CHIKARA Young Lions Cup Champion: Shane Storm, Since 7/24/2005![]() CHIKARA Tag World Grand Prix 2006 Night One February 24th, 2006 Hellertown Star Lanes Hellertown, PA Everyone in the tournament tonight comes out for a photo, and the winner of this years tournament will win the first ever CHIKARA tag titles. UltraMantis Black has been injured, so Hallowicked is without a partner, as is Arik Cannon, but that's because nobody likes him after his association with the Kings of Wrestling. Hallowicked's match is up first, and as per CHIKARA tradition, names are drawn from a hat. Delirious is chosen, AND INCOHERENCE IS FORMED! Match #1: Incoherence vs. Crossbones/Rorschach [1st Round] Hallowicked and Delirious immediately gel wonderfully as a team. Their gibberish communication is wildly entertaining. Good basic match, nothing too big or serious, but entertaining. Incoherence somehow pulls off the win with a Springboard Hart Attack. **1/4 Match #2: Allison Danger/Alere Little Feather vs. Sumie Sakai/Rainmaru [1st Round] Oh hey, women's wrestling. This happened. The all Japanese team won. *1/2 Match #3: Yoshiaki Yago/MIYAWAKI vs. The Iron Saints [1st Round] Yago and MIYAWAKI are from K-DOJO in Japan, which is owned by TAKA Michinoku. The more you know. The Iron Saints are Sal and Vito Thomaselli out of IWA-MS, and usually they absolutely blow, but in CHIKARA, they always come off way better than usual. This is all about establishing the Japanese guys, as it's based around their awesome strikes. And god damn, they are really awesome. Yago has amazing explosions of straight punches and kicks and headbutts, and MIYAWAKI makes one of the fag boys tap with a Crossface. **1/2 Match #4: Eddie Kingston/Sabian vs. Ian Rotten/Mickie Knuckles [1st Round] This...is shockingly mat-based and good. What the fuck? Lots of good holds and stuff and when Ian and King began throwing down, it was good. Ian Rotten doing matwork is so surreal, but actually good. Like if lucha matwork was mixed in with meth. It's not great or amazing, but it's interesting. King beats Ian with the Oklahoma Roll. **1/2 Match #5: Up in Smoke vs. The Gambino Brothers [1st Round] The Gambinos kinda suck, but Cheech and Cloudy are constantly improving. AND NOW THEY HAVE REAL GEAR! YEAH! Their offense was pretty awesome, and after Partly Cloudy with a Chance of Cheech, Cheech follows up with the SSP for the win. ** In the back, Arik Cannon is asking random people to be his partner tomorrow night, but nobody says yes. In the back, The Kings of Wrestling cut a promo. Hero and Claudio say they carried their partners to the finals last year, and Cannon and Claudio only won because he allowed out. However, this year belongs to Hero and Claudio and they will be the first CHIKARA Campeones Des Parejas. Match #6: The Kings of Wrestling vs. Equinox/Hydra [1st Round] Hero and Claudio vs. two inexperienced small skinny guys, so it's not as amazing as they'll do later in the tournament, but it is quite great. Hydra's act is fantastic. The Kings guide the kids through lucha sequences. 14 minutes is a little long for this blatant of a showcase match, but it was mostly good stuff. Hydra gets beaten with the Double Team Hero's Welcome. **1/2 Match #7: KUDO/MIKAMI vs. Larry Sweeney/Mana [1st Round] KUDO and MIKAMI are from DDT. Lots of dudes with capital letter names tonight. This was short, and again only really served to get over the Japanese guys' offense. MIKAMI beats Mana with a Swanton Bomb. *3/4 Sweeney walks out Mana post-match. Arik Cannon comes out and he says he knows someone else needs a partner for tomorrow, and he asks Jigsaw to come out here. Jigsaw comes out and Cannon asks him to be his partner. Jigsaw says he wants the tag titles a lot, but not with Cannon as his partner. He asks Cannon how he can trust him when he tried to unmask him last year, and says he'll take his chances on a random partner over Cannon, and he walks out on him. Match #8: Matt Turner/Anthony Franco vs. CP Munk/Colt Cabunny [1st Round] After about a minute of matwork, MUNK AND BUNNY TAKE OFF THEIR HOODS AND IT'S NECRO BUTCHER AND JOKER! OH SHIT! They absolutely murder the ROH kids for a few minutes and it is brutal as fuck and amazing. Necro hits a RIDICULOUS Lariat on Franco for the win. ** Match #9: Incoherence vs. Up in Smoke [2nd Round] This delivers. Up in Smoke are kind of riding the line between heel and face due to people acknowledging how much they've improved and them being a really fun tag team, so this is sort of face vs. face. Some really crisp and energetic lucha mixed in with Delirious' comedy. Up in Smoke took over due to having more tag experience. Hallowicked makes a pretty awesome babyface, actually. Good finishing run and Hallowicked hits the Graveyard Smash at the same time that Delirious hits the Bizarro Driver, and they get a double pin. *** Match #10: The Kings of Wrestling vs. Sumie Sakai/Rainmaru [2nd Round] Another quality KOW showcase. The Kings are SUCH dicks early on, with Hero telling the girls that they should just forfeit and go make them sandwiches, because it would cause them less pain and the result would actually be something productive. They don't, so the Kings are dicks. The girls then get a few small things in, so they start killing the girls. They eventually hit a Double Team Ricola Bomb for the win. **1/2 Match #11: Yoshiaki Yago/MIYAWAKI vs. KUDO/MIKAMI [2nd Round] A Yago/KUDO exchange in the first minute or so of this is incredible. Lots of huge strikes here and a power vs. speed dynamic. The work on KUDO's knee didn't go anywhere and wasn't sold, but otherwise, this ruled. Really great finishing run. KUDO beats MIYAWAKI with the Flying Double Knees. *** Match #12: Eddie Kingston/Sabian vs. Necro Butcher/Joker [2nd Round] This should not have followed that match. It has a lot of the same elements, but is not as completely batshit insane, so it doesn't really work following it. Still though, it's King vs. Necro, that always delivers. Some of the matwork opening was good, but it went on way too long. I get that they can all go on the mat, it's cool. But you want to see these dudes beat the fuck out of each other. They finally get to it, but then yeah, it just kind of ends. Sabian rolls up Joker to win. **3/4 Incoherence, KUDO/MIKAMI, Kingston/Sabian, and the Kings are all in the Quarterfinals on 2/26. |

CHIKARA Young Lions Cup Champion: Shane Storm, Since 7/24/2005![]() CHIKARA Tag World Grand Prix 2006 Night Two February 25th, 2006 Reading, PA In the back, Arik Cannon says he's confident that he will find a partner tonight. In the back, Lancelot cuts a promo. One of the Lance Steels comes in late and the first one there asks where he's been. He says he was shopping at Wal Mart with Dragon Dragon, and his partner says that is unacceptable and knights cannot fraternize with dragons. In the back, Arik Cannon asks that CZW shithead Andy Sumner to be his partner, but he says no. Match #1: Lancelot vs. The Colony [1st Round] The Colony debuts! They are Fire Ant and Soldier Ant. They aren't really any good at this point, but come 2007, they get pretty good. Some good matwork and lucha here, and this is better than I expected for a debut match from The Colony. The Lances win with a Stereo Boston Crab. **1/4 Match #2: The North Star Express vs. Devon Moore/Drew Blood [1st Round] The NSE are really coming into their own as a fun babyface tag team. The opponents are from CZW and really not good at all, but this is 7 minutes and an NSE showcase, so it's whatever. They eventually win with Cruz Control. ** In the back, Arik Cannon finds Niles Young and asks him to be his partner. He says his knee is hurt and he's here to watch the show, so he refuses. Thank GOD. Match #3: Team F.I.S.T. vs. Daizee Haze/Rain [1st Round] Egh. Haze and Rain are at least better than the women on Night 1, I suppose. This also helped build up FIST more as deranged lunatics, Akuma especially, since he laughed when kicking the shit out of the girls, which is the most emotion he's shown in a while. Icarus beats Rain with the Burning Wings of Icarus. ** Match #4: Men At Work vs. 2.0 [1st Round] FUCK YEAH! 2.0! FEEL THE FLOW! They are awesome obnoxious coward heels. This is 7 minutes and full od 2.0 shenanigans to put over M@W. Mr. ZERO wins with the Last Shaven Unicorn Drop. ** Match #5: Shinjitsu Nohashi/Amigo Suzuki vs. Dragon Dragon/Retail Dragon [1st Round] TRIPLE DRAGON! Amigo is the former Chuichiro Arai. Nohashi is doing a Hakushi gimmick. BUT WHO GIVES A SHIT, IT'S FUCKING DRAGON DRAGON! Good lucha when Retail was in. Awesome comedy with DD. Nohashi hits a Crucifix Bomb for the win on Retail. **1/4 Match #6: Skayde/Milano Collection AT vs. The Prescription Thugs [1st Round] Blatant showcase for Skayde/Milano against a comedy team, but it was an enjoyable showcase for the 5 minutes or so that it lasted. They get on a crazy double team hold where Milano puts on the AT Lock as Skayde puts on a Figure Four, and Dr. Cheung has to tap out at that, because holy shit, who wouldn't? *3/4 Arik Cannon comes out for the next 1st round match, and he calls out Jigsaw. He says either he's his partner right now, or he's not in the tournament. He says he won last year and he has experience and Jigsaw can't tell him he doesn't want to win the tournament. He says they don't have to be friends, they just have to be tag partners, and Jigsaw actually accepts! Match #7: Arik Cannon/Jigsaw vs. Kevin Steen/Sexxxy Eddie [1st Round] This is a lot of fun. Eddie isn't great, but the other three are all fantastic. Really strikes me here how Cannon could have been a much bigger name on the indies in the 2000s if he lived closer to one of the major indy markets, be it LA, Chicago, or Philly/NJ/NY. The Cannon/Steen stuff is really awesome. Jig beats Eddie with a Flying Legdrop. **3/4 Match #8: Osamu Nishimura/Katsushi Takemura vs. The Heartbreak Express [1st Round] According to Eddie Kingston, Nishimura was in ECW. So there's that. I'd ask Biggie how he was, but he doesn't read this. Fuck him. No idea why he hates the Briscoes and Chris Sabin so much either. I've never really been impressed by Shane Douglas either. Hey, this also happened. The HBX are absolutely awful. Really poor "fat guys pretending to be sexy" old school heel stuff. The Japanese guys have a lot of cool matwork, but this was short. Nishimura gets a backslide to win. *1/2 NSE brings out their special manager for the weekend, JAMES J. DILLON! WOW! Yes, this is THE JJ Dillon. Match #9: Lancelot vs. The North Star Express w/ J.J. Dillon [2nd Round] Solid 8 minutes, but not really a ton to write about here. The NSE counter the Stereo Boston Crab with stereo roll ups for the upset win. **1/4 Match #10: Team F.I.S.T. vs. Men At Work [2nd Round] This is quite the grudge match. MUCH HATE! Storm and FIST have both grown a lot since last spring, so this is their best match yet. Really energetic and frantic pace to get across how intense the feud is. Akuma is especially violent. Icarus still isn't great, despite having his moments, but is just such a dick and such a great heel that it allows Akuma to carry the ringwork. Good finishing run and Icarus just KILLS ZERO WITH A TORNADO PEDIGREE OFF THE APRON TO THE FLOOR! Disgusting thud on landing, and he is motionless for the rest of this. Storm fighting two guys and realizing he's all alone was really well done. He has an adrenaline rush like at YLC vs. Icarus, but now he has to fight two men, and can't do it. Akuma wins with the Yoshi Tonic. *** Mr. ZERO is stretchered out, and his career is now over. Match #11: Arik Cannon/Jigsaw vs. Osamu Nishimura/Katsushi Takemura [2nd Round] Real good stuff. The Japanese got to do a lot more against real opponents. Lots of really awesome matwork. Quack is awesome on commentary, being upset at Jig teaming with Cannon and not trusting Cannon. The crowd is kind of out after the injury angle to ZERO, so that takes away a little bit. They have a good story with Cannon and Jigsaw not having great chemistry with Cannon working the arm and Jig working the leg. Nishimura beats Jig with a Figure Four. **3/4 Match #12: Skayde/Milano Collection AT vs. Amigo Suzuki/Shinjitsu Nohashi [2nd Round] Really enjoyable lucha and matwork showcase. Tons of really unique stuff. Some awesome sequences, but I think it goes on a little long for this style at 20 minutes or so without developing more than just a lot of neat stuff. Milano hits a Super Ace Crusher and a Twisting Lionsault for the win. **3/4 |

CHIKARA Young Lions Cup Champion: Shane Storm, Since 7/24/2005![]() CHIKARA Tag World Grand Prix 2006 Night Three February 26th, 2006 The New Alhambra Arena February 26th, 2006 Match #1: Allison Danger/Rain/Rainmaru vs. Daizee Haze/Mickie Knuckles/Sumie Sakai This was whatever. Nothing really spectacular, but nothing outwardly bad either. Danger rolls up Sakai for the win. *3/4 Match #2: The Kings of Wrestling vs. The North Star Express w/ J.J. Dillon [Quarterfinals] This was fucking great. Amazing KOW performance to convince people that the NSE had an actual chance at winning. Great matwork, then an awesome Kings control seg. Cruz had a really good control seg, and the finishing run was fantastic. Some really inventive counters to signature spots, before the Kings shut down the Cinderella story with the Double Ricola Bomb for the win. ***1/4 Match #3: Eddie Kingston/Sabian vs. Team F.I.S.T. [Quarterfinals] This was a little disappointing, in that it was only very good and not great, due to some sloppiness on FIST's end in the middle. BLK-OUT had some real good double teams in this. Sabian was especially on point with kicks and high flying stuff. FIST had a good control seg. For whatever reason, Icarus now having actual good tights has improved his game in my eyes. Just seems more professional, I guess. Real good finishing run and Akuma beats Kingston with the Super Yoshi Tonic. **3/4 Match #4: Incoherence vs. KUDO/MIKAMI [Quarterfinals] Good stuff for 9 minutes. Not great, but that's probably because they kept it fairly low key until a big awesome finishing run. Delirious gets MIKAMI with the Bizarro Driver for the win. **1/2 Match #5: Skayde/Milano Collection AT vs. Osamu Nishimura/Katsushi Takemura [Quarterfinals] This was what it was. The classic matwork vs. lucha thing really didn't mesh at all. Skayde gets one of those crafty asians with the Skayde Special for the win. **1/2 Match #6: Jigsaw/Shane Storm/Equinox vs. MIYAWAKI/Amigo Suzuki/Shinjitsu Nohashi Good stuff. Took a while to really get going, but the control seg on Equinox and then the last 4-5 minutes were pretty fun and awesome. Storm beats Suzuki with That Japanese Move. **1/2 Match #7: Arik Cannon/Joker/Ian Rotten vs. Kevin Steen/The Iron Saints Fun 10 minutes. They throw down and it happens. Cannon hits one of the faggot brothers with the Glimmering Warlock to win. **3/4 Match #8: The Kings of Wrestling vs. Incoherence [Semi-Finals] FUUUUUUUCK ANOTHER KILLER KOW MATCH! BEST IN THE WORLD! I HOLD UP 2006 AS THE BEST YEAR FOR TAG WRESTLING IN THE LAST DECADE! FUCK IT, IN HISTORY! KOW, Cape Fear, Londrick, MNM, Hardys, Cade/Murdoch, Aries/Strong, Briscoes, LAX, AJ/Daniels, Embassy, Arrogance, etc. ANYWAYS, the match. Good matwork and opening, awesome Kings control seg, etc. AMAZING finishing run of cool double teams and nearfalls from both sides. Claudio intercepts Shadows Over Hell with a European Uppercut. Hero hits Delirious with the Hero's Welcome: Championship Edition. CLAUDIO THEN SLIDES UNDER THE BOTTOM ROPE TO CUT OFF HALLOWICKED WITH A BASEBALL SLIDE EUROPEAN UPPERCUT! GOD DAMN! Hero pins Delirious to win. ***1/2 Match #9: Team F.I.S.T. vs. Skayde/Milano Collection AT [Semi-Finals] Really good, but not quite great. Never really gets out of the first gear, before AT makes Akuma tap to the AT Lock. **1/2 Match #10: Necro Butcher vs. Yoshiaki Yago THIS IS THE MARVELOUS NECRO BUTCHER MATCH OF THE WEEKEND! Crazy 7 minute slugfest. Just insane strikes from both men. Really just hard to explain. Yago wins with a nasty looking Dragon Suplex. *** Match #11: Larry Sweeney/2.0/The Heartbreak Express vs. Sexxxy Eddie/Dragon Dragon/Retail Dragon/Player Uno/Max Boyer Fun bullshit comedy to kill time between that war and the main event. They do a gigantic 9 man rowboat spot, and Retail manages to pin Jagged of 2.0 during that for the win. ** Match #12: The Kings of Wrestling vs. Skayde/Milano Collection AT [2006 TWGP FINALS - CHIKARA Campeonatos Des Parejas] Good, but the worst Kings match tonight. More lucha based and matwork based than their two classic style tag matches. Still, a lot of really awesome stuff going on throughout. Big nearfalls at the end from the babyfaces, and yeah. The Kings beat Skayde with the Double Ricola Bomb to win the titles and the tournament.*** Hero and Claudio hold up the belts and point at Quack in the balcony, and he just shakes his head. Awesome visual. |

CHIKARA Campeones Des Parejas: The Kings of Wrestling, Since 2/26/2006 CHIKARA Young Lions Cup Champion: Shane Storm, Since 7/24/2005 ![]() CHIKARA Naked March 31st, 2006 Reading, PA In the back, Lance Steel apologizes to Lance Storm for last month, and he forgives himself. He says they're coming for the belts! There's a new rule now that CHIKARA has tag titles. To get a tag title shot, a team must gain 3 points. A point is given for each tag match that a team wins, and once you lose a match, you go back down to 0 points. Also, any future tag title matches will be under Best of Three Falls rules. Match #1: Lancelot vs. Triple Dragon Fun bullshit comedy opener, due to the interplay between knights and dragons. Dragon Dragon was amazing, and some of the retail from the Lances and Retail Dragon was pretty awesome, so this is getting into peak CHIKARA territory where the comedy matches also worked as legitimate wrestling matches. THEY WORK THE TAIL OF DRAGON DRAGON! Stuff happens and one of the Lances beats Retail with a Boston Crab to get 1 point. **1/4 Match #2: The Colony vs. The Prescription Thugs Another enjoyable mostly bullshit match. Not as good as the last one, due to the inexperience of The Colony, but it had its bright spots. The Colony wins with a Liger Bomb/Neckbreaker combo whilst marching, because they are ants. ** Match #3: Crossbones vs. Andy Sumner Good X-Bones showcase. Lots of really really brutal kicks and slaps and he wins with the Here It Is Driver. **1/4 Post-match, Crossbones challenges Shane Storm to a YLC match next month. In the back, Kingston and Joker cut a promo. King is mad that they're CZW Tag Team Champions, but they still have to win three matches for him to get Chris Hero in the ring one more time, but he'll do it. He says Cheech and Cloudy are stepping stones tonight, no offense, and they're going to step right over them. Match #4: Eddie Kingston/Joker [c] vs. Up in Smoke [CZW Tag Team Championship] This rules. UIS are vaguely heelish, but seem to use more actual skill to get ahead than cheating, showing their growth as wrestlers. They work a nice power vs. speed story in this match, and Cheech and Cloudy take killer bumps. They take over by working King's arm and his selling rules. Awesome finishing run, showing off how much UIS can take before BLK-OUT wins with a Powerbomb/Lariat combo. *** Match #5: Hallowicked vs. Rorschach Hallowicked is again accepted as a babyface. They do a ton of really awesome and inventive spots, despite no real story going on. Hallowicked hits this disgustingly great Yakuza Kick, and then does the Graveyard Smash to win. I'm thinking about bringing Incoherence of Wicked and Delirious into WCW around 06-07. Thoughts? **3/4 Match #6: Mike Quackenbush [c] vs. Ares [WXW Championship] Quack returned from back surgery to win Ares' WXW Title in Germany in March, and this is a rematch. Ares works on the back. Quack is awesome, but Ares is sure a boring motherfucker. His back work is lame, but Quack's selling of it is great. Quack passes out in a Sharpshooter and Ares regains his belt and goes to fuck off back to Germany before returning in 2010 to ruin CHIKARA. **3/4 Match #7: Team F.I.S.T. vs. Jigsaw/Shane Storm Storm is really mad at Icarus for retiring ZERO, so this is hotly contested. Jigsaw/Akuma was a cool lucha sequence, and then FIST had a great control seg on Jigsaw. They have a solid finishing run. Mostly all crisp stuff with some cool ideas, but just never really got to that next level to be great. Icarus beats Jigsaw with the Pedigree. **3/4 Match #8: Larry Sweeney [c] w/ Mana vs. Milano Collection AT [ICW-ICWA Texarkana Television Championship] Really enjoyable Sweeney shtick match. He hangs with AT on the mat, and AT being awesome at lucha and matwork allows Sweeney's stalling to come off as the product of being outmatched, and not just the shtick. Sweeney finally takes over, and it is good stuff. Lots and lots of cheating. AT makes a big comeback and yeah. The only real issue with this is a totally dead crowd dragging it down. Milano gets on the AT Lock to win the title! *** |

CHIKARA Campeones Des Parejas: The Kings of Wrestling, Since 2/26/2006 CHIKARA Young Lions Cup Champion: Shane Storm, Since 7/24/2005 ![]() CHIKARA Sand In The Vaseline April 21st, 2006 Reading, PA Match #1: Gran Akuma vs. Andy Sumner Awesome 2 minute squash. Sumner took a hell of a beating and Akuma had some ungodly kicks here. Andy is KO'd after a nasty Buzzsaw Kick. ** In the back, Larry Sweeney cuts a promo with Mana. He blames Mana for him losing the ICW-ICWA Texarkana TV Title last month to Milano Collection AT, and says he's not going to spend the money to fly him back to the US for a rematch, so instead, they're going to go for the Campeonatos Des Parejas, and they'll get their first point tonight. Match #2: Lancelot [1] vs. Larry Sweeney/Mana That [1] means Lancelot has one point. This was a lot of fun. One of the Lances continues his more aggressive nature. Mana is generally alright, and Sweeney's act and his shtick is a lot of fun. Sweeney gets slingshotted into Mana on the apron, and whichever Lance Steel did that then rolls up Sweeney to get their second point! **1/4 Sweeney yells at Mana post-match and he slaps him! Mana then hits Sweeney with the Samoan Drop and walks out on him. Match #3: Player Uno vs. Dr. Cheung This was a fun 2 minute comedy match. They play on Uno's shorts, which are modeled after the NES controller. He presses the pause button, and Uno cannot move now. He unpauses him and Uno is confused and Cheung then hits the Doctor Bomb to win. *1/2 Match #4: Daizee Haze vs. Allison Danger Haze's heel stuff in CHIKARA is fun, but that still won't make this into a good match. They do some stuff and Haze wins with a Yakuza Kick to the temple of a bent over Danger. *3/4 Match #5: Up in Smoke/Rorschach vs. The Colony/Retail Dragon Surprisingly fun trios match. Up in Smoke randomly make with the really good matwork. The Colony are clearly still learning, but they show flashes of greatness. Soldier Ant doing a salute whenever possible is awesome commitment to gimmick. Retail gets Cheech with a SSP for the win. **1/2 Match #6: Eddie Kingston/Sabian vs. 2.0 Both teams have 0 points. Awesome stalling bullshit heel performance from 2.0. Stands out a lot when opposite the super serious BLK-OUT, who subsequently murder them with strikes and offense. BLK OUT has a brief cheating control seg and then King gets back in. Sabian wipes out Shane Matthews with a dive and then Kingston breaks out the old Royal Flush on Jagged to win. **1/2 Match #7: Jigsaw vs. Icarus Fun match, but they're clearly capable of better. Felt sort of held back, despite being perfectly acceptable. Some really nasty work from Icarus on the neck. Jig makes a comeback and yeah. Ref is accidentally bumped and it allows Icarus to hit a low blow. He then hits the Pedigree for the win. **1/2 In the back, Incoherence cuts a promo entirely in jibberish. Match #8: The Kings of Wrestling vs. Incoherence Incoherence has 0 points. I have no idea why this is not the main event. This is awesome. Not quite as awesome as their match in February, but awesome nonetheless. This has a lot more focus on Delirious' bullshit to begin, and Hero growing more and more upset and stooging like crazy for it really made it work. Kings get the awesome control seg on Delirious and Hallowicked makes the big hot tag. Big finishing run, and Claudio ends up kicking Delirious right in the groin for a blatant DQ. *** Hallowicked clears the Kings from the ring. Match #9: Shane Storm [c] vs. Crossbones [CHIKARA Young Lion's Cup] This is fine and all, but the Shane Storm-amania is pretty clearly over, as he's not getting nearly the pops that he was in 2005. This is a bit awkward at points, but had some great moments. Storm hits That Japanese Move while X-Bones is standing in the corner and then he gets the pin when he falls for the win. **1/2 |

CHIKARA Campeones Des Parejas: The Kings of Wrestling, Since 2/26/2006 CHIKARA Young Lions Cup Champion: Shane Storm, Since 7/24/2005 ![]() CHIKARA Apocalypso April 23rd, 2006 Barnesville, PA Match #1: Larry Sweeney vs. Matt Turner Good showcase of Sweeney's shtick and offense. Lots of fun stuff for 7 minutes, and Turner was generally fine again. Sweeney wins with a Piledriver. ** Sweeney walks up to a stage in the back with a microphone on it. He dubs this area as The Winner's Circle and says he'll be conducting interviews with the winners all night long, and then goes to do commentary. Match #2: Rorschach vs. Retail Dragon This was half cool moves done well and half Retail coming within inches of absolutely killing himself. He seems to have gotten progressively sloppier as 2006 goes on. Retail gets a botched Springboard Huracanrana for the win. *3/4 Retail goes up to the Winner's Circle and Sweeney calls himself the best looking man in Barnesville, and then in a classic Sweeney-sm, "IS LARRY SWEENEY LOOKING GOOD TONIGHT OR WHAT?!" Retail says he wants a spot in Young Lion's Cup in June, but Sweeney blows him off and puts himself over some more. Match #3: Daizee Haze vs. Alere Little Feather This was alright. Haze showcase, for the most part, and she wins with a Sleeper variant. *1/2 Haze goes to The Winner's Circle and nothing of note is said. Match #4: Eddie Kingston vs. Dr. Cheung According to commentary, this was supposed to be Kingston vs. Crossbones, but Bones got hurt on the last show. This is a 3-4 minute Kingston squash, and Chris Hero joins commentary with Sweeney and UMB to shit on Kingston. Lots of great throws and strikes. Crossbones comes out with a chain, but Kingston intercepts it while he distracts the ref and hits Cheung with it and he uses the Royal Flush once again for the win. ** Eddie Kingston goes back up to the Winner's Circle with Larry Sweeney, and Sweeney puts him over. He asks about the chain, but Kingston denies it and they laugh. Sweeney brings up that Chris Hero did commentary for the match ,but King grabs the mic from him. He said because he said that name, the joking is over and this interview is over, and he leaves. Sweeney is not happy. Match #5: Lancelot [2] vs. The Colony [1] If Lancelot wins, they can choose to get a CDP tag title shot. If they lose, they go back to 0 points. This is a fun match, and The Colony continues to show promise. They do a good job furthering the discord between the two Lance Steels. Colony has some fun offense and dives, but then Soldier Ant gets caught in the Boston Crab, and he taps. Lancelot now has 3 points! **1/4 Lancelot goes up to the Winner's Circle with Larry Sweeney. They argue a little bit over some miscommuncation, but Sweeney then asks if they're going to challenge the Kings of Wrestling now that they have 3 points. One of them says that they have had their issues lately, but they intend on going for the belts. Match #6: Chris Hero vs. Delirious Eddie Kingston now does commentary with UMB and Sweeney. Delirious has his hand taped up from the nasty cut he got at the ROH 100th Show the night before. This gives Hero something to base it around, so this is great. A little too long for what they were doing, but still really good. Hero gets more brutal o nthe hand and starts twisting it around, so Delirious has to tap. *** Hero goes up to the Winner's Circle with Sweeney. He says he's not a bad person for attacking a pre-existing injury and says nobody is taking the titles off the Kings of Wrestling. Match #7: Mike Quackenbush/Jigsaw/Shane Storm vs. Claudio Castagnoli/Team F.I.S.T. Good, not great. Lots of fun stuff while advancing a feud and also callbacks to others. And Claudio/Quack, which is the best. Quack and Claudio carry the others through some matwork. Jigsaw, Storm, and FIST all have bright spots, but Storm and Icarus have some sloppier stuff too. Jigsaw got isolated and a lot of focus was on Icarus/Jigsaw. Some awesome triple teams from the Kings' team. A little too contrived of a multiple chain submission spot at the end, and the crowd sucked. Jigsaw gets revenge on Icarus with the Jig n' Tonic for the win. **3/4 |

CHIKARA Campeones Des Parejas: The Kings of Wrestling, Since 2/26/2006 CHIKARA Young Lions Cup Champion: Shane Storm, Since 7/24/2005 ![]() CHIKARA Aniversario Delta May 26th, 2006 Reading, PA In the back, 2.0 cuts a promo. Shane Matthews is on a crutch but says he knows they'll still win the Royal Rumble tonight. Cameraman says it's a tag team gauntlet, and he is mad. He is confused at being told they have to fight REAL JAPANESE PEOPLE. Jagged says they will beat every team to fight the Kings of Wrestling. AND GOLD! YOU WILL FEEL THE FLOW OF 2.0! Match #1: Lancelot [3] vs. Equinox/Angel del Fuego vs. Triple Dragon vs. The Prescription Thugs vs. The Colony vs. Casanova/Shane Valentine vs. The North Star Express vs. MIYAWAKI/Yoshiaki Yago vs. Crossbones/Rorschach vs. 2.0 [Gauntlet Match] 10 teams total, and I again wrote them in terms of entry. Lancelot enterting this is REALLY risky, since they already have 3 points. They have a match with the fake Mexicans, and it is no good. Fuego is just AWFUL. Lancelot wins with a Boston Crab to get 4 points. Triple Dragon then gets in and that is fun enough. DRAGON DRAGON WITH A SCHOOLBOY, AND LANCELOT IS GONE! BACK TO 0 POINTS! one of the Lances is super mad. Thugs are in next. Really fun comedy stuff. Cheung gets Retail with a Doctor Bomb for the win there. The Colony are next and they quickly eliminate the Thugs. Casanova and Valentine are next, and they are awful! Horribly, Valentine gets a roll up on Soldier for the win. NSE are next and are the first actual really good team here. They win with the Cruz Control. Team K-DOJO is in next and they destroy the NSE in amazing form. MIYAWAKI beats one of them with a Reverse DDT. RorschBones is next. Another great KD showcase. Yago vs. XBones is amazing. 2.0 is in last and does a ton of cheating before they also get killed. Yago and MIYAWAKI win, and now have 3 points! **1/2 Before the next match, Leonard F. Chikarason announces that tomorrow night, it will be the KOW vs. Team K-DOJO for the belts! Match #2: Daizee Haze vs. Allison Danger This happened! Their best match together, due to actually having a focus with Haze's work on Danger's arm. She actually sells it and shit. Haze then wins with a Jujigatame. ** Match #3: Delirious vs. Jon Moxley Moxley is clean cut and a cocky generic heel, and it is just so strange. This is an overly long Delirious showcase, and Mox fails to really leave much of an impression. Delirious wins with a cradle. ** Match #4: Larry Sweeney vs. Mana Good Sweeney showcase. He bumps and stooges well and works on Mana's arm to get some stuff in. Mana's work makes no sense here. He's playing a Samoan savage gimmick, and he decides to work the mat all match? I mean, it looks good and it's a good match, but it makes no sense. Arm work pays off with a Divorce Court, and then Sweeney hits the 12 Large Elbow to win. **1/4 Match #5: Hallowicked vs. Andy Sumner Good 2 minute Hallowicked squash. He hits a NASTY Yakuza Kick for the KO win. ** In the back, Eddie Kingston cuts a promo. He says he has a match tonight with Arik Cannon with the winner going into the YLC tournament next month. He says Cannon still has a lot to prove to everyone after a year with the Kings of Wrestling, and he doesn't trust him, so tonight's going to be a war. He says nothing will keep him from finally getting into the YLC tournament and winning, since he feels like he built this company just as much as anyone. Match #6: Eddie Kingston vs. Arik Cannon [YLC Qualifying Match] This is the kind of amazing big knock down drag out epic slugfest that Kingston has made his name off of. There's some storytelling in that they both go for the neck, but otherwise, it's just two dudes slugging it out. Opening matwork is good, and Cannon is able to go for the neck. It's good, and if King made a normal comeback, it'd probably be a really good match. When King fights back though, it becomes this insane war. Awesome selling and violent strikes from both guys, AND CANNON HITS A BRAINBUSTER ON THE WOOD FLOOR! King starts selling nerve damage in his neck, unable to really lift his arm, but makes one of his AMAZING fighting spirit comebacks where he's clearly out on his feet, and Cannon wins with the Glimmering Warlock. Cannon was good here, but it was King's work that made this great. ***3/4 Match #7: Mike Quackenbush/Milano Collection AT/Jigsaw/Shane Storm vs. The Kings of Wrestling/Team F.I.S.T. Hey, this was great. Shocking. Maybe the best of all the KOW vs. Quack tags. They play a lot on Quack/Hero and build up Jigsaw/Icarus a lot. Lots of great matwork and lucha to open up and even Icarus was super on his game. Hero refuses to fight Quack, and then Quack and Claudio have a totally insane sequence. Icarus and Jigsaw have a ton of hate for each other, and it is great. The Kings get their control segments and they are all wonderful. The final one on Jigsaw started to drag a little, but then the finishing run was really really outstanding stuff. Everyone was crisp and fast, and it all came off really well. Storm hits Akuma with That Japanese Move to win. **** Post-match, Icarus and Jigsaw have a brawl on the floor, but their partners pull them off of each other. |

CHIKARA Campeones Des Parejas: The Kings of Wrestling, Since 2/26/2006 CHIKARA Young Lions Cup Champion: Shane Storm, Since 7/24/2005 ![]() CHIKARA Aniversario Epsilon May 27th, 2006 Barnesville, PA Match #1: The North Star Express vs. Eddie Kingston/Shinsuke Yamagasa Sabian got hurt, so they called in a random foreigner. Yamagasa isn't much, but King is great enough to carry it through against a good team. Sweeney keeps giving Eddie shit on commentary. King has a great finishing run, and beats one of them with the Royal Flush. **1/2 Sweeney goes up to The Winner's Circle, and he invites Eddie Kingston up. King doesn't want to do it at first, but Sweeney says he means no harm, and King yells at him to stop taking the spotlight off the winners and to just sit down and do commentary. Sweeney yells to get up and answer his questions, so King stands close enough. Sweeney asks where Joker or Sabian is, and then asks why King is always doing tag wrestling when he can't keep a partner. Kingston tells him to learn some respect and Sweeney asks him where Blackjack Marciano is! HOLY SHIT! King throws the mic down and says he told him not to do that, and says he can do his thing and he has no issue, but he told him not to mention his name. King says that's off limits, and he shoves him. Sweeney backs off, and storms off. That ruled. Match #2: Sara Del Rey vs. Daizee Haze Good stuff! Great matwork and really physical, and just these two having their usual fun match. Haze counters a German into a Victory Roll to continue to be undefeated in her recent CHIKARA run. **1/4 Match #3: The Colony/Lance Steel vs. Rorschach/Casanova/Shane Valentine AWFUL MATCH. Really really cloppy and clumsy work from everyone, and it got 15 minutes, so it just dragged on forever and ever. Soldier Ant finally beats Rorshach with a Blockbuster. * Match #4: Arik Cannon vs. Jon Moxley This sure happened. Lots of stalling and nothing, and Moxley pulls off a HUGE upset with an Oklahoma Roll. ** 2.0 comes out with Max Boyer, and Shane Matthews is on crutches. He says he reinjured his leg in the gauntlet last night, and to represent Canada, they got the greatest Canadian wrestler of all time, CHRIS BENOIT! Boyer is confused, and Boyer is clearly the replacement, but Matthews refuses to accept this. They all put their hands together and yell CHRIS BENOIT! on 3. This is hilarious now. Match #5: Incoherence [1] vs. Jagged/Max Boyer w/ Shane Matthews Delirious vs. 2.0 is wildly entertaining. Awesome 2.0 bumping and stalling, and then they took over with a ton of cheating. Delirious has a big awesome hot tag, and then he wins with the Cobra Stretch. I hope 2.0 keeps getting booked forever. **1/2 Match #6: Dr. Cheung vs. Equinox [YLC Qualifying Match] Brief match, thankfully. They do stuff, and then Equinox gets his ridiculous Standing SSP to win. *1/4 Team F.I.S.T. comes out and Icarus gets on the mic. He says they were supposed to wrestle Yago and MIYAWAKI, but now they have a title shot, and they're without a match. Leonard F. Chikarason comes out and says he knows two guys who really want to fight them, and Quack and Storm run out. Match #7: Mike Quackenbush/Shane Storm vs. Team F.I.S.T. [1] This was mostly good stuff. Some minor sloppiness from Icarus and Storm, but it didn't affect the match as much as a dead crowd did. I love the way the venue looks, but Barnesville is a shitty crowd. Storm gets killed by FIST, and that is fun. Quack has a good hot tag, but then they reinjure his bad back. Great selling by Quack. Icarus puts on a shoddy Liontamer, and Quack passes out. This did a great job of putting over FIST just the right amount so it feels like they actually earned the win. **3/4 Match #8: Milano Collection AT [c] vs. Larry Sweeney [ICW-ICWA Texarkana Television Championship] Good stuff once again. Sweeney works on the knee that the KOW team worked on last night. Good quality knee work from Sweeney. Milano's selling was pretty awesome too, which surprised me. Sweeney brings out a chain as a decoy and as Bryce gets rid of it, Sweeney uses brass knucks and then hits the 12 Large Elbow to regain the belt. *** Sweeney makes his way back up The Winner's Circle and says all is fair when it comes to his title. He says he said some things earlier that he regrets, and he asks Eddie Kingston to come back out here so he can apologize. Kingston comes out and Sweeney says he shouldn't have said what he said, and he's sorry. He offers a handshake, and King shakes his hand and says it's fine and says they can do this in the back. They hug and Sweeney raises King's hand, BUT SWEENEY HITS HIM WITH THE BRASS KNUCKS! King takes a great bump off the small stage and Sweeney says nobody tells Larry Sweeney to respect them, and he started something but Larry Sweeney finished it. Sweeney leaves, and people come out to help Kingston up. Match #9: The Kings of Wrestling [c] vs. MIYAWAKI/Yoshiaki Yago [CHIKARA Campeonatos Des Parejas] All CDP matches are under Best of Three Falls rules. Takes a little bit to get going and the crowd is horrible, but the work was good enough. The Japs go up 1-0 at about 15 minutes with a Cobra Stretch from MIYAWAKI to Hero. Claudio then fakes being low blowed by Yago to even it up. Really awesome finishing run, and the Kings retain with a Double Ricola Bomb. **3/4 |

CHIKARA Campeones Des Parejas: The Kings of Wrestling, Since 2/26/2006 CHIKARA Young Lions Cup Champion: Vacant ![]() CHIKARA Young Lion's Cup IV Night One June 23rd, 2006 Reading, PAThu All the guys in Night 1 come out for the photo op. Match #1: Lance Steel vs. Shane Valentine [1st Round] This sure happened. This Lance is the babyface Lance. Valentine continues to not be impressive in the least, and Steel wins with the Boston Crab. *1/2 Match #2: Equinox vs. El Hijo Del Ice Cream [1st Round] This weekend marks the debut of Los Ice Creams, my all time favorite CHIKARA comedy gimmick. Because it's Quack or Hallowicked under the mask, he moves around really well and carries Equinox. He has an awesome rudotastic control seg, and then Equinox has a good comeback and wins with the Standing SSP. **1/2 Match #3: Player Uno vs. Dan Paysan [1st Round] Both men are Canadian and from IWS, so they work well together. Paysan is working a horrible fake Italian gimmick with a pathetic accent. They both take some awesome bumps though, so good for them. Dan wins with something named the Wop Drop which is his MOSS COVERED THREE HANDLED FAMILY CREDENZA! **3/4 Match #4: Arik Cannon vs. Danny Havoc [1st Round] Cannon is pretty clearly the best guy in this. Havoc is willing to take some crazy bumps and a beating, so this was a good little match before Cannon won with the Glimmering Warlock. **1/4 Match #5: Lance Steel vs. Dragon Dragon [1st Round] This one is the heelish one. Wasn't much, but Dragon Dragon is always just so much goddamned fun. They do a ton of stuff that should not be possible with the DD costume, and then Lance beats him with the Boston Crab. **1/4 Match #6: Brandon Thomaselli vs. Max Boyer [1st Round] Both men are kind of bland and have cool offense. Thomaselli uses "Cult of Personality" as entrance theme, which for any indy wrestler using it after The Summer of Punk, is really unoriginal. Boyer is obviously influenced by Benoit and Dynamite. Not as good as Benoit, OBVIOUSLY, but he's still young and improving. Solid stuff here. They have a neat spot with both men's shoulders down on a backslide, but Boyer gets his arm up at 3 , so he wins. **1/2 Match #7: Jigsaw/Shane Storm vs. The Iron Saints Both teams have 0 points. This was what it was, I guess. The Saints are absolutely horrible, despite the babyfaces being solid. Mostly Jigsaw, to be honest. Still wasn't enough to carry the fucking Thomasellis. FIST comes out to distract the faces and the Saints win with a ridiculous Pendulum Double Stomp thing. ** Match #8: Team F.I.S.T. [2] vs. The Colony Good stuff. Not quite great, since the crowd sucks and the Colony are still inexperienced, but they had some good stuff. FIST kept refusing to go for pins when they had it won. Jigsaw and Shane Storm came out for a distraction, and Fire rolled up Icarus for the upset, and they stop FIST from getting a title shot! **1/2 Icarus Pedigrees Fire Ant, and then they attack the ref before leaving. Match #9: Arik Cannon vs. Lance Steel vs. Lance Steel vs. Equinox vs. Max Boyer vs. Dan Paysan [Semi-Finals - Elimination Match] Some nice matwork from everyone early on. Lance refuses to wrestle himself. Equinox eliminates Paysan first with the Standing SSP. Boyer then eliminates him with a schoolboy with the tights. It becomes sort of a tag match here, and it is quality work. The Lances start fighting, and Boyer then rolls up one of them to win. The second puts him in the Boston Crab to eliminate him! Good finishing run between Cannon and whichever Lance Steel is left. Cannon then wins with the Glimmering Warlock. **3/4 |

CHIKARA Campeones Des Parejas: The Kings of Wrestling, Since 2/26/2006 CHIKARA Young Lions Cup Champion: Vacant ![]() CHIKARA Young Lions IV Night Two June 24th, 2006 Hellertown, PA All the people in the tournament come out for the photo. Match #1: Cheech vs. Fire Ant [1st Round] Fire Ant again shows a ton of potential. A little tentative at points, but he's mostly good here. He's crisp and has a great dive. Cheech has some great stuff when he controls and they have some neat spots. Cheech wins with The Deluxe, which is a Canadian Backbreaker twisted down into the GTS. **3/4 Match #2: Jon Moxley vs. Hydra [1st Round] Hydra is one of the all time great CHIKARA comedy characters. Good Hydra faux-strongman comedy and Mox wins with a Brainbuster. ** Match #3: Chuck Taylor vs. Ricochet [1st Round] FUCK YEAH CHUCKIE T IS HERE! IT MEANS I GET TO HEAR "HEY SANDY" AGAIN! FUCK YEAH! Lots of fun spots and they have a ton of chemistry together. Taylor's offense all looks great and Ricochet takes some awesome bumps. He was a little sloppy on offense, but Chuck was great enough to carry him through. Chuck uses the insane Omega Driver for the win. **3/4 Match #4: Excalibur vs. Andy Sumner [1st Round] SHIT YEAH EXCALIBUR! I'm not excited about him wrestling, since he's pretty average, but it means there might be Excalibur commentary tonight or on the next night's show! They do some stuff and Andy Sumner gets an upset with a roll up. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ** Match #5: Retail Dragon vs. Ice Cream Jr. [1st Round] The second half of Los Ice Creams delivers here. The sprinkles get brought out AND RETAIL GETS POWERBOMBED ON THE SPRINKLES BAH GAWD! That gives Ice Cream the win. *3/4 Match #6: Cloudy vs. Matt Turner [1st Round] Cloudy was a lot of fun here. Carried Turner through a lot of good sequences and bumped huge. Cloudy wins with the Yoshi Tonic. **1/2 Match #7: Player Uno/Dragon Dragon/Equinox vs. Max Boyer/Dan Paysan/Darkness Crabtree Fun bullshit comedy stuff with the DD and Crabtree guys and then the others did some near stuff. Boyer was pretty impressive, but this went a little too long and it got sloppy by the end on the end of Paysan and Equinox. Dragon Dragon makes Crabtree tap to the Dragon Sleeper. ** Match #8: Team F.I.S.T. vs. Jigsaw/Shane Storm Jig and Icarus go right at each other, and the focus is on them. Some sloppiness from Storm and Icarus holds this back from being really great, but it was still a lot of fun. Akuma and Jigsaw were both great and crisp here. Icarus hits Jig with the Pedigree and he has it won, but he refuses to cover and starts tearing at the mask and punching him, so the ref calls for a DQ. **3/4 FIST then also attacks the referee. Eddie Kingston comes out, and he grabs the mic for an interview. He puts over the show so far and says in the business, you don't have a lot of friends, and that's the nature of the beast, and he's okay with that. He says he doesn't trust many people, but he always traveled with Larry Sweeney, and in May, he jumped him and last night in Canada, he tried to blind him, and says he's going to beat the hell out of Larry Sweeney tomorrow night to teach him a lesson. Not as good as King usually does. Match #9: Cheech vs. Cloudy vs. Chuck Taylor vs. Jon Moxley vs. Ice Cream Jr. vs. Andy Sumner [Semi-Finals - Elimination Match] Pretty much everyone in this delivers, so it's actually really good. Fun lucha stuff with Up in Smoke and Ice Cream, Taylor flies around, Mox is a classic old style wrestler, and Sumner does throws and amateur stuff, so there's a lot of different stuff going on. He makes Chuckie T tap out to a Front Guillotine. Up in Smoke eliminates Moxley with what I usually call the AS/CS Rush, but this is like 6 months before MCMG even become a real team, so I guess Up in Smoke brought it to the US first. Ice Cream then rolls up Sumner using the ropes. Up In Smoke goes awesome teamwork and they eliminate Ice Cream Jr. with Partly Cloudy with a Chance of Cheech. Cheech vs. Cloudy is next and it is wonderful. Really crisp and inventive counters as you'd expect from tag partners. Cheech wins with The Deluxe. *** |

CHIKARA Campeones Des Parejas: The Kings of Wrestling, Since 2/26/2006 CHIKARA Young Lions Cup Champion: Vacant ![]() CHIKARA Young Lion's Cup IV Night Three June 25th, 2006 Philadelphia, PA Match #1: Los Ice Creams/Crossbones/Rorschach vs. The Colony/Equinox/Angel Del Fuego ICE CREAM! ICE CREAM! Really fun opener. Perfect mix of comedy and good pro wrestling in a lucha style. Ice Creams were especially great. Fire Ant did an INSANE dive after climbing the beam in the New Alhambra Arena, and the sprinkles got taken out! Equinox got a Huracanrana to the spinkles and then hit Ice Cream Jr. with the Standing SSP. **3/4 Match #2: Daizee Haze vs. Mickie Knuckles This was awful. Knuckles is the worst and Haze gets a roll up with the ropes to win. *1/4 Match #3: Max Boyer vs. Dan Paysan Boyer again looked good. Good spotfest and both men had some cool stuff. Boyer wins with a move called the Lifestyle, which is a Here-It-Is Driver lift, and then spun backwards into kind of a Ghanarea. Really unique and painful looking move. **1/2 Match #4: Chuck Taylor/Cloudy vs. Ricochet/Player Uno AWESOME spotfest! Ricochet is much smoother than last night and Chuck is again great. Cloudy is smooth and crisp as always. Crazy dives, crisp Chuck spots, including the CHIKARA debut of Sole Food. Ricochet hits his badass 630 Splash, and then Cloudy hits him with the Yoshi Tonic for the win. *** In the back, Larry Sweeney cuts a promo. He admits that Kingston was a mentor to him when he first started in wrestling, and he always knew Kingston didn't take him seriously with his big gut and his BS indie cred, but he's going to prove tonight that he's just as tough as Eddie Kingston because he's going to put him down. Match #5: Eddie Kingston vs. Larry Sweeney AWESOME slugfest of a brawl for 6-7 minutes. Brutal chops from both men as Sweeney continues the story from his promo of trying to prove he's tough too. He then cheats a lot because he's Larry fucking Sweeney. Awesome stuff. King makes a big comeback, but Sweeney punts him in the groin for a blatant DQ. *** Sweeney chokes him out with his wrist tape and then beats him about the head on the mat with the ICW-ICWA Texarkana TV Title belt, before going up top and hitting the 12 Large Elbow! Match #6: Chris Hero vs. Brandon Thomaselli Waste of Hero, but still a great carryjob. Sweeney rejoins commentary to talk about how great Tacos El Norte is, since the Thomasellis are from the fine state of Illinois. Total Hero showcase with some awesome strikes and matwork and offense. Thomaselli has a fine comeback, but it's more due to Hero bumping and selling really well than him being more than average. Hero wins with a Cravatbreaker and a Standing Moonsault. Fuck it, I enjoyed this enough. *** In the back, Incoherence cut a promo about getting 3 points. I think? Match #7: Incoherence [2] vs. The Iron Saints [1] And the streak of great matches ends. Fucking Iron Saints. This is a lot of nothing and a set up for an angle. UltraMantis Black comes out, making his first ringside appearance since being injured, and forcing Hallowicked to get his new partner in Delirious. HE THEN ATTACKS HALLOWICKED ON THE FLOOR! HYDRA COMES OUT TO HELP! YEAH! Delirious is all alone and the Thomasellis win with a super contrived Pendulum Legdrop, and Incoherence is cut off before 3 points. ** Match #8: Mike Quackenbush/Jigsaw/Shane Storm vs. Claudio Castagnoli/Team F.I.S.T. Fucking awesome six man! Everyone is on here, no sloppiness, inventive sequences, and a hot crowd. Awesome babyface shine early on with lots of stooging from the Kings trio, before they took over. Really outstanding control segs on all three babyfaces before a killer finishing run. Quack and Claudio do some more completely mind blowing stuff and none of the kickouts are ridiculous. Icarus and Jigsaw trade stuff and Icarus rips off Jigsaw's mask for the DQ! **** They get pulled apart, and Icarus challenges Jigsaw to a Mask vs. Hair match next month, and he just tackles him and they have another pullapart. People from the back come out to get involved, but they fight too, AND QUACK GOES AFTER HERO! THE HATE IS STILL ALIVE! FUCK YEAH! Referees and people finally break up all the little fights and on the tron, CHIKARA COMMISSIONER BOB SAGET READS A PIECE OF PAPER AND MAKES JIGSAW VS. ICARUS IN A MASK VS. HAIR MATCH ON JULY 22ND! Match #9: Arik Cannon vs. Cheech w/ Cloudy [YOUNG LION'S CUP IV FINALS] This had potential, but went waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long at some 25 minutes. Some cool spots, but way too long with about half of it being filler and them having no real story besides it being two faces doing moves. Cannon wins with the Burning Hammer. **1/2 |

CHIKARA Campeones Des Parejas: The Kings of Wrestling, Since 2/26/2006 CHIKARA Young Lions Cup Champion: Arik Cannon, Since 6/25/2006 ![]() CHIKARA The Crushing Weight of Mainstream Ignorance July 22nd, 2006 Hellertown Star Lanes Hellertown, PA In the back, Claudio Castagnoli cuts a promo and says he will win tonight because he's 6'5'' and Equinox is not. Match #1: Claudio Castagnoli vs. Equinox Good Claudio carryjob. Some amazing power spots, and he manages to catch Equinox's stuff and makes it all look incredible. Really good power vs. speed stuff. Equinox still isn't great at bumping or anything, so this isn't quite great, but still a hell of a Claudio performance. Claudio kills him with a Running European Uppercut to win. **3/4 In the back, UMB introduces Hydra as his new disciple and says The Dark Breed is dead and he is through with Hallowicked after he chose to seek the glory with Delirious rather than stay true. Match #2: UltraMantis Black/Hydra vs. The Colony [1] This happened. There's a reason these matches go on before the matches with the actual great wrestlers, and it's because after Claudio is Claudio, it's hard for these guys to follow. They try hard and have some nice ideas, but they're really inexperienced and yeah. UMB isn't in nearly enough to save it, and he beats Fire Ant with the Jay Driller, named the Praying Mantis Bomb. *1/2 Match #3: Lance Steel vs. Lance Steel There's a ton of amazing spots based around them basically wrestling themselves. This feud might be one of the more insane CHIKARA things ever, at least in terms of pure comedy and not the more ridiculous Ring of Tyr nonsensery. There is no way to tell who is who, either. Evil Lance wins with a Boston Crab. **1/2 Match #4: Up in Smoke vs. The North Star Express Both teams have 0 points. This seems like it would be good, but they sort of just had a match and didn't really do a ton. NSE wins with the Cruz Control to get a point. **1/2 Awesome Eddie Kingston promo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uPu2IfNzVg Match #5: Larry Sweeney [c] vs. Eddie Kingston [ICW-ICWA Texarkana Television Championship] Playing off of the match from last month, Sweeney attacks the throat of Kingston all match. Points to them for being really inventive there, as you don't see that all the time. Kingston's selling was pretty awesome as usual. He made a great comeback and went after the throat too. Sweeney went to the eyes and tried a Piledriver, but King back dropped him out. He tried a sunset flip, but King sat down on it to win the belt! *** The good Lance Steel comes back out to get on the mic and he challenges that rogue older version of himself to a match next month in which THE LOSER MUST LEAVE THE PRESENT! AMAZING! Match #6: Chris Hero vs. Shane Storm Another remarkable Hero carryjob of a lesser talent. Storm brought it to some extent, but credit to Hero for putting him in a context where he does have to be agile or crisp, as it's a total slugfest. Lots of nasty boots and forearms from Hero. Storm is best at taking a nasty beating. Storm can't trade strikes with Hero, so he uses well placed lucha to hurt Hero. Awesome finishing run with some really close nearfalls. Hero catches Storm running for That Japanese Move with a straight punch to the head and he gets an Oklahoma Roll while he's dazed for the pin. ***1/2 In the back, Quack cuts a promo and says for too long, the Kings of Wrestling have run amok in CHIKARA, and now that he's back full time at 100%, he's going to take them down one by one, and it starts with Akuma tonight, and ends when he FINALLY gets Chris Hero one on one, and while they fancy themselves as hunters, they're now the hunted. Match #7: Mike Quackenbush vs. Gran Akuma This was good, but not quite great. Quack targeting the midsection and back early on as revenge for FIST reinjuring his back was great. Akuma targeted the back, but in a rarity for Quack, who is usually great with these things, he does a horrible job selling it. They are more focused on doing cool shit than keeping to the story, and they do a lot of cool shit. Quack wins with the QD3. **3/4 Match #8: Arik Cannon [c] vs. Jon Moxley [CHIKARA Young Lions Cup] This is rematch from Mox's upset win over Cannon in May, so that makes sense. This probably would be wonderful and amazing in 2009 until now, but Mox is a youngun here. Cannon does alright, but it's just sort of whatever. Goes on a little too long for what Mox is capable of, which I hope is not a trend in Cannon YLC matches between this and the Cannon/Cheech match. Cannon wins with the Glimmering Warlock. **1/4 Match #9: Jigsaw vs. Icarus [MASK VS. HAIR] Shane Storm and Akuma are the respective cornermen. This could have been great, but had some issues. The last match killed the crowd, for once, so that took away. Secondly, they had no real right to go 23 minutes, and them going 10-15 would have been killer. That's a lot of the reason Icarus/Storm from last year was so good, because it was compact and had a hot crowd. It also had a story, and this was just them kind of doing moves for a while. Jigsaw wins with a Super Jig n' Tonic. **3/4 Akuma tries to pull him out to avoid haircutting, but Mr. ZERO runs out to save along with Shane Storm and THE RETURNING JOLLY ROGER! YEAH! Great callback, and they get their revenge on Icarus by cutting his hair. |

CHIKARA Campeones Des Parejas: The Kings of Wrestling, Since 2/26/2006 CHIKARA Young Lions Cup Champion: Arik Cannon, Since 6/25/2006 ![]() CHIKARA Return of the Son of the International Invasion of International Invaders - 1st Stage August 19th, 2006 Hellertown Star Lanes Hellertown, PA Match #1: The North Star Express [1] vs. Los Ice Creams Really fun match. Los Ice Creams are again an amazing comedy heel team, and they make the NSE look decent. NSE are still quite inexperienced and I'm starting to realize what an amazing carryjob Hero and Claudio did with them at Tag World. The sprinkles again backfire on Los Ice Creams, and the NSE win with Cruz Control. **1/4 Match #2: Larry Sweeney vs. Fire Ant EXCALIBUR ON COMMENTARY! YES! Larry Sweeney comes out mocking Kingston, to King's music and with a bandanna on and his gut hanging out. This is much more of an angle than a match, but it is good. Sweeney does Kingston's offense too, so Eddie Kingston comes out. Sweeney bails, and Fire Ant is mad at King for interrupting his match, so Kingston throws him out and that is a DQ, so Fire Ant wins! *1/2 King challenges him to get in, and Sweeney leaves the building. King gets on the mic and says tomorrow night, their match is going to be a fight. Match #3: Dr. Cheung vs. Retail Dragon This was not good at all. Really sloppy and awful. Retail wins with a Frankensteiner that Cheung takes with a falling face down bump. 1/2* Match #4: UltraMantis Black w/ Hydra vs. Tex Benedict Tex is British, which makes no sense. UMB punishes him for this by getting him tied up in a hold and yelling "EUROPEAN FOOTBALL IS INFERIOR TO OUR OWN!" This is generally alright. Tex is fine enough, but not exceptional. Hydra causes a distraction and UMB gets a roll up for the win. **1/2 Match #5: Equinox vs. Jagged w/ Shane Matthews Jagged and Shane Matthews prove that they are magical by making an Equinox match entertaining. Not so much good, because it's really pedestrian, but entertaining due to constant commentary by 2.0. Equinox wins with the Standing SSP. *3/4 Match #6: Lance Steel vs. Lance Steel [LOSER LEAVES THE PRESENT] This was again a lot of fun, especially the commentary by UMB and Sweeney, half focusing on the match and half just being fucking Larry Sweeney and UltraMantis Black. The evil Lance Steel wins with a low blow and the Boston Crab. **1/2 Claudio Castagnoli comes out to the ring and says Milano Collection AT apparently couldn't make it this weekend (after getting a job in New Japan) and says Milano fears him. This is somewhat hilarious, as it sort of invalidates the International Invaders name. He issues an open challenge, AND RECKLESS YOUTH RETURNS TO ACCEPT! AWESOME! Match #7: Claudio Castagnoli vs. Reckless Youth This is wonderful, which is really no surprise. Great Claudio bumping and selling as well. They do some nice stuff and Claudio wins with a fucking gigantic Running European Uppercut. *** EDDIE KINGSTON RUNS BACK IN AND ATTACKS SWEENEY AT COMMENTARY! AWESOME! They brawl in the crowd and to the outside of the building, and they get pulled apart. Match #8: Arik Cannon [c] vs. Excalibur [CHIKARA Young Lions Cup] Good stuff. Better than Cannon/Moxley, for sure. Some good matwork to begin before they started doing stuff. It's just sort of happening, and Cannon wins with a cradle. Sort of out of nowhere finish. **1/4 Match #9: Chris Hero/Team F.I.S.T. vs. Mike Quackenbush/Jigsaw/Shane Storm This was awesome! Another one of those Team Quack vs. Kings matches where all the lesser guys bring it big time and have a great performance. Icarus is SUPER aggressive after losing his hair, and when the Kings have their control segs, that's the focus, and he delivers. Some really brutal offense from the Kings, and they also do a good bit on the Hero/Quack front. Awesome finishing run. A little sloppiness at the end, in terms of guys clearly waiting for moves, but it was minor stuff. Icarus hits Jigsaw with the Pedigree, and Hero tags himself in and hits a Standing Moonsault to win. ***3/4 |

CHIKARA Campeones Des Parejas: The Kings of Wrestling, Since 2/26/2006 CHIKARA Young Lions Cup Champion: Arik Cannon, Since 6/25/2006 ![]() CHIKARA Return of the Son of the International Invasion of International Invaders - 2nd Stage August 20th, 2006 The Barnesville Thunderdome Barnesville, PA In the back, Chris Hero finds Team F.I.S.T. upset and gives them a speech about how they lost their hair and mask, respectively, but they will get up and move forward even better and more vicious than ever, and they get hyped up. This would be more effective on the night before, as they had a pretty big win right before this, so why would they be sulking? Hero tells them not to let Incoherence get a point tonight and tells them to make a statement. Match #1: Los Ice Creams/Jagged w/ Shane Matthews vs. The Colony/Ben Sailor Ben Sailor is a nobody, but Los Ice Creams and Jagged make a ridiculously entertaining heel trio. The Colony again show flashes of good stuff without being all the way there yet. Sailor sucks and is painfully inexperienced. Los Ice Creams beat Soldier Ant with a crazy double team where one of them Monkey Flips the ant, and as he's in the air, the other hits him in the back with a Flying Asshole, resulting in a nasty landing on his neck. ** Match #2: Daizee Haze vs. Portia Perez Haze is again fun as a heel in CHIKARA. They do some stuff for a while, and Perez is not much. Haze blocks a sunset flip by grabbing the ropes, and that gets the win. *1/2 Match #3: The North Star Express [2] vs. UltraMantis Black/Hydra [1] The loser goes back to 0 points, but if NSE wins, they can challenge for the belts. Some of the Hydra faux-strength comedy spots were awesome. NSE looked a lot better here than they did on the previous night. UMB once again looks pretty good, and NSE get the win and their 3rd point with the Cruz Control on Hydra. **1/2 They then point to Hero at the commentary table and they signal for the belts. Corbin gets on the mic and announces that they're using their title shot on the next show on September 22nd! Match #4: Arik Cannon [c] vs. Equinox [CHIKARA Young Lions Cup] This sort of happened. It's good at some points, and then Equinox's sloppiness ruins it at other points. He gets legit knocked out at one point, and in what comes off as a huge dick move, Cannon waits a little, and then does some headdrops on a guy who's probably concussed and wins with a Brainbuster. Probably not a coincidence that Cannon came to the end of his career as a full time CHIKARA roster member within a few months. **1/4 In the back, Larry Sweeney cuts a promo. He says Eddie Kingston stole his most prized possession and he realizes now that he and King were as different as people always said. He says while Kingston was robbing five and dimes and spray painting subways cars, he was going to college. He says they are cut from a different cloth and people cut from his cloth succeed in life and people like King wind up in jail or dead. He says Kingston does not deserve his belt and he will be champion by the end of the night. Match #5: Eddie Kingston [c] vs. Larry Sweeney [ICW-ICWA Texarkana Television Championship] Another awesome match between them, but this is more of an angle than a complete match. They brawl and Sweeney throws King's arm into the post. He works the arm and Kingston's selling is awesome again. He comes back and they have a brief and awesome comeback. Sweeney hits a Suplex on the floor, and then grabs the belt and asks UltraMantis Black for his keys, and he gives them to Sweeney, who then walks out the back door and is counted out. **3/4 Kingston gets up and goes to the parking lot to find him, AND SWEENEY IS WAITING IN A CAR, AND HE FUCKING RUNS OVER EDDIE KINGSTON HOLY SHIT! Sweeney drives off in UMB's car, and Kingston is holding his knee on the ground. Credit to him for really jumping into it and making it look amazing. Referees and other people come out to tend to Kingston, and someone calls for an ambulance. Match #6: Team F.I.S.T. vs. Incoherence Neither team has any points here. Good, but not quite great. FIST looks continually improved, but they still need a little more focus on a regular basis to be a really great team. This had more Delirious than Hallowicked, so it wasn't great on that front either. Hallowicked has a good hot tag, but then Delirious gets back in. Icarus beats Delirious with the Pedigree, and FIST gets a point. **3/4 Match #7: The Kings of Wrestling vs. Mike Quackenbush/Shane Storm Awesome match! Hero avoids fighting Quack to start, resulting in amazing Hero/Storm and Quack/Claudio matwork runs in the first half. The Kings isolate Storm and it is really amazing. I'm not a huge Storm fan at all,but Hero was such a huge piece of shit to him that I popped when he fought back and got the tag. Finishing run had a bit of downtime in the middle, but Quack's hot tag and the actual final minutes were fantastic. Storm moves and Claudio accidentally hits Hero with the Rolling European Uppercut! Quack tackles Claudio and Storm gets a cradle on Hero for the upset. **** |

CHIKARA Campeones Des Parejas: The Kings of Wrestling, Since 2/26/2006 CHIKARA Young Lions Cup Champion: Arik Cannon, Since 6/25/2006 ![]() CHIKARA Once in a Lifetime September 22nd, 2006 Reading, PA Match #1: The Colony/Equinox vs. Los Ice Creams/Hydra Glorious comedy opener between Los Ice Creams and Hydra and Soldier Ant's unbreakable salute. The Colony continue to improve. Equinox is also sort of there as well, I guess. He sort of just stayed out of the way and let Hydra do comedy and let The Colony vs. LIC be a lot of fun. Los Ice Creams hit Soldier Ant with the Hop Toss Flying Asshole, and then they press slam Hydra down onto him for the cover and win. **1/2 Match #2: Arik Cannon [c] vs. Lance Steel [CHIKARA Young Lions Cup] Lance Steel is now in black to show that he is EVIL. Fun match. Lots of awesome Cannon right hands and offense. Lance was sort of just there, and the finish was way too abrupt. He was arguing with the referee over something, and Cannon just got a roll up to win. **1/2 Match #3: Jigsaw/Shane Storm vs. Crossbones/Rorschach Neither team has any points. This is pretty clearly a showcase for ShaneSaw, but it is good enough. Some nice matwork with Rorsch and Jigsaw. Good control seg by the heels, awesome Jigsaw hot tag, etc. Just a nice formula tag match. Jigsaw wins with the Jig n' Tonic on Rorshach. **3/4 Match #4: Gran Akuma vs. Reckless Youth This was what it was. Sort of just a generic mat wrestling match and it was whatever until a nice finishing run. Akuma wins with the Falcon Arrow, and in the words of Excalibur, HE'S DONE THE DEAL. **3/4 In a pretape, UltraMantis Black cuts a promo about his match with Hallowicked. Hydra is doing bench presses in the background with a broom ahahahahahha. He then says Hallowicked will meet his DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM~ Match #5: Hallowicked vs. UltraMantis Black w/ Hydra Good shit. Really heated stuff, and yeah. Hydra interferes a lot, and both men take some huuuuuuge bumps. Really fucking great finishing run. Hallowicked pulls Hydra into the ring to eat the Yakuza Kick instead of him, and it allows him to get a schoolboy AND HOLY SHIT, ULTRAMANTIS BLACK GETS THE WIN! YEAH! *** For the next match, it is supposed to be Kingston and Mickie Knuckles vs. Sweeney and Daizee Haze. Knuckles got injured or something last week, and Kingston gets on the mic and says he doesn't need a partner and he just wants Sweeney. Match #6: Eddie Kingston vs. Larry Sweeney/Daizee Haze Sweeney and King have their usual awesome brawl, and Haze is awesome taking cheap shots and begging off. Sweeney and King really started fucking teeing off on each other. HAze fakes an injury to distract Eddie Kingston, and then Sweeney gets a schoolboy with the pants for the win. **3/4 AND HAZE JUMPS RIGHT BACK UP AND SHE AND SWEENEY BAIL! AWESOME! Match #7: Mike Quackenbush vs. Icarus Nice match. Same idea as the Akuma/Quack match from July, but with better matwork and back selling from Quack. He has this very Bret Hart-ish way of selling a back injury. He'll hold it yeah, but the best selling is his body language type selling. Icarus is fun here as a chickenshit heel, but also manages to not get smoked on the mat and comes out looking great. Quack wins with the QD3. *** Match #8: The Kings of Wrestling [c] vs. The North Star Express [CHIKARA Campeonatos Des Parejas] Best of three falls as always. The Kings now also have the ROH Tag Titles. Sweeney and Chikarason do a great job on commentary establishing that the Kings had miscommunication problems on the last show and that NSE are on a roll. Great matwork early on, carried by the Kings. They isolated the arm of Corbin with a ton of really nasty looking holds. His selling was good too. Cruz gets a great hot tag and they clean house, AND THEY PIN HERO WITH THE CRUZ CONTROL TO GO UP 1-0! FUCK YEAH! The fact that Hero and Claudio dominated them for like 15-20 minutes on the mat before a one minute flurry does a great job of getting over the underdog factor. Hero and Claudio argue and the NSE get another flurry, BUT HERO SNAPS AND DROPS CORBIN ARM-FIRST ON THE BAR! HERO THROWS CORBIN OUT THE BACK DOOR AND PUTS A CHAIR IN FRONT OF THE DOOR! They then have a killer control seg on Cruz. Hero and Claudio finish him off to go 1-1, with the KRS-TWO! Awesome move that can only be done on smaller guys: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWeHFt3cP7M They keep the amazing control seg, AND CORBIN FINALLY GETS BACK IN FROM THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BUILDING! FUCK YEAH! He's still selling the arm, which is wonderful. They shut him down with the KRS-ONE for the win and the Kings retain. **** |

CHIKARA Campeones Des Parejas: The Kings of Wrestling, Since 2/26/2006 CHIKARA Young Lions Cup Champion: Arik Cannon, Since 6/25/2006 ![]() CHIKARA Cibernetico Forever October 28th, 2006 The New Alhambra Arena Philadelphia, PA Match #1: Reckless Youth vs. Rorschach This sort of just happens. Fun match, but there's not a ton there. Just some nice action and Reckless wins with the Kondo Clutch. **3/4 Match #2: UltraMantis Black/Crossbones/Hydra vs. The Colony/Equinox THE ORDER OF THE NEO SOLAR TEMPLE IS FULLY FORMED! Equinox was awful, but everyone else was fun. Fire Ant does the insane dive off the beam in the middle of the building. Crossbones hits Soldier Ant with the Freaking Sweet Driver, and he lets Mantis get the cover for the win. **1/2 They beat on The Colony, BUT ANOTHER ANT RUNS OUT TO SAVE! FUCK YEAH IT'S WORKER ANT! YES! In the back, Excalibur cuts a promo. He says he if he loses tonight to Player Uno, he will start buying up CHIKARA stock to steal the company from Chikarason, and then he will never book Player Uno again and will steal all of his moves and only book himself in the main events, and he will bring in Mitch Ryder too. Match #3: Excalibur vs. Player Uno Fun match. Excalibur will never have a truly great singles match, as he's just not that good in the ring, but they had some entertaining comedy. Uno also takes some huge bumps and Excalibur wins with the Jay Driller, and thus CHIKARA is safe. **1/2 Match #4: Shayne Hawke vs. Twiggy Both men are from Canada. Twiggy is the Canadian version of Nate Webb. Not a great wrestler, but entertaining and his theme song is "Living on a Prayer", so like Webb, he is booked mostly so everyone can have fun with his theme song and what not. Also, being Canadian, he is inferior to Nate Webb. Hawke is an amazing staller and they have a fun little match. Twiggy wins with a roll up. **1/4 Match #5: Arik Cannon [c] vs. Max Boyer [CHIKARA Young Lions Cup] This generally happens, in the theme of the show, which is bound to happen when all the best wrestlers are in the main event. The highlight of this is UMB and Excalibur sharing the commentary booth in perhaps an all time indy dream commentary team. They do some things, and Boyer gets a huge upset win with The Lifestyle to win the Cup. **1/2 Cannon throws a fit post-match and lays out some referees before storming off. The end has come for Cannon as a full-time guy, but he was clearly floundering over the last few months. Match #6: Mike Quackenbush/Eddie Kingston/Hallowicked/Jigsaw/Shane Storm/Up in Smoke/The North Star Express vs. The Kings of Wrestling/Larry Sweeney/Team FIST/Brandon Thomaselli/The Iron Saints [TORNEO CIBERNETICO] Not 104 minutes, but still about 70+. Not as strong as the lineup from last year, but people do a good enough job covering for the Thomasellis. Most importantly, and for whatever reason, Sweeney is wearing a TACOS EL NORTE t-shirt, repping the best Chicagoland Mexican chain restaurant in existence. The Kings also now have the ROH, CZW, AND CHIKARA belts. A fucking dynasty. As usual, the first 20-30 minutes is some great feeling out type stuff. Sweeney and King keep almost fighting on the floor and Sweeney refuses to get in when King is in. Hero vs. Quack and Claudio vs. Quack also gets a lot of play. Cloudy is also SUPER impressive against Hero and Claudio. The FIST/Up in Smoke pairings are also a great preview of their amazing actual tag matches. As Sweeney and Kingston get broken up on the floor, Icarus eliminates Corbin first with the Pedigree. Hallowicked then finally eliminates Brandon with the Graveyard Smash. Hero vs. Hallowicked is fantastic. Shane and Akuma have a nice run, and in an upset, Storm eliminates Akuma with a roll up, and the winner of last year's match is out! SWEENEY WITH A LOW BLOW ON STORM AND A PILEDRIVER TO ELIMINATE HIM! YEAH! CLOUDY GETS ANOTHER FUCKING THOMASELLI OUT WITH A VICTORY ROLL! YEAH! Hero vs. Cloudy is marvelous, but ends soon when Hero gets the Hero's Welcome: Championship Edition on Cloudy to eliminate him. Kingston is in next and takes out both Kings and brings Sweeney in! BUT SWEENEY GETS A LOW BLOW FOR A BLATANT DQ AND HE LEAVES! Sweeney is eliminated, but more importantly, he avoids Kingston again. We're now down to Quack/King/Hallowicked/Cloudy/Cruz vs. Hero/Claudio/Icarus/Sal Thomaselli. Sal eliminates Cruz with some awful move, and then he's out after a Hallowicked Moonsault and finally, we are down to all good to great wrestlers. Hero makes Cheech tap to the Hangman's Clutch to put it at 3 vs. 3. Hero vs. Quack is next, and Hero tries to hit Quack with the Quackendriver, BUT HE REVERSES INTO THE HANGMAN'S CLUTCH! HERO TAPS OUT TO HIS OWN FINISHING MOVE! FUCK YEAH! Quack and Claudio don't get enough time to really go, and Claudio eliminates Quack with a Moonsault Fallaway Slam off the top. King rolls up Claudio, who then attacks him. Icarus rolls up Hallowicked and we get a nice Icarus/Kingston final. Icarus wins with a Super Shiranui. This was really great and had a lot of great stuff going on, but it really felt rushed in the last half. They could have easily gone another 20-30 minutes with the lineup they had like in 2005, and now the guys they were using had even more experience. Oh well. ***3/4 |

CHIKARA Campeones Des Parejas: The Kings of Wrestling, Since 2/26/2006 CHIKARA Young Lions Cup Champion: Max Boyer, Since 10/28/2006 ![]() CHIKARA From Zero To Hero (& Castagnoli) November 12th, 2006 Barnesville, PA This is the show of a one night tag team #1 Contender's tournament, with the winners getting a title shot on 11/17, having earned 3 points by winning the tournament. This is also probably CHIKARA cheating to try and rob the Kings of winning TTOTY. Match #1: Up in Smoke vs. The Olsen Twins [Quarterfinals] The Olsen Twins debut! These teams work super well together. Lots of really quick and beautiful lucha and other assorted fast stuff. Great comedy too, Olsen Twins have some really great spots and their control seg is awesome. Cloudy has a spectacular hot tag and they have a killer finishing run, while also not blowing any of their big finishers. Cloudy puts down Jimmy Olsen with the Yoshi Tonic. *** Match #2: Incoherence vs. The Colony [Quarterfinals] The Colony again looks improved and they took some fantastic bumps, but this wasn't great or anything, due to a totally dead crowd. Possibly because Incoherence winning was really obvious, but whatever. Hallowicked beats Soldier Ant with the Graveyard Smash. **1/2 Match #3: Team F.I.S.T. vs. The Silver Bullets [Quarterfinals] The Bullets are horrible. They are fat guys working superhero gimmicks with conehead shaped silver masks that don't stand up straight. CHIKARA is pretty fucking indy, but god damn, these dudes come off as ridiculous and asinine, even for a promotion with wrestling ants and an evil insect. Akuma beats the less fat one with the 450 Splash to finally end it. *3/4 In the back, the Irish Airborne say they have no idea who Sabian and Joker are (really? You were in a promotion that feuded with their promotion for 7 months), but they will take this place by storm. Match #4: Joker/Sabian vs. Irish Airborne [Quarterfinals] I'm glad CHIKARA finally booked BLK-OUT guys again, they have a lot to offer, even if they're not the best. They delivered here, and the Irish Airborne were pretty much average, as usual. Chris Hero joins commentary now to scout some potential challengers, and interestingly says Team FIST is probably the second best team in CHIKARA, but there's a big gap between #1 and #2. Lots of crisp and fast stuff, it's just that there wasn't a ton going on in terms of story or anything. The Airborne pulls off an unfortunate upset with the Irish Air Raid on Joker. **3/4 In the back, the Order of the Neo-Solar Temple cuts a promo. Crossbones asks why they're in a Neo-Nazi temple, but UMB corrects him. He then lookcs for Hydra, who is under a box and trapped in a ball of paper shreddings. UMB yells "HYDRAAAAAAA!" and look to the heavens. Match #5: UltraMantis Black/Crossbones/Hydra vs. Equinox/Retail Dragon/Trik Davis UGH TRIK DAVIS. He's probably the best guy on his team, but still. Speaking of Trik Davis, it's weird that he got great at the end of 2008, and then just disappeared forever. Lots of amazing Hydra comedy going on here and yeah, this was a fun ONST showcase. UMB beats Retail with the Praying Mantis Bomb. **1/4 Match #6: Team F.I.S.T. vs. Incoherence [Semi-Finals] Good stuff, and better than their match in August, slightly. Some nice matwork to begin, good FIST control seg, etc. They seem to finally be looking like a great team all the time now, so that's what I expected going into 2007. Delirious had a good hot tag, and they do stuff. Icarus beats Delirious with the Pedigree. **3/4 Match #7: Up in Smoke vs. Irish Airborne [Semi-Finals] This was quite enjoyable. Up in Smoke is once again fantastic. Irish are now heels, since everyone loves Cheech and Cloudy. Cloudy takes some killer bumps as always and he and Cheech pull off some super impressive arm drags and what not. Cloudy is a fine face in peril, and Cheech gets the big hot tag, etc. Cheech hits one of them with The Deluxe for the win. *** It is now Up in Smoke vs. FIST in the finals. Match #8: Kazuchika Okada vs. Osiris Okada is the current IWGP Heavyweight Champion for NJPW, so that goes to show how much someone can improve, I guess, since he is not much here. Osiris is actively bad and they have kind of a sloppy middling match for some time. Okada wins with a German Suplex. *3/4 In the back, the Kings and Larry Sweeney cut a promo. Hero talks about all the gold they have right now, and Sweeney says Kingston is like a beaten dog who doesn't know when to stop coming back for more, but they'll kick his but again, and he's got one ticket to Larrydise for him, and he'll never come back again! Match #9: The Kings of Wrestling/Larry Sweeney vs. Mike Quackenbush/Shane Storm/Eddie Kingston Well, this was great. That should not be a surprise. Awesome lucha early on, AND EVEN EDDIE KINGSTON DOES LUCHA! Sweeney tries to avoid Kingston, and Hero does the same to Quack. The Kings have their usual amazing isolation segments on multiple guys, and Hero is such a piece of shit. Kingston is an awesome face in peril. Lots of great offense from all three rudos. Finishing run went a little too long, but picked up big at the end. Quack beats Claudio with the La Mistica into the Skayde Special roll up. ***1/4 Match #10: Team F.I.S.T. vs. Up in Smoke [Finals] This is pretty good, and a great prototype for the match they would have in 2007. Once again, Cloudy rules as a face in peril. FIST is quite punishing to him and really brutal and violent in their offense. Shitty crowd again really hurts this match, as they react to almost nothing except for the beginning and end. Akuma DESTROYS Cloudy with the Kurt Angle 450 Splash Knee Drop for the win. **3/4 KINGS OF WRESTLING VS. FIST ON THE NEXT SHOW! BAH GAWD! |

CHIKARA Campeones Des Parejas: The Kings of Wrestling, Since 2/26/2006 CHIKARA Young Lions Cup Champion: Max Boyer, Since 10/28/2006 ![]() CHIKARA Brick November 17th, 2006 Reading, PA They show begins with the Hydra Lock Challenge with Hydra and UltraMantis Black. UMB challenges one of the plebians to accept, and nobody accepts, so UMB makes a comely young lass in the audience accept. Hydra puts on the Hydra Lock, and she is clearly in no pain and UMB says they're on the clock. He then tickles her, eliciting a shriek, so UMB says that was a submission and the Hydra Lock remains unbroken. Match #1: The Colony vs. Los Ice Creams/Lance Steel The Colony now has Worker Ant to make them a full trio. Worker Ant has a fanny pack and has to shake everyone's hand. Ha. Worker is still really inexperienced obviously, but Fire and Soldier continue to come along well, and Los Ice Creams are again a ton of fun. The Colony wins with a crazy T-Gimmick/Crossbody triple team. **3/4 Match #2: Trik Davis vs. Kenji Fukimoto Gross. Why is this even happening? They did some stuff and Fukimoto won with a Powerbomb. *1/2 In the back, Larry Sweeney cuts a promo. He says he saw a bum on the side of the road wearing an Eddie Kingston t-shirt and he talked to him, and he said they were giving them away for free at a halfway house, because it's Thanksgiving week. SO HE STOMPED HIM IN THE FACE AND TOOK IT FROM HIM! He says this weekend, he's finally going to put Eddie Kingston down. In the back, Chuck Taylor cuts a promo. He says last time in CHIKARA, he was shaking hands and kissing babies and doing flips, but tonight, he's gonna be slapping babies and punching grandmas and he'll punch Eddie Kingston in the mouth tonight, like he's going to do do every single one of these retarded children out around the ring. Match #3: Larry Sweeney [c] vs. Equinox [ICW-ICWA Texarkana Television Championship] Great Sweeney performance again. Equinox was all fiery and shit, and good for him for finally not looking awful. Sweeney wins with the Piledriver. **1/2 Sweeney gets on the mic post-match, and says he has learned that tomorrow night, he and Kingston will have a special stipulation. He says Kingston is a yellow bellied coward, and he isn't, so their match tomorrow night will be a Yellow Belly Strap Match! Eddie Kingston then comes out and Sweeney bails and calls him a hot-blooded Latino and tells him to wait another night, and Sweeney leaves out the back door. Match #4: Eddie Kingston vs. Chuck Taylor More of an angle than a match, since they never got a real finishing run, but it was still a lot of fun. Chuck tries to fight some kids and has nice basic heel offense. Sweeney comes back out for a distraction when Kingston makes a brief comeback, AND TAYLOR ROLLS HIM UP FOR THE UPSET WIN! YEAH! **3/4 In the back, 2.0 cuts a promo. Jagged says he's sucked when it comes to CHIKARA matches, but there's no way he will lose to Twiggy. THEY'VE KIBOSHED BEFORE AND THEY WILL KIBOSH AGAIN. BOOYA! Match #5: Twiggy vs. Jagged w/ Shane Matthews They do some stuff and it's generally entertaining. Jagged wins with Shane's help on a Rude/Warrior pin. ** Match #6: Max Boyer vs. Player Uno They sort of just have a match here, so whatever. They do things and some of it looks good. Chris Hero comes out to watch, causing Boyer to get more aggressive, and then he wins with the Lifestyle. **1/4 Match #7: Incoherence vs. UltraMantis Black/Hydra Neither team has any points. They have quite the fun match with UMB avoiding Hallowicked and much chicanery. Really fun finishing run, and yeah. Hallowicked finally gets Mantis and takes him out, and Delirious hits Hydra with the Here-It-Is Driver for the win. **3/4 Match #8: Mike Quackenbush/Cloudy/Ricochet vs. Shane Storm/Cheech/Retail Dragon [PAREJAS INCREDIBLAS] FUCK YEAH PAREJAS INCREDIBLAS! Really fun face/face match. Really crisp lucha and what not early on, and then both teams had control segments. Nice spot to get over that it's partners vs. partners when a disoriented Cloudy tags in Cheech, but he's on the other team, and he attacks him. Some moves are done, and Ricochet hits Retail with a Handspring Standing Phoenix Splash for the win. *** In the back, Team FIST cuts a promo. They talk about winning the 2005 and 2006 Ciberneticos and Icarus says the next logical step is getting the CHIKARA tag titles tonight. Hero and Claudio then come over and stop them and Hero says he was with them until the end there. He says they have come a long way and he won't take all the credit, because they've worked hard, but says not to get carried away. He says they're all in the Kings of Wrestling, but they were Kings long before they were. Icarus and Akuma look at each other and smile and Hero gets mad. He says that they owe SO much to him, to them, and they'll show them why the Kings are the #1 team, and they're the #2 team. Match #9: The Kings of Wrestling [c] vs. Team F.I.S.T. [CHIKARA Campeonatos Des Parejas] Heel vs. heel matches usually don't work this well, but god damn, this is a masterpiece of storytelling. The Kings constantly overpower FIST and are dicks on the mat. Hero keeps trying to intimidate his students, but they get aggressive back with him, and he's caught off guard. The Kings have to regroup and realize what they're dealing with, and they slow it down on the mat. But FIST is able to take over by being a better unit, since they can't hang one on one with Hero or Claudio. Hero fights dirty to take over, leading to a great Kings control seg. They get too cocky, and FIST gets a flurry of their finishers on Hero and Icarus puts on the Burning Wings of Icarus and Hero taps! Hero is hurt, and Claudio is all alone. Once Hero gets back in, he now tries a pin whenever one of the opponents is down, as opposed to not trying for them much in the first fall. Further showing how shaken he is by the first fall, they put down Icarus with the KRS-ONE to go 1-1. It works of course, but the point is that they have always used that to win the third fall, it's their huge finish that kills everyone, and Hero got so thrown off that he had to use it just to stop FIST from going two straight. Icarus is now down and they work on Akuma, BUT HERO ACCIDENTALLY HITS CLAUDIO WITH THE ROLLING ELBOW! Akuma takes him out and hits Claudio with a visually stunning cascading Yoshi Tonic AND FIST WINS THE BELTS! UPSET! I really love how FIST not letting Hero go through with his usual game plan completely threw Hero off, and basically cost them the belts. ***3/4 Hero gets on the mic post-match as Claudio gets up and FIST gets the belts. He says he should be proud of his proteges for winning the big one, and he's proud that it took him pushing their backs against the wall to do it. He says it took this match to show him what was wrong with their group. Claudio gets up and Hero says they proved this year that they were the best tag team in wrestling, and everyone knows Claudio is leaving soon. He says he brought him to America and to CHIKARA, AND NOW HE HAS TO TAKE HIM OUT AND HE HITS HIM WITH THE MIC! FIST JOINS IN AND THEY ALL BEAT DOWN CLAUDIO! They keep it on, BUT QUACK, SHANE STORM, AND JIGSAW COME OUT TO SAVE! Quack puts Claudio over on the mic and everyone gives him a standing ovation on his way out of CHIKARA. Except it was not to be and he will be back in 2007. |

CHIKARA Campeones Des Parejas: Team F.I.S.T., Since 11/18/2006 CHIKARA Young Lions Cup Champion: Max Boyer, Since 10/28/2006 ![]() CHIKARA Talent Borrows, Genius Steals November 18th, 2006 Hellertown Star Lanes Hellertown, PA Match #1: Los Ice Creams/Kenji Fukimoto vs. Twiggy/Equinox/Retail Dragon Los Ice Creams pretty much carried this, but that's alright, because if you don't like Los Ice Creams, fuck you. I can't be any clearer about that. Equinox looked pretty good as well, but that could just be LIC carrying him as usual. They do some stuff, and Kenji beats Twiggy with a Brainbuster. **1/2 Match #2: Chuck Taylor vs. Ricochet They have their usual great match against each other. FIST comes out to the stage to watch. Chuckie T stalls and what not early on and it is really great. Then he takes over and has some great offense. Ricochet takes huge bumps too, to his credit. Chuck Taylor wins with the Omega Driver, and FIST applauds. *** Match #3: Player Uno vs. Jagged w/ Shane Matthews This was fun. Good average wrestling and then Jagged and Matthews brought the comedy as well. Player Uno hits some manner of an Electric Chair into a Backbreaker deal. I know he has a cool name for it, I just don't exactly remember what it is. **1/2 Match #4: The Colony vs. Shane Hagadorn/Rhett Titus/Pelle Primeau This is pre-SEXIEST SUPLEX era Rhett, so he is worthless. Pelle is beginning to become awesome around this time. The Colony generally looks very good, and then the ROH kids cheat a lot. Fire Ant debuts his awesome Flipping Senton dive, and he gets the win after throwing Pelle off the top and onto Rhett with a forced Swanton Bomb. **3/4 Match #5: Max Boyer [c] vs. Josh Daniels [CHIKARA Young Lions Cup] This was a match. There was basically a charisma black hole here, and Boyer won with the Lifestyle. ** Match #6: Trik Davis vs. Lance Steel Once again, sort of just a match. Pretty shitty undercard tonight. Lance wins with the Boston Crab. ** It is supposed to be the Order of the Neo-Solar Temple vs. Incoherence and Up in Smoke, but instead of Up in Smoke, Cheech and Cloudy come out in Incoherence outfits too as INCOHERENCITO! AWESOME!AND EVEN BETTER, THE ORDER'S FOURTH PARTNER IS BLIND RAGE BACK FOR ONE NIGHT! YEAH! Match #7: Incoherence/Incoherencito vs. UltraMantis Black/Hydra/Crossbones/Blind Rage Cheech did an AMAZING job as Deliriouscito, and this was just fucking fantastic. Tons of awesome comedy and fun stuff, and then the finishing run also delivered. Delirious beats Hydra after Invitro-Fertilization. **3/4 Match #8: Team F.I.S.T. vs. Mike Quackenbush/Shane Storm Fun match, but not quite great. Really awesome FIST control seg on Quack. Lots of vicious stuff, especially from Icarus, which was shocking but also pleasing. It kind of falls apart with Storm's hot tag though, and stuff begins to show a ton of daylight. Akuma beats Shane Storm with the Four FiftKNEE Splash. **3/4 Match #9: Eddie Kingston vs. Larry Sweeney [Strap Match] This is good, but also kind of disappointing and the least of their non-angle (see: the car incident match) matches in 2006. It had some great parts, but was overall too focused on the part about touching all four corners and not as focused on big violence, like their other matches. Kingston wins. **3/4 |

More lucha based and matwork based than their two classic style tag matches. Still, a lot of really awesome stuff going on throughout. Big nearfalls at the end from the babyfaces, and yeah. The Kings beat Skayde with the Double Ricola Bomb to win the titles and the tournament.
