ECW World Heavyweight Champion: Sabu, Since 8/9/1997 ECW Television Champion: Taz, Since 6/7/1997 - LONGEST REIGNING CURRENT CHAMPION ECW Tag Team Champions: The Gangstas, Since 7/19/1997 ECW Hardcore TV August 14th, 1997 Philadelphia, PA The ending minutes of Sabu/Funk air. Instead of the usual intro video, a hype video for Hardcore Heaven 1997 opens the show. In the back, Joey Styles says the main event of the PPV is now Sabu vs. Terry Funk vs. Shane Douglas in a three way dance. He also announces that whoever makes it to Hardcore Heaven with the Tag Titles will defend them against PG-13. AWESOME! And then it's RVD vs. Al Snow, and Joey shits on how awful the WWF is for giving him bad gimmicks. Match #1: Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Spike Dudley Awesome big/little match. Bigelow threatens to hurl him into the crowd, but fakes the crowd out. He pretty much mauls Spike, and it's fantastic. Spike gets offense in, and gets a headbutt to the dick. He takes advantage with a Victory Roll, AND HOLY SHIT HE PINS BAM BAM?! WHAT? **1/4 BUY THE UGLY AS SHIT HARDCORE HEAVEN 97 POSTER! Footage airs of Sabu's arm getting stitched up, and RVD starts wearing his new ECW World Title belt. Clips air of Shane/Funk/Sabu I to hype up the rematch on Sunday, and of last week's segment. Footage airs of the end of a Douglas/Funk match in Monaca, PA from last week's show, and Shane hits the Belly to Belly with the ref down. Sabu comes out to attack both men, and he hits the Belly to Belly on Shane! He goes up top to hit him with a Flying Legdrop too, and Terry slowly gets the cover for the win. The footage of Lawler's debut at WrestlePalooza airs again. A pretape from Lawler airs, with his head on the screen in front of famous Tommy Dreamer moments and clips from their feud. He says he said he was ECW, exposing crappy wrestler, and he's going to expose Tommy Dreamer for the barefaced liar that he is. He says nobody challenges The King, and says he came to his bingo hall twice and exposed him for the ballless wonder that he is, and he challenges him at Hardcore Heaven. He says this name is stupid but it's appropriate, but when it's the two of them alone, he'll send Tommy to heaven and end this for good. Clips then air of Cornette's debut on 6/28. Taz's promo from last week airs again. In a pretape, Taz cuts a promo. He says this Sunday night, a violent act will be committed by a violent man, and that's him. He doesn't need barbed wire or chairs or tables to be violent. He doesn't need a weapon, his hands are his weapon, and the Tazmission will be hooked on his neck. Oxygen deprivation, that's fate, because he's going to choke him out. BEAT HIM IF YOU CAN. SURVIVE IF HE LETS YOU. Clips air of The Dudley Boyz & Big Dick vs. Axl, Balls, AND HACK MYERS from 8/9 air. Hack is beat with the 3D. SHAH. To end the show, the footage of the cage match stuff from Heatwave airs. |

ECW World Heavyweight Champion: Sabu, Since 8/9/1997 ECW Television Champion: Taz, Since 6/7/1997 - LONGEST REIGNING CURRENT CHAMPION ECW Tag Team Champions: The Gangstas, Since 7/19/1997 ![]() ECW HARDCORE HEAVEN 1997 AUGUST 17TH, 1997 FORT LAUDERDALE, FL In the ring, Joey Styles introduces the show. The crowd boos all three men in the main event, and Rick Rude comes out! Joey recaps that he turned his back on ECW and hired himself out to some male boytoy dancer from another organization, and he can have the mic, but this isn't his interview. Joey leaves and Rude says what he'd like right now is for all you fat, out of shape, Lauderdale losers give it up for the next ECW Television Champion, Chris Candido! Tod Gordon comes out with security and he says Rude turned down a lucrative (lol) two year announcing contract to be a gun for hire, and he can't judge him for what he does outside of ECW, but he's not a manager, and he bars him from ringside! He has security escort Rude from ringside. ![]() Match #1: Taz [c] vs. Chris Candido [ECW Television Championship] Fun opener, but felt like it was missing something. They just did offense to each other for 10 minutes, and they have some good offense, but it needed more focus than Candido sort of working on the neck because his offense is naturally head and neck-based. The crowd wasn't even half as hot as the Arena crowd's been lately either, so that kinda hurt it too. But some cool stuff, and Candido signals for the end as Taz is up top, but Taz does the same behind him, and jumps down into the Tazmission for the win. **3/4 In the back, Joey announces that the next PPV is ECW November to Remember 1997 on 11/30 in "Pittsburgh". He introduces clips of the ICP in the ring before the show, and Sabu and RVD beat the shit out of them to the biggest cheers so far. Awesome. The Sandman then tried to save, but also got laid out. Match #2: Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Spike Dudley Joey says that BBB demanded this rematch. This might be the best squash ever, as Spike dies something like 3 or 4 times here. He eats a gigantic Powerbomb, then a press slam into the post, then the famous press slam into the 3rd or 4th row, and finally he hits a gross Piledriver and the Moonsault for the win. **3/4 Clips air of The Sandman being taken away in an ambulance. Match #3: Rob Van Dam w/ Bill Alfonso vs. Al Snow This was another really good RVD showcase. I wouldn't call it great exactly, like RVD/Lance at Barely Legal was, because this has some flubs in the first half and because Al Snow's stuff isn't nearly as crisp, smooth, or outright impressive as RVD's, so he gets totally blown away, and also struggled to fill the time he get to do stuff. RVD hits the Van Daminator for the win. **1/2 They have a helicopter chasing the ambulance, and Lance Wright is in a helicopter talking about it. The lighting on the camera filming Lance in the helicopter makes it look like he has a flashlight under his chin and is telling ghost stories. In the back, Joey Styles says he's finding out that The Sandman is trying to commandeer the ambulance. In the back, Jerry Lawler cuts a promo. He says he just got off the phone with Vince McMahon and he said this has to be the darkest day in his entire career to be here in this dump with all these ECW morons. Vince said he admired his guts to go into the mouth of the lion's den alone, and he told Vince that he's not by himself, because all the WWF superstars are with him in spirit. Last night, The Undertaker said he'd like to see Tommy Dreamer rest in peace, and gave him permission to use the Tombstone Piledriver. Even Bret Hart told him that he was right, and he'd like the honor of Lawler finishing off Tommy Dreamer with the Sharpshooter! Earlier today, Stone Cold called him and said he wanted him to open up a can of whoop ass on Tommy Dreamer, and he may just do that. The Dudley Boyz, Joel Gertner, Big Dick, and Sign Guy Dudley are in the ring and they also have Jenna Jameson in the ring with them. Joel says if there's one thing more precious than PPV, it's The Quintessential Studmuffin, Joel "Squeeze My Lemon Until the Juice Runs Down My Leg" Gertner! He introduces Jenna Jameson, and then the entire clan. Big Dick Dudley has 25 inch arms and a 40 inch coc....wrists. Also, "YOUR REFEREE IS....BALD." He officially announces the Dudley Boyz as the new ECW Tag Team Champions. Match #4: The Dudley Boyz [c] w/ Everyone Awesome vs. PG-13 [ECW Tag Team Championship] PG-13 are exactly the kind of disgusting inbred rednecks that Florida would LOVE, and it weirdly works out that way. Also, you could totally bring PG-13 back doing the same thing and dressed the same, and it would work as a weird hipster comedy gimmick. PG-13 are not good babyfaces though for all the reasons they're great heels (ridiculous outfits and looks, hateable faces, offense consisting of mostly punches and cheating, comedy spots as offense), so this is awkward. Bubba pins Wolfie D after the 3D. **1/4 At the announce position, Joey Styles confirms that The Sandman is driving around South Florida in a stolen ambulance, and considering some of the recent news stories that have come out of Florida, this isn't that out of the norm. Lance Wright says he's lost. Great. Coming back, Jerry Lawler is in the ring and on the mic. He repeats his promo in the back about WWF guys giving him their moves for the night and invites PPV fans to watch a real pay-per-view on September 7th as the WWF presents Ground Zero, and being fair, Shawn/Taker is probably better than anything on this show. Match #5: Jerry Lawler vs. Tommy Dreamer w/ Beulah This was upsetting and also great. This is 18 minutes and the first 14-15 minutes are the best thing on this show. Really fantastic and passionate brawl. Tommy busts King open and takes him around the building and Lawler's selling is fantastic. Lawler comes back and chokes Tommy with a leather belt in revenge, and goes nuts with Lawler punches and taunts the crowd. Just a fantastic fight. Dreamer fights back and pulls both of his straps down and basically does a Lawler comeback, just without the crowd going insane with the strap cue. Lawler even tries to pull his own strap down and no-sell, but he does a Flair flop right after. Dreamer has it about won...and then things break down. They do the LIGHTS GO OUT~ thing three times, even though the first one with Rude hitting Tommy with a trash can wasn't a huge shocker. The second one is Jake Roberts, and he both DDTs Tommy and clotheslines Lawler. Tommy kicks out, and Jake looks happy as he leaves. Wat. Third one is Sunny with hairspray, and that was actually cool. Beulah fights her and Lawler then tries to use Beulah as a shield, but she gets a mule kick to the dick, and Tommy gets a ball claw in revenge! Tommy then hits the DDT for the win. This was almost ruined by ECW bullshit, but I liked the first 85% of this enough go three stars. *** The Sandman has now made it to the building. Clips air of Sabu/Funk/Douglas I. I figure if Biggie thinks this is overrated and doesn't age well, I'll think it's a piece of shit if I ever watch it. Match #6: Sabu [c] vs. Terry Funk vs. Shane Douglas [ECW World Heavyweight Championship - Three Way Dance] Francine and Fonzie are on the floor. This is alright. I was expecting a mess, but it was just kind of a match. They clearly wanted this big epic thing, but it just didn't work out at all, and I can't even point to any performance issues or anything, but it just wasn't clicking at all. No attempt at storytelling or anything, just some stuff happening for a while. Tod Gordon got involved to stop Fonzie, but ate a Flying Legdrop through a table, and then The Sandman ran out and beat up Sabu with a ladder. Police dragged him out, and Sabu got pinned by both guys to be eliminated. Police struggle with Sandman on the entrance way, AND SABU DIVES ONTO ALL OF THEM! YEAH! They then go into overdrive trying to make Shane/Funk an epic. Everyone comes out to watch around the ring and Shane's stupid Belly to Belly is kicked out of, which is apparently a big deal despite being the weakest looking big finisher in ECW. Dory Funk Jr. comes out to throw his shitty European Uppercuts, and Shane does a hilarious flip bump on one. There's a pretty shitty table bump off the apron, and Funk kicks out of the Belly to Belly AGAIN. It feels like every trick they try to make this epic only makes it less that way. A third Belly to Belly ends that nice ECW World Title streak from April 1995 until now. God damnit. **1/2 Shane celebrates and whips Terry with the belt now, AND THE DUDLEY BOYZ AND JOEL GERTNER COME OUT! YEAH! KILL HIM. Joel proposes a new better Triple Threat, nay, a Triple Crown, so they can have all the gold. Candido and Bigelow come out and the Triple Threat and Dudleys fight. Why? All the locker room comes out and fights to end the show, and the Triple Threat leaves. Big Dick hits everyone with Chokeslams to end the show. Great. This was just a HUGE step back after Barely Legal, which was the best ECW show ever and before Canadian Stampede, was the PPV of the year from any company. |

ECW World Heavyweight Champion: Shane Douglas, Since 8/17/1997 ECW Television Champion: Taz, Since 6/7/1997 - LONGEST REIGNING CURRENT CHAMPION ECW Tag Team Champions: The Dudley Boyz, Since 8/17/1997 ECW Hardcore TV August 23rd, 1997 Philadelphia, PA From what I can gather, the show switched dates again. "This is Extreme" is used for the opening video for the first time this week. Farewell, NINETEEN SIXTY FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE YEAH. OW. Match #1: Tommy Dreamer vs. Rob Van Dam Beulah and Fonzie are at ringside. This was an awesome sprint. RVD does his stuff, and it's all really great. He then dies on bumps when Tommy makes a comeback. They use weapon spots and have some cool revenge stuff from Tommy to Van Dam. Fonzie gets in, but Beulah takes him out. Sabu then comes out with a trash can, but Tommy takes it from him and hits him. RVD hits a garbage can Van Daminator though and hits a Corkscrew Legdrop with Tommy under it for the win. *** Sabu and RVD keep it up, but then The Triple Threat comes out to sort of save, but mostly attack Sabu and Van Dam, since this match is from August 9th and was building to the PPV main event. The locker room empties and everyone fights again. We're kind of overusing this now, although not to the extent of the SHOW. CLOSING. BRAWL. of TNA. The Dudley Boyz clear out, and Bobby Duncum Jr. is there for some reason, but he dies. Awesome. Tommy also eats a Chokeslam from Big Dick, and Balls and Axl come out now! They fight them for a while, AND THEN "NATURAL BORN KILLAZ" HITS AND NEW JACK AND THE ELIMINATORS COME OUT TO CLEAN HOUSE! YEAH! Balls and Axl help them and The Dudley Boyz get laid out. New Jack obliterates Gertner with a chair shot and Kronus hits him with the 450 Splash. In the back, Jenna Jameson says nothing is as extreme as ECW. In a pretape, Taz cuts a promo. He says it amazes him that sometimes when he talks, not everyone has learned to listen. Chris Candido for example, he didn't get it. He says he told him what was going to happen, and he choked him out like he promised. He says his best wasn't enough, and anytime he wants a rematch, he's got it because nothing changes. He gets hooked and he taps out. He says he's not a puppet and he does his job and goes home, and he doesn't do what people want him to do. BEAT HIM IF YOU CAN, SURVIVE IF HE LETS YOU. A recap airs of The Sandman's night and the ECW Title match at Hamcore Heaven. An updated history of the ECW Title video airs. Clips air from Spike/BBB last week. A recap airs of Tommy/Lawler. In the back, Tommy Dreamer says he was in a war for two and a half years, and he wasn't about to let it happen again, so he made sure he ended this one in one match. He says he protected the revolution, and after two and a half years, he can put his pain to rest, and this is the end. "The End" by the Doors plays over clips of WWF guys beating him up over the summer. Fuck The Doors. |

ECW World Heavyweight Champion: Shane Douglas, Since 8/17/1997 ECW Television Champion: Taz, Since 6/7/1997 - LONGEST REIGNING CURRENT CHAMPION ECW Tag Team Champions: The Dudley Boyz, Since 8/17/1997 ECW Hardcore TV August 30th, 1997 Queens, NY In the ring, Joey Styles opens the show and Rick Rude comes out to interrupt him. They do the same thing as the PPV, and Styles leaves. Rude says he's a smart kid and looks at the crowd and says now he understands the phrase "from the penthouse to the shithouse". He says he was paid to do a job, or more accurately, he was laid to do a job, and now it's time to get the job done, and asks all you fat, out of shape, Queens...well, queens...to shut their holes and open their eyes while he brings out Shane and Francine. Francine is attractive to me for the first time in a year, so that's cool. He asks for his fucking music to be cut. My all time ECW dream match now is Shane Douglas vs. Sound Guy. Shane says he doesn't need Rude to protect him like some boys, but he needs Rude to push him to be the best ECW Champion ever, and he's asked Rude to get him an opponent. Rude says protection or inspiration, you pay the premium to get the premium, in cash or in gash. He says he's got to push Shane to the limit every day, so he's picked this guy to give him a good workout, and he's a tough kid, and he brings out Al Snow! Match #1: Shane Douglas [c] w/ Francine & Rick Rude vs. Al Snow [ECW World Heavyweight Championship] This was good. Not the kind of a match you'd want as a PPV main event or anything, but as a TV match, it's solid. Shane tries a Huracanrana, but it winds up looking like Al Snow hits him with a Bridging Powerbomb. This went on too long, despite a solid control seg. There's nobody who buys into an upset win here, especially a week or two after the title win. Joey still doesn't know what a Tiger Bomb is. Al kicks out of the Belly to Belly, so I guess he's on Terry Funk's level now. Shane hits a second one to win. **1/2 Lance Wright is back doing Hype Central. Great. Match #2: Taz [c] vs. Pablo Marquez [ECW Television Championship] Taz's theme is randomly spliced in with lyrics from "No Sleep Til Brooklyn" tonight, so that rules. This is your textbook awesome Taz squash. Head drops and Tazmission. *3/4 BUY A 70S CD COMPILATION! Match #3: Tommy Dreamer vs. Rob Van Dam Both seconds are on the floor again. This was basically the same match as last week with a different ending. I loved that match, so I also liked this. Here, Tommy goes after Fonzie when Beulah gets him, and it changes from there. Tommy hits a Frog Splash and Van Daminator of his own, sorta, this time, and blocks RVD's splits counter on the top rope in the corner with a dick kick and sweet Elevated DDT to win. **3/4 Sabu comes out and he and RVD beat down Tommy post-match. Fonzie holds Beulah and makes her watch, and they hold up a WWF banner. Awesome. AND THEY DRAPE IT OVER TOMMY TO END THE SHOW. |

ECW World Heavyweight Champion: Shane Douglas, Since 8/17/1997 ECW Television Champion: Taz, Since 6/7/1997 - LONGEST REIGNING CURRENT CHAMPION ECW Tag Team Champions: The Dudley Boyz, Since 8/17/1997 ECW Hardcore TV September 6th, 1997 Queens, NY All the flag stuff from the end of last week opens the show. On the Hardcore Hotline tease, it's revealed for the first time that The Eliminators have split. Paul doesn't say which one left, but by the clips they show over his voice, it's obvious that Saturn is the one who left ECW to go to WCW, and Kronus is the one who stayed. Oh well. In HYPE CENTRAL~, Lance Wright says he's going to interview Tommy Dreamer the WRIGHT way tonight. Because he's Lance Wright, and you're wrong. No, he didn't actually say that. I wish. Tommy comes on and is mad, so Wright bails. He says Sabu and Van Dam are dead the next time he sees them. Match #1: Spike Dudley/Chris Chetti vs. Little Guido/Tracy Smothers w/ Tommy Rich This was fun, but nothing special. Chetti is basically useless, but Spike vs. Guido was AWESOME. Chetti beats Smothers with a roll up after Rich's interference fails. **1/4 In the back, Joey Styles keeps fucking talking about the flag thing. Chris Candido comes on and says he had nothing to do with it just because he lives with the most downloaded person in the WWF. He then goes overboard and says he loves the ECW and he's hardcore. He then takes a phone call from JR and talks about the Sooners, and hangs up and yells about the Triple Threat. ECW ARENA RETURN - SEPTEMBER 20TH: -THE SANDMAN VS. SABU Match #2: Sabu vs. Bobby Duncum Jr. NO, COME ON. Sabu has Fonzie and RVD, and Duncum is managed by Jason. Duncum is awful, but this is basically just a Sabu showcase, and it's fine for that. RVD comes in to attack for the DQ, because that happens on a whim now. *1/2 Jason tries to save, but RVD kicks him down. RVD puts Duncum on a table, and Sabu hits a Triple Jump Splash through it. Tommy Dreamer runs out to attack them both on the floor. Tommy beats up Sabu in the ring for way too long, and then Sabu starts beating him up. This is a good match that isn't a match. It finally ends when Tommy hits a Flying Splash off the top onto Sabu and through a table in the ring. RVD then magically reappears to attack Tommy, and they beat him down. Beulah gets in, and Sabu clotheslines him. The Sandman comes out to save, but Sabu blocks the cane with a chair, and RVD hits the Van Daminator! They now bury Tommy, Beulah, and The Sandman under the WWF banner. Taz comes out and they bail, but Taz gets Fonzie by the throat as the show ends. |

ECW World Heavyweight Champion: Shane Douglas, Since 8/17/1997 ECW Television Champion: Taz, Since 6/7/1997 - LONGEST REIGNING CURRENT CHAMPION ECW Tag Team Champions: The Dudley Boyz, Since 8/17/1997 ECW Hardcore TV September 13th, 1997 Waltham, MA Clips air from the Queens show of Lance Wright trying to interview Taz after the ending of last week. Taz calls Sabu and RVD out and Wright insists on asking questions and complains about his assignments and says he used to work for the WWF, so Taz ends up choking him out. In the back, Joey says Rude has another handpicked challenge for Shane Douglas and Joel Gertner is on location from Dudleyville, and says they will finally have Sabu/The Sandman soon. Not sure if he means tonight, or if he's hyping the ECW Arena show on 9/20. Match #1: John Kronus vs. Tracy Smothers w/ The FBI This was disappointing. They never really got their shit together and they just did stuff for 6 minutes. Not having Saturn there makes Kronus' awkward highspots stand out better. He wins with the 450 Splash. *3/4 In a pretape, Joel Gertner is in Dudleyville with The Dudley Boyz. Gertner congratulates Kronus and challenges him to go up against D...no, he's a tag team wrestler! OR Bu...nope, he's a tag team specialist too! He challenges Kronus to fight Big Dick Dudley, and he's heard that Kronus often thinks he can beat Big Dick. He says Kronus fancies himself a master of beating Big Dick, and if he beats him, they might even let him choose a new partner to fight The Dudley Boyz. Rick Rude comes out before the title match, and he introduces this latest handpicked opponent as Axl Rotten! Match #2: Shane Douglas [c] w/ Francine & Rick Rude vs. Axl Rotten [ECW World Heavyweight Championship] This is pretty bad. Axl tries to do brawling, but Shane's trying to do his fake Flair routine and they're having two different matches and it doesn't mesh at all. Same general problems as Shane/Balls, but this was a little better. This goes on way longer though, something like 15 minutes, and it's this hilariously bad failed epic. Shane wins with the Belly to Belly. *1/2 The Sandman comes out for the match with Sabu, BUT SABU JUMPS OFF THE SMALL STAGE BEHIND HIM AND BREAKS A GLASS BOTTLE ON THE BACK OF HIS HEAD! WHOA! Sandman is busted open and Sabu puts him on a table. He goes for a Hilo from the ring, BUT TOMMY DREAMER COMES OUT TO PULL SANDMAN OFF THE TABLE AND SABU GOES THROUGH! Both men are out and Tommy waves people out to help Sandman and Sabu. Oh, nope. Tommy rolls Sabu in and keeps attacking him before RVD comes out to save! They fight for a few minutes and it's pretty good. Sabu gets back up, and they lay out Tommy with chair stuff. They hold up the WWF banner, and Taz comes out! He fights them, but they beat Taz down in a 2 on 1, but Tommy is back up, and they run off Sabu and Rob Van Dam. Tommy gets on the mic and says he knows Taz stands alone, but any time he needs a favor, he's got it, and he's got his back. Taz says he doesn't need anybody to watch his back, and he's not about all this bullshit. He says Tommy owes him, and he wants him to challenge him for the TV Title so they can show everyone what an extreme match is about. ADDED TO 9/20 IN THE ECW ARENA: -TOMMY & BEULAH VS. RVD & FONZIE In a pretape, Paul Heyman says Tod is no longer the ECW Commissioner and is gone and they intend to carry on his vision of ECW. ![]() |

ECW World Heavyweight Champion: Shane Douglas, Since 8/17/1997 ECW Television Champion: Taz, Since 6/7/1997 - LONGEST REIGNING CURRENT CHAMPION ECW Tag Team Champions: The Dudley Boyz, Since 8/17/1997 ECW Hardcore TV September 20th, 1997 Waltham, MA In a pretape, Shane Douglas and Francine talk. Shane says he has the belt and the woman so hot that Rick Rude himself does his dirty work in exchange for one night with her, and it means he controls wrestling's future. So this is your fault? He says that makes him the Franchise. I hate you. Clips air of Terry Funk's retirement ceremony before his "final" match, where the ECW locker room presented him with a lifetime achievement belt. In the ring, Joel "The Skinless Banana in Your Tropical Fruit Salad of Love" Gertner introduces Big Dick for the match. YOUR REFEREE IS...a dirty old man who made a pass at him backstage. A super clipjob airs of Big Dick/Kronus, and Kronus wins with a 450 Splash to get a title shot. The Dudleys attack him after the match AND NEW JACK COMES OUT! Joey claims it's the most violent half of the most violent tag team in ECW history and the better half of the best tag team in the world, which HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA wow, no. Nobody could have believed that, right? I mean, it's a cool angle, but c'mon. In the back, Joey announces The Dudley Boyz vs. Kronus & New Jack for the Tag Titles in the ECW Arena! Match #2: Chris Candido w/ Francine & Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Jerry Lynn This is a match. Lynn tries real hard and Candido guides him, but he's just a slightly above average wrestler. Everything he does is good, but nothing really stands out at all. The crowd keeps "WOOO"ing for some reason. They did moves for 11 minutes and Candido won with a Butterfly Superplex. **1/2 In a pretape, Fonzie, RVD, and Sabu cut a promo. Fonzie yells that he hates The Sandman and that they're the kings. Sabu growls and RVD calms Fonzie down. He says he's got to take care of himself or he'll blow his heart out. RVD then says Sabu has fans too, but everyone's excited for the match they have, and Fonzie blows the whistle over him and doesn't want to talk about it. THE GREAT SASUKE IS COMING BACK TO ECW! YEAH! Match #3: Taz [c] vs. Tommy Dreamer w/ Beulah [ECW Television Championship] They do some stuff for 5 minutes, and it's generally pretty solid. A table gets put up in the corner, but then Rob Van Dam and Sabu run out and they attack both guys. ** They beat them down and Alfonso brings in the WWF flag. The Sandman runs out to save, but RVD lays him out with a Spinning Heel Kick, but Taz and Tommy fight back. Taz throws Sabu out, and Tommy hits RVD with the Spicolli Driver! |

ECW World Heavyweight Champion: Shane Douglas, Since 8/17/1997 ECW Television Champion: Taz, Since 6/7/1997 - LONGEST REIGNING CURRENT CHAMPION ECW Tag Team Champions: The Dudley Boyz, Since 8/17/1997 ![]() ECW As Good As It Gets September 20th, 1997 Philadelphia, PA Match #1: Axl Rotten/Balls Mahoney vs. Little Guido/Tracy Smothers w/ Tommy Rich Fun opener. FBI does their thing, and it's as much fun as always. Balls has a decent hot tag, and he hits Guido with the Nutcracker Suite for the pin, but Tommy Rich puts his ankle on the ropes. Balls and Axl celebrate, but Tommy Rich points it out. Guido then sneaks in a roll up on Balls to steal the win! ** Balls wants to hit the referee with a chair, and people break it up. The referee gets on the mic and says he's Jeff Jones and he's the best referee in the world and the man in charge. Balls then lays out Jeff Jones with a chair shot, and he and Axl celebrates. In the ring, Joey Styles introduces the show, and Jason comes out! YEAH! He says he's found a way to contribute to ECW and to show his appreciation for these wonderful fans, he has a superb athlete to introduce to everyone in ECW, his newest find! PJ Walker comes out and Jason says that is not PJ Walker or any Man o' War. Jason says he's just incredible, and Joey asks his name. No, he's Justin Credible. He takes the mic and says he's just incredible every time he steps in the damn ring. Match #2: Jerry Lynn vs. Justin Credible w/ Jason They both try really hard here in their ECW Arena debuts, I'll say that much. Lynn is a little bit better, but Credible surprises me with a really acceptable control segment. The crowd chants "BORING" when they are working a normal and perfectly fine fucking pro wrestling match because ECW fans are horrible. They have a decent late 90s moves finishing run, and Justin hits That's Incredible, and then kind of a shitty Swinging DDT to win. **1/2 Match #3: Chris Candido vs. Lance Storm Awesome spotfest. They laid groundwork first with actual wrestling and advanced the match gradually to the frantic insanity of the final moments. Lance's forearms still aren't great, but all his other spots were really well done and Candido covered up for him and guided him really really well. Some big nearfalls, and Candido pulls out the win with the Blonde Bombshell. Big breakout match for Lance, I'm assuming. *** Match #4: Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Spike Dudley This is another awesome 5-6 minute match between these two, although not as insanely violent as the PPV match. Spike dies on everything and this is the match with the famous moment where Bam Bam press slams Spike into the crowd, but he crowd surfs back. After that, Bam Bam slaughters him with a Splash off the top. **1/2 Bam Bam throws him into the crowd and it happens again. Shane Douglas and Francine come out, and Shane gets on the mic. He says he told everyone so and says they can thank him for putting a 53 year old piece of shit out to pasture. They cheer, and he rightfully calls them a bunch of fucking turncoats. AND THEY CHEER. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE?! He says Rick Rude is busy in London and he's spending the weekend with the WWF. He says he doesn't care for his choice of companies, but it's better than Philadelphia, and says they're bigger turncoats than Shawn Michaels. He says he hears Rude's been training with three months for someone, AND FURNAS AND LAFON COME OUT! YEAH! They ask which one he wants, even though only Lafon is in ring gear. He challenges Furnas instead since he's been off with shoulder injury. Furnas says they found the biggest pussy in the business, AND HE'S NOT TALKING ABOUT FRANCINE. YEAH! Shane then accepts to fight Lafon. Match #5: Shane Douglas [c] vs. Phil LaFon [ECW World Heavyweight Championship] Francine and Furnas are on the floor. This is really good. Lafon isn't as good as he was a year ago, coming off dumbing himself down for a year, but that's to be expected. The middle kind of kills it as it's really blatant time killing stuff, but the comeback is good. Then there's way too much interference because it's ECW. Candido and Bigelow get involved and Furnas runs them off. Candido clips Lafon's leg, and Shane outs on the Spinning Toe hold. Lafon gets a really bad looking cradle out of it, but Shane switches into a Jackknife Pin to win. **3/4 Bigelow and Furnas have to be held apart post-match. The Pitbulls wheel Lance Wright down to ringside for some reason, and he has a neck brace on. #1 gets the mic and tells them all to shut the fuck up, so I guess they're heels now. Okay. They say they got set up, and I have no idea what this is about. Biggie, help. He says he broke his neck for them and the only people who cared were his mom and Lance Wright. Lance says his mom cared too ahahaha. He says last week, the three of them were hanging out with Vince McMahon and he's gonna pay them enough money so they can move to Dallas, TX where winners live. He says this company is full of paper champion, and he calls out Taz to face #2. He keeps fucking talking, and Taz comes out and chokes them out. WHATEVER. Taz then puts Wright through a table with a T-Bone Suplex. Taz fights fans, so cops come out. He puts a cop in a Fujiwara Armbar, and this is totally legit. Everyone pulls him off, and I have no idea why this happened. After Taz is gone, Sabu clears the ring for the next match. Match #6: The Sandman vs. Sabu w/ Bill Alfonso Sandman seems REALLY out of it early on, but it picks up after a few minutes. This isn't really a match up that meshes well, since it's this weird cross between a Sandman match and a Sabu match. They're very similar, but have important differences. Sabu matches are crazy and chaotic, but there's always this escalation to them that allows a certain coherency. Sandman matches are chaotic in the way that I don't truly believe Sandman has planned things out beyond a few big spots. Anyways, it becomes more of a Sandman match and Sabu doesn't seem to adjust too well. BUT NEVERMIND ALL OF THAT, BECAUSE SABU THROWS A FUCKING FIREBALL AND THAT ENDS THE MATCH BECAUSE IT'S A FUCKING FIREBALL. AWESOME. **1/4 Medics and people come out to help Sandman to the back. The fans are finally now booing Sabu instead of just RVD or Fonzie, so it worked. Fonzie has to help Sabu up, since the fireball was this last ditch effort and he's basically out. Before the mixed tag, RVD gets on the mic. He says not only is this match the most ridiculous thing he's been booked in in his entire fucking career, but he's embarrassed to even be here. RVD says he's got Dreamer and if Fonzie wants a piece of that whore, he can wait in line with the rest of the boys after the show, or he can take what he needs out of her ass out here tonight. Fonzie is terrified, but they high five. Match #7: Rob Van Dam/Bill Alfonso vs. Tommy Dreamer/Beulah McGillicutty Tommy is CLEARLY hurt, but he and RVD start off with a good brawl. Referee Jeff Jones tries to not allow chair shots, but he gets taken out. Sabu comes out and he and RVD take out Tommy. They put him on a table, and they hit the Event Omega through the table! They never had the timing on that that the Hardys did, so Tommy looks like he dies. RVD gets on the mic and says he doesn't need this match because he's a fucking hot commodity, and tells Fonzie to get a piece of that whore. RVD and Sabu leave, and this becomes Fonzie vs. Beulah, as Tommy is also taken away. It's not very good, but it's better than it ever should have been. Fonzie bleeds a ton and takes some awesome bumps, and Beulah is surprisingly game. She wins with a Huracanrana. **1/4 Before the main event, it is Dudley Mic Time. D-Von says if he's said it once, he's said a billion times, these people are the most no-good, inbred, illiterate pieces of shit he's ever seen. He calls them the best tag team in the world today because they destroyed The Eliminators and The Gangstas. The crowd gives a nice "FUUUUUUUUUUUCK YOU" chant. Bubba says if they don't shut the fuck up, the Dudleys will never come back to Philadelphia. They sing goodbye and D-Von says it is now time for Brother Gertner to TESTIFY. Joel Gertner gets on the mic and says as the Dallas Cowboys proved on Monday night, sometimes it's okay to win by one, and reveals a Cowboys jersey under his coat. The crowd chants "FUCK YOU" again, so D-Von signals out a lady and says he wouldn't even fuck them with Gertner's dick, and that pussy probably stinks anyways. Bubba asks if he's saying she has a smelly pussy, and D-Von says the bitch is a ho. The Governor of the State of Ecstasy, The Quintessential Studmuffin, and a Damn Handsome Man, Joel "Hotter Than a 15 Year Old Girl in a Field Hockey Skirt" Gertner says tag teams come and tag teams go and says The Pitbulls can't say a great 1997 because they haven't been around for most of 1997, because, maybe, they kinda lost their juice. He says The Gangstas are no more, The Eliminators are gone, and there's a team people like now that comes out to do strange things with metal chairs, but if they knew what they did to each other with those chairs, they wouldn't clap quite so loudly. There is a tag team that could not find Southern Italy on a map of Italy and thinks Sicily is a girl they knew in high school. He says they are not only the best tag team in ECW, but they are the ONLY tag team in the ECW horizons. He says until ECW can find reliable and real opposition, there's two things people can do, and that's get used to it now or get disappointed in 10 minutes on the way out of the building. He then does the amazing actual intros. This went on for like 15 minutes and was probably a better use of time than the match going this long. Match #8: The Dudley Boyz [c] w/ Joel Gertner, Big Dick Dudley, & Sign Guy Dudley vs. New Jack/John Kronus [ECW Tag Team Championship] Really fun 5 minute brawl. Kronus bleeds, the Dudleys work hard, New Jack has his stage dive, etc. Big Dick gets taken out with a guitar shot, and then Kronus beats D-Von with the 450 Splash to win the titles! **1/4 |

ECW World Heavyweight Champion: Shane Douglas, Since 8/17/1997 ECW Television Champion: Taz, Since 6/7/1997 - LONGEST REIGNING CURRENT CHAMPION ECW Tag Team Champions: The Gangstanators, Since 9/20/1997 ECW Fan Cam October 17th, 1997 Downington, PA Match #1: Balls Mahoney/Axl Rotten vs. Little Guido/Tracy Smothers w/ Tommy Rich The faces are wearing ICP shirts, so they're heels now. This is a super house show version of Pitbulls/FBI, except with shittier power stuff and the faces not really giving a fuck. Once the FBI took over though, it was a lot of fun since Guido and Tracy are trying hard. Balls hits Guido with the Nutcracker Suite to win. *3/4 Match #2: Justin Credible w/ Jason vs. Paul Diamond w/ Chastity I wish it was Pat Tanaka, but the other half of The Orient Express will have to do. Chastity interferes more than Jason and it means Credible is working as face almost. Then he also does heel stuff. God damnit. They go for like 10 minutes before Phen finally fucking wins with That's Incredible. *1/2 Match #3: The Can-Am Express vs. Spike Dudley/Mikey Whipwreck Can-Ams get "Sad! But True" as entrance music, because ECW. This was a great showcase for the Can-Ams, but it's disappointing that that's all it was, but they refuse to give Mikey ANYTHING to work with after early 1996 apparently, so that's all this was. Mikey's easily the best guy in this in terms of offense, since everything is super crisp and smooth. Spike and Mikey do a DOUBLE BABYFACE FLYING FOREARM, so they're my new favorites. Spike gets a hot tag, but quickly gets beat with a Flying Hart Attack. **3/4 Match #4: Taz [c] vs. Danny Morrison [ECW Television Championship] SQUAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASH. Tazmission kills the kid. *3/4 Match #5: The Great Sasuke vs. Lance Storm Oh hey, what's up? This is fucking great. They do lots of matwork and it's all pretty great. The crowd chants "BORING". Shut the fuck up and go jerk off to Public Enemy and Ian/Axl matches. Jesus christ, ECW fans are the absolute worst. They do a great Sasuke dive, and some moves, and it ends SUPER abruptly on a Bridging German Suplex from Sasuke. Sasuke doesn't seem happy about that, so there might be more here. Whatever, still a great 9 minutes. *** Match #6: Jason vs. The Blue Meanie w/ Nova & Thomas Rodman Jason challenges Meanie to a pose down. They pose, and when Jason turns around, Meanie grabs his taint in a claw and gets a schoolboy to win. Mouthfucking a mermaid while eating fruit roll ups Match #7: Sabu/Rob Van Dam vs. Shane Douglas/Chris Candido Fonzie and Francine are both on the floor. This was slow starting but after the first 3 or so minutes, the next 11 minutes of this 14 minute match were AMAZING. Totally out of fucking control. Insane bumps from everyone, the craziest of which was RVD kicking Shane off the top and him falling right to the floor on his back. It's hard to put into words exactly because "frantic" doesn't do it justice, but it's a lot like that crazy stretch during the first RVD/Sabu vs. Eliminators match. Everyone's throwing shit and moving a million miles a minute and it comes off like a real insane fight. The best instance of this was Candido diving out to RVD, and Sabu throwing a chair at him from the ring in mid-air, so he takes out RVD and then gets blindsides with a chair to the back of the head after landing. Shane eventually puts down Sabu with the Side Belly to Belly. ***1/2 IT'S NOW DUDLEY MIC TIME! D-Von says to shut the fuck up and says they're low lives and without any further ado -- and he stops to tell some fat bitch to sit down and shut the fuck up -- and they keep talking. Bubba threatens to never come back, so they sing goodbye. D-Von says it is now time for Brother Gertner to TESTIFY. Joel says hello to all the rowdy inebriates, because it is he, Joel "Something I Cannot Make Out" Gertner, and says they would like an Australian Rules NCAA Rules Amateur Style Wrestling Match and says if there are any weapons used, The Dudley Boyz will leave the building. New Jack and Kronus come out without music so Gertner goes to the floor and brings out Jeff Jones to be the referee! He says as the senior official, he promises that nobody will see chairs, crutches, or stop signs used and no weapons AT ALL. New Jack keeps arguing, and Bubba says they're scared because they don't know how to wrestle. Kronus says he does, and New Jack then has words with him. Bubba tells Kronus to listen to Black Perry, and calls him a retard. Match #8: The Gangstanators [c] vs. The Dudley Boyz w/ Everyone [ECW Tag Team Championship - NCAA Rules] Kronus does wrestling until Big Dick comes out to attack New Jack. "Natural Born Killaz" finally hits and it becomes the match we all know it would become. KRONUS BEATS THE SHIT OUT OF BUBBA WITH A PINK BARBIE CAR. New Jack is on a tear tonight, and he pretty much murders D-Von in the crowd, so Bubba works the last 3-4 minutes alone. Some cool stuff, and he hurls a broken crutch across the ring into Kronus' dick. However, Bubba gets beat with the 450 Splash and 187 in succession. **1/4 |

ECW World Heavyweight Champion: Shane Douglas, Since 8/17/1997 ECW Television Champion: Taz, Since 6/7/1997 - LONGEST REIGNING CURRENT CHAMPION ECW Tag Team Champions: The Gangstanators, Since 9/20/1997 ECW Hardcore TV October 18th, 1997 Philadelphia, PA A video of Brian Pillman in ECW airs to open the show, since he's dead now. The Taz/Pitbulls/Wright segment plays AGAIN. In a pretape, Taz says Gary's right about one thing, he's not a company man. He's wrong about him being friendless though, because he's got one friend he trusts, and that trusts him back. On June 7th, he made a friend for life, and that's the Television Championship. He says this belt means more than any other belt, even Shane's belt, because these is a TV industry and he's the best wrestler on TV because of this belt. He says if Shane Douglas hurt him, he asks what he thinks he'll do to him. He challenges them to a handicap match and he'll show him what kind of a champion is, and says to bring in Lance Wright too, and he'll beat three at once. BEAT HIM IF YOU CAN. SURVIVE IF HE LETS YOU. Closing moments of Shane/Tommy at Terry Funk's retirement show air. Looks good, but it's just the closing minutes. Shane retains obviously. In the back, Shane and Francine cut a promo. Shane says everyone wants a shot at Francine, but he's the only one who gets it OR says who can. And he's not a giving kind of guy. Clips from Sabu/Sandman air AGAIN as Joey talks about stuff. The old Mikey Whipwreck "Say It Ain't So" video airs. In the back, Joey brings on Mikey Whipwreck. He nervously says he might be afraid of his own shadow, but he's not afraid of Sabu and RVD and he doesn't like what they're doing, so he challenges them to a fight. FUCK YEAH MIKEY! PUSH HIM AGAIN. Clips air of the Tommy/Sandman feud in 1994. Holy shit, what happened? Did they lose the tapes on a house show or something or not process them fast enough? This is a total nothing recap show. In a pretape, Tommy Dreamer cuts a promo. He has a brace on his ankle, and he says a lot's changed in the last three years. The Sandman's become a guy who'll fight you straight up, and Sabu's become a guy who'll attack from behind. That's the difference between them and the other guys, they'll take 5 to get 1 in. He says he made a promise, just like when he said he'd kick Raven's ass and when he said he'd kick Jerry Lawler's ass. He says he's gonna fuck Sabu up. The post-match of FBI vs. Rotten Balls from 9/20 airs again. Joey plugs N2R again to end the show. |

ECW World Heavyweight Champion: Shane Douglas, Since 8/17/1997 ECW Television Champion: Taz, Since 6/7/1997 - LONGEST REIGNING CURRENT CHAMPION ECW Tag Team Champions: The Gangstanators, Since 9/20/1997 ECW Fan Cam October 16th, 1997 Queens, NY I don't have the 10/25 episode of HCTV, which is weird because it's a pretty huge episode in the N2R build. I do have the full show that they took the matches from though, so I might as well just review that! FBI vs. Chetti/Spike is set to open again, but the FBI attacks Chetti from behind. They take him out, and he's hurt, so Tommy Dreamer comes out to replace him. Match #1: Tommy Dreamer/Spike Dudley vs. Little Guido/Tracy Smothers Awesome fun opener. Beulah and Tommy Rich are on the floor. Usual FBI comedy and shenanigans. Spike was an awesome underdog babyface, and Tommy did well as main eventer among the midcarders. They worked over Tommy's hurt ankle and he was surprisingly the FIP. His selling was good, and Spike is a really good hot tag by this point. They teased the restart angle, but Tommy kicked out of a cheap roll up, and Spike hit the Tornado Bulldog to win. **1/2 Paul Heyman hits the ring and the crowd chants for PPV in New York. Paul takes off his headset and gets on the mic and immediately asks how the fuck they are. He says there was a criticism of the New York crowd, and they chant "PHILLY SUCKS DICK!" I do not understand this rivalry. You're both awful human beings by virtue of being ECW fans! The camera moves around in the crowd for several minutes and Paul shits on some fat dude, but we can't see this disgusting mongoloid. Thanks, Rob or Gabe! He pretty much thanks everyone for coming and tells a lady in the crowd in a low cut shirt that she has great tits. In the ring after that, Joey Styles introduces the show and this is where HCTV from 10/25 starts. He brings out Shane Douglas and Francine. The crowd now likes him for some reason, and he tells them to fuck off for being bandwagon jumpers. He brings out Rick Rude and asks who the lamb for slaughter is this week. Rude comes down to the ring now starting to grow his sweet late 90s beard. What he'd like to have right now is for all you flabby, out of shape...the crowd stops him with a "YOU FUCK CHYNA!" chant. He says he's done a lot of fucking in China. And Singapore. And around the world. Tell him something he doesn't know, because he doesn't have shit to say to them. He says he's got someone for Shane, because he hired him to do a job. He paid him well, and Shane says he paid him with a woman who's wetter than a river and hotter than hell. Rude says he's a free agent and he can do whatever he wants wherever he wants, and Shane wanted him to find opponents to push him to his peak. He's got a man who ran roughshod through the WWF, roughshod through the WCW, and he's had his way in Japan, Asia, Europe, everywhere. AND BAM BAM BIGELOW COMES OUT! HOLY SHIT YES! Candido comesw out to try and talk him down and Shane holds up the Triple Threat sign, BUT BAM BAM SHOVES CANDIDO DOWN! Rude says if he gets a shot at Sunny, he'll talk to the big man. Candido refuses, and the match is on. Match #2: Shane Douglas [c] w/ Francine, Chris Candido, & Rick Rude vs. Bam Bam Bigelow [ECW World Heavyweight Championship] Going by Biggie's review, I was expecting something more, but we also apparently watched different matches, since this had no knee work by Shane or a Belly to Belly kickout. Howeever, this is fun, but only like 7 minutes. Shane does his best Flair vs. Big Man, but this is ultimately more of a great angle than a great match. Shane gets like a minute of offense maybe, but Bam Bam power up and starts demolishing him again. Shane dodges the Diving Headbutt and tries the Belly to Belly, but Bam Bam counters with a DDT. He then hits a Powerbomb to win the title! YEAH! BBB/Taz title vs. title is gonna RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUULE. *** Bigelow gives the finger to the Triple Threat, and Rude puts the belt around his waist. Match #3: The Great Sasuke vs. Justin Credible w/ Jason Fuck. I can't believe they're using Sasuke to put this motherfucker over. It's still good because it's Great Sasuke in his peak years, and Justin doesn't embarrass himself or anything, but it's so undeserved. Sasuke had some sweet kicks and guided Phenetic through matwork too. ECW fans are again bored by holds because they're the worst fans. You ever hear that track where Patton Oswalt shuts down a heckler during an abortion joke because he screams out something while Patton's taking the time to set up a joke slowly? They're like that dude. Whenever someone isn't getting thrown around or using weapons, they're fucking confused and yell out "BORING". Or "WHERE'S MY SUSHI". These pieces of shit. Anyways, Sasuke does his best being tasked with this guy and these stupid people and only 8 or 9 minutes. Credible wins clean with That's Incredible, and nobody buys it. **1/2 Match #4: Sabu w/ Bill Alfonso vs. Mikey Whipwreck This isn't as good as their 1996 matches, since this is 9 minutes instead of 15-20. This felt almost like some kind of revenge on the fanbase, working a mat based match for the first 3-4 minutes. It was a good one, since these two are undercover good mat wrestlers. Mikey displayed growth by not getting totally dominated. Once they picked up the pace, it was also really good. Sabu had to bring in a chair to get any kind of control on Mikey. Mikey had some great counters to classic Sabu stuff, but ended up costing himself the match. RVD came out and Mikey dove off the top to him through a table. Sabu brought him back in and hit a Lionsault to him bent over the middle rope to win. *** Match #5: Rob Van Dam w/ Bill Alfonso vs. Al Snow Hey, RVD's fine. Great. This wasn't good. Lots of botches and generic stuff and just a total nothing match to put over RVD. Just goes on far too long. Sabu interferes and Snow takes him out with a NASTY chair shot, before he turns into the Van Daminator, and RVD gets the pin. **1/4 Match #6: Taz [c] vs. Chris Candido [ECW Television Championship] This was very good again. Better than the PPV, since they had more time to play with and Candido got in a real control segment on the neck. Everything both men did was super crisp, and a hot crowd helped them a lot. Unfortunately, this ended really abruptly with another flash Tazmission barely a minute after he came back. I love how they're getting the hold over, but it's been almost two years since it got debuted, and it's time to start playing around with it. Oh well, still a lot of fun. **3/4 DUDLEY MIC TIME! Joel "Always Innuendo, Sometimes In Your Endo" Gertner starts, but Bubab takes the mic. He singles out a lady in the crowd with, "BITCH, IF YOU HAD AS MANY DICKS STICKING OUT OF YOU AS YOU'VE HAD GOING INTO YOU IN YOUR LIFE, YOU'D BE A FUCKING PORCUPINE." Match #7: The Gangstanators [c] vs. The Dudley Boyz vs. Axl Rotten/Balls Mahoney [ECW Tag Team Championship] This is your New Jack Brawl, and it is what it is, and it's alright. Not the best one and not the worst one. Kronus beats Balls with the 450 Splash. *3/4 |

ECW World Heavyweight Champion: Bam Bam Bigelow, Since 10/16/1997 ECW Television Champion: Taz, Since 6/7/1997 - LONGEST REIGNING CURRENT CHAMPION ECW Tag Team Champions: The Gangstanators, Since 9/20/1997 ![]() ECW Halloween Hell 1997 October 31st, 1997 Stamford, CT Match #1: Little Guido/Tracy Smothers [c] w/ Tommy Rich vs. Mikey Whipwreck/Chris Chetti [ECW Tag Team Championship] The title switch hasn't aired yet, BUT FUCK YEAH FBI FINALLY GET THE BELTS! This is your FBI opening match. Mikey adds a little something different to it though by virtue of being such a great and crisp basic babyface and totally different than Spike, who's usually in this. Also he has a SWEET Silver Surfer t-shirt on with Thanos on the back. They do their thing, and Tommy hits Mikey with the Italian flag to cost him the match. What the fuck? Why are they protecting Chetti over Mikey? ** Match #2: Al Snow vs. Paul Diamond w/ Chastity Why? This is pretty below average. Lots of sloppy failed highspots and back and forth. Al hits Chastity with the Snow Plow, but then for some reason, fucking Paul Diamond hits a DDT on him to win. *1/4 Match #3: Jerry Lynn vs. Justin Credible w/ Jason This is the perfect middle of the card match. They'll do enough cool stuff to get the crowd hot, but they won't outshine the top matches or talent. It's hard to find that, because a lot of times you'll have to handcuff or hold guys back in this position, but these two have just the right amount of talent to be perfect midcarders. Jeff Jones plays heel ref again, but now is over the top with it. This is really close to the same match from As Good As It Gets, and Credible wins again with That's Incredible. **3/4 Match #4: Bam Bam Bigelow [c] vs. Spike Dudley [ECW World Heavyweight Championship] Hey, so this is great again. Not on the level of their summer series, but just a total god damned 4 minute mauling, so more of a great squash match than a great real match. Spike dies on everything again, and Bam Bam uses the Greetings From Asbury Park for the first time here to win. ** For the next match, SHANE AND CANDIDO COME OUT IN THEIR DEAN DOUGLAS AND SKIP GEAR AND LONE RANGER MASKS. FUCKING AMAZING. Candido and Shane then do jumping jacks and push ups. ![]() Candido says he and the Dean wanted to dress like their favorite WWF group, but the doctor told him he couldn't get a charisma bypass on such short notice, so he couldn't be Hunter Hearst Helmsley, and Shane says he couldn't drop the 70 fucking pounds to look like that faggot that calls himself The Icon of the WWF. "Sexy Boy" hits and the place ERUPTS, but it's just Blue Meanie in leather chaps. And Nova in a dark green bathrobe ahahaha. Shane and Candido beat them up and take off the outfits to reveal their usual Shane & Candido gear. Aw man. Match #5: The Can-Am Express vs. Shane Douglas/Chris Candido w/ Francine If only this was as good as the pre-match stuff. It's 1997 Can-Ams, so they're slower and injured and it's sad to watch. Shane doesn't exactly work the opposite way and Candido does not actively bring the best out of them, so hey. They have a match and it's like 2/3rds kinda slow before a kick ass finishing run. Shane slips in the Side Belly to Belly on one of them, and Candido rolls on top for the win. **1/2 Match #6: Taz [c] vs. Sabu w/ Rob Van Dam & Bill Alfonso [ECW Television Championship] RVD IS WEARING ALTERNATE SABU GEAR AHAHAHAHAHA. He's kicked out by the ref though. Aw man. This was a 30 minute draw, and they do NOT have the material to go 30, holy shit. They did their usual stuff, but they tried to kill time with random crowd brawling mixed in, but it didn't fit at all. They also kept going back on the mat in between big highspots, so there was really no sense of flow at all to what they did here. This is hugely disappointing. They did stuff for 30 minutes. **1/2 I have two versions of this. One is in pristine 2000s RF video convert quality, but it only lasts through Sabu/Taz. The other one is grainy and choppy with horrible sound, so I'm not going to review that. All I'm missing is RVD/Tommy in a Flag Match and another Gangstanators/Rotten Balls/Dudz brawl. |

ECW World Heavyweight Champion: Bam Bam Bigelow, Since 10/16/1997 ECW Television Champion: Taz, Since 6/7/1997 - LONGEST REIGNING CURRENT CHAMPION ECW Tag Team Champions: The Gangstanators, Since 9/20/1997 ECW Hardcore TV November 1st, 1997 Phladelphia, PA A video recap of the Rude/Douglas/Bigelow stuff dating back to Rude's debut, voiced over by Paul Heyman, and set to "November Rain". Paul announces that it will be Bigelow/Douglas II for the ECW Title as the main event of November to Remember 1997. Match #1: The Gangstanators [c] vs. Little Guido/Tracy Smothers w/ Tommy Rich [ECW Tag Team Championship] This is like 98% a Gangstanators squash. It's awesome because, y'know, Gangstanators squashes are pretty great and entertaining. Two normal refs are taken out in the complete chaos that is New Jack mauling dudes, and The Dudley Boyz run out with crooked referee Jeff Jones. They hit Kronus with the 3D, AND PUT GUIDO ON TOP FOR THE THREE COUNT! FUCK YEAH FBI! *3/4 The heels celebrate with the title, and Balls Mahoney and Axl Rotten come out with chairs to fight them all. The FBI are basically dead, and it turns into them vs. The Dudley Boyz. Match #2: The Dudley Boyz vs. Axl Rotten/Balls Mahoney This is more of an angle than anything, as it soon turns into all four teams fighting in the ring. It's not a match at all, and it goes to the floor. There's a referee fight and John Finnegan wins out, and Axl beats D-Von with a Reverse DDT on the chair after like 3-4 minutes of that. 3/4* It is supposed to be Chris Candido in a tag match against the Can-Ams, but he comes out with no partner. In the back, Joey says Lance Storm was chosen as a new Triple Threat prospect by Candido's significant other because of his muscular development and the way he fills out his tights. Match #3: Chris Candido/Lance Storm vs. The Can-Am Express This was the best match of the Can-Ams' 1997 run so far. They kept the match focused on offense and striking. Candido had some awesome bumping and selling, and they isolated Lance. He's not a great FIP since he's not a natural babyface, but Furnas and Lafon carry it with some great offense. Good stuff at the end, and Candido tries an Enzuiguri on Lafon, but he ducks and it hits Furnas as he tries to Powerbomb Lance, who then gets a sloppy Huracanrana for the win. **3/4 Match #4: Taz [c] vs. Rob Van Dam w/ Bill Alfonso [ECW Television Championship] So this rules. It's only like 6 or 7 minutes, but these two work SO well together and bring out the best in each other. RVD will completely die bumping for Taz's suplexes, and Taz takes all of RVD's flippity nonsense very well too. It breaks down when Sabu gets involved, but then Tommy Dreamer runs out to take him away. The Pitbulls come out with Lance Wright and in ridiculous white suits and they attack for the DQ. **3/4 Bam Bam Bigelow comes out to save, but Taz is mad. He says he's the top champion in ECW and he doesn't need anybody's help. He shoves Bigelow, and they have to be pulled apart. What a piece of shit. |

ECW World Heavyweight Champion: Bam Bam Bigelow, Since 10/16/1997 ECW Television Champion: Taz, Since 6/7/1997 - LONGEST REIGNING CURRENT CHAMPION ECW Tag Team Champions: Little Guido/Tracy Smothers, Since 10/18/1997 ECW Hardcore TV November 8th, 1997 Philadelphia, PA In the back, Francine says it turns her on so much when men fight over her. From HYPE CENTRAL~, Wright interviews Rick Rude. He says Joey makes everything seem so easy, like he sold his soul for a piece of pooch. He says he's had more ass than toilet seats at MSG, and he only wanted Francine because she belonged to The Franchise. He says Bam Bam's career had been bogged down by the word cooperation, and Rick Rude thrives on MANIPULATION, be it getting Bam Bam to the ring or working for all three companies at once. He says he promised to fuck with the Franchise, and he's a man of his word. He says the word now is anticipation, and tells Shane not to let the anticipation of the ass kicking he'll get on November 30th kill him. Shane and Francine come out for the match, and Shane says he's taken a lot of good natured ribbing in pro wrestling, for example, listening to their shit for four years. He says because of that, the only thing that bothered him about what that turncoat did is that since October 16th, his bag's been heavier. That's it. He hasn't been able to sleep, he hasn't been able to train, and he hasn't been able to thrust all twelve inches up into his lady because he can't even get hard without the ECW Title. He says it's only temporary because he'll be back to his usual form, but there's one thing that makes him feel good about what happened. It showed him that tattooed shit's true colors AND QUEENS, NEW YORK GOT TO SEE A TITLE CHANGE AND THESE FAGGOTS IN PHILADELPHIA DIDN'T GET TO SEE HIM LOSE! It's a shame his in-ring peak missed his microphone work peak by a year, because that was the best Shane promo ever. Match #1: Shane Douglas vs. Sabu vs. Tommy Dreamer [Three Way Dance] Franchine, Fonzie, and Beulah are on the floor. They clearly planned a great match, and this delivered. Of the stuff they tried, about 85-90% of it worked, and for ECW, I'll count that as a win. Took a little bit to get going, but once they got off the ground, this was all solid. Lots of cool and inventive spots to work over Tommy's ankle and he sold it pretty well. Shane tried to outright bail on the match, but Bam Bam Bigelow came out to stop him. He press slammed him in, and Sabu hit an Arabian Facebuster. Tommy and Sabu both covered to eliminate him. Tommy vs. Sabu is really awesome. Tommy hits a DDT off the top through a table, but Fonzie smashes a chair onto his ankle. He can't get up, so once Sabu recovers, he can hit an Arabian Facebuster, Flying Legdrop, and finally a Triple Jump Moonsault to put him down. ***1/4 A long pretape airs from Shane Douglas airs again talking about the turn and when he came to ECW and pretty much every Shane Douglas promo ever. This goes like 10 minutes, and the gist is that Shane wants his belt back and he's going to do it in his hometown. MORE N2R MATCHES: -TOMMY DREAMER VS. ROB VAN DAM IN A YET TO BE NAMED STIPULATION MATCH -TAZ VS. PITBULL #2 FOR THE TV TITLE -FBI VS. DUDLEYS VS. GANGSTANATORS VS. BALLS & AXL FOR THE BELTS, IN WHICH STYLES CLAIMS THE FBI WILL LOSE THE TITLES BECAUSE HE'S A PIECE OF SHIT |

ECW World Heavyweight Champion: Bam Bam Bigelow, Since 10/16/1997 ECW Television Champion: Taz, Since 6/7/1997 - LONGEST REIGNING CURRENT CHAMPION ECW Tag Team Champions: Little Guido/Tracy Smothers, Since 10/18/1997 ECW Hardcore TV November 15th, 1997 Philadelphia, PA The last two minutes of Credible/Chetti airs to open the show. Credible is fine here, but you can tell he worshipped the Kliq, between his crotch chops and his poor imitation of that classic Shawn Michaels bump where he'd lie on the ropes in the corner and then get kicked so hard that he'd crotch himself up top. Credible wins with That's Incredible. Post-match, Jason gets in the ring and rolls Chetti out before he gets on the mic. He says he has something to do now and he sends Credible to the back. He says he's one of the only true wrestlers in the back, and challenges anyone to come out and fight him in a Street Fight. The Blue Meanie and Nova come out and Jason says he wanted an athlete, and Meanie needs street clothes for a street fight, so Meanie says these are his street clothes. Match #1: Jason vs. The Blue Meanie w/ Nova [Street Fight] They do stuff and Meanie gets a dick claw into a schoolboy to win in a minute. 40/Turd Meanie is now using "YMCA" as a theme, and EVERYONE in the arena does the motions with him. Fantastic. In the back, Joey goes over the November to Remember card again, and says RVD vs. Tommy Dreamer is now a Flag Match. Rick Rude comes out and gets on the mic. The crowd tells him he sold out, so he wants all you fat, out of shape, inner-city sweathogs to open your eyes and shut up, and he brings out Bam Bam Bigelow. He comes out, but Chris Candido and Lance Storm attack him from behind. He has a nasty cut on the back of his head and referees and Rick Rude check on him. In the back, Joey and then Wright interrupting both say Bam Bam is being stitched up in the back and is pissed off. Lance says that's the Wright information. Wright also says Rick Rude has suggested a lawsuit for the attack last year, so he won't interview Shane Douglas tonight, so the wrong person, Joey Styles, will be interviewing him. In the ring, Joey Styles brings out Shane Douglas and Francine for an interview. Shane says thanks to their prospect, they've made Bam Bam Bigelow a bit more cooperative, and says he can cooperate to do the job in the middle of the ring, but it'll be at the hands of the Franchise and not LT. He says after he wins the title back tonight, he can go back home to a real city worthy of a PPV, not this shithole. He says he might even get a new PPV opponent, and that'll be a rude awakening. Rick Rude comes out with the mic and says Francine told him once that if Shane's dick was an inch shorter, it'd be a zit on his ass. Lance and Candido come out and Shane challenges to take them all on. Bam Bam Bigelow runs out to save. Shane and Candido bail, but he murders Lance with some clotheslines and the Greetings From Asbury Park. Match #2: Sabu/Rob Van Dam vs. Taz/Tommy Dreamer Fonzie and Beulah are on the floor. This was kind of a mess, but wasn't outright bad. They immediately went into a brawl, and it was a whole lot of setting up for stuff but in an obvious way, and then generic fighting and stuff. I'm struggling to find the exact right word or phrase, but it was just a lesser ECW style affair. Taz leaves to go fight The Pitbulls in the crowd, and then Tommy's heel is worked over. They take off the cast, but he avoids stuff and hits Van Dam with a DDT on a chair for the win. **3/4 Sabu brings a ladder in and they beat up Tommy with it. RVD hits Tommy's ankle with a chair as Sabu puts up a ladder. All three put up a table and put it over his ankle to trap him. Sabu sets up a fireball to the foot because I guess he's Papa Shango, BUT THE LIGHTS GO OUT AND THE SANDMAN RETURNS BAH GAWD. |

ECW World Heavyweight Champion: Bam Bam Bigelow, Since 10/16/1997 ECW Television Champion: Taz, Since 6/7/1997 - LONGEST REIGNING CURRENT CHAMPION ECW Tag Team Champions: Little Guido/Tracy Smothers, Since 10/18/1997 ECW Hardcore TV November 22nd, 1997 Philadelphia, PA It cuts in from the end of last week, and now Sandman fights RVD and Sabu. He gets rid of RVD and puts Sabu on the table. Sandman goes up to the top of the ladder and jumps off to put Sabu through with the Rolling Rock! In the back, Joey Styles announces Sabu vs. The Sandman in a match where ladders and tables are legal. He then goes over the card again. In a pretape, Shane Douglas says on November 30th, he's going to remind Bam Bam Bigelow why he should have stuck with them. He says loss can humble a man and light a fire under a man's ass, and that's what he's done. He says he's had his ass beat again and he can take it again, and asks if Bam Bam can take it, and it's now a chess game, and welcomes him to his hometown, because he won't lose there. Well, I guess that whole thing about Shane's promo peak being now was wrong, and it was just a weirdly lucky promo a few weeks back. Clips air of The Sandman's N2R history. In 1994, he came back to nearly murder Tommy Dreamer with cane shots. In 1995, he outdanced the Public Enemy, and in 1996, he finally defeated Raven to retain the ECW Title. Match #1: D-Von Dudley vs. John Kronus vs. Axl Rotten vs. Tracy Smothers [Elimination Match] All the various seconds are on the floor. This was a lot of fun. Eventually, all the partners come out too, and it is god damned insane and wonderful. Guido gets put on two tables and Bubba tries to dive off him from a hydraulic lift, but New Jack is waiting on top of the entrance stage, and breaks a guitar on his head, and hits the dive to kill Guido. Back inside, D-Von eliminates Kronus first. D-Von gets eliminated after the Nutcracker Suite, and then a ref fight happens. Axl hits Tracy with the FBI flag and a Powerbomb to win. **3/4 PULP FICTION RETURNS: -The Sandman says they tell him he's homicidal, suicidal, and genocidal, but if he's suicidal, he's his Kevorkian -He says poor crippled Rick Rude couldn't handle Francine, but he's irrelevant from now on out, because it's about the gold, not the girl or the crowd. He says it's his damn belt. -Bam Bam Bigelow says he's the baddest bitch on the face of the earth -Candido says this is the biggest show he's ever been in, and he's gonna steal the show and show Lance Storm why he follows in his footsteps. 25 years old, and already a legend. -The Sandman says he's outsmarted Tommy Dreamer in November, he's outdanced the Public Enemy, and he's outfought Raven. Hell, he even wore a wetsuit to his first November to Remember, and this is just his month. -Tommy Dreamer talks while Beulah unwraps his ankle and foot bandages and says he's sick of going to the hospital and being told to take time off, because he's not gonna do it. He says he could respect RVD more if he had loyalty to somewhere. If he'd jumped, fine, at least he made a choice. But he has no loyalty to ECW, WCW, or the WWF, or even to his own partner. He says he's gonna bust him up. -The Sandman says nothing in ECW is easy, and he thinks Sabu will have the most homicidal, suicidal, and genocidal match of his career. He says he better, because he's going to do something so extreme to him that they'll have to put him away. -Shane Douglas says if he'd gotten an opportunity in WCW or the WWF, to step out of the shadows of Ric Flair or Shawn Michaels, he'd have proven that he is The Franchise, but he didn't get that. He says being The Franchise isn't a nickname, it's a name he was given. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA OKAY BUDDY. SHUT THE FUCK UP, I CAN'T EVEN LISTEN TO ANYTHING ELSE AFTER THAT, JESUS CHRIST. -Tommy Dreamer says Terry Funk told him not to wrestle, but to fight and fight for what he believes in. He believes in ECW, and next Sunday night, he was going to demonstrate it to Rob Van Dam. -The Sandman says he's going to put Sabu through the most violent match in PPV history -Bam Bam Bigelow says he's gonna embarrass Shane in his backyard -Shane says to save it and says they know all about his history, but the title and the belt belong to him -Tommy Dreamer says he's not a good liar, so the truth is that his phone's been ringing off the hook. WWF, WCW, Memphis, Japan, they all want him to join, but this is home and this is where he's gonna die. He says it'll take an act of God to stop him from taking RVD out. -Chris Candido says his match alone is worth the price of the PPV -Shane Douglas says he's been waiting 15 years for this opportunity and says his performance at November to Remember is the kind of a performance you only see once in a lifetime. Jesus dude, you might wanna set the bar lower. He says he's done holding back. YOU WERE HOLDING BACK?! -The Sandman says he's politically incorrect and damn proud of it |

ECW World Heavyweight Champion: Bam Bam Bigelow, Since 10/16/1997 ECW Television Champion: Taz, Since 6/7/1997 - LONGEST REIGNING CURRENT CHAMPION ECW Tag Team Champions: Little Guido/Tracy Smothers, Since 10/18/1997 ECW Hardcore TV November 29th, 1997 Queens, NY Match #1: Taz [c] vs. Bubba Ray Dudley w/ D-Von Dudley, Joel Gertner, Big Dick Dudley, & Sign Guy Dudley [ECW Television Championship] Good Taz showcase. Bubba gets some good generic power stuff in before Taz comes alive and starts to destroy him with suplexes. Balls and Axl come out with chairs to drive all the Dudleys on the floor to the back, and Joel gets totally slaughtered on a T-Bone Suplex. Taz wins with the Tazmission. ** In the ring after the intro, Joey Styles introduces the show. He brings out Shane Douglas and Francine, because fuck all of life. Francine is on crutches and Shane gets the mic. He says he's had fans tell him Philadelphia is a great wrestling city, and they put Philadelphia to shame any day of the week. YEAH, FUCK THEM. He says they have some of the best looking women in the world, next to Pittsburgh, and some of the most intelligent men, next to Pittsburgh. He says he has to put up with all these assholes to come home a Franchise, and says Pittsburgh will put them and Philly to shame, and has Francine announce him as the new ECW Champion. A video airs on Bam Bam Bigelow. In a pretape, Chris Candido talks. He says he started rolling around in the ring when he was 6, and he had his first match at 14, and he's not even 26 years old. He says he goes everywhere and all the smart fans ask him about wrestling, and they ask about who's the best. They bring up Misawa and Kobashi, and say those matches were great. They can't be that fucking smart if they don't mention Kawada. He says they talk about Chris Benoit and Ric Flair, they can't have a bad match, and he agrees. Guys like Guerrero and Malenko, and he agrees. Sabu, Rob Van Dam, they put their bodies on the line. Bam Bam Bigelow, even though he doesn't like him, he's the best big man ever. Or his partner, Shane Douglas, the rightful champion. He says they know how he feels about Shawn Michaels, but he steals the show every PPV he's on, and you can't deny it. He then asks if you can really STEAL the show when you're the main event and the show is GIVEN to you. CHRIS CANDIDO MAKES THE POINT I'VE BEEN SAYING FOR YEARS! FUCK YEAH! He says on December 1st, they'll all be talking about Shane winning the title back, but they'll also talk about CHRIS GOD DAMNED CANDIDO. He says HE'S the greatest performer in the world today and he's going to prove it starting on November 30th. In the back, Joey announced Candido vs. Tommy Rogers. AWESOME! Match #2: Bam Bam Bigelow [c] vs. Sabu w/ Bill Alfonso [ECW World Heavyweight Championship] HNGH. This is an amazing 5-6 minute match before booking happens. Sabu throws everything he has at Bigelow immediately, and it does a great job getting over how unstoppable the big man is. Sabu then dies on the few bumps he takes, and uses a chair and Fonzie's distractions to stay alive. The Sandman shows up in the balcony seats to watch, and Bigelow is about to hit Greetings From Asbury Park, but RVD comes out to attack for the DQ. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. **3/4 Tommy Dreamer runs out to save and they go after his leg. They put a chair over his leg and bring a ladder in, and they slam the ladder down on his leg under the chair! The Sandman finally hits the ring and they all run away. In a pretape, Rob Van Dam and Sabu are standing on the ECW flag as it's on the ground, and they turn around after pissing on it. RVD asks if Tommy's so sure about this flag match, and says he's got a lot to lose. He says Vince would love for him to hang his flag up on his show, and it's not news that Eric Bischoff calls him every week. Rob says Tommy can wave his flag if he wins, but they have MUCH bigger plans, AND SABU THROWS A FIREBALL ON IT. HOLY SHIT. ![]() This year's "November Rain" video opens with that. Really great stuff again, although not as good as the 1996 video, because no feud is as good as Raven/Sandman. |
