Match #1: Shocker vs. Petey Williams

SO BAD. They announce Daniels/Shocker for the X Title at Hard Justice, ending Daniels' streak of great X Title PPV matches, I assume. Two bad wrestlers have a bad match. Makes sense. Shocker gets a mouse trap pin to win.
3/4*

Tenay interviews Shocker, and he says some words.

TONIGHT: AMW/Naturals for the tag belts

Match #2: Sonjay Dutt vs. Buck Quartermaine
Dutt looked decent here, but this went on way too long. Buck sucks, so giving him an actual control seg was a poor decision. Dutt gets a Slingshot Huracanrana to win.
*

Match #3: The Outlaw vs. Mikey Batts

This sucked. Gunn won.
1/2*

Konnan comes out onto the stage, and he challenges Outlaw to a match next week, and he accepts.

Dusty Rhodes comes out to the ring, and he announces that Jarrett will defend the title against AJ Styles at Hard Justice on 5/15, and to maintain order, he's assigning TITO ORTIZ~ as the special referee! Jarrett comes out and he throws a fit about it, and says that's not fair and accuses Dusty of plotting against him. FUCK YOU, JEFF. FUCK YOU. I HATE YOU. I USED TO LOVE YOU. I EVEN LIKED YOU A BIT IN 2003-4, BUT THIS HAS BEEN A HORRIBLE HORRIBLE TITLE REIGN. ONE HORRIBLE OR PAINFULLY LONG AND MEDIOCRE MATCH AFTER ANOTHER SINCE LAST SUMMER. FUCK. YOU'VE PLAYED WITH THE BELT FOR 11 MONTHS, BUT IT'S ABOUT GODDAMNED TIME FOR THE ACE TO TAKE BACK HIS BELT.

For a month. :( / :)

Match #4: America's Most Wanted [c] vs. The Naturals w/ Chris Candido [NWA World Tag Team Championship]
Candido is dead by the time this airs, but it was taped the Monday after Lockdown, so yeah. He's on crutches, obviously. This gets like 10-15 minutes, so it's good stuff. Fun brawl to begin with the Naturals getting destroyed. They control Harris eventually, and the commercial AGAIN misses the transition to this, which is beyond annoying. That's why WWE TV commercial placement doesn't bother me much, because it happens after the transition, and they show important stuff. Storm has a good hot tag. One of the Nattys hits him with the chair, but Harris Spears him down. He fights the other one, but behind the ref's back, CANDIDO PUTS THE OTHER ONE ON TOP OF STORM! THE NATURALS WIN THE BELTS?!
**3/4

Candido celebrates with the Naturals. R.I.P. :(

Match #1: Abyss vs. Cassidy Riley

Good squash as usual for Abyss. One of those classic cases of guys who do good squashes but often suck in actual matches.
*1/2

Tenay and West announce that at Hard Justice, there will be a 20 man Gauntlet for the Gold, with the winner becoming #1 Contender.

HARD JUSTICE: MAY 15TH!

Christopher Daniels comes out to do commentary.

Match #2: Shocker vs. Sonjay Dutt
Dutt has improved from how bad he was in 2003/4, but he's still not great enough to get a good match out of Shocker. He's decent enough to get something above * though, so Daniels should be able to do something decent with Shocker at the PPV. They key with this fuck seems to be only letting him do arm drags and headscissors lucha type stuff. He's fine doing that, but when he has to throw strikes, his stuff all falls apart. Shocker again wins with the mouse trap.
*3/4

In a pretape, Raven says he's been granted a Clockwork Orange House of Fun match against Jeff Hardy at Hard Justice, and he says he is going to be extinction of Jeff Hardy.

Konnan comes out for the match with the Outlaw, but he comes out from behind, and they fight on the floor. The match never really happens. Outlaw eventually gets the upper hand, and he hits Konnan with a chair. BG James and Ron Killings come out to save, and Outlaw backs off, and he and BG stare each other down before BG and Truth help Konnan to the back.

A pretape airs with Mike Tenay talking with AJ and Jarrett at the same time in an empty arena promo. Jeff says everyone is trying to dethrone the King of the Mountain match. He says he's beaten everyone for 11 months now, and the reason Tito is there is because Dusty isn't so sure about this punk. He says AJ hasn't earned anything yet and he can't get there just on pure ability, and he has to walk and talk and look and act like a champion, and AJ doesn't. Well, that's bullshit. Jeff says this is Planet Jarrett, and he'll slap Tito too, and says AJ is gonna get stroked. Wait, what? AJ says this is always been a goal of his, and they go on like this AND WHAT THE FUCK, GUYS? AJ'S ENDED TWO LONG JEFF JARRETT TITLE REIGNS ALREADY, STOP ACTING LIKE HE'S NEVER BEEN CHAMPION BEFORE. STOP ACTING LIKE THEY'VE NEVER EVEN FACED EACH OTHER!

NEXT WEEK: Tito will speak up. Gross.

Match #3: Chris Sabin w/ Tracy vs. Michael Shane w/ Trinity
This gets 10 minutes! Hey, good for you, TNA! This is once again good, but not quite at that upper level. Shane isn't great and never will be, but I think he's actually gotten pretty good by this point as a stylistically low key heel base for the flippier guys. Sabin avoids the Superkick and gets a roll up to win.
**1/2

Shane Superkicks him post-match, and keeps beating on him as the show cuts out.

Hype video for AJ/Jarrett to open the show.

During the intros for the opening match, DW and Tenay announce an AMW/Naturals rematch for Hard Justice.

Match #1: Christopher Daniels vs. Elix Skipper vs. Jeff Hardy vs. Eric Young w/ Scott D'Amore [Elimination Match]
Randomly booked, but pretty enjoyable, and it got time. Jeff Hardy is out within the first few minutes, as Raven comes out to watch. Jeff goes out after him, and they fight to the back. He doesn't come back, so they rule him eliminated. EY impresses again, but Daniels eliminates him with a cradle. Daniels vs. Skipper is pretty great for the last 2 minutes, and Skipper hits the Sudden Death, BUT THE TIME RUNS OUT!
**3/4

Since they don't mention the judge concept or have any judge thing happen, this is probably an indication that TNA realized how stupid the concept was.

Hype video for Daniels/Shocker.

A different hype video for Jeff/AJ airs.

Hype video for AMW/Naturals.

A video airs of Tito Ortiz talking about the match. He talks about being a fan of TNA, and says he's going to be fair. His prediction is asked for and he says Jeff's had it for a long time, but it's AJ's time now.

Hype video for Raven/Jeff.

Match #2: 10 Man Gauntlet [Winner is #20 at Hard Justice - First Man Out is #1]
The people involved are Abyss, Lance Hoyt, Trytan, A1, Gran Apollo, Michael Shane, Chris Sabin, Bobby Roode, Petey Williams, and David Young. Sabin works most of this and has some good stuff. It comes down to Abyss vs. Hoyt, and Hoyt is OVER. This is almost all due to him socializing with Impact Zone regulars to get over. Can't fault the dude for being smart, I guess. Abyss wins with the Black Hole Slam.

TNA HARD JUSTICE 2005
MAY 15TH, 2005
ORLANDO, FL

A 10 bell salute for Candido opens the show.

Match #1: Petey Williams/Eric Young w/ Scott D'Amore & A1 vs. Sonny Siaki/Gran Apollo
Horrible match again from the brown people. A1 hits Siaki with the hockey stick to give Petey the win.
*1/4

Clips air of Tito Ortiz arriving earlier tonight.

Clips also air of AJ and Jarrett arriving. AJ comes from the parking lot to big cheers from people waiting in line. He shakes hands and signs a few things. Jarrett is escorted by a posse of people in suits and other security, in stark contrast to AJ's arrival. The build might be wrong, based on the idea that this is AJ's first big shot, but they've done a great job with it. Best NWA Title match build since...well, the last Jarrett/AJ match (that actually got built to, DQ'ing the cage match) in December 2003.

Match #2: Chris Sabin/Tracy vs. Michael Shane/Trinity
Sabin and Shane did fine, and better than usual even, but the cunts dragged it down. Not that that is surprising. At least they weren't in this that often. At the end, Tracy turns on Sabin with a low blow, and Shane then Superkicks Trinity! He hits one on Sabin too, for the win.
**1/2

Tracy and Shane leave together, reunited.

SLAMMIVERSARY: JUNE 19TH!

In the back, Team Canada of Petey and Eric is interviewed and D'Amore says everyone has doubted them for the last few months, but they're back on track, and they want the gold back.

In the back, Dusty gives Ortiz the referee shirt and gives him a speech about keeping it all on the up and up tonight and he warns him about Jeff Jarrett. He takes the referee shirt and he says he'll take care of it.

Jeff Hardy no-showed again, so he was finally suspended by TNA, and Tenay says a mystery opponent for Raven has been announced.

Raven comes out for the match, and he gets on the mic. He says Jeff Hardy is pathetic and too much of a coward to face him tonight. He says he saw the DOA putting over Tito big time, but he should be more concerned with him. He says he also saw Team Canada talking about running in a pack, but he doesn't run in a pack. He runs and he hunts by himself, AND HE IS STILL HUNTING THE SAME THING. HIS DESTINY STILL AWAITS! FUCK YEAH! Oh, the mystery man is Sean Waltman!

Match #3: Raven vs. Sean Waltman [Clockwork Orange House of Fun]
This is actually pretty good. Raven finally has a good opponent and shows us that he still has it, if only until the end of the year or so. Not a ton of story, but a lot of cool spots and big new bumps. Raven gets a really nasty cut on his head, beyond his usual level. There's a few things I had an issue with, but this was way too impressive for a few little things to hold it back and they deserve full points for the effort put in, compared to other older dudes in TNA blatantly coasting. Raven back drops Waltman through the cage wall and it breaks and he takes a nasty bump to the floor. Raven dives out onto the cover to win.
***

In the back, DDP says he was supposed to team with BG James tonight, but he's apparently having travel issues and isn't here yet. He says he's got Truth to fill in for him, but something doesn't feel right about this.

Match #4: Diamond Dallas Page/Ron Killings vs. Monty Brown/The Outlaw
That thing I just said about older guys blatantly coasting in TNA? Yeah, what's up Billy Gunn and DDP. Monty has regressed SO MUCH since the end of 2004, and is just another uninteresting, inexperienced, and overpushed big guy. Truth is fine though. Monty beats DDP with the Pounce to win.
*3/4

In the back, The Naturals thank Chris for all he's done for them as their manager over the last few months and more importantly as their mentor and friend, and they dedicate the match to him.

Match #5: The Naturals [c] vs. America's Most Wanted [NWA World Tag Team Championship]
The Naturals have a chair set up on the floor with a white towel over it. :( This is pretty great, and their best match since the Ladder Match. They found a great way to work it with the teams as is, realizing with the Candido tribute, nobody is going to boo the Naturals for a while, and without having to turn AMW yet. They had a fine enough wrestling match and then they realized they just don't fucking like each other, and it became an awesome brawl. They did some cool stuff back inside the ring, and Stevens rolls up Harris with the tights and his feet on the ropes to win. That's a pretty fitting tribute to Candido, good for TNA for doing something right.
***

Hype video for Daniels/Shocker.

Match #6: Christopher Daniels [c] vs. Shocker [TNA X Division Championship]
This sure happened. Daniels has to take a number of huge bumps to make this average and only lets Shocker do lucha stuff. Even then, Shocker is kind of awkward when taking offense too, which I did not take into consideration when forming my theory during Dutt/Shocker. Don West somehow earns my love EVEN MORE by saying the Tope Suicida might be the best wrestling move ever. I AGREE, DON. I FUCKING AGREE. ESPECIALLY WHEN IT GOES INTO A COMMERCIAL BREAK. Shocker's comeback blew, and Daniels wins with the Angel's Wings.
**1/4

A recap airs of Abyss winning #20.

Match #6: 20 Man Gauntlet For The Gold
This was good. Not overly great or anything, but good. Team Canada was in for most of it and eliminated lots of people before the end. Lance Hoyt eliminated all of them, and then they pulled him out too. They brawled away. It came down to BG James, who now had arrived, Abyss, The Outlaw, and Truth. BG and Outlaw went face to face, but Abyss threw them both out before they could fight. Abyss vs. Killings is quite a good final match, and Abyss wins with the Black Hole Slam.
**1/4

Hype video for Jarrett/AJ.

Match #8: Jeff Jarrett [c] vs. AJ Styles [NWA World Heavyweight Championship - Special Referee: Tito Ortiz]
Unfortunately, Tito is too involved in this for it to be great. Lots of annoying stuff here. AJ no-selling the leg, way too much Tito involvement breaking up the flow, Jarrett's usual calvacade of bullshit, finisher theft, etc. Jeff shoves Tito down, who then hits him. AND AJ HITS THE SPIRAL TAP TO REGAIN HIS FUCKING BELT! YEAH!
**3/4

IT'S OVER

IT'S FINALLY FUCKING OVER

Match #1: Monty Brown vs. Sonny Siaki

Decent Monty squash. He needs like 2-3 months of just squashes to rebuild himself.
*1/2

In the back, Michael Shane and Tracy are interviewed. Shane says he's putting his focus on regaining the title that nobody could take from him one on one and nobody could pin him for, and the X Division Title is going to be his again.

NEW NWA Champion AJ Styles comes out to open the show. Before he can say anything, Jeff Jarrett comes out and says this is all a sham, because Tito was a biased referee. He says that title shot shouldn't go to Abyss, it should go to him, and he wants his rematch. Monty Brown comes from the crowd, and he attacks AJ from behind! They beat on him, BUT ABYSS RUNS OUT! He clears the ring, but then hits AJ with the Black Hole Slam! They then all beat on AJ and leave.

In the back, Dusty is waiting for Jeff and Monty and Abyss, and says Jeff can have his rematch, but he'll have it inside KING OF THE MOUNTAIN II against AJ, Abyss, Monty, and a mystery opponent! Dusty leaves and Jeff starts asking how stupid he is to put AJ in there with him in HIS match with two of his friends to help him. Yeah, what the fuck Dusty?

Larry Zbyszko is on commentary, but Raven comes out! Raven says he shouldn't even have to come out here and ask to be the wild card, and he tells Larry to put him into the match or this show becomes a blood bath. Larry says he doesn't know who it is, and Raven says he can at least tell him no to his face, and he shoves him. So Larry then starts beating up Raven, but Raven easily overpowers him. He throws him in and says if he can't be the champion, he'll be the destruction of this company, and he Evenflows him! Dusty comes out with security, and he says Raven won't be either of those things and he suspends him!

Match #2: Christopher Daniels vs. Cassidy Riley
Good showcase. Angel's Wings gets the job done.
*3/4

Michael Shane runs out, and he attacks Daniels! Chris Sabin comes out for the save, but he accidentally hits Daniels at a point. All three start fighting, and security comes out to break up the three men.

NEXT WEEK: AJ/ANY PARTNER HE WANTS VS. JARRETT/MONTY

Match #3: America's Most Wanted vs Petey Williams/Eric Young w/ Scott D'Amore & A1 [#1 Contender's Match]
Good stuff. AMW sells their frustration well, making mistakes that they normally wouldn't. Another good Eric Young performance here. AMW has a great finishing run and they try the PowerPlex, but A1 grabs Harris' leg from the floor and trips him, allowing Petey to then get Storm into a Huracanrana to steal it.
**1/2

Jeff Jarrett comes out to do commentary.

Match #4: Abyss vs. Chris Sabin
This actually gets time and is a really fun big/little main event vs. cruiserweight type match. Sabin has to stick and move and has success with it, but then when he gets caught, he gets destroyed. Huge bumps. Sabin can only come back by going to the air. Abyss actually might have given him too much, but it was entertaining. Black Hole Slam ends it.
**3/4

Jarrett comes out to raise his hand, BUT ABYSS HITS HIM WITH THE BLACK HOLE SLAM TOO! YEAH!

This is the final show on FSN, thank God. There's no Impact until 6/24, the week AFTER Slammiversary, when they finally realized they can just put the episodes online to build PPVs.

Match #1: America's Most Wanted vs. Ron Killings/BG James
Both teams have a little dissension and miscommunication. This is still mostly really good, since there's always a good wrestler in the ring for every pairing. Only 3 minutes or so, but had good wrestling and got both stories across. Storm tries to slide Harris a chair, but he doesn't pick it up fast enough and Killings gives him the Scissors Kick into the chair to win.
**

Harris and Storm argue post-match as they leave.

The Outlaw comes out to attack Truth, since BG is down on the floor, but Konnan runs out to attack Outlaw, and he bails.

Tenay says that Sean Waltman will be AJ's partner tonight!

Match #2: Lance Hoyt vs. Bruno
This is Bruno of Phi Delta Slam. Roode and D'Amore come out to watch this horrible squash. Hoyt wins with a Moonsault.
1/2*

The other fat piece of shit runs down and he gets laid out with a Big Boot. Roode runs down from the other entrance, and he hits Hoyt with a hockey stick from behind.

In the back, The Naturals say they have a new advisor, but they aren't telling anybody who it is before the time is right.

A recap airs of Raven's suspension.

Match #3: The Naturals vs. David Young/Lex Lovett
Pardon the pun, but The Naturals are not natural babyfaces. Young has some cool power spots. The Natural Disaster wins the match.
*1/2

Team Canada of Petey, EY, and A1 comes out immediately, and they lay out The Naturals.

Match #4: AJ Styles/Sean Waltman vs. Jeff Jarrett/Monty Brown
Good stuff. Glad they're finally letting AJ work TV again. It's felt a little like they're trying to rob him of WOTY. Waltman brought it again, and AJ was AJ. Good control seg on Waltman. AJ has a real good hot tag, and yeah. Jeff tries to use the guitar, but AJ moves and he hits Monty! Waltman takes out Jeff, and AJ hits Monty with the Spiral Tap to win.

TNA SLAMMIVERSARY 2005
JUNE 19TH, 2005
ORLANDO, FL

To open the show, clips air from the pre-show. Larry announces that Dusty has stepped down as DOA and Sean Waltman is the mystery guy in KOTM. Jeff Jarrett comes out to protest, but Raven comes out and says he deserves it more and he beat Waltman last month. Jarrett threw a fit and says none of this is fair. The fans chanted at him to get out apparently, and Raven and Jarrett began to fight. Jeff bailed out, and Jeff hit a fan who was heckling him (SAL RINAURO!), AND JARRETT WAS ARRESTED! Raven said to put him in now, and it's his destiny, and Larry was upset, but said he has nobody else, and he puts him in the match!

Match #1: Elix Skipper vs. Amazing Red vs. Delirious vs. Jerrelle Clark vs. Shark Boy vs. Zach Gowen
Fun 6 minutes of spots to open the show. Not really special or anything, the Tower of Doom still sucks, but it did the job it needed to do and got the crowd all hyped up with cool moves. Shark Boy beats Delirious with the Dead Sea Drop, capitalizing on his brief fame at the time due to the lawsuit with the movie Shark Boy.
**1/2

In the back, Shane interviews Shocker. He says he came to TNA for competition, but Alex Shelley comes over! He says he can do Shocker's precious lucha libre just as well as him, and hell, he can do every style their is, because he's got an unholy amount of talent. WRONG, ALEX. YOU HAVE TALENT ON LOAN FROM GOD. JUST BECAUSE THAT PIECE OF SHIT SHAWN MICHAELS STOLE IT ON RAW DOESN'T MEAN YOU CAN'T SAY IT!

Match #2: Alex Shelley vs. Shocker
Fantastic Shelley carryjob, only letting Shocker do matwork and lucha. Shocker does put forth his best effort yet though, so he gets a little credit. Some really crisp kicks and cool spots by him. West does a great job getting over that Shelley is owning Shocker at his own style. Shocker gets a flash mouse trap cradle for the win, but Shelley comes out looking great.
**3/4

GREATEST TNA MOMENTS, #5: AJ BEATS JARRETT FOR THE TITLE, 6/11/2003

In the back, Truth and Konnan ask where BG's head and heart are and where his loyalty is. BG says they'll see where he is tonight, and there'll be no more questions about his integrity or where he stands.

Match #3: Ron Killings vs. Kip James
Tenay says Kip changed his name because he and BG are like brothers. This was alright. Better than expected, certainly, and Truth did most of the work here to make it not awful. Truth wins with the Scissors Kick.
**

James attacks him post-match, and he brings a chair in. BG and Konnan come out, and Kip hands BG the chair. He turns around and offers himself up for a chair shot, but BG won't do it. Konnan attacks him though, and they fight. Kip bails out, and Konnan and BG argue, and Konnan walks out on him. You know, I have absolutely no interest in the matches this leads to, but the build has been very good.

GREATEST TNA MOMENTS, #4: RAVEN DEBUTS, 1/29/2003

Match #4: The Naturals [c] vs. Petey Williams/Eric Young w/ Scott D'Amore & A1 [NWA World Tag Team Championship]
Eric's backne is plentiful. This is technically fine, but uninteresting as a whole due to the Naturals being terrible faces. I think part of that is because of how unlikeable they are, which had helped them be fine heels in the past. Good finishing run, and Canada's interference is countered as Jimmy Hart comes out! He throws the blond one the megaphone and he hits Petey with it for the win. God fucking damnit. Jimmy Hart? Really?
**

GREATEST TNA MOMENTS, #3: Lockdown. Really?

In the back, Shane interviews Sean Waltman and asks how he got this shot, and he says he's one hell of a politician, as Shane might know. AHAHAHA YES. He says he deserves it as much as anyone, and it's every man for himself, and he'll do what he has to do to get that belt.

Match #5: Samoa Joe vs. Sonjay Dutt
THE CHAMP IS HERE! This was AMAZING for a 6 minute mauling. I have missed watching Peak Joe SO MUCH. God damn, this was fucking great. Joe gets the Muscle Buster and the Choke for the win.
**3/4

NO SURRENDER: JULY 17TH!

Match #6: Bobby Roode w/ Scott D'Amore vs. Lance Hoyt
This was actually pretty good! Hoyt is far from great, but he's at least motivated here and is decent. Roode looks great on offense. Good finishing run and D'Amore causes a distraction so that Roode can hit the Northern Lariat for the win.
**1/4

They keep attacking him, but Hoyt fights back! AND HE CHOKESLAMS D'AMORE TO A HUUUUUUUUUUGE POP! The rest of Team Canada comes out, and Hoyt leaves before fighting a 4 on 1. D'Amore is then stretchered out.

GREATEST TNA MOMENTS, #2: Jeff Hardy debuts, 6/23/2005. I get it, the list is going in reverse.

Match #7: America's Most Wanted vs. BG James/Konnan
Good 7 minutes. Konnan feels motivated. AMW seems to have patched things up, but Konnan and BG have not. Near the end, Kip James comes out and attacks Konnan on the floor. BG doesn't know it, and AMW is able to hit him with the Death Sentence to win.
**1/4

AMW leaves, and Konnan gets back in after Kip walks up the ramp. BG asks Konnan what that was and Konnan tries to plead his case now, but this time, BG walks out on him! Kip is waiting on the ramp for him, but he shakes his head, and he leaves through the crowd instead.

GREATEST TNA MOMENTS, #1: Elix walks the cage, Turning Point

Match #8: Christopher Daniels [c] vs. Chris Sabin vs. Michael Shane w/ Tracy [TNA X Division Championship - Elimination Match]
This was pretty great. Really well laid out with a lot of cool spots. Shane looked the best he's looked so far, and Sabin and Daniels both continued to be great. Trinity comes out to get rid of Tracy when she interferes, and Sabin eliminates Shane with the Cradle Shock. We then get 6-7 minutes of awesome Daniels/Sabin stuff. Lots of great counters and shit, and Daniels retains with the Angel's Wings.
***

Hype video for the main event.

Match #9: AJ Styles [c] vs. Raven vs. Sean Waltman vs. Abyss vs. Monty Brown [NWA World Heavyweight Championship - King of the Mountain Match]
This match format is still inherently flawed, but this was better than last year due to having less bullshit time killing. I won't go into all the pinfalls and what not. They have a good mix of high flyers and big men and brawlers. AJ and Waltman teamed up a lot (until Waltman turned on him right before he almost won), and Raven stuck back and kept just taking advantage of everything until Abyss laid waste to him. Lots of cool spots. Abyss pushes AJ and Sean off a ladder to the floor. AND MONTY HITS THE POOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNCE. AND RAVEN OUT OF NOWHERE WITH THE EVENFLOW! He's still fucked up though and Abyss is up first. He gets the belt and climbs up, but Raven gets up on the other side. Abyss almost has the belt locked, BUT RAVEN GETS HIGHER AND KICKS HIM IN THE FACE! RAVEN GRABS THE BELT FROM HIM AS HE GOES DOWN, AND RAVEN WINS THE FUCKING BELT! FINALLY!

Match #1: James Storm vs. Michael Shane

Harris and Tracy were there too, but they both get ejected. They get like 8 minutes and have a very solid match. Tracy comes back down with Alex Shelley and she gets him to interfere. It distracts Storm, and he turns into the Superkick from Shane and Shane gets the win.
**1/2

A pretape airs with Tenay talking to Truth and Konnan, and BG James is not there. Tenay says BG opted to no-show this interview. Truth says BG gave his word, and he ain't here. Konnan says it hurts, and he says he made a mistake at Slammiversary, but BG's indecisiveness has driven a wedge here. Kip James comes on with Monty Brown and Monty is doing a horrible BG impression. They then attack 3LK from behind and Monty does the full Outlaws shtick.

Match #2: Shark Boy vs. David Young
Short little match here, but not bad at all. Sharkie wins with the DSD.
*1/2

In the back, Jarrett yells at Larry that the title shot belongs to him at No Surrender, but Larry says he's proven nothing and says Abyss or AJ or Waltman or Monty could get that shot, not to mention new talent that could come in. He says Jeff will be waiting in line for a long time, and Jeff walks off yelling.

Match #3: Samoa Joe vs. Delirious
Awesome squash. Tons of insanely brutal stuff. Muscle Buster and Choke gets the job done.
**1/4

Match #4: Christopher Daniels vs. Elix Skipper

This is great, once again. Not as great as Lockdown, but still of a very high quality. During this, Tenay announces Joe/Sabin for No Surrender. Daniels has some great work on the neck. Skipper doesn't really sell it at all, but has a good comeback. Daniels gets the Koji Clutch for the submission win.
**3/4

NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEW World Champion FUCKING RAVEN comes out. No idea why they held off on this so long, it fits perfectly. He says he has risen from the ashes and he has endured everything thrown in his path over the last two years. BECAUSE HE HAS JUST FULFILLED HIS DESTINY! FUCK YEAH! AND FATHER JAMES MITCHELL COMES OUT! HE SAYS HE'S BACK, AND THEY AREN'T DONE! AND ABYSS COMES FROM BEHIND AND HE HITS THE BLACK HOLE SLAM! Abyss starts choking him with his chain as Mitchell applauds to end the show. Fantastic show.

Match #1: Sean Waltman vs. Sonjay Dutt

Good showcase for Waltman. Dutt is acceptable again. Tenay says that it's now AJ/Waltman at No Surrender, as AJ feels like Waltman cost him the title. Waltman continues to look the best he has since 2001, and ends up winning with the X Factor.
**1/4

Raven vs. Abyss is announced for No Surrender for the belt!

TONIGHT: AJ vs. Shelley!

In the back, Taylor interviews Team Canada. Roode says D'Amore is in the hospital and Petey says they're going to make the Coach proud, and he's the Captain, and they're going to destroy Lance Hoyt and prove that they're just as strong on their own.

Match #2: Lance Hoyt vs. Eric Young w/ Petey Williams
Decent Hoyt match. Eric takes huge huge bumps and then loses to the Big Boot.
*3/4

The rest of Team Canada comes out and they gang up on Hoyt, but the Naturals run out to make the save! They get on the mic and challenge Team Canada to a six man at No Surrender.

Killings/Konnan vs. Monty/Kip is also announced for the PPV.

Match #3: Abyss w/ Father James Mitchell vs. Sonny Siaki
I won't lie. This wasn't good. Siaki is horrible and got in too much offense. I get the point of this though, Abyss dominates a midcarder who has always been booked strong to get over Mitchell's influence. Would have been more effective and produce a better match with a 3LK member, but whatevs. Abyss wins with the Black Hole Slam.
*3/4

Apolo comes out to try and save, but Abyss lays him out too. He gets the chain, but Raven comes out and grabs it from him. He beats him with it until he leaves the ring, and Raven challenges him to make their match into a Dog Collar Match at No Surrender!

Match #4: America's Most Wanted vs. Simon Diamond/Trytan
Trytan is still easily the worst wrestler on the roster. Jeff Jarrett comes out to ruin the match by arguing with Tenay about his title rematch. Although at least he chose a total nothing match to do this in. For the 3 minutes this went, about 2:30 was spent focusing on Jeff by the camera. AMW eventually gets Diamond with the Death Sentence to win.
3/4*

In the back, Terry interviews Daniels. He says he's beaten Mexico's finest, and he's beaten AJ, Sabin, Shane, and Skipper. He says he feels like Alexander the Great, because he has no more worlds to conquer after beating them all. Petey Williams comes over and says he hasn't beaten Canada yet. Daniels says Lance Hoyt is no Chris Daniels, but if he's stupid enough to want a title shot, he can have one at No Surrender, and he'll beat Canada too.

Sean Waltman comes out to do commentary.

Match #5: AJ Styles vs. Alex Shelley
And this was great. No surprise there. Great matwork, bumping from both dudes, etc. Shelley is getting to show off his offense a lot more in this TNA run, which is nice. AJ wins with the Styles Clash.
***

Sean comes out to congratulate AJ, but he shoves Waltman. They almost fight, but referees and Jerry Lynn come out to calm them down.

Match #1: Chris Sabin vs. David Young

Decent short Sabin showcase. During this, Tenay and DW announce Joe vs. Sabin for No Surrender. Samoa Joe comes out to watch at the end. Cradle Shock gets the win.
*3/4

Samoa Joe gets in the ring now, and he chokes out Sabin very easily, and shoves his unconscious face with his foot before walking out. Fuck yeah, Joe.

The Dog Collar stipulation is confirmed for Raven/Abyss at No Surrender.

In the back, Larry talks to AJ Styles and says the thing with he and Waltman may get out of hand at No Surrender based on the end of the show last week, so he's gotten a man they both know and respect to be the special referee, and it will be Jerry Lynn! He says that way they can settle this and both move on, and they shake hands on it, signifying that AJ seems to be okay with this.

In the back, Terry interviews AMW. Harris says they've proven themselves to be the best tag team in wrestling, and the boat may rock every once and a while, but they're still as strong as ever. Storm says Shelley and Shane run around like the king turds of poo poo town, but if they want a fight, they're open 24/7/365 and twice on Sunday, and they're more than willing to beat their asses at No Surrender.

A Mikey Batts match is up, but instead of an opponent, Jeff Jarrett comes from behind, and he hits him with the guitar. He says he doesn't like that Larry said about new talent coming to TNA, especially without his permission, because all of this belongs to him. He says Raven is holding his belt, and Abyss is holding his rightful NWA Title shot, and it's only a matter of time until things are right on Planet Jarrett. Yes, but in the meantime, let's enjoy this wonderful run TNA is on. FUCK YEAH PRO WRESTLING IN THE SUMMER OF 2005!

Match #2: Samoa Joe vs. Elix Skipper vs. Shark Boy
Good stuff here. Joe is a killer once again, and they realize they have to team up if they want to stand any kind of chance. Joe hangs on though, and ends up laying waste to both of them. Shark Boy gets beaten after the Muscle Buster and the Choke.
**1/4

Christopher Daniels comes out to do commentary.

Match #3: Petey Williams vs. Amazing Red
This is not bad or anything, which is an accomplishment for these two. Red has some awesome spots. Daniels spits the hot fire on commentary, saying the Canadian Destroyer is pretty, but it's distracted everyone from how little skill Petey Williams has otherwise, and once he takes the Destroyer away, Petey is nothing. Fuck yeah. Petey wins with the Destroyer.
**

Almost like he heard him, Petey puts on the Sharpshooter on Red and stares down Daniels.

Match #4: Abyss w/ Father James Mitchell vs. Cassidy Riley
Short Abyss squash.
*1/4

Raven comes out with a chain to attack Abyss, but a ton of security comes out to stop the two from touching. Abyss is able to break through though, and he hits Raven with the chain. He gets it around him, AND HE HANGS RAVEN OVER THE TOP ROPE WITH THE CHAIN! He keeps choking him before all the security has to pull him off.

Match #5: The Naturals/Lance Hoyt w/ Jimmy Hart vs. Bobby Roode/Eric Young/A1
This is a logical match, but that does not mean it was good. Roode and EY tried, but A1 worked most of this. None of the faces were of much use. Hoyt gets Roode with the Big Boot for the win.

Konnan and Ron Killings come out for their match, but Monty Brown and Kip James run out to attack them from behind, and they fight to the back.

Match #1: Christopher Daniels/Samoa Joe vs. Petey Williams/Eric Young
Best match Petey's been in for some time. Joe busts his nose up, so Joe and Daniels then work on his face. Really really great and violent work there, especially from Joe. Canadians take over on Daniels and Eric again looks pretty great. Joe has a great hot tag, but Daniels tags himself back in. Chris Sabin runs out and he fights to the back with Joe. Daniels is all alone, and Eric hits the Showtime Elbow, and then Petey hits the Destroyer for the win.
**3/4

In the back, Cassidy Riley is on the mic and he thanks Raven for helping him last week. Terry says Raven also broke his fingers, but Riley says Raven introduced him to the pain and it's helped his career, and if Raven ever needs his help, he'll be there for him.

Hype video for Raven/Abyss.

Match #2: Shocker vs. Sonjay Dutt
Shocker is back to not being impressive at all. Dutt sucks at working lucha with Shocker, so yeah. Shocker wins with the mouse trap pin.
*1/4

Hype video for AJ/Waltman, which has Jerry Lynn talking about the match, and says he asked to be the referee so that he can see the match done right.

Match #3: AJ Styles/Sean Waltman vs. Bobby Roode/A1
Neither AJ or Waltman are happy with this. A1 is still the worst, but when Roode was in, this was quite good. Waltman misses a spin kick at the end that hits AJ, and Roode hits the Northern Lariat for the win.
**1/4

AJ and Waltman again nearly come to blows post-match, but it gets broken up.

TNA NO SURRENDER 2005
JULY 17TH, 2005
ORLANDO, FL

Match #1: America's Most Wanted vs. Alex Shelley/Michael Shane w/ Tracy

Great opener. Shelley guides Storm through some awesome matwork to begin, and then Shane gets in. He pisses off AMW, so it turns into this awesome brawl. Lots of great heel moments from both Shelley and Shane, as well as some big awesome spots. Good finishing run in the ring. Shelley gets a tag and rolls over Harris' back to get in, but Storm immediately hits him with the Superkick as he lands for the win.
***

Shane then Superkicks Storm and runs away.

In the back, Douglas interviews Team Canada. Roode says he's going to make Hoyt pay for what he did to their coach, and Petey says the X Title will come back to Canada. Jeff Jarrett comes over and says a lot of these newly released people could be coming here and he wants to know what side they're on, and Petey says they're with him. He leaves and Petey asks if they can trust him, and Roode says not even a little bit.

Match #2: Sonjay Dutt vs. Elix Skipper vs. Shark Boy vs. Mikey Batts [Super X Cup Qualifying Match]
Tenay says the Super X Cup will happen over the next month. This is a fine enough spotfest. Everyone chants "MIKEY SUCKS". Fuck yeah. Dutt hits the Hindu Press on Batts to win. His backne and hair loss has begun.
**1/2

In the back, Shane interviews Konnan and Truth. They say they haven't talked to or seen BG James in a month, and Konnan says he's lost faith in him, and Truth says he needs to make up his damn mind.

Match #3: Sonny Siaki/Apolo vs. Simon Diamond/David Young
This was at least short. Young had some decent stuff, and then the brown people win.
*1/2

They plug Bound For Glory on 10/23 as TNA's HUGE FUCKING SHOW.

Match #4: Samoa Joe vs. Chris Sabin
Given 14 minutes, Joe puts on the best TNA match I've reviewed yet. Classic big vs. little structure to it, and they did a very smart thing to get it over by having the only pieces of Sabin offense be either off the top, dives, off the apron, or springboard based stuff, and otherwise, he wasn't able to move Joe at all. It's 2005 Joe, so you get a lot of crazy awesome strikes and exchanges. Sabin puts on the babyface performance of his career, and they do an outstanding job gradually getting you to a point where it seems like Sabin COULD win. The build to him finally getting Joe up for the Cradle Shock is fantastic, coming off like if he can get him up in the air, he can win. Then he finally does get him up...and Joe just wastes him with knees to get down, hits the Muscle Buster, and puts on the Choke for the win. He is Samoa Joe. He is Pro Wrestling.
***3/4

SACRIFICE: AUGUST 14TH! This caps off one of the greatest pro wrestling weekends over, as this, ROH Redemption, ROH Punk: The Final Chapter, CHIKARA Negative Balance, and a CZW show where Nate Webb sings all happen within 3 days of each other.

Match #5: Bobby Roode/Eric Young/A1 vs. The Naturals/Lance Hoyt w/ Jimmy Hart
This is fine and all, but it's just sort of whatever after the last match. The crowd stays really hot though, which helps this be way better than expected. Roode and Eric also work most of this, and continue to be a great team. Team Canada won with something? I was watching the Clippers/Memphis game more intently than this. Lets say it was the Northern Lariat.
**1/4

Hype video for the 3LK match.

Match #6: Ron Killings/Konnan vs. Monty Brown/Kip James [Street Fight]
Only 6 minutes, so it was good. Several referees get hit here, and they have some cool spots. BG James comes out to the stage to watch band Monty beats Truth with the Pounce.
**1/4

Kip invites BG down, and he comes to the ring. He gives him the chair and BG thinks about it, but he throws it down and walks out. Well okay then.

In the back, Lynn talks about the match.

Match #7: AJ Styles vs. Sean Waltman [Special Referee: Jerry Lynn]
This was great too! Good story with AJ being faster and stronger and Waltman having to use experience to get offense in. Cool offense, and Waltman had a really really amazing dive, probably the dive of the night. Waltman tries to use a chair, but Lynn won't let him. Later on, he tries to grab the ropes to block a sunset flip, but Lynn kicks his arms off. AJ then hits the Styles Clash for the win.
***

In the back, Jarrett yells at Larry to give him his rematch, and Larry again tells him to wait in line.

Hype video for Daniels/Petey.

Match #8: Christopher Daniels [c] vs. Petey Williams w/ A1 [TNA X Division Championship]
Samoa Joe comes out to watch from the stage. Interesting way of doing this that came so close to actually working. They worked it as heel ace vs. younger heel who needs interference. Daniels had some awesome work on the back, but Petey being Petey, he completely fucking ignored it. They then did some stuff. It was pretty good though, and Daniels wins with the BME.
**3/4

Hype video for the main.

Match #9: Raven [c] vs. Abyss w/ Father James Mitchell [NWA World Heavyweight Championship - Dog Collar Match]
This was shockingly great. Nice story of power vs. craftiness, where Raven can only get stuff in by using the collar to his advantage and outmaneuvering Abyss. Some really cool and brutal spots with chairs and tables and tacks throughout. The fact that Raven's body is visibly starting to break down adds another cool dimension to his matches where the only way to keep the title is to further damage his failing body. Tacks come out at the end and Raven has to put himself on them too with the Evenflow to the thumbtacks to get the win.
***1/4

Jeff Jarrett comes out with the guitar as Raven gets up, BUT RHINO HITS THE RING FROM THE OTHER SIDE, AND RAVEN GETS THE GORE! GOOOOOOOOOOOOOORE GOOOOOOOOOOOOORE GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORE GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORE! Jarrett gets in the ring and shakes hands with Rhino and he beats on Raven to end the show.

This pretty much has to be the best TNA PPV ever.

Match #1: Lance Hoyt vs. Shark Boy

This is about 45 seconds before Abyss and Mitchell come out, and Abyss destroys both of them.

Mitchell gets on the mic and says he has the weapon of mass destruction and he holds the detonator, and when he clicks the button, it will be doomsday for TNA. YES! IT'S COMING!

SUPER X CUP BRACKET:

Joe/Dutt
Shelley/Shocker
Sabin/Petey
AJ/Shane

Christopher Daniels comes out to do commentary.

Match #2: Samoa Joe vs. Sonjay Dutt [Super X Cup - Quarterfinals]
More of a mauling than at Joe's debut and shorter, but it did the job it needed to do and Joe looks awesome. Dutt took huge bumps and had some nice spots on his comeback. Joe hits the Muscle Buster and then wins with the Choke.
**1/2

Don West tries to interview Joe post-match, but he refuses and walks off.

Match #3: Monty Brown/Kip James vs. Sonny Siaki/Apolo
I'm not going to lie, this was the rare HORRIBLE match in this summer 2005 run of Impact. Most of the outright poor stuff if just squashes or things sacrificed for a point. This got 4-5 minutes and was clunky and awkward and just bad. The heels win.
3/4*

Killings and Konnan run out, and they attack the heels.

In the back, Waltman and Lynn are arguing, Sean says if he wants in his business so badly, then maybe he'll jump right in at Sacrifice, so he can beat him again just like he always used to, and Lynn accepts.

Raven comes out and he gets on the mic. He says he proved he can outlast Abyss and take more punishment than him. He says he guesses Jarrett and Rhino are pals now, and if Jarrett wants to talk real about all the new talent coming in and him building this place, the truth is, Jarrett has always been afraid of him and the fact that it wasn't until he got here and declared what his destiny was that TNA really took off, and he's been dodging another match with him for the last two years. He says he now realizes that TNA isn't big enough for the two of them, and one of them is going to have to go. He challenges Jeff to fight him one more time, and Jarrett comes out. He gets to the ring and says it looks like Raven still doesn't have any friends, but he does, and Rhino AGAIN comes from the other side with the GORE GORE GORE GORE! Jarrett then puts on the Figure Four until referees and people come out to pull him off.

NEXT WEEK: Sabin/Petey and Shelley/Shocker!

Before the main event, Michael Shane says due to some ridiculous legal issues, he now has to change his wrestling name to Matt Bentley.

Match #4: AJ Styles vs. Matt Bentley w/ Tracy [Super X Cup - Quarterfinals]
This is pretty awesome. Duh? AJ does stuff, but then hurts his arm. Bentley has some solid work on the arm, and AJ's selling is pretty good. No real finishing run though, as Shane tries to use a chair as Tracy distracts the ref with her man jaw, but James Storm runs out and Superkicks Shane. AJ then gets the cover for the win.

Match #1: Sonjay Dutt vs. Elix Skipper vs. Shark Boy

Decent 4-5 minute spotfest to open the show. None of the three are really bad at all, but they're all sort of missing something. Dutt hits a Standing Contra Code on Sharkie for the win.
**

In the back, Larry talks to BG James. He says he's booked a 3LK vs. Monty/Kip rematch for Sacrifice, but due to how out of control it got last time, none of his referees are willing to referee the match, no matter what. So given his involvement in the whole situation, he's going to make him the special referee at Sacrifice, so they can all settle their issue.

Match #2: Alex Shelley vs. Shocker [Super X Cup - Quarterfinals]
Another great carryjob of Shocker by @LX $. Lots of cool lucha, and totally different from their match in June. Shelley has a pretty awesome Tope Suicida here, further proving the Tope Suicida Theorem (which says if I made a list of my top 25 or so wrestlers, at least 50% would have done a killer Tope Suicida a few times). Anyways yeah, lots of cool stuff. Shelley beats Shocker with his own mouse trap cradle.
**3/4

In the back, Abyss and Mitchell are standing by. He says Abyss isn't keen on waiting in line for another title shot. He says he has no idea why Abyss chose Lance Hoyt, but he was in the wrong place at the wrong time, and he won't be the last guy with that problem.

NEXT WEEK: Joe/Shelley in the Semi-Finals

Mikey Batts vs. Cassidy Riley goes like 30 seconds. Riley is in a Raven shirt and cutoff jorts, looking a lot like Flock era Stevie Richards. Anyways, Jeff Jarrett and Rhino come out, and they destroy both of them. They both get the GORE GORE GORE GORE and Riley gets The Stroke. Jarrett calls out Raven to look at this, and he comes onto the stage with the mic. He says apparently they've decided to eradicate him in a handicap situation, which makes sense, since he has few friends in life, and none in TNA, and it'll probably stay that way forever. He says there's no friend he can call on to be his partner, SO AN ENEMY WILL HAVE TO DO!

THE LIGHTS GO OUT!

Posted Image

SABU HITS RHINO WITH A CHAIR! HE THROWS IT AT JARRETT TOO, AND RHINO GETS THE TRIPLE JUMP MOONSAULT! Rhino and Jarrett bail out, and Raven says it looks like things are evened up at Sacrifice.

Match #3: James Storm vs. Matt Bentley w/ Tracy
This got time, and was good. They teased the Superkicks of both men very well. Hilariously, when all of the build is about the Superkick, Storm ends up winning with the 8 Second Ride instead. Even in their greatest run, their are moments of LOLTNA-ness. Oh well.
**1/2

Match #4 Chris Sabin vs. Petey Williams w/ A1 [Super X Cup - Quarterfinals]

These two once again work really well together. Sabin knows Petey well enough to know he can't work any kind of story or limb work with him, so they just do a lot of cool spots. Sabin has a beautiful dive, and the finishing run is good. A1 interferes and Petey hits the Canadian Destroyer to win.

Match #1: Samoa Joe vs. Alex Shelley [Super X Cup - Semi-Finals]

So this was great. One of the most interesting parts of booking an unstoppable monster type is that eventually, if done right, he might have to fight another heel, and you get a unique clash of a wrecking machine and a craftier wrestler. Shelley really only stands a chance in a pure mat wrestling match, so he keeps Joe on the mat and works the arm. He can't contend with Joe striking his way out though, so he tries to take to the air. But he can't even knock him down unless he gets like 3 or 4 shots in, and Joe eventually catches him up top. Muscle Buster and the Choke end it.
***

A hype video airs for Lynn/Waltman.

In the back, Douglas interviews Cassidy Riley. He says Raven's saved him twice now and it proves Raven cares about him. Shane says he knows Raven, and he doesn't care about anyone, but Cassidy doesn't believe him.

Match #2: The Naturals [c] vs. Bobby Roode/Eric Young w/ A1 [NWA World Tag Team Championship]
This was better than the Petey/EY vs. Nats match, since Roode and Eric are way better. Eric takes a ton of awesome bumps, and they have a good control seg. The Naturals continue to show absolutely nothing as babyfaces. Team Canada has some awesome offense on the control seg, and there's no reason they shouldn't be champions. The Naturals then frame Roode with the megaphone so they retain by DQ. BULLSHIT.
**1/2

Team Canada beats down the Naturals, but AMW runs out to make the save! WHOA!

Match #3: Abyss w/ Father James Mitchell vs. Apolo
Good squash for Abyss.
*1/2

Hoyt comes out on the stage, and he says he wants Abyss at Sacrifice!

Match #4: Raven/Sabu vs. Simon Diamond/David Young
Tenay says Diamond and Young have formed a stable called the DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH. Awful. Young is still pretty decent though, and this was a fine showcase for Raven and Sabu going into the PPV. Raven hits David with the Evenflow, and Sabu hits the Arabian Facebreaker for the win.

Jarrett and Rhino run out, and both teams brawl to end the show.

Match #1: Matt Bentley w/ Tracy vs. Shark Boy

Short match, like 90 seconds, and Bentley hits the Superkick to win.
*1/2

In the back, Shane is with Shocker, and he challenges Shelley to a rubber match at Sacrifice.

Christopher Daniels comes out to do commentary.

Match #2: AJ Styles vs. Petey Williams w/ A1 [Super X Cup - Semi-Finals]
AJ and Sabin are running neck and neck, not only for who can carry Petey the most, but for the #1 spot in 2005. Daniels is mad on commentary that people still think AJ Styles IS the X Division when in a matter of days, he'll have had this title longer than anyone else. This was good stuff, but only 6 minutes or so, as opposed to the 11 minutes Petey/Sabin got. AJ counters a Sharpshooter try into an inside cradle to win.
**1/2

AJ VS. JOE IN THE FINALS THIS SUNDAY, GOOD LORD

In the back, Abyss jumps Lance Hoyt and lays him out. Mitchell says they said it wasn't personal, but now he's made it that way, and on Sunday, Abyss will crush him like the leech that he is.

Match #3: Monty Brown vs. Elix Skipper
Nice match for a 3 minute Monty showcase. Elix had some nice pieces of offense, and then Monty hits the Pounce to win. Best Monty squash of the year so far.
**

Match #4: America's Most Wanted vs. Simon Diamond/David Young

Good for what it was. Mostly an angle, but it was done well. Tenay says AMW are helping The Naturals get rid of Team Canada so that maybe with them out of the way, they can get a title shot again. The Canadians run out as AMW is getting ready to end it, AND ERIC GETS A LOW BLOW ON STORM WITH THE HOCKEY STICK! DAVID GETS THE SPINEBUSTER FOR A WIN HOLY SHIT!
**

It turns into a 4 on 2, but The Naturals run out for the save now! One of them gets on the mic, and challenges Team Canada to an 8 man tag match at Sacrifice.

Match #5: Rhino vs. Chris Sabin
Sabin is the perfect guy to put Rhino over. He can take huge bumps to make him look awesome, but is also fiery and credible enough to take him to the limit with both men coming out looking pretty good. It's far from 2001 for Rhino, but he looked the most motivated he's looked since the tag matches with Benoit in early 2003. He has some good power offense and also bumps around well. This got actually very good by the end, so good for them! Rhino hits the GORE GORE GORE GORE GORE for the win.
**3/4

Rhino sets up a table in the corner, but Raven comes out to fight him! Jarrett comes out to attack Raven, and that brings out Sabu. They have a nice little brawl, and Jarrett puts Raven into the Figure Four, and Rhino GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORES Sabu through the table to end the show.

TNA SACRIFICE 2005
AUGUST 14TH, 2005
ORLANDO, FL

To open the show, Tenay and West announce that Impact will be coming to Spike TV on October 1st! So we now have a date for when the fantastic run will most likely stop. :( They also say a stipulation was added to the main event. If Jarrett pins Raven, he gets a title shot at Unbreakable next month, but if Jarrett is pinned by Raven, he doesn't get a title shot for a full year. OH MY GOD, LET'S GO RAVEN!

The Diamonds in the Rough come out for the opening match, and Diamond introduces their third member, Elix Skipper!

Match #1: Chris Sabin/Sonjay Dutt/Shark Boy vs. Simon Diamond/Elix Skipper/David Young
Fine opener. Simon stays out of the way (:() and Skipper and Young get to do some cool stuff. Sabin is a solid anchor for the faces, and Dutt continues to show improvement by being decent as your 3rd tier babyface (let's say Sabin is 2nd tier and AJ is 1st). Sabin beats Elix with the Cradle Shock.
**1/2

In the back, The Naturals cut some kind of a promo. Jeff Jarrett comes over to try and get them to be on his side in this whole new talent thing, and Jimmy Hart says he's just being paranoid. They leave and Jarrett says maybe he can talk some sense into AMW.

Match #2: Alex Shelley vs. Shocker
Another really good match in this series. The best one yet. Shocker keeps working the knee to slow Shelley's speed, which is what got him in the last match. Shelley takes a ton of great bumps and sells really well. Shocker tries the mouse trap pin again, but Shelley is able to counter to a pin of his own, and he gets his good foot on the middle rope to push down to steal the pin! FUCK YEAH!
***

Hype video for Abyss/Hoyt.

Match #3: Abyss w/ Father James Mitchell vs. Lance Hoyt
Hoyt is now in indy shorts and randomly makes with cool high flying to make this a surprisingly good big man battle. Hoyt randomly breaks out a fucking Van Terminator near the end. Some more stuff happens, and Abyss wins with the Black Hole Slam.
**1/2

Hype video for the 3LK tag.

Match #4: Ron Killings/Konnan vs. Monty Brown/Kip James [Special Referee: BG James]
This is once again better than expected, but not as good as the Street Fight last month. Killings is once again carrying his team. BG is unbiased, and won't let either side use a chair. Gunn shoves BG when he takes it from him and shoves him, SO BG HITS KIP! YEAH?! Konnan then hits Kip with the chair and BG counts three.
**

3LK celebrates together.

BOUND FOR GLORY: OCTOBER 23RD!

Match #5: Christopher Daniels vs. Austin Aries
Aries won an internet poll over Strong, Lethal, and Sydal over who should face Daniels. This gets 10 minutes and is all about making Aries look awesome. He has a ton of really crisp and dynamic offense, and Daniels does a great job making him look great. Some great Aries selling and also payback spots. Daniels wins with Angel's Wings.
***

In the back, Shane talks to AMW. They say they don't like The Naturals, but as long as Team Canada is in the picture, they won't get a fair title shot like they deserve. Jeff Jarrett comes over and says tonight could be huge for all of them, and says TNA is going to Spike and there will be changes before then. He says along with him, and some others, they're the cornerstones here, and absolutely the best tag team in TNA history and they're all in danger of losing their jobs. Storm says they don't trust anybody, not him, and not management. Jarrett says they're talking to big tag team names too, and Harris wants some proof.

Hype for Lynn/Waltman.

Match #6: Sean Waltman vs. Jerry Lynn
Lots of fun here. They don't try any kind of real story for the most part, just an awesome back and forth match. Really crisp stuff, and Waltman reigns in Lynn's more bullshit spots. Waltman goes after the arm when Lynn gets close to a win. They have some really huge spots, and Lynn's selling is actually very good. Lynn rolls through a slam into a pin to get the win.
***

They shake hands, BUT WALTMAN HITS AN ARMBREAKER! YEAH! He brings a chair in, but the X Division babyfaces come out to save.

Match #7: Petey Williams/Bobby Roode/Eric Young/A1 vs. America's Most Wanted/The Naturals w/ Jimmy Hart
This was fine enough, I suppose. AMW and Roode/EY carried their respective teams and the bulk of the work. Good finishing run of spots and nearfalls. Storm gets rid of Eric Young and the hockey stick, but then Roode rolls up Stevens with the tights for the win.
**1/2

AMW and The Naturals argue post-match.

In the back, Shane interviews Samoa Joe, but he refuses to say anything, and he walks away. BECAUSE HE IS SAMOA JOE, AND HE IS PRO WRESTLING.

Christopher Daniels comes out to do commentary.

Match #8: Samoa Joe vs. AJ Styles [Super X Cup - Finals]
So hey yeah, this was fucking great. This is the closest that indies ever came to Vader vs. Sting. That same kind of dynamic of the ace trying to defend his spot against a completely unbeatable monster. Cena/Umaga is amazing for that kind of a match, but despite it being one of the best matches ever, there was never that real sense of danger of the bigger guy winning. Here, and with Sting/Vader, it feels almost inevitable at the start, and they gradually make you believe it's more and more possible. All the usual amazing AJ/Joe spots. Crazy strike exchanges, etc. Ref bump happens, and Daniels gets in. He hits Styles and goes to hit Joe with the belt, but Joe sees it. Daniels backs up and AJ clotheslines him out, but then turns into the Muscle Buster, and Joe wins with the Choke.
***3/4

Hype video for the main.

Match #9: Raven/Sabu vs. Jeff Jarrett/Rhino
This is basically No DQ with these four. Except they also weirdly had a legal tag rule enforced. This held it back from being a truly amazing brawl, but it was still very very good, with way more great stuff than bad stuff. Lots of cool Sabu stuff, and Raven and Rhino both also delivered. Jarrett was sort of just a guy on the apron here. Sabu was about to win, BUT ABYSS RUNS OUT, AND HE CHOKESLAMS SABU THROUGH A TABLE ON THE FLOOR! Jarrett gets a chair, BUT JEFF HARDY COMES OUT AND HITS ABYSS WITH A CHAIR! HE HITS JARRETT WITH IT TOO AND HITS THE SWANTON BOMB! He leaves, and Raven slowly gets up. He tries an Evenflow on Jeff, BUT RHINO GORES HIM THROUGH A TABLE AND GETS THE PIN!

In the recap of Sacrifice to open the show, Raven/Rhino for the belt at Unbreakable is announced.

Match #1: Samoa Joe vs. Jerrelle Clark
Awesome Joe showcase. Him starting by just standing in the middle with his arms out, daring Jerrelle to go first, was fucking amazing. Joe then murders him and wins with the Choke.
**

Christopher Daniels runs out and he hits Joe with the belt several times in the back to knock him down. AJ Styles runs out and attacks Daniels. He runs him off, and then also clotheslines Samoa Joe out to the floor!

In the back, Jarrett goes to Larry and demands a title shot. He says if he can get Rhino to step aside and give him the shot, then he can have the shot, and he's tired of this thing. Rhino comes over and Jeff says he knows he needs to be NWA Champion for the Spike TV debut, and he asks Rhino to delay his title shot for a month and let him have it. Rhino says no, but says Jarrett can have the first title shot once he wins the belt. Well, he wasn't lying. :(

Tenay announces the CANDIDO CUP TAG TOURNAMENT! The idea is to pair a veteran or established guywith a young guy in each team, so here's the bracket:

-Shocker/Sabin vs. Diamond/Batts
-BG James/Riley vs. Killings/Dutt
-Waltman/Shelley vs. Abyss/Shark Boy
-Kip James/Petey Williams vs. Konnan/Lance Hoyt

Apart from Shocker/Sabin, where both guys are on the same level, most of those fit the criteria.

Match #2: Chris Sabin/Shocker vs. Simon Diamond/Mikey Batts [Candido Cup Quarterfinals]
This happens, I guess. Shocker and Sabin have some miscommunication throughout, but the other two are obvious jobbers, so they still win after Sabin gets Batts with the Cradle Shock.
*3/4

Sabin and Shocker leave, and then Diamond walks out on Batts.

In the back, Shane interviews Monty about the 3LK. He says he told Kip that BG couldn't be trusted, but they had to do it his way. He says now they do things the Alpha Male way on this serengeti and Kip James is weak, just like BG. He says he's coming back for the belt, etc.

Match #3: Rhino vs. Sonny Siaki
Decent short Rhino squash to hype him up for the title match. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORE ends it.
*1/4

Rhino gets on the mic and yells GORE GORE GORE. He calls Raven out now, and he makes his way out. He says gore him once, shame on him, but gore him twice, shame on you. He comes out to fight, but security comes out to stop them. Raven pushes them away, allowing Rhino to Gore him again, and then he leaves.

Match #4: Ron Killings/Sonjay Dutt vs. BG James/Cassidy Riley [Candido Cup Quarterfinals]
This was quite fun. Nobody here is really bad, since BG was trying, and every pairing had some nice stuff. BG and Truth didn't want to fight and when Riley got mad at this and hit BG, BG laid him out with the Pumphandle Slam. Dutt then hit the Hindu Press on Riley to win.
**1/4

In the back, Abyss and Father James Mitchell are standing by. Mitchell says at Sacrifice, Sabu was another example and another body in Abyss' path. He says Larry needs to put down the golf clubs and give Abyss his rightful title match, or the TNA roster would continue to suffer. He calls Abyss his weapon of mass destruction, and the end result is obvious if they don't get the title match. CLICK! DOOMSDAY!

Match #5: The Naturals [c] vs. Eric Young/A1 [NWA World Tag Team Championship]
Well, Eric tried. I'm cool with TNA giving tag title matches 10+ minutes usually, but not when that involves an A1 match and The Naturals working face. Petey and Roode come out at the end and they attack The Naturals for the DQ after A1 eats the Natural Disaster.
*1/2

It's a 4 on 2 until AMW runs out to save. They drive Team Canada out, but then The Naturals get mad and they and AMW start to fight amongst themselves.

TNA Impact

Match #1: Sean Waltman/Alex Shelley vs. Abyss/Shark Boy w/ Father James Mitchell [Candido Cup Quarterfinals]

Shelley and Waltman gel together the best of all the CC teams, by far. Fun 3 minute match. Abyss gets in to clean house on them, but then he hits Shark Boy with the Black Hole Slam and wins. Shelley gets the pin to win.
**

Match #2: Simon Diamond/David Young vs. Jerrelle Clark/Mikey Batts

I'm glad they're putting effort into establishing other teams besides Team Canada, AMW, and The Naturals, but Elix/David should be the tag team of this stable instead of Diamond actually wrestling. It's still fine enough, I mean, it's a Jerrelle Clark match. David beats him with the Pinebuster.
*3/4

In the back, Shane interviews Larry about what's going on with the tag team titles at Unbreakable and he books Naturals vs. AMW vs. Team Canada vs. the Candido Cup winners in an elimination match for the belts. Daniels comes in and demands he does something about AJ Styles so he can focus on Samoa Joe, and says he needs to cater to him as Mr. TNA and not only the longest reigning X Division Champion ever, but the heart and soul of TNA. Larry says he's learning to just let things happen here, and if AJ wants in, then fine, and he books a three way.

Match #3: Kip James/Petey Williams vs. Konnan/Lance Hoyt [Candido Cup Quarterfinals]
Well, this was clearly the worst Candido Cup match. The focus was on Gunn vs. Konnan, which just...no. Nope. This is a match where Petey Williams is arguably the best wrestler in the match. That's the worst thing I can say about a TNA match. Konnan and Hoyt advance.
Nothing

SEMI-FINALS:
-Waltman/Shelley vs. Konnan/Hoyt
-Sabin/Shocker vs. Killings/Dutt

In the back, Shane interviews AMW. They say it doesn't matter that there's four teams at Unbreakable, because not only are they the best tag team in TNA history and the most dominating tag team in TNA history, they ARE TNA's tag team division, and the titles are finally coming back home on September 11th.

Before the main event, Roode vs. Jeff Hardy is announced for Unbreakable.

Match #4: Raven vs. Bobby Roode w/ Petey Williams
This was fine enough. TV, match-wise, has been a little weak since Sacrifice, so this is the best one since then. Not weak as in late 2004-spring 2005 weak, where they seemingly put on shitty matches on purpose and crippled good ones, but more based on angles. Raven works the arm a bit, and Roode's selling is good. Roode has a solid, not great, control seg. Petey gets involved, but Cassidy Riley comes out to stop him, and Raven wins with the Evenflow.
**3/4

Rhino comes out to attack, but Raven is ready now. He has him set for the Evenflow, but Abyss runs out! He attacks Raven too, and it's a two on one, BUT THE LIGHTS GO OUT! SABU COMES BACK TO ATTACK ABYSS! YEAH! He runs them both off with chair based offense, setting up what seems like a promising tag if it's a gimmick match.
