Match #1: Eddie Edwards [c] vs. Rhett Titus w/ Kenny King [ROH Television Championship]

This sure happened. Some fun spots, but overall, this wasn't much. Eddie wins with the Achilles Lock.
**

In the back, Cabana cuts a promo with Generico behind him, and Generico has his face hidden under a towel. Cabana says Steen and Corino think they have it all figured out, but what they've done is given Generico a purpise, and that is to DESTROY them. Generico reveals his face, and he has a plain black and white mask. Cabana says inside a cage, they can't walk out again to escape them, and no matter how tonight goes, it's not over between Steen and Generico as long as one of them is still here.

A recap of KOW/Briscoes airs.

Match #2: Sara Del Rey w/ The Kings of Wrestling & Shane Hagadorn vs. Rachel Summerlyn
Fun SDR showcase. Jujigatame ends it.
*3/4

Clips air of the Double Chain Match at GBH9, and then of all the events in the feud since then.

Match #3: El Generico/Colt Cabana vs. Kevin Steen/Steve Corino [Steel Cage Match - No Escape Rules]
This was awesome. One of the more restrained gimmick matches in the feud, but Corino is really just the fucking master of having something be restrained while also getting disgustingly violent at all the right times in a match. They eventually bleed and Steen steals the key from the ref. Big finishing run, and Generico goes up to the top, BUT STEEN KNOCKS HIM DOWN! He's hanging, and Steen shoves him down to the floor! CABANA IS ALL ALONE! CORINO BREAKS OUT THE FORK! YEAH! Steen puts on the Crossface and Corino stabs him with the fork during, and the ref stops it.
***

Generico tries to get in, but Steen keeps kicking him off and he taunts him with the key. Generico goes to the back, AND HE COMES BACK OUT WITH BOLT CUTTERS! Generico gets in, but Corino and Steen climb out and to the floor as slowly as possible to get out, while still fucking with him.

Match #1: Eddie Edwards [c] vs. Necro Butcher w/ The Embassy [ROH Television Championship]

Good Necro performance to carry this. Good story too, with The Embassy cheating and distracting the ref so Necro can do illegal brawling stuff. Eddie is then able to slip in an inside cradle for the win.
**1/2

In the back, the Kings and Hagadorn are interviewed. Shane brags about getting Papa Briscoe banned from every building ROH runs from now on. Fag Hat asks why they haven't defended the belts so often lately. Hero says they've beaten everyone. They beat the Briscoes four times with the belts on the line, beat WGTT in their only ROH match, and the Wolves are too focused on their singles failures. Hero says when a worthy team steps up, they'll have no problem beating them too. Claudio says if they lose tonight, their opponents will get title shots.

Match #2: Kyle O'Reilly/Adam Cole vs. The Bravado Brothers
Enjoyable showcase for the Kyle/Cole team. Kyle wins with a Front Guillotine.
**1/4

Hype video for Daniels/Strong this weekend.

THE PRODIGY IS COMING. I say once more, fuck you Jim Cornette.

Match #3: The Kings of Wrestling w/ Shane Hagadorn & Sara Del Rey vs. Dark City Fight Club
Good KOW carryjob, at least compared to what DCFC usually puts out. They did a good job with a slugfest with the big mediocre guys and then had their awesome control segment. DCFC have a really disgustingly average hot tag and then KOW try to guide them through a finishing run. Hero hit an elbow to the back of the head and into a European Uppercut from Claudio for the win.

ROH Survival of the Fittest 2010
November 12th, 2010
Dearborn, MI

Match #1: Colt Cabana vs. Rhett Titus [SOTF Qualifying Match]

Fun opener between them. Nothing great, but Rhett continues to look like he's improving. Cabana brought something fun to the proceedings as usual. Rhett brings a ring bell in, but Cabana takes it. Rhett drop toeholds him onto it, and then schoolboys him for the upset. No idea why you'd choose to have Rhett Titus wrestle twice in one night, when Cabana could do the same.
**1/2

In the back, Grizzly Redwood says he'll win SOTF tonight. ahahahahahahah

Match #2: Claudio Castagnoli vs. Grizzly Redwood [SOTF Qualifying Match]
Awesome Claudio showcase. Lots of amazing Claudio power spots, and Grizzly took some huge bumps too, to his credit. Claudio wins with the UFO.
**1/4

Match #3: Kevin Steen w/ Steve Corino vs. Kyle O'Reilly [SOTF Qualifying Match]

This was way too even to really be great, but it was a good Steen carryjob. Kyle is best at getting in short bursts of offense, which is why the tag against Steen and Corino worked out so great, but here, he's dominating for a long bit, and it is counter-intuitive with Steen being built as a huge monster. Steen's arm selling rules though. He hits the Package Piledriver, but then Steen hands him the Generico mask. He puts it on and beats O'Reilly with the Brainbuster.
**3/4

Steen brings in a chair post-match, but Corino gets on the mic. He says to stop this, because the kid isn't El Generico and he didn't do anything wrong. He tells him to stay calm and wait for Final Battle, where he'll destroy El Generico forever, and for tomorrow night, where they win the tag titles and then they'll dictate the terms. Steen calms down a little, but he sees a fan in a Generico mask. Corino has to hold him back and says that's just a fatter version of El Generico, and it's not really him, BUT STEEN TRIES TO ATTACK THE FAN HOLY SHIT! Corino and security come out to hold him back and he loses his shit at an "OLE!" chant. This is incredible. Corino then calls out Adam Cole for their match.

Match #4: Steve Corino w/ Kevin Steen vs. Adam Cole [SOTF Qualifying Match]
Corino's arm was still hurt from the I Quit Match, so Cole worked on it. Corino's selling was awesome and then he had a great control segment. Despite clearly being better as a heel in CZW, Cole has some nice underdog babyface stuff and he then wins with a cradle. This didn't get nearly long enough, but the 5-6 minutes it went showed a lot of promise.
**3/4

Steen attacks Cole post-match, and Corino joins in. El Generico runs out to save, in all black now, and he disposes of Corino. He hits Steen with the Helluva Kick and tries the Brainbustaaaaaaaah, but Corino holds him. Steen shoves him down to the apron, goes down too, AND HITS A MICHINOKU DRIVER DOWN THROUGH THE RINGSIDE TABLE!

Match #5: Chris Hero w/ Shane Hagadorn vs. Eddie Edwards [SOTF Qualifying Match]
Good Hero carryjob. Eddie wasn't great, but he throws hard strikes, which is really all 2010 Chris Hero needs to get *** out of a guy when given time. Lots of nasty strikes from Hero, and he got the great control segment as usual. Eddie injures himself on a really great Tope Suicida (the best ones are always terrifyingly reckless), but then wins with the Achilles Lock. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
***

Match #6: El Generico vs. Kenny King [SOTF Qualifying Match]

Generico is obviously hurt, and King works on the ribs. Not long, because of this, and King wins with the Shotgun Knees.
**

Match #7: Homicide vs. Andy Ridge

This absolutely happened. Cide wins with the Ace Crusher.
*3/4

In the back, Truth introduces the newest member of the House of Truth, Michael Elgin!

Match #8: Christopher Daniels/The Briscoes vs. Roderick Strong/Michael Elgin/Zach Gowen w/ Truth Martini
OH MY GOD, WHY IS HE BACK?! Gowen really dragged this down. Elgin was pretty fun as a power spot guy. Briscoes and Daniels were also pretty clearly mailing it in tonight, which I can't blame them for, since the crowd was horrible. And I also don't blame them, because fuck this match. Daniels beats Gowen with Angel's Wings.
**

Everyone comes out for the main event, but when Steen comes out, EL GENERICO RUNS OUT AND ATTACKS HIM! YEAH! He hits the Helluva Kick against the railing, and referees and jobbers come out to pull him to the back and Steen rolls in.

Match #9: Kevin Steen vs. Claudio Castagnoli w/ Shane Hagadorn vs. Eddie Edwards vs. Adam Cole vs. Kenny King vs. Rhett Titus [2010 SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST FINALS]
Without question the worst SOTF final yet. Considering they could have had a final with the Kings, Corino/Steen, and Cabana/Generico all involved, which is basically the six guys who are consistently great in ROH 2010, also possibly even unseating the incredible 2004 SOTF lineup, this is kind a of weak match. But there's enough good stuff here to carry it through. After the attack, Claudio immediately hits Steen with a Bicycle Kick to eliminate him. What the fuck? That made no sense. Without another actual great worker in there, Claudio does a lot of heavy lifting. Eddie's shoulder is badly fucked, and he should not be wrestling. ANX teams up a lot and the first half of this never really gets going. Claudio eliminates Cole with a Lariat. Rhett is then out after a Pop Up European. Claudio hurts Eddie's bad arm, and he is taken to the back. Claudio and King have a nice run against each other, but the crowd is SO dead by now. Eddie comes back and CC is distracted enough for King to beat him with the Royal Flush! King vs. Eddie is your final. Yep. That's awful. Eddie looks pretty good here, actually. This only went about 90 seconds though, and Eddie wins with the Achilles Lock.
**1/2

There is absolutely no doubt that they should have called an audible once Eddie got injured and given it to Steen or Claudio or someone else. He was in for like 4 minutes tops of a 25 minute match and gets the win? Nah, fuck that. This year, it seems like Cornette and Delirious forgot that a lot of the great stuff in SOTF matches came from storylines involved in them, and here, it was an average heel team fighting with a rookie and Claudio. 2004 was one of the best matches in ROH history because everyone going in had some kind of a story in the match. 2005 was too long to be great, but had the same deal. 2006 and 2007 and even 2009 all had their own stories. This really had nothing.

ROH Fate of an Angel II
November 13th, 2010
Mississauga, Ontario, Canada

Match #1: Michael Elgin/Zach Gowen w/ Truth Martini vs. Bobby Dempsey/Grizzly Redwood

Elgin is the only good thing here. Some good power offense. Gowen really dragged it down though, and the faces were not much. Grizzly hits a shitty Flying Elbow on Gowen to win.
*1/2

Post-match, Elgin lays out Gowen and Truth kicks him out of the House of Truth.

Match #2: Mark Briscoe vs. Andy Ridge
Another average trial series match. This sort of just happens for a bit and Mark has some cool stuff, but also has some average stuff. Mark wins with the Cutthroat Driver.
**

There's a promo for the ROH School, which I usually don't put in a review, but it's pretty hilarious that with their ties to NOAH mostly forgotten, they still advertise top level stars from NOAH doing guest stints and when they talk about guest stints, also show guys like Danielson, Aries, Nigel, etc. who have all gone away. ROH is horrible at updating their videos and ads in this way.

Match #3: Sara Del Rey w/ The Kings of Wrestling & Shane Hagadorn vs. Jamilla Craft
Kinda bums me out that this wasn't a complete SDR murder. Craft is really inexperienced, being a recent ROH School grad, but her getting in a lot of offense is completely ridicuclous. SDR wins with a Piledriver.
*1/4

Match #4: El Generico/Colt Cabana vs. All Night Express [Winners Get Tag Title Shot In Future]

Not QUITE a #1 Contender's match, but whatever. Best match of the night so far, but it still was not quite great, due to ANX being mostly on the miss side of hit or miss in the first half. Really plodding and average heel control seg, and Generico is in all black and again really really upset. Great finishing run after his hot tag. Shitty crowd also doesn't help them. Steen comes out and Generico immediately tries to go after him. Security comes out to break it up, but as Cabana is also distracted, King rolls him up to win.
**1/2

Match #5: Kyle O'Reilly/Adam Cole vs. The Bravado Brothers

Acceptable little tag. Some really awesome spots from Cole/KOR. They win with a Wheelbarrow Front Lungblower transitioned into a pop-up Lungblower.
**1/4

Match #6: Homicide vs. Jay Briscoe

Homicide once again disappoints. :( That being said, I do appreciate them at least TRYING to bring up the amazing Rotts/Briscoes feud that never really got to finish. Some nice stuff, but overall, sort of meandering. Homicide wins with an Ace Crusher. I blame Gogz for this, as it's common knowledge that when he booked TNA in 2007-2012, he forced Samoa Joe, Homicide, and Jay Lethal to drink SUPUL. Alex Shelley also had a little bit, but wasn't ruined forever like the other three.
**1/4

Before the tag title match, Steen gets on the mic. He brings out a bunch of guys and says they're local rookies and says if they stand guard to make sure that disease who he won't even name doesn't stop him from winning the Tag Titles, he'll help them get future bookings, and they agree to stand there.

Match #7: The Kings of Wrestling [c] w/ Shane Hagadorn & Sara Del Rey vs. Kevin Steen/Steve Corino [ROH World Tag Team Championship]
Great stuff, but with a less shitty crowd and more focus on the heel/heel dynamic, it could have been really amazing. Steen and Corino were the bigger heels due to Steen being Steen. Awesome thing where he forces 4 of Hero's fingers down so that he's giving Claudio the finger and then yells, "CLAUDIO, LOOK WHAT HE'S DOING TO YOU! WHAT A HORRIBLE FRIEND!" But then both teams had control segs. They were totally different and it worked fine, but they just sort of had a match and didn't emphasize the heel/heel thing. The storytelling of the Kings always being able to dominate because they had better teamwork was good. Generico tries to come in through the crowd and the rookies hold him and Steen apart. Steen is totally distracted and Corino is hit with a Rolling European Uppercut and then the Death Blow and the Kings retain.
***

Steen and Generico have an amazing pullapart post-match.

Match #8: Roderick Strong [c] w/ Truth Martini vs. Christopher Daniels [ROH World Championship]
Holy shit, this went like 35+ minutes. Such a horrible decision. These two are seemingly capable of a good match if it went 15-20 and was focused and tight and neither got lazy (which is almost impossible in 2010), but this was none of that. Blatant time killing early on, before Strong started to work the back. Daniels didn't sell the back at all, despite about 10 minutes of work on it. They have a finishing run, and by this point, we've seen this match once or twice on HDNEt, so all their exchanges have been done before. Strong wins with the Release Suplex Backbreaker.

Match #1: Kevin Steen w/ Steve Corino vs. Grizzly Redwood

Really fun Steen mauling. He does the amazing trick from the Kingston/Hallowicked feud where he puts the stolen mask on Grizzly's head and beats him even worse to send a message. Steen wins with the Package Piledriver.
**

Steen gets on the mic post-match and says last time in New York City, he took what El Generico values most, his identity. He says people didn't get to see what he looks like, so now he has a new mission, and at Final Battle, he WILL show everyone his true identity. He says he wants everyone to see the disgusting thing El Generico is, and he challenges El Generico to one last match but with El Generico's mask on the line! And after everyone sees his face, he knows Generico will never show his face again, because this company is too small for them both to exist in it at the same time. SO IF HE DOESN'T BEAT HIM AT FINAL BATTLE, HE WILL LEAVE RING OF HONOR! Corino shakes his head no, and El Generico comes out with a towel over his head and takes it off to reveal the all black mask, AND HE SHAKES HIS HEAD YES! FUCK YEAH!

THE PRODIGY MIKE BENNETT. They have Cornette and Cary talk about how much potential he has and Cornette first speaks of how he looks like a star, so he's once again no better than Russo. Cary talks about how much he sees in Bennett. GAY. SO GAY.

Jim Cornette brings out ROH Champion Roderick Strong and Truth Martini for a potentially horrible interview. He announces that Davey Richards will challenge him for the ROH Title at Final Battle. Strong shits on Davey's sap story and is so very very awkward. Truth denies ever interfering and says it's all Roderick. This is so bad that I skipped it.

Match #2: Homicide vs. Tony Kozina
Homicide did some stuff. He won with the Ace Crusher.
*1/2

A video airs on Davey's hunt for the ROH Title with him talking about it. Goes on way too long.

Match #3: The Briscoes vs. Austin Aries/Rhett Titus
I thought Aries was gone by this point, so this is nice to see in theory, but he's clearly in one of his unmotivated not giving a shit modes that he got in in 2010. Generally acceptable match, despite a real lack of anything interesting happening. Goiod dive train at the end. The Briscoes beat Rhett with the Doomsday Device.

Match #1: Colt Cabana vs. Erick Stevens w/ The Embassy [TV Title #1 Contender's Match][/b]
Fun stuff. Not amazing or on the level of his 2007-8 work, but it's the best Stevens singles match all year, probably, due to Cabana being Cabana. Lots of cool unique things from Colt and Stevens was working nice and stiff. Cabana once again gets his magical sunset flip for the win.
**3/4

Coming back, Cornette is in the ring with the Kings of Wrestling and Shane Hagadorn. Cornette is mad at them for not defending the belts and Hagadorn says they've put the belts up against everyone and beaten everyone. Hero says they'll fight anyone in a non-title match and Hagadorn says if somehow, they lose a non-title match, they'll defend the belts against whoever beats them. Cornette then books a non-title match for Final Battle and he brings out The Briscoes! AND PAPA BRISCOE IS WITH THEM! CORNETTE BOOKS KOW/HAGADORN VS. THE BRISCOE FAMILY! AWESOME!

Match #2: Sara Del Rey vs. Daizee Haze
These two have been regularly facing each other everywhere since 2006, so they work well together. They have some nice stuff, and they go to a 10 minute draw.
**1/4

In the back, Shittooth talks to Steve Corino. He says he's always been in control, but the truth is, breaking up Steen and Generico was only the first part of his plan, and the idea was just to make it a stepping stone for Kevin Steen, but it's gotten out of control. He says he cannot talk sense into Kevin Steen anymore, so maybe he can talk sense into El Generico, and he's asking just to talk to El Generico next week, and he might just be saving his life.

PRODIGY.

NEXT WEEK: HOMICIDE VS. NECRO IN A BUTCHER'S RULES MATCH! YEAH!

Match #3: Davey Richards vs. Shawn Daivari w/ The Embassy
Between Jacobs being cut from the ROH roster this week (despite he and Steen clearly putting on the best ROH match in a long time at the last show) and booking this match, I think Jim Cornette and I may now be nemeses. This goes like 10-15 minutes and it is just so so so bad. Daivari actually controls and works the ribs AND NOW DAVEY SELLS?! HE'S SELLING FOR DAIVARI, BUT HE WON'T DO IT FOR THE ACTUAL GOOD WRESTLERS HERE?

NAH.

TONIGHT: HOMICIDE/NECRO IN BUTCHER'S RULES

Steve Corino comes out to open the show and says with about three weeks until Final Battle, his best friend Kevin Steen has gone absolutely insane. He says Generico was only a little footprint in the plan and Kevin Steen should be ROH Champion by now, but he's been stuck with that masked retard for way too long. He says he can no longer handle Kevin Steen, and he calls El Generico out here to talk like coworkers or human beings. He comes out and Corino says Generico has made Kevin Steen crazy and he's here to try and save him from the monster he created. He says this will be THE Final Battle and ROH will not be the same after December 18th. He asks him if it's really worth it and says nobody really cares about him, except for Kevin Steen, who tried to let him go his own way to protect him, but he spit on him, and now he's going to end his career. He says Generico can just give him the mask and unmask now and walk away because ROH and Steve Corino need Kevin Steen. Corino asks what it's going to be, and Generico slaps him! Corino then hits him with the mic and beats him on the floor. He rolls him into the ring and then the bell is rung!

Match #1: El Generico vs. Steve Corino
Generico immediately gets an inside cradle to win. Goddamnit.
Biggie's sex life

Corino keeps attacking, but Generico hits the Helluva Kick and the Brainbuster!

Hype video for KOW/Hagadorn vs. The Briscoe Family

A horrible segment airs with Jim Cornette officially signing Mike Bennett and his trainer Bob Evans. He promises to win a belt by the end of 2011. Nice job.

ADDED TO FINAL BATTLE: SDR/Mystery Woman vs. Haze/Mystery Woman

Match #2: Rhett Titus vs. Jon Davis
This sure happened. No real story, and they just sort of trade moves for a while. Rhett hits the Zack Attack to win.
*3/4

They reair the video with Davey Richards talking about the ROH Title match. Davey pretending the No Remorse Corps. were these valiant tough babyfaces who loved competition is really hilarious.

12/17: KINGS VS. WOLVES FOR THE TAG BELTS

Match #3: Kyle O'Reilly/Adam Cole vs. Mike Sydal/Grizzly Redwood
Mike is the brother of Matt Sydal, aka Evan Bourne. And he has none of his talent. Disappointing. His brother has the prettiest Moonsault to the floor that I've ever seen, but his is one of the ugliest. Cole and O'Reilly have some good offense. Grizzly's hot tag is good, despite him being the worst character. Cole and O'Reilly win with their Double Lungblower thing. They need a team name asap.
**

Match #4: Homicide vs. Necro Butcher w/ The Embassy [Butcher's Rules]

Obviously not even in the league of their 2006 match, but still better than you'd expect for 2010. Lots of insane Necro bumps, and he does a great job carrying Homicide. They use tables, chairs, a ladder, etc. Just everything you'd want from a big Necro brawl. Homicide counters Necro's Backbreaker onto two chairs and hits an Ace Crusher to the chairs, sending Necro face-first into the two tops of the chairs, and that results in the pin for Homicide.

Mike Bennett and Bob Evans are sitting in the front row.

TONIGHT: Davey vs. Erick Stevens

Match #1: Eddie Edwards [c] vs. Colt Cabana [ROH Television Championship]
Another good Cabana carryjob. Eddie is carryable on the mat, which is all Cabana needs to have a really fun match. They get going with big stuff, and they do enough really cool unique counters and stuff to put this just over the top. They tease a 15:00 draw, but then Eddie gets a Bridging O'Connor Roll for the win.
***

At commentary, they announce that Steen/Generico has also been made a Fight Without Honor!

A video airs on Chris Daniels.

In the ring, piece of shit interviews Kevin Steen and Steve Corino. Steen holds up the mask and talks to it. He says he is counting the days until they get in the ring for their Final Battle. He says Generico knows he is a man of his word and he asks Steve to hold him, as he hands him the mask. He says last time in New York, he did what he said, and he says now that in 12 days, he will beat him and unmask him and everyone will see how disgusting he really is. He says at Final Battle, they step in the ring together for the last time. Really just a rehash of the previous interview like this.

HAZE'S PARTNER AT FINAL BATTLE WILL BE AWESOME KONG! FUCK YEAH!

A horrible video on ROH's women. WE R SERIOUS ATHLETES.

Match #2: El Generico vs. Bobby Shields
Good short Generico squash to show off his aggression going into Final Battle. Brainbuster ends it.
*1/2

Generico sets up a chair in the ring, and he hits Shields with a Brainbuster on the chair!

Coming back, the Kings of Wrestling are in the ring with Hagadorn and a nameless guyand Kyle Faggot Durden. Hero says they have to whip Hagadorn into wrestling shape after they had this six man backdoored on them, so this is a public workout. Claudio puts on a referee shirt and refs while drinking coffee. Hero yells at the jobber for getting the best of Hagadorn and that his role is to be a dummy. The jobber gets mad and punches Shane, so the Kings lay him out with the KRS-ONE and Hagadorn gets an elbow drop and Claudio counts the pin.

NEXT WEEK: Strong vs. Aries! That's probably Aries' final match then.

Match #3: Davey Richards vs. Erick Stevens w/ The Embassy
Much better than Daivari/Davey. Not really much, but at least it wasn't hideously offensive. They did stuff, Stevens is back to being rather generic as a heel, and Davey does his stuff. They try to make it a big epic match when this is hyped as a warm up for Strong at Final Battle, so why have Davey go even with a guy who's been presented as a midcard jobber to the stars who nobody cares about? Davey wins with the Ankle Lock.

Jim Cornette brings out Davey Richards for an interview and he basically just repeats what he said in the video of him talking about the match that they aired a few weeks back. Strong and Truth come out and says he's jealous and the title is all that matters to him. He says Truth has never interfered for hm and if he sees him do it at Final Battle, he'll personally hand him the belt. Strong says Davey will let down his dead grandpa, and Davey chases Strong out to no reaction.

NEXT WEEK: AN EIGHT MAN GAUNTLET MATCH FOR $10,000!

Match #1: Daizee Haze vs. Taelor Hendrix
This sure happened. They did stuff for a bit and Haze won.
3/4*

In the back, the Briscoe family cuts a promo about how the Kings made it personal and Jay says their dad whooped they ass since they was knee high and it made them better men and Mark says Shane Hagadorn obviously didn't have a dad and Papa Briscoe calls Hagadorn a peckerhead, MAN UP BOYS!

Match #3: Kevin Steen w/ Steve Corino vs. Korey Chavis
Chavis got in too much offense for a 4-5 minute Steen showcase, but Steen beat him anyways. Package Piledriver ends it.
**

Steen picks up the El Generico mask and starts spitting on it.

An AMAZING Steen/Generico hype video airs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6hp4X-cVKs

Match #4: Austin Aries vs. Roderick Strong w/ Truth Martini
Not their best, due to heel Strong being terrible. Aries also is not a great seller, which is why he's much better as a heel. They do stuff and also, this is like their 10,000th match together, so they've run out of cool stuff to do together, and this is average as a result. Strong wins clean with the Sick Kick.

Good opener. The kind of fast paced spotfest that ROH used to always open shows with to get the crowd hot. In retrospect, I wish I had drafted Adam Cole for UWF. Which hey, expo, biggie, ford, feedback that. He has a lot of energy, bumps big, and has a big fiery comeback, in addition to being crisp and seemingly knowing his limitations. King catches Cole trying a Crossbody, and he hits the Royal Flush to win.
**3/4

Match #2: Colt Cabana vs. Mike Bennett w/ Bob Evans

Blatant Cabana carryjob. Bennett has a great look and has a lot of natural charisma, but he is just so very inexperienced and thus, painfully average. Clearly a Cornette guy, as he feels like he'd be perfect for FCW or OVW or something, but not on a promotion claiming to be the #3 promotion in the country. As it is, he feels like a jobber brought in for a Cabana showcase, and that's how this is structured. Then Bennett gets a roll up with the tights to win. Horrible.
**1/4

Match #3: Christopher Daniels vs. Andy Ridge

Good Daniels showcase. Ridge does alright for himself once again, and Daniels wins with the Angel's Wings.
**1/4

Daniels puts over Andy Ridge post-match.

Match #4: The Briscoes vs. Kevin Steen/Steve Corino
In a nice little touch, Steen is wearing the old Steenerico t-shirt to the ring. This is good stuff. Takes a little to get going, but the heels' control seg is really awesome. Lots of cheating and brawling on the floor, in addition to both guys throwing their weight around and hitting hard. Mark has a pretty awesome hot tag and they don't overstay their welcome. Mark hits his big dive, they have a nearfall, but then Corino slips in a low blow and Steen hits the Package Piledriver for the win.
***

Match #5: El Generico vs. Rhett Titus vs. Ricky Reyes vs. Grizzly Redwood

Waste of Generico. They try to have a fun match, but he is really angry and focused going into tomorrow and kills everyone. He hits Grizz with the Brainbuster for the win.
**

Generico goes to keep it up, but Steve Corino comes out with the mic and says he has nothing to do with this. He says he's not here to fight, and this has gone too far. He says this is not what El Generico does and beating up a defenseless kid won't make him feel better. He says he's giving him another chance to just hand him the mask now and says he forgives him for this past year and he can get Steen to forgive him too. He says the people are booing right now because they want to see a slaughter and now that it's unsanctioned, Steen will be out of his control. He says he and Kevin have children and families to support and Generico doesn't, and he can give him that mask now and they can shake hands and maybe even become friends! Generico thinks about it so Corino backs off, BUT GENERICO HITS THE HELLUVA KICK! He goes nuts with punches, and referees and people come out to pull him off. Corino rolls out and walks to the back shaking his head and saying that he can't help him anymore.

I AM SO READY!

Match #6: TJ Perkins vs. Kyle O'Reilly
Fantastic TJ carryjob. He is really an expert at this super quick and fluid semi-shootstyle type spotfest, and reigns in Kyle and channels his stuff into what will fit in his match. Lots of big kicks and cool counters and shit, and TJ counters a La Magistral into an Peterson Roll to win.
***

Match #7: Roderick Strong w/ Truth Martini vs. Sonjay Dutt

This has been a really great card for 2010 ROH so far, and then of course this happens to drag it down. Dutt is beginning to form a hilarious HGH gut. Strong wins with the Release Suplex Backbreaker.
**

Match #8: The Kings of Wrestling [c] w/ Shane Hagadorn & Sara Del Rey vs. The American Wolves [ROH World Tag Team Championship]

Typical ROH and Wolves, as this absolutely did not need 40 minutes. They still has a lot of cool stuff, don't get me wrong, but they had about 20 minutes of cool stuff and 20 minutes of filler. Not like, stuff they could easily trim out but still made sense, but stuff where they're clearly just doing stuff to fill time. They did a bad job with the pacing too as 20+ minutes of this was after the final hot tag. Hero wins with THREE straight Rolling Elbows on Eddie. Talk about fucking overkill.

ROH FINAL BATTLE 2010 (iPPV)
DECEMBER 18TH, 2010
THE MANHATTAN CENTER
NEW YORK, NY

Match #1: All Night Express vs. Kyle O'Reilly/Adam Cole

Great opener. I'm starting to think ANX only turns it on for big shows, since they ruled again here. Only a few contrived things, which considering that these are four young guys who came up in the indies after 2007, is almost impressive. They have a lot of really really awesome spots in a smart tag formula, so I kind of loved this. ANX wins with the Powerbomb/Blockbuster combo.
***

Match #2: Colt Cabana vs. TJ Perkins

Really really fun mat-based match. Tons of neat counters and holds and the mixture of Cabana's more European based matwork and TJ's more lucha inspired stuff was really interesting. They trade roll ups in really inventive ways and Cabana gets a sunset flip while grabbing Perkins' wrists in it for the win.
***

Match #3: Sara Del Rey/Serena Deeb vs. Daizee Haze/Amazing Kong

Good stuff. A step down from the last two matches, but that's unavoidable. They do stuff for 8 minutes or so, and it is of quality. Haze manages to kick out of the Royal Butterfly, but then Del Rey hits the Piledriver for the win.
**1/2

Match #4: Eddie Edwards vs. Sonjay Dutt

OH GOD NO. BAD. THIS WAS BAD. Dutt was absolutely awful once again. His offense was all either really contrived or horrible looking. Some moves were done and Eddie wins with the Achilles Lock. Never thought I'd say this, but he has improved slightly in the last half of 2010, so this was actually a waste of Eddie Edwards.
**

A video airs, saying WGTT will be regular roster members in 2010. One of the reasons ROH 2011 was HORRIBLE.

Since it is intermission, they air the amazing Steen/Generico hype video, and also the much lesser KOW/Briscoes and Strong/Davey hype videos.

Match #5: Homicide w/ JULIUS FUCKING SMOKES vs. Christopher Daniels
Shame these two never put it together for a great singles match, since there was a 2-3 year period where their peaks matched up perfectly. I'll settle for the amazing LAX/AJ & Daniels stuff in TNA 2006, I guess. This is a fine enough 10 minutes, but just really average. They both work the neck and the highlight was clearly Smokes running around and being Julius Smokes. Homicide wins with the Ace Crusher.
**1/2

Match #6: The Kings of Wrestling/Shane Hagadorn w/ Sara Del Rey vs. The Briscoes/Papa Briscoe

Fuck, this was SO entertaining. They worked the idea of the manager wrestling vs. an insane old man really well, and Papa Briscoe looked pretty decent for an old man doing limited spots. The Kings and Briscoes matched up really well again as always and yeah. Papa Briscoe was strangely the highlight, including doing a Flying Headscissors to Claudio followed by a Stunner, AND CLAUDIO DOES THE ROCK STUNNER SELL! AMAZING! Jay gets Hagadorn up and PAPA BRISCOE HITS THE DOOMSDAY DEVICE TO WIN!
***

Match #7: Roderick Strong [c] w/ Truth Martini vs. Davey Richards [ROH World Championship]

Unless there is a sudden resurgence in ROH's quality in 2012 (which is not impossible, but very unlikely given that Cornette's mission seems to be to get rid of the guys who carried ROH in years past), this is the final ROH Title match I will review as part of a review project. It is highly representative of all the flaws in the ROH main event style by this point. You have two guys who CAN be good in the right setting, but they give them 30 minutes and they let Davey's horrible tendencies take over. They both work on the arms early on and it is good stuff, but then hey, they both forget about it when they get to the middle. They sort of just skipped the middle of the match where someone controls a bit or a story is established and then they went right to a finishing run for 15-20 minutes. They kick out of a ridiculous amount of stuff and they start to sell Davey having a concussion and being KO'd, which is neat, except that he still goes on for another 5 minutes and then had some ridiculous no-selling during that. Strong wins with the Stronghold.

Match #8: El Generico vs. Kevin Steen [UNSANCTIONED FIGHT WITHOUT HONOR - MASK VS. CAREER]
I would not begrudge anyone for calling this the best feud in ROH history. I would put it in the top 3, along with Jacobs vs. Whitmer/Cabana and ROH vs. CZW, but there is a case to be made for it. That being said, I think giving them 30 minutes instead of say, 20, held them back from making this an all-time classic. That being said it's like 98% incredible. Throwbacks with the chain, tables and chairs get involved, blood, hate, etc. Using a ladder for many of the same spots as the Ladder Wars was a nice touch. The kickouts got to be a little much at the end. I get that it's a big huge grudge match, so I'm not saying they're killing off their big moves, but it still could have been done better. And some kickouts were completely insane, like a Package Piledriver onto an open chair seat or the BRAINBUSTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH. Great finish as Generico has Steen lined up for a chair shot in a mirror of last year. Steen then holds up the stolen mask and Generico stops. He takes it from him, BUT HE THROWS IT DOWN AND KILLS STEEN WITH THE CHAIR SHOT! GENERICO WINS!

A highlight package airs on Final Battle!

Match #1: THE HOLIDAY GAUNTLET FOR $10,000~
Steve Corino and Jay Briscoe are starting it off. They have a generally good match, with nothing exceptional going on, and unfortunately, Jay wins with a schoolboy. Corino attacks Jay Briscoe and hurts his ribs, and then Christopher Daniels is in next. They have another acceptable match. Daniels works the ribs and wins with the Angel's Wings. Rhett Titus is in next. They have the worst match yet. Daniels wins with the BME. Davey is in next. They do some things and Davey wins. Claudio is then next and carries Davey. He does all his awesome stuff and then Davey wins with a roll up. Hero is in next and kills Davey with a ton of amazing elbows. They play on the concussion and shit on commentary, but Davey's selling is again awful. He then gets a roll up to win. UGH. The Kings then lay him out. Strong is in last, and it is so fucking perfect that the last ROH match I review features the Kings carrying the match but the focus ending up being on Strong vs. Davey. Davey then makes a horrible adrenaline comeback and Strong wins with the Sick Kick.

WRESTLER OF THE YEAR:

2002: Low Ki
2003: Samoa Joe
2004: CM Punk
2005: Samoa Joe
2006: Matt Sydal
2007: Claudio Castagnoli
2008: Jimmy Jacobs
2009: Kevin Steen

This was pretty much a competition against the 5-6 guys that carried ROH in 2010 in the Kings of Wrestling, El Generico, Kevin Steen, Colt Cabana, and Steve Corino. Corino competed less than the other five, so he was out. For the third consecutive year, which has to be a record for this kind of thing in a BQ review, someone wins both Tag Team of the Year AND Wrestler of the Year at once!
