CHIKARA King of Trios 2007 Night One
February 16th, 2007
Hellertown, PA

Match #1: Up in Smoke vs. New Jersey All Stars

Solid enough UIS showcase. That team name is a pretty damning statement about New Jersey. NJAS are not good at all and this ended up going far too long before Cheech wins with the Deluxe. Up in Smoke gets 1 point!
**

Match #2: Jigsaw/Shane Storm [2] vs. 2.0

2.0 IS BACK! YEAH! BOOYA! Jig and Storm have 2 points, so this is even more of a foregone conclusion. Amazing 2.0 shenanigans and cheating to make it entertaining before ShaneSaw pulls off the win and gets their third point with That Japanese Move.
**1/2

ShaneSaw now has three points, and can challenge FIST for the belts soonish.

The first KOT tournament match is up now, and yeah. Los Ice Creams do not have a partner, so they bring out this man, who is very very tall, introduced as Very Mysterious Ice Cream. It is very clearly Claudio Castagnoli, as he is wearing business slacks and shouts "HEEEEEEEEEEEEY!"

Posted Image

Match #3: Los Ice Creams/Very Mysterious Ice Cream vs. UltraMantis Black/Crossbones/Hydra [1st Round]
Highly entertaining match. Great Los Ice Creams and Hydra comedy early on, and then the Order takes over. Good control seg. Great mix of Crossbones' power and UMB's straight up cheating. Very Mysterious Ice Cream beats Hydra with a very suspicious looking European Uppercut.
**3/4

Match #4: Larry Sweeney/Mitch Ryder/Robbie Ellis vs. Brandon Thomaselli/The Iron Saints [1st Round]

Ryder is vintage fucking Memphis and awesome. Ellis is this insanely old dude who does high flying stuff and it is hilarious. The Thomsellis are once again awful. Sweeney and co. were working face, and babyface Sweeney is absurdly entertaining. SWEENEY WITH A TOPE SUICIDA! AMAZING! The de facto babyfaces were awesome, but then the Thomasellis won. :(
**1/2

Match #5: Yoshiaki Yago/MIYAWAKI/KUDO vs. Danshoku Dino/American Balloon/Masamune [1st Round]

The first Japanese team is AMAZING. Really hard hitting, crisp, etc. The second team sucks. Masamune is horrible, and the other two are pure comedy guys. It goes on way too long for a showcase of the first Japanese team's offense and Dino's homosexual offense. KUDO wins with the Flying Double Knees to Masamune.
**

In the back, Team F.I.S.T. and Chuck Taylor cut a promo. Icarus says this is not about Chris Hero, and says this is the new Kings of Wrestling and they will dominate yet another CHIKARA tournament, and they don't need Chris Hero to do it.

Match #6: Team F.I.S.T./Chuck Taylor vs. The Patriot/USApe/Jay Jaillet [1st Round]
This Patriot is Tom Brandi, according to the internet. The USA team is really not of any value, but this is a showcase for the new KOW unit. Icarus Pedigrees USApe to win.
*3/4

Match #7: Shiima Xion vs. Nobutaka Moribe

This sure happened. Moribe cheats to win.
*1/2

Match #8: Max Boyer [c] vs. Ricochet [CHIKARA Young Lions Cup]

This is more like it. Ricochet again brings some awesome flips and shit. This is the home of an amazing UMB/Sweeney exchange:

UMB: This young man is from Paduka, KY, yes?
Sweeney: Yes, he is. That was also the home of Miss Elizabeth!
UMB: Yes. Well. She's dead now.
Sweeney: ...yes.
UMB: I hate to be the bearer of bad news.

Boyer's control seg is boring, but Ricochet was great in this. He has a great offensive at the end, and Boyer wins with the Lifestyle.
**1/2

Before KOW vs. Los Ice Creams, VERY MYSTERIOUS ICE CREAM UNMASKS AS CLAUDIO! YEAH!

Match #9: Team F.I.S.T./Chuck Taylor vs. Los Ice Creams/Claudio Castagnoli [Quarterfinals]
Claudio is obviously upset with FIST, but the heels are a much more efficient team, and they isolate him. Really fun finishing run of Los Ice Creams stuff including a DOOMSDAY FLYING ASSHOLE! FIST were both kind of sloppy and Claudio seemed off here, so this could have been better. FIST beats Los Ice Creams with the Pedigree on one and the Yoshi Tonic on the other.
**1/2

Match #10: Yoshiaki Yago/MIYAWAKI/KUDO vs. Brandon Thomaselli/The Iron Saints [Quarterfinals]

Way better than this should have been. Not exactly great, but very good, which is impressive for a match with THREE Thomasellis in it. Lots of awesome offense from the foreigners. Went too long at some 17-18 minutes, leading to a really average Thomaselli control seg. The JApanese go NUTS with brutal strikes at the end, including an insane headbutt from MIYAWAKI to Sal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d34tPj8zoM0 MIYAWAKI hits a Powerslam off the top to win.

CHIKARA King of Trios 2007 Night Two
February 17th, 2007
The Barnesville Thunderdome
Barnesville, PA

Match #1: Gran Akuma vs. Masamune

Masamune is awful, once again. Akuma sort of drags him to something good, or at least something not awful. Akuma wins with his feet on the ropes.
**

Match #2: Chuck Taylor vs. Create-A-Wrestler

This is CAT's first match, I believe, so it's a little sloppy on his end. Chuck's shenanigans and stand up routine during the match carries this though, so it's enjoyable. It also has Chuck stealing an Alex Wright action figure that some fan brought and using it for a failed Moonsault, leading to UMB saying it is in the CHIKARA rulebook that use of Alex Wright is strictly prohibited. Taylor then also wins by using the ropes.
**

In the back, Team PWG of Joey Ryan and Arrogance cuts a promo. Bosh says he's studied tapes of their opponent and El Pantera? He mows a lawn like nobody's business! Joey says they flew all the way from Southern California only to fight Mexicans again, and they're going to beat the crap out of them and pay them less than minimum wage to clean it up.

Match #3: Joey Ryan/Arrogance vs. Lince Dorado/El Pantera/Sicodelico Jr. [1st Round]
Sicodelico Jr. is no good, but the other luchadores are fine. The PWG team are wonderful heels and carry their side of things very well with the awesome stalling and control segment. Unfortunately, Sicodelico gets the hot tag, so no big finishing run happens and he sort of just rolls up Bosh to win.
**3/4

Match #4: The Colony vs. Hallowicked/Up in Smoke [1st Round]

SO MUCH FUN! Only 10 minutes, but full of a ton of cool offense and lucha. Good matwork too, and despite having like 3 months of experience, Worker Ant managed to hold his own. Fire and Soldier look super improved once again. It breaks down after a bit and they do a lot of cool spots. In an all time great bullshit CHIKARA moment, Hallowicked gets a block of snow from outside and hits Fire Ant with it to disable him. GET IT?! Hallowicked beats Worker with the Go 2 Sleepy Hollow and then the Yakuza Kick.
***

Match #5: Mike Quackenbush/Jigsaw/Shane Storm vs. Max Boyer/2.0 [1st Round]

Lots of fun, as usual from 2.0. Boyer added nothing to this and is bland as usual, and Quack guided everyone through matwork, so this was a fine match for Los Tecnicos to win. Great 2.0 stooging early on, and then Storm takes a nasty bump to the floor to transition to the heel control seg. Nice little finishing run, and Storm beats Jagged with the Air Raid Crash.
***

Match #6: MCMG/Sonjay Dutt vs. Joker/Sabian/Ruckus [1st Round]

This is also great! This night is kicking the shit out of night one. Dutt even managed to not look totally worthless, and MCMG had some fine matwork with the BLK-OUT guys. UMB clearly has problems when it is Sabin vs. Sabian. HAIL SABIAN. Good finishing run and shit, and Sabin beats Ruckus with the Cradle Shock.
***

Match #7: Icarus vs. Player Uno

And we go back down to average. Probably the best of the FIST matches tonight. Icarus wins with the Pedigree.
**1/4

Match #8: Yoshiaki Yago/MIYAWAKI vs. The Olsen Twins

Very entertaining squash for the Japanese contingent. Really nasty beating, and Yago beats Jimmy with a Crucifix Powerbomb.
**1/4

Match #9: Hallowicked/Up in Smoke vs. Lince Dorado/El Pantera/Sicodelico Jr. [Quarterfinals]

Hallowicked and Up in Smoke do most of the work here, and apart from Sicodelico, nobody is really bad. Lince was quite impressive with his crispness, and the CHIKARA team had a lot of super awesome lucha stuff. Many inventive armdrags done really well, etc. They kept Sicodelico out, so yay. Lince beats Cheech with what can best be described as an inverted Whisper in the Wind off the top.
***

Match #10: Mike Quackenbush/Jigsaw/Shane Storm vs. MCMG/Sonjay Dutt

This was fucking great. Lots of really smooth and inventive matwork early on, especially with Quack vs. Shelley. Sonjay was again the weakest link. The TNA guys started being dicks, especially Shelley, which brought this up a level. It went on a little too long, so it's not as great as the KOW/Tecnicos matches that are structured a lot like this. Jigsaw beats Dutt with the Jig n' Tonic.

CHIKARA King of Trios 2007 Night Three
February 18th, 2007
The New Alhambra Arena
Philadelphia, PA

Match #1: Team F.I.S.T./Chuck Taylor vs. Yoshiaki Yago/MIYAWAKI/KUDO [Semi-Finals]

This is pretty awesome. FIST and Chuckie T cheat a lot, but they also are all on their games. With Akuma and Chuck there, Icarus can focus on his strong suit, which is plain old heeling. A lot of times, he gets bogged down with workrate-y stuff and that's not his forte at all. The Japanese team hits super hard and punishes the heels for being dicks in a big way. Excalibur and Sweeney are an AMAZING commentary team, and Excalibur further states his case for being the best commentator of the 2000s by giving Sole Food its name. Cool offense in the finishing run, hot crowd, and it goes the perfect length. Yago beats Chuckie T with the Razor's Edge. CHIKARA 2007 motherfucker.
***1/4

Match #2: Mike Quackenbush/Jigsaw/Shane Storm vs. Lince Dorado/El Pantera/Sicodelico Jr. [Semi-Finals]

This is completely different than the first match, being a face vs. face lucha libre style battle. Same great aspects though, as they have a hot crowd and do a lot of cool things in a timely fashion. Sicodelico again brings nothing of value to this, and the others cover for him. The Pantera/Quack exchanges are especially smooth and awesome. Quack beats Pantera with the Skayde Special.
***

Match #3: Allison Danger vs. La Malcriada

Ugh. This happened I guess. Way to drag down the show's average. Danger wins.
*1/2

Match #4: Max Boyer [c] vs. Sal Thomaselli [CHIKARA Young Lions Cup]

Wow, no thanks. This was not really any good, and for once, it is not all the fault of Max's boring offense or Sal being one of those hideous fucking abominations of Christ known as a Thomaselli. Whatever. Boyer wins with the Lifestyle.
*3/4

Match #5: Hallowicked vs. Matt Sydal

This is more like it! Really fantastic under 10 minute sprint. Sydal fits right in with the lucha style, being the best high flyer of this generation. Sydal is working the subtle heel gimmick he had in ROH around this time, and that's pretty awesome. Everything is super crisp here, and yeah. Hallowicked wins with the Graveyard Smash.
***

Match #6: Tag Team Gauntlet

-#1 is The New Jersey All Stars
-#2 is Shiima Xion and Jason Gory
-This is an alright match, I guess
-Xion and Gory win

-Dino gets the head inside the trunks Piledriver
-Balloonsault wins for the gay and the fattie

-Mitch Ryder is pro wrestling
-This is one of those insane ONLY IN CHIKARA~ pairings, like Dave Taylor vs. Skayde or something
-ROBBIE DOES A FUCKING SHIRANUI TO WIN!
-#6 is The Prescription Thugs
-They are quickly beaten
-#7 is 2.0
-BOOYA!
-2.0 wins with a Double STO
-#8 is Joey Ryan and Excalibur
-EXCALIBUR IS IN ANOTHER PAIR OF JOEY'S TRUNKS OVER HIS NORMAL BODYSUIT! AMAZING!
-This is the most fun match yet
-Joey working as de facto babyface is very enjoyable
-2.0 is 2.0
-Shane Matthews sprays Joey's inhaler in Excalibur's eyes and rolls him up to win
#9 is Soldier Ant and Worker Ant
-2.0 quickly beats them as well
-2.0 NOW HAS THREE POINTS! FUCK YEAH! IF THEY WIN IT, THEY CAN CHALLENGE FOR THE BELTS!
-#10 is The Olsen Twins
-THEY ROLL UP MATTHEWS AND 2.0 IS OUT!
-#11 is LARRY SWEENEY AND THE SHARECROPPER
-FUCK YEAH SHARECROPPER!

-FUCK YEAH SHARECROPPER!!!!!
-SWEENEY AS BABYFACE FOR THE SECOND TIME IN A ROW!
-12 LARGE ELBOW FOR THE WIN!
-#12 is Player Uno and Create a Wrestler
-They're fine, but they are the least exciting team in the more recent run of entrants
-They lose to SNSI
-#13 is ARROGANCE
-THEY COME OUT TO "HERE I GO AGAIN" BY WHITESNAKE
-ARROGANCE SOMEHOW GOT EVEN MORE AWESOME!
-They eliminate SNSI with stereo inside cradles
-#14 is Fire Ant and Equinox
-Arrogance again looks fantastic
-They win with the Northern Lights Backbreaker
-#15 is UltraMantis Black and Hydra
-Bosh kills Hydra with the Screwdriver

-#16 IS UP IN SMOKE! YEAH!

-Cloudy rolls up Bosh to win
-#17 is Brandon and Vito as the final team
-Sort of a letdown after the AMAZING Arrogance/UIS pairing
-But Up in Smoke guide them well
-Cheech beats Brandon with The Deluxe!
-So this was a ton of fun. A few eh pairings, but mostly really awesome.
***

UP IN SMOKE HAVE 3 POINTS AND CAN NOW CHALLENGE FOR THE BELTS! YEAH!

Match #7: Ken The Box vs. Mecha Mummy
AMAZING! A FUCKING TREE MAN FIGHTING A ROBOT MUMMY!
TEN MILLION STARS

Match #8: Sara Del Rey vs. Daizee Haze

They have their usual fun match. They did an amazing job laying this show out, as there's three distinct peaks in the opening matches, the tag gauntlet, and the main events. In between, they've done a good job calming the crowd down and gradually bringing them back up. Usual power vs. speed stuff, with Haze's heel act working well. She cheats to win.
**1/4

Match #9: Masamune vs. Nobutaka Moribe

Well this sure happened. Two inexperienced guys fighting, so there's a lot of slip ups, despite having some neat ideas. Masamune wins with a Tilt-a-Whirl Reverse DDT.
**1/4

Match #10: Claudio Castagnoli vs. Ricochet

This is awesome. Fucking great match. Claudio's amazing 2007 has started in CHIKARA, I suppose, as he guides Ricochet to probably his career match at this point. Claudio is not happy with now being cheered, and yeah. Lots of amazing big/little spots and there were at least 4 or 5 things in this that made me go "FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!" even 5 years after it happened. Claudio wins with an ungodly Pop Up European Uppercut.
***1/2

Match #11: Mike Quackenbush/Jigsaw/Shane Storm vs. Yoshiaki Yago/MIYAWAKI/KUDO [King of Trios 2007 Finals]

Pretty good match. Nice styles clash with lucha and high flying vs. striking. The CHIKARA team keeps it on the mat early on, but they have a hard time with the power of MIYAWAKI and Yago. Japanese control seg on Storm and then Jigsaw went far too long and extended the match much longer than it needed to go at like 25 minutes. Good finishing run. KUDO is hit with the QD2 and then a Flying Legdrop from Jigsaw for the win.

CHIKARA Best Imitation of Myself
March 23rd, 2007
Reading, PA

Match #1: UltraMantis Black w/ Hydra vs. Create-a-Wrestler

Short squash for UMB. Praying Mantis Bomb gets the win.
*1/2

Match #2: Fire Ant vs. Billy Roc

Billy Roc is a guy from the Midwest, who was showing a lot of promise around this time. They have a nice little back and forth match. Lots of roll ups and fancy holds and while it is all very good looking, there's not really a ton there.
**3/4

Match #3: Chris Hero vs. Hallowicked

Hero is returning from his first NOAH tour. This is really good. Lots of awesome matwork, great Hero control seg and trash talking, big Hallowicked comeback. Really everything you'd want out of this pairing. Hero gets the Rolling Elbow, a Cravat Suplex, and then a Standing Moonsault that he nearly did a headplant on for the win.
***

Claudio runs out to try and get at Hero, but he bails. He tries to leave by commentary, BUT QUACK GETS UP AND STANDS IN HIS WAY! FUCK YEAH! Hero goes to the back door and Quack gets in the ring. Claudio gets on the mic and says if he's half the man he claims to be, he'll fight him in a singles match. Quack takes the mic and says they're all glad he's back, but he's been trying to get a match with Hero for TWO YEARS. He's beaten everyone in the Kings of Wrestling in singles matches, he's beat him in tags, and he's asked for a match with Hero every month for the last two years, and Hero's turned him down every time. Quack says Claudio has a legitimate beef, but he's next in line behind him. Hero gets his own mic and says he just beat someone and says since they have a match tomorrow night, he'll agree to face the winner on April 22nd in Philadelphia!

Match #4: Joker/Sabian vs. 2.0
Neither team has any points. This sort of just happens for a while and they do not mesh well. 2.0 gets the win with a schoolboy holding the shorts of Sabian.
**1/4

BLK-OUT argues with the ref post-match, and they storm off.

Match #5: Ricochet vs. Shayne Hawke
Fun match. Hawke's shenanigans are a lot of fun, and Ricochet continues to look very good. He wins with a Standing SSP.
**1/2

Leonard Chikarason comes out and invites Ricochet to be in the Rey de Voladores tournament on April 22nd.

Match #6: Chuck Taylor vs. Ruckus w/ BLK-OUT
This happened alright. They sort of just did a lot of moves for 10 minutes. Chuck is not the best moooooves~ wrestler. He works largely on strength of personality and has a few nice moves. Ruckus probably ruined him. They go to a 10 minute draw, and Chuck refuses to have any more time.
**1/4

Match #7: Max Boyer [c] vs. Soldier Ant [CHIKARA Young Lions Cup]

Fucking Boyer being Boyer. Chris Hero again comes out to watch Boyer. Waaaaay too much Boyer offense, and he wins with The Lifestyle.
*3/4

Match #8: Los Ice Creams vs. Lince Dorado/Sicodelico Jr.

Sicodelico is again awful, but the others are all good. Los Ice Creams have incredible comedy and bullshit. Maybe the most "pure fun" tag team in CHIKARA history, given that they rarely had to be in a serious situation that exposed them. Los Ice Creams have an awesome control seg and shit and then Lince hits a crazy Spike Rana for the win.
**3/4

Match #9: Claudio Castagnoli vs. Eddie Kingston

Hero is on commentary and says he did what he did to Claudio because he lost and he needed to be toughened up. King is coming back from a bad ankle injury. Thanks, Justice Pain. King tries to keep Claudio away from the ankle and they have an awesome slugfest. Claudio has some amazing strength spots and King's selling and desperation are once again really fucking great. Claudio can't knock him out, so he goes to the ankle and starts yanking on it on the mat with his knee over the knee of King and it causes a tap out.
***

Match #10: Team F.I.S.T. [c] vs. Jigsaw/Shane Storm [CHIKARA Campeonatos Des Parejas]

In the first minute of the match, Jigsaw gets Icarus with an inside cradle to go up 1-0! Icarus then snaps and takes Jig to the floor and hits a Pedigree on the wood floor! Storm is then all alone and is dominated. Sort of meandering stuff, and a dead crowd does not help. Akuma beats Storm with a Crucifix Bomb to even it up. Jig gets back in briefly, but is hurt. Cool finish idea, but it is botched. Jig jumps for a Frankensteiner, but Icarus jumps behind him and gets a Lungblower out of the air for the win.

CHIKARA Time Will Prove Everything
March 24th, 2007
Hellertown Star Lanes
Hellertown, PA

Match #1: Chuck Taylor vs. Billy Roc

This is much more Taylor's speed. Basic heel/face formula, with a lot of awesome lucha by Roc and bumping by Chuck. He has some cool offense when he takes over, and then they have an awesome finishing run. Roc looks really smooth with all his lucha and high flying and he fits in perfect with CHIKARA. Chuckie T wins with the Omega Driver.
***

Match #2: Brodie Lee vs. Equinox

This is pre-trucker Brodie, so he is not great. He shows some promise, yeah, but it's not there as a whole package. Equinox manages to not botch anything, and he wins with a cradle.
**

Match #3: Crossbones vs. Create-a-Wrestler

Basically a Crossbones showcase, but CAT did alright for himself. Crossbones wins with the Freaking Sweet Driver.
*3/4

Match #5: Hallowicked/The Colony vs. Eddie Kingston/Sabian/Joker/Ruckus

This is easily the best Colony match yet. Soldier and Fire look really crisp and energetic, and it is wonderful. The BLK-OUT all bring stuff to this as well, sorking as subtle heels against the masked dudes who everyone loves. They isolate Soldier Ant and really just beat the dog shit out of him. Lots of cool double and triple teams. Big finishing run of dives and Colony offense. Hallowicked rolled up Kingston to win.
***1/2

King is mad and hits a Yakuza Kick on Hallowicked and shoves the ref out. IT HAS BEGUN!

Match #5: Chris Hero vs. Ricochet
Hero debuts the fantastic Superman gear here. Awesome Hero vs. rookie match, with him dominating the match and being just the biggest asshole in the world. Ricochet comes back with his high flying and what not, and Hero makes him look awesome. Hero cuts off his flurry by just yanking him down by the hair, and then hitting the Hero's Welcome for the win.
***

Match #6: Jigsaw/Shane Storm vs. The Olsen Twins

Jig and Storm are back down to 0 points. They weren't great here, but the Olsens were awesome. Crisp offense and shit and an awesome control segment of basic heel offense. Jigsaw beats Colin Olsen with the Jig n' Tonic.
**1/2

Match #7: Mike Quackenbush vs. Claudio Castagnoli [Winner Faces Hero on 4/22]

No idea why this is not the main event. This is Quack vs. Claudio and it is really great. They do some nice matwork for once, before they start with the lucha and Claudio takes over. Awesome power spots, and then a big awesome finishing run with lots of inventive counters and shit. It's fucking Quack and Claudio. The ref is accidentally knocked down and Quack has it won with the QD3, but the ref is out. He checks on the ref, allowing Claudio to hit a European Uppercut to the back and then he gets a backslide for the win.
***1/2

It is now Hero/Claudio on 4/22.

Match #8: Team F.I.S.T. vs. Lince Dorado/Sicodelico Jr. [1]
This should not be the main. What the fuck? IT was still good, very good, but still. Hero is on commentary and says right now, FIST are like teenagers rebelling from their parents, but he knows they value his teachings and will come back. FIST had some awesome offense, but then Sicodelico dragged it way down. Lince had a nice run at the end, and Icarus gets a low blow so Akuma can roll him up to win.

CHIKARA Rey De Voladores
April 22nd, 2007
The New Alhambra Arena
Philadelphia, PA

In the back, Chuck Taylor cuts a promo. He says tonight's tournament name means King of the Flippy Little Boys, but he's not gonna do any flips. He says he's got a British guy that's gonna day, an American guy that's gonna die, and Ricochet's gonna die again, and then he's gonna go home and sleep a lot before class tomorrow.

Match #1: Chuck Taylor vs. PAC vs. Ricochet vs. Retail Dragon [RDV Qualifying Elimination Match]
This was a lot of fun. The three faces do a lot of high flying and flips, and it's all really crisp and spectacular. Chuck then tries to do as little as possible and keep Ricochet in, since he beats him all the time. It ends up as PAC vs. Chuck in the final pairing, and PAC yet again is super impressive. Chuck wins with the Omega Driver.
***

Match #2: Jigsaw vs. Lince Dorado vs. Ruckus vs. Equinox [RDV Qualifying Elimination Match]

This is also really good. Some awesome dives, and it's mostly Lince vs. Jigsaw, so that's a great pairing. Jig and Lince eliminate the other two with stereo schoolboys, so the bulk of this is a singles match. Lince again wins with his weird Cartwheel Moonsault in an upset.
**3/4

It is now Chuck vs. Lince in the finals.

Match #3: UltraMantis Black/Crossbones/Hydra vs. Tim Donst/Andy Sumner/Drew Gulak
DONST DEBUTS! YEAH! This is basically a squash for the Order, but it is fine enough. UMB beats Donst with the Praying Mantis Bomb.
**

Match #4: Larry Sweeney vs. Shane Storm

This is a match. It sort of just happens and is a showcase for Sweeney being Sweeney. Storm, separated from his partners, is revealed to still not be very good. Oh well. Chris Hero comes out and as Sweeney distracts the ref, he hits Storm with a Yakuza Kick, and Sweeney covers to win.
**

Match #5: Fire Ant vs. Lance Steel

Fire Ant looked very good here, and this existed to showcase him, so that was a good thing. He wins in short fashion with the Beach Break.
**

In the back, Eddie Kingston cuts a promo. He says everyone always says Hallowicked is the best student to ever come out of CHIKARA, and he's even said it, but Hallowicked's never beaten him. He says he's done a lot of stuff too, and if Hallowicked wants to be the top student, he has to beat him.

Instead of King vs. Hallowicked actually happening, Kingston jumps Hallowicked as he comes out! They have an AWESOME brawl, but it never really becomes a match, unfortunately. They go back and forth for a bit, but Kingston gets the edge and starts just beating the shit out of Hallowicked, and he lays him out on the floor. Referees come out to break it up, and Kingston leaves. BUT KINGSTON COMES BACK AS HE GETS UP, AND HE THROWS HIM OFF THE APRON TO THE FLOOR! YEAH!

Match #6: Joker/Sabian vs. The Colony [Soldier Ant/Worker Ant]
This feud is great. It puts The Colony in a serious feud where they can work against other good wrestlers, and also gets talented guys like Sabian and Joker on cards regularly. The clash of serious ghetto dudes vs. whacky CHIKARA gimmicks is also fun. That being said, this is probably the least of the BLK-OUT/Colony matches, as they have a hard time clicking early on. BLK-OUT control seg on Soldier ruled. Worker gets knocked out on his feet near the end, so BLK-OUT kind of stalls. Soldier gets back in and they awkwardly do a roll up finish on Sabian for the win.
**3/4

BLK-OUT then beats down Soldier Ant.

Match #7: Chuck Taylor vs. Lince Dorado [Rey De Voladores 2007 Finals]
Real good stuff once again from Chuckie T. Really really entertaining control seg, being really fucking lazy and obnoxious. Lince has a fun comeback of dives and highspots and shit. Chuck gets the win with the Omega Driver, which beats literally everyone. KING OF THE FLIPPY LITTLE BOYS!
***

Match #8: Chris Hero w/ Larry Sweeney vs. Claudio Castagnoli [Special Referee: Mike Quackenbush - If Hero Wins, Claudio Rejoins Kings of Wrestling - If Claudio Wins, Hero is His Butler For 90 Days]

This is really great. Sweeney is now in Hero's corner in CHIKARA too, I guess, and that's a natural fit. Awesome matwork early on, while Hero also heels it up. Claudio starts to control with awesome offense before Hero takes over with experience, which is logical. Hero starts being a dick to Quack too. They start having a big awesome exchange of bomb at the end and it is Claudio in 2007, so it's amazing. Sweeney pulls Quack out, so he hits Sweeney! As that happens, Hero gets a low blow and rolls up Claudio and Quack didn't see the nut shot, so he counts the three!
***1/2

Claudio is now back in the Kings of Wrestling against his own will.

Sweeney and Claudio leave as Hero celebrates, and he gets on the mic. He says that proves once and for all that he's the true King of Wrestling. He calls Quack to get in the ring too. Hero says he just beat the guy that Quack beat last month, and says Quack is an excellent wrestler and in fall 2004, he did beat him. But while Quack might be better now than he was then, he is SO much better than he was then and than Quack is now. He says he's been trying to get a piece of him since Tag World 2005, and he might have been a bit worried at first, but he's got all the confidence in the world now. He says out of the goodness of his heart, he'll give Quack that rematch with THE Chris Hero, but only if he mans up and shakes his hand right here. Quack shakes his hand and Hero tries a cheap shot, but Quack twists his arm around. He forces him to the mat and stands with one foot on his throat. He picks up the mic and says he'll see him at Aniversario. FUCK YEAH!

Match #9: Team F.I.S.T. [c] vs. Up in Smoke [CHIKARA Campeonatos Des Parejas]
This is awesome too! Classic underdog story. FIST doesn't take them seriously, and both Cheech and Cloudy dominate them on the mat, with lucha, and in the air. FIST tries to get INTENSE~ with one of their big double teams, but Cloudy counters into a sunset flip on Akuma for the 1st fall! They keep dominating until Akuma takes over. AND HE KICKS CLOUDY SO HARD HE FUCKING VOMITS IN THE RING JESUS CHRIST! He starts smiling and shit at this, and it makes Cloudy an even better face in peril. Lots of awesome cut-offs. Icarus gets the Pedigree and then makes Cloudy tap to the Burning Wings of Icarus. During the rest period, they beat down Cheech on the floor so Cloudy can't just tag out. BUT AS THEY DO THAT, CLOUDY WIPES THEM OUT WITH A DIVE! YEAH! Cloudy is out after that though, just giving Cheech enough time to fight back. He's stuck in a 2 on 1 though, so FIST keeps him out and throws the hurt Cloudy back in. They get REALLY brutal with him and Quack and Chikarason do an amazing job on commentary. Finishing run is AWESOME, but ends kind of abruptly with a Superbomb from Akuma to Cloudy.

CHIKARA ANIVERSARIO?
MAY 26TH, 2007
HELLERTOWN STAR LANES
HELLERTOWN, PA

Match #1: The Colony [Fire Ant/Soldier Ant] vs. The Olsen Twins

Neither team has any points, and this is a fantastic opener. The referee catches Colin Olsen trying to sneak in a magnifying glass. Fantastic. The Colony are looking increasingly crisp, almost with every show. This was more of them trying to have a really entertaining match than trying to have a great match, like the Olsens/UIS series. It still did its job though, and they had a great finishing run. Soldier beats Colin with the Diving Saluting Headbutt.
**3/4

Match #2: Brodie Lee vs. Equinox

This is much more of a Brodie squash. Equinox takes some nice bumps, and Brodie wins with the Liger Bomb.
**

Match #3: Player Uno vs. Shayne Hawke

Entertaining match. Hawke has some very entertaining bullshit, and they have some nice offense to back and forth for a little. Hawke hits the pause button on Uno's gear and then stands him on the floor to try for a count out. At 15, Worker Ant comes out and unpauses him, and he runs back in. Hawke presses it again when he's on the mat, and pins him that way to win.
**1/4

Worker Ant and Hydra come out for their match, and Uno is still in the ring. Worker unpauses him again, and he tries to kickout before realizing the match has been over for some time, and he leaves.

Match #4: Worker Ant vs. Hydra w/ UltraMantis Black
Kingston shits on the ants on commentary, continuing the BLK-OUT/Colony feud. This is a low key comedy match. Hydra's faux-strength spots are very entertaining as usual. Worker Ant puts a large paper bag over him, and Hydra, in fact, cannot fight or wrestle his way out of a paper bag. Worker gets a Moonsault on him to win.
**

Match #5: Mitch Ryder vs. Shane Storm

This is a nice showcase for Ryder's style. Storm is really exposed here though, being boring as fuck without others to guide him, and not having the charisma or presence to work Ryder's match well. Ryder keeps hiding a boot lace in his singlet that he pulls out to choke Storm, working over the throat. Storm never gets a real comeback, as Ryder sends him throat-first into the top rope and schoolboys him to win.
**

Hero gives Mitch a standing ovation from commentary, and Larry Sweeney comes out. He congratulates Ryder on the match and then breaks out his best line, "IS LARRY SWEENEY LOOKING GOOD TONIGHT OR WHAT?!" He says as he and Hero reformulate the Kings of Wrestling, and he wants Ryder in the group! Ryder accepts! Yeah! Sweeney then calls out Claudio to fulfill his contractual obligation as part of the Kings of Wrestling, and Claudio comes out.

Match #6: Claudio Castagnoli/Larry Sweeney vs. Lince Dorado/El Pantera
This is awesome. Claudio and Sweeney bump around well for the luchadores, and Claudio carries them on the mat. Swiss n' Sour have a pretty good control seg, and then the finishing run is very good. The luchadores have two great dives, and then yeah. Claudio accidentally hits Sweeney with a European Uppercut, and then Lince rolls up Sweeney to win.
***

Match #7: Max Boyer [c] vs. Create-a-Wrestler [CHIKARA Young Lions Cup]

This is basically a Boyer squash. No idea why this is for the cup. Whatever, he wins with the Lifestyle.
*3/4

Hero comes out to applaud, BUT FIST COMES OUT BEHIND HIM, AND THEY HIT THE RING FIRST! They offer him a spot with the real Kings of Wrestling, and he accepts! Hero is displeased.

In the back, Eddie Kingston cuts a promo. He says he remembers Hallowicked laying on his back in pain. He says he never liked him or respected him, even while everyone kissed up to him. He says he was the one who broke out first, not Hallowicked, and they knew his name before they knew his. He says he's going to end the myth of Hallowicked being the best CHIKARA student, and says their matches are going to change Hallowicked. Last of a Dying Breed. The best student. Eddie Kingston,

Match #8: Eddie Kingston vs. Hallowicked
Awesome brawl. Some really nice learned spots, such as Hallowicked coming out from the crowd to counter King again waiting by the stage to jump him. Hallowicked has a great Tope Suicida and then a Suplex on the floor, causing King to have great back selling all throughout the match. Awesome finishing run, and Kingston is DQ'd after ripping the mask on the mat and refusing to stop biting Hallowicked.
***1/4

They keep fighting, and they get pulled apart.

Match #9: Team F.I.S.T. vs. Dragon Yuki/Kagora
The japanese guys are AWFUL. Fat and inexperienced. FIST did a good job getting good stuff out of them here, and certainly made the match at least passable, but when the Japanese guys had to do their own stuff, they looked really tentative and nervous. Icarus beats Kagora with the Pedigree.
**1/4

In the back, Chris Hero cuts a promo. He talks about the history with Quack, going back two and a half years, and he brags about costing Quack the Tag World Grand Prix in 2005, and says Quack's been chasing him ever since. He says after he beat Claudio last month, he looked at the big picture, and what he's done in the last year, even the last six months. He says Quack always dreamed of going to Japan, but he's actually done it. He's wrestled on four continents, and he has nothing to prove anymore to Quack. He says Quack has no move he doesn't know, and he's going to finally end this for good.

Man, this fucking feud. I love this fucking feud.

So, around March-May of 2007, I first downloaded King of Trios Nights 2 & 3, and I loved them. I downloaded Rey De Voladores and loved that too. As a result, I downloaded a lot of older CHIKARA from 2005-6. A Best of 2005 comp, Night 3 of TWGP, TWGP 2006, the Ciberneticos, etc. I really fell in love with the simplistic nature of Hero vs. Quack, probably in my top 5 favorite feuds ever. Former tag partners break up. Hero beats Quack and denies him a rematch, also taking his former students and turning them against Quack. Quack chases him, and usually, this thing can last six months or so, leading to the next huge show. But this kind of insane patience is unheard of. Having the feud always being there, and being the root of every major conflict in the company over the last 2 years, getting brought up in matches constantly.

It's time.

Posted Image

Match #10: Chris Hero vs. Mike Quackenbush
I have a certain attachment to this because it saved pro wrestling for me post-Benoit, but even without that or without any knowledge of the feud, it's still a really great match. Awesome bumping from both men, good big/little spots, great Hero control segment, big fiery Quack comeback, and a great finishing run all within about 15-20 minutes. What takes it from being great to being one of my favorite matches ever is the logic behind everything. I remember talking with TWJC about how he was mad that this wasn't a big fight like he thought a 2+ year built up grudge match should be, but it's all about Quack humiliating Hero on the mat to begin after he brags too much, then Hero using natural size advantage to take over. Sort of a classic story of a guy using his natural gifts but underestimating someone who succeeds almost solely on willpower, much like another classic singles match in 2007 in Cena/Orton. Whenever Hero is in trouble, he uses his size or power to take control back, but he always then tries to outwrestle Quack for the win. Which is how this all started at TPI 2004, with Hero being embarrassed on the mat by Quack. He gets gradually more frustrated with this, and starts straight up punching and choking him. Nice finishing run, using big signature offense, but neither man being able to hit their finish after 2+ years of fighting, which is logical. Quack debuts the CHIKARA Special to win.
****1/4

Quack gets a big standing ovation in the ring, and he thanks everyone for supporting CHIKARA for 5 years.

In the back, Quack says he had to invent a new hold to beat Chris Hero, and he says he's going to teach it to all the roster and all the students and even Hero's partners if they want it, and that move is going to beat Hero over and over, and that's just the first in a long line of victories courtesy of the CHIKARA Special.

CHIKARA Aniversario!
May 27th, 2007
The New Alhambra Arena
Philadelphia, PA

Match #1: Brodie Lee vs. Retail Dragon

Brodie again shows potential, including a great Big Boot. They get really painfully sloppy at the end, and Brodie wins with a Liger Bomb.
*3/4

Match #2: UltraMantis Black/Hydra w/ Crossbones vs. The Olsen Twins

This is good and a fine comedy undercard match, but at the same time, it's also kind of a waste of both teams, weirdly. They do some strength spots with Colin and Hydra, and UMB and Jimmy both look great on offense. UMB reverses a roll up into one of his own for the win.
**1/2

Match #3: Shayne Hawke vs. Create-a-Wrestler

Another enjoyable Hawke showcase, but hardly great or anything. Hawke wins by using the ropes.
*3/4

In the back, Mitch Ryder cuts a promo with Los Ice Creams. He says he got flown up here this weekend from Memphis to take the place of a hoochadore that couldn't make it, and asks why the masked illegal immigrants are taking roster spots that could belong a decent hard working American like him. Los Ice Creams walk away from him, and he is outraged.

Match #4: Mitch Ryder/Los Ice Creams vs. Lince Dorado/El Pantera/Player Uno
Really fun clash of styles. Comedy early on with Los Ice Creams and Uno was a ton of fun, and then the rudos had a very good control seg. Lince gets in and they have a nice finishing run. He hits Ice Cream Jr. with the Spike Huracanrana and then his Cartwheel Splash thing, but Ryder gets in and blatantly kicks him in the groin for the DQ.
**3/4

Los Ice Creams are not pleased with Ryder, but he walks out on them.

Match #5: Dragon Yuki vs. Kagora
Blegh. Sloppy, uninteresting, and they lost the crowd big time here. Yuki wins with a horrible Frog Splash that looks like he did more harm to his knees than his opponent.
*1/4

Match #6: Dr. Cube/Call-Me-Kevin vs. Dusto Bunny/Gii the Space Pirate [Kaiju Big Battle Offer Match]

Kaiju is this weird fucked up theater of space monsters and shit fighting in a loose wrestling format with no real skill or anything. It's creative as hell, but just not my cup of tea at all. I can watch CHIKARA, because at the end of it all, it's still pro wrestling and there's normal dudes mixed in with the more comedy based characters, and the comedy based characters can actually deliver in the ring. This killed the crowd even more.
Fuck Kaiju

Match #7: Max Boyer vs. Pelle Primeau

Pelle is getting good enough at this point to carry Boyer theoretically, but this was once again a huge bag of boring shit. Boyer wins with the Lifestyle.
*3/4

Match #8: Mike Quackenbush/Shane Storm/Equinox vs. The Colony

Really well done face vs. face match. The Colony get put over huge as having superior teamwork and them being better at one on one than Storm or Equinox. Their only real issue was having to go one on one with Quack, who after beating Hero, is pretty firmly the promotion's Ace, and much more experienced, so it makes sense that by isolating an ant alone with Quack, that was how they won. And it still took a big big move for Quack to put down Fire Ant, with a Super Tiger Driver.
***

Match #9: Incoherence [1] vs. Eddie Kingston/Ruckus

I have no issue with Ruckus and Delirious, and I like them best in CHIKARA, but they just get in the way of more King/Hallowicked. That being said, this was more just a really good formula tag than the hate-filled brawls King and Hallowicked have had. The King/Hallowicked exchanges were clearly the best. Delirious makes Ruckus tap to the Cobra Stretch.
**3/4

Match #10: The Kings of Wrestling/Larry Sweeney w/ Mitch Ryder vs. Team F.I.S.T./Chuck Taylor w/ Max Boyer

I know the idea is Kings vs. Kings, but Hero and Claudio are The Kings of Wrestling. I like FIST and Chuck a lot, but come on. Anyways, this is fine enough for a heel vs. heel match. The exchanges were good, and the matwork to open up was pretty great. Sweeney and Chuckie T were both very entertaining. The crowd was already dead though, and it being heel vs. heel kind of killed it. Akuma beats Sweeney with the 450 Splash.
**3/4

The teams keep arguing, but Ryder gets on the mic. He says CHIKARA has split them up because nobody could stop them if they were aligned, and he gets them to reunite as one coherent Kings of Wrestling stable! Yeah!

CHIKARA Young Lions Cup V Night Three
June 24th, 2007
Hellertown Star Lanes
Hellertown, PA

The Kings of Wrestling, represented by Hero, Sweeney, Ryder, and Boyer, come out to open the show with an interview. Ryder puts them all over, and Hero introduces their friend, the next Young Lions Cup champion, Chuck Taylor! Hero asks what he's going to do with the cup when he wins it and he says he might drink milk out of it. Sweeney puts over milk and says in India and the east, the cow is sacred, because they appreciate all that comes from it. He says the plebians here would drink beer from the cup, and says they're all bums sitting here getting drunk on a Sunday afternoon instead of being with their families. They tell Chuck to make them proud, and they all have a group hug around Boyer's cup.

After they are gone, Team F.I.S.T. comes out. Icarus gets on the mic and says last night was a fluke, and to prove it, they'll fight any tag team who wants a match with them AND LOS ICE CREAMS COME OUT! YEAH!

Match #1: Team F.I.S.T. vs. Los Ice Creams
Super energetic opening tag, and LIC have really found their calling as a babyface team, since everyone just fucking loves them. FIST takes over, and they have a really good control seg. Big comeback and yeah. Icarus gets tied up in the ropes long enough for Los Ice Creams to roll up Akuma with a combo of a La Magistral and a Jackknife Pin for the upset two nights in a row!
***

Match #2: UltraMantis Black/Crossbones/Hydra vs. Moscow the Communist Bovine/Player Uno/Super Xtremo

Surprisingly fun match. The Order looks very good again. UMB refuses to get in the ring with his bovine brethren, in his words. Comedy with Hydra and Moscow was again fantastic. Great finishing run, including CROSSBONES PUNCHING THE COW IN THE FACE! UMB beats Xtremo with the Praying Mantis Bomb.
**3/4

Match #3: Billy Roc vs. Amigo Suzuki

Another match that exceeded my expectations. Not great, but it was at least average, and I had no expectations. Billy Roc sells his knee well after Amigo works on it, including after he gets the pin with the Frog Splash.
**1/2

In the back, the Olsen Twins cut a promo. Jimmy says the Express is out of style and 2007 is the year of the twins. TELL EM COLIN! WELL! He mentions the DOA, the Blue Brothers, and the Harris Twins as great twin teams, as well as the Twin Towers. THE TWIN IS IN!

Match #4: The North Star Express vs. The Olsen Twins
Really really entertaining match, but not quite great. This is the match with the first slo-mo spot from the North Stars, and in small doses, it's a really fun spot. Olsens have a good control seg, more on the side of goofy than outright good. Finishing run also had some good stuff, but felt held back. Jimmy rolls up Corbin with the ropes for sort of an upset.
**3/4

Match #5: Mitch Ryder vs. Lince Dorado

This was fun, but got cut off before it could come to a climax, for storyline purposes. Ryder dominates and looks great, but Lince gets a flash crucifix pin coming off the ropes to win.
**3/4

Ryder lays Lince out post-match.

Match #6: Mike Quackenbush vs. Shayne Hawke
Highly entertaining match. Hawke's stooging and bullshit early on is marvelous. He claims cheating, which in response, leads to Quack doing everything he was accused of behind the ref's back. Hawke has a good control seg, and Quack gets mad and kills him with the QD2 to win.
**3/4

Match #7: The Colony [Fire Ant/Soldier Ant] [1] vs. Sabian/Ruckus

This is fucking great. Typical Colony vs. BLK-OUT with a lot of hate going on. BLK-OUT dominates, pulls on the masks, talks shit to the crowd, and really put on a shockingly great heel performance. Fire and Soldier are really stiff and awesome and they have an awesome finishing run of offense. Sabian just KILLS Fire with a Flying Double Stomp for the win.
***

They keep beating on The Colony post-match. Worker Ant tries to save, but he also gets laid out in a 2 on 1.

Match #8: The Kings of Wrestling vs. Up in Smoke
MOTN so far. Not as blowaway great as their 2010 ROH match, but they all improved leaps and bounds by then. Still awesome. Lots of great bumping by the Kings, and they keep selling the tension there as well. They have their awesome control seg, and then Cheech and Cloudy have a lot of high flying and flippy dos for their comeback. Claudio kills Cloudy and then hits a Deadlift Ricola German Suplex for the win.
***

Match #9: Jigsaw/Hallowicked/Shane Storm vs. Larry Sweeney/Arik Cannon/Max Boyer

This is happening because these are the six former YLC holders. It was alright. Would have been better without Boyer being in for like 75% of the match, but whatever. Good finishing run, and Hallowicked beats Cannon with the CHIKARA Special.
**3/4

Match #10: Chuck Taylor vs. Ricochet [CHIKARA Young Lions Cup V Finals]

Not as great as their November match, but it was less of a frantic spotfest and more of a real normal match. Still really awesome, as Ricochet takes huge ass bumps, and Chuckie T is Chuckie T. Awesome finishing run of nearfalls and big moves, and Chuck gets the obvious win with the Omega Driver.
***

In the parking lot, Chuck cuts a promo with the Cup as fireworks go off in the background, and he says those are all for him. He says he's worked 27 years in the business for this, and the city of Hellertown loves him and he thanks nobody but himself, because he's the best. If he was a woman, he would cry, but he's a man and he's strong and majestic. RAWR.

CHIKARA Showdown in Crisisland
July 21st, 2007
Wallingford, CT

Posted Image

Referee Bryce Remsburg holds up the belt, so this is for the NWA Title, I assume.

Match #1: Los Ice Creams [1] vs. The Olsen Twins [1] [NWA World Heavyweight Championship]
Colin tries to get out of it by saying he's lactose intolerant, and Jimmy comes out eating ice cream. This is both a great tag match and a whole lot of fun. Some really amazing comedy early on, and then the Olsens bump around a lot, and have some really impressive and huge bumps. Really good control seg, and then a great hot tag by Los Ice Creams. Jimmy accidentally gives himself a brain freeze, and gets hit with the Cold Stone Stunner and the Jack and Jillhammer for the win, and LIC have 2 points!
***

Match #2: Ophidian vs. Player Uno

This is Ophidian's debut. He is an Egyptian snake, and works the gimmick very well. He and Uno have a neat movefest and Ophidian wins with the Osirian Death Grip, which is a Cobra Clutch with a bodyscissors.
**1/2

Match #3: The Colony vs. Team F.I.S.T./Max Boyer

The last Boyer appearance :) . One positive of the Benoit deal in 2007 was this fuckhead Boyer quitting the business. Eddie Kingston is on commentary with Chikarason, who explains that Hallowicked isn't on this show because they don't want them to fight tonight. Anyways, this is really good. FIST and The Colony again have a lot of chemistry, but Boyer drags it down from being great. Fire gets a Victory Roll on Boyer to win.
**3/4

FIST walks out on Boyer for losing.

Match #4: Claudio Castagnoli vs. Sicodelico Jr.
2007 is a year when Claudio was in a bunch of different places putting on amazing matches all the time, and this is probably the weakest of all his singles matches, just because Sicodelico blows. Claudio being Claudio, he still got a ton out of him but it's still not at the high level he's been working at all through 2007. Claudio wins with the Ricola Bomb.
**3/4

Match #5: Mike Quackenbush/Jigsaw/Shane Storm vs. Shayne Hawke/2.0

This was really enjoyable again. Wonderful comedy from all the heels to begin, before things picked up a little. Solid heel control seg and a good finishing run. Lacked a certain something to be great and in a huge upset, Shayne Hawke beats Shane Storm with the Tomahawke.
**3/4

As he celebrates, Hero and FIST come out to watch, and they all shake his hand. He is ecstatic.

In the back, 2.0 and Shayne Hawke cut the "Humble Pie" promo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gGETegp8jI

In the back, Eddie Kingston cuts a promo. He says he feels he helped build this place, and he wants a match with Hallowicked, but instead of that, they give him some kid named Tim Donst. He says Tim's in the wrong place at the wrong time, and he'll have to pay for this company's mistake and Hallowicked's mistake, and he's gonna have a real long night.

Match #6: Eddie Kingston vs. Tim Donst
Really incredible match. Best match from a CHIKARA rookie maybe ever. Kingston just beats the FUCK out of Donst constantly, with huge slaps and chops and headbutts, all while starting shit with the crowd and yelling at Chikarason to give him Hallowicked. Donst can't fight, but he can wrestle amateur style, so he does that. King keeps beating the fuck out of him and he gets up, and really makes himself a fan favorite in one night. King gets more and more upset with this, and they eventually get the biggest pop of the night for a single leg trip by Donst, which is marvelous. Kingston is able to shrug off the flurry though, and he wins with the Backfist to the Future.
***1/2

In the back, the Order of the Neo Solar Temple cuts the greatest promo around a piano as Hydra dances, and UMB promises to do a jig on their GRAVES~! <3

Match #7: Hallowicked/Up in Smoke vs. UltraMantis Black/Crossbones/Hydra
Eddie Kingston comes out to watch. As for the match, it was a little sloppy at key points, and that held it back from being great. Some good comedy and then the Order had a nice control seg. Finishing run was alright, but nothing overly great. Kingston tries to trip Hallowicked, but accidentally gets Hydra and Hallowicked beats Hydra with the Yakuza Kick.
**3/4

Match #8: Chris Hero vs. Lince Dorado

Classic Hero carryjob. Not that Lince is bad or anything, but it's very clearly a Hero match. Hero stalling is amazing as a trademark of his 2007 matches, then great matwork and lucha bumping. Hero has an amazing control segment and what not. Lince is a fine babyface in peril, and has a nice comeback. Lince puts on the CHIKARA Special, AND HERO TAPS OUT! HUGE UPSET AND THE CHIKARA SPECIAL IS HERO'S KRYPTONITE!

CHIKARA Maximum Overdraft
August 5th, 2007
The New Alhambra Arena
Philadelphia, PA

In the back, 2.0 tell a story from 1994 about them going shopping for ice cream, and they got ice cream sandwiches. They made one fatal error, and they underestimated the heat, and the sandwiches melted all over their brand new Chicago Bulls Zubaz shorts. TONIGHT, THE ICE CREAMS WILL GET THEIR JUST DESSERTS!

Match #1: Los Ice Creams [2] vs. 2.0 [1]
Awesome match. Once again, the perfect mix of comedy and actual good tag team wrestling. 2.0 has a fun control segment, and Los Ice Creams have a beautiful hot tag and finishing run. They get Jagged with the La Magistral/Jackknife Pin for the win AND LOS ICE CREAMS HAVE 3 POINTS! LOS ICE CREAMS FEVER IS TAKING OVER!
**3/4

In the back, Eddie Kingston cuts a career promo and in any other year, it'd easily be the promo of the year. But you know, "Prom Night", and all. He says something's been bothering him about wrestling in general, certain CHIKARA guys getting opportunities. He keeps telling himself not to get mad, and says he should be happy for certain CHIKARA guys getting in ROH and FIP, BUT HE'S NOT! BECAUSE THIS BUSINESS IS WHERE YOU HAVE TO LOOK OUT FOR YOURSELF! JIGSAW, AKUMA, AND HALLOWICKED GETTING OPPORTUNITIES THAT SHOULD BE HIS! "I GET THAT THIS BUSINESS DOESN'T OWE ME ANYTHING, BUT I'VE WORKED MY WHOLE LIFE! AND I'VE GOT NOTHING! So I come back to CHIKARA, a promotion that, I don't care what anyone says, I built because me and Blackjack, The Wild Cards, were the first two to break out. WE CARRIED THE CHIKARA NAME ON OUR BACKS TO IWA MID-SOUTH, TO TENNESSE, TO IWC, TO CZW, WENT EVERYWHERE. DO WE GET A THANK YOU? DO I GET MATCHES I WANT? FIST, AKUMA AND ICARUS, THEY GET THE BRISCOES! WHAT DO I GET? NOTHING. I BUILT THIS COMPANY, AND I'M TIRED OF BEING DISRESPECTED. I gotta act professional, you know, you gotta be nice, right? I can't be a punk street kid? THAT'S WHAT I'M GONNA BE FROM NOW ON, BECAUSE THIS COMPANY BROKE MY HEART! This company always had my back when other companies said I had a problem, that I had an attitude problem. But now they turn their backs on him, giving opportunities to people who don't deserve. He doesn't want an outside guy. HEY CHIKARASON, YOU DON'T HAVE TO EMPTY OUT YOUR POCKETS FOR ME! GIVE ME HALLOWICKED! IT WAS ABOUT PROVING WHO THE TOP STUDENT WAS, BUT NOT ANYMORE, BECAUSE HE'S GETTING MY OPPORTUNITIES! AND THEN I GET RIDICULED FOR BEATING THE CRAP OUT OF TIM DONST? DON'T STEP IN THE RING IF YOU'RE NOT PREPARED! THIS IS NOT A GAME, I DO NOT PLAY. THE KID GOT A CONCUSSION BECAUSE HE LIT HIM UP? BECAUSE HE HAD TO PAY DUES? HALF OF YOU PEOPLE WOULDN'T HAVE SURVIVED BACK IN THE DAY. THAT'S WHY HE'S THE LAST OF A DYING BREED. AND TONIGHT, RICOCHET? WRONG PLACE, WRONG TIME. JUST LIKE TIM DONST. His injuries is on your heads, Chikarason and Hallowicked. GIVE ME MY MATCH, I DESERVE IT."

Match #2: Eddie Kingston vs. Ricochet
Awesome match for what it was. King beats the fuck out of Ricochet while again yelling that he wants Hallowicked, and not these kids he keeps fighting. Ricochet is not as sympathetic as Donst, so this doesn't work quite as well. He still looks good though. They cut it off before it can really get going and great though, as King kicks Ricochet in the dick for a blatant DQ.
**3/4

Kingston keeps beating on him, and he pulls out a Hallowicked mask. He puts it on him, and he beats him up even more, before laying him out with the Backfist to the Future. He pulls off the mask and yells to give him Hallowicked, and he leaves with the mask.

Match #3: Shayne Hawke vs. Billy Roc
Hero joins commentary, and he is impressed with Hawke. They actually have some really great matwork and lucha stuff. No9t long enough to really develop, but it was nice. Hawke wins with the Tomahawke.
**1/4

Hawke goes to the back, and FIST meets him at the entrance.

Match #4: Sara Del Rey vs. Daizee Haze [Best of Three Falls]
Pretty easily their best match against each other. They again have a nice power/speed story but with speed being the heel for once. Haze gets a roll up to go 1-0. Del Rey goes nuts with power moves to get 1-1. Haze then targets the knee, and SDR's selling is awesome. Ends a little too soon though, and Del Rey wins with the Royal Butterfly.
**3/4

It is supposed to be The Colony vs. Delirious/Up in Smoke, but instead, Cheech and Cloudy come out as Deliriouscito and Deliriouscitocito! LOS TRES DELIRIOSOS!

Match #5: The Colony vs. Los Tres Deliriosos
SO MUCH FUN. Tons of really really crisp stuff and some great comedy too at the beginning. The Colony starts pulling out a ton of great double and triple teams, and yeah. Big nearfalls. Fire Ant kicks out of a big combination of The Deluxe and Shadows Over Hell, but then Delirious beats him with Chemical Imbalance II.
***

Match #6: La Parkita vs. Payaso del Futuro

This wasn't really great or anything, but it was a fine midget match. La Parkita was clearly drunk and kept hitting on a fat girl at ringside and stumbling around. Pro fucking Wrestling. Payaso's costume is amazing, even though he sucks, as he is HALF-ROBOT HALF-EVIL CLOWN! La Parkita then wins with a roll up.
**

La Parkita then dances with the fat girl and grabs her ass.

Match #7: Chuck Taylor [c] vs. Drake Younger [CHIKARA Young Lions Cup]
This is very good. Chuckie T is in top form with his stooging and bumping, and he takes some crazy bumps. Younger is fine enough. I never thought he warranted the praise he got for his non-deathmatch skills, as he's just generally good, and nothing to really write home about, but in the right situation, he is pretty good. This is the right situation. Awesome Chuckie T control seg, big Drake comeback, etc. Chuck crotches Drake on the top and then yanks him down with an insane Omega Driver.
***

Match #8: The Kings of Wrestling [1] vs. Lince Dorado/El Pantera [1]

Great match, as expected. Hero and Claudio bump around really well for all the lucha spots. It's 2007, so Hero also throws out some amazing stalling and he and Claudio also guide Lince through matwork and are great bases for him. Claudio is Claudio in 2007. Awesome dives from the luchadores and a really good finishing run. El Pantera puts Hero in the CHIKARA Special and Hero AGAIN taps out to it!
***1/4

Match #9: Mike Quackenbush [c] vs. Black Tiger IV [NWA World Junior Heavyweight Championship]

Again, Rocky Romero is BT4. Romero is capable of greatness when someone guides him, and Quack makes him keep it on the mat, so it's pretty awesome. Lots of really well done and hard fought looking matwork. Tiger focuses on the head and neck and Quack's selling is good. He keeps attacking the knee to come back, which makes sense since Quack goes on to win with the Lightning Lock.
***1/4

Match #10: Team F.I.S.T. vs. The Briscoes

This match is very awesome. One of those rare Icarus-based matches where he also manages to deliver big time. Story comes down to the fact that he's the one who has something to prove against the Briscoes, since Akuma has been to ROH and FIP and all those places. Akuma doesn't really care when the Briscoes try to push him around, but Icarus gets very upset. They dominate him early on and treat him like a piece of shit. Akuma takes over and FIST has a great control seg. Briscoes make their comeback and Icarus has to finally survive on his own while Akuma is hurt, and he kicks out of a lot of stuff and counters all the big moves. Akuma is able to get back in and he rolls up Jay with the tights for the win! YEAH, FUCK YOU ROH!

CHIKARA Here Come The International Invaders 2007 Night One
August 17th, 2007
Reading, PA

Match #1: Shane Storm vs. Rahim Ali

Ali is nothing special. This sort of just happens, and Storm wins with That Japanese Move.
*3/4

Match #2: Tim Donst vs. Alex Payne

Donst is now super over after the Kingston match. Also, FUCK YEAH SUGARFOOT THE HEEL. Both men are really inexperienced, but they throw out a lot of good looking stuff and keep it short. Donst gets a quick Abdominal Stretch Cradle to win, and everyone goes NUTS.
**

Match #3: Moscow The Communist Bovine vs. USApe

Just fucking insane to see. Obviously not a great match, but it's a fucking ape and cow fighting for Communist vs. Capitalist bragging rights. I can get not liking other CHIKARA comedy fare, but honestly, fuck you if you can't love this. They are shockingly crisp for dudes in animal costumes animals, and fuck what I said, it's not actually bad at all for like 4 minutes. MOOHAMMED THE TERRORIST COW FROM ISW COMES OUT TO WATCH! HE DISTRACTS MOSCOW AND USAPE ROLLS HIM UP TO WIN! FUCK YEAH AMERICA!

Post-match, MOOHAMMED ATTACKS MOSCOW, BUT USAPE RUNS OUT TO SAVE! USAPE AND MOSCOW EMBRACE!
"This was undoubtedly the greatest representation of the political discourse in the world to ever take place in a professional wrestling ring." - Larry Sweeney

Match #4: Jigsaw vs. Shayne Hawke

Hey, Jigsaw's still alive! Haven't seen him since April. Hawke's bullshit is fantastic and Jigsaw looks great on offense as usual. There's just something missing with him in CHIKARA, I guess. Probably just that he's been on top for like 3 years now and other newer guys like The Colony and Chuck and Los Ice Creams and Ricochet are just more interesting. Not his fault. Hawke gets a HUGE upset with a roll up pulling on the ropes and the pants.
**1/4

Jigsaw is mad, and Hero applauds Hawke from commentary.

In the back, The Olsens cut a promo and Jimmy is mad that they lost to ants last time, so this time, they brought Brodie Lee for backup!

Match #5: The Colony vs. Brodie Lee/The Olsen Twins
Brodie is in his trucker gear now, and is much better at the more simplistic and mean spirited bully heel stuff now. Before, he tried to do stuff that didn't fit his size at all, but now he's a lot smarter. All the ants bump HUGE for him, and also have great offense themselves. Awesome control seg by the heels, then a huge finishing run. Brodie kills Fire Ant with a Big Boot to cut off the Colony Voltron, and then he hits Worker Ant with a Liger Bomb to win.
***

Match #6: Claudio Castagnoli vs. Akira Raijin

The foreigners for this weekend are by far the weakest of all the Invaders shows, except for PAC. Raijin and Brute, who will be in action later, are all really inexperienced and not ready to fight the people they do. Claudio is Claudio, and does what he can though. Claudio has it in hand, but Hero and Sweeney come out. Hero hits Akira with a chain, and Claudio is DQ'd!
**3/4

Hero and Sweeney quickly leave, and Claudio is pissed.

Match #7: PAC vs. Ricochet
Fantastic spotfest. It's only like 10 minutes, and they just do a ton of sensational spots and dives. They hold back a LITTLE bit by not doing a totally fucking balls out insane finishing run, but it's only the midcard, so I sort of applaud their restraint. They would have shockingly great matches in DG in 2010-11, so there. Ricochet wins with the Pop-Up Double Knees, which is named CHOCOLATE RAIN briefly.
***

Match #8: Eddie Kingston vs. Brute Issei

Same deal with the Claudio match, with a great wrestler having to deal with a mediocre guy from Japan. Chikarason is on commentary and says next month, they're going to try having Hallowicked and Kingston in the same building again, to see if they can co-exist. King wins with the Backfist to the Future.
**1/2

Match #9: Chris Hero/Chuck Taylor/Larry Sweeney/Mitch Ryder vs. Lince Dorado/Equinox/Las Chivas

The Chivas are soccer playing goats. They are nothing special. They drag it down, but it's still pretty good otherwise. Equinox is shockingly great here, and all the Lince matchups are very smooth and crisp. Big finishing run that goes on a little long, but ends in a HUGE upset as EQUINOX MAKES HERO TAP TO THE CHIKARA SPECIAL! HERO'S KRYPTONITE STRIKES AGAIN!
**3/4

Match #10: Team F.I.S.T. [c] vs. Los Ice Creams [CHIKARA Campeonatos Des Parejas]

This is shockingly great. Lots of great lucha stuff, and they do a great deal as well based around Los Ice Creams having FIST's numbers. FIST is super aggressive early on to the Ice Creams, and they look great on offense. Akuma beats El Hijo Del Ice Cream with the Yoshi Tonic to go up 1-0. Now that they've actually beaten LIC, FIST gets overconfident again. The crowd is super hot for Los Ice Creams, and it is AMAZING. BIG ICE CREAM JR. HOT TAG! YEAH! LIC pull off the La Magistral/Jackknife Pin combo puts it at 1-1. Great finishing run and horribly, Icarus wins with the Pedigree. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. I get it, but Los Ice Creams had SO much momentum built over the summer of 2007 that it's a little sad to see it.

CHIKARA Here Come The International Invaders 2007 Night Two
August 18th, 2007
Hellertown Star Lanes
Hellertown, PA

In the back, ShaneSaw cuts a promo and Jigsaw says he's back now, and they're getting their second point and they're going to beat FIST for the belts.

Match #1: Jigsaw/Shane Storm [1] vs. The Olsen Twins
Sort of a foregone conclusion, but still a lot of fun. Olsens have a ton of cool double teams and a great control seg. Jig gets in and that's fine enough. Shane beats Colin Olsen with the Air Raid Crash. Team ShaneSaw now has 2 points.
**3/4

Match #2: Brodie Lee vs. Tim Donst

AMAZING Brodie squash. Home of the most insane Big Boot ever: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEKdT12ORO0 Donst goes on to take an amazing beating again and Brodie beats on his knee too, just to be a bully. Liger Bomb ends it.
**1/4

Match #3: UltraMantis Black vs. Soldier Ant

Average match. They do some stuff, and Soldier Ant wins with the TKO.
**1/4

Match #4: Hallowicked vs. Mitch Ryder

Ryder's stalling at the beginning is great, and Hallowicked is awesome on offense as usual. Ryder takes over, and he keeps it basic and it is wonderful. Hallowicked has a good comeback, but it ends a little abruptly when Ryder uses a chain punch for the win.
**3/4

Match #5: Claudio Castagnoli vs. PAC

So hey yeah, this is incredible. Claudio carries him through matwork, and then they do several totally nuts big/little spots. Typical 2007 Claudio, having a fucking career year. Claudio catches PAC in mid-air when he tries the DragonRana, and he crosses the arms before hitting the Ricola Bomb for the win.
***1/2

Match #6: Chris Hero vs. Brute Issei

It is now Hero's turn to get weighed down with one of these fucks. He does what he can, but again, Issei is awful. Hero wins with a Flying Double Stomp to the gut.
**1/2

Match #7: Lince Dorado vs. Shayne Hawke

Lince continues to be really smooth and crisp with all his stuff, and Hawke is a lot of fun again. Good control seg, and Lince has some neat offense on his comeback. Some cool spots too. A ref bump happens, and Mitch Ryder runs out to hit Lince with a Piledriver. Hawker covers to win!
**3/4

Ryder gets on the mic and says Lince wasn't ready for that because Piledrivers are illegal in Mexico, BUT THIS AIN'T MEXICO! He says he can't deport Lince like he wants, but he can put him out of wrestling and humiliate him. He says he's going to beat him at the luchadors' own game and tells him to find 7 other hoochadores to fight he and his team, the Kings of Wrestling! Shayne asks if he can be the eight man on the team, and Ryder says okay! FUCK YEAH!

Match #8: Mike Quackenbush [c] vs. Akira Raijin [NWA World Light Heavyweight Championship]
Same deal as before, one of the top guys has to carry a rookie. Raijin is the better of the two though, so Quack gets a good deal out of him. Quack wins with the Lightning Lock again, now turning it into sort of a Brock Lock as well.
**3/4

Match #9: Team F.I.S.T. vs. Las Chivas

The Chivas are horrible, and they drag FIST down a lot. Lots of painfully sloppy arm drags and other lucha staples. FIST has a good control seg and what not, but it is not nearly long enough compared to the horrible Chivas offense. They refuse to pin them and keep beating on them, so they get DQ'd as a result.
**

In the back, Chuck Taylor cuts a promo. He says he is the happiest person alive, because Ricochet will never be in CHIKARA again after tonight, and he's glad he agreed to put up his career against his Cup, and says if the third time wasn't the charm, the fourth time sure as hell won't be.

Match #10: Chuck Taylor [c] vs. Ricochet [CHIKARA Young Lions Cup vs. Ricochet's Career]
This is probably their best match yet. They have a great crowd and base it around what they're both great at, being Chuck's heeling and Ricochet's insane bumping and flips and shit. In addition to being a great heel when controlling it, Chuck also has some really nasty looking offense. Some awesome counters in the final minutes and big nearfalls and yeah. Ricochet is able to continually avoid the Omega Driver, so when the ref is not looking, Chuck reverses an O'Connor Roll into one of his own. He punches Ricochet in the balls and then gets the three count off the roll up to win.

CHIKARA Cibernetico & Robin
September 22nd, 2007
The New Alhambra Arena
Philadelphia, PA

Match #1: Brodie Lee vs. Mike Stevens

Really good squash from Brodie again. DAS BOOT. Liger Bomb. The end.
**

Match #2: Daizee Haze vs. Candice LaRae

Sort of a filler match. Not sure why this is here. Not bad or anything, but not really anything special. Haze wins with the cheating.
*1/2

Match #3: Incoherence [2] vs. UltraMantis Black/Hydra [1]

This was very good, and really turns the show around. Some awesome comedy with Hydra and Delirious, and then the Order had a pretty great control segment as well. Doesn't go on long enough to really become great, but it was very very good. Big Hallowicked hot tag and finishing run and he hits Hydra with the Yakuza Kick, and Incoherence has 3 points now!
**3/4

Match #4: Mike Quackenbush vs. Tim Donst

Really great for what it was, the student vs. teacher match. Makes sense that it's not that long, since Donst has only been wrestling regularly for a few months now, and Quack is currently the Ace of the company, as well as his trainer. Donst sticks to amateur stuff and Quack does more lucha based matwork. Quack gets more vicious when bested once, and works on the arm. Quack wins with the CHIKARA Special.
***

Match #5: Up in Smoke vs. The Olsen Twins

They're usually great together, but this is AMAZING. Really great lucha early on from both teams, AND SHIT GETS SERIOUS AFTER A TOPE SUICIDA INTO A TORNADO DDT FROM JIMMY TO CHEECH HOLY SHIT! They isolate Cloudy and have some really great double teams. Cheech gets back in, and his selling of the head and neck is awesome. The Olsens miscommunicate though, and Up in Smoke is able to hit Jimmy with the Thunder and Lightning for the win.
***3/4

Match #6: Super Xtremo vs. Kris Chambers

I have no idea why this is on the card. This and Haze/Candice are getting in the way of what could have been CHIKARA's best show ever, but whatever, it's done now. Xtremo wins.
**

Match #7: Jigsaw/Shane Storm [2] vs. The Osirian Portal

This is the debut of Amasis, and the debut of the Portal as a team. Ophidian debuted back at Showdown in Crisisland, beating Uno. They looked pretty good for guys with really limited experience, and were at the very least more impressive than Storm. Jig and Storm have miscommunication problems. Good finishing run and in a HUGE upset, Ophidian beats Storm with the Ophidian Death Grip, and ShaneSaw goes back to 0!
**3/4

Jigsaw is very very mad with Storm after the match, and he walks out on him.

Match #8: Eddie Kingston/Joker/Sabian vs. The Colony
Damn shame that they didn't do more with this feud in 2007, but this is the blowoff, and it is great. The ants come in hot, so Sabian fakes a knee injury so Joker has the opportunity to hit a huge Lariat to take over. BLK-OUT are total pricks and bullies here, especially Kingston, and it's pretty great. They take cheap shots and tear masks and shit. Awesome finishing run of triple teams and nearfalls, and it really feels like after getting killed, The Colony is earning their offense. Fire Ant hits Joker with the Beach Break for 3. Joker decides to be a piece of shit and go into business for himself by kicking out right at 3. Really shitty thing to do, as they've been building to them getting a big clean win all year, and now it comes off as a fluke. Maybe a year ago, protecting your reputation by not cleanly losing to ants isn't as bad, but it's really obvious that The Colony are great wrestlers by now. Fuck Joker.
***1/2

Match #9: Mitch Ryder/Chris Hero/Claudio Castagnoli/Team F.I.S.T./Chuck Taylor/Larry Sweeney/Shayne Hawke vs. Lince Dorado/Los Ice Creams/Equinox/Magno/Incognito/Las Chivas [TORNEO CIBERNETICO]

I haven't seen the 2010 or 2011 Ciberneticos as I wasn't into CHIKARA after late 2009, but this is the worst of all the Ciberneticos I have seen. It's not outright bad at all. I actually wouldn't even object to it being called great, as the rating will indicate. Las Chivas, Magno, and Incognito kind of blow though, so that's half of the face team that sucks. The heels are all pretty great, and they mostly carry the faces. Los Ice Creams and Lince deliver big time. It comes down to Lince vs. Mitch, Hero, and Claudio. Lince cannot help but be beaten obviously, and Ryder does it with the Piledriver. Cibernetico rules say there can only be one winner, SO CLAUDIO BLINDSIDES RYDER! RICOLA BOMB! AND IT'S DOWN TO CLAUDIO AND HERO! CLAUDIO PUTS ON THE CHIKARA SPECIAL, AND HERO TAPS OUT AGAIN! CLAUDIO WINS!
***

This is basically the end of the Kings of Wrestling as a stable. Claudio is given his freedom as a result, and they form into the factions of Team FIST/Chuck Taylor and Sweeney/Ryder/Hawke within the next few months.

CHIKARA Bruised
October 26th, 2007
Reading, PA

In the back, Eddie Kingston goes up to Leonard F. Chikarason and Chikarason says he's tired of King calling him and messing around with his cards, so he's giving him one shot. He books him vs. Hallowicked for November 18th, and says if he can't make the show or acts up between now and then, the match is off and he's not getting it again. He leaves, and King tells the camera to stay here, and he'll go right into his thing for tonight. He says Tim Donst wants a rematch and the thing about revenge, is that you're digging two graves, and if he's getting taken down, he's taking everyone down with him.

Match #1: UltraMantis Black/Hydra/Crossbones vs. Dragon Dragon/USApe/Moscow The Communist Bovine
This was incredible. Just a ton of fun. Comedy and good wrestling. Dragon Dragon does Dragon Kicks, a Dragon Screw, and Danielson's crucifix elbows. USApe has a shockingly great dive, and Moscow's Russian Sickle is amazing. The Order all performed well too, especially Crossbones, who again punched the cow right in the face. Mantis and Crossbones slammed Hydra down onto USApe for the win.
**3/4

Match #2: Jigsaw vs. Dragon Yuki

Ugh, really? He's invited back? This is whatever. They had a match and Jigsaw wins with a Superkick.
**

Match #3: Up in Smoke [1] vs. The Osirian Portal [1]

This is great once again. Classic tag formula put to use by a really talented young heel team and maybe the best pure babyface tag team on the indies. Arguably in the world, since in late 2007, Londrick is basically done. They have a big awesome finishing run that ends at the perfect length, and Up in Smoke gets their second point with Thunder and Lightning.
***

Match #4: The Colony vs. Brodie Lee/The Olsen Twins

Better than the first match. The first match was really cool and established Brodie as a difference maker. Here, it's based around Brodie always turning the tide and the Colony using triple teams and trickery to try and neutralize him. Lots of awesome Colony offense early on. The heels take over, and hey yeah, it's great. Big finishing run, and Fire Ant manages to hold Brodie back in the corner as Worker rolls up Colin to win.
***

Match #5: Claudio Castagnoli vs. Chuck Taylor

Claudio is running through the former Kings of Wrestling to get to Hero. This is also great! It's not outright blowaway great, like it would be if they had a 15 minute main event, but it's more based on Chuck being a chickenshit heel and Claudio being Claudio. Lots of big bumping and yeah. Claudio gets the Ricola Bomb for the win.
***

In the back, Ryder says he's going to make Equinox an example tonight for when he finally gets Lindsay Dorado.

Match #6: Mitch Ryder vs. Equinox
Really good Ryder squash. Equinox had some offense, and it was good, but this was mostly Ryder. Piledriver ends it.
**1/4

Match #7: Mike Quackenbush vs. Lince Dorado

This is more of an angle than anything, but it was good while it lasted. Like 5 minutes or so of awesome lucha and matwork before Mitch Ryder comes out and low blows Quack for a DQ.
**1/4

Chuck Taylor comes out with handcuffs, and he cuffs Quack to the ropes, so he can't save. They then beat down on Lince with a belt, and it is great. Ryder gets on the mic and says this is the people's fault for cheering for Lince Dorado instead of telling him to go back home.

Match #8: Eddie Kingston vs. Tim Donst
This is also great! Obviously it's not the same as the first match, since Donst is well established here, but it was still fucking awesome. King delivers a completely insane headbutt. Donst also fires back more this time. Brutal Kingston strikes, big fiery Donst comebacks. Great stuff. Kingston wins with the Backfist to the Future.
***1/2

FIST comes out for the main event, and Akuma is on crutches. Icarus says they have to delay the title match until Akuma is healed, but Leonard Chikarason makes Chuck Taylor substitute for Akuma in the match (never saying it's a title match), which is really unfair to do with no prior notification. Especially when Chuck has already wrestled.

Match #9: Chuck Taylor/Icarus [c] vs. Incoherence [CHIKARA Campeonatos Des Parejas]
This is good and all, but not great. Taylor and Icarus are a good team, but they are less of an interesting team than FIST. Akuma and Icarus have a great dynamic of sadistic asskicker and cheapshotting heel, but Icarus and Chuck are both little pieces of shit. Delirious' shtick does not play as well in three fall matches. Icarus rolls up Wicked with the tights to go up 1-0. Icarus thinks they've won, but the belts are on the line, which Chikarason neglected to say. Good, not great, second fall. Delirious beats Chuck with Chemical Imbalance II to go 1-1. Finishing run was pretty good. Akuma accidentally hits Icarus with his crutch and Hallowicked wins the belts with the Yakuza Kick.

CHIKARA New Star Navigation
October 27th, 2007
The Barnesville Thunderdome
Barnesville, PA

The theme of the show is new guys vs. experienced guys, and they have a random drawing to determine the matches:

Crossbones vs. Soldier Ant
Brodie Lee vs. Worker Ant
Incoherence vs. The Osirian Portal
Chuck Taylor vs. someone named Helios
Mitch Ryder vs. Lince Dorado!

Match #1: Jigsaw/Hydra vs. Shane Storm/UltraMantis Black [Parejas Incrediblas!]
Very enjoyable match. The usual partners are hesitant to fight, but they eventually do. Jigsaw is the most willing to fight his partner. Mantis is mad at Hydra outluchaing him, and demands the Fingerpoke of Doom, but Jig stops it. Storm is hesitant to hit Jig at the end, but Jigsaw just destroys him with a Superkick to win.
**1/2

In the back, Crossbones says he's going to squash Soldier Ant like the bag that he is and then he'll wipe his foot off, because he is polite.

Match #2: Soldier Ant vs. Crossbones
This is good enough for 6 minutes. Not a ton to this, Crossbones dominates, and then Soldier has a flurry, and he wins. Soldier took huge bumps and had a big comeback though, and looked great. Diving Saluting Headbutt gets the win for the G.I.ant.
**1/2

Match #3: Icarus vs. Tim Donst

Shockingly great. Icarus just abuses the fuck out of Donst. Brutal chops and a totally insane headbutt. Super loud and violent looking, and maybe the best headbutt of 2007. He also takes him to the floor AND THROWS HIM THROUGH THE WALL OF THE BUILDING! They do more stuff, and Donst wins with the CHIKARA Special.
***

Match #4: Brodie Lee vs. Worker Ant

Only 3 minutes, but pretty great for what it was. Brodie's offense looks killer, and they have some cool big/little spots. Brodie gets the kill with the Yakuza Kick and then the Liger Bomb.
**1/4

Match #5: Incoherence vs. The Osirian Portal

This was very good as well. Not quite great, but whatever. The Portal have a good control seg against the champs, and Hallowicked had a great hot tag as usual. Some nice nearfalls in the final moments and Hallowicked beats Ophidian with the Graveyard Smash.
**3/4

Chuck Taylor comes out for his title defense against the new guy, Helios, AND IT'S VERY CLEARLY RICOCHET UNDER A MASK! OH SHIT!

Match #6: Chuck Taylor [c] vs. Helios [CHIKARA Young Lions Cup]
This is Chuck vs. Ricochet again, so it ruled. Chuck keeps yelling that it's Ricochet, but he can't prove it without being DQ'd and losing the belt. Amazing. Helios bumps well as usual, and Chuckie T is Chuckie T. He keeps yelling shit like "RICOCHET USED THAT MOVE TOO! I WONDER WHY?!" Helios hits the Chocolate Rain, and then the Standing SSP to win the Cup!
***

This seems like it's the start of a new part of the feud, but it's just Ricochet being rebranded as a CHIKARA guy, as Quack annoyingly does to a lot of people.

Match #7: Fire Ant vs. Dragon Yuki
Fire does what he can with this rube, and bumps around big and has awesome offense. He wins with a Victory Roll.
**

Match #8: Claudio Castagnoli vs. Larry Sweeney

Another great Claudio match. Same idea as vs. Chuck, with the heel stalling and bumping around for most of it, before taking over with cheating. Claudio makes the big comeback, they do things, and the Ricola Bomb is the end of the match.
***

Match #9: Up in Smoke [2] vs. The Olsen Twins

Another great match between them, although not as great as the Philadelphia match. Cheech and Cloudy throw out a lot of awesome double teams, and then the Olsens target the head and neck of Cheech that they injured in Philly to take over. Awesome finishing run once again, and the Olsens get a lot more offense here. Cloudy gets a flying sunset flip into a jackknife pin on Colin for the win, and Up in Smoke again has 3 points!
***1/4

Match #10: Lince Dorado vs. Mitch Ryder

This is short and not really much, but it's fine enough for 5 minutes. Ryder controls most of it, and Lince again beats him with a roll up.
**1/4

Ryder is mad post-match, and says he wants one more match and he wants Lince's mask! Lince, in a very American accent, blowing his gimmick, says he wants Ryder's hair on the line too, and they agree to a Hair vs. Mask match.

CHIKARA The Battle of Who Could Care Less
November 16th, 2007
Reading, PA

Match #1: Mike Quackenbush/The Colony vs. Team F.I.S.T./The Osirian Portal

Really really fun opening match. They obviously didn't go crazy, since it's the first match, but they had a lot of super crisp lucha and matwork. Big big finishing runs of dives and Colony offense, and Fire Ant counters the Ophidian Death Grip into the Beach Break for the win.
***

In the back, Chuck Taylor cuts a promo. He says he dominated CHIKARA in 2007, but he was robbed last month by that stupid ugly little rat Ricochet, but he's turning it around this weekend, and he's going to bring about CHIKARMAGEDDON.

Match #2: Chuck Taylor vs. Shane Storm
This was fine enough. Obviously, it's a post-peak Shane Storm match not attached to any greater issue, so it's not going to be great. Chuck is entertaining and has a decent finishing run. Awful Waffle does the deal and Chuckie T wins again.
**1/2

Match #3: Sara Del Rey vs. Portia Perez

Good little SDR showcase. Lots of huge kicks and throws. Royal Butterfly gets the win.
**

Match #4: Brodie Lee vs. Passion Hasegawa

Passion is a small Japanese man working a vaguely effeminate gimmick. I think I remember him having some fun matches on this weekend, but on this night, he is Brodie Fodder. Brodie delivers awesome power offense and strikes again. Liger Bomb ends it.
**1/4

Match #5: Lince Dorado/El Pantera [2] vs. The Olsen Twins

If the luchadores get this win, they get the next title shot at Incoherence, after Up in Smoke, who have a shot on the next show. Good Olsens control seg again, but this just doesn't click enough to be great. Pantera gets a Tiger Driver for the win, and they now also have 3 points!
**3/4

In the back, UMB cuts a promo and tells MIYAWAKI that he can be the Order's emissary to the Orient, or he will follow him back to his dojo and kill him, and he will not stop there, for he will also destroy his nation's whaling industry, so he must either join or die!

Match #6: MIYAWAKI vs. UltraMantis Black
Good stuff. More to establish MIYAWAKI leading into his big singles match on the next night, and Mantis does an awesome job selling and bumping for him. MIYAWAKI throws amazing strikes. MIYAWAKI wins with a Reverse DDT.
**1/2

Match #7: Jigsaw/Los Ice Creams vs. Larry Sweeney/Mitch Ryder/Robbie Ellis

Lots of fun here. Los Ice Creams and Ellis deliver the comedy, and everyone but Ellis can actually go at real wrestling, so it was the best of both worlds in CHIKARA. Awesome control seg from the Fabulous Three, and then the Ice Creams brought a great hot tag. Ryder beats one of them with the Piledriver.
***

Match #8: Chris Hero/Shayne Hawke vs. Claudio Castagnoli/Equinox

Not blowaway great, but as build for Hero/Claudio in two days, it really did a great job. Hero keeps avoiding Claudio and treating Equinox like shit. Hawke, in turn, gets abused by Claudio. Equinox is shockingly crisp once again, and Claudio finally gets in. He takes out Hawke, AND EQUINOX GETS HERO WITH A BACKSLIDE TO BEAT HIM AGAIN HOLY SHIT!
***

Hero attacks him post-match, and he starts ripping his mask off. Security tries to save him, but Hero throws them all out. Chikarason gets on the mic and says to stop, and Hero refuses. Chikarason says he's fired if he rips the mask off, so Hero says he quits and goes back to it! Chikarason tells him to stop and says they can talk about this. He says tomorrow night, Hero has Equinox in a singles match, and if he wins, Equinox has to unmask himself, and Hero gets off of him. He goes over to Chikarason and agrees, and security helps Equinox out of the ring. Chikarason then says if he loses, then he has to shave his head! HAIR VS. MASK FUCK YEAH!

Match #9: Helios [c] vs. Hydra [CHIKARA Young Lions Cup]
Good showcase for the new champion. Hydra had some good comedy, but the outcome was never really in doubt. Standing SSP does it.
**

Match #10: Eddie Kingston/Joker/Sabian vs. Incoherence/Tim Donst

KINGSTON AND HALLOWICKED FINALLY FIGHT! FUCK YEAH! Great primer for their singles match in two nights. Some nice lucha early on, and then BLK-OUT isolates Donst. He takes one hell of a beating again. Lots of great bullying and double/triple-teams from BLK-OUT. Hallowicked and Delirious get great hot tags, and the finishing run is quite good. Not as great as the control seg, but hey. King is too focused on getting at Hallowicked, AND DONST ROLLS HIM UP FOR THE HUGE UPSET! YEAH!

CHIKARA The Sordid Perils of Everyday Existence
November 17th, 2007
Hellertown Star Lanes
Hellertown, PA

In the back, Shayne Hawke says he likes soldiers and ants, as a George Bush supporter who used to have an ant farm, but he hates Soldier Ant's new theme song, "Soulja Boy Tell Em", and demands to know what Superman That Robocop means, and tonight, he says, YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU are going down.

Match #1: Soldier Ant vs. Shayne Hawke
Fun opener. Much comedy and shtick. Good brief control seg, and Soldier makes his comeback and wins with the TKO.
**1/2

Match #2: Shane Storm vs. Hydra w/ UltraMantis Black

This is more here as part of a huge larger angle than to give a good match or anything. They do stuff for a little, and when they are on the top rope, Mantis tries to put a curse on Storm, but it ends up knocking Hydra off the top, and Storm takes the pin to win. How convenient.
**

Match #3: The Osirian Portal vs. Lince Dorado/El Pantera [3]

Hero and Ryder are on commentary. This is pretty again, but again not quite great. Some nice lucha stuff early on, and then the Portal have a good control seg. Pantera drags down the finishing run a lot, since it's based on athletic stuff and he can't keep up with the younger guys in terms of spots. Ryder sneaks down to ringside and distracts Lince, so Ophidian rolls him up to win, and the luchadores go back down to 0!
**3/4

Match #4: Chuck Taylor vs. Passion Hasegawa

Passion gets to show off now, and is a pretty solid lucha flavored slant eye. Dancing, stalling, and then lots of lucha. They do some stuff and it's fine, but not super impressive or anything. Chuck wins with the Awful Waffle.
**3/4

Match #5: Claudio Castagnoli vs. MIYAWAKI
Super fun slugfest. They have good matwork early on, and then they start dropping bombs. It basically boils down to Claudio having a larger offensive arsenal than MIYAWAKI. Once Claudio survived MIYAWAKI's big stuff, he didn't have any more big level stuff to drop on him, while Claudio had more. He hits a Flying European Uppercut and the Ricola Bomb to win.
***

Match #6: Mike Quackenbush/Tim Donst/Super Smash Bros. vs. Team F.I.S.T./Mitch Ryder/Robbie Ellis

This was pretty good. Stupefied debuts here as Uno's partner, and they have a lot of awesome double teams. Quack is still recovering from the nasty concussion in the 2007 TPI, so he's not in this a lot, which hurts it a little, since he's usually the driving force behind these. Still, really fun. They do a lot of stuff and Ryder low blows Uno and hits the Piledriver to win.
**3/4

Match #7: Helios [c] vs. Fire Ant [CHIKARA Young Lions Cup]

Awesome spotfest sprint, but far too short. Both men take huge bumps and have really cool offense. They have some decent matwork too, but yeah, this is mostly about neat moves. Helios hits the Flying Double Knees and the Standing SSP to win.
**3/4

Match #8: Chris Hero vs. Equinox [HAIR VS. MASK]

This is really fucking great. So fucking great. Perfect mix of playing on past matches, big vs. little, striking vs. lucha, and top heel vs. underdog. Equinox even knows his wins were flukes and only because of the CHIKARA Special, so he tries a flurry of roll ups early on. He gets caught and destroyed though. He gets some pockets of offense by using lucha stuff on the floor to send Hero into the chairs and wall and floor, which is a great underdog tactic. Hero's trying to humiliate him, ripping the mask, refusing to cover, etc., but Equinox just wants to escape, since he didn't even want this match. Big finishing run, and Equinox puts on his best performance ever, easily. Hero kicks out of the backslide now, BUT EQUINOX GETS THE CHIKARA SPECIAL AGAIN! HERO IS ABLE TO GET OUT THOUGH! HERO KNOWS THE COUNTER NOW! Quack is in shock on commentary, AND HERO GETS HIM DOWN, WAVES TO QUACK, AND PUTS ON THE CHIKARA SPECIAL! HERO KNOWS THE CHIKARA SPECIAL! Quack flips out now, asking how the hell he knows that, and Equinox taps.
****1/4

Hero now knowing the CHIKARA Special should have kicked off another chapter of Hero vs. Quackenbush, but unfortunately, this is Hero's swan song in CHIKARA as he's gone by the beginning of 2008 to focus more on PWG and international dates, and the CHIKARA Special storyline got adopted into another thing.

Hero gets on the mic and berates Equinox for losing, and demands he takes off his mask. He takes off the mask with his face down on the mat, and Hero takes the mask from him. He finally lifts his head up, AND OH MY GOD, HE'S NOT MEXICAN, HE'S JUST A WHITE DUDE! Hero says he remembers him, and says Quack probably does too, and Quack affirms this on commentary. He says he had a hunch and that's why he wanted this mask. He says this guy came to the Wrestle Factory to improve his skills, but he started missing practices, and he just stopped showing up. He says this is a liar and a fraud, and he pretended to be a luchadore for the last two and a half years. He says he wasn't good enough to make it the right way, so he bought a mask and an outfit, so he pretended to be a luchadore when he's just a white kid who can't jump. Hero leaves with the mask.

The unmasked Equinox tries to leave to the back after getting a standing ovation for that match, BUT THE COLONY, SHANE STORM, AND LINCE DORADO COME OUT FROM THE CURTAIN! FIRE ANT THROWS HIS LUGGAGE AT HIM, AND THEY POINT AT THE BACK DOOR! He walks out the back door with his things, and this is awesome.

Match #9: Incoherence [c] vs. Up in Smoke [CHIKARA Campeonatos Des Parejas]
Up in Smoke delivers AGAIN. They begin the match as Incoherencito, and they have some great comedy in the first fall. The first fall is in fact all comedy, which is a first, and is pretty great. Delirious freaking out at how well Deliriouscito imitates him is fantastic. Hallowicked vs. Hallowickedcito is less insane, but still pretty great. Hallowicked rolls up Hallowickedcito to go up 1-0. The two Deliriouses accidentally run to the back at the bell, and the Hallowickeds follow. They come back out, and Up in Smoke has arrived! Incoherence has a pretty good control seg on Cloudy, and Cheech's hot tag is great. He beats Delirious with The Deluxe to make it 1-1. Big awesome finishing run of double teams and nearfalls. Hallowicked beats Cheech with the Graveyard Smash to retain. Disappointing result.
