ECW World Heavyweight Champion: Bam Bam Bigelow, Since 10/16/1997 ECW Television Champion: Taz, Since 6/7/1997 - LONGEST REIGNING CURRENT CHAMPION ECW Tag Team Champions: Little Guido/Tracy Smothers, Since 10/18/1997 ![]() ECW NOVEMBER TO REMEMBER 1997 NOVEMBER 30TH, 1997 MONACA, PA Match #1: Chris Candido vs. Tommy Rogers Great match. Pretty much a classic opening style match. They do some great basic wrestling and it moves into a great offensive display. Everything is crisp and coherent, everything works, and they get like 10-15 minutes to go out and mess around. Tommy catches Candido coming off the top with a Liger Bomb, but Lance Storm runs in to attack. The ref calls nothing, but Jerry Lynn comes out to save. Joey says Lynn is his tag team partner, which I guess is his way of saying they had one house show tag together. Anyways, this becomes a tag team match now when the referee says so. Match #1a: Chris Candido/Lance Storm vs. Jerry Lynn/Tommy Rogers This is really good. I'm judging it as an extension of the singles match, so it's basically just the finishing run. Everything worked well and was crisp, just like the singles match. Ending was a little off, as Tommy breaks up the count off the Blonde Bombshell to Lynn, before falling to Candido's Bridging Northern Lights Suplex. The Superbomb is much more impressive and if Candido and Lance were winning anyways, it makes sense to go with that as the end. Oh well. *** Footage airs of Mikey Whipwreck beating Steve Austin at N2R 1995 and Credible beating Sasuke a few weeks ago. Paul does the voiceovers and talks about how young they both still are. Match #2: Mikey Whipwreck vs. Justin Credible w/ Jason Fun spotfest. Mikey was awesome as usual, and Justin had some nice piece of offense when he wasn't trying to be some weird H/Shawn combination. They got a little too back and forthy at the end when they'd had a really good classical style match going before then, and it holds it back from being great. Jason's interference fails when Mikey throws him into the corner to crotch Credible up top. Mikey throws him out and hits Credible with the Whippersnapper off the top to win. **3/4 In the back, Al Snow is in the locker room and has now adopted the JOB Squad shirt, with "HELP ME" written backwards on his head, and is talking to Head for the first time. He says he could have had that match and done the J-O-B on the P-P-V, but Head told everyone he had a dislocated shoulder. Al Snow then starts reciting "Bret Screwed Bret", but says the Head screwed the Head. Al says he's getting himself over from now on. A hype video airs for Sabu/Sandman. Match #3: Taz [c] vs. Pitbull #2 w/ Lance Wright & Pitbull #1 [ECW Television Championship] Wright has some other unnamed people in his entourage. Paul Heyman joins commentary for this. This is like 90 seconds and Taz wins with the Tazmission. FUCK YEAH. GO AWAY FOREVER PITBULLS. *1/2 #1 also gets dumped on his head, and Taz gets the mic. He says Lance Wright brought his boyfriend with him, and says Vince gave Lance Wright a present. IT'S BRAKKUS. BAH GAWD. He takes off his shirt, and Taz says it's obvious he sticks needles up his ass, brother. He gets on the apron so security tries to break it up. Taz chokes out a security guard, and Paul yells to roll something else. So they keep replaying the Bigelow/Spike crowd toss. DUDLEY MIC TIME: It is time for Joel "So big, it's hard to keep from hurtin' her" Gertner to introduce everyone. He says Big Dick Dudley impregnated your mother last night, and points to some fat asshole in the crowd. He then introduces the former and future Tag Team Champions, and Bubba Ray Dudley is now from the suburban South Park section of Dudleyville and is the Dudleyville sports legend. Match #4: Little Guido/Tracy Smothers [c] vs. The Dudley Boyz vs. The Gangstanators vs. Axl Rotten/Balls Mahoney [ECW Tag Team Champions - Elimination Match] This was a ton of fun. The usual weapon and "Natural Born Killaz" filled chaos when all four teams are in. BUBBA DOES A RUNNING DIVE OVER THE TOP! FUCK YEAH! They keep doing stuff and Tommy Rich has a guitar broken on his head. Kronus goes up top, but Guido shoves him off AND INTO THE BUBBA CUTTER AND THE GANGSTANATORS ARE GONE. More action occurs, and Gertner accidentally blinds Bubba with powder when Balls moves. Balls tricks Bubba into helping him hit D-Von with the 3D, and Axl pins D-Von to eliminate them! Balls and Axl then maul the FBI, but the original ref goes down. Jeff Jones comes out, but checks on the ref instead of counting. Balls goes after him, so Jeff Jones kicks him in the dick, AND GUIDO GETS A ROLL UP TO WIN! YEAH! **3/4 Footage airs from when Tommy Dreamer and Beulah arrived at the arena earlier tonight. Tommy says he's not 100%, he's not even at 50%, because he's got a bad shoulder and a broken heel, and RVD's a better athlete than him and he's got better moves than he does. He says on any other day in any other match, RVD could beat him, but he's not losing this match tonight, and he's going to show RVD what the revolution is all about. A hype video airs for RVD/Dreamer. Match #5: Tommy Dreamer vs. Rob Van Dam [Flag Match] Beulah and Fonzie are on the floor. This could have been great, but was marred by too much booking. They have a good match by now, we've seen it 3 or 4 times so there's nothing new, but it's all very good. Jeff Jones gets involved, but the two other refs hit him with a Double DDT finally. Fonzie low blows them both, so all the referees are down. Tommy looks like he has it won, but Furnas and Lafon interfere! Tommy takes them out, BUT TURNS INTO A STEVIE KICK?! FUCK YEAH! I HAD NO IDEA STEVIE CAME BACK AT ALL! THIS RULES! They beat up Tommy in a 4 on 1, and the match is now just kind of over. RVD hits a Frog Splash as they hold a garbage can over Tommy, and Stevie and the Can-Ams unofficially count to three. **1/2 Fonzie announces RVD as the winner, and they pull out the WWF flag. They put Tommy on a table and drape the WWF flag over him. They signal to the back, and Sabu comes out now. He goes up top, but Beulah tries to get in the way, SO SABU JUST KILLS HER WITH A CLOTHESLINE! YEAH! The table tips over and just fucking vanishes, so they all beat on Tommy Dreamer until The Sandman comes out to save. Except he doesn't save at all, he just kinda comes out and everyone leaves. Match #6: The Sandman vs. Sabu w/ Bill Alfonso [Tables & Ladders Are Legal, But it's ECW So They Always Are Anyways] This is supposedly an infamously bad match, due to Sandman being extra fucked up tonight. I'd say it's more entertaining than outright bad in the first half, since he's stumbling around all the time, and just falling down on Sabu instead of throwing real elbow drops on the floor and hurling ladders at him with reckless abandon. Sabu does what he can, but this is a total spectacle because of Sandman. Part of the charm of these two is that kind of reckless style, so I can handle this. Sandman just spins around and collapses when Sabu sends him to the ropes, and the botching infects Sabu too after 10 minutes. Then it starts to really fucking drag. SABU EVEN BOTCHES A FIREBALL. After 21 minutes, about 9-10 of which were truly just fucking HORRIBLE and the kind of thing people use to shit on ECW, Sabu wins with a ladder Arabian Facebuster. I liked the first half, but Jesus, this was bad. *1/2 Match #7: Bam Bam Bigelow [c] vs. Shane Douglas w/ Francine [ECW World Heavyweight Championship] This got 25 minutes, and that was a mistake. Just like the guy he closest resembles, Shane will pretty much be given all the time he wants as the top guy, and vastly overestimates his abilities when he is a power wrestler pretending to be Ric Flair. It was different given that he was the babyface in his hometown and they adjusted accordingly, but still, too long. Bam Bam is AWESOME at being a dominating monster. Shane is less awesome at working from underneath here. BBB also controls him for like 98% of the match and it becomes far too much. They have some really cool spots like Shane Powerbombing BBB off the top in his one bit of offense and attacking the kidneys, which Bam Bam sells all match. BBB also press slams Shane out onto Candido and Lance when they try and come out. They keep at it, and Shane gets a fluke second Side Belly to Belly through half of a table and a chair to win the title back. So that was a 25 minute squash with a fluke ending. That's...okay, that's both horrible and incredibly ballsy. ** The Triple Threat celebrates with the title to end the show and it's awful and I hate everything. |

ECW World Heavyweight Champion: Shane Douglas, Since 11/30/1997 ECW Television Champion: Taz, Since 6/7/1997 - LONGEST REIGNING CURRENT CHAMPION ECW Tag Team Champions: Little Guido/Tracy Smothers, Since 10/18/1997 ECW Hardcore TV December 6th, 1997 Philadelphia, PA In a recap of Shane Douglas' title win to open the show, Paul Heyman says he's scheduled for elbow surgery this week, and his career may be over. A longer recap via photos and Heyman voiceovers airs of Bigelow/Douglas. Match #1: Mikey Whipwreck vs. Spike Dudley This is from the last Arena show in early November, but that doesn't stop this from being great. This is really awesome as far as being your classic face/face partner vs. partner match. Both men got lots of stuff in and and Mikey guides Spike well to cover up for him being less crisp than Mikey. The experience of Mikey is usually what lets him take over, which is a really nice idea. Spike debuts the Acid Drop, but it doesn't work. Mikey hits the Whippersnapper for the win. This ruled and was so much better than I expected. fuck it *** Joey talks about Mikey/Credible, and then shows Mikey/Austin from N2R 1995. A recap of Sabu/The Sandman airs to "Cherub Rock". Clips air of The Sandman hobbling out of his locker room after N2R with a beer in one hand and a cigarette in the other. He stops in front of the camera and says, "God, I love ECW", and walks off. Rob Van Dam vs. Al Snow from 10/16 in Queens airs. A recap of Taz/Pitbull #2 airs, which is longer than the match itself due to Paul's narration. A recap of RVD/Tommy Dreamer airs to the opening minutes of "November Rain". In the back, Stevie Richards cuts a promo. He says the last five months, he's been in WCW and he's done a lot of thinking. He says what stuck out in his mind was June 7th, because that was supposed to be his ECW Title match that he gave up due to a severe neck injury. He went out to pour his heart out and they chanted "FUCK YOU" and for him to go home, so he left after "YOU SOLD OUT". He says he thought about it for five months and came to the conclusion that he's better. When you're THE superstar, that doesn't matter, and the one opinion that matters to him is his opinion, and he forgives them. He is not convincing at all, and I now realize that Stevie Richard's bad neck injury as a result of the ECW style and his anger at the fans caused him to lose his mind and eventually try to destroy the hardcore wrestling style with censorship. |

ECW World Heavyweight Champion: Shane Douglas, Since 11/30/1997 ECW Television Champion: Taz, Since 6/7/1997 - LONGEST REIGNING CURRENT CHAMPION ECW Tag Team Champions: Little Guido/Tracy Smothers, Since 10/18/1997 ECW Hardcore TV December 13th, 1997 Philadelphia, PA In the ring, Joey welcomes us to ECW Better Than Ever. He announces that Furnas and Lafon won the ECW Tag Team Titles last night when they took the tag title shot belonging to The Gangstanators when Kronus was injured. He comes out with his arm and wrist in a cast. Joey recaps his last few months, and the Dudley Boyz come out. Joey says he's hurt and this isn't a match and they've done enough. They get in the ring and make Joey leave, and attack Kronus with a 3 on 1. Gertner asks Kronus if he's having a good evening, BUT NEW JACK COMES OUT! YEAH! He cleans house, but is still alone and Spike Dudley comes out to help and a match happens! Match #1: The Dudley Boyz w/ Everyone vs. New Jack/Spike Dudley Really fun New Jack match. It's only like 5 minutes, but hey. New Jack gets taken out with a guitar shot since it's still basically 3 on 2 with Big Dick factored in. Spike tries to fight, but Big Dick catches him on the top rope, AND THROWS HIM OFF INTO A BUBBA CUTTER ONTO THE TABLE, BUT IT DOESN'T BREAK AND SPIKE IS DEAD. Bubba then puts him through the table with another Powerbomb before he pins him with a foot on the chest. **1/4 Match #2: Mikey Whipwreck vs. Justin Credible w/ Jason I'm loving this Mikey resurgence in the second half of 1997. This isn't as good as the PPV, but they change this up a lot from the PPV match, and Credible also looks the best he has on offense yet in ECW. He's still trying waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too hard with his heel mannerisms, but I don't suppose that ever stops. Jason comes in to stop the Whippersnapper, but Mikey gets down and hits him with the Stunner, and then hits Credible with the Frankensteiner for the win! FUCK YEAH MIKEY WHIPWRECK WINNING STREAK! **1/2 Buffalo local promos! DON'T CARE. BUFFALO. TATANKA. In the back, Joey Styles says it was supposed to be Shane Douglas vs. Chris Chetti, but shows video of Shane Douglas with his arm from the bicep to wrist in a full cast due to the elbow surgery, and says "Superstar" Stevie Richards has stepped up, and he's even using the Jesus Christ Superstar theme. Oh my god, this is horrible. Match #3: Stevie Richards vs. Chris Chetti This sure happens. Joey says Chris Chetti is the most talented rookie ever in professional wrestling. Dude, come on. Nope. Chetti dominates Stevie, now in leather short shorts, with his own offense, and even hits him with the Stevie Kick. He misses the Double Jump Moonsult though and Stevie gets his first piece of offense and wins with the Stevie Kick. *1/4 Another pretape airs, with Al Snow arguing with Head and he yells at Head and says he's trying to listen to him. He says the head honchos always told him the key to getting push was to give them a little head, and he never got it, but now he does, and says he's got a little Head, and now he's gonna get a push. AMAZING. The Can-Ams now have Lance Wright and Brakkus with them, and Lance says they're going to hand the ECW Tag Titles to Vince McMahon this Monday night, so he can throw them in the trash where they belong. Match #4: The Can-Am Express [c] w/ Lance Wright & Brakkus vs. Axl Rotten/Balls Mahoney vs. Chris Candido/Lance Storm w/ Francine [ECW Tag Team Championship - Three Way Dance] This was good and bad. A lot of cool spots happened, but it was kind of a mess at points too, and Lance threw one of the most hilariously missed dropkicks ever, and Lafon bumped for the air. One of them gets eliminated with the Nutcracker Suite, and then it picks up a good amount. Francine breaks a crutch on Axl's back on the top rope, AND CANDIDO AND LANCE HIT A DOUBLE SUPERPLEX TO WIN! FUCK YEAH! **1/4 |

ECW World Heavyweight Champion: Shane Douglas, Since 11/30/1997 ECW Television Champion: Taz, Since 6/7/1997 - LONGEST REIGNING CURRENT CHAMPION ECW Tag Team Champions: Chris Candido/Lance Storm, Since 12/6/1997 ECW Hardcore TV December 20th, 1997 Buffalo, NY Match #1: The Sandman vs. Sabu w/ Bill Alfonso & Rob Van Dam They only showed five minutes of this, but it was still better than November to Remember. Things were clean and they used ladders and tables. Nothing new, just a cleaned up version of the PPV's last 5 or so minutes with more RVD thrown in at the end. RVD hits a Flying Sidekick into a ladder that Sandman was holding up, and then Sabu hits an Arabian Facebuster while Sandman is under the ladder for the win. **1/4 Match #2: Mikey Whipwreck vs, Justin Credible w/ Jason This is pretty much of the same quality as their last two matches before the booking kicks in. Mikey injures his knee though and Justin goes after it. He puts on a really shitty looking Legbar, and Mikey oversells it to a hilarious degree and says he's breaking his leg. The referee stops the match and awards it to Credible. **1/4 Credile refuses to let go and Jason joins in the attack. Justin hits him with two That's Incredibles after the match. Jerry Lynn, Axl Rotten, and Balls Mahoney and some other random dudes come out to save, and Credible leaves. Mikey is stretchered out. ![]() Clips air of Al Snow vs. Paul Diamond. This does not look good, but Al wins. Match #3: Chris Chetti vs. Pitbull #2 w/ Pitbull #1 Chetti gets squashed for 3 minutes, but then hits a Frankensteiner to block the Superbomb, and hits his Double Jump Moonsault for the upset. *1/2 In the back, Al Snow talks. He says he appreciates that the fans have accepted him in ECW, and it means the world to he and his family. He wishes everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah from he and his Head. He holds up Head and says he doesn't want to do that. He argues with it, but then says he hopes they all get a little head for Christmas too, and yells at Head for making him say that. |

ECW World Heavyweight Champion: Shane Douglas, Since 11/30/1997 ECW Television Champion: Taz, Since 6/7/1997 - LONGEST REIGNING CURRENT CHAMPION ECW Tag Team Champions: Chris Candido/Lance Storm, Since 12/6/1997 ECW Hardcore TV December 27th, 1997 Buffalo, NY Taz comes out and says he stood in this ring a few months ago and Tommy Dreamer said he'd challenge him for his title the next time they were in Buffalo, and calls out Tommy Dreamer to get in this ring later tonight, and the two of them were going to fight for the most prestigious title in wrestling, and Tommy will become just another victim. Because he's Taz. BEAT HIM IF YOU CAN, SURVIVE IF HE LETS YOU. In the back, Joey throws it back to the ECW Arena for this match. Match #1: Tommy Dreamer/The Sandman vs. Sabu/Rob Van Dam Beulah and Fonzie are there again. This is clipped a lot, but there's enough to give them something here. Lots of cool and brutal spots. They target Tommy's heel and ankle again. There's this fantastically brutal spot where RVD holds the ladder up, and Sabu throws Sandman like a lawn dart off the top and into the standing ladder in the middle of the ring. RVD then puts his head in between the rungs of the standing ladder, AND SABU COMES OFF THE TOP WITH A FLYING LEGDROP JESUS CHRIST HE'S DEAD. Sandman is taken away, and Tommy tries to fight, but he gets hurt again. Alfonso gets on the mic and says if Vince McMahon doesn't buy this piece of shit bingo hall company with a small check, he might, because there's nobody who can beat Sabu, AND TAZ COMES OUT! FUCK YEAH! TAZ CLEANS HOUSE. Tommy puts RVD on a table, AND TOMMY AND TAZ HIT THE LE CANNONBALL~! BUT STEVIE HITS TOMMY WITH THE STEVIE KICK OUT OF NOWHERE! AND HE BACKS INTO TAZ. HE'S DEAD, BUT SABU PUTS TAZ IN THE TAZMISSION! STEVIE BAILS AND RVD HITS THE FIVE STAR FROG SPLASH ON TOMMY TO WIN! *** A recap of Mikey's injury airs. ![]() In the back, The Triple Threat cuts a promo and they talk about having all the gold now. Shane says he's dominated this sport and these two men are already the greatest tag team in ECW. They throw up the sign, but Candido yells at Lance Storm when he tries, and says not yet. Match #2: Axl Rotten/Balls Mahoney vs. Bill Wiles/Lou Marconi Squash. They win with the Saving Grace and Nutcracker Suite, followed by murderous chair shots. *1/4 Match #3: Jerry Lynn/Tommy Rogers vs. Little Guido/Tracy Smothers w/ Tommy Rich This was clipped to 5 or so minutes, but looked really fantastic. Awesome FBI stooging, and Lynn and Rogers were game to come back with some cool highspots for once, and the FBI have legit opponents to have more than just a "fun" match with. But again, clipped to shit. Rogers hits Smothers with the Tomikaze for the win, which is just a prototype for the Unprettier. **1/4 Match #4: Taz [c] vs. Tommy Dreamer w/ Beulah [ECW Television Championship] This is not a natural pairing and they have little chemistry, but they try very hard against each other. Taz goes after the ankle when he's in trouble, and Tommy sells it pretty well. Taz hits a T-Bone Suplex through a table on the floor, but when he gets back into the ring, Sabu and Rob Van Dam come out to attack him for the DQ. **1/2 They have Brakkus with them but The Sandman runs out and the show ends with the two teams of three about to fight. |

WRESTLER OF THE YEAR: 1995: The Sandman 1996: Sabu I'll say that 1997 was probably the strong year angle-wise for ECW yet and the year that they finally got their act tigether as an entire promotion. The undercards got a lot better and the shows were much more consistent instead of very top heavy or carried by future cruiserweight guys like they'd been in 1995 and 1996. However, this was kind of a weak year in the ring, No real classic matches, nobody had an absolute killer year like Sabu and Scorpio in 1996 or Dean and Eddie in 1995. This was made clear when fucking D-Von Dudley won Wrestler of the Half-Year by virtue of being on the most shows. This is hardly a huge victory or a blowaway victory, but the ECW 1997 Wrestler of the Year pulls through by virtue of consistency. ![]() 1. SABU - 55 POINTS 2. Tommy Dreamer 50 3. Rob Van Dam 47 4. YEAH!
