WWF Champion: Hulk Hogan, Since 1/23/1984 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPION CURRENTLY WWF Intercontinental Champion: Greg Valentine, Since 9/24/1984 WWF Tag Team Champions: The Iron Sheik/Nikolai Volkoff, Since 3/31/1985 WWF Championship Wrestling June 29th, 1985 Poughkeepsie, NY Match #1: Tito Santana/The Junkyard Dog vs. Rick Hunter/AJ Petrucci Tito carries it again, and JYD continues to leech off of him. Fuck you, JYD. He wins with the Slam. *1/2 WWF UPDATE: -Recap of the $25,000 bounty on Orndorff's head Match #2: Terry Funk vs. Aldo Marino TERRY GODDAMNED FUNK. After the bell rings, he hands his jacket and hat to the attendant, but when he smiles, FUNK PULLS HIM INTO THE RING AND STARTS BEATING THE SHIT OUT OF HIM! AMAZING! Funk throws him out and then mauls the jobber. Nasty punches. Spinning Toe Hold ends the match. ** GENE INTERVIEWS: -He says the next Boston show is the KING OF THE RING -This wasn't taped ![]() -Hogan comes in and his challenger is Nikolai. He says this is the biggest event in the history of Boston, and he's the champion and he knew he'd finally have to fight Nikolai. He says he stands for everything they don't believe in, brother. Match #3: The Killer Bees vs. Steve Lombardi & Dave Barbie I'm all for B. Brian Blair getting featured more. Never seen Brunzell, but he looks fine here. Lots of great matwork from Blair, who is clearly the better man. Brunzell wins with a Sleeper. ** GENE INTERVIEWS: -JYD says he'll be king -Never Match #4: Don Muraco w/ Mr. Fuji vs. Rick McGraw Good Muraco squash. He takes a few great bumps too when McGraw gets in offense, but Muraco cuts him off with a karate thrust, and he wins with the Tombstone. ** It is time for Piper's Pit, and Roddy is back. He brings Hillbilly Jim on his guest. He says he'll keep it simple for him, and he asks about his leg. He says maybe he should be a man and either wrestle again or admit he's not cut out for this. He says he'll take care of things and he introduces his Uncle Elmer. Match #5: Ricky Steamboat vs. The Axe Axe tries to use strikes, so this is more about Ricky throwing chops and other strikes than the squash match armwork. Thus, it is a great squash. He wins with a Flying Crossbody. ** Match #6: The US Express w/ Capt. Lou Albano vs. Terry Gibbs/Rene Goulet Usual USX squash. Rotundo gets the win with the Airplane Spin. *1/2 |

Greg Valentine [c] vs. Tito Santana [WWF Intercontinental Championship - Steel Cage Match], Baltimore (July 6th) A cage match is the absolute perfect way to end this feud, having been marred by count outs during both mens' reigns and interference as well. This is mostly a really awesome slugfest. Tons of super violent punches and elbows. The struggles near the door had a great sense of desperation too. Tito is climbing down, but Greg goes to the door. It's opened and Tito is near the corner, so he swings his legs and kicks it back into Greg's face! Tito then drops down to regain the belt. ***1/4 |

Lots of nasty strikes and throws. They win with the Rocket Launcher Diving Headbutt. ** WWF UPDATE: -Recap of the Piper/Orndorff stuff Match #2: King Kong Bundy w/ Jimmy Hart vs. Sal Gee Another fun squash. ABUSE THAT FAT. Avalanche and Big Splash gets the win. *1/4 PIECE OF SHIT FREDDIE INTERVIEWS: -More KOTR stuff Match #3: Uncle Elmer w/ Hillbilly Jim vs. AJ Petruzzi Elmer is awful. He wins with a shitty Legdrop. TNA Victory Road 2004, almost Match #4: The Dream Team w/ Jimmy Hart & Johnny Valiant vs. Paul Roma/Jose Luis Rivera More decent than great, due to Brutus being in this too much in comparison to Greg. Brutus gets a High Knee to win. *1/2 It is time for Piper's Pit, and he brings on Terry Funk. He says he's a jealous man, because people here make more money than him! He's jealous of him too for the same reason, and Piper says that's because they fined him unfairly. Piper shows the clip of him killing the attendant. He says he hates the WWF and he hates Hulk Hogan more than he hates God, and he wants to murder rock and roll, and he starts throwing shit and Roddy says he loves him. Match #5: Randy Savage vs. Aldo Marino AWESOME Savage squash. Nasty offense, etc. Great intensity and a snap on everything. They keep talking about how Savage is a free agent, and Heenan, Mr. Fuji, Jimmy Hart, and Johnny Valiant all come out to try and watch. He wins with the Flying Elbow. ** The managers all try to talk to him as he leaves. Match #6: Ricky Steamboat vs. Don Muraco w/ Mr. Fuji They get 5 minutes, and this is clearly the TV MOTY so far. Not any competition really, but still. Some really nice matwork between them. Muraco tries to use karate, but Steamboat is much better at it, upsetting Muraco. Lots of awesome chops back and forth, and when Steamboat goes up top for the finish, Muraco rolls out and leaves with Fuji, so Ricky wins by count out. **1/4 |

Orndorff destroys him, and he wins with the Piledriver. *3/4 Paul throws him out to the floor, and then challenges Heenan to do it himself, but he leaves. TONIGHT: Foreigners vs. USX for the tag titles! WWF UPDATE: -Highlights of Randy Savage -Lord Al talks about how every manager wants him Match #2: Pedro Morales/Lanny Poffo vs. JA Rizzo/Barry O Pedro is awful and works most of this. Boston Crab ends it. 1/2* JACK REYNOLDS INTERVIEWS: -He announces Tito's title win -He announces Foreigners/USX in a tornado tag and Muraco/Andre for the next show -Blassie comes in and says his men will win because this will be a fight, which is something those pretty boy greenhorns can't do Match #3: The Missing Link w/ Bobby Heenan vs. Jim Young ALL HEADBUTTS ALL THE TIME! FUCK YEAH! ** JACK INTERVIEWS: -Providence, RI show ads? -Fuck thism these aren't even getting taped Match #4: George Steele w/ Capt. Lou Albano vs. Jerry Adams Acceptable Animal squash. Flying Hammerlock does the deal. THE DEAL IS GONE, DINO WINWOOD. * Steele then eats the turnbuckle. It is time for Piper's Pit, and he introduces Randy Savage as his guest. He says he's on Piper's Pit, live and in living color, yeah. He says Hulkamania is dead, and Macho Madness is gonna spread, yeah. Piper goes over how every manager wants him, and asks him what it's like to be the Macho Man. He lets Piper wear one of his robes and Savage says there's gonna be some changes, yeah. DOING THE THING. Match #5: Terry Funk vs. Mario Mancini Another awesome Funk squash. Spinning Toe Hold gets the win. ** Match #6: The Iron Sheik/Nikolai Volkoff [c] w/ Freddie Blassie vs. The US Express w/ Capt. Lou Albano [WWF Tag Team Championship] Only 3-4 minutes, but very fun. Lots of energetic Barry offense. Rotundo cradles Sheik, but behind the ref's back, Nikolai rolls Sheik on top. Barry reverses that, and then cuts Nikolai off, and the US Express regains the titles! ** |

Paul Orndorff vs. Roddy Piper, MSG (July 13th) This was awesome. My first instinct is to say it's a pure fight, but that invokes images of a Necro match or Lawler vs. Buzz or something where it's just nasty brawling. This is two guys who are trained with use of holds and pure wrestling in a match with guys they fucking hate. So you get angry matwrestling at points, with segments of brawling because Paul wants to kill Piper. It's pretty great. Great chaotic vibe, and after 9 minutes, Orton comes out and hits Paul with the cast for the DQ. *** They bloody Orndorff and beat up on him for a while, before The British Bulldogs run out to fight them off. |

WWF Champion: Hulk Hogan, Since 1/23/1984 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPION CURRENTLY WWF Intercontinental Champion: Tito Santana, Since 7/6/1985 WWF Tag Team Champions: The US Express, Since 7/13/1985 WWF Championship Wrestling July 20th, 1985 Poughkeepsie, NY Match #1: The Killer Bees vs. Steve Lombardi/Ron Shaw I loathe the Bees' new bee stripe trunks. Decent squash. More focus on the arm and less on cool stuff. Blair works the arm fine, but Brunzell is kind of average at it. During the match, Vince talks about a Manager of the Year poll that's going on now, and says due to a great number of Arabic and Russian votes, Freddie Blassie is currently winning. That's outsanding. Anyways, Blair wins with the Seated Senton off the top. They have to get a better finish than that. *3/4 WWF UPDATE: -Clips air of Tito regaining the belt as Lord Al recaps it Match #2: Adrian Adonis w/ Bobby Heenan vs. Gary Starr FUCK YEAH ADONIS! Although he's much less awesome when Dick Murdoch isn't there to do most of the brutal work. He's still a fine wrestler and all, but whatever. Adonis wins with the Sleeper while grinding his knuckles into the jobber's temple. *3/4 FUCKING FREDDIE INTERVIEWS: -Don Muraco comes on and says he's now the King of the Ring, and he calls himself the Eliminator for all the people he's put out. He says now Mr. Fuji will don his tights, and they're going to destroy Ricky Steamboat and JYD. Match #3: Uncle Elmer w/ Hillbilly Jim vs. Doc Butler Well, this sucked. Ford's WCW HORRIBLE INSOLENT PIECE OF SHIT FREDDIE INTERVIEWS: -Ricky Steamboat comes on and says he knows Muraco wants him after he embarrassed him on TV, and JYD said he'd have his back whenever things went down, and it looks like Boston is where things are going to happen. Match #4: Terry Funk vs. Jose Luis Rivera Another wonderful Funk squash. JLR was solid again, and took an awesome Funk mauling. Funk wins with the Sleeper. ** It is time for Piper's Pit, and he brings on Capt. Lou Albano. They insult his tag team again, and he says it's his 15th title and he might be the greatest manager of all time. Piper says he might also be the biggest pig he's ever seen and flicks his stupid rubber bands. He yells at him to get his hands off of him, and Piper asks just what he's going to do about it. Windham and Rotunda rush on the set, and Piper and Ace back off. They air the last several minutes of the Tito/Greg title switch. Match #5: Ricky Steamboat vs. Don Muraco w/ Mr. Fuji This only goes two and a half minutes, but it is a lot of fun. Steamboat gets a lot of offense in, until Muraco gets a low blow for the blatant DQ. ** He takes the belt off of Ricky's karate gi, AND HE HANGS STEAMBOAT OVER THE TOP ROPE! He pulls back to choke him hard, but Tito and JYD run out to make the save. They fight off Muraco until he lets go, and Muraco and Fuji leave. Referees come out to help Steamboat to end the show, but he is able to get up on his own power. |

Ricky Steamboat vs. Bob Orton, Landover (July 20th) No idea why this obvious B-town match randomly got taped, but it was great. Real good Steamboat arm work as usual. He ends up throwing a soda in Ricky's face to take over, and he has a great control segment. Awesome Steamboat comeback and finishing run. After nearly getting pinned several times in a minute or so, Orton says "fuck it" and blatantly uses his cast for the DQ. *** Orton tries another cast shot after posing a lot, but Steamboat ducks it and is able to drive him out of the ring. |

Bruno puts Pedro over way too strongly. Tito beats X with the Flying Forearm. *1/2 WWF UPDATE: -Another recap of Tito winning the belt Match #2: Randy Savage vs. Mario Mancini Great Savage squash again. Tons of great looking offense and a ton of intensity. Flying Elbow wins for Savage. ** GENE INTERVIEWS: -Ricky Steamboat says he'll never forget what Muraco tried to do to him. He says he had this tag match scheduled, but after what happened last week, Muraco made it personal. He says Muraco tried to hang him like a dog, and in Boston, he and the Dog are going to beat Muraco and Fuji like dogs. Match #3: Greg Valentine w/ Jimmy Hart, Brutus Beefcake, & Johnny Valiant vs. Sal Bellomo Decent squash. Not enough brutality, but it was still of quality. Greg wins with the Figure Four. *3/4 GENE INTERVIEWS: -Roddy Piper is on to talk about his match with Orndorff. He says he heard Gene say it won't be a walk in the park for him. Piper says he can walk in any damn park he wants, and if anyone in Boston tries anything, he'll fight the whole city. He says people know how tough he is, and to ask Hogan, who's still ducking him. He says Paul must be stupid to try and fight him and Gene cuts him off. ![]() Match #4: The Iron Sheik/Nikolai Volkoff w/ Freddie Blassie vs Lanny Poffo/Keith Diamond Decent squash, but was under 2 minutes, so there's only so much to do with that. Keith submits to the Camel Clutch, and he is made humbell. *1/4 It is now time for Piper's Pit, and he has Bobby Heenan and Adrian Adonis on the set. Adonis says he's been misused and abused by people all over America and has has bad partners in the past, but no more. Must not be talking about Dick Murdoch, because he'll punch the faggot out of him for that. He says he has Bobby Heenan now to look out for his interests. Piper talks about the $25,000 and says in fact, Paul Orndorff is on next, and they should all pay real close attention. Match #5: Paul Orndorff vs. The Axe This is about 40 seconds, before Roddy Piper comes out to attack Mr. Wonderful for the DQ! 3/4* Piper and Paul have a big awesome fight in the ring and on the floor, and like 10-15 jobbers and lower card guys have to come out and pull them apart. Match #6: The Junkyard Dog/George Steele w/ Capt. Lou Albano vs. AJ Petruzzi & Jerry Adams This somehow gets 5 minutes. Awful. Way too much JYD here, and he wins with the Slam. THUMP YOUR MOTHER |

Lou Albano vs. Barry O/Larry Finnegan Usual solid squash from the USX. The Dream Team comes out to watch midway through. INTERESTING! Barry beats Larry with the Bulldog. *1/2 WWF UPDATE: -Someone named Corp. Kirchner is coming Match #2: The Missing Link w/ Bobby Heenan vs. Jim Londos HEAD BASED OFFENSE YEAH! Only 90 seconds, but a lot of fun. Link wins with a Diving Headbutt from the middle buckle. *1/2 GENE INTERVIEWS: -Paul Orndorff comes on and Gene says Bob Orton is barred from ringside for the match tonight. Paul says he couldn't be happier, because now nobody can save Roddy Piper from him. Match #3: The Hart Foundation w/ Jimmy Hart vs. George Wells/Joe Mirto Usual awesome Hart Foundation squash with all the usual trademarks. Mirto eats the Hart Attack for the loss. ** GENE INTERVIEWS: -Muraco and Fuji come on, and they kick Gene off the set. Muraco says if JYD was his dog, he'd put him to sleep. Which he was about to do to Ricky Steamboat until JYD stuck his stupid black head into his business, and now he's made himself a target too. Match #4: Terry Funk vs. Jim Young Funk delivers again. Lots of nasty punches and chops and holds. He wins with the Sleeper. ** Funk brings in a branding iron, and he brands the jobber post-match. Match #5: Randy Savage vs. Paul Roma YEAH FUCK YOU ROMA! LOTS OF GREAT SQUASHES THIS WEEK! ** Hillbilly Jim says to only cross streets at the crosswalks. Match #6: The British Bulldogs vs. Moondog Spot & Jerry Adams Awesome Bulldogs squash, delivering the 4th straight amazing squash in a row. He is a total piece of shit scumbag, but Dynamite has a complete disregard for the health of jobbers that is nearly Steineresque. Dynamite beats Adams after the Bulldogs do the Ode to Themselves. ** |

Roddy Piper vs. Paul Orndorff, Boston (August 3rd) Another great brawl in this feud. Same chaotic vibe, but different than MSG, because they used different stuff. They threw a table on the floor here, Piper got in more offense to begin, etc. Same idea of a cooling down period in the middle with some more basic actual wrestling, but all different kinds of holds here. They break loose again and brawl on the floor. They go to a double count out, and end up brawling to the back. *** Randy Savage vs. Sal Bellomo, Boston (August 3rd) Another great Savage showcase. Same match basically as the others, but I get the point. Flying Elbow ends it. ** Terry Funk vs. Rick McGraw, Boston (August 3rd) This was good. Didn't need 14 minutes, but it was good stuff. Funk gave the job guy way way too much, and didn't come out looking so good, in a maycabe sense. It's still Terry Funk, so a lot of awesome selling during it. He wins with the Sleeper Hold. *3/4 Ricky Steamboat/The Junkyard Dog vs. Don Muraco/Mr. Fuji, Boston (August 3rd) Solid "manager in a tag match" type deal. JYD got too much for it to really be very good, but it was still decent. JYD/Muraco kind of sucked. Steamboat/Muraco was much better. Steamboat was a great face in peril. This of course raises the issue with a babyface tag team where one guy is clearly doing all the work, as he can't both be FIP and then get the hot tag, so one of those will have to be the lesser segment. Steamboat gets back in though, and he hits Fuji with the Crossbody to win. **1/4 Muraco attacks Ricky post-match, and then he throws salt in his eyes. |

WWF Champion: Hulk Hogan, Since 1/23/1984 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPION CURRENTLY WWF Intercontinental Champion: Tito Santana, Since 7/6/1985 WWF Tag Team Champions: The US Express, Since 7/13/1985 WWF Championship Wrestling August 10th, 1985 Poughkeepsie, NY Match #1: Uncle Elmer w/ Hillbilly Jim vs. Bob Wade Shitty Elmer fare again. 1/4* WWF UPDATE: -More Corp. Kirchner hype Match #2: The Killer Bees vs. Mr. X/Bolo Decent Bees squash again. I'm now 95% sure that these fucking trunks are the reason everyone hates the Bees. They're goddamned infuriating. Blair does well, but yeah. Brunzell wins with a decent dropkick. It's like they're trying to make them as lame as possible. *1/2 VOTE FOR MANAGER OF THE YEAR! GENE INTERVIEWS: -September 7th is the next Boston show -He brings on Hulk Hogan and says he's defending against King Kong Bundy at Boston. Hogan says he knows he's got his hands full and says Bundy is bigger than Andre and the fastest big man ever, but he doesn't think he has what it takes to keep up with him, dude. He says people like Bundy are great, but they'll come and go, and Hulkamania will be forever. Match #3: Ricky Steamboat vs. Dan Rymonti Good squash from Steamboat again. Ricky shows off some more than just arm work now, but it's not long enough to be a great great squash. Crossbody does the deal. *3/4 GENE INTERVIEWS: -Jimmy Hart comes on and hypes up his stable of King Kong Bundy, Greg Valentine, and the Hart Foundation. He says the WWF Title is coming with him after September 7th, and says Bundy was in Japan beating 2 to 3 men at one time. Hart says all the Hulkamania t-shirts he sells won't help him, and when Bundy catches up with him, he's going to hurt him and he's going to hurt him bad. Actually a very good promo. Match #4: The Hart Foundation w/ Jimmy Hart vs. SD Jones/Jimmy Jackson Jobbers get in too much for this to be great, but still very very good. Hart Attack beats Jackson. *1/2 It is time for Piper's Pit, and he has Don Muraco and Mr. Fuji on. Muraco says this is the first talk show he's ever done, but he chose the best show on all TV to do. He says he respects Piper for speaking loud and backing it up, just like him. They agree to swap t-shirts due to them both admiring each other, and then it fades out. Ridiculous and amazing. Match #5: Paul Orndorff vs. AJ Petruzzi Good Paul squash for about a minute. Piledriver ends it. * Roddy Piper and Bob Orton hit the ring, and they double team Orndorff, BUT ANDRE THE GIANT COMES OUT TO SAVE, RETURNING AFTER 5 MONTHS! YEAH! |

WWF Champion: Hulk Hogan, Since 1/23/1984 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPION CURRENTLY WWF Intercontinental Champion: Tito Santana, Since 7/6/1985 WWF Tag Team Champions: The US Express, Since 7/13/1985 WWF Championship Wrestling August 17th, 1985 Poughkeepsie, NY Match #1: The US Express w/ Capt. Lou Albano vs. Tiger Chung Lee & Dave Barbie Typical solid squash for USX. Bulldog beats Barbie. *1/2 WWF UPDATE: -More Corp. Kirchner Match #2: Terry Funk vs. Paul Roma Terry Funk beats the dogshit out of Paul Roma for 3 minutes. Awesome punches, knees, etc. He wins with the Sleeper. ** Funk brands the piece of shit post-match. GENE INTERVIEWS: -They just replay the Hogan match from last Albano joins Vince and Bruno at the table stand, and they say he's currently leading in the voting for Manager of the Year, but Freddie Blassie comes over. He says he should be in the lead and Albano calls him a jerk. He shoves him with his cane, and Albano shoves him, so Blassie leaves and Albano yells that he's not going to take this. Match #3: Tito Santana vs. Mike Donnatello Good Tito squash. Your typical armwork and chops kind of babyface squash, and he wins with the Flying Forearm and then the Figure Four. *3/4 PIECE OF SHIT FREDDIE MARTIN INTERVIEW: -Uncle Elmer interview -Nope Match #4: The Dream Team w/ Jimmy Hart & Johnny Valiant vs. Lanny Poffo/Gary Starr Good squash. Greg does most of the work and gets nice and brutal here. On commentary, Vince says there's a rumor that Valiant wants to manage the team all by himself. Unfortunately only 2 minutes, but whatever. Greg wins with his Figure Four. Shame Greg and Tito never got to do an I Quit match based around the hold, but this is WWF 1985, not NWA 1985. *3/4 It is time for Piper's Pit now. He talks about Andre The Giant being back and says it's gotten a lot of hype in WWF Magazine, and then tears up a picture of Andre from it. He says it figures Andre doesn't have the guts to do nothing by himself after he's left Andre bloody and beaten up time and time again. Andre then comes on the set and Roddy starts calling him Mr. Giant and asks him to conduct himself as a gentleman and says the magazine was already torn up. Piper and Orton flip the table over to distract him, and they run off the set. Match #5: Don Muraco w/ Mr. Fuji vs. Sal Gee Only 2 minutes again, but still good. Tombstone gets the win. *1/2 Match #6: Ricky Steamboat/The Junkyard Dog vs. Steve Lombardi/Moondog Spot And JYD has now moved on to piggybacking off of Steamboat. He's got a knack for attaching himself to hot acts and leeching off of them. Ricky wins with the Crossbody. *1/2 |

Randy Savage vs. Bob Marcus, Toronto (August 18th) Great squash. Not overly long, but just 4 minutes of nasty looking offense and a few nice Savage bumps for the brief jobber comeback. Savage hits the Flying Elbow for the win. ** Andre The Giant vs. Big John Studd w/ Bobby Heenan, Toronto (August 18th) This is hardly a bad match. I chose to review it because it has an angle that seems like it will be important. They base it around strength spots instead of slam attempts, and it all makes sense and has some nice stuff, but it's way too long at like 15 minutes and is pretty slow. It has a very watchable quality to it though that makes no real sense. Andre eventually slams Studd and tries to cut his hair, but King Kong Bundy runs out to attack him for a DQ! ** They double team him, and Bundy hits FOUR Big Splashes to Andre before people come out to get them to stop. The Hart Foundation vs. The Killer Bees, Toronto (August 18th) Finally, both teams get a real match against some of their peer teams. This was not overly great or anything, but merely solid. Kind of disappointing in that way. Way too much generic Anvil clubbering forearms to the back and not enough of his cool power spots or Bret's strikes like their squashes have focused on. Blair has a good hot tag though. He gets the Sleeper on Neidhart, but Bret hits him with brass knucks and Neidhart falls on top to win. **1/4 Ricky Steamboat vs. Don Muraco w/ Mr. Fuji, Toronto (August 18th) Steamboat comes out hot after recent events on TV. This time Steamboat uses his belt on Muraco in revenge. They have a lot of fun stuff here, but it just feels like something is missing to just keep them from having a truly great match. Not sure what it is exactly. Steamboat is closing in on the win, but Fuji throws salt in his eyes from the floor for the DQ. **3/4 Muraco hits him with the Tombstone post-match. |

WWF Champion: Hulk Hogan, Since 1/23/1984 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPION CURRENTLY WWF Intercontinental Champion: Tito Santana, Since 7/6/1985 WWF Tag Team Champions: The US Express, Since 7/13/1985 WWF Championship Wrestling August 24th, 1985 Poughkeepsie, NY Match #1: The Killer Bees vs. Rusty Brooks/Barry O Decent Bees squash. *1/2 WWF UPDATE: -They say Randy Savage has finally selected a manager and will reveal his choice tonight! Match #2: Pedro Morales vs. AJ Petruzzi GOOD LORD, THIS GETS 5 MINUTES. HOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRIBLE. 1/25* GENE INTERVIEWS: -More Hogan/Bundy hype -This is the only match from this Boston show that is showing up online Match #3: The Iron Sheik/Nikolai Volkoff w/ Freddie Blassie vs. Keith Diamond/Al Diamond Only like a minute, but it was all Sheik suplexes and then the Camel Clutch, so it was solid enough. * Match #4: Tony Atlas/George Wells vs. Bolo/John Rizzo Your average TONAYYYYY squash. Which means it sucked. 1/2* It is now time for Piper's Pit, and he brings on his guest, TERRY FUNK! MY GOD, THIS SHOULD BE ILLEGAL. He says his daddy told him that junkyard dogs are barely animals, they're beasts and buffoons, and they should be treated as such. He says he and Ace both love branding animals, and he can't wait to brand JYD too. Piper says JYD is more like a jackass than a dog. Match #5: Randy Savage vs. Jim Young Randy comes out alone, not revealing his manager yet. Another wonderful Savage squash. Bobby Heenan, Jimmy Hart, Johnny Valiant, Freddie Blassie, and Mr. Fuji all come out to watch. Only 90 seconds unfortunately, and the Flying Elbow gets the win. *3/4 Randy gets on the mic. He says he thanks all the managers for their consideration, but points to the curtain and says behind that door is his new manager, and here SHE comes! AW YEAH, IT'S MISS ELIZABETH! He leaves with her, and the managers are not happy. |

Paul Orndorff vs. Roddy Piper w/ Bob Orton [Special Referee: Bruno Sammartino], Philadelphia (August 24th) This is the least of their brawls, due to focus on Bruno taking away from the match. Piper keeps yelling at him and he kind of breaks up the flow of the brawl, trying to actually enforce rules. Usual awesome chaotic stuff when that's not happening though. Bruno tries to stop him from using a chair, and Piper hits a really pathetic looking chair shot on Bruno and that ends the match. **1/2 Ace joins Piper in beating on Bruno, and Orndorff saves. He and Bruno run off Piper and Ace. AWFUL. The US Express [c] w/ Capt. Lou Albano vs. The Dream Team w/ Johnny Valiant [WWF Tag Team Championship], Philadelphia (August 24th) The Barry/Valentine stuff is pretty awesome. The match is of lesser quality when Brutus and Rotunda are in, but it's not outright bad. Fairly average tag team wrestling. Dream Team's control seg was fun, and Barry had a really good hot tag. Valiant passed Brutus his lit cigar, and he rubs it in Barry's face! He then gets a cradle off of that to win the titles! YES! FINALLY! **1/2 |

Ricky Steamboat/JYD squash: *1/2 Nikolai Volkoff vs. Rick McGraw: 3/4* Tony Atlas/Ivan Putski vs. Matt Borne/John Rizzio: 1/2* Terry Funk vs. Red Walsh: *3/4 Corp. Kirchner vs. Terry Gibbs: * |

WWF Champion: Hulk Hogan, Since 1/23/1984 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPION CURRENTLY WWF Intercontinental Champion: Tito Santana, Since 7/6/1985 WWF Tag Team Champions: The Dream Team, Since 8/24/1985 WWF Championship Wrestling September 7th, 1985 Poughkeepsie, NY Bruno is gone this week, so we get Jesse and he is infinitely better. Match #1: The Killer Bees vs. Tiger Chung Lee/Jerry Adam This got slightly more time than the last one, but it still wasn't really anything to write home about. Fucking Brunzell wins with his dropkick. *1/2 WWF UPDATE: -Footage airs of the attack on Andre by Bundy and Big John Studd -Andre will be out for some time, but will be returning with Albano as his manager Match #2: Don Muraco w/ Mr. Fuji vs. Jimmy Jackson Good not great Muraco squash. Some good karate strikes. He wins with the Tombstone. *1/2 NEXT WEEK: STEAMBOAT VS. FUJI! Clips air from Hulk Hogan's Rock n' Wrestling. Match #3: Cousin Junior w/ Hillbilly Jim & Uncle Elmer vs. Ron Shaw Junior is no better than Elmer. He wins with a horrible double mule kick. 1/4* GENE INTERVIEWS: -JYD speaks nonsense, trying to hype up the card, but ending up making me not want to see any of it Match #4: Adrian Adonis w/ Bobby Heenan vs. Mike Saxon This was decent enough for 90 seconds. Adonis now carries a briefcase with him. He wins with a decent Running Powerslam. *1/4 It is time for Piper's Pit, and he brings on Bobby Heenan and Big John Studd. He has action figures of Andre and Big John Studd, and they simulate a realistic match between them. The Studd one easily slams Andre three or four times, and Studd throws Andre's one in the trash and says that's exactly what he did, he ran him out of town. Match #5: Randy Savage w/ Miss Elizabeth vs. Joe Mirto Another squash that rules, but is only 90 seconds. Most importantly, Savage now has "Pomp & Circumstance" as his theme. Flying Elbow does the job. *3/4 Footage airs of the Tag Title switch from Philadelphia. |

Hulk Hogan [c] vs. King Kong Bundy w/ Jimmy Hart [WWF Championship], Boston (September 7th) This was pretty good! Hogan breaking out a near Akiyama level high knee to start was fantastic. Then it got slower and full of big man bear hug and knees type stuff. Not bad for that style, and Bundy is much much better than Big John Studd at it. Still, this is only their first match and they can't have Bundy get taken off his feet yet, so they're somewhat limited there. Hogan makes his comeback, but Bundy hits him with Hart's megaphone for the DQ. **1/2 |

Jim Neidhart vs. Davey Boy Smith, Landover (September 14th) This only gets 5 minutes, as compared to their partners' match, but hey, it's still these two in 1985 for 5 minutes. Lots of tight holds and power stuff. Anvil uses his power more for strikes and throws, while Bulldog uses it to counter things. I'm much more used to calling him The British Bulldog. Fucking Dynamite Kid, fucking up my whole flow. In a rare occasion, I watch a Neidhart singles match and sya they could have gotten a lot more out of it. Neidhart gets his feet on the ropes on a pin for the win. ** Bret Hart vs. The Dynamite Kid, Landover (September 14th) This is about what you'd expect. Literally everything looked really painful. Nasty Bret headbutts and elbows on his control, and both men took hellish bumps. DK had an awesome comeback, and he ends up rolling through a slam from the apron into a cradle for the win. *** |
