PWG DDT4 2013
JANUARY 12TH, 2013
RESEDA, CA

Match #1: The Young Bucks vs. The Inner City Machine Guns [Ricochet/Rich Swann] [DDT4 Quarterfinals]

ICMG ARE THE NEW BEST FLIPPY DUDES TEAM EVER. Awesome 12 minute spotfest. There's some contrived shit, but it was like 95% amazing, so whatever. Several totally insane spots and sequences. one of the Jacksons gets their knees up to block Swann's Standing 450 Splash, and gets a cradle out of that to win. Reminded me a lot of Bucks vs. Goodtime/LTP.

Match #2: The Super Smash Bros. [c] vs. The Unbreakable Fucking Machines [Brian Cage/Michael Elgin] [DDT4 Quarterfinals - PWG World Tag Team Championship]

Another cool match. Power vs. speed dynamic was in play. ELGIN DOES A FUCKING DOUBLE ALABAMA SLAM. GOOD LORD. They do stuff and it's cool, but sort of whatever before the finishing run. Player Uno fucks his arm up bad and it becomes useless, so they clearly jump ahead to the finish from there. They kill Dos with a few things, and Elgin beats him for the belts with the Spiral Bomb!
**3/4

Match #3: Roderick Strong/Eddie Edwards vs. Adam Cole/Kyle O'Reilly [DDT4 Quarterfinals]

Far too much of an American Wolves match with the overload of thigh slapping and head kickery with contrived combinations at the end and not doing a whole lot of note before then. Stuff happened for a while, and then after a million nearfalls that should have ended the match, Cole hits Strong with the PWG Title and pins him to win. BOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
**1/4

Match #4: Kevin Steen/El Generico vs. The Briscoes [DDT4 Quarterfinals]

I'm glad this got to happen one more time before Generico went to WWE. Great storytelling too as Steen just HATES teaming with him again, and is even more enraged at Generico's gigantic ovation. AND BECAUSE IT'S RESEDA, THEY WORK IN A CRANE KICK/SWEEP THE LEG SPOT. This pairing is beautiful again. Full of hate, stiff, hot crowd, really crisp, killer finishing run, etc. Steen and Generico shove each other and get knocked together, but Generico ducks the Doomsday Device and gets a Victory Roll to win!

Match #5: The Unbreakable Fucking Machines [c] vs. The Young Bucks [DDT4 Semi-Finals - PWG World Tag team Championship]

Back to typical Bucks. This time they kill time by going to the knee of Brian Cage, but he has no interest in selling at all, so it's even more blatantly a waste of time. Finishing run is a Young Bucks finishing run. Bucks pull some cheating on Elgin to win the belts back. UGH. UGH. UGH. UGH. UGH.
**1/2

Match #6: Kevin Steen/El Generico vs. Adam Cole/Kyle O'Reilly [DDT4 Semi-Finals]

This is better by virtue of being a Steenerico tag. Also a straight sprint with two stories, which made it even better. Steen wants to kill Cole after losing the title, so there's that combined with the Steen/Generico friction. Kyle is still pretty shitty, but Steen and Generico make him fit, and Cole is forced to only do what he's good at, which is be a dick and wrestle around 10 minutes. He gets hit with the Package Piledriver and then the Brainbuster for the win.

Match #7: Willie Mack vs. B-Boy

Poor Willie. This is a B-Boy match, and goes on too long and is far too even. B-Boy also tries to murder Willie Mack.

Willie finally wins with the Chocolate Thunder Bomb.
**1/2

Match #8: Sami Callihan vs. Drake Younger [Knock Out or Tap Out Only]

This is better than last month, as the stipulation allows for no bullshit kickouts. BUT HEY! FUCKIN TOPE SUICIDAS AND PILEDRIVERS ON THE APRON AND BREAKING GLASS BEER PITCHERS ON FACES AND HURLING CHAIRS AND DEATH VALLEY DRIVERS OFF THE STAGE AND SHIT. SAMI FUCKIN CALLAHAN. Might be the most out of control PWG brawl since SD/Necro. Not so much the best, since there's so many Sami matches and Necro and Hero and SD matches since then, nor as great, but that's the best match in PWG history, so y'know. Only thing holding it back from being an all-time classic is Drake refusing to sell his legs beyond the short term after getting sandwiched between chairs and beaten about the legs, but the rest is awesome enough to be worth seeing. Drake gets some lucky elbows in after being murdered most of the match and Sami is KO'd, so Drake wins.
***1/2

Match #9: The Young Bucks [c] vs. Kevin Steen/El Generico [2013 DDT4 FINALS - PWG WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP]

:( This is easily their best match together ever as it has the crazy levels of HAAAAAAAAAATE and emotion that their previous matches, which also ruled but only as really well put together movefests, didn't have. Generico is isolated and is the best possible face in peril, which makes sense as he is the greatest babyface of this generation. The Bucks have a solid control seg, and the repeated cut-offs build very well until Steen gets the hot tag. AND MY GOD THAT FINISHING RUN. JESUS. No overkill, nothing super contrived. Just...god, fucking Steenerico delivering one last time. Generico gets MURDERED with the Superkicks over and over, and then More Bang For Your Buck, but because it's his last match and because goddamnit, FUCK THE FUCKING YOUNG BUCKS, he survives. Steen gets back in and they take Generico out again. They point and laugh at Generico and tell Steen he can leave now and he should thank them. AND STEEN STANDS UP FOR GENERICO AND SPITS AT THEM AND FIGHTS BACK! YEAH! FUCK YEAH! A ref bump happens, and yeah. BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAINBUSTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH is hit, but by the time Rick Knox runs out, the Buck can get his arm up. Lame, but it's PWG, and everything is kicked out of. They do the Package Piledriver/Brainbuster deal, but as he rolls from the Package Piledriver, the Buck grabs Generico in a cradle to win. FUCK THAT. FUCK THAT ENTIRELY. BULLSHIT FINISH. I get the Bucks winning, even if them dominating everything is so old by now, but there's so many better ways to do that without them no selling your top babyface's finish. UGH. Almost ruined something wonderful.
****

Generico gets a huge standing ovation, but he and Steen argue. Generico offers his hand, and Steen thinks about it. BUT STEEN SHAKES HIS HEAD AND WALKS AWAY. BOOOOO - NO! STEEN TURNS AROUND AND SLIDES BACK IN!

FUCK YEAH! Steen gets on the mic and says whatever he does and wherever he goes, he wants him to know that he would be nothing without El Generico, and he thanks him. The locker room comes out now, and hugs Generico and celebrates, and The Briscoes put Generico on their shoulders and everyone in the building does the "OLE!" chant.

Generico finally gets the mic as everyone in the ring is on bended knee. GENERICO SPEAKS! AMAZING! He says his English is not so good, and says everyone knows what happens, and asks if everyone has internet now. He says he does too, so they all deserve the truth. He says he's come here for a long time, and he hasn't told the truth, about him, about the mask, but he will tell them the truth now. His name is El Generico. He was born in Tijuana, Mexico. He's lived in Montreal for some time, but the truth is, he must go back to Mexico to take care of the orphans! YES! He says he has many children, and wherever he goes and whatever he does, this has been the best time in his life and yells that PWG is number one. He says if worst come to worst and the peso crash, he come back.
