WWF Champion: Vacant WWF Intercontinental Champion: The Honky Tonk Man, Since 6/13/1987 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPION CURRENTLY WWF Tag Team Champions: Strike Force, Since 11/7/1987 WWF Superstars March 19th, 1988 Winston-Salem, NC Match #1: The Honky Tonk Man w/ Jimmy Hart vs. Jim Evans Good 90 second squash from Honky. He wins with the Shake, Rattle, and Roll. *1/4 Honky goes to sing his song, but the music stops. Honky demands it comes back on, but then Brutus Beefcake comes onto the interview stage. He says he's the one who CUT the music off, and seeing as he's on the CUTTING EDGE of wrestling in 1988, he was going to give Honky a little TRIM and take the belt away from him. SO BAD. Just when you thought he couldn't get any worse, with the terrible wrestling and big push and ridiculous gear and hair, he's now speaking solely in cutting-based puns. The sound is really iffy on this episode, so promos are next to impossible to decipher. But it's only a Hogan promo on the stage this week, so whatever. At this point, all the Mania stuff is in place, so the next episode and this one are basically filler to kill time. Match #2: Strike Force vs. Iron Mike Sharpe/John Ziegler They get 3 minutes, so once again, Strike Force rules. Martel actually shows up Tito a lot here, which is AWESOME foreshadowing. I'd never give post-2001 WWE/F credit for that kind of forward planning, but I can believe it here. Santana beats John with the Flying Forearm. ** Match #3: Koko B. Ware vs. Evan Stone KOKO SQUASH! YEAH! He is pretty clearly this generation's version of Evan Bourne. Awesome spots, tons of energy, great selling. And thusly is used to put guys over because he's so fucking great at it. If only Air Boom had matching checkered pants... Anyways, Ghostbuster ends it. ** Match #4: Ricky Steamboat vs. Dave Wagner Only 90 seconds, but it's good. This is Ricky's last squash in the WWF, since he's gone pretty much after Mania. Sad. He wins with the Crossbody. *1/4 Match #5: The One Man Gang w/ Slick vs. Rick Hunter Also only 90 seconds, but I guess they're afraid of giving OMG more time. He wins with the Gourdbuster. *1/2 Match #6: Ted DiBiase w/ Andre the Giant & Virgil vs. Scott Casey Quality squash yet again, but it being under 2 minutes holds it back a little bit. Ted wins with the Back Elbow Drop deal. Dude desperately needs an actual finish. *3/4 |

WWF Champion: Vacant WWF Intercontinental Champion: The Honky Tonk Man, Since 6/13/1987 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPION CURRENTLY WWF Tag Team Champions: Strike Force, Since 11/7/1987 WWF Superstars March 26th, 1988 Winston-Salem, NC Match #1: The British Bulldog w/ Koko B. Ware vs. Iron Mike Sharpe/Bill Newkirk Good good shit here. They got 3 minutes and finally hit the mark of their past dangerous and reckless near-Steiner level squashes. Rocket Launcher Headbutt gives them the win going into Mania. ** WWF UPDATE: -Craig just reviews the bracket. Yeah, fuck this, I want to get to Mania. All the cool stuff to be said has been said. -There's also another Bolsheviks stage interview on this episode. I'm starting to fear that they might actually get a push into a real feud or something. Match #2: Hercules w/ Bobby Heenan vs. Dave Stoudemire This blew. Torture Rack ends it. 1/2* Match #3: Jake Roberts vs. Pete Sanchez Again, only like 1:45 or so, so Jake doesn't get to really show off. Of course, it's not like he's that great a squash guy as a face, but he's pulled out a few surprising ones before. He wins with the DDT of course. *1/2 Match #4: Demolition w/ Mr. Fuji vs. Mark Richards/Mike Young Awesome squash as usual. But again, only 90 seconds or so, and thus Demolition doesn't get to truly murder a jobber, and instead just mauls them a few times. Decapitation gives them the win. *3/4 Match #5: Jim Duggan vs. Someone HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO * Match #6: Randy Savage w/ Miss Elizabeth vs. Terry Gibbs AGAIN ONLY 90 SECONDS. UGH. Savage does his thing and wins with the Flying Elbow. *1/2 |

WWF Champion: Vacant WWF Intercontinental Champion: The Honky Tonk Man, Since 6/13/1987 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPION CURRENTLY WWF Tag Team Champions: Strike Force, Since 11/7/1987 ![]() WWF WRESTLEMANIA IV MARCH 27TH, 1988 ATLANTIC CITY, NJ Gene welcomes everyone to the show and brings on Gladys Knight to sing "America the Beautiful" Match #1: 20 Man Battle Royal This is good fun for 10 minutes. Race and the Hart Foundation are the workhorses, as they last a while and provide most of the structure and cool offense and bumps. You have some other guys who contribute bits like Bad News Brown, Patera, The Rougeaus, Jim Powers, etc. Then there's useless lumps like Steele, the Bolsheviks, JYD, etc. Jesse and Bob Uecker spend the match trading sex jokes about Vanna White, which also rules. Comes down to Brown and Bret, and Bad News tosses him out to win. **1/4 Bret drives BNB from the ring and destroys the trophy! Hey, this is good, I'm ready for a Foundation face turn. Robin Leach comes out to read the rules of the tournament. Basic single elimination stuff. Match #2: Ted DiBiase w/ Andre the Giant & Virgil vs. Jim Duggan [1st Round] Only 5 minutes, but good. I'm going to type that basic idea for the rest of the tournament, since there's 15 more matches on this show. They work well together going back a few years in Mid-South. Ted has some beautiful theatrical bumps, and then some nasty looking chops are thrown by both guys. Andre trips Duggan up, and Ted hits a knee to the back and the Million Dollar Fistdrop to win. **1/4 Duggan drives them off with the 2x4, and Ted advances to the Quarterfinals. In the back, Gene is with Brutus. He makes horrible puns. Match #3: Don Muraco w/ Superstar Billy Graham vs. Dino Bravo w/ Frenchy Martin [1st Round] Well, this blew as well. Bravo throws the ref down and then hits the Sidewalk Slam, but the ref DQs him instead of counting to three. 3/4* It is now Ted vs. Muraco in the QF, with the winner of that fighting Hogan or Andre in the Semi-Finals. In the back, Uecker interviews HTM and Jimmy Hart. He asks where Vanna is, and then says Brutus is going to cut their hair. Honky asks Bob what his lifetime batting average is, if he wants to hear a joke. He says Brutus is the worst and he'll never take his title. Match #4: Ricky Steamboat vs. Greg Valentine w/ Jimmy Hart [1st Round] THEY GET 9 MINUTES?! FUCK YEAH, IT RULED. Not as blowaway great as their 1985 IC Title stuff, but it's the MOTN so far. Steamboat does good matwork and Valentine gets really violent with elbows and knees, and breaks out a killer Lariat. They start totally brutalizing each other with stuff, and it turns out awesomely. Valentine rolls through a Crossbody with the tights for what seems like a pretty huge upset. *** In the back, Gene is with the Bulldogs and Koko. Matilda is back and Davey says she's now a weasel dog, trained to hunt weasel, and they'll show it out tonight. Koko says he smells a weasel hunt, and he's trained Frankie too. Match #5: Randy Savage vs. Butch Reed [1st Round] Liz and Slick are both there. This is a total dream match of 80s wrestling, but it only gets 4 minutes. Still though, it's good for the time it gets. Huge Savage bumping, big Butch Reed offense, etc. Butch controls it, but Savage catches him climbing up top, throws him off, and immediately hits the Flying Elbow to win. **1/4 It is now Savage vs. Valentine in the finals in a battle of the two best Intercontinental Champions so far in the 80s review. I give Valentine the edge over Tito because their best matches happened during the Valentine run, and he also had the Steamboat feud. In the back, Uecker interviews Bobby Heenan and The Islanders. Heenan says he's not worried about Matilda, because The Islanders are his attack dogs, and if that mutt comes after him, he's going to make that vet that they sent Matilda to a lot more money than he could imagine. Match #6: Bam Bam Bigelow vs. The One Man Gang [1st Round] UGH ONLY 3 MINUTES?! This ruled, because it's well established that I mark out for big fat dudes running and smacking the shit out of each other. Bigelow ends up taking a nasty bump to the floor when Slick lowbridges him out, and he is counted out as a result, so OMG wins and moves on. ** In the back, Gene interviews Hogan, and oh my god, this is the greatest Hogan promo in WWF history. Not as insane as the WCW promo where he threatens to lynch The Giant and drag him down the road on his motorcycle. "I've seen the fear in the little Hulksters' eyes, brother, and I can tell you why, because when I slam Andre the Giant through the Trump Plaza, the fault line from here to Florida is going to break off, and as Andre the Giant falls into the ocean, and as my next two opponents fall into the ocean floor and I pin 'em, SO WILL DONALD TRUMP AND ALL THE HULKAMANIACS! But as Donald Trump hangs onto the top of the Trump Plaza with one arm, with his family under the other arm, as they sink to the bottom of the sea, THANK GOD DONALD TRUMP'S A HULKAMANIAC! HE'LL KNOW ENOUGH TO LET GO OF HIS MATERIALISTIC POSSESSIONS (AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA), HANG ON TO THE WIFE AND KIDS, DOG PADDLE WITH HIS WIFE ALL THE WAY TO SAFETY! But Donald, if something happens, and you run outta gas, and all those little Hulkamaniacs run out of gas, JUST HANG ON TO THE LARGEST BACK IN THE WORLD, AND I'LL DOG PADDLE US, BACKSTROKE ALL OF US TO SAFETY!" Hogan then backstrokes his way off screen. Match #7: Jake Roberts vs. Rick Rude w/ Bobby Heenan [1st Round] Winner of this meats OMG, at least in theory. Somehow, this is the longest match of the night at a perfect 15 minutes. This is part of the storyline, as it goes to a 15:00 draw. It's better than I expected again, so it appears Rude has turned the corner into an actual good wrestler now, and we just have to wait for him to actually become great in a year or so. This is like a lesser version of the great Jake/Rude match, with Rude avoiding the DDT a lot. He's not as good a bumper, stooger, or offensive wrestler as Ted though. Still a solid match though. And yeah, the 15 minute time limit runs out. **3/4 Jake runs Rude and Heenan off with Damien. Since it was a draw, One Man Gang now gets a bye into the Semi-Finals! QUARTERFINALS BRACKET: -Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant -Ted DiBiase vs. Don Muraco -Randy Savage vs. Greg Valentine (winner faces OMG) Match #8: The Ultimate Warrior vs. Hercules w/ Bobby Heenan This sure happens. Warrior gets his arm up on a Bridging Back Suplex to win. * Herc brings in the chain, but Warrior gets it and runs him off. A hype video airs for Hogan/Andre, going back all the way to the awesome build for WrestleMania III too. Match #9: Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant w/ Ted DiBiase & Virgil [Quarterfinals] This is only 5 minutes, so it's half the time of their first two matches. It's good stuff, in the same way that the first two matches were. Psychologically strong to make up for weakness in execution. Andre attacks Hogan at the start now, BUT HOGAN THROWS FUCKING FOREARMS?! HOGAN HAS SOME AWESOME RUNNING FOREARMS! WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON?! These forearms are like 7 or 8 out of 10 if 10 is a Misawa running forearm. Way too good for Hogan. Cool spot where Andre catches Hogan in mid-elbow drop and begins choking him while lying down. Ted hits Hogan with a chair, but he takes it. Andre and Hogan hit each other with the chair, and the ref calls it a double DQ! **1/4 Hogan chases Ted to the back, and then he Suplexes Virgil on the ramp! He comes back in and slams Andre, AND AS A RESULT, THE WINNER OF THE NEXT MATCH GETS A BYE INTO THE FINALS! In the back, Gene interviews Savage and Liz. Savage says Hogan is a cheated man, not a defeated man. He says Hogan has never been defeated, but Savage has beaten him repeatedly by count out. Savage says he has the Madness on his side and has the blessing of the Mania too, and nothing's gonna stop him. ALL THE WAY, YEAH! ELIZABETH, LET'S GO DO IT! Match #10: Ted DiBiase vs. Don Muraco w/ Superstar Billy Graham [Quarterfinals] This was a decent six minutes. Muraco still isn't much as a babyface, but Ted knocks it out of the park every time with his bumping and selling. That carries this into being something decent, if not overly great. Ted catches Muraco running, and he hits a Hot Shot into the top rope throat-first, and pins him with the tights to win. **1/4 AND DIBIASE IS GOING TO THE FINALS NOW! Match #11: Randy Savage vs. Greg Valentine [Quarterfinals] Liz and Jimmy Hart are there. This is six minutes, and this is good, but not as great as they should be capable of. Valentine throws his nasty elbows, and again, Savage is controlled for much of the match, but he squeaks out a win when he counters the Figure Four into a cradle for the win. **1/2 It will now be Savage vs. OMG in the semi-finals. In the back, Gene is with Vanna White as they adjust the tournament board. Gene says Bob Uecker is looking for her, and she has no idea who that is. Match #12: The Honky Tonk Man [c] w/ Jimmy Hart & Peggy Sue vs. Brutus Beefcake [WWF Intercontinental Championship] Hey, this blew. At least it was only 6 minutes. Honky, I've discovered, is a guy who doesn't exactly work up to the level of his opponents, but works around their level. So against Savage, the best in the company, Honky seems like a good wrestler. Against Brutus, easily the worst singles guy in the company who's getting a push, Honky seems right there too. They do stuff and as Brutus has the Sleeper on, Jimmy Hart hits the ref in the back with the megaphone to force a DQ. Great finish. * Beefcake tries to cut Jimmy's hair, but Peggy throws water on Honky to revive him, and he pulls Jimmy Hart out and to safety. This happens, and is awesome: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMFqdMNbMSo Match #13: The Islanders/Bobby Heenan vs. The British Bulldogs/Koko B. Ware Matilda is back in the Bulldogs' corner. This gets 7-8 minutes, so it's pretty fun. Heenan comes out in a unfirom that an attack dog trainer wears, with padded pants and a shirt that cannot be bit through. Amazing. Koko had some fun high flying spots, and the Bulldogs/Islanders pairing was solid. Bobby gets in and beaten on, but Haku Superkicks Koko and they throw Bobby on top to win. **1/2 They get Matilda, and they chase off Heenan and The Islanders. Jesus, that's the third time they've done that angle tonight. Match #4: Randy Savage vs. One Man Gang [Semi-Finals] Liz and Slick are there. This is, ugh, a decent 4 minutes. I'm less mad about the time with this because I'm 99% sure they have house show matches after this. But it was a great power/speed match. Savage makes a comeback, and OMG hits him with Slick's cane for the DQ. ** The finals are now set as Savage vs. Ted. Match #15: Strike Force [c] vs. Demolition w/ Mr. Fuji [WWF Tag Team Championship] I love Demolition, so I'm not sad this is happening, but I wish they gave Strike Force more to do with the titles, since pretty much as soon as 1988 hit, they stopped being in any kind of feuds and were waiting for 3 months for this, so they could lose them. This is a better version of Demolition/Rougeaus, with the pretty boy babyfaces basically being steamrolled. Tito and Martel get a little more offense though, and have cooler spots, and are better babyfaces. Tito is a great face in peril and then gets the tag with one of his best Flying Forearms ever, and Martel has an AWESOME hot tag. He gets Smash in the Boston Crab, and Tito goes to hit Fuji to get him to stop distracting the ref. He drops the cane and Ax hits Martel with it and Smash covers to win the belts. *** Robin Leach comes out with the WWF Title belt for the final. Bob Uecker comes back out to do the ring introductions, including guest timekeeper Vanna White. Match #16: Randy Savage w/ Miss Elizabeth vs. Ted DiBiase w/ Andre the Giant [Finals - WWF Championship] This gets 9 minutes, so they can have a real match. More of a storyline thing than a real match, but again, these two are great enough to make it great. Sort of reminds me of how after like 1999 or so, Rock and Triple H could just throw bullshit out there for 10 minutes, and it would be great no matter what. Andre keeps tripping Savage, and yeah, both men take huge bumps and have great looking offense. Savage then does an awesome thing, where he refuses to wrestle on Andre's part of the ring, and where he normally runs off the ropes a lot, he does almost none of that. Andre steps in front of Ted on the floor to block Savage's dive, so Savage talks to Liz, and she goes to the back! AND SHE COMES BACK WITH HULK HOGAN! FUCK YEAH! Ted's taken over by now, and it rules. Savage's fatigue selling is amazing. Savage makes his comeback, but Andre AGAIN trips Randy. TED GETS THE DREAM ON, BUT AS THE REF DEALS WITH ANDRE, HOGAN GETS IN AND HITS DIBIASE IN THE BACK WITH A CHAIR IN REVENGE! RANDY GOES UP AND HITS THE FLYING ELBOW AND WINS THE FUCKING BELT! YEAH! *** Hogan hands Savage the title and shakes his hand, and holds up both Savage and Elizabeth's hands. He leaves Savage to have his moment, as he is not yet an irredeemable piece of shit in this storyline. Savage hoists Miss Elizabeth up on his shoulder in one of the best visuals in company history. ![]() Edited by Big Tuna, Oct 18 2012, 06:53 PM.

Press slam and Splash gets the win. *1/2 WWF UPDATE: -A recap airs of Andre's rage last week -Lord Al says that as a result, Bobby Heenan has been re-hired as Andre's manager Match #2: Dino Bravo w/ Frenchy Martin vs. Reno Riggins FUCK YEAH RENO RIGGINS! He is not enough of a super jobber to carry Dino though. I don't think anybody but Barry Horowitz is though. 3/4* Match #3: Strike Force vs. The Conquistadors This gets 3 minutes and now Strike Force is pissed off, so this is great. Martel has tons of cool fiery offense and Tito wins with the Flying Forearm. ** Match #4: One Man Gang w/ Slick vs. Van Van Horne This episode is only 39 minutes long, so it looks like the promos got cut out this week. This is once again only 90 seconds and Gang kills him. He wins with the Gourdbuster. *1/2 WRESTLEMANIA IV REPORT: -Gene again runs down the card -He hypes up the Dragon/Valentine issue, which never happens because Steamboat is done now ![]() Match #5: The Junkyard Dog vs. Bob Bryant Well, this blew. THUMP. Craig is on the stage, and he brings out Rick Rude and Bobby Heenan. Rude says it's time for the Rude Awakening, and he picks a lady from the crowd. Rude lets her take off his robe, and makes out with her. Match #6: Ted DiBiase w/ Virgil vs. Frankie DeFalco Ted is now making his spring residence in Palm Beach, FL. They do stuff and Ted is still a good squash guy. Under 2 minutes though, and Ted wins with the debuting (as a finish) Million Dollar Dream. *3/4 WRESTLEMANIA IV REPORT: -Gene now goes over the HTM/Brutus match with clips Match #7: The Islanders w/ Bobby Heenan vs. Tony Park/Mark Young They get 3 minutes, so The Islanders are great here. Rick Rude w/ Bobby Heenan vs. Koko B. Ware, Prime Time Wrestling (April 11th) This was a ton of fun. Rude sells and bumps well, looking the best he ever has in that regard, and Koko is awesome. They do some awesome fast paced basic stuff at the open, before Rude takes over. Koko has a sweet and energetic comeback, but before they can get to something great, Bobby Heenan grabs Frankie to distract Koko. The Bulldogs run out and chase Heenan off with Matilda. Rude chases after them to save Heenan, and Koko wins by count out! FUCK YEAH! **3/4 |

WWF Champion: Randy Savage, Since 3/27/1988 WWF Intercontinental Champion: The Honky Tonk Man, Since 6/13/1987 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPION CURRENTLY WWF Tag Team Champions: Demolition, Since 3/27/1988 WWF Superstars April 16th, 1988 Cape Girardeau, MO Match #1: Rick Rude w/ Bobby Heenan vs. Reno Riggins Quality 2 minute squash. Rude's already improved a ton in the last 4 months, and he seems to be getting better with every few weeks. It's comparable to the improvement of a guy like Randy Orton in 2004 or The Rock in 1998. He wins with the Rude Awakening. ** Rude again picks another lady from the crowd to make out with. WWF UPDATE: -Apparently, Outlaw Ron Bass and JYD are feuding now -No thanks Match #2: Jim Duggan vs. Pete Sanchez Short acceptable Duggan squash. *1/4 Andre and Heenan come out, but Duggan doesn't let them get in the ring, using the 2x4. WRESTLEMANIA IV REPORT: -WHY IS THIS STILL HAPPENING?! -Ken Patera says Dino Bravo's record is a sham and Jesse helped him -NO. THIS FEUD? WHY?! Match #3: The Honky Tonk Man w/ Jimmy Hart & Greg Valentine vs. Omar Atlas Short acceptable HTM squash. Whatever. Shake, Rattle, and Roll ends it. *1/4 WRESTLEMANIA IV REPORT: -This isn't even about Mania anymore, it's just dudes cutting promos about their new feuds in front of the WrestleMania set -The Young Stallions don't like The Bolsheviks, because the WWF is testing me with four terrible feuds now Match #4: The British Bulldogs vs. Dusty Wolfe/Barry Horowitz Good stuff, but also too short for them to be great. The Rocket Launcher Headbutt wins them another match. *3/4 Craig is on the stage, and he brings out Dino Bravo and Frenchy Martin. They cut a promo to further this new and horrible feud. Did I offend a warlock or something? There's no reason for Bravo/Patera, Stallions/Bolsheviks, JYD/Bass, and HTM/Brutus to all be happening at the same time. Match #5: Don Muraco vs. Jerry Hall Only 45 seconds and Muraco wins with the Tombstone. 3/4* Match #6: Bad News Brown vs. Jim Evans This is also really short, at just over a minute. Good brutal offense, and Brown wins with the Ghetto Blaster. *1/2 WRESTLEMANIA IV REPORT: -Footage of the battle royal airs -Bret Hart says he's badder than Bad News Brown, and he'll bust him up like that trophy Match #7: Koko B. Ware vs. Tom Stone Koko gets a 2 minute squash, and I am all on board for this sudden Koko push. He wins with the Ghostbuster. *3/4 |

WWF Champion: Randy Savage, Since 3/27/1988 WWF Intercontinental Champion: The Honky Tonk Man, Since 6/13/1987 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPION CURRENTLY WWF Tag Team Champions: Demolition, Since 3/27/1988 WWF Superstars of Wrestling April 23rd, 1988 Cape Girardeau, MO Match #1: Jake Roberts vs. Chris Curtis Quality under 2 minute Jake squash. He wins with the DDT. *1/2 WWF UPDATE: -Hulk Hogan has won the Kids Choice Award for athlete of the year Match #2: Ted DiBiase w/ Virgil vs. Outback Jack This gets a full 2 minutes now, so Ted gets to show off a little more. He still seems to have trouble putting out a truly great squash for whatever reason. I remember this problem in 1990 and 91 too, so it's just a weird anomaly with Ted. He wins with the Million Dollar Dream. *3/4 Ted puts money in his mouth post-match. WWF EVENTS CENTER: -The events center has finally finished construction -Heenan and The Islanders and says they'll get rid of both Bulldogs. Haku asks what they do after they beat the Bulldogs again. Heenan says to do it again until they stop fighting back, and Haku says whatever Bobby says, because he's the boss. -The Bulldogs says they remember Matilda's kidnapping and they want revenge and they are so fucking boring on the mic. Bring back Captain Lou Match #3: Outlaw Ron Bass vs. Lanny Poffo this happens, and is a Ron Bass match. Proto Pedigree ends it. *1/4 WWF EVENTS CENTER: -Bret Hart says no man has put fear in his heart, and Brown has pushed him too far -Bad News Brown says he got the name because when he went on the street, they was in for bad news, and it'll be bad news for Bret, because he's coming Match #4: Brutus Beefcake vs. Bob Bryant NOPE. Craig brings Duggan onto the stage. He says when you stand eye to eye with the largest human in the world, you learn about yourself, and he says he doesn't fear that man. He says Andre has no backbone and the 2x4 will take any giant down. HOOOOOOOOOOOOO. TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIMBER! Match #5: Rick Rude w/ Bobby Heenan vs. Jake Milliman Only 90 seconds, but it is really good again. He wins with the Rude Awakening. *1/2 Rude goes to find another broad to make out with, and spots one sitting down in the front row. She doesn't want to get up, so they go out and tell her it's ok. Rude says she's looking fine tonight and Heenan says she's playing hard to get. Rude says she might be intimidated by the sexiest man alive, but they know she's here to see The Ravishing One. She says he's wrong and he asks why she's here to see. She says her husband, and Rude asks where her husband is, and asks what he does. She says he's a wrestler and Heenan says he's probably that ham and egger they just wiped the mat with. Rude asks who it is, AND SHE SAYS JAKE ROBERTS! YEAH! Rude says that man is a sleazy piece of garbage, and that makes her just as much of a lowlife as him, AND SHE SLAPS HIM! He grabs her, and Jake Roberts runs down to save! They brawl up the ramp and get held apart. Great angle. |

Jake Roberts vs. Greg Valentine, Toronto (April 24th) This was fantastic. Greg Valentine continues to have a sleeper year here, as he puts on another great match. This is clearly a b-level house show, so they put on a lot of matwork and shit. Really good little things, like Jake trying to kick out Greg's knees to avoid being pinned in a knuckle lock, which Greg then countered by knee dropping Jake's ankles. Lots of cool subtleties like that. Greg Valentine isn't the discovery of this project, that's probably Tito or Savage (in that I didn't know he was a G.O.A.T. level guy before this), but he's in the top 5. He works the leg and Jake's selling is a thing of beauty. He keeps using the ropes to stay up on his feet, and Greg uses his elbows to get him down on the mat every time. Jake tries the DDT, but he's too focused on keeping pressure of his leg, and it allows Greg to avoid it. A little later on, he snaps it off out of nowhere for the win. ***1/4 |

Bret Hart vs. Bad News Brown, MSG (April 25th) This was a 20 minute draw, and that was too long. This was still a really good and enjoyable match, but Brown does not have 20 minutes in him and Bret is not at the peak of his carrying powers yet. He's starting to improve finally, but maybe that's just him working face now. Good technician vs. fighter story here, and everything looks good. It just doesn't get to that next level because it doesn't seem like this pairing in this length is capable of that. **3/4 Randy Savage [c] vs. Ted DiBiase [WWF Championship], MSG (April 25th) Miss Elizabeth and Virgil are both there. This is 12 minutes, and they're starting to develop more of set routine now instead of just a lot of "stuff". They still show off to some extent, since this is the most workrate friendly WWF Title pairing in history, as far as I'm aware of. Maybe there's a Backlund pairing that is, but I doubt it. Savage works the arm while Ted also bumps around a lot. Ted unfortunately forgets about the arm, but the rest of the match is good enough to overlook that a little. Quality finishing run and Virgil shoves Savage off the top to the floor behind the ref's back, and Ted wins by count out. *** Demolition [c] w/ Mr. Fuji vs. Strike Force [WWF Tag Team Championship], MSG (April 25th) This is only 7 minutes, but it's still great. Completely frantic pace throughout, as Strike Force jumps Demolition. They now know they can't try to contain Demolition, and they have to take it to them to get anywhere. Tito even breaks out some lucha stuff to confuse them. Martel is FIP this time, and Tito has the hot tag. Tito is not as good of a hot tag. He hits the Flying Forearm and goes for the Figure Four while Martel fights with the other Dem. member, but it allow Fuji to hit Tito with the cane and he is covered and pinned . *** |

WWF Champion: Randy Savage, Since 3/27/1988 WWF Intercontinental Champion: The Honky Tonk Man, Since 6/13/1987 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPION CURRENTLY WWF Tag Team Champions: Demolition, Since 3/27/1988 WWF Superstars April 30th, 1988 New Haven, CT Match #1: The Ultimate Warrior vs. Joe Milano This is too short to be of much note, but it was decent. Slam and Splash ends it for Warrior. 3/4* WWF UPDATE: -Lord Al recaps the Rude/Jake angle Match #2: The Junkyard Dog vs. Iron Mike Sharpe This happened. THUMP. Match #3: Danny Davis w/ Jimmy Hart vs. Mario Mancini Are you kidding me? No. This sucked too. Davis does a really horrible looking Seated Senton to win. 1/2* WWF EVENTS CENTER: -Bobby Heenan and Andre stand by. Heenan says Duggan got a lucky shot to escape Andre's grasp, but the lucky shot will never happen again. Andre says as he choked the life out of Hulk Hogan, he will do the same to Duggan -Bad News Brown calls Bret Hart a slimy dog and says he's gonna break a bone in his body for every piece of that trophy that got broken Match #4: Dino Bravo w/ Frenchy Martin vs. Unnamed Jobber OH MY GOD, WORST EPISODE EVER. EVENTS CENTER: -Honky says the public demands that Brutus is shaved in revenge for what he did to Jimmy Hart, and says nobody is putting the greatest Intercontinental Champion of all time to sleep or cutting his hair -Brutus then says words. Fuck him. Match #5: The Young Stallions vs. Barry Horowitz/Steve Lombardi This happened. It was all of 90 seconds and by default, was MOTN so far. Powers wins with a Powerslam. * Craig brings Heenan and Andre the Giant onto the stage and asks about Hacksaw Jim Duggan. They basically repeat their remarks from the Events Center promo, so that was poor planning. Heenan adds to his comments by saying only a lunatic with a weapon could knock out Andre the Giant, but even then it was only for a minute. Andre says Duggan was stupid enough to challenge him, and now it is his turn to put him down. A commercial for NWA Main Event airs. Match #6: Greg Valentine w/ Jimmy Hart vs. George Steele This is 3 minutes and it sucked. I mean, it's a match that's 95% Steele offense in 1988, so that's not shocking. Steele chases Hart to the back on the floor, and thus loses 3/4* Match #7: Demolition w/ Mr. Fuji vs. Jose Luis Rivera/Scott Casey JOSE'S BACK! YEAH! This was 3 minutes, so it was real brutal and violent and Demolition is the best. Decapitation beats Casey. ** |

WWF Champion: Randy Savage, Since 3/27/1988 WWF Intercontinental Champion: The Honky Tonk Man, Since 6/13/1987 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPION CURRENTLY WWF Tag Team Champions: Demolition, Since 3/27/1988 ![]() WWF SATURDAY NIGHT'S MAIN EVENT APRIL 30TH, 1988 SPRINGFIELD, MA TONIGHT: SAVAGE/OMG FOR THE BELT! HERC VS. DUGGAN! RUDE VS. KOKO! DEMOLITION VS. BULLDOGS! PROMOS: -Duggan says it's spring cleaning time in the WWF, TOUGH GUY! -Heenan says Duggan is an idiot and a coward with his weapon, but when you wrestle one member of the Heenan Family, you wrestle them all, and he's going to be renamed Jigsaw Jim, because there's going to be a lot of missing pieces -Slick says they was robbed at WrestleMania IV and the whole world saw it. He says the Slickster doesn't get mad, he gets bad, and the Madness will go down to the badness -Savage says to FREAK OUT FREAK OUT, YEAH! He can feel the Madness, yeah, and it's the first title match on television. Macho Madness is gonna surround him, yeah! In the back, Gene talks to The Heenan Family. Heenan calls Gene a jerk, and says when you cross one of them, you cross the entire Heenan Family, and Jigsaw Jim will not get away with what he's done. Match #1: Jim Duggan vs. Hercules w/ Bobby Heenan & Andre the Giant This was really horrible for like 8 minutes. Duggan wins by DQ when Heenan pulls the ref out of the ring and off of a cover. 1/2* Andre and Herc attack, but Warrior runs out and throws Duggan his 2x4, and they run off The Heenan Family. Clips air of Brutus/HTM from Mania. Horrible promos for the next match. Match #2: Brutus Beefcake vs. Danny Davis w/ Jimmy Hart OH MY GOD, NO THANKS. After winning, Brutus cuts Danny's hair like the bully he is. Video airs of the finish of Savage/OMG from Mania. In the back, Gene talks to Slick and OMG. Slick says Gene must be blind or stupid, because the Gang only defended him from that lunatic and the woman had the referee out of position. Slick says they beat the dude once and they'll beat him again, and that belt belongs to the One Man Gang. In the back, Gene talks to Savage and Liz. Gene congratulates Elizabeth on being the first woman to manage a champion. Liz says it's all Randy, and he says she's the inspiration, and he's on top of the mountain, yeah. He says he's going past the danger zone to the wild world of Madness, Macho Madness, yeah! He says it's going to surround One Man Gang, and Gene asks about Slick. Savage says he's the Macho Man and this is the first lady of wrestling. ELIZABETH, DOWN THAT AISLE! Match #3: Randy Savage [c] vs. One Man Gang [WWF Championship] This is only 6 minutes, but it's a lot of fun and a great match. Really frantic and desperate Savage performance. He bumps all over, is super quick, etc. Really gets across the desperation you'd expect from a new champion in a big/little match like this. Slick accidentally hits OMG with the cane, and Savage hits the Flying Elbow to win. **3/4 In the back, Gene talks to the Bulldogs. Davey says after the job Matilda did to Bobby Heenan, she'll get the best, and they want the titles back. In the back, Gene talks to Demolition and Fuji. They say they are the faces of pain, and when their opponents look on, they see the face of pain laughing them. They then walk off yelling PAIN. Match #4: Demolition w/ Mr. Fuji vs. The British Bulldogs Only 6 minutes also, but it is good. Sort of a preview of a later match though. Fuji gets the cane, but the Bulldogs chase him to the back. They come back and break the cane. They use the cane halves as weapons for the obvious DQ. **1/4 Match #5: Ted DiBiase vs. Don Muraco Virgil and Graham are there. This is decent like at Mania, but not overly great. Only 4 minutes, and Ted hits a slam and covers for 3, despite his foot being on the ropes. It looked like Virgil was supposed to push his foot off the rope, but that never happened. Great work, Virgil. ** In the back, Gene talks to Randy Savage. He calls Elizabeth the inspiration again. He tells the Million Dollar Man to come for the WWF Title, because Macho Madness has that momentum, and he'll end up BANKRUPT, YEAH! Match #6: Rick Rude w/ Bobby Heenan vs. Koko B. Ware Really good, but also only 3 minutes. No reason this show needed 2 more matches than usual. Koko and Rude work well together and Rude wins with the Rude Awakening. ** |

WWF Champion: Randy Savage, Since 3/27/1988 WWF Intercontinental Champion: The Honky Tonk Man, Since 6/13/1987 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPION CURRENTLY WWF Tag Team Champions: Demolition, Since 3/27/1988 WWF Superstars May 7th, 1988 New Haven, CT Match #1: Strike Force vs. Terry Gibbs/Ron Rovishod Another great Strike Force squash, and they may be even better now that they're pissed off about losing the tag titles. Tito beats Ron with the Flying Forearm. ** WWF UPDATE: -Lord Al hypes up Bad News Brown Match #2: Bret Hart vs. Van Van Horne Interestingly, no Jimmy Hart there. Bret does fine in his first singles squash, and he wins with a Piledriver. *1/2 EVENTS CENTER: -Jimmy Hart has been barred from the Boston Garden tonight for HTM/Brutus -Heenan and Andre are standing by. Heenan says neither of them should be responsible for what happens to Jim Duggan when he steps in the ring. -Bad News Brown says every time Bret Hart hears his name, he cries and can't sleep. He says he understands why. -Bret Hart says a man is only as good as his word, and Bad News Brown's word is worthless, and so is he Match #3: One Man Gang w/ Slick vs. Reno Riggins He's been demoted to under a minute now. He wins with the Gourdbuster.* Match #4: Jake Roberts vs. Scott Colantonio He also got around a minute. DDT ends it. * EVENTS CENTER: -Honky Tonk Man says he's not bothered and this shows that the people of the WWF want the Honky Tonk Man's belt and his hair, and they think that without Jimmy Hart in his corner, they'll take both, but they've all got another thing coming -Brutus says words Match #5: Ted DiBiase w/ Virgil vs. Bill Woods Ted attacks the jobber with his jacket on, and he never gets a chance to take it off. Ted is upset again, and thus delivers a brutal squash as he is prone to do every few months it seems. He wins with the Million Dollar Dream. ** Craig brings Randy Savage and Elizabeth onto the stage for an interview, but Ted DiBiase is walking to the back when they come out. Randy and Ted have words, and Randy challenges him to fight now, but Ted says he's not getting in the ring with him unless he gives him his rightful title match. Randy says they don't have to do it in the ring if he wants to fight then, and referees come out to hold them apart. Match #6: The Islanders/High Chief Afi w/ Bobby Heenan vs. Outback Jack/Brady Boone/STEVE BLACKMAN WAIT WHAT?! Blackman in a mullet is weird. This is the final Islanders match, as Tama leaves soon after. Afi is useless, but The Islanders sure do rule. Tama wins with his Flying Splash on that sack of shit Brady Boone. *1/2 Match #7: The Honky Tonk Man w/ Jimmy Hart vs. Hillbilly Jim Decent 2 minutes. Hard to fuck up a 2 minute match. Honky avoids a corner charge and gets an O'Connor Roll hooking the overalls for the win. *1/2 |

Jake Roberts vs. Greg Valentine, Boston (May 7th) This was basically just their Toronto match again, but shorter. All the great little touches and awesome knee selling was still there, just not as much of it, and thus, it was less great. Jake wins with a DDT summoned out of the blue. *** The Rougeau Brothers vs. The Killer Bees, Boston (May 7th) Acceptable match. Rougeaus clearly carry it, but whatever. They do some stuff, and as Brunzell tries to hit Raymond with a Running Powerslam, Jacques comes off the top with an axe handle to Ray's back to knock him on top of Brunzell for the win. Great finish idea. **1/2 Rick Rude vs. Koko B. Ware, Boston (May 7th) They get 10 minutes now with a real finish, so this is really good. Takes a bit to get going, unlike the PTW match, but this has a better finish, so it's about even. Koko is a ton of fun on defense and Rude's control seg is a lot of fun. Good comeback, and Rude wins clean with the Rude Awakening. **3/4 Demolition [c] w/ Mr. Fuji vs. Strike Force [WWF Tag Team Championship], Boston (May 7th) This was great for a third time. Strike Force continue to be the kings lately of changing stuff just enough from match to match to keep it fresh while also keeping it to the stuff that works great. Awesome babyface stuff and Demolition is really brutal again. This time, Martel takes the cane from Fuji, but as Tito tries the Figure Four, Fuji throws salt in his face and Smash rolls him up to win. *** |

WWF Champion: Randy Savage, Since 3/27/1988 WWF Intercontinental Champion: The Honky Tonk Man, Since 6/13/1987 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPION CURRENTLY WWF Tag Team Champions: Demolition, Since 3/27/1988 WWF Superstars May 21st, 1988 Duluth, MN To open the show in a pretape, Ted and Virgil stand by. Ted says Savage is such a bad champion that he'll give him to Virgil, and Virgil is going to embarrass him beyond belief tonight! Match #1: Randy Savage vs. Virgil Liz and DiBiase are on the floor. Savage gets a great showcase for 4 minutes and Virgil tries his best not to fuck it up too bad. Savage wins with the Flying Elbow. ** Savage and DiBiase finally make contact after the bell, and they get pulled apart by referees and other wrestlers including Demolition, Valentine, Koko, Muraco, Jake, and Bret. Match #2: Greg Valentine w/ Jimmy Hart vs. Jim Evans The Hammer is now wearing his shin protector. Valentine continues his sleeper year with another awesome and brutal squash. Nasty elbows and chops to start, then great knee work going into the Figure Four for the finish after turning the shinguard around to help push down on it. ** Looks like the promos might have been cut out again, as there's rough edits between matches. Before Bret's squash, he sends Jimmy Hart to the back. Match #3: Bret Hart vs. Steve Lombardi Bret does well again, but is not great yet. Piledriver ends it. *1/2 Or not. EVENTS CENTER: -Boston return is June 4th -STRIKE FORCE/WARRIOR VS. DEMOLITION/FUJI, DUGGAN VS. ANDRE, RUDE VS. JAKE -Rick Rude says he chose his old lady out of the goodness of his heart, but he had no idea she had as little taste as she has. He says nobody slaps his beautiful face, and asks if it hurt worse for Jake to get manhandled or to watch him manhandle his old lady -Demolition and Fuji talk. They say Strike Force got themselves a big man, but they have the smartest man. Smash says Warrior is dumb, just like Strike Force, and their ace in the hole is Master Fuji, because he created them, Match #4: Don Muraco vs. Billy Anderson This happened for a minute or so. Tombstone ends it. 3/4* EVENTS CENTER: -Jim Duggan says he tried to play by the rules, but Andre and The Heenan Family are cheaters. He says this piece of wood is his property, and he'll never let Andre get his hands all over his piece of wood, tough guy! LOLOLOLOLOLOL -Bobby Heenan says the 2x4 should be outlawed, and he doesn't like this one bit. Andre says the board will stay in the corner and he won't give him a chance to get lucky again -Bret Hart says Bad News Brown got lucky last time, but now they have 20 minutes instead of 15, and time is on his side. TIME IS ON HIS SIDE, YES IT IS. AWESOME PROMOS THIS WEEK. Match #5: Rick Rude w/ Bobby Heenan vs. Scott Casey Really good, but only 90 seconds. Rude wins with the Rude Awakening. *1/2 Rude makes out with a local post-match. Match #6: Demolition w/ Mr. Fuji vs. Buck Zumhoffe/Warren Bianchi FUCK YEAH BUCK ZUMHOFFE! AWESOME! Demolition pulls off another good squash, but it's under 2 minutes. They need to stick to a solid 5-6 squashes and not reach for 7. *3/4 Craig interviews Brutus on the stage, and hey, nah. Match #7: Koko B. Ware vs. Terry Gibbs Somehow, this is the longest squash since the second match. Koko rules on offense and has a ton of energy, so this is a great 2 minutes. He wins with the Ghostbuster. *3/4 |

Bret Hart vs. Bad News Brown, Philadelphia (May 21st) This is the same story as the MSG match, just of lesser quality. They seem to be more content sitting around holds and killing time here, so it was only average instead of really good. Bret tries to ground BNB, and Brown tries to beat up Bret in a brawl. Neither really has their way and they go to a "20 minute" draw that is really about 17 minutes. **1/2 Jake Roberts vs. Rick Rude, Philadelphia (May 21st) This is their first match as a feuding pair, so it's a different match than at Mania and they're working the kinks out. Still somewhat disappointing. Jake has a lot of fire, but there's a lot of daylight on some of the punches the camera catches, and Rude is taking huge bumps for phantom bumps. They have good DDT teases and Jake's selling is great. He reverses an O'Connor Roll into one of his own for the pin out of nowhere. They can improve a lot from here. **1/2 |

The Islanders/Bobby Heenan vs. The British Bulldogs/Koko B. Ware, MSG (May 27th) THIS has to be the final Tama match and the final real Islanders match. It's pretty fun. Heenan is in more than at Mania IV and takes a ton of bumps and is the perfect manager in a match stooging heel. Koko and the Bulldogs do all their stuff well and The Islanders have a final great control seg. Koko has a killer hot tag and the Bulldogs do some stuff, but Heenan gets brass knucks and hits Koko with them for the win. **3/4 Randy Savage [c] vs. Ted DiBiase [WWF Championship], MSG (May 27th) Another great 11 minutes between these two. As expected, Liz and Virgil are there on the floor. Both men take several insane bumps. They avoided limbwork now, which is a good idea for a WWF main event pairing. I almost think it's a stylistic preference there. Rock/Austin, Hogan/Savage, Savage/Ted, Rock/H, Cena/Orton, Cena/Edge. All the classic WWF/E title rivalries that deliver in business and in the ring seem to avoid any real limbwork. Ted undoes the top turnbuckle but then when he gets the Dream on, Savage runs him into it when he ducks and then hits the Flying Elbow, but Virgil attacks for the DQ. *** |

WWF Champion: Randy Savage, Since 3/27/1988 WWF Intercontinental Champion: The Honky Tonk Man, Since 6/13/1987 - LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPION CURRENTLY WWF Tag Team Champions: Demolition, Since 3/27/1988 WWF Superstars May 28th, 1988 Duluth, MN Match #1: Jake Roberts vs. Barry Horowitz Solid 90 seconds. Jake wins with the DDT. *1/2 WWF UPDATE: -Lord Al goes over the awful Patera/Bravo feud Match #2: Bad News Brown vs. Mike Richards This is only a minute, so that blows. BNB wins with the Ghetto Blaster. * They re-air Duggan/Herc from SNME, continuing to punish the audience for no real reason. Match #3: Strike Force vs. Dave Wagner/Rick Wenslow This gets 3 minutes, so at least this delivers. Strike Force continues their awesome aggressive streak, and Santana beats Wagner with the awesome Flying Forearm. ** EVENTS CENTER: -Duggan says he's got Andre in his crosshairs. He says Andre is scratching his head and asks what kind of a man he is, and he's Hacksaw Jim Duggan, and his feet cover the ground he stands on. Well, yeah. He says he's just begun to fight, and he's coming for you, TOUGH GUY! Match #4: The Honky Tonk Man w/ Jimmy Hart vs. Brady Boone This also gets 3 minutes, but that is too long for a guy like Honky. He wins with the Shake, Rattle, and Roll. *1/4 EVENTS CENTER: -Bret Hart says he's fought for everything too, so he's not afraid of Bad News Brown. Match #5: The Junkyard Dog vs. Tim Patterson Slam. Thump. Fin. On the stage, Craig brings out Ted DiBiase and Virgil! Ted says he's not interested in the biased opinion of the WWF, and what happened was the WWF Champion being manhandled by his bodyguard, Virgil. He says he never intervened unless he had to stop Elizabeth from interfering. Craig asks what kind of a man would hide behind Elizabeth or Virgil like he did. Ted says he'll do whatever he has to do to get to Randy Savage, and if it means getting Elizabeth, he'll do it. He says she's a manager in a man's profession, and if she can't take the heat, then she should GO BACK TO THE KITCHEN! He says when the money and glory are gone, the women are gone. Or so he's heard, because he's never run out of money. And maybe there's room for a Million Dollar Woman! |

It's good as usual though and Rude wins with the Rude Awakening. *1/2 Rude makes out with a local post-match. Run-time on this file is 30 minutes instead of the usual 45 minutes, and it looks like someone cut out all the promos again. Match #2: The Ultimate Warrior vs. Steve Lombardi Under a minute, so it's not much. Warrior wins with the slam and splash. 3/4* Match #3: Ted DiBiase w/ Virgil vs. Buck Zumhoffe AGAIN 90 SECONDS. Really really frustrating practice here. This is really fun, but it's too short to be great. Ted wins with the Million Dollar Dream. *1/2 Match #4: Dino Bravo w/ Frenchy Martin vs. Frankie DeFalco This sucked again. Sidewalk Slam ends it. 1/2* Craig is on the stage, and he brings out The Rougeau Brothers! They say they are not like Dino Bravo, and they LOVE America! They say they've been having a fabulous time traveling through this country and wrestling in the fabulous United States of America. He says they've seen all the memorials and monuments like the Washington Memorial and the Lincoln Monument (AMAZING SUBTLE HEEL THING THERE), and there's only like 15-20% who still don't like them. Jacques says to prove how sincere they are, they brought a gift, and they bring out tiny US flags and they wave them. Ray then leads a USA chant. This is awesome. Match #5: Brutus Beefcake vs. Tom Stone No. Match #6: Greg Valentine w/ Jimmy Hart vs. JT Thomas Another really good 3 minute Valentine squash. More based on violence with headbutts and elbows than knee work, but he still wins with the Figure Four at the end. ** |
