Strike Force [c] vs. The Hart Foundation w/ Jimmy Hart [WWF Tag Team Championship], MSG (November 24th) This gets 18 minutes, so it is fully great. This is the match you would expect and want. Not as great as the best Islanders/Strike Force match, due to the lack of the awesome frantic start. Good matwork to begin though. Bret vs. Tito and Martel on the mat was solid, and then they had to quicken the pace vs. Anvil. Lord Al and Monsoon for once actually tell an awesome story, where Bret is thrown off of his technical game when upset, so Strike Force does that to throw him off. Anyways, they usual good control on Tito, and Martel's great hot tag. He goes for the Boston Crab on Anvil, but Bret hits him with the megaphone for the DQ. *** |

WWF Champion: Hulk Hogan, Since 1/23/1984 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPION CURRENTLY WWF Intercontinental Champion: The Honky Tonk Man, Since 6/13/1987 WWF Tag Team Champions: Strike Force, Since 11/7/1987 ![]() WWF SURVIVOR SERIES 1987 NOVEMBER 26TH, 1987 RICHFIELD, OH Monsoon and Jesse do commentary, and Jesse is in a pilgrim hat. They go over the elimination rules. In the back, Craig is with Honky Tonk Man's team. Honky says this is the greatest team ever assembled, and they have a brand new tune to play. He says everyone will get knocked down one by one, until they get to the Macho Man, 5 on 1. He says he is the greatest Intercontinental Champion of all time, and if Elizabeth gets in the ring, he'll give her the Shake, Rattle, and Roll, and leave her laying just like her old man. In the back, Gene talks to Team Savage. Ricky says they all have grudges to settle, and that's why they're here. Duggan says the king will fall, and there will be a survivor. TOUGH GUY! HOOOOOOO! Savage says he remembers how Honky hurt Elizabeth and embarrassed her, and it's gonna be a bad time in the danger zone for him, yeah. Match #1: Randy Savage/Ricky Steamboat/Jake Roberts/Jim Duggan/Brutus Beefcake vs. The Honky Tonk Man/Harley Race/Hercules/Ron Bass/Danny Davis [Elimination Match] This is much better than it should have been, looking at that heel team. All of the managers are there. There's a lot of great matches here and a good amount of awful ones. Race/Steamboat rules, and then Duggan gets in. Duggan and Race brawl on the floor, and both men get counted out. Brutus then gets rid of Bass with his shitty running high knee. Honky vs. Savage rules more than it has before. Hot crowd helps out a TON. Brutus is then isolated, and the crowd stops caring, hilariously. Brutus decides not to tag out, but then Jimmy Hart trips him and HTM hits the Shake, Rattle, and Roll to eliminate Honky. Savage gets back in, and drags a good showing out of Herc. Jake finally gets in later on, and DDTs Davis to eliminate him. No idea why he was in so long. Jake vs. Honky rules too, and Jake's selling is fantastic. Herc controls Jake a bit, but then Savage gets back in to clean house. He wins with a Flying Elbow. HTM is all alone with three guys who hate him, and he winds up taking a count out loss, and Team Savage wins. **3/4 In the back, Craig is with Team Andre. Bobby says Andre already pinned Hulk Hogan once, at WrestleMania, and guarantees that it will happen again. Andre says he will do it again. Slick says these men will be animals tonight, and Heenan says they'll go one by one and Hogan will have no choice but to face Andre the Giant again, and it'll all be over. Match #2: Sensational Sherri/Lelani Kai/Judy Martin/Dawn Marie/Donna Christanello vs. The Fabulous Moolah/Rockin Robin/Velvet McIntyre/Jumping Bomb Angels [Elimination Match] This happened. Not terrible. The JBA were fine, but this was like 20 minutes long, and that is at least 5-10 minutes longer than most women's matches should go. The Angels do lots of moves and they survive for the win. ** In the back, Craig is with the team of heel tag teams. Bobby Heenan says it will be a piece of cake, and nobody has ever been more ready. Match #3: Strike Force/The Rougeau Brothers/The British Bulldogs/The Young Stallions/The Killer Bees vs. The Hart Foundation/The Islanders/Demolition/The New Dream Team/The Bolsheviks [Elimination Match] Again, all the managers are there. The rules are that once one man from a team is eliminated, he and his partner are both out. This shows how insanely stacked the tag division in 1987 is, maybe the deepest tag division ever. There are at least 5-6 teams who are super fucking great in the Harts, Bulldogs, Demolition, Rougeaus, Strike Force, and The Islanders. Valentine can carry his team too, and then Blair, Roma, and Powers are not bad. Only outright bad wrestlers are Dino and Volkoff and Boris, but they are eliminated within two minutes when Tito beats Boris with the Flying Forearm. Powers then gets isolated, BUT AX GETS BORED OF BEATING ON HIM, AND THROWS HIM TO THE CORNER FOR A NEW VICTIM! AMAZING! You now get Rougeaus vs. Demolition for 4 minutes, and that's awesome. Jacques misses a Reverse Crossbody off the top to Ax, and he covers to eliminate them. Heels dominate Powers again, and it is great. Lots of cool Neidhart strength spots, and Haku being Haku. Dynamite has a good hot tag, and Demolition and the Bulldogs have a big fight. Smash shoves the ref down, so Demolition is eliminated via DQ. Bret now beats on Dynamite, and finally debuts his incredible and underrated European Uppercuts. Tito has his awesome hot tag, and hits Neidhart with the Flying Forearm. Bret hits the Flying Elbow off the middle, and rolls Neidhart on top to pin Tito. Why did they eliminate the two best babyface teams first? Powers is isolated again, and now Valentine gets to be Greg Valentine again. And then Roma gets a blind tag and rolls him up to eliminate the New Dream Team! Islanders vs. Bulldogs then gets some good play, and Haku Superkicks Dynamite to win. Wait, what? OUT OF THAT TEAM, THE KILLER BEES AND YOUNG STALLIONS SURVIVE? We've gone 20 minutes, but now the Killer Bees have to actually wrestle, and the match goes from great to merely very good as a result. Brunzell tries to slam Bret, but Tama dropkicks Bret in the back to cut it off. But fucking Brunzell rolls through it, and pins Bret?! WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH THE BOOKING OF THIS MATCH? The Islanders do good shit, and then Powers has a great jobber hot tag. The Bees get killed by Haku, so they have to cheat with the switch spot, AND ONE OF THEM ROLLS UP HAKU TO WIN?! WHAT IN THE FUCKING SHIT? **3/4 A montage airs of all the things Ted DiBiase has done with his money. Match #4: Hulk Hogan/Bam Bam Bigelow/Paul Orndorff/Don Muraco/Ken Patera vs. Andre the Giant/The One Man Gang/Rick Rude/Butch Reed/King Kong Bundy [Elimination Match] The managers are at ringside once again. Good Rude selling early on as all the faces beat on him. Butch gets in, but runs RIGHT into the Big Boot and Legdrop from Hogan and is out at 3 minutes. Oh, come on. Fuck that shit. They tease Hogan/Andre for a while. Andre refuses to face people who aren't Hogan. Patera has some decent power spots, but OMG hits sort of an STO to eliminate him. Rude then bumps around more. Heenan distracts Orndorff, and Rude gets a schoolboy with the trunks to eliminate him! Rude gets beat around some more, and Muraco wins the fall with a Running Powerslam to even it back up at 3 vs. 3. Muraco has solid work vs. Gang, but cannot knock him down. Andre headbutts Muraco from behind, and OMG then hits a Big Splash to eliminate him. Bigelow then gets isolated, and Hogan has done pretty much nothing at this point besides the Big Boot and Legdrop. Andre gets in to finish Bam Bam, BUT BAM BAM DUCKS HIS ARM AND TAGS IN HOGAN! HOGAN VS. ANDRE! Hogan almost knocks him down, but Bundy trips him up. Hogan fights on the floor, but since Hogan is the only legal one, he's the only one that actually is counted out! AND BAM BAM IS ALL ALONE! He fights well, and ducks the Avalanche. He then eliminates Bundy with the Slingshot Splash! Gang is in next, and Bam Bam avoids the Big Splash! He hits another Slingshot Splash AND IT'S DOWN TO BAM BAM VS. ANDRE! YEAH! This is actually awesome, to my surprise a little bit. Andre eventually catches Bam Bam and hits a Hip Toss Suplex of sorts to win. **3/4 Hulk Hogan comes out and hits Andre with a cheap shot with the WWF Title to run him out. Well, that was kind of a dick move. |

WWF Champion: Hulk Hogan, Since 1/23/1984 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPION CURRENTLY WWF Intercontinental Champion: The Honky Tonk Man, Since 6/13/1987 WWF Tag Team Champions: Strike Force, Since 11/7/1987 WWF Superstars November 28th, 1987 Des Moines, IA Match #1: Brutus Beefcake vs. Greg Valentine w/ Jimmy Hart In an inset, Valentine says Hart is his manager again, because he's on his own again. FINALLY! Greg carries Brutus for six minutes with the strength of his awesome selling and bumping, and some very nice violent offense. Both men fight, and the ref calls it a Double DQ. **1/4 Greg gets the megaphone, and he hits Brutus with it. He puts on the Figure Four for a long time. Brutus is able to reach the cutting shears though, and Valentine and Jimmy Hart run away. Brutus is helped to the back. Craig is on the stage, and brings out Ted DiBiase and Virgil. Ted says by now, everyone should start to believe what he's been trying to tell them. And that is that each and every one of you has a price for the Million Dollar Man. He says when he says everybody, he means everyone in the crowd tonight, and everyone at home. He says everybody also means -- and Craig cuts him off and says everybody means everybody. Ted says he's wrong, and says to read his lips. Everybody means HULK HOGAN. EVERYBODY HAS A PRICE, AND HE'S GOING TO PROVE IT, BECAUSE HE'S GOING TO BUY THE WWF CHAMPIONSHIP. Match #2: Koko B. Ware/The Young Stallions vs. Barry Horowitz/Dusty Wolfe/Terry Gibbs Solid 2 minute squash. Koko beats Gibbs with the Ghostbuster. *1/2 CRAIG INTERVIEWS: -December 12th is the next Boston show -Jimmy Hart comes in and says this rematch with Randy Savage is unfair, because he'll be suspended above the ring in a cage. He says he's got Peggy Sue in the corner, but it's still not fair. Honky Tonk Man comes in and says not to worry, because Randy Savage won't be able to harm him up there, and Elizabeth won't be able to distract him. He says he's got something for the lady, and they bring in Peggy Sue, and it's just Sherri in a blond wig. Match #3: Harley Race w/ Bobby Heenan vs. Scott Casey Only a minute, but it was good as per usual. Race wins with the Fisherman's Buster. * GENE INTERVIEWS: -Jim Duggan says stuff. HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Match #4: Jake Roberts vs. Rick Renslow Another painfully average babyface Jake squash. DDT ends it. *1/2 WWF UPDATE: -The 1987 Slammies! Match #5: Don Muraco vs. Brian Costello Solid squash, although Muraco is also lesser as a babyface. Tombstone ends it. *1/2 |

WWF Champion: Hulk Hogan, Since 1/23/1984 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPION CURRENTLY WWF Intercontinental Champion: The Honky Tonk Man, Since 6/13/1987 WWF Tag Team Champions: Strike Force, Since 11/7/1987 ![]() WWF SATURDAY NIGHT'S MAIN EVENT NOVEMBER 28TH, 1987 SEATTLE, WA TONIGHT: SAVAGE VS. BRET! HOGAN VS. BUNDY FOR THE TITLE! BAM BAM VS. HERC! PROMOS: -Randy Savage says Bret Hart conspired and had the audacity to try and destroy Macho Madness. VENGEANCE IS MINE, SAYETH THE MACHO MAN RANDY SAVAGE! -Bobby Heenan says to call your friends, and he has a big surprise. Bundamania lives, and Hulkamania is dead -Hulk Hogan says that's cheap talk, man, because Hulkamania is the strongest force in the universe, brother. Match #1: George Steele vs. Danny Davis No. The events of Savage/Honky from last month get re-aired. In the back, Gene is with Jimmy and The Hart Foundation. Jimmy says Elizabeth tried to bewitch his men, and they did what they had to do. In the back, Gene is with Randy Savage and Elizabeth. Gene asks about Liz's condition. She says she's fine, and Randy says he's not fine, and he's never been hungrier. He says they laughed about it, and he's saying that this is his vow, and he won't rest until those cowards get what they deserve. Match #2: Randy Savage vs. Bret Hart Both managers are there. I watched this in March for the March Madness thing, so I'll copy it over: Fuck, this was great! Tons of energy from Randy, and both men were super super crisp. I've always been interested in the evolution of people as wrestlers, like how it's awesome to watch mid 90s Benoit or 2003 CM Punk or 2003 Samoa Joe and see how guys slowly began incorporating elements of what will make them great in the future. There's a lot of that with Bret here. It's not all together yet, but he already has a great snap on all his offense. He also takes huge sternum bumps. They do good work in the first half, and it'd be *** on its own, but then Savage hurts his ankle and it gets AMAZING. Bret can work a leg with the best of them, and Savage's selling is amazing. Savage can't run or climb or anything, so he has to cradle Bret to counter a slam for the win! Really made Bret look almost on Savage's level, so great job by both men on that. ***3/4 Savage runs off the heels with the megaphone post-match. In the back, Gene interviews Heenan and Bundy. Heenan says the humanoids are stupid and they need to listen up. He says he has 460 pounds of pure champion behind him, and Hulkamania will be replaced by Bundymania. Heenan says the Hulkamorons don't matter, and he has a big, nay, huge surprise. Before the match, Heenan brings out Andre the Giant. Match #3: Hulk Hogan [c] vs. King Kong Bundy w/ Bobby Heenan & Andre the Giant [WWF Championship] By this point, you know the basic idea. They do their thing, and it's whatever. Andre is ejected for attacking Hogan. Heenan holds Hogan's leg when he tries to climb in on the apron, so Bundy wins by count out. **1/4 Hogan fights off Bundy, and then brings Heenan in. He holds him up by the throat and shakes him around before throwing him down. Hogan then poses. Heenan is then helped to the back. In the back, Gene interviews Herc. He says some stuff. Match #4: Bam Bam Bigelow w/ Sir Oliver Humperdink vs. Hercules Solid BBB showcase. A little too long in 7 minutes, since that meant that Herc had to actually do offense. Bam Bam wins with the Slingshot Splash. *3/4 In the back, Gene is with Bundy and Andre. Bundy says he wants a rematch with Hogan, and he wants Andre the Giant in his corner, so that he can make him pay for re-injuring Bobby Heenan's bad neck. In the back, Gene interview Hogan. He says that was a shallow victory, man. He says he wants the rematch to settle the score, and he invites Andre the Giant to stand in his corner, because he'll give him the same dose of Hulkamania that he did at WrestleMania, and that he gave to Bobby Heenan, dude. |

WWF Champion: Hulk Hogan, Since 1/23/1984 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPION CURRENTLY WWF Intercontinental Champion: The Honky Tonk Man, Since 6/13/1987 WWF Tag Team Champions: Strike Force, Since 11/7/1987 WWF Superstars December 5th, 1987 Des Moines, IA Match #1: Strike Force vs. The Conquistadors FUCK YEAH STRIKE FORCE SQUASH! This delivers, yet again. Conquistadors do good bullshit fake lucha, and Martel makes one of them submit to the Boston Crab. ** Craig brings on Greg Valentine and Jimmy Hart. Hart says Valentine is the master of the Figure Four. Greg says he wants those hedge clippers banned from the ring, and says if he didn't wave a sharp object at him, trying to injure them, he would have snapped his leg. Valentine says he taught Brutus everything and carried him to TWO Tag Titles. He says this has just begun, and some day, Brutus will be forgotten about forever. Fuck yeah Greg Valentine. Match #2: Ted DiBiase w/ Virgil vs. Omar Atlas Solid squash, but it's only 90 seconds. Ted does an inset, saying he will buy the WWF Title soon enough, just like he bought the cover of the new WWF Magazine, and shows off the cover with he and Virgil on it. Ted wins with the Elbow off the middle. *3/4 GENE INTERVIEWS: -Gene runs down all the matches for Boston on 12/12 Match #4: Bam Bam Bigelow w/ Sir Oliver Humperdink vs. Dave Wagner Also only 90 seconds, but it was good as usual. I don't think BBB can have a bad squash. Slingshot Splash ends it. *1/4 Match #5: The British Bulldogs vs. Steve Lombardi/Barry Horowitz JOBBER SUPERTEAM! They did some quality basic jobber heeling, and the Bulldogs brought all of their cool offense. Dynamite wins with a Back Superplex. ** A tribute airs to Superstar Graham, since he is now officially retired. Fuck him. Match #6: Butch Reed w/ Slick vs. Outback Jack Another great Butch Reed squash! Tons of cool power stuff, and then he wins with the Flying Clothesline. ** |

Hulk Hogan [c] vs. One Man Gang w/ Slick [WWF Championship], Philadelphia (December 5th) Hey, this was good again. This time, they got like 11 minutes to do shit. Like I've said for most of the last six months, you know what you get here. Hogan vs. Giant is played out and the logical end of it was Hogan vs. Andre, but OMG has some cool stuff, so it's not all routine big man spots. Hogan sells well enough and makes his comeback. He slams him and hits the Legdrop for the win. **1/2 Hogan punches Slick post-match for no real reason, AND ANDRE THE GIANT COMES OUT TO STARE HOGAN DOWN FROM THE ENTRANCE! FUCK YEAH! Strike Force [c] vs. The Islanders [WWF Tag Team Championship], Philadelphia (December 5th) HEY, IT DELIVERS AGAIN! This is one of their lesser matches, due to Tama looking like he could have given a shit if it was good or not. Still though, the other three dragged him to good stuff. Haku did well, but Tama was fine just sitting in holds and doing basic heel bumping instead of the cool stuff he had been doing in the previous matches. Usual structure of the match, and they have another cool new finish. Tito is being set up for the Double Headbutt, but Martel tags himself in a little before it. They miss it, and Tito hits Tama with the Flying Forearm as Martel hits Haku with a Sunset Flip for the win! *** Bam Bam Bigelow vs. King Kong Bundy, Philadelphia (December 5th) Both Humperdink and Andre the Giant are ringside. This was great, due to it being kept short at like 5 minutes. So it's just two huge fat dudes throwing their weight around, which I am a sucker for. Andre interferes, so Hulk Hogan comes out to distract him! Referees come out to hold Hogan back, and it allows Bam Bam to hit a slam and then a Diving Headbutt to win. **1/2 |

Strike Force [c] vs. The Hart Foundation w/ Jimmy Hart [WWF Tag Team Championship], Houston (December 11th) Hey, this is great! Good matwork early on, and instead of Strike Force working a few minutes trying to deal with Anvil's power like MSG, this time, they play off Anvil's power as the way to offset the speed. That's what I'm loving about Strike Force so far, they always have the same basic idea (which is great so far), but change it up enough each go around that it's always a little different. This time, Tito makes the hot tag, which is also new for them. He gets Bret in the Figure Four, but Anvil hits him in the chest with the megaphone for the DQ. *** Hulk Hogan [c] vs. Ted DiBiase w/ Virgil & Andre the Giant [WWF Championship], Houston (December 11th) TED HAS BOUGHT ANDRE TO BE IN HIS CORNER! AWESOME! This is better than their first match, as they seem to have a nice flow going here. Still only 9 minutes, but they waste less time on holds and stalling, and do some quality fighting and offense. Andre is eventually ejected for repeatedly tripping Hogan from the floor. Ted is still in control though, and that's pretty solid. Hogan makes his comeback, but Ted avoids the Big Boot! HOLY SHIT! Hogan then is able to throw Ted into Virgil on the apron, and he schoolboys him for the win. **3/4 |

WWF Champion: Hulk Hogan, Since 1/23/1984 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPION CURRENTLY WWF Intercontinental Champion: The Honky Tonk Man, Since 6/13/1987 WWF Tag Team Champions: Strike Force, Since 11/7/1987 WWF Superstars December 12th, 1987 Like I said, I don't have this episode. Only 12/19 is left, since 12/26 is also not included. I assumed it was a recap show like there had been in years previous that I reviewed, but it's an actual show with a semi-important angle, so that sucks. 12/12/87 - featured Craig DeGeorge conducting an interview with Brutus Beefcake; included the Honkytonk Man music video from the Piledriver Album: Demolition (w/ Mr. Fuji) defeated Jim Evans & Brady Boone at 2:08 when Ax pinned Evans with the Decapitation; after the bout, Demolition threw Boone out of the ring and hit the Decapitation on Evans a second time; after the bout, Boone attempted to make the save but was beaten down until Billy Jack Haynes and Ken Patera made the save Rick Rude (w/ Bobby Heenan) defeated Mike Richards via submission with the backbreaker at 1:43 Jim Duggan pinned Pete Sanchez at 2:13 with the running clothesline Greg Valentine (w/ Jimmy Hart) defeated Scott Casey via submission with the figure-4 at 3:35 The One Man Gang (w/ Slick) pinned ? Rogers at 1:18 with the front suplex The Ultimate Warrior pinned Dusty Wolfe at 1:21 with the gorilla press slam The Islanders (w/ Bobby Heenan) defeated Jerry Allen & Jim Parks at 1:29 when Tama pinned Allen with the splash off the top |

Too much Lombardi offense. Not that I have a problem with him, he's the best heel jobber they have, but it's only 2 minutes and it's against a guy with a lot of cool offense to do, so Lombardi controlling for a minute held this back. Savage wins with the Flying Elbow. *3/4 WWF UPDATE: -More hype for the Slammies Match #2: Ted DiBiase w/ Virgil vs. Rick Hunter Ted is now announced as making his winter residence in the Antilles. Fantastic. Only 90 seconds, so Ted is held back here. Still, good stuff for the time he was given. Ted wins with the Back Elbow Drop off the middle rope. *1/2 GENE INTERVIEWS: -Gene brings in Hogan and says he will fight Rick Rude on the next Boston show! I thought this match never happened. Hogan talks about hanging and banging, and he says he'll beat Rude mentally, physically, and psychologically. He says he can get a good pump with his eye on the female specimens at the gym. Wait, what? He says he's shot down all the giants, and now it's a matter of who is left. Match #3: Don Muraco vs. Dusty Wolfe This is also only a minute. No idea what's up with these shamefully short squashes. Tombstone ends it. * GENE INTERVIEWS: -Brutus says words Match #4: The Hart Foundation w/ Jimmy Hart vs. Outback Jack/Omar Atlas This at least gets 2 minutes. Too much offense from Outback Jack though. The Harts make short work of Atlas, and hit the Hart Attack to win. *3/4 Craig is on the stage, and goes over Ted DiBiase's claims that he will buy the WWF Title. He then brings Hulk Hogan onto the interview stage. Hogan says he's thought about the money, he won't lie. He could put a new car in every garage, he could take care of his family forever, and he's really thought about it. He says accepting the offer would also change a few other things, and he could help out some of the Hulksters that can't physically or mentally go at 100%. Hogan folds up the belt, and says on behalf of all the little Hulksters, he'll have to tell the Million Dollar Man...HELL NO! FUCK YEAH! He says if Ted wants the title, he can come and try and take it from him! Awesome angle. Match #5: Ron Bass vs. Tio Samoa Bass is back doing squashes again! He disappeared for a long time there. He wins in about 90 seconds with the no-arm Pedigree. *1/4 Match #6: Koko B. Ware vs. Raul Mato Good squash by Koko, who is now using "Piledriver" as a theme. Ghostbuster ends it. *1/2 |

The Honky Tonk Man [c] vs. Randy Savage [WWF Intercontinental Championship - Jimmy Hart Suspended Above The Ring], MSG (December 26th) Jimmy is disposed of, but Elizabeth and "Peggy Sue" are still at ringside. This is another really good match between them, and I'll actually give it to them. It was borderline great, and the hot crowd helped push it over the top. Honky bumps really well, and Savage makes his offense look awesome too. Savage controls a lot of it, but they manage to make it feel not that way by how Honky keeps getting pockets of cheap tricks and what not. He shoves Savage into the referee, and it breaks down even more. Both men break rules, and yeah. Savage has it won with the Flying Elbow, but Peggy distracts him by pulling him out. He threatens her until she backs off, and it allows Honky to grab the title belt from the corner. Savage gets back in, but Honky hits him with the belt! The ref sees it though, and Savage wins by DQ. *** |

TAG TEAM OF THE YEAR: PREVIOUS WINNERS: 1984: The North-South Connection 1985: The Hart Foundation 1986: The British Bulldogs 1990: The Orient Express 1991: The Rockers 1992: High Energy 1993: The Steiners 1994: The Heavenly Bodies 1995: Owen Hart/Yokozuna 1996: Owen Hart/The British Bulldog 1997: Owen Hart/The British Bulldog 1998: The New Age Outlaws 1999: The Hardy Boyz 2000: The Hardy Boyz 2001: The Dudley Boyz 2002: Booker T/Goldust 2003: WGTT 2004: Ric Flair/Batista 2005: MNM 2006: Londrick 2007: Londrick 2008: The Miz/John Morrison 2009: Priceless 2010: The Hart Dynasty 2011: Air Boom This is the most competitive this award has ever been. For a long time, 2000 held that distinction, due to how The Hardy Boyz and Edge & Christian went back and forth for the majority of the year and how the Hardys barely pulled ahead by under 10 points to win. Since then, there's usually been one team that clearly wins it, or two tops. In 1987, there were 5 teams that could have won it. The Bulldogs fell out of the running due to DK's injury, but the Harts held the belts for 9 months of the year, The Islanders had a hell of a run, Demolition and The Rougeaus could have made runs at it, and Strike Force immediately went into awesome matches. The Rougeaus stopped getting non squash matches in the summer, and Demolition was undone by having no actual matches, as most of 1987 was about establishing them as threats. So it was down to the Harts and the Islanders, until Strike Force made a huge run. Probably the most impressive run at this award that a tag team has made, given that they were only a team for 4 months. You can argue this for Air Boom, but Air Boom had no competition at all. Super super dramatic final months, as Strike Force had great matches with both the Harts and The Islanders. And there's the key. Strike Force was in all of the taped big tag matches for the last 2-3 months. The Islanders and Harts never fought each other. My line about math was clearly bullshit, BECAUSE BY ONE FUCKING POINT... ![]() 1. STRIKE FORCE - 49 POINTS 2. The Islanders – 48 3. The Hart Foundation – 48 4. The Rougeau Brothers – 26 5. WRESTLER OF THE YEAR: PREVIOUS WINNERS: 1984: Tito Santana 1985: Tito Santana 1986: Randy Savage 1990: Mr. Perfect 1991: Mr. Perfect 1992: Randy Savage 1993: Bret Hart 1994: Bret Hart 1995: Bret Hart 1996: Steve Austin 1997: Owen Hart 1998: The Rock 1999: X-Pac 2000: Chris Benoit 2001: Chris Jericho 2002: Eddie Guerrero 2003: Chris Benoit 2004: Chris Benoit 2005: Chris Benoit 2006: John Cena 2007: Matt Hardy 2008: CM Punk 2009: Rey Mysterio 2010: Dolph Ziggler 2011: CM Punk This should have been Randy's year. There is no question in my mind that he's the best in the company, hands down, at this point. Awesome Steamboat matches, carried Honky Tonk Man, MOTY with Bret. But here's the thing. Between losing the IC Title and turning face? He did NOTHING. A few squashes, but no feud on house shows, which means for like 6 months, he wasn't on house shows. And he still held the lead for a while because all the other talent was being wasted. Steamboat was on vacation, Hogan had a shitty feud with Khan, Race wasn't being used after the Hogan feud, etc. Until... Well... Look, this shouldn't have happened. I like the guy probably more than anyone on this site, but I can't even put it down as a 1999 X-Pac or 2007 Matt Hardy midcard workhorse type feel good win. Because he ALSO did positively jack shit for a large chunk of the year. But when his fall feud got going, it was the best in-ring series of the year and also the most prolific. So it's cool that he wins again, but this puts him in company for most WOTY wins that he probably doesn't belong with. But hey, maybe that fits, being one of the greatest underdogs ever. 1.
