WWF Champion: Hulk Hogan, Since 1/23/1984 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPION CURRENTLY WWF Intercontinental Champion: Randy Savage , Since 2/8/1986 WWF Tag Team Champions: The British Bulldogs, Since 4/7/1986 Superstars from 1/3/87 is a Year in Review special, so we shall move to the first house show. Greg Valentine vs. Dick Slater, Boston (January 3rd) This is a great slugfest, since both men are willing to beat the shit out of each other. Kind of a peaks and valleys type match, where they had good matwork, and it would occasionally erupt into these great strike based showdowns. Great sells by both men, awesome forearms from Valentine, punches from Slater, etc. Valentine eventually scoops him down to the mat in the corner and pins with his feet on the ropes. **3/4 Randy Savage [c] w/ Miss Elizabeth vs. Bruno Sammartino [WWF Intercontinental Championship], Boston (January 3rd) Fantastic one man performance by Savage. He leans into every strike to make them look good, and goes flying for basically everything. Savage's control seg is great as usual, but it also means Bruno has to bump and sell, and that is not so great. They fight on the floor, and Savage hits Bruno with a chair. Since Danny Davis is the ref, that is not a DQ, and Savage slides in at 9 to win by count out. ** |

WWF Champion: Hulk Hogan, Since 1/23/1984 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPION CURRENTLY WWF Intercontinental Champion: Randy Savage , Since 2/8/1986 WWF Tag Team Champions: The British Bulldogs, Since 4/7/1986 ![]() WWF SATURDAY NIGHT'S MAIN EVENT JANUARY 3RD, 1987 HARTFORD, CT TONIGHT: Hogan vs. Orndorff for the title in a cage match! Savage vs. Steele for the IC Title! Race vs. JYD! Piper vs. Adonis! PROMOS: -Orndorff says Hogan has nowhere to run or hide, and Hulkamania dies tonight -Hogan is in the cage and says Mr. Blunderful is going down. He says let the cage be the judge, and if a mere mortal like Hogan goes down, then Hulkamania will live forever -Adonis says he's back, and it's payback time -George Steele yells SURPRISE -Race says JYD will learn to bow to him -JYD says he bows to no man In the back, Gene is with Heenan and Orndorff. Heenan says he's already bought insurance on Orndorff's new WWF Title. They show clips of the betrayal of Hogan. Heenan says there was no betrayal, and Orndorff has left Hogan lying every time they've met, and he'll do it again tonight. There are two referees on the floor as Paul comes out, and one of them is Danny Davis. In the back, Gene is with Hulk Hogan. It says it's been a long road, but it stops here. He says the Hulkamaniacs are ready for a new challenger in a new year, and this is the end of the road for Mr. Wonderful. He says the cage is the most brutal arena of human competition. It is the last resort, man, as Mr. Wonderful is about to find out, dude. Match #1: Hulk Hogan [c] vs. Paul Orndorff w/ Bobby Heenan [WWF Championship - Steel Cage Match] This is not as good as Philadelphia, due to a lack of blood and less violence here, but it is as good as a bloodless SNME cage match with more focus on booking than a great match is going to be. Some creative cage spots. They do the double race out, and both men hit at the same time. This is debated on commentary and with the refs and shit. This was done to set up a potential final match for Mania 3 if Andre wasn't physically up to it. Anyways, they go back in for a re-start, and Hogan hits a Legdrop and climbs out to retain. **1/2 Clips air of the Savage/Steele issue with Elizabeth. In the back, Gene interviews Savage and Liz. Savage yells at Gene to talk to the champion and says nobody cares about her, and they leave. In the back, Gene asks Animal what his surprise is, and he yells SEE. George Steele comes out without any surprise, but he gives Elizabeth a doll of himself. Savage grabs it from her and throws it away. Match #2: Randy Savage [c] w/ Miss Elizabeth vs. George Steele [WWF Intercontinental Championship] Another great Savage performance to carry the match, although Steele is more capable at this point than Bruno was. Savage goes up top at one point, AND RICKY STEAMBOAT COMES RUNNING OUT! YEAH! Security takes him away, and it allows Steele to get some offense in. He bites a lot, and does a lot of his usual stuff, and Savage sells the biting of the arm for the rest of the match. Savage hits Steele with the ring bell to win. **1/2 Savage goes up top with the bell, but Ricky Steamboat runs out to save, and he runs off Savage. Footage airs of the coronation of Race. Match #3: The Junkyard Dog vs. Harley Race w/ Bobby Heenan This is not bad, which is better than I ever expect from JYD. Race had cool bumps and his usual great offense. AND THEN HIS HEADBUTTS FAILED BECAUSE A BLACK MAN'S SKULL IS HARDER IN PRO WRESTLING LOGIC! AWESOME! JYD puts on the crown and cape, enraging Race. Heenan attacks JYD for the DQ. ** Race attacks too, and JYD runs off Race and Heenan. JYD is held back by Danny Davis, so JYD headbutts him. In the back, Heenan talks to Orndorff. He says they know he won the title tonight, so he's going to get a copy of the tape and show it to Jack Tunney, and he'll have no choice but to reverse the decision and give the championship to him. In the back, Gene interviews Roddy Piper. He says he'll make this real short. He says he's humiliated him, and the only shameful thing is not getting back up. He congratulates Adrian for returning, but he's not fighting for money, he's fighting for pride. Match #4: Roddy Piper vs. Adrian Adonis w/ Jimmy Hart This is fun, but it's only 3 minutes. Brawling wild man Piper is awesome again, but when they go to the floor, Adonis sprays his atomizer in Roddy's eyes to blind him. He then slides back in to win by count out. ** Piper gets back in to fight them, blinded. He punches wildly, and hits the ref. Referees come out to get him out, and Adonis and Hart leave, mocking him. In the back, Gene interview Hulk Hogan. He says he doesn't know the agony of defeat, and now everyone knows he had Paul Orndorff beat, dude. Gene goes over how Heenan will take footage to Jack Tunney, and Hogan says everyone knows that Danny Davis is crooked, so that draw doesn't matter, and then he beat Orndorff again. He says he's getting off on this night tonight, and he's looking for bigger and better challenges in 1987. Match #5: Blackjack Mulligan vs. Jimmy Jack Funk Short squash, and it was fine enough. Mulligan wins with a Jumping Back Elbow. * |

Tito Santana/Davey Boy Smith/The Junkyard Dog vs. The Hart Foundation/The Honky Tonk Man w/ Jimmy Hart, Hershey (January 6th) I like HTM best here as the cheatingest member of a trio. JYD and HTM take a backseat to the actual great wrestlers. Awesome Anvil/Bulldog power showdown again. Then Bret and Bulldog have good matwork. Tito and Davey both have good hot tags, and yeah. All three heels get rammed together in a headlock battering ram, and Davey then pins Bret. **1/2 Jake Roberts vs. King Kong Bundy, Philadelphia (January 10th) This is very enjoyable. Heel vs. heel again, and this time it's a styles clash too, with power vs. craftiness. Lots of great evading by Jake. Jake's selling is great when Bundy takes over, and the crowd sides with Jake from the start. Which, I mean, it's Philadelphia, there's no way they don't sign with the horrible person with a cool finishing move. Anyways, they both go to the floor, and they get counted out. **1/4 Randy Savage [c] w/ Miss Elizabeth vs. Ricky Steamboat [WWF Intercontinental Championship], Philadelphia (January 10th) This is their revenge match of the series. In which the babyface is returning from injury and is more focused on revenge than winning. It's only six minutes though, so as far as revenge matches for the IC Title, it is not as good as Tito/Valentine in 1984, due to Tito being better in a grudge match situation at that point than Steamboat is here. Anyways, this is still good. Steamboat gets the ring bell, but the ref tries to take it from him. He throws the ref down for a DQ, and Savage bails. **3/4 |

WWF Champion: Hulk Hogan, Since 1/23/1984 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPION CURRENTLY WWF Intercontinental Champion: Randy Savage , Since 2/8/1986 WWF Tag Team Champions: The British Bulldogs, Since 4/7/1986 WWF Superstars January 10th, 1987 Phoenix, AZ Match #1: The Junkyard Dog/George Steele/Billy Jack Haynes vs. Frenchy Martin/Mike Lucca/Tim Patterson Horrible. BJH beats Lucca with the Full Nelson. THUMP/POOP WWF UPDATE: -Gene talks about how Mr. Wonderful has failed to win the WWF Title -Heenan and Mr. Wonderful do a pretape and Paul says he loves kicking a man when he's down and the most wonderful thing in the world is breaking a man's neck with the Piledriver In a pretape, HTM and Jimmy Hart are outside Graceland. Honky says this place is a dump, and he'll have to find a bigger and better house. Match #2: The British Bulldogs vs. The Iron Sheik/Nikolai Volkoff w/ Slick This is only 3 minutes, so it's not much. Danny Davis is the focus, once again, unfortunately. The Bulldogs loo kgood, and then Slick uses the cane on Davey. Dynamite chases Slick around the ring and to the back with Matilda, and somehow that warrants a DQ of the champions by Danny Davis. *3/4 It is time for Piper's Pit, and the format of this show seems strange. He brings on Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth. He has an action figure of Ricky Steamboat and says this is a has been, and says Piper doesn't have the guts to put someone out of wrestling like he does, and that's why Adrian Adonis is still around. Piper says he'll take care of the whale in due time, but he's not rid of Steamboat yet. Piper announces that Steamboat will return to the ring next week, and gives Savage and Liz front row tickets next week to watch it. Match #3: Hercules w/ Bobby Heenan vs. Alex Knight This is under a minute, which I appreciated. Torture Rack ends it. 1/4* In a pretape, Jesse asks Bobby Heenan about the meeting in which he was in that cause Andre the Giant to be reinstated. Heenan says his money was well spent, because if you look at the size and strength of Hercules Hernandez, you can see all the potential in the world, and he might be a World Champion in a few years under his guidance. AMAZING. INTERVIEWS: -Return to Boston is on February 7th, and it will be Savage vs. Sammartino in a Lumberjack Match -Savage storms in. He says Bruno was the king of the cheap shots for years, and he did nothing but illegal moves last Saturday. He says Bruno whined for a rematch after he beat him one week ago, and he'll have to beat the old man again. Match #4: Jake Roberts vs. Bill Anderson Only 90 seconds, but Jake delivers a great squash again. Jake wins with the DDT. *1/2 INTERVIEWS: -Bruno says words Match #5: The Rougeau Brothers vs. Jack Kruger/Kevin Collins Also only 90 seconds. They're back to using the Seated Senton Hart Attack/Flying Dick Attack for the finish.*3/4 OUTBACK JACK. Match #6: Butch Reed w/ Slick vs. Reggie Parks At least Butch Reed gets 2 minutes. Flying Clothesline ends it. ** In the back, RICK MARTEL AND TOM ZENK ARRIVE AND ARE MOBBED BY WOMEN. AHAHAHAHAAHHA. |

Hulk Hogan [c] vs. Kamala [WWF Championship - Steel Cage Match], Toronto (January 11th) Very fun match, but it's unfortunately only about 6-7 minutes again. Hogan bleeds, Kamala's bump is built up to well, etc. Unfortunately, they do the same finish basically as the Orndorff cage matches, where the managers get in, and Hogan takes them out too, and then goes over the top to win. **1/2 |

He is really aggressive and it's a blast. The Flying Crossbody gets the win. ** WWF UPDATE: -Gene covers the Harley Race/JYD issue Match #2: Kamala w/ Kimchee vs. Don Driggers Another short but fantastic Kamala squash. Flying Splash gets the win in about 45 seconds. *1/4 Driggers is taken away on a stretcher. INTERVIEWS: -Bruno says words WRESTLEMANIA III IS COMING! MARCH 29TH! Match #3: Demolition w/ Johnny V vs. Salvatore Bellomo/Mario Mancini YES! No music yet, and this is before Darsow took over as Smash, so it's Moondog Rex. Still a fun squash. The Decapitation ends it. *1/2 It is time for Piper's Pit. There is a large trophy on the set and he says this is maybe the most important Piper's Pit in a while. He welcomes WWF President Jack Tunney to get on with the presentation. He introduces Hulk Hogan and verbally fellates him and says this is to commemorate three years as World Champion, and Hogan comes on the set. He says January 23rd, 1984, he knew winning the title was special, but he never believed how big the Hulkamania would get, brother. Clips air of him pinning Sheik and then celebrating in the back with Andre. He says this award might be just as special as when he won the title and they can only go higher and higher. Andre the Giant comes on, and Piper introduces him as Hulk Hogan's best friend. ![]() Andre says three years to be a champion is a long time, and looks a little uncomfortable. He shakes Hogan's hand for like 10 seconds, and he pats him on the back and leaves, and Hogan sells his hand. Piper then gives Hogan the trophy, and he holds it up. Match #4: Hercules w/ Bobby Heenan vs. Jim Parks Another bad Herc squash. Torture Rack ends it. Only notable thing is Jesse being unable to stop talking about how he never noticed how much bigger Andre the Giant is than Hulk Hogan. 1/2* Match #5: The Killer Bees vs. Iron Mike Sharpe/Terry Gibbs Once again, the Killer Bees give a jobber team fucking five and a half minutes and they dominate the actual team on the roster. Brunzell wins with a fucking dropkick. That mope. 1/2/45/poop |

Hulk Hogan [c] vs. Kamala w/ Team Kamala [WWF Championship - No DQ], MSG (January 19th) This feud is so disappointing. I saw some Kamala/Lawler matches from Memphis around this time, and they were simple things that Hogan probably would have been capable of, but all their matches are exactly the same and only like 6 minutes. I can't even blame it on Hogan, because until this point, he's been good about changing things up in these series of matches where they have like 3 or 4 in a row. Whatever. Only No DQ thing is when Hogan hits Kamala with the entrance mask to knock him down, and then hits the Legdrop to win. **1/4 |

WWF Champion: Hulk Hogan, Since 1/23/1984 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPION CURRENTLY WWF Intercontinental Champion: Randy Savage , Since 2/8/1986 WWF Tag Team Champions: The British Bulldogs, Since 4/7/1986 WWF Superstars January 24th, 1987 East Rutherford, NJ Match #1: Paul Orndorff w/ Bobby Heenan vs. Paul Roma Very great Orndorff squash as usual. He is still using "Real American" as a theme, and wins with the Piledrvier. *3/4 WWF UPDATE: -King Kong Bundy says his Avalanche is more powerful than Kamala's splash Match #2: Koko B. Ware vs. Steve Lombardi Koko gets 3 minutes, so it's pretty awesome. He's stopped using the Ghostbuster, I guess, as he wins with a Missile Dropkick. ** INTERVIEWS: -Ricky Steamboat says he's going to be one of the lumberjacks. He said he's talked with Bruno, and they're putting it together. He knows that Savage has paid off Sika to try and injure him in Boston on February 7th, but the only way to keep him out of Boston is if he gets stretchered out again. Match #3: The Can-Am Express vs. Don Muraco/Bob Orton w/ Mr. Fuji Can-Ams are Tom Zenk and Rick Martel. Really fun 3 minutes. Martel makes with tons of Huracanranas and leapfrogs and crossbodies and shit. Zenk is perfectly fine, but fucking Rick Martel is tearing it up. All four brawl in the ring, and it turns into a double DQ because Danny Davis is horrible. ** INTERVIEWS: -Billy Jack Haynes wants Hercules OUTBACK JACK BECAUSE EAT SHIT. Match #4: Randy Savage w/ Miss Elizabeth vs. Tommy Sharpe They only get 45 seconds, so that's not at all fair. Savage wins with the Flying Elbow, and never even takes his sunglasses off. * It is now time for Piper's Pit. There is a slightly smaller trophy there. He brings out President Jack Tunney to present this special award. Tunney says this award is for another extraordinary WWF hero. He says this goes to the only undefeated wrestler in WWF history, and introduces Andre the Giant! He comes out and Piper says he deserves this. Andre says he has only one thing to say, and Hulk Hogan comes out. He says this is about time that they recognize the undefeated Giant. He says he patterned himself after Andre, and thanks the WWF for recognizing the real champion of superstars, Andre the Giant. As Hogan does this unnecessary grandstanding speech, Andre leaves the trophy on the table, and walks off of the set. Hogan says that's the kind of modesty he's talking about. This marks a turning point, where Hogan starts coming off as the dick in all his big feuds now (Andre, Savage, Warrior, Taker, Sid). Match #5: The Hart Foundation w/ Jimmy Hart vs. Tony Garea/Scott McGee Great squash as usual. Matilda joins us for an inset promo. Hart Attack ends it . ** |

Very good though, and Slick gets his team DQ'd when he hits Tito with the cane. *3/4 Tito pulls Slick in and slams him, until Butch Reed comes out and pulls Slick to safety. WWF UPDATE: -Gene recaps how Ricky Steamboat has come back from the throat injury WRESTLEMANIA III: MARCH 29TH! Match #2: Harley Race w/ Bobby Heenan vs. Greg Vance (Vance Refrigeration) Only 90 seconds, but a great squash as usual from Race. The Fisherman's Buster gets the win again. *1/2 INTERVIEWS: -Gene is finally back doing interviews -Bruno says words Match #3: The Rougeau Brothers vs. Al Navarro/Tiger Chung Lee Dino Bravo comes out to watch. Great Rougeaus squash, since they get 3 minutes now. Dick Attack gets them the win. ** INTERVIEWS: -Faggot Ken is back now ![]() -King Kong Bundy demands better competition Match #4: Adrian Adonis w/ Jimmy Hart vs. Jack Kruger Short Adonis squash. Sleeper hold ends it. * It is time for Piper's Pit. Roddy has both Hogan and Andre's awards on the table. He says his guest is stirring things up over these awards, and introduces Jesse "The Body" Ventura to explain himself. He asks why he's stirring up all this stuff for no reason. Ventura says he's not stirring up anything. He says there was a reinstatement, and it was always fishy to him because Andre wasn't even there, and Bobby Heenan was. He says they're enemies, but Andre still is reinstated. He says nobody hides nothing from Ventura, and he found out what's going on. He says NOBODY will believe what he found out. Piper asks what he knows. Ventura says what happened here is a precious thing, but he's the only one who has this knowledge. He says he knows the truth but he won't say anything, so Piper calls him a liar. Ventura asks why Hogan's trophy is bigger when Andre has a better record, and accuses Hogan of ducking some people. Piper has the fucking gall to say Hogan has never ducked anyone. YOU KNOW BETTER, RODDY. Jesse says they have a difference of opinion here, and they can settle it by getting both men back on the Pit. He says he can produce Andre the Giant, and asks Piper if he can produce Hogan. He thinks about, and says he can! This build is really really fucking great. Match #5: Haku vs. Greg Valentine w/ Johnny V Tama and Beefcake are on the floor. SUPER fun 3 minutes because it's fucking Haku vs. Valentine. Danny Davis is the ref, so he ignored interference by Valiant and Beefcake, but when Tama attacks Valentine in return, Davis calls a DQ, so Valentine gets the win. ** Match #6: Jake Roberts vs. Terry Allen Jake gets 2 minutes, so he has another amazing squash. DDT gets the win. ** |

WWF Champion: Hulk Hogan, Since 1/23/1984 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPION CURRENTLY WWF Intercontinental Champion: Randy Savage , Since 2/8/1986 WWF Tag Team Champions: The British Bulldogs, Since 4/7/1986 WWF Superstars February 7th, 1987 Tampa, FL Match #1: Randy Savage w/ Miss Elizabeth vs. David Gold This is once again only 90 seconds, but it's Savage, so it cannot help but be good. Randy wins with the Flying Elbow. *3/4 WWF UPDATE: -Gene announces that WrestleMania III will take place in the Silverdome in Pontiac, MI outside of Detroit -Gene guarantees to set an indoor attendance record on March 29th for Mania WRESTLEMANIA III: MARCH 29TH! BIGGER! BETTER! BADDER! Before the scheduled tag title match, The Hart Foundation jumps the Bulldogs on the floor. They hit Dynamite Kid with Hart's megaphone, and the match should obviously be thrown out as he is knocked out, but Danny Davis is the ref, so he rings the bell! Match #2: The British Bulldogs [c] vs. The Hart Foundation w/ Jimmy Hart [WWF Tag Team Championship] This is a really good 3 minutes. Davey works the match all by himself, and has a great sense of desperation with everything he does. Davis ignores lots of double teams though, and the Harts hit a Double DDT, followed by the Hart Attack to win the belts! Given the great chemistry here, you kind of wish for a longer match for the title win, but I'm sure they'll have rematches. ** INTERVIEWS: -Randy Savage comes on and says tonight, the legend will die. Gene says Bruno said his streak of good luck will end. He says right up to the wire, Bruno is filled with foolish pride, but the Macho Man is here and here to stay. Savage says the lumberjacks better stay on the floor, because he'll take them all out and make the Dragon watch when he ends the legend. Match #3: Hercules w/ Bobby Heenan vs. Buddy Blake Herc gets 3 minutes, so that sucked. Full Nelson gets the win. 1/2* INTERVIEWS: -Bruno says words Match #4: Outback Jack vs. Steve Lombardi This was alright. Vince says there are rumors that Roddy Piper will be retiring. I enjoy Lombardi's cheating and Jack wins with a Bulldog.*1/4 It is now time for Piper's Pit, and Jesse Ventura is already there. Roddy says they're going to clear the air on the Pit tonight, and he brings out Hulk Hogan first. He says he produced Hogan, and Jesse says he's impressed. He introduces his man, Andre the Giant, AND BOBBY HEENAN COMES OUT WITH ANDRE THE GIANT BEHIND HIM! HOLY SHIT! Hogan asks what's going on here, and asks why Andre is here with Heenan. He says he can't be here with him, and says Heenan's done so many things to them both. Hogan says Andre is the reason he got into wrestling, and he can't be here with him. Heenan says Andre is sick and tired of him and what he stands for. Heenan says Hogan used Andre, and all Andre got was a smaller trophy than Andre, and Hogan even stole that moment. Hogan says he's wrong, and Andre was there when he won the title. Heenan asks why Hogan never gave Andre a title shot, given all the other bums that got title shots. Hogan says Andre might have come here with him, but he doesn't have to leave with him, and he puts his hands on Andre's shoulders. Andre pushes his hands off, and Hogan starts shaking his head and looking down. ANDRE PULLS HOGAN'S CHIN UP AND SAYS TO LOOK AT HIM WHEN HE'S TALKING! ![]() Andre says he is here to challenge him for a World Championship match at WrestleMania. Hogan says they're friends, and Heenan says maybe Hogan will believe this, AND ANDRE TEARS OFF HOGAN'S SHIRT AND CRUCIFIX AND THROWS THEM DOWN! Andre and Heenan walk out, and Hogan gets on his knees to pick up his shirt and crucifix. Hogan says he can't leave like this, and Piper gets him up to leave. SO GREAT. Match #5: The Killer Bees vs. Al Navarro/Jimmy Jack Funk Hey, what's up? Looks like The Killer Bees are given 6 minutes with a jobber team again where the try and work it like a real match. I don't know why the Killer Bees of all fucking teams are the team to get 6 minutes. I mean, shit, why is this longer than the Bulldog/Foundation match earlier on this show. Best part is Jesse and Vince speculating on the challenge of Andre. Vince says Hogan has a choice to accept since Andre isn't #1 Contender since he hasn't had a match since he came back, but Jesse says if Hogan doesn't respond, then he really is running from Andre. Anyways, yeah. Horrible. Brunzell wins with his mediocre dropkick. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO |

Ricky Steamboat vs. Sika, Boston (February 7th) This is only 4 minutes, so whatever. But it is relevant to the Savage/Steamboat story, due to the promos cut going into it saying that Savage is paying Sika to try and take out Steamboat. He targets the throat, which pisses off Steamboat, and an angry Steamboat is best. Steamboat avoids a headbutt in the corner, and Sika hits the buckle, allowing Ricky to get an O'Connor Roll to win. ** The Hart Foundation vs. The Rougeau Brothers, Boston (February 7th) Not as great as the MSG match from 1986, due to being shorter, but it is still of a higher quality than most other matches in the tag division. The Harts are using a lot of cool new double teams as champions, and the Rougeaus are the Rougeaus. They get the big hot tag and surprisingly win with LE CANNONBALL~. This felt like a match to set up a long series, as the Rougeaus came in and pretty much ran through the new champions. Which I am very pleased with. **3/4 Randy Savage [c] vs. Bruno Sammartino [WWF Intercontinental Championship - Lumberjack Match], Boston (February 14th) Only 4 minutes, but decent enough for Bruno and a lumberjack match. Savage takes lunatic bumps, Steamboat tries to kill him, etc. Bundy ends up attacking Bruno for a DQ. ** Heels attack Bruno in the ring, and Steamboat helps run them off. It ends up with Bruno and Steamboat cornering Savage, but he dives out of the ring to escape. |

WWF Champion: Hulk Hogan, Since 1/23/1984 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPION CURRENTLY WWF Intercontinental Champion: Randy Savage , Since 2/8/1986 WWF Tag Team Champions: The Hart Foundation, Since 2/7/1987 WWF Superstars February 14th, 1987 Tampa, FL In a pretape, Jack Tunney suspends Danny Davis for life. Match #1: Tito Santana vs. Terry Gibbs Tito wins with the Flying Forearm in 30 seconds, so that's not fair to Tito. 1/2* WWF UPDATE: -Gene says 90,000+ are expected for WrestleMania III's attendance Match #2: Don Muraco/Bob Orton w/ Mr. Fuji vs. Lanny Poffo/Leo Strohein Muraco and Orton continue to work well together, and get 3 minutes to show off. Muraco beats Leo with the Tombstone. *3/4 INTERVIEWS: -Hulk Hogan comes on, and Hogan says everyone wants to know about Andre. He says a lot of people thinks he falls at Andre's feet, but he won't let the Weasel and that no good giant tear the hearts out of the Hulkamaniacs. He says he has to team with Piper and Haynes vs. Orndorff, Herc, and Adonis in Boston in an elimination match, and hey, no thanks. In a pretape, Adonis says he's heard of Piper's impending retirement, and he's going to be known as the man who ran Roddy Piper out of the WWF. Match #3: The Junkyard Dog vs. John Valkower Slam. Grab dem cakes. The American Express do an inset promo. Rotundo says he thinks Hogan will accept the challenge, and Spivey says he won't. THUMP DRIVER '87 INTERVIEWS: -THE ROUGEAUS GET A TITLE SHOT! They are very happy and cut a good generic babyface promo Match #4: Demolition w/ Johnny V vs. Mario Mancini/Sivi Afi Darsow is Ax now, so it's the real Demolition. No epic music yet. This is only a minute, so you can't see entirely what they're capable of yet. They win with the Decapitation. *1/4 It is time for Piper's Pit. Roddy recaps the awards with Hogan and Andre and what happened last week. He then brings out his guest, Hulk Hogan. He slowly walks out, and still has his torn shirt. He looks down, and Piper asks him to look him in the eyes. Hogan shakes his head and Piper says they maybe don't like each other that much, even still, but he's always known Hogan to at least be a man and asks what's up with Andre. Hogan says he wanted to be like Andre, and he thought Andre was his best friend, and he patterned his life after Andre. He says Heenan got to him, and something's changed, maybe it was jealousy or greed or the money, but then he ripped the cross off his chest. He says he tore his heart out, dude, and it's different. Piper demands a yes or no answer, AND HOGAN SAYS YES! FUCK YEAH! In a pretape, Jimmy Hart says Danny Davis is the newest member of the Hart Foundation. Match #5: Ricky Steamboat vs. Tom Laxton Another good Steamboat squash, but this is under 2 minutes, so it's not as awesome as his return squash. Ricky wins with the Flying Crossbody. *3/4 WRESTLEMANIA III: MARCH 29TH! BIGGER! BETTER! BADDER! In a pretape, HTM and Jimmy Hart are by one of Elvis' planes, and Honky says this plane is too small for him. Match #6: The Can-Am Connection vs. Tiger Chung Lee/The Gladiator They get 3 minutes, so the Can-Ams get a lot of time. I would love to see Martel/Zenk vs. Furnas/LaFon in a Can-Am vs. Can-Am Battle. They have a cool finish too, as Zenk is in the ring and Martel on the apron and Zenk slingshots Martel in and over the top with a Splash onto the opponent. ** |

The Rougeau Brothers vs. The Islanders, Philadelphia (February 14th) Very fun face/face match, and the Rougeaus carry Tama well. This is full of lots of fast scientific wrestling, as you would expect from an undercard face vs. face tag match in 1987. The Rougeaus lack the insane offensive arsenal of the Bulldogs, but they seem capable of delivering more outside of just squash matches, so they look to finally be the rivals that the Hart Foundation deserves. Strangely, given that they're now in a program with the champions, The Rougeaus lose to a schoolboy from Tama on Ray. **3/4 Hulk Hogan [c] vs. Kamala w/ Team Kamala [WWF Championship], Philadelphia (February 14th) NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. They have their match. It's not bad, but it's the same match, you know? I can watch the Savage repeat matches or Tito repeat matches and not get annoyed because they change little things up, but the Hogan matches with Kamala are exactly the same for 99% of the match. The Wizard attacks for a DQ, and Hogan runs them off. **1/4 Randy Savage [c] w/ Miss Elizabeth vs. Ricky Steamboat [WWF Intercontinental Championship], Philadelphia (February 14th) This is much better than their last house show match. Only 8 minutes, but what they lack in their usual great action, they make up for with a ton of awesome psychological stuff. Steamboat doesn't get drawn into revenge now, but he isn't intense enough and Savage goes after the throat. He repeatedly gets the best of Steamboat because of it, along with cheap tricks, and it greatly upsets Steamboat, so he starts to make mistakes, and Savage rolls him up with the tights to win. *** |

Roddy Piper vs. Adrian Adonis, Toronto (February 15th) Lots of fun, and they got 10 minutes now, so they got to have a real match. Some really awesome Adonis bumping and stooging. They do the blinding spot on the floor, but behind the ref's back. So you get some great blind selling of Piper, before he gradually regains a little sight at the end. They have a great brawl at the end, and Adonis sprays Piper again in the eyes for a DQ. **3/4 Randy Savage [c] w/ Miss Elizabeth vs. Ricky Steamboat [WWF Intercontinental Championship], Toronto (February 15th) This is a lot like the night before, obviously, However, much like the Tito/Savage No DQ matches, the picture on a Toronto show is much clearer and the camera angles used make the match come off better. There's also a lot more intensity from Steamboat, for whatever reason. His selling is also better, and Savage gets more violent than Philly. The attack on the throat lasts longer, he does slams on the floor, uses the post, etc. Savage at this point is clearly the best guy in the company, but there's a difference between the Savage in the Savage/Tito series and this match and regular Savage. It's like the difference between midcard babyface Eddie Guerrero at the start of 2005 and heel Eddie Guerrero during the Rey feud in the summer, or semi-mailing it in Chris Benoit in the fall of 2005 and the completely insane, has no reason to live, Benoit in 2006-7. The difference between normal great and that kind of G.O.A.T. level great. AND STEAMBOAT ATTACKS THE THROAT IN REVENGE! FUCK YEAH! Savage sneaks in a low blow on the floor and puts Steamboat's throat on the railing. He goes up top for the Larynx Killer, BUT STEAMBOAT MOVES AND SAVAGE HITS THE RAILING! He keeps on the throat and throws Savage into the post to bust him open. Savage tries his classic trick of baiting Steamboat to the floor for a count out and lays Steamboat out, BUT HE GETS BACK IN! FUCK YEAH! He goes nuts with roll ups now, and Savage reverses an O'Connor Roll into his own with the tights to win. ***1/2 |

WWF Champion: Hulk Hogan, Since 1/23/1984 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPION CURRENTLY WWF Intercontinental Champion: Randy Savage , Since 2/8/1986 WWF Tag Team Champions: The Hart Foundation, Since 2/7/1987 WWF Superstars February 21st, 1987 Tampa, FL Match #1: The Hart Foundation [c] w/ Jimmy Hart & Danny Davis vs. The Islanders [WWF Tag Team Championship] Vince says that Jimmy Hart has open contracts for Danny Davis in singles matches or in six man tag matches. This gets 5 minutes, and it is super super entertaining. The Haku/Anvil power sections were the highlight, and then Bret and Neidhart did a good job of carrying Tama. An inset promo airs from Hillbilly Jim hyping up Hogan/Andre, but forgetting to predict a winner, which was the only reason they introduced the promo. Danny Davis shoves Tama off the top behind the ref's back and Neidhart covers to win. **1/4 WWF UPDATE: -Footage airs of a sit-down interview with Gene and Roddy Piper. He says he will be retiring. He says he will hang around until WrestleMania III when he beats Adrian Adonis, but win, lose, or draw, he will retire after March 29th. Gene mentions that Piper is retiring at the prime of his career, and only Rocky Marciano has ever done that. It's a great point. Roddy says that's true and people can say what they want, but it'll be one hell of a half an hour in Heaven for the Hot Red before the devil knows he's dead. WRESTLEMANIA III: MARCH 29TH! BIGGER! BETTER! BADDER! Match #2: Harley Race w/ Roddy Piper vs. Salvatore Bellomo Only a minute, but it is very good. Race wins with the Fisherman's Buster. *1/4 INTERVIEWS: -The Hart Foundation comes on. Neidhart says they had the option to hide behind these belts for 30 years, but they have open contracts out, and they're ducking nobody. Bret says the Rougeaus got one over on them last time in Boston, but it was clear to him and he hopes it was clear to everyone in the building that it was only a lucky night for them, and says it won't happen again. In a pretape, Tito Santana and The British Bulldogs sign a contract to face The Hart Foundation and Danny Davis in a six man match at WrestleMania III. Match #3: Billy Jack Haynes vs. Morgan Bastien This is not much. BJH wins with the Full Nelson. 3/4* INTERVIEWS: -Gene brings on Randy Savage and announces Savage vs. Steamboat for the IC Title at WrestleMania III, and says Steamboat will have George "The Animal" Steele in his corner. Savage says nothing is gonna go wrong, not at the Silverdome in all his glory. He says the champion will shine the brightest, and the Animal will be no problem at all. Savage says we are all witnesses on March 29th. He says he will pin Ricky Steamboat, AND POSSIBLY HURT HIM, YEAH. Match #4: The Dream Team w/ Johnny V & Dino Bravo vs. Paul Roma/Frankie Rose This is acceptable. Valentine is still Valentine and gets vicious. Valentine beats Rose with the Figure Four. *1/2 It is now time for The Snake Pit! He says wrestling is full of strange people, but his next guest has to have the stupidest name and persona in all the WWF, and brings on The Honky Tonk Man. Jake asks what kind of name that is, and if he's afraid of snakes. Honky says not to worry about his name, and Jake holds up Damien and says he loves music. Jake tells him to make an idiot out of himself and sing. Jake scares him off with the snake, and then Jimmy distracts him and Honky just KILLS Jake with the guitar shot. It doesn't break, since it is not a gimmicked guitar, and this caused a bad neck injury to Jake that he worked through and probably ended up causing even more drug problems. So thanks, Honky! This also turns Jake babyface, which is also a real shame. WRESTLEMANIA III REPORT: -Gene says the Can-Am Connection will fight Muraco and Orton! He then lists off a lot of new matches -BUTCH REED VS. KOKO B. WARE! AWESOME! -The Killer Bees vs. Sheik/Volkoff -Hercules vs. Billy Jack Haynes ![]() -KING KONG BUNDY/LORD LITTLEBROOK/LITTLE TOKYO VS. HILLBILLY JIM/LITTLE BEAVER/THE HAITI KID -Harley Race vs. JYD in a match where the loser must bow -The Rougeau Brothers vs. The Dream Team -And then we know about Hogan/Andre, Savage/Steamboat, Piper/Adonis, and the six man -Aretha Franklin will open the show WRESTLERS PREDICT HOGAN/ANDRE: -Steamboat says Hogan -Adonis says Andre -Hart Foundation picks Andre -Jim says he guesses Hogan, but he doesn't know -Herc says Andre -Koko says Hogan -Martel says Hogan, but Zenk says Andre -Butch Reed says Butch Reed Match #5: Koko B. Ware vs. Red Demon This got 3 minutes and ruled again. Koko is back to using the Ghostbuster, which is great news. ** |

Randy Savage/Harley Race/Adrian Adonis vs. Ricky Steamboat/Roddy Piper/The Junkyard Dog [Elimination Match], MSG (February 23rd) This is joined in progress, but not that far in, so you still get like 19 out of 20 minutes. They spotlight all three feuds early on, with each babyface getting the best of it. They also worked at a really frantic pace, which you don't expect from dudes like JYD and Adonis and 1987 Harley Race. Lots of close calls even in the first 5 minutes. Adonis and JYD go to a double count out to get rid of the dead weight in JYD. It becomes a great formula tag at this point. Piper once again makes a great face in peril. Steamboat has an awesome hot tag, and gets Race with an inside cradle, but Savage sneaks in to roll Race on top to eliminate Steamboat! Roddy is all alone, and it makes sense this is his last MSG match, theoretically. TONS of amazing Race bumps for Piper's stuff. Savage vs. Piper is also awesome. Savage goes for the Double Axe Handle off the top, but Piper moves and it hits Adonis! Piper throws Randy out and covers Adonis to eliminate him and even it up. Good nearfalls, and Savage goes for the Flying Elbow. Piper moves and though and gets a quick pin for the victory! ***1/4 |

WWF Champion: Hulk Hogan, Since 1/23/1984 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPION CURRENTLY WWF Intercontinental Champion: Randy Savage , Since 2/8/1986 WWF Tag Team Champions: The Hart Foundation, Since 2/7/1987 WWF Superstars February 28th, 1987 New Haven, CT To open the show, the official contract signing for Hogan/Andre is aired: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7boj7T22_9g Match #1: Billy Jack Haynes vs. King Kong Bundy w/ Bobby Heenan This is only like 90 seconds, so it's not much. Hercules runs out to interfere for the DQ. 1/4* WWF UPDATE: -Gene shows clips of the Savage/Steele issue and says they will face one more time at SNME on March 14th, and the winner will get Elizabeth as their manager! Match #2: The Rougeau Brothers vs. Two Jobbers SHIT YEAH ROUGEAUS! THEY WIN WITH THE FLYING DICK ATTACK. ** The Snake Pit segment is replayed. Match #3: The Honky Tonk Man w/ Jimmy Hart vs. Jerry Monti Only 90 seconds, which does not bode well for a bad squasher. HTM wins with the Shake, Rattle, and Roll. 3/4* INTERVIEWS: -Gene runs down the Mania card again, which now also has Jake vs. Honky Tonk Man, and Piper vs. Adonis is now a Hair vs. Hair match -The Killer Bees talk about how they like to give each other reach arounds in their masks as they watch Family Matters Match #4: Kamala w/ Team Kamala vs. David Stoudemire Another too short Kamala squash. Flying Splash ends it. *1/4 The Bulldogs and Tito are on Piper's Pit and say nothing of any real note. Match #5: The Can-Am Express/Lanny Poffo vs. Adrian Adonis/The Dream Team Hart, Johnny V, and Bravo are all ringside. This is a fun trios match. They isolate Martel and Adonis goes to cut some of his hair, but Martel switches behind Beefcake, and Adonis accidentally cuts his hair! ADONIS, YOU MORON, WHAT HAVE YOU STARTED?! Martel then rolls up Brutus to win. *3/4 |

Thump. Dick. Fart. 1/2 THUMP WWF UPDATE: -Recap of the Jake/HTM feud -Gene says Alice Cooper will be in Jake's corner Match #2: Demolition w/ Johnny V vs. Tommy Sharpe/Mike Lucca Still fun, but Demolition is clearly still finding their groove in the ring and with the outfits. Decapitation does it. *1/2 INTERVIEWS: -Gene again runs down the Mania card WRESTLEMANIA III: MARCH 29TH! BIGGER! BETTER! BADDER! Match #3: Ricky Steamboat vs. Terry Gibbs Ricky gets 3 minutes, so he gets time to be really awesome again. Flying Crossbody ends it. ** In a pretape, Gene interviews Bob Uecker. He says he can't wait to announce Andre the Giant as the new World Champion, and also to see The Haiti Kid. He says he loves that Little Beaver too, and Gene asks if he knows him personally. Bob says not yet. HA! Match #4: The Iron Sheik/Nikolai Volkoff w/ Slick vs. SD Jones/Brad Rheighans Solid squash. Nothing special. Brad taps to the Camel Clutch. *1/2 It is time for Piper's Pit, and Andre and Heenan come on. Heenan says if anyone wants to talk to Andre the Giant or negotiate deals with him, they talk to him. Heenan says he's sick of people saying he poisoned his mind, because all he did was wake him up to the fact that people like Roddy and Hogan used him and that if Hogan was his friend and respected him so much, he would have given him a title shot. Piper says he wants Andre to talk, and Capt. Lou Albano returns! He says he used to manage Andre and asks what he's done here. He says he's let the people down and disgraced himself, and he hopes Hulk whips his butt. Andre advances on Albano, and he shakes his head and runs away. Heenan says everyone in wrestling will answer to him after March 29th, and there'll be hell to pay for how he's been treated. Match #5: The Hart Foundation w/ Jimmy Hart & Danny Davis vs. Terry Allen/Jim Powers Real good squash, but only 90 seconds, so there's only so much they can do. T.A. loses to the Hart Attack. *1/2 |

The Hart Foundation [c] w/ Jimmy Hart & Danny Davis vs. The Rougeau Brothers [WWF Tag Team Championship], Boston (March 7th) They get 15 minutes, so it's good, but their worst match yet. It's a little too Heel in Peril in the first half, but you can play that off in relating to their last match, as the Harts are totally thrown off by the Rougeau's style. The Harts do finally take over, and it is fantastic. Not nearly enough stuff off the hot tag though, as it immediately breaks down. Ray gets an inside cradle on Bret, but Danny Davis rolls it over and the ref counts 3. **3/4 |
