well and then works the arm. Some really good stuff on the arm, BUT LOL IT'S DAVEY, AND HE'S NOT SELLING A FUCKING THING. Really good finishing run, but so much of it was Davey totally refusing to sell the arm at all, and it really threw me off. Davey kicks out of the Package Piledriver and then wins with two Buzzsaw Kicks in a row. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
**3/4

Match #5: Bobby Dempsey/Cedric Alexander vs. Caleb Konley/Jake Manning

I have no idea why this was kept on the DVD. Total piss break match with no real point at all. Dempsey wins with the DVD.
*1/4

Match #6: The Kings of Wrestling w/ Shane Hagadorn vs. The Set

Awesome KOW showcase. They face a comedy jobber team for 13 minutes, and slowly make them look amazing before shutting them down. The Kings refuse to actually end the match, and The Briscoes run in to attack for the DQ.
**3/4

The Kings bail out rather than fight them.

Roderick Strong is still not here, so his scheduled match against Corino is off.

Match #7: Steve Corino vs. Jeff Early
Good 3 minute Corino squash. He wins with the Eternal Dream, which is the new name for the old Sliding C Lariat.
*1/2

Cabana runs out to fight Cabana now, and they have an awesome brawl. Corino pulls out the chain that he brought to ringside, and he hits Cabana with it! Roderick Strong then runs out in his street clothes, clearly having just arrived, and the match is on.

Match #8: Roderick Strong vs. Steve Corino
This is a lot of fun, for the 2 minutes it lasts. Seriously, what the fuck? They have some good exchanges and then Cabana gets up on the floor with the chain. He hits Corino in the face with a chain punch and Strong wins with the Sick Kick.
*1/2

Seriously, what was the point? If Strong had just arrived, then either don't do it, or put on an actual match. The Cabana/Corino brawl would have been fine enough.

Okay, so about the events of the main event. On the next ROH on HDNet, which airs on 8/30, they did an angle where Black admitted that he's signed with WWE and turned heel on the fans and he says he's going to walk out with the title belt to try and get more money out of his contract from both companies.

So before the main event, Jim Cornette comes out to try and ask Black to defend the belt against Eddie tonight. Black comes out to "YOU SOLD OUT!" chants, and says he's always been a man of HONOR, so he's going to HONOR the contract he signed for tonight, and this will remain a non-title match! He then demands that Davey Richards leaves ringside and lets Eddie wrestle by himself, or he'll walk out and not come back to fight Davey tomorrow night. Best promo Black has ever cut.

Match #9: Tyler Black vs. Eddie Edwards
This is alright. While Black's promo was awesome, he's still really average in the ring. Since this has him as a heel and it's 25 minutes, he now has to fill a large chunk of the match on offense, and it really just is not good at all. He tries to throw in some cheap heat WWE stuff like John Cena taunts, but it barely gets any kind of pop. The booking is different, but this is basically ROH trying the Summer of Punk again, and it just exposes the fact that no matter how he's booked or whatever, Tyler Black is not a top level pro wrestler. Going back to the match, his heel work is lacking. Before as a heel, he could come in and do some spots, and Jacobs could get in and carry the heel work part of matches, but as a singles heel, it is not there. Good finishing run of spots, but it's just sort of a lot of spots. Black survives the Achiiles Lock and then gets a roll up with the ropes to win. If I had to sum this up in a few words, I'd say "Poor man's version of Punk vs. Strong from July 2005".
**1/2

Black keeps on the attack, but Davey Richards runs out to save, and he puts over Eddie Edwards. Stop.

ROH Tag Wars 2010
August 28th, 2010
Charlotte, NC

Match #1: El Generico vs. Erick Stevens w/ Prince Nana

This was shockingly good. Mostly a Generico showcase, so Stevens doesn't get to kill the crowd and me with his horrible heel control seg. Generico's spots are all awesome and crisp, and yeah. He hits the Helluva Kick, and wins with the Brainbuster.
**3/4

Match #2: Steve Corino vs. Bobby Dempsey

I don't think this needed 10 minutes, but it was still good for a Corino showcase. They do stuff and Corino stalls and makes Dempsey look good. Corino wins with the Eternal Dream.
**

Match #3: Necro Butcher w/ Prince Nana vs. Grizzly Redwood

Awesome Necro beating. Necro wins with the Tiger Driver.
**1/4

Match #4: Eddie Edwards vs. Colt Cabana

Cabana guides Eddie through matwork, and it is good. They keep it on the mat mostly and it is only 11 minutes, so it's actually really fun and awesome. Eddie doesn't looks totally out of his element! He avoids the Flying Asshole and then after a series of counters, he wins with a Jackknife Pin.
***

Match #5: The Bravado Brothers/Cedric Alexander vs. Caleb Konley/Jake Manning/Marker Dillenger

This happened, I guess. Not bad, not great. The Bravados' team wins.
*3/4

Match #6: Kevin Steen w/ Steve Corino vs. Roderick Strong

Takes a bit to get going, and then picks up big time when Steen works on the knee. Lots of really great knee work, and yeah. Strong actually mostly sold it really well. Well enough that I can actually say he sold the knee, unlike other ROH main eventers who look similar to him. Steen tries to use the chain, but Cabana comes out and takes it from him. Generico then runs out and dives onto Corino! Amongst the distraction, Strong hits the Sick Kick to win.
***

Match #7: The Kings of Wrestling [c] vs. The Briscoes vs. All Night Express vs. Dark City Fight Club [ROH World Tag Team Championship - ULTIMATE ENDURANCE]

This really could have been great. It wasn't, but it could have been. But for whatever reason, the Kings were barely in this match, and DCFC worked most of it. First fall is slow and plodding, since DCFC control. They finally begin actually doing stuff after 18 minutes, and ANX eliminates DCFC with the Springboard Blockbuster! At this point, the Kings and Briscoes finally fight and it is AWESOME. Really out of control and chaotic and yeah. Jay bleeds a lot and they do stuff. The Briscoes eliminate ANX with the Doomsday Device at around 28 minutes. HERO THEN IMMEDIATELY HITS JAY WITH THE LOADED ELBOW FOR THE WIN! Great booking on that, but it does take away from the match a little. First 18 minutes sucked, last 10 were amazing. Put it in the middle.
**1/2

Before the main event, Cornette again tries to get Black to put up the belt in a previously agreed upon non-title match. He tries to butter up Tyler now by saying Black/Richards I was, and I quote, "Such a great match that I haven't seen one that good since Flair vs. Steamboat in 1989." NOPE. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPE. NO FUCKING WAY. NOT EVEN A LITTLE BIT. JIM CORNETTE, YOU ARE THE WORST. Black refuses to put the title up, because he's honoring his commitments.

Match #8: Tyler Black vs. Davey Richards
This is not 35 minutes, and is now only 25 or so. This should logically make them work a tighter match, despite DBD8 actually being pretty good. The deal with Davey now being the face against Black had its moments, but Davey is so so so so so so much better as a heel, and the same with Black being better as a face. Reminds me of a lesser version of Strong/Aries in 2007, where they clearly have the ability to do well against each other, but neither is in the right role for that to happen. They repeated most of their stuff from Toronto and then had some totally ridiculous no-selling. I get the idea of fighting spirit. I can buy into it when done right. But you can't fucking no-sell a Powerbomb into the turnbuckle or a Buzzsaw Kick. Fucking Christ, you guys, really? REALLY? Davey then wins with his really shitty Texas Cloverleaf.

ROH World Champion: Tyler Black, Since 2/13/2010
ROH World Tag Team Champions: The Kings of Wrestling, Since 4/3/2010
ROH Television Champion: Eddie Edwards. Since 4/26/2010

ROH Wrestling
August 30th, 2010
Philadelphia, PA

In the ring, Cornette talks to Tyler Black. He mentions rumors that he's gotten offers from WWE and TNA and he asks if ROH has been outbid. Black says 2010 has been great for him and ROH and the best year of his life. He says the rumors are true that his ROH contract has come up for renewal and he's gotten offers. He says 4 years ago, he was begging for opportunities, and now he's the hottest free agent in the game. He says he loves working for ROH, but NOBODY outbids a billionaire from Connecticut. Cornette asks about his loyalty and then mentions he has commitments still. Black says he has been loyal for 3 years and the same people who call out his loyalty are the same people who have never shown him respect. He says he has every intention of honoring the contracts he signed. He says he's not going to play dead to help the company like he suspects some other people in his position did a few years back, and asks just how much more he'd be worth if he left ROH with the title, and he says he's taking the belt with him. Considering the angle that this is a copy of, that promo wasn't totally embarrassing when compared to "You stupid old man, I'm a snake". Which is maybe the highest compliment I can pay Tyler Black here.

Match #1: Roderick Strong/The House of Truth w/ Truth Martini vs. Andy Ridge/Freddie Jay/Mike Bennett
This was what it was. Short squash, and nobody really looked good. Strong wins with the Sick Kick going into his title match on 9/11.
*1/2

Strong gets on the mic and says that since joining the House of Truth, he's undefeated, and he's the next World Champion.

In the back, Steen and Corino cut a promo with the chain. Steen says this is their new best friend, and it has been good to them. Corino says he hates New York and Cabana and he'll get both of them. Steen says he's going to wrap his friend around Generico's neck, and he's going to pull with everything he has, and the grotesque picture on his shirt (Generico's decapitated head on a chair) will become a reality.

In the back, Cabana and Generico cut a promo. Cabana says they're great at the vernacular with the chain, and they're not as great at the mind games. They're also great at a 2 on 1, but in a real even fight, they don't look so great, because they fight with heart and emotion and piss and vinegar. They love the chain too, because now, Corino and Steen can no longer run and hide.

Match #2: The Kings of Wrestling w/ Shane Hagadorn & Sara Del Rey vs. El Generico/Colt Cabana
This is 10 minutes and doesn't have a finish, but is the best done of those in the recent weeks. Probably because it's 4 of the maybe 5-7 best guys in the company (along with Steen/Corino). Awesome matwork to begin, then Generico is an epic face in peril, Kings have an amazing control seg, etc. Really awesome Cabana hot tag, one of his best ever. Lots of energy and unique stuff. Steen and Corino come out with the chain to distract him though and Hero hits a Rolling Elbow to the back of the head to win.
***1/4

In one of the rare times that ROH on HDNet lines up perfectly to promote a show, this makes me look forward to their rematch on the next DVD show, in which there will probably be more time for them and what not.

In the back, Cornette says he has a solution for both Black and Strong, so at GBH9, there will be a special ringside enforcer, TERRY FUNK!

The main event is clearly taped before the heel turn angle, but it's still just a horrible horrible editing job for Black to turn heel and then end the show working face.

Match #3: Tyler Black vs. Steve Corino w/ Kevin Steen
Good Corino carryjob. He's learned his lesson from working the knee in June, and now he just sticks to awesome basic heel stuff. Lots of punches, biting, etc. Really everything you'd want an old school heel to do against a flashy babyface. Great finishing run. Black manages to Superkick a fork out of Corino's hands, and he then hits the Buckle Bomb and the Superkick to win.

ROH Fade To Black
September 10th, 2010
Plymouth, MA

Match #1: Eddie Edwards [c] vs. Erick Stevens w/ The Embassy [ROH Television Championship]

This sure happened. Not really good until the final two minutes or so. Eddie wins with a backslide.
**

Match #2: Grizzly Redwood vs. Bob Evans

How did this get on the DVD? Seriously, what the fuck? Grizzly has new horrible tights that look like denim, but are also shiny. This is really boring and awful for 5 minutes before Grizzly gets a roll up to win.
1/4*

Match #3: Austin Aries vs. Kyle O'Reilly

This is good. They did a lot with 7 minutes to put Kyle over, and he hasn't been totally corrupted by the Richards influence yet, so this worked well. Aries takes some big bumps and Kyle keeps it simple on offense. His cool stuff is made to stand out by Aries doing basic cheap heel stuff until the end. Kyle gets to kick out of the Brainbuster, but then Aries puts on the Last Chancery for the win.
**3/4

Match #4: Kevin Steen/Steve Corino vs. Necro Butcher/Shawn Daivari w/ Prince Nana [First Blood Match]

HEEL VS. HEEL GIMMICK MATCH WITHOUT ANY PRIOR BUILD?! LOL RUSSO. Oh, I'm sorry? Jim Cornette booked this? In that case, fuck that hypocritical piece of shit. According to commentary, this is Steen and Corino wanting a warm up for tomorrow night. Anyways, the stuff involving Necro rules, and the camera is hardly on Daivari, so this is good shit for 7 minutes. Corino/Necro really should have happened somewhere. Steen breaks a beer bottle on Necro's face and punches him with the chain to open him up for the win.
**3/4

Match #5: All Night Express w/ Austin Aries vs. Matt Taven/Sid Reeves

This went on WAAAAAAAAAAAAY too long for a squash, and the jobbers really brought nothing to this that warranted six minutes. King hits the Royal Flush and Rhett hits the Muff Driver for the win.
*

Match #6: Roderick Strong w/ Truth Martini vs. Mike Bennett

This was before Bennett was an actual ROH guy, but he still is not very good here. This generally happens and then Roddy wins with the Death by Roderick and then the Tyler Black-style Basement Superkick.
**

Match #7: The Kings of Wrestling [c] w/ Shane Hagadorn vs. El Generico/Colt Cabana [ROH World Tag Team Championship]

This is even better than the TV match, since it has 13-14 minutes instead of 10. A lot of the same elements (matwork, Generico FIP segment, Colt hot tag), but the individual things and sequences they do are entirely different. Lots of great cut offs of hope spots on Generico that weren't there in the TV match. Awesome hot tag and finishing run. Cabana has the Billy Goat's Curse on, but Steen and Corino come out with the chain. IT DOESN'T WORK, AND CABANA GETS HIS KILLER SUNSET FLIP! CLAUDIO JUST KICKS OUT! Hero then KO's Generico with an elbow on the floor, and they kill Cabana with stuff. They hit a Rolling Elbow to the neck followed by a Rolling European Uppercut for the win.
***1/4

Match #8: Tyler Black vs. Christopher Daniels

Seeing as this is a poor man's Summer of Punk, this is the poor man's version of Punk/Daniels. Which you may recall from the reviews, was the worst match of the Summer of Punk run. This is the same idea, with a time limit draw. Thankfully, this is only 30 instead of 60, but still. They had issues filling time in a 20 minute draw, so giving them 30 results in a worse match. Black does more Cena spots for cheap heat, since he sucks as a heel otherwise. The time limit expires right as Daniels hits the Last Rites.

ROH GLORY BY HONOR IX (IPPV)
SEPTEMBER 11TH, 2010
THE MANHATTAN CENTER
NEW YORK, NY

Match #1: Jay Briscoe vs. Kenny King

Really fun 7 minute spotfest to open the show. Really hot crowd also helped a lot. They do moves, and King wins with the Royal Flush.
**3/4

Rhett Titus comes out and helps King beat down on them some more, but Mark Briscoes runs out to save and the next match is on.

Match #2: Mark Briscoe vs. Rhett Titus
Both tag partners stayed at ringside. Another really enjoyable spotfest that got helped by the hot crowd. Probably just as good as King/Jay. They do a lot of big awesome moves and Mark wins with the Cutthroat Driver.
**3/4

Clips air of Balls Mahoney showing up in ROH on May 8th.

Match #3: Ballz Mahoney/Grizzly Redwood vs. Necro Butcher/Erick Stevens w/ The Embassy
This was better than I expected. Balls didn't really do anything offensively bad, and Grizzly takes a lot of ridiculous bumps for the power guys. The Embassy interferes a lot, and Stevens uses Rave's GHANAREA on Balls for the win.
**1/4

Match #4: El Generico/Colt Cabana vs. Kevin Steen/Steve Corino [Double Chain Match]

Cabana is chained to Corino and Generico to Steen. I had never heard this talked up on the level of the Chicago Street Fight, but it is just as amazing. Not as violent, but it's a lot stronger psychologically. Takes a bit to get going, but once blood begins to flow, it rules. Really violent and chaotic with huge bumps from everyone. Generico takes a huge bump off the top through a table, and while Cabana beats on Corino, Steen tries to get in. BUT BECAUSE OF GENERICO'S DEAD WEIGHT, HE CAN'T SAVE! AWESOME! Colby runs out and frees Steen's chain. They team on Cabana, and tie the chains to opposite corners, so he's trapped against the ropes. Really awesome stuff now. Corino gets the chair Balls left behind, with the ECW logo on it BUT CORINO SPITS ON IT! FUCK YEAH! They tease the chair shot with a better chair, but Generico gets back in to save! Lots of great shit from here on, and Corino takes a GROSS Half and Half Suplex bump neck-first into the seat of the ECW chair. Generico takes out Steen with a dive and Cabana puts on the Billy Goat's Curse to win.
****1/4

They celebrate, BUT STEEN GETS BACK IN, AND HE PULLS OFF GENERICO'S MASK! Generico rolls out to protect his identity, and Cabana puts a towel on his head and helps him get to the back. Steen celebrates in the ring with the mask, and he puts it on and celebrates with Corino and Colby.

Posted Image

He then puts the mask on a chair and uses Corino's blood to paint MR. WRESTLING on the chair to recreate his t-shirt as he promised.

Posted Image

A video airs with Cornette interviewing Davey. He talks about being certified to be a firefighter or an EMT if he wants to, and how he thought about retiring due to getting married and stuff, but then reveals the marriage has since fallen apart, and he will continue to wrestle, because it's the only thing he loves with all his heart. Jesus. I'd make a double murder-suicide joke, but Davey doesn't deserve it.

Match #5: Eddie Edwards [c] vs. Shawn Daivari w/ The Embassy [ROH Television Championship]
Well, probably smart to put this after that epic tag, so not as to kill the crowd for an actual good match. They do stuff, it's not very good, and Eddie wins with the Achilles Lock.
*1/2

Match #6: Austin Aries vs. Christopher Daniels

This is probably their best match together, although I haven't seen their TNA match in ages. Really says something about both guys, despite some of their flaws in later years, that despite Aries hurting his leg in the first half, they still had an awesome match. No real deep storytelling, just a fun back and forth match. I'm obviously more inclined to like matches with a lot of story, but I'm always thankful when a match doesn't try and pretend to be what it isn't, and they just go out and do a lot of cool stuff without pretending to care about limbwork or anything. The injury did take away from what looked to be planned as this awesome fast paced finishing run, but that's hardly their fault. Daniels wins with a Super Angel's Wings.
**3/4

Hype video for the tag dream match.

Match #7: The Kings of Wrestling w/ Shane Hagadorn vs. WGTT
Awesome match, and really one of the finest carryjobs I've ever seen. One of the rare times in ROH (come to think of it, the other two times were against KOW too) that Shelton and Haas legitimately look like a great tag team. Classic case of ROH trying to be like "WE HAVE NO RESTRICTIONS LIKE WWE!" and letting them do whatever they want. Worked for Gibson and Spanky, but guys like WGTT clearly work better with their matches planned out by agents and people. It also doesn't help that they're clearly past their physical prime, and yet ROH regularly gives them 20-30 minutes. The Kings though? The Kings are what WGTT were in 2003, the legitimate greatest tag team in wrestling at the time, and they can channel them properly. This is the first match in a trilogy, so it's all about WGTT looking awesome. Kings are thrown off by having equals on the mat finally, which is kind of hilarious, as they're the ones guiding the matwork. Haas finally does something stupid by trying to trade European Uppercuts with Claudio, and is isolated. Awesome KOW control seg. Haas is a poor face in peril, but the Kings carry it. They do one on Shelton too. Haas has an average hot tag, but the Kings bump huge for him. Haas' Triple Germans look really shoddy. WGTT can barely do the leapfrog spot anymore, but at least Shelton can still jump high. Haas has Claudio in the Haas of Pain, but Hero puts on the loaded elbow pad and hits a Flying Elbow off the top for the win. WGTT clearly don't have it anymore and were carried by a strong act, but in typical ROH fashion, they will continue to push a past their prime act until everyone realizes they're past their prime.
***1/4

Terry Funk comes out to be the enforcer.

Match #8: Tyler Black [c] vs. Roderick Strong w/ Truth Martini [ROH World Championship - No DQ - Special Enforcer: Terry Funk]
They only had 15 minutes now, and as a result, it's probably their strongest match since there isn't really any overlong stuff or struggling to fill time. The stuff with Funk cleaning house sucked. I get it and all and I love Terry Funk, but the guys taking the bumps like Truth and HOT were awful at it. Strong finishing run, pun fully intended. Strong wins the belt with the Sick Kick.
**3/4

This could have been SO much better. Strong's progression into a top title contender was one of the big storylines in ROH's peak period, and the idea of him, despite falling short time and time again and despite him losing faith at some points like with the NRC and with the House of Truth, coming through when ROH needed him most, to stop the ROH Title from going to WWE, is really interesting. I think the referee stuff and the House of Truth deal hurt it a lot, because it really tore the crowd on who to cheer for, since it's heel vs. heel. Having Strong win the belt as a babyface and THEN turn heel to protect the title sounds pretty awesome in my head.

Black turns down a handshake and gives everyone the finger and leaves. Strong celebrates with the belt AND THE LIGHTS GO OUT!

THE FUCKING KILL BILL SIRENS HIT!

Posted Image

HOOOOOOOOOOOLY SHIT YES! HE'S BACK! HE'S FUCKING BACK! YEAH! I'M MARKING OUT BRO!

Posted Image

FUCK YEAH! I know the matches are going to suck and Homicide isn't that good anymore, but this was really well done.

TONIGHT: Aries vs. Delirious in a Lumberjack Match

In the back, Aries talks to Grizzly Redwood and says he's the only actual lumberjack he knows so maybe he could help him out tonight. Grizzly says taking liberties is against the lumberjack code, so Aries cheap shots him.

Match #1: Christopher Daniels vs. Rhett Titus w/ Austin Aries
This was what it was. Titus doesn't turn in nearly as great a performance as he did at GBH9, unfortunately. Middling and average match, and Daniels wins with the Angel's Wings.
**1/4

Match #2: The House of Truth w/ Truth Martini vs. Ricky Reyes/Aiden Chambers

Another bad HOT squash. Reyes being in there also didn't help them at all.
3/4*

News and video about the aftermath of Glory By Honor IX are promised for next week.

The interview between Cornette and Davey airs again.

Match #3: The American Wolves vs. Super Smash Bros.
Really fucking great 10 minute spotfest. The SSB fly around in contrast to the Wolves using more strikes and submissions, so you have a nice little story there to base the stuff around. Wolves have a good control seg. Big big epic finishing run after Dos' hot tag. Big dives and double teams, and the Wolves catch Dos with the Powerbomb/Lungblower combo. Eddie then puts on the Achilles Lock for the win.
***

Hype video for Aries/Delirious.

Match #4: Austin Aries vs. Delirious [Lumberjack Match]
There isn't much here, since it's both a Delirious match and a Lumberjack Match. Lumberjack brawl breaks out at the end and that happens. Rhett slips in to attack Delirious with a Flying Knee off the top to the throat. Aries then hits some manner of what I'd describe as a Throatbreaker for the win.

TONIGHT: Aries vs. Delirious in a cage match

Match #1: Dark City Fight Club vs. Necro Butcher/Erick Stevens w/ The Embassy
Despite the best efforts of Necro, the one good guy in this, this was not a good match. Stevens hits one of them with the Ghanarea after a Nana distraction.
*1/2

In the back, Aries cuts a promo and says that no matter what happens, it is the end of his issue with Delirious forever.

Match #2: Colt Cabana vs. Jay Freddie
This is only about 90 seconds, and Cabana wins with the Billy Goat's Curse.
*1/2

Steve Corino runs out with a fork and he tries to attack, but Cabana ducks it. He kicks him and grabs the fork, causing Corino to quickly roll out ,and he bails out through the crowd.

A video airs on the big events of Glory by Honor IX.

Match #3: Sara Del Rey w/ Shane Hagadorn vs. Taeler Hendrix
Another fun SDR squash. She wins with the Jujigatame.
*3/4

Match #4: Austin Aries vs. Delirious [Steel Cage Match]

This sort of just happens. Aries takes a few nice bumps, but this is sort of just a cage match. Cool finish though, as Delirious puts on the Cobra Stretch on top of the cage and Aries taps out.
**1/4

ANX runs out and gets in, and they attack Delirious. They hit him with the Spike Piledriver, and Aries gets on the mic and says that this feud is over for good. Delirious is stretchered out, and this is the end of Delirious in ROH, as he will now focus on booking the company into the ground in 2011.

Another awesome SSB match. They work even better against the Kings, which makes sense, since they're a much much better team than the Wolves. Lots of awesome stuff in their control seg, and then Dos has an awesome hot tag. They kill him though, and they hit the Power and Glory combo, but with Hero doing a Moonsault instead, for the win.
***

Clips air of KOW/WGTT, and Haas and Benjamin say they'll be back soon. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Match #2: Daizee Haze vs. Rachel Summerlyn
This happened. Haze wins. Moving on.
3/4*

In the back, Daniels talks about the six man tonight with he and the Briscoes vs. the HOT. He says nothing of note, but then the Briscoes come in and Jay is upset that he lost his best drinking buddy, Roddy Strong, to the House of Truth.

Clips air from after GBH9 with Steen holding up El Generico's mask in the back. He says he told people that El Generico wasn't what they thought, that he was ugly and disgusting and sick, and that he was making him sick too. He tried to break away clean, but he stuck around and wouldn't let him. He says he exposed him tonight and the world saw just how ugly and disgusting he really is, and he says he's killed him and saved the world.

HOG~ announces that over the next two weeks, it'll be a Pick Your Poison challenge with Steen and Generico. Steen has booked Generico/Davey for next week.

Match #3: Steve Corino w/ Kevin Steen vs. Jobber
Steen does running commentary again, and it is awesome. Corino wins with the Eternal Dream.
*1/2

Corino pulls out a fork again and they try to attack the jobber, but Generico and Cabana run out to save.

Match #4: Christopher Daniels/The Briscoes vs. Roderick Strong/The House of Truth w/ Truth Martini
This was not much. They did some stuff and nobody really did anything to stand out at all. No real control segment or flow to speak of, just a lot of offense. Nobody here has cool enough offense to make that work here, especially when they didn't do it with a ton of energy and the crowd wasn't that into it. Strong rolls up Daniels with the tights to win.

Eddie Edwards and Shane Hagadorn come out for the 10 Minute Challenge, and Eddie says he wants a real fight for once. Jim Cornette comes out and Eddie asks if he wants the title shot. Cornette then ruins shit some more by saying Hagadorn is making him soft by giving him tin cans to knock over, and it's hurting the TV Title's image and Eddie's image. Eddie doesn't have an image. Shut the fuck up. Hagadorn says Cornette has been in his shoes, and he yells that he controls the champion, and Eddie objects to this and tells Shane to go pack his bags in the back and he'll handle the wrestling. Hagadorn walks out, and Cornette wishes him luck against a real challenge, and Kenny King comes out. Ehhhhh.

Match #1: Eddie Edwards [c] vs. Kenny King w/ Rhett Titus [ROH Television Championship]
This was a match and it happened, I guess. Eddie wins with the Achilles Lock.
**

Clips air of the Double Chain Match from GBH9.

Clips then air of Strong/Black.

Match #2: Tyler Black vs. Jobber
He does not get a name. Really nice Black squash. For once, he actually comes off as a top heel. God's Last Gift ends it.
**

The Davey interview airs AGAIN.

Match #3: El Generico vs. Davey Richards
Takes a bit to get going, but Generico guides it into something good. Seemed like they were going to work on Generico's knee in a nod to the 2009 feud, but it turned out they were just killing time with average matwork for the first half before doing spots. There's some good stuff, but the crowd is so completely dead by this point that it's hard to get into, especially when they're clearly just going through motions. Davey wins with his AWFUL Texas Cloverleaf. So why not actually invest time into working on the knee?

In the back, Shane Hagadorn talks about the Wolves. He says Davey has driven a ridge between he and Eddie, and they need to talk right now.

TONIGHT: Strong vs. Daniels

Shane Hagadorn is in the ring, and he calls Davey out to the ring. Hagadorn says they both know that he's guided him to the tag belts and to a main event spot, and he's benefited from his strategy and his planning. He says he punched him in the face and now he's trying to take Eddie from him too and says Davey is the leader of the team and Eddie is just listening to what he says about him. Shane says he'll forgive him if he just apologizes and lets him do his job or he'll get his ass beat. Davey asks if he's going to do it and then tackles him. The Kings of Wrestling run out and finally beat down Davey. Eddie Edwards runs out to save and horribly, the Wolves clear the ring.

THIS SATURDAY IN CHICAGO: Davey vs. Daniels! No thanks!

In the back, Aries is with ANX. He says they've ended the careers of Delirious and Lynn, and now it's time to get the title belts, and they're going to run through every team in their way.

Match #1: All Night Express w/ Austin Aries vs. Dark City Fight Club
DCFC are still awful, and since ANX generally go in the direction of their opponents, this is not good. King gets a schoolboy for the win.
*1/2

In the back, Daniels cuts a promo. He says he had no idea that Strong would sink so low to beat him. Yeah. A low blow. This coming from the man who drove a concrete block into Low Ki's chest and tried to kill the company by refusing to defend any of the belts. Anyways, he says blah blah blah he'll win tonight, the gospel.

Kevin Steen and Steve Corino come out for the Pick Your Poison match. Cabana and Generico then come out and Cabana says Generico has picked Steen's opponent as...STEVE CORINO! AWESOME! They shake their heads, but Generico and Cabana come out to sit ringside and Colt rings the bell! BUT STEEN PUNCHES THE REF IN THE FACE AND THROWS HIM OUT! He says he's sick of this crap and he's tired of ROH refusing to let their matches or segments air on HDNet because of stuff they did, and says an entire match of his a few months back got cut because he beat up a kid a little TOO bad. He says there's nothing anyone can do to make him fight Steve Corino, and Corino says they're drawing the money here and this feud is drawing the ratings, and this is not a game. He says nobody cares about the golden boys and he told Steen he'd take him to the top, BUT WHO SAID HE MEANT THE TOP OF ROH?! THE GRASS JUST MIGHT BE GREENER! STEEN THEN QUITS, AND THEY WALK OFF! Awesome angle.

THIS FRIDAY IN DAYTON: KINGS OF WRESTLING VS. DAVEY/DANIELS

Clips air of Strong/Black.

Match #2: Roderick Strong w/ Truth Martini vs. Christopher Daniels
This sort of just happens once again. Strong works the back, and Daniels only occasionally sells it. Not the kind of "spits right in the fucking face of selling" kind of Davey Richards shit, but just sort of ignores it. Daniels wins with the BME after interference fails.

ROH Allied Forces
October 15th, 2010
Dayton, OH

Match #1: Mark Briscoe vs. Mike Mondo

FUCK YOU CORNETTE. This was alright. Mondo just sort of let Mark do some stuff for a while. He came back with some average stuff and then Mark randomly won with a cross-arm Iconoclasm, which is not at all something he does regularly, if ever before.
**

Match #2: Daizee Haze vs. Lady JoJo

This sure as fuck happened. Haze wins.
3/4*

Match #3: Colt Cabana vs. Andy Ridge

ROH is giving Andy Ridge a trial series against top guys, which is an interesting idea that they stole from Japan. Gives top guys a showcase match and helps a kid with potential. I have no issue with this. Cabana showcase, as I said, so that means it's a lot of fun. Good matwork and Ridge has some fun offense before Cabana wins with the Billy Goat's Curse.

Match #4: Kevin Steen/Steve Corino vs. Kyle O'Reilly/Adam Cole
The kids here are fine, but this is amazing for the heel stuff. Corino and Steen have a constantly running commentary on the match, yelling advice to each other and calling their own moves, and it is just amazing. The kids have their hot tag and show promise. Unfortunately, Davey's influence would corrupt Kyle. Cole is still generally alright. They do stuff and Steen totally murders Cole with the Steenalizer for the win.
***

Match #5: Ricky Reyes vs. The Metal Master

I have no idea why someone booked Ricky Reyes vs. Chad Collyer. They do some stuff and Reyes wins with a Neckbreaker. I have no idea why this was on the DVD at all.

In the back, ANX cuts a promo about their matches tonight, and Rhett says he's not worried about his match with Jay Briscoe, because he's focused on Kenny's match with Homicide. They say he's like the ultimate ROH legend in the company right now, and like they did to Delirious and Jerry Lynn, they're going to make a name for themselves by ending his career, and then King asks who the comedy tag team is now.

Match #6: Jay Briscoe vs. Rhett Titus
Another good match in this rivalry. ANX are both still kind of hit and miss, but I really noticed here how much smoother Rhett's bumping has gotten. Wasn't as good as King/Jay from September, probably due to it not just being a lot of cool stuff in front of a hot crowd, and being a longer match in front of a shitty crowd. Rhett tries to work the arm, but it's a fucking Briscoe, so that's not resulting in selling. Jay wins with the Jay Driller.
**1/2

Match #7: Homicide vs. Kenny King

As much as I love Homicide's work from like 2002-2006, by early 2007, he was starting to decline a bit. Since then, he's spent 3 years in TNA, and he's facing someone who's not really great, so this was really average. Some nice Homicide moments, but they don't really add up into a great match. Rhett Titus comes out to help and they have a lame finishing run. Homicide now wins with the Ace Crusher, which is such a lame finish compared to what he's used in the past.
**1/4

Titus and King both attack and they try the Spike Piledriver, but Jay Briscoe runs out to save with a chair. Homicide gets up and is pissed at Jay for saving him, since Rottweilers and Briscoes HATE each other and they have a fun little pullapart brawl.

Match #8: The Kings of Wrestling [c] w/ Shane Hagadorn vs. Davey Richards/Christopher Daniels [ROH World Tag Team Championship]
This really could have been great, but the time allotted to it ended up killing it, as they really didn't need 35+ minutes to get their point across. Hero and Claudio guide the average opponents through matwork, but then I guess that bored Davey, so he tries to do random spots before he's isolated. They clearly are just going through motions with stomps and shit before Daniels gets in. The control seg on him seems to be headed to something much better, but after like 2 minutes, Davey gets back in and they just trade big moves for like 10 minutes and it just gets ridiculous. They didn't play on the story of Davey and Daniels not being a real team nearly enough, given that that was the finish. Miscommunication leads to the Kings hitting KRS-ONE on Daniels to win.

ROH Richards vs. Daniels
October 16th, 2010
Chicago Ridge, IL

In ROH's history, very few shows have actually been named for a singular match on the show. You have Joe vs. Kobashi, and then a show that took place 6 years ago to the date in this very building, Joe vs. Punk II. And now we have "Richards vs. Daniels," which is probably not even fit to be almost mentioned in the same breath as those two.

Match #1: All Night Express vs. Kyle O'Reilly/Adam Cole
This was a fun opener. Not quite great, but both teams show a lot of promise. Hell, Adam Cole STILL shows a lot of promise in 2012. Really nice finishing run, and Cole took a few amazing bumps. Rhett Titus beats Kyle with the Zack Attack/Reverse Overdrive. Probably the worst finisher he's used yet.
**1/2

Match #2: Ricky Reyes vs. Andy Ridge

This happened. Reyes is horrible and Ridge is too young to make much of a difference on his usual bullshit. Reyes wins with a horrible Neckbreaker after using a Liger Bomb and a Brainbuster as mid-level moves. Fucking idiot.
*1/2

Match #3: Daizee Haze/Jamilla Craft vs. Neveah/Lady JoJo

Hey, awful! This sure happened. Haze is really the only good one here, despite how good looking Neveah is. Neveah cradles Craft for the win.
3/4*

In the back, ANX asks who they have to beat to finally get some respect, and they thought beating the Briscoes would do it. He says they deserve better than fighting new kids, and they're long overdue for a title shot at the QUEENS of Wrestling. Very clever wordplay, you guys. Queens!

Match #4: Kevin Steen vs. Homicide
Awesome! They met 5 years ago, and that was Homicide, at his peak, guiding a young Steen. Now Steen is in his prime, and he's the one guiding Homicide. Awesome violent and chaotic brawl, at least in the first half. Lots of biting and wildness from both. Slows down a bit when in the ring due to Cide being done as a top level guy, but still fun. Cide wins with the Ace Crusher. :(
**3/4

Cide gets on the mic post-match, and he tries to put Steen over but then mentions the name El Generico, so Steen loses it. He attacks him, and they have an awesome pullapart.

Match #5: Mike Mondo vs. The Metal Master
Ugh, really? Technically fine, but nobody does anything of any real note and NOBODY gives a shit. Collyer wins with the Crossface.
**

Match #6: The Kings of Wrestling w/ Shane Hagadorn vs. The Briscoes [Elimination Match]

Clearly their worst match together yet. Not bad or anything, but just kind of there. After a KILLER brawl, they follow it up with a generic tag match. Hero gets the loaded elbow pad in on Mark to eliminate him, and after that, it picks up a little for the 3 minutes it lasts after that. Jay rolls up Hero and gets the Jay Driller on Claudio for the win.
**3/4

In the back, Steen is having the straightjacket put on for the I Quit match, and Colt Cabana is watching. Steen says it doesn't matter, since Corino is going to kill him in front of his friends and his parents tonight. Cabana doesn't say anything and Steen says he doesn't know how to dance, but he's going to learn so that he can dance on Cabana's grave.

Match #7: Colt Cabana vs. Steve Corino w/ Kevin Steen [I Quit Match - Kevin Steen In a Straightjacket]
This was great, but would have been even greater with a really hot crowd. It wasn't this huge bloody spectacle like other matches in the feud, which probably didn't help a not that hot crowd already, but it was still great. Cabana cuts Corino's arm with a broken bottle, and his selling rules. Lots of hard hitting stuff going on, and Corino then let Steen out of the jacket. Referees and jobbers come out to hold Steen back and then they take him to the back finally, AND CABANA PUTS CORINO IN THE STRAIGHTJACKET! He refuses to quit, so Cabana then Powerbombs him through a table! He takes a broken table piece, AND GRINDS IT INTO CORINO'S BAD EAR! He refuses to quit and then loudly says "FUCK YOU" when Cabana backs off. Cabana then drives it into his eye, and Corino quits.
***

This concludes the Cabana/Corino portion of the Steen/Generico feud.

Match #8: Davey Richards vs. Christopher Daniels
This did not need 30 minutes, but HOLY SHIT, I ACTUALLY (mostly) REALLY LIKED IT! They avoided limbwork or any of that, didn't kill their finishes or engage in any ridiculous no-selling, and kept a strong pace throughout. They had a lot of really cool sequences, and yeah. Of course, it's Davey. There were a few contrived counters in the finishing run, but I'm willing to overlook that since it's two flawed guys putting on an actual great match in an amount of time that usually dooms them. Davey has a cool new Indian Deathlock/Ankle Lock mixture and Daniels taps out.

In the back, Davey Richards is standing by and he says he doesn't care where Tyler goes, but he wants one more match with him to prove that he's better, and he says Black has been ducking him. Black comes on and tells him to say it to his face, and they have a pull apart.

Jim Cornette is in the ring to talk about it, almost like he knows what just happened before anyone else did. He brings out Davey Richards to the ring. I kind of hate how great the Wolves' theme is. He then also brings out Black and Cornette tells them to talk to each other now. Davey says Black can go to greener pastures where fans don't boo him out of the building and he challenges him to the match. Black says Davey's had contract offers too, and he doesn't get why he turned down cash for competition. Nobody cheers Davey here, which is hilarious. At this point, even ROH fans are like "Fair enough" when someone is leaving. Black says he'd rather be the richest over the best. Davey says he'll even pay him to fight him again and calls him a bitch. They have another fight, and Black says he'll wrestle him tonight for free, and then he's done! Really good angle!

Cornette then tells the production people to show some video while Black gets ready, and says they can have the rest of the show to settle this, and if they finish early, he'll put on whatever was scheduled for tonight.

NOVEMBER 12TH: SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST 2010!

NOVEMBER 13TH: STRONG VS. DANIELS FOR THE BELT!

A video airs on the ROH careers of Black and Davey. Basically the same video for DBD8.

A video airs on the KOW/Briscoes feud.

In the back, Fucktooth interviews the Briscoes. He says he's been told that the next shot they get at the tag titles will be their final shot at the Kings, and Jay says they ain't worried, since they always come through in the clutch. Jay says they want dem belts, but they's more focused on beating they asses after what they did to their dad. MAN UP!

NEXT WEEK: KINGS VS. BRISCOES FOR THE BELTS

Match #only match: Davey Richards vs. Tyler Black
Their first match is clearly as good as they're going to do against each other, but this was better than their second match. Black's heel performance was enjoyable early on, but then they kind of gave up any kind of story and just did a lot of moves to each other for 25-30 minutes. They ran through all their stuff in the first match, so there's really nothing new here. Davey wins with his terrible Texas Cloverleaf.

Match #1: Necro Butcher/Erick Stevens w/ The Embassy vs. Grizzly Redwood/Andy Ridge

Enjoyable Embassy squash. Necro is awesome and brutal on offense. Stevens beats Grizzly with the Ghanarea.
**

In the back, CUNT interviews the Kings, Hagadorn, and SDR. Hagadorn says he knows who his real friends are now, and he'd rather stand with champions than with chumps. Hero says he has no idea why the Briscoes even want another shot after they've destroyed them all year, but then says to remember this, "YOU COME AT THE KINGS, YOU BEST NOT MISS!" FUCK YEAH!

Match #2: The House of Truth w/ Truth Martini vs. Super Smash Bros.
SSB again make a mediocre team look great before losing. HOT wins with some manner of a move.
**1/4

Hype video for Kings/Briscoes.

In the back, Jim Cornette is standing by. He says Corino and Steen are under contracts and cannot just quit, and they can either be tied up in lawsuits forever, or they can come back and have a STEEL CAGE MATCH WITH GENERICO AND CABANA NEXT WEEK! YES!

Match #3: The Kings of Wrestling [c] w/ Shane Hagadorn & Sara Del Rey vs. The Briscoes [ROH World Tag Team Championship]
Much better than their 10/16 match. Classic Kings formula tag. Awesome control seg with great Hero strikes and Claudio power stuff. Fantastic finishing run, and it's a credit to both teams that even after going at it for the last 6 months or so, they have a ton of new stuff here. Hagadorn kicks Jay in the dick after sneaking in, and Claudio rolls him up to win.
***

Papa Briscoe hops the rail and attacks Hagadorn, but after a bit, the Kings pull him out and bail.
