![]() PWG MYSTERY VORTEX DECEMBER 1ST, 2012 RESEDA, CA Match #1: The Young Bucks vs. Roderick Strong/Eddie Edwards Excalibur and Steen begin on commentary by shitting on Joey Ryan and being glad he's finally leaving. Strong and Eddie randomly mesh REALLY WELL. Better than either man's team with Davey, although still only Strong's 3rd best team behind the two major Gen Next ones. But still, that's awesome. They had sort of that power/technique thing that the Bulldogs had, which is hilarious because American Wolves was CLEARLY Davey trying to ape DK in the Bulldogs. Bucks had some fun stooging for once, but it's almost entirely about putting over this new team. Bucks take over with actual teamwork against the new team, which was a nice little bit of psychology. Who am I watching? I am then reminded it's the Bucks with their control segment that comes off more as fake "LOOK AT ME" heeling than anything real. Although the Handspring Back Rake is spectacularly douchey in that kind of a Springboard Chinlock way that one of the Special K kids used to do. Eddie taking advantage of an overly contrived set up by rolling away and tagging in Roddy was AMAZING. Strong has an old-style Roderick Strong hot tag, and Excalibur yells, "RODERICK STRONG MUST BE FROM GUATAMALA BECAUSE HE'S CLEANING HOUSE!" THEY THEN NAME EDDIE'S BACK SUPLEX/X-FACTOR THING THE REXPLEX. G.O.A.T. COMMENTARY TEAM. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much cool shit in the finishing run, and it's over before it gets TOO ridiculous, so I can justify this kind of a rating on a Bucks match. Strong and Eddie win with a brutal looking Double Stomp/Dominator thing. ***1/4 Match #2: Sami Callihan vs. Drake Younger Sami delivers a Sami Match, and as the new possible best on the indies with Generico gone (although still only #2 or #3 at the time of this event), it delivers. Within two minutes, both men have taken totally insane floor bumps and dives. GODDAMN PILEDRIVER ON THE APRON. Sami furthers his quest to become my favorite wrestler, now doing multiple German Suplexes in a row in addition to his killer Tope Suicida. This took a dive in the middle due to the INSANE first 2-3 minutes, but picked up a lot at the end, which happens more in Drake matches than Sami ones, so I blame him. SAMI DOES A FUCKING SAITO SUPLEX ON THE APRON IN PAYBACK FOR THE PILEDRIVER. WHAT IN THE LIVING FUCK. Sami kicks out of the fucking Cop Killa, and THAT IS TOO MUCH. Sami sells the FIGHTING SPIRITUUUU~ ness of the kickout, but Drake doesn't when he tries the same thing. Soon after, Sami puts on the Stretch Muffler on the ground and Drake taps. So why do that? Sami did his best to avoid being drawn into Drake's match, apart from the one retarded kick-out. *** Match #3: Super Smash Bros. [c] vs. The RockNES Monsters [PWG World Tag Team Championship] I enjoy the Monsters more as heels. Yuma is still not good enough to team with Johnny Goodtime. BRING BACK LTP. LITTLE TINY GOODTIMES WAS THE BEST UNDERDOG TEAM PWG HAS SEEN SINCE FUCKING CAPE FEAR. Goodtime now has short hair and a burly beard, which is strange. He is willing to embrace more of a crazy heel variety of tactics but Yuma felt like the Young Bucks do when they cheat, where they're very clearly more interested in doing cool shit and this is arbitrary to them. Gets ridiculous at the end. SSB win, whatevs. **1/2 Match #4: Joey Ryan vs. Scorpio Sky GOODBYE JOEY. GET THE FUCK OUT. HAVEN'T CONTRIBUTED IN ANY MEANINGFUL WAY IN 3 YEARS. They do fun Dynasty homages with the LIONCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOCK~ punch and some Lost offense. Joey tries real hard and puts on the kind of match he hasn't in PWG since the Hero feud, which is nice. It's not that he was ever truly horrible, it's just he was a shitty babyface and he'd done everything there was to do as a heel. Scorp wins with the TKO. Whatevs. **3/4 Match #5: Willie Mack vs. TJ Perkins vs. Brian Cage vs. B-Boy Fucking B-Boy ruining this. Everyone else had cool stuff, but whatevs. Lots of spots. Willie beats that worthless fuck B-Boy with the Chocolate Thunder Driver. **1/2 Match #6: El Generico vs. Rich Swann GENERICO PUTS ON ANOTHER AMAZING SPOTFEST! Generico adds a veteran/rookie story too, getting upset at Swann's arrogance and assaulting him. Really awesome kind of nasty control segment that you'd never think Generico has in him. Further proof that he might be the best in the world at this point. Swann is super crisp and has cool new stuff, and they do a totally insane finishing run that ends at exactly the right time. Generico breaks out his old double wrist-clutch lift into an Orange Crush to win. ***1/2 Match #7: Super Smash Bros vs. Roderick Strong/Eddie Edwards STRONG AND EDDIE DO IT AGAIN! Not AS good as the Bucks match, as that was a total rarity in PWG in a tag match under 15 minutes ending at the perfect time, and this is more par for the course. Little overlong, little ridiculous at the end, not enough groundwork laid before they went insane. But it's enough totally insane shit that I loved it and Roddy and Eddie continue to be great together. Strong kills Dos with the Suplex Backbreaker thing and Eddie immediately follows with a Double Stomp for the win. *** Match #8: Kevin Steen [c] vs. Adam Cole [PWG World Championship - Guerrilla Warfare Match] Awesome. First part is mostly Steen murdering Cole with normal brawling on the floor. Kudos to Cole too, as there's a really frantic desperation to his offense once he transitions to control, out of a fear for his own life should he fail to cut Steen off now. They don't get as crazy violent as previous GW matches, but it's still real good. THEN STEEN DRINKS THUMBTACKS AND SPITS THEM IN COLE'S FACE. Cole ends up getting a German Suplex into thumbtacks and then the arm-trap German for the win and the title. ![]() ***1/4 |
