CHIKARA Campeones Des Parejas: Super Smash Bros., Since 9/21/2008 CHIKARA Young Lions Cup Champion: Vin Gerard, Since 7/13/2008 ![]() CHIKARA The Global Gauntlet Night 2 October 19th, 2008 Philadelphia, PA Match #1: Colin Delaney/STIGMA vs. The Sea Donsters STIGMA is the former Shane Storm. Classically fun kind of opening match. Comedy tag team against a hot new heel stable. STIGMA beats Hydra with a nasty looking (in a good way) Jumping Tombstone. **3/4 Vin Gerard comes out as his stablemates celebrate. He points out Jigsaw in the crowd and says they got off on the wrong foot last month (when Jigsaw saved Quack from an UnStable beatdown), and says he wants to talk to him. Jigsaw gets in the ring and Vin says like him and STIGMA, nobody in the locker room likes him and they want nothing to do with him. He says he should join them, so Jigsaw Superkicks STIGMA! They beat on him, and Quack runs out to save! They fight off the rudos, and Jigsaw goes for a handshake. Quack refuses and says that they're even now, and he leaves. Jigsaw tries to go to the back too, and Chikarason stops him and says they need to talk in his office. Match #2: Icarus vs. Lince Dorado AWESOME match. It's a classic heel/face format with a good babyface and a solid heel, so it'll be at least good, but Lince takes some lunatic bumps to make it great. Icarus gets pretty brutal at points here, and in a totally insane moment for Lince, he tries a Crossbody on Icarus near the ropes, BUT ICARUS MOVES AND LINCE FLIES OVER THE TOP AND RIGHT ONTO THE CONCRETE. Lots of crazy nasty spots, before Lince manages to come back and he wins with the Shooting Star Press. *** Match #3: Incoherence vs. UltraMantis Black/Crossbones [2] This is quite good. Not great, but entertaining and more light hearted after two really hard fought matches and a big angle with Jigsaw. Solid control segment by the Order, and Hallowicked had a really great hot tag as usual. The Sea Donsters come out to distract Mantis in revenge for costing them the titles in August, and Delirious gets Crossbones with the Shadows Over Hell to win. **3/4 In the back, Jimmy Olsen says Vin Gerard likes to play mind games with him, but he can play some of his own. Vin comes out for the match, BUT JIMMY OLSEN COMES OUT IN THE EQUINOX OUTFIT! I love this turn of events, but when Olsen stays as Equinox after the feud is over, it becomes kind of ridiculous. Match #4: Jimmy Olsen vs. Vin Gerard Very fun 7 minutes. Vin is freaked out by the Equinox outfit, and they spend most of the match getting that over through is lack of focus. Jimmy makes Vin tap to the CHIKARA Special. More of a storyline match than them going out and delivering, but they'll do that in the future. **3/4 Match #5: Super Smash Bros. [c] vs. The Osirian Portal [CHIKARA Campeonatos Des Parejas] Good stuff. The Portal jumps the champions to start, and they get the first fall in like 2 minutes with the Osirian Sacrament on Player Dos. They then have a fantastic tag match for the second fall. Very good control seg on Uno by the Portal. Lots of cool looking offense and basic tag psychology. Dos has a great great hot tag, including a sensational dive. He gets Ophidian with the Final Smash to tie it up at 1-1. Awesome final fall of huge huge moves, all done quite crisply and in a logical progression. I both love and hate the finish. Hate it because it's a simple roll up finish after the match is based around throwing bombs, but love it because it's that kind of retardedly genius thing that can only work in CHIKARA. Uno has it won, but AMASIS PRESSES THE PAUSE BUTTON ON HIS SHORTS! HE ROLLS HIM OVER AND PINS HIM TO WIN THE BELTS! ***1/4 The Portal leaves with the belts. Dos unpauses Uno, and yells at him to never wear those shorts again. Match #6: Team CHIKARA [Gran Akuma/The Colony/Eddie Kingston/Mike Quackenbush/Claudio Castagnoli] vs. Team BJW [Jaki Numazawa/Atsushi Ohashi/Katsumasa Inoue/Shinya Ishikawa/Ryuji Ito/Yuji Okabayashi/Daisuke Sekimoto] [GLOBAL GAUNTLET] This is really impressive, in terms of layout and how good it was, given that BJW's team had 4 guys who have only about a year of experience (Ohahsi, Inoue, Ishikawa, Okabayashi). Rules are that it's a series of one on one matches. Starts with Akuma/Jaki. Good stuff. Once Akuma is eliminated, Fire Ant comes in. Etc. Pretty much everyone gets to shine, and all the CHIKARA guys look great, and are able to carry the rookies. Not that the rookies are bad, as they show a ton of potential and shine at points, but they're rookies, so you just don't expect a ton. Anyways, back to the order. Fire Ant shows a lot, so Jaki is DQ'd for low blowing him. Ohashi is next, and they have a great little match. Ohashi wins with the Yoshi Tonic. Soldier Ant is next. Soldier gets rid of him with the TKO. Inoue is next. Big burly young guy, and Soldier has a remarkable Tope con Salute. Inoue wins with a Tiger Suplex. Worker Ant is in next. Inoue is again very impressive against him, and Worker eventually rolls him up to win. Shinya Ishikawa is next. My nigga Shinya throws some amazing forearms, and gets rid of Worker with a Rolling Elbow. AND EDDIE KINGSTON IS IN AND PUNISHES ANOTHER ROOKIE! FUCK YEAH! Shinya puts up a hell of a fight and wins with the Backfist to the Future. Ryuji Ito is in, and they have an AMAZING slugfest. Ito gets a Frog Splash to win. Quack is in next, and delivers with a lot of fire and passion in defense of CHIKARA. This is probably the best match up yet. Quack makes Ito tap to the CHIKARA Special! Okabayashi is in next, and Quack gets something good out of him, by letting him beat the holy jesus fuck out of him with chops. Quack gets a Skayde Special to eliminate him too! Quack is really beaten up, AND OH SHIT! DAISUKE SEKIMOTO IS NEXT! He is a goddamn tank, and Quack tries his best, but cannot contend with his power. Quack takes a few insane bumps, and is beat with a Deadlift German Suplex. AND CLAUDIO IS IN LAST! CLAUDIO VS. SEKIMOTO IS GODDAMN AMAZING! They hit each other super hard, have insane strength spots, and are just generally fucking wonderful at the pro wrestling. Claudio eventually wins with the Ricola Bomb. **** |

CHIKARA Campeones Des Parejas: The Osirian Portal, Since 10/19/2008 CHIKARA Young Lions Cup Champion: Vin Gerard, Since 7/13/2008 ![]() CHIKARA Cibernetico Begins November 15th, 2008 Framingham, MA Match #1: Team F.I.S.T. vs. Larry Sweeney/Robbie Ellis This is mostly comedy, but FIST are both great as straight men for the bullshit of Sweeney and Ellis. Akuma ends up getting a sunset flip on Ellis for the win. **1/2 Ultimo Breakfast comes out for a match, and he has no opponent. The Osirian Portal comes out and says after winning the tag titles, they have a bullseye on their backs, so they went to Osiris and asked the sands to send them someone worthy of watching their backs, and they introduce their bodyguard, Escorpion Egipico. Match #2: Escorpion Egipico vs. Ultimo Breakfast This is should have been a showcase of Egipico for his first night, which would only be logical. But Ultimo got in way too much offense, and this was kind of just average. Egopico wins with a Big Splash off the top. Decent enough for what it was. **1/4 Match #3: Super Smash Bros. vs. 2.0 Awesome stuff. 2.0 are 2.0. SSB play along with the comedy, and they have a lot of cool spots. 2.0 have the wonderful control segment that they usually put forth. A little sloppy, but overall good work from everyone. Uno has a nice hot tag, and the SSB get a point with the Tandem Spike Piledriver. **3/4 In the back, Brodie Lee cuts a promo. He is mad about losing to Claudio and Sekimoto recently, and says he's going to beat up Hallowicked tonight to get back on track. Eddie Kingston comes over and says he doesn't need to sweat Hallowicked, and tells him to take a walk with him, and they leave. Match #4: Hallowicked vs. Brodie Lee Wonderful slugfest. Brodie controlled most of it and had some really beautiful and nasty strikes to Hallowicked. Credit to Wicked, he takes some brutal bumps, and then has a great comeback. Brodie wins with two Yakuza Kicks in a row to Hallowicked. *** Match #5: Claudio Castagnoli vs. Mitch Ryder/Shayne Hawke According to commentary, Claudio refused to pick a partner. This is again more of an angle. Mitch refuses to tag in, so it's all Claudio/Hawke, and is pretty good. As Claudio is going for the Ricola Bomb, Mitch gets a low blow and rolls him up for the win. **1/2 Larry Sweeney comes out to save post-match when they beat on him. Larry tries to help Claudio up, but he shoves him away and leaves on his own. Match #6: Jimmy Olsen/Mike Quackenbush/Helios//The Colony/The Sea Donsters vs. Vin Gerard/STIGMA/Eddie Kingston/Lince Dorado/The Osirian Portal/UltraMantis Black/Crossbones [TORNEO CIBERNETICO] Lince was forced to be on the UnStable team due to Vin abusing the rule that anyone picked by a captain of a Cibernetico team must compete. This is quite the great match, obviously. This is probably the most "normal" of the Cibernetico matches before 2010, in that for the most part, there's not a ton of long feeling out matwork to start. Which given the people in this, is probably for the best. Lots of cool and crisp exchanges. Mantis gets rid of Donst first about 30 minutes in with a crucifix pin after a Crossbones distraction. Helios then gets rid of Crossbones with a Standing SSP. STIGMA then gets rid of Hydra with the Tombstone. We get another great run through, and UMB shockingly eliminates Helios with a Steiner Screwdriver! I grow tired of recapping every thing in this. In the final moments, Kingston is beat by Fire Ant, and he snaps and hits the Backfist to the Future on him. He hits one on his teammate Lince too, and Lince falls on Fire Ant to eliminate him. Jimmy hesitantly pins Lince to eliminate him, and we get a nice Jimmy Olsen vs. Ophidian final segment, before Jimmy wins with the CHIKARA Special! Not the best Cibernetico (2005) or the second best (2006 or 2010), and I don't remember how it compares to 2009's, but it was still very great. ***1/2 |

Claudio Castagnoli vs. Eddie Kingston, From Armdrags to Riches (November 16th) This was marvelous! Really heated match. Great matwork, and Kingston especially had a beautiful sense of hate. Claudio seems like he's taking joy in humiliating King on the mat, and then it turns into the totally brutal and balls out slugfest that both men are capable of. Claudio wins with the Ricola Bomb. ***1/2 Jimmy Olsen/Lince Dorado/Helios vs. Vin Gerard/STIGMA/Colin Delaney, A Face with a View (December 12th) Same basic idea as the tag between the two sides from October. The faces have a lot of really really cool looking stuff that's all very pretty and crisp. The heels bump around well and keep it simple and cheat a lot. Everything works out well, they have a hot crowd and yeah. Awesome finishing run. Lince and Helios get Stereo SSPs on STIGMA and Colin for the win. *** Vin Gerard [c] vs. Jimmy Olsen [CHIKARA Young Lions Cup], Duel & Duality (December 14th) This is much better than the October match. Really great chaotic fight. At the end, Vin fakes a low blow as the ref gets back up, so Jimmy pulls off his mask and fakes being KO'd. Bryce gets up and he doesn't know who to DQ, so he just calls it a no contest. *** Leonard Chikarason comes out post-match, and he vacates the Young Lions Cup. Mike Quackenbush/Tim Donst vs. STIGMA/Colin Delaney, Duel & Duality (December 14th) Good match for 10 minutes, but more of an angle than anything. Donst is out early after a nasty bump to the floor that hurts his back. Quack is beat up for a while, and it's generally solid. He finally is in position to make a tag, AND JIGSAW RUNS IN FROM THE CROWD, WITH HIS MASK BACK ON, AND HE GETS THE TAG! YEAH! Jigsaw beats Colin with the Jig n' Tonic, and Quack and Jig are reunited. **3/4 |
