WWF Champion: Hulk Hogan, Since 1/23/1984 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPION CURRENTLY WWF Intercontinental Champion: The Honky Tonk Man, Since 6/13/1987 WWF Tag Team Champions: Strike Force, Since 11/7/1987 ![]() WWF SATURDAY NIGHT'S MAIN EVENT JANUARY 2ND, 1988 LANDOVER, MD TONIGHT: HOGAN VS. BUNDY WITH ANDRE IN HIS CORNER! In the back, Gene interview Hulk Hogan, who looks as if he has just discovered baby oil. Hogan says the only way this is a happy New Year is if he can destroy Bundamania, and get his hands on that big nasty stinking giant. Match #1: Strike Force [c] vs. The Bolsheviks w/ Slick [WWF Tag Team Championship - Best of Three Falls] No idea why this warranted this stip, but then again, this stip is abused on SNME. This is not much more than a showcase for the champions though. They get most of the offense and go 2-0, first with a Boston Crab, and then the Flying Forearm. The Bolsheviks contributed pretty much nothing to this. **1/4 In the back, Gene is with Sika and Mr. Fuji. Sika has a gigantic sub sandwich bun, and Fuji says this is dinner, and Damien will rest in the middle, and then down Afa's throat. In the back, Gene is with Jake Roberts. Jake says it doesn't concern him or Damien. He says he respects what Sika's got, but he's got to think about the DDT. Jake says if he was going to rob a bank, he wouldn't go through the front, he'd sneak in through the back door where nobody was watching. Match #2: Jake Roberts vs. Sika w/ Mr. Fuji This is also basically a showcase for the babyface. Solid 3 minutes. Jake dodges a corner splash, and schoolboys him to win. ** Roberts drives Sika out, and DDTs Fuji. He goes to put Damien on him, but Sika pulls Fuji out. In the back, Gene is with Heenan, Bundy, and Andre. Heenan says Andre will OFFICIALLY be in Bundy's corner, because he can't risk his health. He says these are the only two men to defeat him, and Bundy says Hulkamania is dead. Bundy says Hogan took advantage of Heenan, but he won't do it to him, and he could never do it to Andre. Match #3: Hulk Hogan [c] vs. King Kong Bundy w/ Andre the Giant [WWF Championship] This was fine. It's just, ugh, these two never ever change their match up. And they've been having matches at least once a year since 1985, so you expect some kind of a change up. Shit, Tito and Martel do it every match, and no Hogan/Savage or Hogan/Race match was EXACTLY the same. The first referee is hit with an Avalanche on accident, and he is taken to the back. Dave Hebner replaces him. They do stuff, and Hogan gets the slam and the Legdrop to win. Whatever. ** Andre seems like he will go after Hogan, as Hogan challenges him. Andre shakes his head, and Hogan turns around to pose. ANDRE GETS IN AND CHOKES HOGAN FROM BEHIND AND HEADBUTTS HIM REPEATEDLY! FUCK YEAH! The British Bulldogs come out to save as Hogan passes out from the choke. Andre tosses them out though. Strike Force, Jake Roberts, and JYD come out to try and get Andre off too. As he disposes of them, Jim Duggan comes out to pull Hogan to safety, and he is helped to the back. Andre then holds up the WWF Title in the ring! Awesome angle, and probably the only good thing to come out of this SNME. Match #4: Greg Valentine w/ Jimmy Hart vs. Koko B. Ware Oh actually, fuck that. I was wrong, because this got 7 minutes and ruled. Valentine isn't as great as he was from like 83- 85, but still has it in him to be awesome when the time is right. Awesome elbows and chops, big bumps, great knee work, etc. Koko was great as usual. Tons of energy. Figure Four ends it. **3/4 Valentine refuses to let go, so Brutus Beefcake comes out with the hedge clippers to scare him off. In the back, Gene interviews Bobby Heenan and Andre the Giant. Andre said it felt so good to choke him, and he'd like to do it again and again. Bobby says Andre was choking the WWF Title away from Hulk Hogan, and it will be a new year for Andre the Giant, Bobby Heenan, and The Heenan Family. He says there will be a new WWF Champion, and says he's going to make Andre the Giant more money this year than he could ever imagine. He says he's got a deal in the works that will make them BOTH more money than anyone else in wrestling, because that's what it's all about. AMAZING FORESHADOWING! |

WWF Champion: Hulk Hogan, Since 1/23/1984 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPION CURRENTLY WWF Intercontinental Champion: The Honky Tonk Man, Since 6/13/1987 WWF Tag Team Champions: Strike Force, Since 11/7/1987 WWF Superstars January 9th, 1988 Tampa, FL Match #1: The Islanders w/ Bobby Heenan vs. Jerry Gray/Lanny Poffo This got 3 minutes, so it ruled! Awesome Haku beatings, Tama did well enough, etc. Haku beats Jerry with his nasty looking Superkick. ** Jack Tunney is on the stage and he says The Islanders will be suspended indefinitely until Matilda is returned to the British Bulldogs. Match #2: Jake Roberts vs. Wellington Wilkins This is about 90 seconds, but Jake does what he does. DDT ends it . *1/2 INTERVIEWS WITH CRAIG: -He plugs the 1/25 MSG card with JYD vs. Butch Reed, Muraco vs. OMG, Bulldogs vs. Islanders, Ted/Virgil vs. Hogan/Bam Bam! Match #3: Dino Bravo w/ Frenchy Martin vs. Scott Casey Best part of a Bravo squash is hearing his music twice. Worst part is what happens between the bells, as we have to see an actual Dino Bravo match. Which blows. He wins with a Back Suplex. 1/10* GENE INTERVIEWS: -Gene plugs the Boston card again with Ted/Jake, Strike Force/Harts, and Hogan/Rude! I had no idea that ever happened on film. -Rick Rude comes in and says he lives his life the way he wants. He says he doesn't give a damn if there's 1000 Hulkamaniacs who like him, because that's 1000 useless people. He says Hogan should worry about how he fights instead of how he acts, and if anyone has a problem with that, they can try and stop him Match #4: Sam Houston vs. Terry Gibbs JOBBER MATCH! This shockingly gets 3 minutes and Houston wins with a Bulldog. Not bad or anything, just weird. *1/4 Craig is on the interview set, and he brings out Ted DiBiase and Virgil. He says he thought the issue of the WWF Title was put to rest, but Ted asked for more time. Ted says he told everyone that Hulk Hogan was a fool and he would live to regret not accepting his most generous offer. He says he's not accustomed to not getting what he wants, and he gets what he wants and he buys what he wants, and he wants the WWF Title. AND HE INTRODUCES THE MAN WHO WILL DELIVER HIM THE WWF TITLE, ANDRE THE GIANT! Andre and Heenan come out and Heenan shakes Ted's hand! Heenan thanks him and says now he has more money than ever. He says he won't let an opportunity like this pass him by, and they already planned to take the title from Hogan. Ted asks Andre if he will deliver him the WWF Title, and Andre says he will deliver the belt and hurt Hulk Hogan. GREAT ANGLE. Match #5: Butch Reed w/ Slick vs. Sivi Afi JIVE SOUL BRO! This was two and a half minutes, so Butch gets to do some cool power spots before it ends. He wins with the Flying Clothesline. *3/4 Match #6: Demolition w/ Mr. Fuji vs. Jim Evans/Mike Richards FUCK YEAH DEMOLITION MUSIC! Awesome 3 minute squash. Quality mauling and the Decapitation ends it. ** |

Honky Tonk Man [c] vs. Randy Savage [WWF Intercontinental Championship - Steel Cage Match], Philadelphia (January 9th) This sort of just happened for 8 minutes. The cage gimmick makes sense, but they hardly used it at all, and it was just Honky doing his thing. Not as great as their SNME or MSG matches where HTM had his working boots on. They do a double down spot, and Hart pulls Honky out the door to win. ** Savage pulls Hart back in and throws him into the cage a bit. Strike Force [c] vs. The Hart Foundation [WWF Tag Team Championship], Philadelphia (January 9th) This was good, but only like 9 minutes. Sort of a rushed version of their great match up that they've developed by this point. Martel gets Bret into the Boston Crab, and then Anvil hits him with the megaphone for the win. **3/4 Jake Roberts vs. Ted DiBiase w/ Virgil, Boston (January 9th) SUPER fun match. Great basic stuff and Ted bumping in the first half, as he keeps avoiding the DDT. Ted's control seg is awesome. Perfect balance of cheating and good basic wrestling, with everything looking really crisp and painful. Jake fights back and struggles against everything too, which I love. Really fiery comeback, and this is the kind of showing I didn't think Jake had in him as a babyface. Virgil causes a distraction before the DDT, and Ted gets a schoolboy with the tights to win. *** Hulk Hogan [c] vs. Rick Rude w/ Bobby Heenan [WWF Championship], Boston (January 9th) This is their one match together, as after how brutal Rude was with him, Hogan refused to fight him and compared him to the Tasmanian devil. He hits him with a really nasty looking chair shot with a wooden chair. Rude still hasn't put it all together yet, but he is getting closer. Solid control seg, and Hogan does his comeback and wins with the Legdrop. **3/4 |

WWF Champion: Hulk Hogan, Since 1/23/1984 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPION CURRENTLY WWF Intercontinental Champion: The Honky Tonk Man, Since 6/13/1987 WWF Tag Team Champions: Strike Force, Since 11/7/1987 WWF Superstars January 16th, 1988 Huntsville, AL Match #1: Strike Force vs. Iron Mike Sharpe/Dusty Wolfe This gets 3 minutes and it's the best team in the company against a jobber super team, so it delivers. Lots of good babyface offense, and Tito wins with the Figure Four on Wolfe. ** WWF UPDATE: -HULK HOGAN VS. ANDRE THE GIANT II HAS BEEN SIGNED FOR "THE MAIN EVENT" ON FEBRUARY 5TH! -Clips air of the match at Mania III -Clips then air of Andre's attack at the last SNME Match #2: Greg Valentine w/ Jimmy Hart vs. Van Van Horne Solid squash as usual. Under 2 minutes, but Valentine got in a lot of quality stuff. He also wins with the Figure Four. Kind of a poor card layout, unless this leads to Tito vs. Greg again, in which case, I love everything. *3/4 Match #3: Bam Bam Bigelow w/ Sir Oliver Humperdink vs. Tiger Chung Lee This is officially when everyone now has theme music. This is only 90 seconds, but any Bam Bam squash is a good squash. He wins with the Slingshot Splash. *1/2 It seems as if all the promos have been cut out. Match #4: Outlaw Ron Bass vs. Rex King Another short squash. Bass wins with the proto-Pedigree. *1/4 Bass then whips King with his bullwhip, Miss Betsy. GENE INTERVIEWS: -Or I'm full of shit -Hogan and Bigelow come in for a promo. Hogan begins it by detailing his match with Rick Rude and says he wiped the mat with that jabroni. Wow, uncalled for. He then calls Humperdink the real Brain of the WWF and he called them when he needed revenge on Andre, and that's why Bam Bam is here, brother. Match #5: The British Bulldogs vs. Brian Costello/Gino Carabello Good Bulldogs squash. They get 3 minutes, so they get to do a lot of cool shit and Dynamite wins with a Back Superplex. ** Heenan comes onto the interview set. He says the suspension of The Islanders has been lifted, and if they want to know where Matilda went, he suggests they talk to Jack Tunney, so they go to the back. Bobby says that he proved that nobody makes a fool out of the Bobby Heenan Family. Match #6: Don Muraco vs. Dave Wagner Decent match, but Muraco is kind of a shitty face. Tombstone ends it. *1/4 Match #7: Ted DiBiase w/ Virgil vs. Brady Boone Boone drags this down as usual, but Ted was great. He does an inset promo and says on February 5th, his money is going to buy the WWF Title! He does his usual good offense and then hits his Back Elbow Drop off the middle rope to win. *3/4 |

WWF Champion: Hulk Hogan, Since 1/23/1984 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPION CURRENTLY WWF Intercontinental Champion: The Honky Tonk Man, Since 6/13/1987 WWF Tag Team Champions: Strike Force, Since 11/7/1987 WWF Superstars January 23rd, 1988 Huntsville, AL Match #1: Randy Savage w/ Miss Elizabeth vs. Barry Horowitz Barry is perhaps the all time best WWF jobber by virtue of having actual offense and cool bumps. Savage is Savage, still the best guy in the company. So on paper, this is the best squash available, and it delivers. Only 2 minutes, but they do their thing for 2 minutes. Randy wins with the Flying Elbow. ** WWF UPDATE: -Craig recaps the Bulldogs/Islanders angle. This angle really is kinda lame, but I have high hopes for the resulting matches -He implies that Matilda was abused and says she has lost a lot of weight and won't eat anymore Match #2: Butch Reed/One Man Gang w/ Slick vs. WG Wellington/Rick Hunter HOLY SHIT, WHAT A FUCKING TAG TEAM. TEAM UWF MID-SOUTH HAS COME FOR REVENGE! Tons of awesome and painful offense. OMG wins with the Gourdbuster, and this ruled since they got 3 minutes to show off. ** CRAIG INTERVIEWS: -SAVAGE AND STRIKE FORCE VS. HTM AND THE HART FOUNDATION IN A CAGE! HOLY SHIT YES! -Oh, but it's in New Haven -Fuck this Match #3: Ken Patera/Billy Jack Haynes vs. Iron Mike Sharpe/Joe Mirto This just about evens out Team Mid-South. Patera is alright, I guess, but Haynes is still pretty mediocre. Mirto taps to Haynes' Full Nelson. * More bullshit New Haven hype. Give me the Boston hype back. I mean, hey, fuck Boston, but at least those shows were taped. Match #4: The Hart Foundation/Danny Davis w/ Jimmy Hart vs. Sam Houston/Rex King/Van Van Horne I keep trying to forget that they're running a Davis/Houston feud. That blew. Bret and Anvil did alright, but this had way too much Danny Davis. Houston eats the Hart Attack and Davis tags himself in to steal the pin. *1/2 Footage airs of the Koko/Valentine match from SNME and Brutus trying to cut Jimmy Hart's hair. On the interview stage, Craig brings out Andre the Giant, Ted DiBiase, and Virgil. He hypes up Hogan/Andre II on February 5th at The Main Event. Ted says nobody believed him when they were bouncing basketballs and doing push ups, when he said that EVERYBODY had a price for the Million Dollar Man. He says they've seen that Andre the Giant has a price, and he's not the only one who's been bought and paid for around here, and the WWF Title WILL be his. Because he gets what he wants, and he buys what he wants. He says on Friday, February the 5th, he will have what he wants, and the 8th Wonder of the World is his answer to Hulk Hogan. Craig asks Andre, and he said he got his money and now he will get Hulk Hogan, and nobody will save Hogan this time. Match #5: Jim Duggan vs. Steve Lombardi Good squash and short as well. Three Point Clothesline gets the win. HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. *1/2 BAD NEWS BROWN IS COMING. Match #6: Harley Race/Rick Rude/Hercules w/ Bobby Heenan vs. Lanny Poffo/Jerry Allen/Scott Casey Good Heenan Family squash. Rude continues to come along nicely, and Race has solid offense. Herc is mostly useless, but is less obviously a piece of shit in a trios setting. He then wins with a Torture Rack. *1/2 |

WWF Champion: Hulk Hogan, Since 1/23/1984 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPION CURRENTLY WWF Intercontinental Champion: The Honky Tonk Man, Since 6/13/1987 WWF Tag Team Champions: Strike Force, Since 11/7/1987 ![]() WWF ROYAL RUMBLE 1988 JANUARY 24TH, 1988 HAMILTON, ONTARIO, CANADIA Match #1: Ricky Steamboat vs. Rick Rude Fuck yeah, Steamboat's still here! They get 17 minutes, so it was really good. It's not 1992 for them yet, so it's hardly on the level of their future work, but a good preview. Steamboat brings the awesome psychology, as he is initially overpowered and then works the arm to negate it. Some really nasty looking holds on the arm, and Rude sells it great during this portion of the match. Unfortunately, the second half highlights how far Rude will come in the next 4 years, as he totally ignores the arm and throws some really terrible punches too. This is especially dumb as Ricky keeps going to the arm. He does one cool sell near the end, where he tries to flex with both arms, but then holds his bad left arm. Not enough though. He'll get there. That being said, he has a great control segment on the midsection of Steamboat, and Steamboat is Ricky fucking Steamboat when it comes to selling and a comeback. In spite of Rude's infuriating lack of selling (which may only be so upsetting because it's this pairing that produces some of the best selling ever by Rude in 1992), Steamboat's turns this into a great match. They have some awesome basic nearfalls and then Rude pulls the ref in the way of the Flying Crossbody! He gets Steamboat into the Canadian Backbreakerand it looks like he's won, but then the ref DQ's Rude for pulling him in the way! *** WRESTLEMANIA IV: MARCH 27TH! Gene is on the stage with Jesse and they have a bench press set up. They bring out Dino Bravo to break a bench press record, and Jesse is his spotter. The fans boo, so Bravo initially walks off before breaking the record with 715 pounds. They try to claim that Jesse was helping him, but Jesse was hardly touching the weight. This kills like 10-15 minutes. Match #2: Lelani Kai/Judy Martin [c] w/ Jimmy Hart vs. The Jumping Bomb Angels [WWF Ladies Tag Team Championship - Best of Three Falls] This isn't bad, and the Angels are good, but I just don't give a shit. Sorry. The Angels have cool moves and win the belts. 15 minutes was too long, but I guess the WWF gets credit for trying. ** RICHARD SIMMONS' DEAL A MEAL! Video airs of the supposed controversial part of Hogan/Andre at WrestleMania III, and Vince and Jesse hype up the contract signing later tonight. Video then also airs of the Ted/Hogan saga over the last few months. It is now time for the contract signing. Andre comes out first, with Ted DiBiase and Virgil. Hulk Hogan then comes out. Gene moderates in the ring and hypes up the match and the competitors. Jack Tunney is also there and asks them to sit down. Hogan sits down first, but Andre refuses. Tunney and Gene both ask him to sit down. Ted talks to Andre, and he takes a seat. Ted asks Hogan if he's having second thoughts and if he knows now that he should have taken the offer. He says this is what Hogan wanted, to show that his pride is more important than money, and asks if Hogan knows he's wrong right now. Ted says he's going to sign away his career if he does that, because he KNOWS Andre beat Hogan last year and he's been holding the WWF Title on borrowed time. Andre looks it over and asks Ted about a line, and Ted says that's just a little incentive money. Andre nods and takes his time reading it over. Hogan does a great job looking more and more agitated, and Ted says Andre's waited almost a year, and he can wait 5 more minutes. Andre finally signs it, and Hogan immediately does the same. They stand up and face off and Andre throws Hogan face-down on the table and flips it over to send Hogan flying. Andre calmly leaves and Ted does his amazing laugh. I have never been this excited for a match that I know is going to suck. Match #3: THE 1988 ROYAL RUMBLE~! -Only 20 men this year -#1 is Bret Hart -#2 is Tito Santana -THIS IS AN AWESOME PAIRING -Real good back and forth for 2 minutes -#3 IS BUTCH REED -THIS RULES -Butch and Bret team up well -#4 is Jim Neidhart -Harts team up -They are feuding with Tito, so that's a focus here -#5 is Jake Roberts -As all three try and toss Tito, Roberts comes and tosses Butch out -Awesome fiery Jake offense again -Jake and Tito team up! -AWESOME MATCH SO FAR! -#6 is Harley Race -Harley vs. Jake is amazing -#7 IS JIM BRUNZELL, WHO FALLS RIGHT ON HIS FACE RUNNING TO THE RING HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA -Streak of awesome entrants had to end sometime, I guess -#8 is Sam Houston -THE HARTS TOSS TITO ![]() -#9 is Danny Davis -#10 is Boris Zhukov -Slows down now, but Jake, Race, and the Harts still have lots of cool stuff -#11 is Don Muraco -Boris is finally tossed out by Jake and Brunzell -#12 is Nikolai Volkoff -Race gets tossed by Muraco after a nice run between them -#13 is Jim Duggan -He has a nice run of offense when he gets in -#14 is Outlaw Ron Bass -Master's cum is a gift -Volkoff finally does something good and eliminates Brunzell -Fuck you, Jim Brunzell -#15 is B. Brian Blair -He is pretty good again now that he doesn't have to carry that sack of shit -#16 is Hillbilly Jim -He eliminates Neidhart with a back drop over the top -Oh goddamnit -#17 is Dino Bravo -The entrants have gotten shittier and shittier since Brunzell killed this thing -God damn, at this rate, Corp. Kirschner should be making his return at #20 -RON BASS TOSSES HOUSTON! FUCK YEAH RON BASS! -#18 is The Ultimate Warrior -Bret gets clotheslined out by Muraco -This now starts to fall apart without any real workhorse -#19 is One Man Gang -He improves this by killing people -He easily tosses out Blair and Jake -Duggan throws Volkoff out -#20 is JYD -Close enough -AND OMG KILLS HILLBILLY AND TOSSES HIM -OMG FOR CHAMP -Duggan finally gets rid of Danny Davis too -The build to the Duggan/OMG final is really well done -Fuck it, it comes down to them -Fun slugfest, and Duggan lowbridges OMG out to win -Decent prototype of a Rumble here. **1/2 Craig brings Hulk Hogan onto the stage for an interview. Hogan says Andre sent a message alright, but every time they pull a cheap shot on him, they stick the dagger in his ribs, and that adds more fuel to his fire, dude. He says he thinks about WrestleMania III, brother, and he wants to beat Andre again, brother. He says Andre putting it together with Ted DiBiase, dude, makes it even more clear, because he doesn't have a price. He says Hulkamania can't be broken with a table and if Andre wants to beat him, he has to beat every Hulkamaniac, and with Hulkamania, he's unbeatable. Match #4: The Islanders vs. The Young Stallions [Best of Three Falls] I have no issue with this match happening, but WHY GIVE THIS THREE FALLS?! I guess that's not totally accurate, because this gets only 2 falls, but still. It gets 15 minutes and that is also ridiculous. The jobber offense of Powers is cool and all, but he can't fill 15 minutes with that, and The Islanders need a little help getting through a 15 minute match, in terms of filling the space in between their cool stuff. Strike Force could do that, but The Young Stallions are not even close. Roma hurts his leg on the floor and is counted out, so the Islanders go 1-0. After the commercial, Craig then does a stage interview with Andre, Ted, and Virgil. Ted says they didn't want to make a statement, they wanted to paint a picture, and they showed what will happen on February 5th. Hulk Hogan, flat on his back in the middle of the ring. Andre says he is still undefeated, and says he will be the end of Hulkamania. Ted says everyone has a price for the Million Dollar Man, and they'll beat all the Hulkamaniacs when they beat Hogan. The match now continues. Weird. Roma has his leg taped up now, and The Islanders work on that. That's pretty awesome. His selling isn't great, but they force him to not suck. Tama hits a Flying Splash to the leg, and then Haku puts on a Half Crab to win. That could have probably been much worse than it was. **1/4 |

Butch Reed w/ Slick vs. The Junkyard Dog, MSG (January 25th) This is alright. For a 1988 JYD match, it's probably good. Only 5 minutes, which helps. Butch has cool power stuff and sells well for JYD. He then proves himself to be the definitive Mid-South black top babyface ever when he takes advantage of a Slick distraction and schoolboys JYD with the tights to win. ** Hulk Hogan/Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Ted DiBiase/Virgil, MSG (January 25th) Humperdink and Andre were both on the floor. Pretty much a textbook house show performance by Hogan. He lets BBB do the heavy lifting and is just there to do his shit. Ted takes a lot of huge bumps too. Virgil is Virgil. He exists solely to take the pin, which he does after the Slingshot Splash from Bammer. **1/4 Hogan and Andre are held apart by most of the locker room after the match. |

WWF Champion: Hulk Hogan, Since 1/23/1984 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPION CURRENTLY WWF Intercontinental Champion: The Honky Tonk Man, Since 6/13/1987 WWF Tag Team Champions: Strike Force, Since 11/7/1987 WWF Superstars January 30th, 1988 Huntsville, AL Match #1: The Honky Tonk Man w/ Jimmy Hart vs. Omar Atlas Solid little HTM squash. Good fist drop, not trying to outdo what he's capable of. Shake, Rattle, and Roll ends it. *1/4 WWF UPDATES: -Savage vs. Honky has also been signed for Main Event -Same with Strike Force vs. Hart Foundation -Really really good lineup here -A pretape airs with Ted, Andre, and Virgil. Ted says this Friday night, it all comes to pass and everything he said would come true will come true. Because he's the Million Dollar Man, and he always gets his way! Match #2: The Ultimate Warrior vs. Terry Gibbs Good 75 seconds of Warrior dominating. Press slam and splash gets him the win. I confess to enjoying Warrior squashes. *1/2 Match #3: Dino Bravo w/ Frenchy Martin vs. SD Jones This sucked, but you expected that. Sidewalk Slam gives Dino the win. 1/2* A video airs of the Bulldogs talking about how Matilda is still sick. Match #4: The Islanders w/ Bobby Heenan vs. Scott Casey/Lanny Poffo The Islanders and Bobby come out with a dog leash for an invisible dog, and somewhere a young Milano Collection AT is inspired. Good two and a half minutes. Not great, since Haku was hardly in. Tama has improved a lot, but he's hardly on Haku's level as a squasher. Tama wins with his Flying Splash. *3/4 GENE INTERVIEWS: -Back to Boston interviews thank god -Return is February 6th, and the main is Hogan/BBB vs. Ted/Andre -Ted and Andre come in and Ted says Hogan is only World Champion right now, and he hopes Hogan shows up on February 6th, because he's going to be totally devastated one night after he loses the WWF Championship. Andre says it took him two minutes at WrestleMania III, and Ted says this time, the referee will not be an issue. Match #5: Bad News Brown vs. Brady Boone Brady is useless, but Brown had some fun stuff. Good body blows, and he has a mean Lariat for the win. *3/4 Craig brings out Hulk Hogan onto the interview stage. Hogan says the Hulkamaniacs knew that the Hulkster would never sell out, brother. He says Andre sold out once to Bobby Heenan, so they know Andre had a price, and this proves it. He says he remembers slamming him to the mat, and showing Andre's true colors. He says he's heard the questions about the controversy for a year, and he wants the rematch just as much as Andre does, man. He says when you deal in short term investments, sometimes you get burned, and Ted needs to spread his money out more like his friend, Donald Trump. Hogan says he's the king of his own empire and Hulkamania is his only investment, and the bottom is going to fall out for DiBiase and the Giant. Match #6: Demolition w/ Mr. Fuji vs. Outback Jack/Jerry Allen Awesome clubbering Demolition performance. Demolition Decapitation ends it. ** Match #7: Jake Roberts vs. Dusty Wolfe Usual solid babyface Jake stuff here. DDT gives Jake the win. *1/2 |

WWF Champion: Hulk Hogan, Since 1/23/1984 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPION CURRENTLY WWF Intercontinental Champion: The Honky Tonk Man, Since 6/13/1987 WWF Tag Team Champions: Strike Force, Since 11/7/1987 ![]() WWF THE MAIN EVENT FEBRUARY 5TH, 1988 INDIANAPOLIS, IN Some very homoerotic training footage of Hulk Hogan airs to open the show, set to the song that would later become Jake Roberts' theme. So that's a little weird. In the back, Gene interviews Honky Tonk Man. Honky says Gene is missing the story, and the story is romance. Jimmy says Liz wants Honky bad, and he says he'll oblige her, being the gentlemen that he is. He says he's got the belt and now he wants that lonely woman, and he'll take to the Heartbreak Hotel, and he won't be cruel. In the back, Gene interviews Randy Savage and Elizabeth. Gene asks Liz if she's worried and Savage says they're about to go into the danger zone, and she has nothing to worry about. Gene asks Savage about his claims and Savage says it's fuel to the fire and everyone will watch the Madness rise to the top. "VENGEANCE IS MINE", SAYETH THE MACHO MAN! ELIZABETH, DOWN THAT AISLE! DO THE THING! YEAH! Match #1: The Honky Tonk Man [c] vs. Randy Savage [WWF Intercontinental Championship] Jimmy Hart, Peggy Sue, and Liz are all there. This was a lot of fun, and back to their good formula of Randy doing tons of awesome offense and Honky's entertaining bumping and selling and stooging around. His offense was also the best I've ever seen it look. Really motivated performance from Honky. Savage's comeback was amazing and the SUUUUUUUUUUPER hot crowd pushes this over the top and makes it truly great. Some killer false finishes and they brawl on the floor. Savage rolls in, but Honky waves it off and stands on the floor to take the count out loss! *** Honky Tonk Man brings the guitar in and Savage dares him to use it, BUT HART HITS SAVAGE IN THE BACK WITH THE MEGAPHONE! Honky goes to hit Savage, but Elizabeth gets in to protect him. Honky goes to hit her with it, BUT SAVAGE GRABS THE GUITAR AND BLOCKS IT! FUCK YEAH! SAVAGE GETS THE GUITAR AND RUNS HIM OFF! Savage then break the guitar. Video airs of Hogan/Andre at WrestleMania III, the SNME attack, and then the contract signing at the Royal Rumble. In the back, Gene interviews Andre the Giant, Ted DiBiase, and Virgil. Ted says Andre already beat Hogan and is the uncrowned champion. He says they'll take care of the referee, and that coward can't run from Andre any longer. He says Andre's had the best training at the best facilities money can buy, and Hogan is small change compared to Andre the Giant. Gene asks Andre, and he won't stop squeezing until the life comes out of Hogan this time. In the back, Gene interviews Hulk Hogan. Hogan says with all the controversy, he tried to keep an open mind, but it was only a 2 count, and he beat Andre 1-2-3. He says Hulkamania is NOT small change, brother. He says they can watch the referee, but all his Maniacs will watch them, and he'll prove that he can beat Andre the Giant and Hulkamania will live forever! Match #2: Hulk Hogan [c] vs. Andre the Giant w/ Ted DiBiase & Virgil [WWF Championship] IT'S TIME! Because of the controversy at WM3, they appointed Dave Hebner as referee now instead of Joey Marella. Really great small touch. Once again, a Hogan/Andre match talked about as being terrible isn't bad at all. Hogan immediately attacks Ted and Virgil to get them out of the way. This wasn't totally smooth or crisp, but the storytelling was fucking fantastic. Hogan only could slam Andre at Mania after knocking him down, so Hogan immediately goes wild trying to knock him down. They also have somewhat of a throwback to a subtle point going into WrestleMania III, where Andre pretty much had to go after Hogan when he did, because he was already starting to physically deteriorate. Here, he's even slower and Hogan uses this, sticking and moving a lot. He almost has Andre down, but foolishly goes up top, and Andre throws him off. Hogan keeps coming back by avoiding Andre's attacks. Andre's control seg is less dominating than Mania III and comes off more like desperation at points. He takes shortcuts, like blatant repeated choking and stomping on hands and feet, that he wouldn't have taken before Hogan already beat him once. HOGAN KNOCKS DOWN ANDRE WITH A FLYING CLOTHESLINE! FUCK YEAH! LEGDROP IS HIT, BUT VIRGIL GRABS THE REFEREE! Finish kind of blows and Andre hits his lazy Hip Toss throw thing and does a shoddy cover. Hogan has his shoulder up, BUT DAVE HEBNER COUNTS TO THREE! NEW CHAMPION! **1/2 Hogan argues with Hebner, AND HE GIVES THE TITLE TO ANDRE THE GIANT! Gene comes out to interview Andre from the apron, and Andre says this is no surprise, and he told everyone. AND NOW, HE SURRENDERS THE WWF CHAMPIONSHIP TO TED DIBIASE! ![]() Hogan lifts Hebner out of the way to chase them, but Andre, Ted, and Virgil have already left the ring. They quickly leave with the title. MEANWHILE, THE REAL DAVE HEBNER COMES OUT AND SHOVES THE FAKE ONE DOWN! AMAZING! Hogan gets the fake one alone and he throws him out to the floor onto Ted, Andre, and Virgil! The tag title match never happens, as we go to the back instead. In the back, Gene interviews Hogan, and Gene says he's sure there is going to be a thorough investigation by Jack Tunney into just what happened tonight. Hogan asks how much money they spent on the plastic surgery and he says he thought he had all bases covered with this thing. They show the footage of Hogan having his shoulder up and Hogan says he knows the referee was paid off. |

WWF Champion: Ted DiBiase (?), Since 2/5/1988 WWF Intercontinental Champion: The Honky Tonk Man, Since 6/13/1987 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPION CURRENTLY WWF Tag Team Champions: Strike Force, Since 11/7/1987 WWF Superstars February 6th, 1988 Hershey, PA To open the show, Vince says that any official, be it announcers, security, color commentators, or referees, are prohibited from speaking of the events of last night, as they are still under review. Match #1: Ricky Steamboat vs. Rick Rude w/ Bobby Heenan & Hercules This is not as good as their Rumble match, but this is also only 4 minutes. It's good for what they can do, since they do work well together. Hercules interferes, and King Harley Race also comes down to do so. The Ultimate Warrior then comes out and throws them into the ring. The match breaks down, and the ref calls it a double DQ. ** The Heenan Family has a one man advantage, so they begin to beat down Warrior and Steamboat, until Hacksaw Jim Duggan runs out to save with his 2x4. WWF UPDATE: -Craig announces that WrestleMania IV will take place from Trump Plaza in Atlantic City, NJ Match #2: Don Muraco vs. Dusty Wolfe Solid enough, whatever. Tombstone gets the win. *1/4 INTERVIEWS WITH CRAIG: -He's plugging a LA card for some reason, so fuck this Match #3: Outlaw Ron Bass vs. Gary Starr Another good Bass squash. Proto-Pedigree ends it. *1/2 He hangs the jobber with his bullwhip post-match. Match #4: Jim Duggan vs. Brian Costello Fun energetic Hacksaw squash, better than usual. He wins with the Three-Point Clothesline. Jesse tries to talk about Hogan/Andre, but his mic is cut off. *3/4 Match #5: Bam Bam Bigelow w/ Sir Oliver Humperdink vs. Gino Carabello Only 75 seconds, so that was kind of lame, but it's still a BBB squash. He wins with the Slingshot Splash. *1/2 On the stage, Craig brings out Slick and The Bolsheviks. This is a huge step down from the Hogan/Andre build over the last month. Slick puts over Russia a lot. Match #6: One Man Gang w/ Slick vs. Jerry Gray Another great 90 second OMG squash. Gourdbuster gives OMG the win. *1/2 Jesse is again censored when he tries to talk about The Main Event. A note is delivered to the announce table, saying that Jack Tunney would have a statement concerning Hogan/Andre and the WWF Championship situation next week. Hulk Hogan/Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Ted DiBiase/Andre the Giant, Boston (February 6th) This is notable for being one of the rare house show matches where Ted was announced as WWF Champion and had the belt. ANDRE WORKING A HOUSE SHOW MATCH! This is only 7 minutes, but it is a lot of fun. Bam Bam has his working boots on, and Ted takes a ton of awesome bumps and sells like a motherfucker. Hogan tries more than the last house show tag, so that's good. Andre lets Ted do most of the work, but has a few nice spots. Hogan has the hot tag, and he pins DiBiase with the Legdrop. **1/2 |

WWF Champion: Ted DiBiase (?), Since 2/5/1988 WWF Intercontinental Champion: The Honky Tonk Man, Since 6/13/1987 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPION CURRENTLY WWF Tag Team Champions: Strike Force, Since 11/7/1987 WWF Superstars February 13th, 1988 Hershey, PA They are now allowed to talk about The Main Event, and the match is re-aired in full, including the post-match. A pretape airs from Ted DiBiase, which Vince says is from the night they stole the WWF Title, and he has the WWF Title around his waist. Ted asks if they see where it is, and says it's right where he said it would be. He ALWAYS gets what he wants, and he wanted to be WWF Champion and now he is. He says he will be a better champion than Hulk Hogan. He then asks what kind of money Hogan had to spend to get a Dave Hebner look alike to come out AFTER the match and throw the decision into doubt. LONG REIGN THE MILLION DOLLAR MAN! The interview with Hogan after the match is then also re-aired. Video then airs of Jack Tunney in his office. He says never before has there been such controversy around a WWF Title match. Jack Tunney says as always and unfortunately, the decision of a WWF referee is final. Hulk Hogan is no longer the WWF Champion, but as it says in the rule book, a champion can only be crowned by pinfall or submission. Furthermore, a champion can publicly surrender the title to end his reign, which Andre the Giant did. So Ted DiBiase cannot be awarded the WWF Title and Andre the Giant is no longer WWF Champion. Therefore, the WWF Championship will remain vacant until March 27th, and there will see a tournament to crown the NEW WWF Champion! ![]() Of course, the Duggan/DiBiase and Rude/Jake matches get switched around at some point there. Match #1: The Young Stallions vs. Joe Mito/Terry Gibbs OH GOD, WHY?! They do some stuff and Powers wins with a Powerslam. Makes sense. * GENE INTERVIEWS: -Randy Savage comes in and says all the focus is on WrestleMania IV. He says he's talking to Butch Reed, and he's got respect for him has an athlete, but he's not the only one who's paid dues, and it's his time, yeah. Gene asks about Hulk Hogan and the WWF Title, and Savage says that is too hot to handle. Savage says money carries some weight, but it can't take him all the way, and maybe WrestleMania is where he learns that. Match #2: Butch Reed w/ Slick vs. Rex King Really good squash for 2 minutes. Awesome power stuff and then the Flying Clothesline gives Reed the victory. *3/4 GENE INTERVIEWS: -Slick comes in and says he has two good chances at this thing, and it's no accident that Slick will be the manager of the next WWF Champion. Butch Reed and OMG come in and Slick says One Man Gang will win the battle of the big men, and The Natural will show who the real Macho Man is. He says Randy's chances were between slim and none, AND SLIM JUST LEFT TOWN! BUTCH REED FOR WWF CHAMPION! Match #3: Jim Duggan vs. Dave Wagner Another good short Hacksaw squash. Three-Point Clothesline gets him a win. *1/4 GENE INTERVIEWS: -Ted, Andre, and Virgil come in. Ted says this isn't fair, and Jack Tunney is biased. He says Andre did his job and delivered the belt, and it was bought and paid for. He says this tournament is for a belt he should already have. He says Duggan is #1, and he's rolled through everyone else, and it's only four more wins until that belt is his. Match #4: The British Bulldogs vs. Von Von Horne/Red Demon Short match, but it was good. They win with the Rocket Launcher Headbutt. *3/4 Match #5: Demolition w/ Mr. Fuji vs. Eric Cooper/Dave Stoudemire This was also too short to be great. This is what happens when you spend 20 minutes of the show on angles and try to cram 5 matches in the next 25 minutes of airtime. Demolition Decapitation scores the win. *1/2 |

The British Bulldogs vs. Harley Race/Hercules, Prime Time Wrestling (February 19th) About what you'd expect. Herc gets dragged into a good match by the other three. Race's control stuff is great, and the Bulldogs did their offense well. Bobby Heenan comes out to manage his guys in the middle, and to cut off the comeback of the Bulldogs, he taunts them with the dog leash. They chase him to the back, and the Heenan Family team wins by count out as a result. **1/2 |

Slingshot Splash gets him the win. ** WWF UPDATE: -Footage of Tunney's announcement airs again -Craig goes over the bracket again, now with the bracket fixed to what actually aired Match #2: The Islanders w/ Bobby Heenan vs. Omar Atlas/Rick Hunter I'm all for a long squash, but holy shit, 6 minutes is WAY too much. Even for a great squash team like The Islanders. Too much jobber offense due to the time. Tama eventually beats Hunter with a Flying Splash. *1/2 INTERVIEWS WITH GENE: -Another episode with a New Haven house show promoted. Fuck this. Match #3: Dino Bravo w/ Frenchy Martin vs. Dave Stoudemire This blows. Sidewalk Slam gets the win for Dino. 1/4* Match #4: The Junkyard Dog vs. Ken Johnson JYD wins in under a minute with the slam. THUMP. GENE INTERVIEWS: -Back to Mania IV hype -Andre the Giant comes on and says he beat Hulk Hogan in two minutes last WrestleMania, and he won the Survivor Series, and then in Indianapolis, he won again. He's beaten Hogan 3 times, and he gave the belt to Ted DiBiase because as champion, he earned the right to do what he wants with the belt. He says this is the champion, and Ted DiBiase comes in. He says if he wins again, then he'll give the title to Ted DiBiase again. Ted says bureaucracy is ruining America and the WWF, and this is a conspiracy. Match #5: Bad News Brown vs. Phil Newkirk Good 3 minutes of brutal squashing. BNB debuts the Ghetto Blaster, his sweet Inoki-style Enzuiguri to win. ** Craig is on the stage and he brings on Rick Rude and Bobby Heenan. Rude says he doesn't need any help, but Heenan Family members are at ringside for his matches because he draws such tremendous amounts of female enthusiasm that he needs them there to make sure nobody gets too close. Rude says he's not just the sexiest man ever to walk the Earth, he's the shape of things to come. He shows off his body and poses, and Bobby Heenan says this is the next WWF Champion, mark his words. WRESTLEMANIA REPORT: -Bulldogs/Koko vs. Islanders/Heenan has been signed -So has Honky vs. Beefcake for the IC Title -OH MY GOD, WHY?! THAT'S GOING TO BE SO SO SO SO SO BAD. -Bob Uecker will be a guest ring announcer Match #6: The Ultimate Warrior vs. Harley Race w/ Bobby Heenan This was all of 90 seconds before Hercules came out to attack Warrior for the DQ. *1/4 He brings in the chain, but Warrior gets the chain from him, and he runs off Hercules, Heenan, and Race. |

Demolition vs. The Killer Bees, Wrestling Challenge (February 21st) This showed up on a youtube channel I follow with a ton of 80s house show and B-show stuff, so I'll give it a shot. Gorilla and Heenan phrase this as basically a #1 Contender's match, which is weird since the Killer Bees haven't been in title contention in at least a year and the Tag Team Champions have been off TV for far too long too. Demolition apparently hates Brunzell and Blair as much as everyone else, as they dish out maybe their most brutal beating yet. This was a good 5-6 minute TV match, carried by Demolition being really violent. Blair has a near Tito level Flying Forearm, in the best thing he's done since he got saddled with Brunzell 3 years prior. Smash hits Brunzell with Fuji's cane to win. **1/4 |

Awesome 3 minute squash as usual. I am sad that their time with the belts is coming to an end. There's so much they could have done with them still. Martel wins with the Boston Crab on Stone. ** WWF UPDATE: -Craig goes over the bracket again -Footage airs of Savage/HTM from TME Match #2: Greg Valentine w/ Jimmy Hart vs. Jerry Allen Valentine gets over 2 minutes, so he gets to be all nasty with his elbows and knee work too. He wins with the Figure Four. ** GENE INTERVIEWS: -Now hype for Hartford -Goddamnit Match #3: Jake Roberts vs. Pete Sanchez This is only 90 seconds, but it's still a quality squash. Jake wins with the DDT. *1/2 Match #4: Outlaw Ron Bass vs. Gary Jackson This is only about a minute. Enjoyable though. Proto Pedigree ends it. * He chokes out the jobber with the bullrope post-match. CRAIG INTERVIEWS: -The British Bulldogs and Koko B. Ware say some words Match #5: Ted DiBiase w/ Virgil vs. John Stewart Really good 2 minutes. Ted does his offense and the jobber bumps well. Ted wins with a Powerslam. *3/4 Craig is on the stage and he brings on Hulk Hogan. He goes over his bye to the Quarterfinals, and says he has Andre the Giant. Hogan says if he would have planned this out himself, it couldn't have turned out better. He says the third time is the charm, dude, and he's glad it's this way, brother. He says with the whole world watching, he's going to leave him laying. Craig says he would then have to win 2 more matches to be the champion, but Hogan then somehow argues that the Hulkamaniacs would refuel his power and everyone else would be at a disadvantage then, jack. WRESTLEMANIA IV REPORT: -Strike Force vs. Demolition for the Tag Titles has been booked ![]() -Warrior vs. Herc is also happening -Donald Trump does a pretape and says WrestleMania IV is the fastest selling event he's ever held and he's honored to host it Match #6: The Hart Foundation/The Honky Tonk Man w/ Jimmy Hart vs. Lanny Poffo/Omar Atlas/Jerry Allen Solid six man squash. Hart Foundation does most of the hard work, and Honky comes in to win with the Shake, Rattle, and Roll on Omar. *3/4 Edited by Big Tuna, Oct 16 2012, 06:25 PM.

I'm going to miss these Savage squashes come after WrestleMania Good 2 minute sprint, and Savage wins with the Flying Elbow. ** WWF UPDATE: -Craig yet again details the bracket -Andre does a pretape and says he is the true World Champion and he will beat Hogan again, and the Hulkamaniacs support him now Match #2: Demolition w/ Mr. Fuji vs. Jim Evans/Mike Richards Only 90 seconds, but still an awesome and brutal Demolition squash. Decapitation gives them the win. *1/2 Match #3: Don Muraco vs. Frankie DeFalco Another really short one here. Tombstone wins for Muraco. *1/4 CRAIG INTERVIEWS: -More bullshit for Hartford Match #4: Brutus Beefcake vs. Steve Lombardi NOPE. CRAIG INTERVIEWS: -Back to Mania IV hype now -Heenan and The Islanders come in. Heenan says he has not been in the ring for over a year because he doesn't need to. He says on his worst day, he could take care of some bum with a parrot, and The Islanders will destroy the Bulldogs. He says these are the only attack dogs he needs, and they should have just put Matilda down while they had the chance. Match #5: The British Bulldogs vs. Brian Costello/Terry Gibbs This got 2 minutes and was fine enough. Just never really hit the mark to become great for whatever reason. The Rocket Launcher Headbutt gets the win for the Bulldogs. *3/4 Craig is on the stage, and he brings Honky Tonk Man and Jimmy Hart onto the stage. Hart says HTM is the greatest Intercontinental Champion of all time. Honky says this won't be anything, because he's the greatest of all time, and Brutus Beefcake is a nobody and nothing to him. He says he's not a barber or a wrestler, and if some people high up didn't find his nonsense funny, he'd be fired a long time ago. FUCK YEAH HONKY TONK MAN?! WHAT IS THIS? Brutus comes out with the shears, and they bail. WRESTLEMANIA IV REPORT: -A 20 man battle royal is also announced -Robin Leach will present the winner of the WWF Title Tournament with the belt Match #6: Harley Race/Rick Rude/Hercules w/ Bobby Heenan vs. Three Jobbers This is all of 90 seconds, maybe less, and is literally 100% Hercules offense. So it kind of sucks. He wins with the Torture Rack 3/4* |

The Rougeau Brothers vs. Demolition w/ Mr. Fuji, Boston (March 5th) THIS RULED! This is only 9 minutes, but it's pretty awesome. Not epic or anything, but since it's going into WM4's title match and the Rougeaus are off TV, the goal is getting Demolition over huge. The Rougeaus try to contain Demolition and wear them out like they usually do, but they get slaughtered for not constantly moving forward. Awesome FIP work and comebacks by the Rougeaus. Demolition kills one of them with a disgusting Double Clothesline to the throat to win. *** Randy Savage/Strike Force vs. The Honky Tonk Man/The Hart Foundation [Steel Cage Match], Boston (March 5th) THIS ALSO RULED! Total chaotic mess of a match in the best possible way. All the babyface had a ton of fire and brought HATE~. You forget how great a brawler Tito is capable of being until he's actually in a brawl. And then Randy Savage is Randy Savage. Martel does alright for himself, as does Honky. Pretty much everyone takes some huge bumps. Tito and Neidhart fight near the door, and both men fall out! Martel goes out over the top, and Savage is all alone. He has an awesome desperate comeback, but gets shut down. Bret walks out the door, but Savage stops HTM from doing the same. They have a great little run. They fight up top of the cage, but Savage punches Honky down, and he crotches himself on the top rope! Savage then climbs over the top to win. ***1/2 |

Splash gets him the win. *1/4 WWF REPORT: -Clips air of Hogan first winning the WWF Title -Then clips of the two Andre matches -Hogan says he's gonna chew Andre up and spit him out, and Hulkamania will never die Match #2: Jim Duggan vs. Barry Horowitz Only 90 seconds, which is for the best when it comes to Hacksaw. He wins with the Three-Point Clothesline. *1/2 CRAIG INTERVIEWS: -Bulldogs and Koko say some more stuff Match #3: Bad News Brown vs. Lance Allen Another good one from BNB, but only like a minute. He wins with the Ghetto Blaster, which is the name for his sweet Enzuiguri. *1/4 WRESTLEMANIA IV: MARCH 27TH! GENE INTERVIEWS: -Demolition and Mr. Fuji come on. Fuji says he is like a patient fisherman, but they have waited long enough. Smash says this is the big one, like Master Fuji says, and this is why they've trained and demolished people. Ax says Strike Force's nightmare is coming true, and they can't hide any longer. Match #4: Bam Bam Bigelow w/ Sir Oliver Humperdink vs. Brian Costello This is also really short at 90 seconds. This is what happens when you devote 10 minutes of the show to Hulk Hogan highlights. Slingshot Splash gives Bammer the win. *1/2 Craig is on the stage, and he brings out Ted DiBiase, Andre the Giant, and Virgil. Craig asks Andre about Hogan. Andre says this will be the fourth time he beats Hulk Hogan, and he will kill Hulkamania forever and the Hulkamaniacs want to cheer a winner and they will support Andre the Giant from now on. Craig then talks to Ted, and he says everyone knows he was ripped off, because too many people are intimidated by him. He says at least the title is no longer around Hulk Hogan's waist after four and a half years. Craig asks about Duggan. Ted says he's big and strong, but he's a bumbling idiot and asks what he's going to do against him. Craig asks what if the semi-finals are Ted vs. Andre. Andre says he made a promise and he always keeps his promises. Craig is confused and Ted says money talks louder than anything, and they leave. This is a contender for best WrestleMania build ever. Match #5: Dino Bravo w/ Frenchy Martin vs. Johnny Steward Another shitty Bravo squash here. 1/2* |

WWF Champion: Vacant WWF Intercontinental Champion: The Honky Tonk Man, Since 6/13/1987 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPION CURRENTLY WWF Tag Team Champions: Strike Force, Since 11/7/1987 ![]() WWF SATURDAY NIGHT'S MAIN EVENT MARCH 12TH, 1988 NASHVILLE, TN TONIGHT: -HOGAN VS. RACE -SAVAGE VS. DIBIASE -BRUTUS VS. VALENTINE -OMG VS. PATERA PROMOS: -Randy Savage says there's no room in the danger zone for Ted's time or money, and he'll bounce his check for good. Macho talks and money walks, yeah -Ted DiBiase says that Macho Man has taken one too many guitars to the head, and he's brought class to the WWF, unlike the Macho Man. What he brings to the ring is worth its weight in gold. -Brutus Beefcake sucks a dick on live TV -Slick and OMG say that Ken Patera will do what all US Olympians do best, and that's lose -Bobby Heenan says Hogan will be on his hands and knees, showing proper respect to the King, Harley Race -Hogan says he will never bow or break, and better men have tried, dude. He says he'll crown Harley Race like he's never been crowned before. They show footage of the Hogan/Andre finish from The Main Event to open the show. Match #1: Greg Valentine w/ Jimmy Hart vs. Brutus Beefcake Greg carries this moron for 9 minutes, or at least tries. Great control seg, but it's not long enough. Brutus' selling is bullshit and his offense is all terrible. Valentine has some awesome bumps, but his career as a top level guy is pretty much over, barring one or two potential swan song house show matches. Valentine hits a bridging Back Suplex, but Brutus gets his arm up before 3 to win. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. ** Brutus chases Jimmy and Valentine out with the shears In the back, Gene interviews Heenan and Race. Gene accuses him of being partially responsible for the title vacancy. Heenan says he'd love to shoulder some of that responsibility, and it's a beautiful sight, and he's proud to have made the connection between Andre the Giant and the Million Dollar Man. He says Hulkamania will continue the downslide tonight before it dies at WrestleMania, and now Hogan will show true respect to the true king of the WWF, Harley Race. In the back, Gene interviews Hogan. He says Hulkamania will never die, brother, and Harley Race is the only thing in his way before WrestleMania and his World Title. He says he only bows to one man, dude, and that big dude walks on water. He says after he breaks him tonight, all the weasel's horses and all the weasel's men will never put the King back together again. Match #2: Hulk Hogan vs. Harley Race w/ Bobby Heenan Hogan without the belt is WEIRD. Awesome for the six minutes it got. Gigantic Harley Race bumping, nasty headbutts, and a motivated Hogan. Awesome brawl on the floor. Much like the SNME match vs. Terry Funk a few years prior, this is basically a TV friendly version of their awesome house show matches. Hogan falls on the ringside table, AND RACE TRIES A DIVING HEADBUTT OFF THE APRON BUT HOGAN MOVES AND HARLEY GOES THROUGH IT! That pretty much ends his career, but what a way to go out. He gets back in and eats the AXE BOMBAH~ and Legdrop and Hogan wins. Fuck it, I liked it enough to go for it. *** In the back, Gene talks to Ted and Virgil. Ted says this is sleazy politics, but he'll have his belt in a matter of weeks. Andre says he has a big surprise tonight, and says he's the man who's destroyed Hulkamania, and now he'll destroy the Madness too. In the back, Gene talks to Savage and Liz. Gene asks about the surprise, and Savage says macho talks, and money walks. He says Ted tried to buy the belt, and he come up with nothing, and he'll bounce Ted around like a bad check. Andre the Giant comes out to be in Ted DiBiase's corner. Match #3: Randy Savage vs. Ted DiBiase Liz, Andre, and Virgil are there. These two get 10 minutes, so this is great. Ted gets to show up a lot of his offense here, and Savage bumps and sells like the best in the company. Randy has his amazing comeback, and then it is Ted's turn to fly around the ring like a lunatic. That being said, this is very much a first match of a series, as they're kind of just doing stuff. It's Ted and Savage in their prime, so they're two of the best guys to just do "stuff" against each other at this point, so it's still a great match. Andre ends up attacking Savage on the floor and he throws him into the post. Elizabeth runs to the back and Ted wins by count out! *** Andre, Ted, and Virgil beat on Savage for several minutes, AND HULK HOGAN RUNS OUT TO SAVE WITH A CHAIR! They all leave and Elizabeth comes back to check on Randy. Hogan and Elizabeth help Randy up. Match #4: The Islanders w/ Bobby Heenan vs. The Killer Bees This was all of three minutes. Too much Bees offense for this to be much good, but the Islanders killing them at the end was great. Haku sneaks in a Superkick on Blair and Tama covers to win. *3/4 Match #5: The One Man Gang w/ Slick vs. Ken Patera This was also really short, but a lot of fun. Patera tries power stuff, but fails, so this is all about OMG killing him to get over. OMG hits a clothesline and then the 747 Splash to win. ** In the back, Gene is with Hulk Hogan. Hogan says this is the behavior of a stark raving Hulkamaniac, man. He says all of them threw the rulebook out and that's why Harley Race is out of action now, and he's coming for that big nasty giant too. |
