PWG Threemendous III July 21st, 2012 Reseda, CA Match #1: Joey Ryan vs. Famous B Joey has been stale in PWG for like 2-3 years and I have never seen a Famous B match before, so I have no hope for this. This is not much. Famous B clearly only knows how to do generic indy spots and looks clueless any other time. He is incredibly, frustratingly, awkward when he has to do anything but kicks or flips. Decent enough finishing run. Joey wins with a Tazzmission. *3/4 Match #2: Roderick Strong vs. TJ Perkins THIS IS MORE LIKE IT. TJ carries Strong through matwork and then they trade high impact stuff. Ending got a little too no-selly, but for the most part, they spaced things out well and didn't kick out of anything ridiculous. I credit TJ with that, given how bad Strong has been with that in ROH since 2010 or so. Strong wins with the Suplex Toss Backbreaker Thing. *** Match #3: The RockNES Monsters vs. Chuck Taylor/Ryan Taylor I've missed Chuck Taylor matches, since most of them usually involve that worthless shit Gargano and have since that unit got formed in 2010. Ryan Taylor has gotten huge, so clearly he took all the steroids. Chuckie T's shameless cheating is always welcome and stands out SO much in PWG, where everyone throws a Superkick and does a flip dive. The shtick was fun, but it went on too long before they got going. I miss LTP. RNM randomly controlled AND CHUCK TAYLOR MADE A HOT TAG. WOW. Yuma got a backslide and Goodtime cheated to hold Chuck's feet down from the floor. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. **3/4 Match #4: Brian Cage vs. Eddie Edwards This could have been so much worse. It wasn't offensively bad, since they basically just did 10-15 minutes of spots, but it was still shoddy and sloppy at some points. There isn't much flow but they have some cool moves. Hilariously, Eddie Edwards overshot a Moonsault to the floor and went completely over Cage. Cage wins with the Weapon X, which is a Gory Bomb/Shellshock variant. **3/4 Match #5: Kevin Steen [c] vs. Willie Mack [PWG World Championship] So this fucking rocked. Due to the size of both men, pretty much every huge move is FUCKING INSANE. Steen works the back and has some awesome work. Willie's selling isn't great, but he clearly tries his ass off and is improving at it. And knowing PWG, it's probably his first time here actually selling an injury. He'll do better next time. Great great finishing run. Steen gets two with a Rock Bottom and yells that it works for his best friend. There is a ref bump, AND BRIAN CAGE COMES OUT TO KILL BOTH MEN! Well, okay, I guess. AND THEN WILLIE MACK KICKS OUT OF THE PACKAGE PILEDRIVER HOLY FUCK SHIT! FUCK YEAH WILLIE MACK! STEEN THEN HITS THE FUCKING PSYCHO DRIVER TO WIN! ***1/4 Match #6: B-Boy vs. Drake Younger Why? I guess this randomly cut to a CZW show. This wasn't bad, they hit hard and take stupidly great bumps. Drake has some REALLY horrible punches and should stick with forearms. Of course, being a B-Boy match and in PWG, it went on like 10 minutes longer than it needed to. They no sell Super Michinoku Drivers and Shining Wizards and shit, and B-Boy continues to be a parody of indy wrestling. Then it went on for another 5 minutes. I don't even give a fuck anymore. Match #7: Sami Callihan vs. Michael Elgin Sami again proves why he's probably the best current indy guy. Sami doesn't give a singular fuck about bullshit time killing stuff and jumps right into trading bombs. Tons of insane Elgin power spots. Good story of a monster power guy and the insane smaller buzzsaw having to slowly chop him down. AND THEY CHOP EACH OTHER IN THE FACE JESUS FUCK. Lots of great nearfalls, before Elgin hits a Lariat out of the air to a flying Sami, a Corner Powerbomb, and then a Spiral Bomb to win. ***1/2 Match #8: Super Smash Bros. [c] vs. The Young Bucks vs. Adam Cole/Kyle O'Reilly [PWG Tag Team Championship - Ladder Match] On an anniversary show, there's something to be respected about putting on a match that sums up the promotion perfectly. This is PWG. It's totally fucking insane, in both good and bad ways. There's some genuinely amazing spots happening, such as PLAYER UNO FALLAWAY SLAMMING A FAN ONTO A YOUNG BUCK. They get about 10 minutes of awesome wild brawling in before ladders come in, and then it falls apart a bit due to botching and contrived Bucks stuff. There are also spots that are legitimately breathtaking and insane. One of the Bucks hits referee Rick Knox with the ladder because they are the worst. And further summing up PWG, this goes 25 minutes when it did not need to go over 15. The Bucks climb AND RICK KNOX IS UP AND PUSHES THE LADDER OVER! FUCK YEAH RICK KNOX! RICK KNOX DOES A FUCKING FLIP DIVE! SSB then get the belts down. **3/4 |
