ECW World Heavyweight Champion: Shane Douglas, Since 11/30/1997 ECW Television Champion: Taz, Since 6/7/1997 - LONGEST REIGNING CURRENT CHAMPION ECW Tag Team Champions: Chris Candido/Lance Storm, Since 12/6/1997 ECW Hardcore TV January 7th, 1998 Queens, NY In the ring, Joey Styles introduces the show and NYC again chants that Philly sucks dick. Clips air of the following matches from this Queens show: -Sasuke vs. Tiger Mask IV and Joey hypes up a Credible/Sasuke rematch on January 10th. -Candido/Storm vs. Rotten Balls vs. FBI, with Candido and Storm retaining -Jason brings in Nicole Bass and he calls her the sexiest woman on earth. She powerbombs El Puerto Ricano. -An awesome looking Dudleys vs. Spike/New Jack brawl that the Dudz win Match #1: Brakkus w/ Lance Wright vs. Paul Diamond This is a short Brakkus squash. He is AWFUL and Jeff Jones calls for the bell after the Full Nelson. 45/Fart Lance then buries Diamond under the WWF flag, and Taz comes out! Jeff Jones tries to warn him not to come in or he'll...uh...he'll do something bad. Taz gets in and Jeff says he's forcing him to take extreme measures, and he slaps Taz. Oh no. He tries a punch, but Taz destroys him with the T-Bone Suplex. Taz vs. Brakkus almost happens, but RVD and Sabu come out to attack Taz, and Wright and Brakkus leave. The Sandman runs out to save, but Furnas and Lafon are behind him and attack. It turns into a 4 on 2, but Tommy Dreamer and Al Snow come out to save! Al Snow uses Head as a weapon for the first time ever and they clear the ring. THIS SATURDAY NIGHT AT THE ECW ARENA: -THE FINAL SABU/SANDMAN MATCH AT THE ECW ARENA -CREDIBLE/SASUKE II -DUDLEYS VS. NEW JACK, SPIKE, AND KRONUS -RVD VS. BAM BAM BAM Back in the ring, Tommy Dreamer challenges the four heels to an eight man tag tonight. Taz says he's not on anybody's team and says if he wants to be on their team, he'll be here later, and if not, fuck them. What a dick. In the back, Joey Styles announces that the next PPV will be ECW Living Dangerously on March 1st, and it will be from Asbury Park, NJ. A retrospective airs of House Party 1996. Taz winds up showing up for the main event. Match #1: Tommy Dreamer/The Sandman/Taz/Al Snow vs. Sabu/Rob Van Dam/The Can-Am Express Beulah, Head, Wright, and Fonzie are at ringside. This was fun, but I'm growing tired of the ECW main event tag style. Everyone brawls on the floor and they sort of switch who goes in the ring at points and feels very choreographed in that sense. At the same time, everything on the floor is pretty average brawling so as not to detract from the ring, so why even bother doing it? Still though, everyone in this is at least good, so the in-ring stuff that gets 90% of the camera time is always entertaining. Taz goes on the apron for a tag while Sandman is being quadruple teamed and Joey says it's because he's a traditionalist, but then why was he brawling on the floor with everyone else? LOGIC. Anyways, he gets the tag and cleans house, but Brakkus comes back out! They get pulled apart and it goes to the back. Beulah cuts off Fonzie with a DDT, and the Can-Ams go after her. Snow cuts them off with head shots and rolls up Furnas to win. This was pretty terribly laid out, making a big deal about a legal man rule, only to then totally ignore it at the end since Al wasn't legal technically. **1/2 Al Snow celebrates into the crowd to end the show. |

ECW World Heavyweight Champion: Shane Douglas, Since 11/30/1997 ECW Television Champion: Taz, Since 6/7/1997 - LONGEST REIGNING CURRENT CHAMPION ECW Tag Team Champions: Chris Candido/Lance Storm, Since 12/6/1997 ![]() ECW House Party '98 January 10th, 1998 Philadelphia, PA Before the opener, the FBI comes out with a huge bowling trophy, and Tommy Rich says that four weeks ago in Dallas, TX, the three of them beat the Von Erichs for six man titles, and two weeks ago in Atlanta, they beat the Freebirds. The crowd chants "BULLSHIT" and Tommy says they're bullshit. He says the belts are on the way, but they have the trophy in the meantime. Tracy says they beat Krusher, Ivan, and Nikita two nights ago too, and Rich asks what about Dusty and the Road Warriors, and Tracy says he forgot that too, and says nobody can beat them for the titles. Match #1: Tommy Dreamer/Axl Rotten/Balls Mahoney vs. Little Guido/Tracy Smothers/Tommy Rich Usual FBI fun. Some truly fantastic bullshit comedy in the first half, and they do some good stuff in the second half when it becomes a real match. Referee Jeff Jones comes out to interfere for the FBI, but Balls still makes his great hot tag. Beulah hits Jones with a low blow and real referee Jim Molineaux also hits him with a DDT. Tommy DDTs Guido, and Beulah makes the three count for Dreamer and the ref. **1/4 Match #2: Jerry Lynn vs. Chris Candido This was good again, but got cut off when it was getting beyond that. Candido guides Lynn, but Lynn lacks the fire to really be a great underdog babyface, since he's clearly a spot robot. But he does his stuff well and Candido tries his best to make up for the rest with a really good control segment. Lynn trips when he tries a Flipping Senton off the apron into the crowd, and just flops onto the railing and falls over. HILARIOUS. Candido is favoring his arm all match, and Lynn randomly just puts on a Cross Armbreaker to win. Really abrupt. **1/4 Lynn and doctors check on Candido. They put him in an elbow split and he's able to get up. Match #3: Gran Hamada vs. Gran Naniwa FUCK YEAH MORE M-PRO GUYS! These are two of the lesser ones, but it's still good stuff. They do some back and forth stuff, and NANIWA IS HEEL AND SPITS ON STRAW HAT GUY. YEAH. Hamada wins when the ref fucks up a count off a Tornado DDT. Hamada doesn't know it and his a Frankensteiner and refuses to leave until the ref counts three again, since this is the real finish, I guess. **1/4 Match #4: Al Snow w/ Head vs. Roadkill w/ Chastity & Paul Diamond Tons of people in the crowd now have their own heads and it makes for a fantastic entrance. Roadkill is clearly very new and Al Snow is Al Snow, so this is not great even if it is under 5 minutes. Diamond and Chastity both wind up getting the Snow Plow. Snow hits Roadkill with Head and Head covers for the win. 3/4* Snow gets on the mic and says he wants a little head now, so everyone throws the styrofoam heads in the ring. Match #5: Justin Credible w/ Jason & Nicole Bass vs. The Great Sasuke Sasuke carries him again before losing. Fuck this company. Sasuke is mad and starts off hot. He's really fucking great here. Wonderful dives, and then he tortures Credible on the mat with some great stuff. Credible clips the knee and attacks it. Oh my god, he's going to cripple Sasuke too? Fuck this. Sasuke's selling is AMAZING, and Credible beats up his knee with a chair. Sasuke misses a Phoenix Splash though, and Credible hits That's Incredible to win. I hate ECW. **1/2 Jason stomps at his knee in a chair, and Credible tries to unmask Sasuke. Gran Hamada comes out to save, but Credible lays him out too because I have no idea. He does this all to TOTAL SILENCE. Joey tries to claim Hamada is the #2 star of M-PRO, because he's apparently never heard of anyone in Kaientai Deluxe. Match #6: Rob Van Dam w/ Bill Alfonso vs. Bam Bam Bigelow Oh my god, this ruled. RVD was on top of his game and totally insane here. Bigelow did his stuff well and was a great big man, but in spite of the ending booking being about his stuff, this wasn't his match. RVD's throwing out like 3 or 4 equally insane crowd dives, taking huge bumps, etc. Most amazing of which was him flying off the apron into the 3rd or 4th row after Bam Bam ran at him with a chair. Candido comes out and BBB hits him with the Greetings From Asbury Park. Sunny and Francine come out, and he gets them both up, but Shane Douglas then comes out to kick him. Shane lays the belt down and challenges him, but RVD hits a flying kick to the back of the head, and uses the Five Star Frog Splash as a finish for the first time to win. *** Joey Styles is in the ring after the static cut, and he brings out Taz. Joey says he's elevated the TV Title, which is hard not to do when it previous had spent 10 months involved in that neverending Shane Douglas vs. The Pitbulls feud. Lance Wright walks out and Taz dares him to get his cunt ass in the ring. He refuses and Taz says he won't put his hands on him and says to get in here, and calls him a cocksucker. Lance comes in and says his bodyguard is in the back waiting, and he brings out Taz's opponent for tonight, the real best TV Champion ever and the man who broke his neck, FLASH FUNK! FUCK YEAH SCORPIO! Scorpio refuses to be introduced as Flash Funk and Wright is mad. SO SCORPIO HITS HIM! YEAH! Match #7: Taz [c] vs. 2 Cold Scorpio [ECW Television Championship] This was great too! You can almost feel Scorpio getting his groove back as the match goes on. He's a little unsure of his big spots early on, but after a few minutes, it clicks and this is a Scorpio Match, and it rules. It's still not perfect, but he avoids anything annoying or contrived and has some cool stuff, so I can overlook it if it works. Lots of great strikes from Scorpio and throws from Taz. This is the match you'd want them to have for 10-15 minutes. Taz catches Scorpio out of nowhere when he tries the Corkscrew Stinger Splash and gets the Tazmission to win. THIS was the kind of match Taz needs to be having to "elevate" the TV Title. He's had it for 7 months, but it's felt like a bunch of squashes and no-contests against RVD and Dreamer and even the Candido match felt like a foregone conclusion. This felt like he was in actual peril. *** They shake hands post-match. After Taz leaves, Wright brings out Furnas to attack Scorp, but Taz runs back out to save. Brakkus comes out and Taz easily hits a T-Bone Suplex before he rolls out, and Taz and Scorpio stand tall. Taz gets on the mic and says he's never heard of anyone named Flash Funk, but tonight he saw 2 Cold Scorpio, a wrestler, an athlete, and a man he used to admire, and any time he wants to work for a wrestling promotion, he's welcome in his locker room. Taz leaves and Scorpio dances. The Dudley Boyz come out and Bubba takes Straw Hat Fan's hat away and slaps him with it. MY HERO. D-Von gets the mic first and says that #1, SHUT THE FUCK UP. He says he could give a fuck what they say because this is a filthy fucking house. It is now time for Brother Gertner to TESTIFY. He says the Dudley Boyz have beaten the FBI, and The Von Erichs, and The Freebirds, The Russians, all three Moondogs, the Road Warrios and Dusty, thus making The Dudley Boyz the true living Georgia All Star Texas Championship AND WORLD SIX MAN TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS! He is Joel "Harder Than the Tree That Hit Sonny Bono" Gertner and introduces "Purely Sexy" BIG DICK "P.S." DUDLEY first. Then, from the south side of Lake Dudleyville, TX, the ECW Super Cruiserweight Champion, D-Von "Don't Call Me Buddy Jack" Dudley! Lastly, FROM BADSTREET IN DUDLEYVILLE, BUBBA RAY "BAM BAM" DUDLEY! AND BUBBA DOES THE TERRY GORDY ROPE RUNNING! YES! Match #8: The Gangstanators/Spike Dudley vs. The Dudley Boyz/Big Dick Dudley w/ Joel Gertner & Sign Guy Dudley Fun New Jack match. Lots of blood and violence and some cool spots. New Jack gets handcuffed to the top rope about halfway through, so he's a non factor. Spike has a great run of Tornado Bulldogs, but Big Dick won't go down to that, so he throws Spike over the top and through the timekeeper's table instead. Kronus is all alone for a while, and falls to the 3D. **1/4 Match #9: The Sandman vs. Sabu w/ Bill Alfonso [Stairway to Hell Match] So yeah, there's a large strand of barbed wire above the ring, and then it ends by pin or submission anyways. This was fun at points, but this is in no way a natural pairing, for the reasons I've discussed before. They do a crowd brawl when that is neither man's specialty, and it turns into aimless throwing into stuff, and then also drags on too long at 18 minutes when only like half of it was good. Barbed wire use was good stuff, but the ladder spots were all repeats of N2R and the TV match after. Sabu fucks up his jaw again and Fonzie has to tape it up, but Sandman hits a nasty cane shot to win. **1/4 |

Chris Candido/Lance Storm [c] vs. Little Guido/Tracy Smothers [ECW Tag Team Championship], Monaca (January 17th) Fantastic house show match. Candido and Storm work sort of de facto babyface and it's wonderful. Tracy vs. Candido was especially amazing, and all of this was ridiculously fast paced and kind of surprised me with how hard they tried in a gimme defense. Lance had a really good hot tag and Guido took a ridiculous bump to the floor. Tracy gets caught in the corner and Lance and Candido hit him with a Doomsday Device for the win. Fuck it, this was fun enough to go three on it. *** |

ECW World Heavyweight Champion: Shane Douglas, Since 11/30/1997 ECW Television Champion: Taz, Since 6/7/1997 - LONGEST REIGNING CURRENT CHAMPION ECW Tag Team Champions: Chris Candido/Lance Storm, Since 12/6/1997 ECW Hardcore TV January 28th, 1998 Monaca, PA In the ring, Shane Douglas is with Francine and the mic. He says he has an announcement to make and it's not easy. He recaps his injury and says his doctor's advice was that he's done after this surgery he just said, and he went to two other doctors, and they gave him the same advice. He says he's changed his mind back and forth, so he's done. He's done listening to fucking doctors, because he WILL NOT retire ever, and you'll have to carry him out in a box to take his title. In the back, Bam Bam Bigelow goes up to Joey Styles and says he never gets to finish his work. He asks Joey if he's heard the rumor that this new Triple Threat will officially form this Saturday in Philadelphia, and Joey says that's the rumor. Bigelow says he needs a partner then, someone with balls and guts, before he says he's going to break the Triple Threat's arms and legs. In the back, Bam Bam walks through the locker room to find a partner. Al Snow is crazy again. He finally finds Taz and singles him out and says he wants his help. He says he needs someone to help him get rid of the Triple Threat for good, and tells Taz to put his ego aside and do the right thing. Taz says nobody tells him what to do and goes back into his own locker room. Bigelow yells at him to do the right thing and walks away. Match #1: Taz [c] vs. Big Dick Dudley w/ The Dudley Boyz [ECW Television Championship] Taz gets a German Suplex and the Tazmission to win in under a minute. 1/4* The Dudley Boyz attack post-match, but Taz drives them off. Taz gets on the mic and says nobody singles him out, he singles YOU out, because he's Taz. BEAT HIM IF YOU CAN, SURVIVE IF I LET YOU. In the back, Joey interprets Taz and says it's Bigelow & Taz vs. Shane & Candido & Storm, and then shows clips from Shane vs. Taz from 1997. Match #2: Al Snow vs. Paul Diamond Head and Chastity are at ringside. This was useless again, and a Snow showcase for way too long. He wins with the Snow Plow after using Head. * PULP FICTION: -RVD is at a gym and explains the Van Dam lift, which is when he does a split on benches and lifts a dumbbell and says he's going to set the world record -The Triple Threat speaks. Shane says Bam Bam got to walk out of the Triple Threat because Rick Rude stooged off that he was about to be kicked out, because he cared more about himself than the group. -Al Snow is hanging upside down and says all he needed was a little head to turn his life around -RVD does the Van Dam Lift of 166.5 pounds. He gets down and says he never claimed to be the showstopper. He's Rob Van Dam, he IS the fucking show. -Back with T3, Shane says everything about this group is a damn shoot. SO YOU'RE ALL BEST FRIENDS AND FRANCINE IS YOUR GIRLFRIEND? SHUT THE FUCK UP. STOP BEING AWFUL. He says every week they try to copy ECW and he IS the Franchise and he took ECW to this level. None of this is a fucking shoot, you god damned moron. Shane says they will raise the three fingers on January 31st, and Candido says Lance deserves it. -Taz and Bam Bam argue outside the building as Bam Bam still tries to sell Taz on being his partner by saying he can prove he's the best champion in ECW by beating Shane Douglas. But then they'd already been announced as partners earlier, so this makes no sense. Taz says he doesn't have to prove anything and Bam Bam asks again. Taz says yes, and says he'll do it if Bam Bam agrees to a TV Title match at a later date. Bam Bam says fine and asks if he'll be his partner, but Taz says he's gonna be his savior. An Al Snow music video ends the show. I do not understand this push. |

ECW World Heavyweight Champion: Shane Douglas, Since 11/30/1997 ECW Television Champion: Taz, Since 6/7/1997 - LONGEST REIGNING CURRENT CHAMPION ECW Tag Team Champions: Chris Candido/Lance Storm, Since 12/6/1997 ECW Hardcore TV February 4th, 1998 Philadelphia, PA The ending of RVD/BBB from House Party opens the show. Clips then air of all the Taz/BBB segments from last week, leading to Bigelow and Taz teaming up. In the ring, Joey Styles introduces the show and says he's going to ring announce this historic match up with all four World Champions. I would like to see these overseas TV and Tag Title defenses. I was brought up by ROH, so I believe a title doesn't get that tag until it gets defended off of US soil. Anyways, The Triple Threat interrupts and the match is on! Match #1: Taz/Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Shane Douglas/Chris Candido/Lance Storm w/ Francine This is more of an angle, but the 3 or 4 minutes that this existed as an actual match was fantastic. You only get Bigelow vs. Lance and Taz vs. everyone, but those are great. Lance almost dies several times on bumps, and Taz cleans house on all three T3 members. He suplexes Shane over the top to Candido, and then brings in the TV Title to hold up. BUT BAM BAM TAKES IT FROM HIM AND HITS TAZ WITH IT! YEAH! That ends the match, really. *3/4 Candido and Douglas join in, and Lance is confused. Francine gets in and holds up the Triple Threat sign. Shane and Candido do it too, so Lance Storm finally holds it up without anyone yelling at him, BUT CANDIDO HITS HIM WITH THE TAG TITLE BELT. CANDIDO HITS A PILEDRIVER ON THE BELT! Taz tries to get at Bigelow, but Douglas and Candido pull him off and beat him up. They hold him for Bam Bam to hit him with the TV Title again, and all three hold up the Triple Threat sign. After the break, Lance Storm is stretchered out. CYBERSLAM '98 - FEBRUARY 21ST AT THE ECW ARENA! In the back, Joey keeps talking about the turn and almost guarantees that it will be Taz vs. Bigelow at Living Dangerously on March 1st. Match #2: Justin Credible w/ Jason vs. Gran Hamada Hamada comes in upset after House Party, so that added a lot to this. Once again, Credible is entirely passive even in his own big push. He doesn't do anything that really stands out, good or bad, so I can't really hate on him. Same idea as Sasuke with the knee work, but Hamada is not as great as selling it as Sasuke was. Credible pulls out a Sasuke match and puts it on before winning with That's Incredible! I can't wait for the payoff where Sasuke beats Credible! ** In the back, The Triple Threat cuts a promo and Shane talks about the old days of wrestling when the tough guys drove up and down the roads. He says there was always some guy in another town who thought he was tougher than the tough guy and he got his ass kicked good. They called them marks and suckers, and ECW thrives because the fans are all suckers and marks. He says HE made the TV title great, and hey, nah. He calls Taz a mark and he is not tougher than the tough guy, Bam Bam Bigelow. Candido yells that Storm wanted his glory and his girl and calls him a Canadian mark, and Shane says he's the one who told him he was trying to do that, and thank god he listened to him. Shane keeps using the word mark and this is incredibly fucking stupid. He says the Triple Threat is together again. HEY, MAYBE DON'T WASTE FOUR MINUTES COMPLAINING ABOUT MARKS AND ACTUALLY EXPLAIN WHY BIGELOW IS BACK IN THE GROUP SUDDENLY NOW?! |

ECW World Heavyweight Champion: Shane Douglas, Since 11/30/1997 ECW Television Champion: Taz, Since 6/7/1997 - LONGEST REIGNING CURRENT CHAMPION ECW Tag Team Champions: Chris Candido/Lance Storm, Since 12/6/1997 ECW Hardcore TV February 11th, 1998 Philadelphia, PA In a pretape, Taz speaks. He thanks Bam Bam for opening his eyes. He says he was getting soft, and becoming like everyone else in ECW, a team player. A company guy. He thanks him for smartening him up and kicking his ass, but he had to do it with his back turned. He mockingly says Bigelow is bad alright, and says Asbury Park is full of people who still believe in him. He's a superstar hanging with football players, but he's busting his ass in the gym at 5 in the morning. He tells him to get ready for March 1st, because he's never met anybody like him. He says he and Shane were pretty smart, trading that title back and forth, and they realized that the TV Title was the only belt that meant anything, and that's why they want it now. He says he elevated this, not that yellow bitch, because while Shane made fun of a cripple, he defended it every week. He says he won't send Candido, he beat him too many times, and he won't send himself because he's scared, so he sends the Beast. He says to bring him, because he's Taz. BEAT HIM IF YOU CAN, SURVIVE IF HE LETS YOU. Clips air again of the double turn from last wek. In the back, Joey announces that at Living Dangerously, it will be Candido and a dream partner vs. Lance Storm and a dream partner. He then gives the hard sell and yells at Philadelphia fans to stop being sissies and go up to Asbury Park for the PPV. Match #1: Sabu/Rob Van Dam w/ Bill Alfonso vs. Axl Rotten/Balls Mahoney Fun showcase for Sabu and RVD. Axl and Balls do well and there's some cool spots for 7 or so minutes. RVD hits Axl with the Van Daminator after Sabu holds his leg, and they have Balls all alone. RVD and Sabu hit the Total Elimination, but that brings out John Kronus for the DQ. **1/2 Kronus runs them off, and RVD does an AMAZING Saturn impression into the camera, yelling "TOTAL VAN DAM-INATION! TOTAL VAN DAM-INATION! DOC AND GORDY! DOC AND GORDY! DOC AND GORDY!" Match #2: Al Snow vs. Doug Furnas w/ Lance Wright Headamania is at the point where this is called Head TV and there's a Head TV logo in the corner, but it's still Al Snow. Furnas can't do it anymore, so this is a lot of shitty offense before Al comes back. He uses a Head shot for the win. *1/2 Al hits Lance Wright with the Snow Plow after the match. The Dudley Boyz are supposed to fight Tommy Dreamer and The Sandman in the main event, but The Sandman gets on the mic before the bell. He says there's a lot of wrestlers in the back and some of them may hate each other, but he's always thought of them like a family. So when one member of the family's hurting, they all are, and reveals that Tommy Dreamer recently lost his grandfather, who gave him the money to go to wrestling school so he could be here tonight. They have a 10 bell salute and moment of silence and the Dudleys take their hats off. AAAAAAAAAAAAAND JUSTIN CREDIBLE COMES OUT FOR THIS INCREDIBLY FORCED PUSH TO GO INTO ANOTHER GEAR. He says he's here to offer his condolences too, and he's sorry that it wasn't Tommy that died instead of his piece of shit grandpa, and Tommy attacks him and they fight. They get pulled apart and oh my god, why? |

ECW World Heavyweight Champion: Shane Douglas, Since 11/30/1997 ECW Television Champion: Taz, Since 6/7/1997 - LONGEST REIGNING CURRENT CHAMPION ECW Tag Team Champions: Chris Candido/Lance Storm, Since 12/6/1997 ECW Hardcore TV February 18th, 1998 Philadelphia, PA/Florida The Dreamer/Credible angle airs again to open the show, and in the back, Joey announces Dreamer vs. Credible for Living Dangerously. Back in the ring after Credible has been taken away, the scheduled match is supposed to happen, and Bubba even says Credible is a worthless piece of garbage. That said and done, they came here to fucking fight. Match #1: Rob Van Dam/Sabu vs. The Dudley Boyz vs. Tommy Dreamer/The Sandman vs. The Gangstnators This starts off as Dudleys vs. Sandman/Tommy, but morphs into another match because it's ECW and the referees are incredibly inconsistent with what is actually allowed. Fun stuff early on. Sandman and Bubba do normal wrestling moves as comedy, and then it breaks down. It's not their best, but this is apparently a big series that happens, so I'll expect more to come. Big Dick hits a Chokeslam, AND NEW JACK AND KRONUS COME OUT! AND BEFORE BRAWLING, NEW JACK DOES ARM DRAGS TO TOMMY! They clip this part a lot, but Kronus hits a Splash through a table on D-Von, and he does Sabu's taunt to bring out Sabu and RVD. It's again clipped, but is a TON of fun. BUBBA HITS A RUNNING PLANCHA TO A GROUP OF PEOPLE! They hit Kronus and New Jack with a Stereo Flying Legdrop through a table, and D-Von covers Kronus to get rid of him. The Dudleys and RVD/Sabu then punch each other, and Tommy and Sandman get stereo Schoolboys to eliminate the Dudleys. ANOTHER CLIP JOB. YOU HAVE AN HOUR TO PLAY WITH! USE IT! They cut to the finishing part of the final two, and Justin Credible cheap shots Mikey Whipwreck on the stage as he was watching. He calls out Tommy and Tommy goes to fight him. They get pulled apart again, and Sandman is all alone, and gets beat after the Five Star Frog Splash, followed by the Arabian Facebuster. This had so much potential if it was aired in full. *** In a pretape, Beulah talks. She congratulates Justin Credible on making himself a big star now, and asks where he goes now. He says it all comes with a price, and Tommy Dreamer worked his way up honestly and paid a heavy heavy price, but it's nothing compared to the price he'll pay. Clips air of bad things happening to Tommy Dreamer, set to an Alice in Chains song I can't quite place. CYBERSLAM: -TOMMY VS. CREDIBLE IN A FIRST BLOOD MATCH -TAZ VS. BRAKKUS FOR THE TV TITLE -LANCE VS. CANDIDO -SABU/RVD VS. SHANE/BBB It is supposed to be Tommy & Rotten Balls vs. RVD, Sabu, & Brakkus from Florida, but before the bell, Jason comes out. He asks for a chance to talk, and says he wants to apologize for the things Justin Credible said and did last week. Tommy seems to accept it, but Justin Credible comes from the entrance and challenges him to come get him. Tommy chases him through the back and out the front door, and Credible jumps into a waiting car and drives away, so this is now a tag match. Match #2: Axl Rotten/Balls Mahoney vs. Rob Van Dam/Sabu w/ Bill Alfonso, Brakkus & Lance Wright Another really fun RVD/Sabu showcase against this team. This one was just a little bit better though, due to RVD being insane on his bumps and extra crisp with his kicks and offense tonight. It also lacked a real finish though, as Brakkus got in. He hit Axl with a hideously bad Running Powerslam, and then hits one on Balls through a table. RVD and Sabu hit the Rolling Splash/Slingshot Legdrop combo on Balls to win. **1/2 Brakkus does Taz's pose in the ring. In a pretape, Taz cuts a promo about Lance sending his suck boy after him in Philly. He says nobody is distracting him from Bam Bam Bigelow, so this match isn't gonna be long. He says he's gonna stretch him, drop him on his head, and make him tap out. Because firstly, he's that good, and secondly, he doesn't like that he never paid his dues. It took him 11 years to make six figures a year, but he gets it automatically. Not even to wrestle, but just to train with the WWF, because he's a body. WEIGHTS DON'T FIGHT BACK, BUT TAZ DOES. BEAT HIM IF YOU CAN. SURVIVE IF HE LETS YOU. In the back, The Triple Threat comes over. Candido flips out over this dream tag team match and how Lance Storm kept lusting after his girl. He tells Lance to get whoever he wants, because he'll get the best partner and they'll destroy them. He says he doesn't have to wait until March 1st to pick his partner. In a pretape, Al Snow and Head are at the beach. Al Snow is buried up to his head next to Head and argues with Head about how it used all the sunblock, and is stuck in the sand. He says he thought Vince burying him was bad and demands to be let out. Back in the back, The Triple Threat is still there and Shane Douglas finally says something correct and says this Al Snow joke has gone on long enough, and the only Head in ECW is the Head Cheerleader, and she earned that name the old fashioned way. Francine then wipes off the corners of her mouth because of crusty semen. Candido walks on on the phone with Sunny and yells incoherently about something. Coming back, Candido chooses Shane Douglas as his partner and throws it to video. A severe clipjob airs of Shane Douglas vs. Chris Chetti from Florida. Probably better than a real match would have been, and Shane obviously wins. Taz comes out to clean house on the Triple Threat, but the video stops when he puts Bigelow in the Tazmission as Bam Bam yells at Joey to cut it off. In the back, Bigelow if he has to kill Taz to stop him from putting that hold on, then he'll do it on March 1st. |

ECW World Heavyweight Champion: Shane Douglas, Since 11/30/1997 ECW Television Champion: Taz, Since 6/7/1997 - LONGEST REIGNING CURRENT CHAMPION ECW Tag Team Champions: Chris Candido/Lance Storm, Since 12/6/1997 ![]() ECW CyberSlam 1998 February 21st, 1998 Philadelphia, PA A 10 bell salute to Louie Spicolli opens the show. Now I actually miss him because he ruled in 96-97. Match #1: Jerry Lynn vs. Danny Doring w/ Roadkill I think this is the first Doring match I've ever seen. He is clearly still new as he does all basic stuff and this is a Lynn showcase. He does well with his late 90s cruiserweight offense, and he wins with the Sunset Flip Powerbomb. *3/4 Match #2: Al Snow vs. Tracy Smothers w/ The FBI Headamania continues to grow. This gets 20+ minutes, which is so insane. Not in a good way because HOLY SHIT GUYS, IT'S AL SNOW. That being said, a good half of this is Tracy Smothers stalling, so I take everything back. I would watch 22 whole minutes of this. They get going after that, and it's whatever. Some kind of a fire breaks out since more smoke keeps clouding the arena. Love that they didn't even try to clear the building. Anyways, it gets boring when the FBI controls for WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too long, and there's a ref bump. This brings out Jeff Jones, and Snow comes back with Head shots to everyone. He hits Snow Plows too and comes off the top with Head to the dick on Tracy to finally end this fucking match. *3/4 Match #3: Chris Chetti vs. Doug Furnas w/ Lance Wright This is at least short. Furnas throws the kid around for a while before he gets hit with a DDT and the Double Jump Moonsault, AND CHETTI WINS AWFUL. WHY?! ** In the ring Joey Styles welcomes us to an episode of TV. Joey goes over the Candido/Storm situation and how Candido has chosen Shane Douglas as his partner. Joey says Lance is keeping his partner a secret and brings out The Triple Threat, now with Sunny! SUP SUNNY. Shane says three weeks ago, two punks got the rug pulled out from under them, a punk who thought he would raise three fingers with the Triple Threat, and a man who thought his belt meant more than his and was dead wrong. Shane says there's a mystery that needs to be solved, and the crowd steals it with a "FRANCINE WILL SUCK DICK FOR CRACK, DOO DAH DOO DAH!" singing chant. Shane demands to know who Lance is bringing, but Candido says it's not a problem. Sunny says she knows who it is, so Candido asks, but she says she's not telling. What a cunt. He asks why she'd even say anything then and she says a mystery should remain that way, and she has secrets that would blow his mind. Candido is mad and doesn't let her leave, so she slaps him. Bam Bam holds Candido back and then Francine and Sunny almost fight, so Bam Bam carries Sunny off to the back. I no longer have faith that things in ECW go somewhere, so I have no idea what this accomplished. Match #4: Chris Candido vs. Lance Storm LANCE CUT OFF THE RAT TAIL! YEAH! Now I can cheer for him. It helps that he comes in angry here like he should. This didn't have a ton of selling or story, but it was two good wrestlers doing offense for 9 minutes, and on the sliding scale of ECW ratings, it's enough that it didn't overstay its welcome and most everything was crisp and clean. Lance surprisingly pulls off the win, using Candido's own Blonde Bombshell on him. *** Match #5: Taz [c] vs. Brakkus w/ Lance Wright [ECW Television Championship] This was at least short at something like two and a half minutes. But yeah, Brakkus is AWFUL, so Taz basically runs through him. He did take some nice bumps for a really shitty wrestler, and Taz makes him tap out to the Tazmission. *1/2 Match #6: Tommy Dreamer vs. Justin Credible [First Blood Match] Beulah, Nicole Bass, and Jason are on the floor. This was pretty good. I enjoyed that they actually attempted to bust each other open. This stipulation never leads to a great match ever or really works well, but the effort is appreciated. There's a ref bump and Tommy gets out barbed wire. BUT RVD COMES OUT AND ATTACKS TOMMY WITH IT! I guess that feud's still going on then? Okay. I know they'd been in matches together sort of just because, but this heats it up a lot. Tommy gets the strand of barbed wire wrapped around his head and RVD leaves. Credible drives it in more with a trash can shot, and Tommy is busted open. Beulah gets in and gets That's Incredible, because maybe THAT will be the dastardly heel tactic to finally get him over. Tommy attacks Credible with the wire, but the ref sees his cut when he gets up and calls it. **1/2 Tommy busts Jason open with it and also chokes him with the barbed wire. IT'S THE RETURN OF PRE-DUDLEYS MATCH JOEL GERTNER MIC TIME! FINALLY! D-Von gets the mic first, and changes it up with "Number one, FUCK PHILLY." FUCK YEAH D-VON! TELL THEM! He says they're STILL the best tag team in the world and without any further delay, it is now time for Brother Gertner to TESTIFY. Joel says that in preperation for Living Dangerously, The Dudley Boyz have just returned from Nagano, Japan and are now not only the World Intercontinental United States TV and Western States Heritage BUT ALSO THE OLYMPIC GOLD MEDAL WINNING SIX MAN ICE WRESTLING TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS OF THE WORLD. Don't adjust those 13 inch rental black and white televisions, he is the man with the golden voice and the velvet tongue, The Quintessential Studmuffin, Joel "I Deliver More Package Than UPS" Gertner! Match #7: The Sandman/Axl Rotten/Balls Mahoney vs. The Gangstanators/Spike Dudley vs. The Dudley Boyz/Big Dick Dudley w/ Joel Gertner & Sign Guy Dudley [Three Way Dance] New Jack's team doesn't come out for like 8 minutes, since this starts as a normal trios match. ECW is experimenting with this idea that they can just change matches around mid-match, but the mutants love it, so I guess it's working. This is the match you'd expect with all these guys, it's pretty entertaining. There was a particularly great Axl/Bubba exchange in the middle of all the chaos. Axl eliminates Spike with the Reverse Brainbuster. The 3D is blocked with a series of counters and Sandman hot shots Bubba into a chair held by Balls and pins him to win. **1/2 Match #8: Rob Van Dam/Sabu vs. Shane Douglas/Bam Bam Bigelow Fonzie and Francine are on the floor. This was a MESS. Nothing really worked well for them and instead of deciding on a situational face or heel like the AMAZING RVD/Sabu vs. Shane/Candido house show tag in October, they just worked it like a normal match without anything like that involved. So the first like half of this is Shane as FIP, but it fails completely BECAUSE HE'S THE TOP HEEL AND WILL GET NO FUCKING SYMPATHY. When it breaks down, it does so horribly with almost every big spot going wrong in some way or another. It also drags on forever since they gave it 23 minutes, before Bigelow finally beats RVD with the Greetings From Asbury Park. ** |

ECW World Heavyweight Champion: Shane Douglas, Since 11/30/1997 ECW Television Champion: Taz, Since 6/7/1997 - LONGEST REIGNING CURRENT CHAMPION ECW Tag Team Champions: Chris Candido/Lance Storm, Since 12/6/1997 ECW Hardcore TV February 25th, 1998 Philadelphia, PA The 10 bell salute to Louie Spicolli opens the show. After that, the Triple Threat interview segment airs. Then Taz vs. Brakkus! A recap of Dreamer/Credible airs with photos instead of videos. A pretape airs and Tommy Dreamer is in total darkness but lights one candle. He says they make their own decisions in life, and Beulah makes her own decisions, so he supports them. He says Justin wanted to be a star, A1, the Duke of New York. He says to step in the ring with him this Sunday night, and he'll make him famous. He says Beulah saw his dark side three years ago when she got a Piledriver, but this Sunday night, she'll see it again when she stands in the corner of. Then the candle goes out, and it gets lit again. Justin Credible is standing there and says she'll be in the corner of Justin Credible. Wait, what? That was not well done at all. In the back, Joey also announces RVD/Scorpio and The Sandman/Sabu in a Dueling Canes match for Living Dangerously. He then says Masato Tanaka vs. W*ING Kanemura will be imported from Japan for the PPV as well. Lance vs. Candido airs. In a pretape from the hood, New Jack cuts a promo. He says this Sunday night, he's gonna be on PPV. He says hears the latest thing is criminals on PPV, but unlike Tyson, he'll say he did it. And a lot of times, got away with it. He's bringing his style of violence to PPV, hood style. Gangsta style. And when it's done, you'll all know that New Jack was cut loose and somebody's going down. He says he's the most violent and dangerous man you'll ever meet, because he ain't gonna bother to deny it. A recap of all the Taz/BBB angles and interviews airs to go home. |

ECW World Heavyweight Champion: Shane Douglas, Since 11/30/1997 ECW Television Champion: Taz, Since 6/7/1997 - LONGEST REIGNING CURRENT CHAMPION ECW Tag Team Champions: Chris Candido/Lance Storm, Since 12/6/1997 ![]() ECW LIVING DANGEROUSLY 1998 MARCH 1ST, 1998 ASBURY PARK, NJ The show opens with video of last night, as Taz goes into the empty arena and looks around. He says he's ready. Match #1: Jerry Lynn/Chris Chetti vs. Little Guido/Tracy Smothers w/ Tommy Rich This is you FBI opening match. Not one of the better ones, but it wasn't at all bad. The match just kind of happened. Chetti worked most of this, which is probably why I feel that way. The Lynn hot tag was good, and I'd like to see him fight the FBI with a partner who isn't a worthless sack of shit. Rich accidentally clotheslines Tracy and Lynn gets a Jackknife Pin to win. **1/4 Tommy Rich and Tracy Smothers shove each other after the match. Joey throws it to a video package to hype up Tanaka/Kanemura, but says Kanemura hasn't been seen all day. Instead, Doug Furnas and Lance Wright come out. Wright says he and his friend, Mr. Vince McMahon, have had Kanemura's contract bought out, so that his associate Doug Furnas could have this match instead. Match #2: Masato Tanaka vs. Doug Furnas w/ Lance Wright They did some fun spots for 5 minutes, which is as long as this went, but then there were also some BAD miscommunications. Like, the kind that blatantly expose the fakeness of everything. Furnas failed to cooperate more than Tanaka did, since this is basically the end of him as a wrestler in any mainstream promotion, I believe. Wright keeps demanding Furnas does more offense when he could win, and it costs him when Tanaka hits a Rolling Elbow to win. **1/4 Wright gets in when Furnas is getting up and he yells at him. He says he's a WWF Superstar and he and McMahon own him. He says he's that close to being a winner, but if he keeps this up, he will never work on Monday Night Raw again. Furnas clotheslines him down and tells him to tell Vince to kiss his ass. He puts on an ECW shirt, and his career dies. LOLOLOLOLOLOL. ECW WRESTLEPALOOZA 1998 ON PPV: MAY 3RD, 1998! In the back, Joey Styles apologizes and says they taped The Sandman vs. Sabu in a Dueling Canes match for tonight before the PPV went on the air, but PPV companies won't allow them to show it because of the graphic nature of the match, since they're already mad at them for how violent their N2R match was. He says they'll release it on home video and air as much of it on TV as they'll allow, but then hypes up the rest of the PPV. Jason and Nicole Bass come over and demand that a tape is played. Footage airs of Tommy Dreamer arriving to the arena earlier by himself, and Jason says Beulah left Tommy to come with them. Match #3: Rob Van Dam w/ Bill Alfonso vs. 2 Cold Scorpio This was really good, but it had flaws. I think it went on too long, and the finish kind of sucked. But it's still peak RVD and Scorpio running through spots for 20 minutes. When I say it went on too long, there was no obvious tipping point where everything after it was unnecessary, but a general feel at some points that they were filling time. The good stuff was really fucking good. No real story obviously, it's RVD and Scorpio, but they traded wonderful offense. Sabu interferes but The Sandman runs out and chases him to the back. RVD then counters something into a Prawn Hold for the win. Really lame finish. I'm not opposed to roll ups, I love them, but when your match is all about offense and a total offensive display in a "top this" manner, you make people expect a huge finish, not something like that. *** RVD says this was a great experience for both of them, OBVIOUSLY a better experience for him. He says he didn't beat him, but he'll let him shake his hand. Scorpio is mad but goes for it, so RVD pulls his hand away. Scorpio gets the mic and says he's more of a man than he'll ever be, and he might have been better tonight, so he'll shake his hand even if he won't shake his. He offers a handshake, and since Scorpio is putting him over, RVD goes for it. Scorpio then clotheslines him, but Sabu runs out. They beat up Scorpio and put a table in the ring, BUT THE SANDMAN RUNS OUT TO SAVE AGAIN! YEAH! SANDMAN PUTS SABU THROUGH THE EDGE OF THE TABLE WITH A FRANKENSTEINER! SANDMAN AND SCORPIO ARE REUNITED AND DRINK! FUCK YEAH! A recap airs of the Storm/Candido issue. Before the next match, Joel Gertner gets on the mic and says hello to the welfare recipients and homeless vagabonds of Asbury Park, NJ. He is The Quintessential Studmuffin and a damn handsome man, the man whose wit is more tongue-in-cheek than a lesbian orgy, Joel "Your Girlfriend Has Me On Her Speed Dial, Because She Loves The Way I *69 Her" Gertner. He then basically repeats the amazing intro from CyberSlam. Match #4: New Jack/Spike Dudley vs. Axl Rotten/Balls Mahoney vs. The Dudley Boyz w/ Joel Gertner, Big Dick Dudley, & Sign Guy Dudley [Three Way Dance] This time, New Jack and Spike at least show up fairly soon, only two or three into this. This is your New Jack match, you know what this gets you. It's the best one since N2R though, so I guess that means they really turn it on for PPV, which makes sense. New Jack drags Spike up to the balcony with him, and they both do the biggest balcony dive yet. Back in the ring, Axl gets beaten with the 3D, and shortly after, Spike and Jack hit the DOUBLE EL KABONG~! YEAH! D-Von then gets the Acid Drop followed by the 187 for the win. **1/2 Joey shows clips of the Dreamer/Credible feud. This has all come way too fast. Jenna Jameson is introduced as ECW's new interviewer and she brings out Justin Credible for her first interview. The pops for her appearance go IMMEDIATELY silent. AMAZING. Credible says he'd normally give her the time of the day, but he has Beulah on his jock now, so he doesn't need her. She says she's going to interview someone better, and Tommy Dreamer comes out and kisses her. Match #5: Tommy Dreamer vs. Justin Credible w/ Jason & Nicole Bass This happened. Credible at least tries to justify one of the most forced pushes of all time with some insane bumps, but they hardly go out of their way to put on anything special here. And honestly, I'm happy. Justin Credible doesn't deserve it yet/ever. Beulah comes out but low blows Credible. She DDTs Jason, but Bass shakes her around like the low rent Chyna that she is. Mikey comes out to hit her with a crutch and the Whippersnapper. Credible then hits Mikey with the crutch, but Tommy ducks a shot and hits a DDT to win. **1/4 A video airs to hype up Taz/Bam Bam. Match #6: Taz [c] vs. Bam Bam Bigelow [ECW Television Championship] So hey, this was fucking great. It took some time to get going, but once they did, it was basically perfect for a first match. This feel like the first time Bam Bam Bigelow has used his full potential in ECW. I think he was a guy who had such an incredible well of raw talent that he could coast on not using all of it and it's disappointing to see, but the times when he does tap into that (Bret Hart at KOTR, the Taz series, vs. Lawler in Memphis), he comes off like one of the best big men ever. He takes some great bumps, both on basic stuff and then on A FUCKING T-BONE SUPLEX OFF THE RAMP AND ONTO THE CONCRETE FLOOR WHAT THE FUCK?! They do a great job selling the cumulative effects of the match by the end also. Taz gets the Tazmission on in the ring and Bam Bam taps with Taz on his back, but the ref is trying to get them out of the ropes and misses it. BAM BAM JUMPS BACKWARDS AND THEY FALL THROUGH THE RING JEEEEEEEEEEEESUS CHRIST. THEY'RE DEAD PROBABLY. After about a minute, Bam Bam gets out, and he pulls Taz out and covers to win the title! It's scary to think that as good as this was, they were clearly saving stuff for a rematch too. ***1/2 In the back, Paul yells at Joey that Snow vs. Kronus is cancelled, and says to go to Sabu/Sandman. Joey says they can't show that, but Paul yells at him to show it and to buy him some time here, so they throw it to that. Match #7: The Sandman vs. Sabu w/ Bill Alfonso [Dueling Canes Match] RVD comes out dressed as Sabu and Sandman beats on him first, BUT THE REAL SABU COMES OUT TO ATTACK FROM BEHIND! AWESOME! Fonzie sends him to the back, and the match happens. These two aren't capable of a great match together as I've discussed at length, but this is an entertaining 10 minutes. They barely use the canes though, so that's hilarious. RVD comes back out and they hit the Double Flying Legdrop through the table on the elevated ramp to win. **1/2 In the back, Joey freaks out and yells at Paul for airing the match, but it was actually their least violent match yet. If their aim was to make out the censors to be fucking clueless morons, then they did an awesome job here. The corner of the ring with the hole in it has now been taped off with caution tape. Shane Douglas, Francine, and Chris Candido come out to the ring for the main event. Shane asks for the music to be stopped and Candido asks Lance who his mystery partner can be. He says he's got the World Champion, and whoever Lance has, he's going to take him out. Lance Storm comes out and has Sunny with him! She says SHE'S THE MYSTERY PARTNER BAH GAWD! Well, okay. I mean, that's horrible, but there's some basis in logic since Candido won't hit her or let Shane do it. But then on the other hand, Lance is in a handicap match. Match #8: Lance Storm/Sunny vs. Chris Candido/Shane Douglas w/ Francine This is a thing for a few minutes, and Sunny gets in. She gets a cookie sheet, and hits Lance with it in a pretty obvious turn. They all beat on Lance, and Sunny and Francine hug to ignite 10,000 boners. Shane holds Lance up and Candido taunts him and asks where his mystery man is and asks what he's going to give him, Lance yells "I'M GONNA GIVE YOU HEAD!" Thankfully instead of the PPV actually ending with Lance Storm sucking Chris Candido's dick, Al Snow comes out. First time I've ever started a sentence with "Thankfully" and ended it with "Al Snow comes out." So Al is the real partner and he does stuff. Lance hits a cool dive and that is the only part of this match. They film parts of the match upside down, which is cool in Al's entrance, but awful in a real match. Al then beats Shane with the Snow Plow. Awful. 3/4* The Triple Threat loses their mind in the ring and the fans shower the ring with the styrofoam heads to end the show. |

ECW World Heavyweight Champion: Shane Douglas, Since 11/30/1997 - LONGEST REIGNING CURRENT CHAMPION ECW Television Champion: Bam Bam Bigelow, Since 3/1/1998 ECW Tag Team Champions: Chris Candido/Lance Storm, Since 12/6/1997 ECW Hardcore TV March 4th, 1998 Asbury Park, NJ In the back, Joey Styles announces that Wrestlepalooza 98 will be from Marietta, GA at the Cobb County Civic Center. Hope nobody gets thrown in jail there. A video airs of the Credible/Tommy feud airs. A recap of their PPV match then airs. The Sandman vs. Sabu is shown in full. A recap of RVD/Scorpio airs. Then a recap of Taz/Bigelow. The pre-match for the Triple Threat vs. Snowstorm airs, followed by a recap of the match that's probably just as long as the actual match. Paul says Al Snow is now the #1 Contender for the ECW Title. Excerpts from an interview with Paul Heyman air, with him saying the ECW Tag Titles will not be vacated, and Candido and Storm will defend their titles until a better team can beat them, and if either of them double cross the other, they will be fired. In the back, The Triple Threat cuts a promo. Shane says in this historic segment, they will do something that they don't often do, they're going to apologize. Shane says he's sorry to Taz because for weeks, he's told himself and the people that the TV Title meant as much as as the ECW World title, and he couldn't grasp the concept. He got it by Living Dangerously though, and he was about to walk up to him and say they're on the same level, but unfortunately, he couldn't hold up his end of the bargain and the Beast from the East is the champion now. He then shakes Bam Bam's hand and says they're World Champions, and shakes Candido's hand and says they're all the same. Shane says onto Al Snow, this promotion was meant to be a pedestal for him, not a showcase for stupid gimmicks, and now Al Snow is in no man's land. Shane challenges Al Snow to take his challenge and bring the Head, and he has to know who the best is. He says they make Lance Storm great just by hanging on like a dingleberry, and Candido says he can carry both belts by himself, he's done it before. Shane says nobody beats them, because they're the Triple Threat. Least offensive Shane promo in a while! |

ECW World Heavyweight Champion: Shane Douglas, Since 11/30/1997 - LONGEST REIGNING CURRENT CHAMPION ECW Television Champion: Bam Bam Bigelow, Since 3/1/1998 ECW Tag Team Champions: Chris Candido/Lance Storm, Since 12/6/1997 ECW Hardcore TV Match 11th, 1998 Waltham, MA In the back, Jenna Jameson says she wants to give you head, but then holds up the styrofoam Head, and it cuts to another Al Snow music video. I have to keep telling myself that he's gone in two months. When people say ECW didn't age very well, I can understand a lot of it with all the smoke and mirrors stuff in 95-96, but this is perhaps the most egregious example. IT'S FUCKING AL SNOW GUYS. In the back, Joey officially announces Shane Douglas vs. Al Snow for the title at the main event of Wrestlepalooza 98. Storm and Candido come out to defend the tag titles, and they come out to "Thunderstruck" as Lance Storm's music, but Candido goes to the sound guy. He yells at him and leaves, and "Back in Black" plays instead, so Candido then finally comes out to his own music. Fantastic. Match #1: Chris Candido/Lance Storm [c] vs. Little Guido/Tracy Smothers w/ Tommy Rich [ECW Tag Team Championship] SWEET! A REMATCH! This is a lot of the same great work as the January match, but they change up a ton of the counters and sequences while keeping the same incredible pace, so this is even better. They also have the Storm and Candido forced partnership to play with, as they almost lose the titles a few times because of it, even playing off the Doomsday Device spot from the first match. This time, Storm Superkicks Tracy back into a Bridging German from Candido to win. ***1/4 Match #2: The Sandman/2 Cold Scorpio vs. Rob Van Dam/Sabu w/ Bill Alfonso This was a wonderful mess. I liked it just enough to go three on it, but there was a lot of Sabu botching. But it was Sabu botching in a good way, as it adds to the massively chaotic vibe here. Scorpio vs. RVD was even better than on PPV since this was only 9 minutes, and they broke out even more insane and reckless stuff here. Some great dives and bumps by both guys, and yeah. RVD and Sabu again use Total Elimination, and Sabu beats Sandman with a Flipping Arabian Facebuster off the top. *** ECW ARENA RETURN - MATCH 21ST! PULP FICTION: -Bam Bam Bigelow has the TV Title with him and says Living Dangerously is why he's the Beast from the East, and now he's the Taz killer. He says the biggest, baddest, and toughest son of a bitch in ECW. He says when he was in juvi (poor Juvi), he used to watch wrestling with his one free hour and he'd see wrestling and see the old timers hold their belts and say "IF YOU WANT THIS BELT, YOU GOTTA BEAT ME, BROTHER!" He says it's his time now, and if you want this belt, you've gotta beat him. -Bill Alfonso yells that ECW TV is going to be all Sabu and Rob Van Dam. RVD talks and says Mr. Monday Night is the best, and says Sabu is pretty good too. He asks for a high five and Sabu actually goes to do it, but RVD takes his hand down. He says he's the one guy Bam Bam Bigelow can't beat, and pushes Sabu's hand into pointing up, and says he's the Whole Fucking Show, and asks why you would watch anyone else. -New Jack says he's Jerome Miller, but on the streets, it's New Jack. Not a studio gangster, not a cartoon character, but the Original Gangsta. -Shane Douglas says he was embarrassed on the biggest PPV in ECW history, and yells that he doesn't care and he's not embarrassed. He says nobody plays head games with him, and yells about seeing Al Snow fans out in the world waving that stupid styrofoam head and says it doesn't bother me. Shane says it's his belt, his company, and Al Snow is another pretender to the throne. |

ECW World Heavyweight Champion: Shane Douglas, Since 11/30/1997 - LONGEST REIGNING CURRENT CHAMPION ECW Television Champion: Bam Bam Bigelow, Since 3/1/1998 ECW Tag Team Champions: Chris Candido/Lance Storm, Since 12/6/1997 ECW Hardcore TV March 18th, 1998 Queens, NY In the ring, Paul Heyman is in the ring and on the mic. He gives this amazing sermon to the mutants about how ECW is on every PPV network now because of them and whips everyone into a frenzy. In the ring, Joey Styles welcomes everyone to the show, and NYC still hates Philly. He hypes up Wrestlepalooza and brings out Shane Douglas and Francine. Joey says fans here are hoping that May 3rd is the Night of the Living Head. UGH. SO BAD. Shane wants to hit him. Shane says the reason there's an ECW for him to get a live mic with is because of him and looks like he's going insane. Chris Candido comes out to calm him down, BUT SHANE SHOVES CANDIDO DOWN. Bigelow gets down there too and they hold Shane back from murdering Joey Styles. Are they trying to turn him face? Because this feels like it. He's finally trying to murder a terrible announcer, he's talking about how awful Al Snow is, etc. Match #1: Axl Rotten/Balls Mahoney vs. Danny Doring/Roadkill w/ Lance Wright & Droz Droz, what the fuck? Solid 3 minute showcase for Rotten Balls. Doring and Roadkill don't embarrass themselves and do their job. Joey Styles mentions that Balls and Axl are in line for a Tag Title shot and may get it at Wrestlepalooza. They win with the Stereo Chair Shots. *1/4 Before the FBI's match, they force the ring announcer to announce Tommy Rich as the President of Italy. AMAZING. Match #2: The Sandman/2 Cold Scorpio vs. Little Guido/Tracy Smothers w/ Tommy Rich I think I might love every Sandman/Scorpio tag I've ever seen. Such a different and lovable team. This isn't great, but for 7-8 minutes, it's a wonderful little TV match. FBI do their shtick and it's insanely entertaining as always. There's a ref bump, so Scorpio uses that to get a hot tag segment, but he can't pin anyone. Referee Jeff Jones comes out and Tommy Rich interferes. He tries to use a chain, and Joey shits on that as cliche. OH MY GOD, FUCK YOU. CLASSICS ARE CLASSIC FOR A REASON. SHUT THE FUCK UP. Sandman canes the ref, Scorp takes out Rich and Smothers with a dive, and Sandman canes Guido to win! YEAH! **1/2 On the usual display of ECW ads and promos for merch, a still airs advertising JAPW's show on March 22nd and telling fans to go heckle and boo former ECW stars and show support for ECW and it's current stars. Was JAPW really a threat? To anything? Ever? C'mon, guys. Why even give them any press? MARCH 21ST AT THE ECW ARENA: -BIGELOW VS. THE SANDMAN FOR THE TV TITLE IN A SPRING STAMPEDE 1999 PREVIEW! -DREAMER & MIKEY VS. CREDIBLE & JASON Match #3: Tommy Dreamer vs. Justin Credible Beulah is with Tommy, and Jason, Nicole Bass, and now Chastity are with Credible. This happened for sure. Credible was hit and miss as usual, but with far more misses than hits. Tommy's selling of the hardcore spots was easily the best part of this. They go crazy with interference from the girls, a catfight, Jason, a Mikey run in, etc. Mikey hits Credible with the Whippersnapper and Tommy hits a DDT to win. ** Credible attacks post-match and Jason attacks Mikey's leg in a cast with a chair. Justin then hits Mikey with That's Incredible on a chair. Except not really, it's just a regular Tombstone, because I guess now that he has his push, he can stop trying to make things look cool. Clips air of The Triple Threat vs. Storm, Lynn, and Chetti. It looks really good, but it's too chopped up to even count as sort of a match. Lance Storm needs to start actually laying in his chops if he's supposed to be evenly trading chops with dudes like Candido, who actually have great chops. Candido is rolled on top of Storm for the win after Bam Bam hits Greetings From Asbury Park. Only 4 minutes got shown out of probably at least 10, and it's a shame, I probably would have gone *** on it. Post-match, Shane Douglas gets on the mic and says he made ECW so they could come here and yell at him. He says he's made a career out of messing with other people's heads, and a bunch of styrofoam ones aren't going to get in his and when people start waving them, he yells to stop it. He tells them to shove them up their asses, so the ring gets showered with heads. He dares them to throw them and starts kicking them. He rips one up and says that's Al Snow on May 3rd. Al Snow then comes out and cleans house. |

ECW World Heavyweight Champion: Shane Douglas, Since 11/30/1997 - LONGEST REIGNING CURRENT CHAMPION ECW Television Champion: Bam Bam Bigelow, Since 3/1/1998 ECW Tag Team Champions: Chris Candido/Lance Storm, Since 12/6/1997 ECW Hardcore TV March 25th, 1998 Philadelphia, PA In the back, Bill Alfonso, RVD, and Sabu are standing by. Alfonso says this is the greatest one-two punch in wrestling and if the right one don't get you, the left one will. He says Triple Threat isn't so smart because he's the real genius, and says RVD is going to soften up Bigelow so Sabu can bring the gold home at Wrestlepalooza. RVD says he's going to beat Bigelow again and says what's Sabu's is his, and what's his is his too. He's gonna scar him up bad -- no offense, Sabu. He asks for another take and says he's going to knock out Bam Bam's teeth -- no offense, Fonzie. He tells Bam Bam to keep thinking he can beat him, and says he's gonna...he looks at Fonzie and Sabu, and says he's gonna knock his head off. In the back, Joey Styles officially announces Bigelow/Sabu for the TV Title and Candido & Storm/ROTTEN BALLS for the Tag Titles for Wrestlepalooza on May 3rd. This show sees the debut of the famous brick wall entrance set. The FBI have a match against Doring and Roadkill, but Doring gets on the mic. He says he doesn't stop until the panties drop, and now I hate him so much for saying that. He says they want to make a name for themselves and is just so awful at talking and projecting any kind of heel confidence. Axl and Balls come out to make it a three way dance, and claim this makes it a real tag team match, because this is opposite world. Axl at least calls Doring a limp wristed queer, so that rules. A clipped version airs for 2-3 minutes, and Rotten Balls win. In the back, the Triple Threat cuts a promo. Candido says ECW is coming to Buffalo, and he's going to defend the Tag Titles basically all by himself, and he'll carry Lance to another win. Shane says on April 4th, the Triple Threat walks in with 80 lbs of gold, and says Rob Van Dam is going to "soften up" the Beast from the East. Bam Bam starts laughing. Shane says he thought such a thing was possible too, so he understands the mistake, but after surgery and a broken elbow, he knows it's not possible. He says if he did that to HIM to try and keep the ECW Title, imagine what he'll do to RVD to try and keep a belt that's just as important. Shane says to leave the heads at home and says nobody's in his head. Francine, Candido, and Bigelow all try to get him to stop, and Shane storms off. Shame he got good at promos again now that he's too injured to be of much use. Before their match, Candido again insists on not coming out to Lance Storm's music, and has his own entrance. Match #1: Chris Candido/Lance Storm [c] vs. Jerry Lynn/Chris Chetti [ECW Tag Team Championship] This was also clipped, but 7 minutes of it aired and it had an actual flow presented in spite of the clipping. Lynn is solid again, but Chetti sucks out loud. Highlight is Storm and Candido doing the best ever version of partners who hate each other due to the stipulation on their team. They even wind up fighting at one point, and Candido blatantly tries to steal the glory and spotlight. Even with the clipping, they show a AWFUL Chetti botch, which is fantastic. Lance hits him with a Flying Spinning Wheel Kick, but Lynn breaks it up. Candido accidentally drops Lance over the top, and then throws Lynn out before stealing Lance's cover to win. **1/4 Lance and Candido argue, but Axl and Balls come out. Axl says they're not Canadian scabs from up north or sissies who have women that care about their partners more than them, and Candido gets mad. He runs into a chair shot from Axl, and Axl says that shut him up. They move in on Lance, but he attacks them both until Balls lays him out with a chair shot. Shane Douglas and Bam Bam come out to save, but they get beaten up. They threaten Francine too, but Shane kicks Balls in the dick. Axl hits Shane with the chair, but Bam Bam kills him with Greetings From Asbury Park. He then hits one on Balls too. Shane and Candido get up, and Candido covers them both before Francine counts to three. The Triple Threat then poses in the ring. Clips air from Queens, where Taz came out through the crowd to confront Bigelow, but Bigelow left the ring. Taz then laid out BBB's scheduled opponent, El Puerto Ricano. Coming back, Bam Bam Bigelow is in the ring for his match, but Taz comes out. He gets on the mic and says to listen. He says he's waited three weeks to get him face to face, and says people make excuses for him. He's twice Taz's size, the ring broke, he had homefield advantage, the ref missed a tap out, but it's simple. On March 1st, he was the better man, and he pinned him. But now instead of getting up to run at 7 am, he's getting up at 6. Instead of stopping training at 11 at night, he stops at 1 am. Taz shakes his hand and says it's just a matter of time before this happens again, and he gets his belt back. AND BIGELOW/SANDMAN IS CLIPPED DOWN TO FUCKING 2 MINUTES. FUCK THIS COMPANY. THIS WAS SO GOOD THOUGH! Sandman hurts his hand, Bigelow bleeds around the eye, Sandman targets it with some nasty stuff, etc. Bigelow catches Sandman jumping at him in the corner and runs out with Greetings From Asbury Park for the win. An insane video airs where Al Snow is listening to Head with his eyes closed. He's in front of a wall with "!!!EM PLEH" written on it and is drawing in circles as audio plays of Shane Douglas' promos and insane rantings on him. What the shit? Match #2: Al Snow vs. Rob Van Dam w/ Bill Alfonso This is JIP and only the last five minutes air, but not clipped. Fuck it, I'll count it. Shit rules. It's totally the RVD show, but I love the RVD show at this point. Awesome offense, insane bumps, etc. Al Snow looks like he's trying for the first time since he's been in ECW, and even hits a nice Asai Moonsault. Great finishing run back inside, and Sabu comes out. Snow throws the chair back at RVD to avoid the Van Daminator, and ducks Sabu trying a kick off the top, and Sabu kicks RVD! Snow covers to win. This would be much higher if they showed the full god damned match. What the fuck, ECW? **1/2 Sabu and RVD argue as heads fill the ring. Fonzie keeps the peace though. RVD offers a high five, but takes his hand down when Sabu goes for it. RVD walks out and Sabu tries to dive on him, but Fonzie stops him behind RVD's back. |

ECW World Heavyweight Champion: Shane Douglas, Since 11/30/1997 - LONGEST REIGNING CURRENT CHAMPION ECW Television Champion: Bam Bam Bigelow, Since 3/1/1998 ECW Tag Team Champions: Chris Candido/Lance Storm, Since 12/6/1997 ECW Hardcore TV April 1st, 1998 Philadelphia, PA The end of last week's show is aired again to start us off. Clips air of RVD's initial refusal to shake Sabu's hand at Hostile City Showdown 96. In the back, Bam Bam Bigelow cuts a promo. He says he knows RVD and what he's about and if he thinks his eye is gonna stop him, then he's got another thing coming. He says he's going to show him why he's the champion, why he's the Beast From the East, and in Buffalo, he's going to get the most extreme ass kicking he's ever seen. Before the first match, Joel "I'm Like the Middle Of the Litterbox, I'm Always Surrounded By Pussy" Gertner does the introduction. Match #1: Spike Dudley vs. Bubba Ray Dudley w/ Everyone [Dudleyville Street Fight] This was fun. Spike has a lot of fire and takes insane bumps. D-Von and Big Dick get involved, but that brings out John Kronus and I guess he's still here. They beat him down because it's 3 on 1, SO FUCKING NEW JACK COMES OUT! YEAH! Things get crazy then, and it's great. Sign Guy has a sign that says New Jack dropped the soap in prison, so he gets a guitar broken on his head. Spike hits Bubba with the Acid Drop through a table to win. **1/4 The angle airs from two weeks ago where Shane got showered with heads in the ring in Queens. The main event of Living Dangerously is then shown. In the back, Sabu, RVD, and Alfonso are standing by. RVD says it's that time again where they put RVD's face on a camera so the ratings will go up. RVD says everyone's talking about he and Bam Bam Bigelow, and says there's all kinds of hype. Fonzie says he's real excited about that and at May 3rd and says Sabu is so ready for Bam Bam that he's going to take him out in 6 minutes and 40 seconds, which is crazy specific. Fonzie says RVD is gonna soften him up, but RVD says he's gonna win. He says most people predict Bam Bam will go down, which is surprising. Not because of the prediction, because it's the truth, but because most fans are absolute morons -- no offense, Sabu. He says he's gonna kick his teeth out -- no offense, Fonzie. He says teethless people aren't freaks -- no offense, Sabu. Sabu grabs him and RVD says his best friend is a freak and they miss the high five again. PULP FICTION: -Blue Meanie and Nova talk about how awful their lives have been since Raven and Stevie left. Nova says they should drive their car off a cliff, but says at least they're injury free. He goes to high five Meanie and pokes him in the eyes though, and says at least he is. Meanie blindly knees him in the dick. I hate myself for laughing. -The FBI argue about who will win the TV Title and talk about the odds and start making bets -Chris Candido says he's carried Lance on his back since day one and he's beaten everyone by himself. Shane Douglas says Lance isn't Triple Threat material, but Candido made him great just by association. He talks about all Bam Bam has taken for the last month and says he's been more successful than ever. -The Sandman says he doesn't care who has the TV Title. He has his cane, his cigarette, and a case of beer in the car. That's all you need in life. -Shane Douglas brings up Al Snow and the other three groan. Shane says Al says he was held down, but not like him. He was held down by Bill Watts (called being a rookie), the NWA held him down (rookie), the WWF held him down (rookie), WCW held him down (yeah, that team with Steamboat. Real shitty.), and the WWF held him down again. Shane says he HAD to take a title and throw it down to make a mark, and he's been a marked man because he just tried to break out. WOW, OKAY. WE'RE JUST MAKING SHIT UP NOW. He says Al Snow does nothing for 15 years, gets a little Head next to him, and suddenly he's a main eventer! Shane yells that the heads don't bother him and they all try to calm him down. He says he wants to SHOOT~ with Al Snow, and says he's going to beat him. How's that a shoot? He says he's going to bust him up because he can. |

ECW World Heavyweight Champion: Shane Douglas, Since 11/30/1997 - LONGEST REIGNING CURRENT CHAMPION ECW Television Champion: Bam Bam Bigelow, Since 3/1/1998 ECW Tag Team Champions: Chris Candido/Lance Storm, Since 12/6/1997 ECW Hardcore TV April 8th, 1998 Buffalo, NY ECW ARENA - APRIL 18TH: -DOUGLAS VS. SABU FOR THE ECW TITLE The show opens with Doring, Roadkill, and Droz beating up on Kronus and Spike in the ring, AND NEW JACK COMES OUT AND THROWS SHIT IN THE RING! NEW JACK THROWS A VACUUM CLEANER AT ROADKILL! New Jack kills everyone and New Jack hits Droz with the EL KABONG~ before the show goes to the opening video. A clipjob of FBI vs. Nova/Meanie airs. The closest the ex-BWO have ever come to "bringing it". Match #1: Mikey Whipwreck vs. Justin Credible w/ Jason & Chastity Awesome Mikey carryjob, but Justin really dragged this down. He comes in super super super fired up after last time in Buffalo, and has lots of great moments of hate and pieces of offense. Justin has some decent basic stuff, and Mikey has a sweet comeback. Credible then gets too preoccupied with trying to do Shawn and Hunter bumps and he's not athletic AT ALL, so it falls completely short and really takes me out of it. There's a ref bump and Mikey hits Jason with the Whippersnapper. Jeff Jones comes out and gets one too, but Chastity does a dick claw, and Justin hits That's Incredible to win. WHAT THE FUCK?! GIVE MIKEY HIS WIN, GOD DAMNIT. WHY IS THIS SACK OF SHIT THAT NOBODY CARES ABOUT, EVEN WITH A FOUR MONTH LONG MEGAPUSH, GOING OVER THE DUDE EVERYONE LOVES?! GOD DAMNIT. **3/4 Credible targets the knee again, and NOBODY reacts. Tommy Dreamer comes out and now people care, as he saves. Match #2: Bam Bam Bigelow [c] vs. Rob Van Dam w/ Bill Alfonso [ECW Television Championship] Oh my god, this is immediately on the short list for my favorite matches in this review so far. Everything great about their first match, but even crazier and with less interference. Bam Bam just DESTROYS RVD early on, and Rob takes tons of insane bumps again. He has a wonderful desperate flurry on the floor and hits an INSANE crowd dive. AND THEN TOPS THAT WITH A GOD DAMNED FLIPPING SENTON INTO LIKE THE 3RD OR 4TH ROW. BOTH THE MOST INSANE AND PRETTIEST CROWD DIVE EVER! He keeps it up, BUT BIGELOW KILLS HIS FACE WITH A LARIAT ON THE FLOOR! He Powerbombs him onto the timekeeper's table, BUT IT DOESN'T BREAK. GOD DAMN. SO BIGELOW GETS ON THE APRON AND ELBOW DROPS HIM THROUGH IT! Bam Bam hurts himself more trying to play RVD's game, which is fantastic. RVD manages to barely get up first, AND PUSHES HALF OF THE BROKEN TABLE INTO BIGELOW'S FACE! AWESOME! Bigelow takes over back in the ring, in his element. Sabu comes out to save RVD from death, BUT BIGELOW CATCHES HIM AND HURLS HIM INTO RVD! SABU TAKES OUT THE SPIKE AND STABS BIGELOW IN THE INJURED EYE AREA! He falls down, AND RVD HITS THE VAN DAMINATOR AND BIGELOW TRIPS OVER SABU ON THE MAT! RVD PINS HIM TO WIN! FUCK YEAH! **** The Triple Threat comes out to help Bigelow, and RVD, Sabu, and Fonzie leave. RVD says he did it by himself and says Sabu's proud of him. EMTs come out to help Bam Bam with a stretcher, AND SABU KICKS THE STRETCHER IN HATE. CONTINUITY? PULP FICTION: -The Triple Threat says they can deal with this. Shane says it was a conspiracy to have him defend the title with a bad eye. Shane says everyone's always plotting against him and them, and yells about Al Snow and Head some more. -Rotten Balls says Candido and Storm are scared to death of them and of chairs, and this is ECW and hardcore violence, so they were going to wrap chairs around their head on May 3rd -Fonzie yells that he told them that they were coming to Wrestlepalooza as the TV Champion, and they'll fight everyone. Paul comes on and says Fonzie blew it, and Sabu gets a TV Title shot at Wrestlepalooza, and that's it. SABU TRIES TO GRAB THE TITLE AND THEY START HAVING A TUG OF WAR OVER IT |

ECW World Heavyweight Champion: Shane Douglas, Since 11/30/1997 - LONGEST REIGNING CURRENT CHAMPION ECW Television Champion: Rob Van Dam, Since 4/4/1998 ECW Tag Team Champions: Chris Candido/Lance Storm, Since 12/6/1997 ECW Hardcore TV April 15th, 1998 Kissimmee, FL In the back, The Triple Threat cuts a promo. Shane Douglas says they're coming back to Buffalo a week after Wrestlepalooza and says he knows everyone expects that show to finish off what was started last time in Buffalo, this supposed destruction of the Triple Threat. Bam Bam lost the ECW TV Title, people think Al Snow's going to beat him, people ask how much longer Chris Candido can carry dead weight, but it's not going to happen. Shane says this is a holding pattern, not decline, and Bam Bam is a LITTLE pissed off and looking for a man to break in half. They plug the May 9th show in Buffalo again. In the back, Joey again plugs Shane/Sabu this weekend at the ECW Arena, talking about how Sabu won the title before Hardcore Heaven last year and they had to change the entire PPV around. In the back, ANOTHER Triple Threat promo airs. Shane says in the last 5 years, the ECW Arena has seen many a violent act, but this time the Triple Threat will do something you'd never thought you'd see. Candido carries another Canadian to greatness, but Candido says this is nothing new, he's been doing it for four months. Candido says it'd be easier to tie that Canadian pencil arm to the ringpost and do all the work himself officially, since he usually does anyways. Shane says they've thrown another curveball with Sabu again, and he knows what Sabu has, but he has to take his head off his body to beat him. He says Wrestlepalooza is his pedestal, and Sabu will not take it away. Shane says the Triple Threat is backed into a corner again, and they have to fight their way out. In the back, Axl Rotten and Balls Mahoney again say everyone knows that Candido and Storm are afraid of chairs and basically just repeat their promo. In the ring, Joel Gertner introduces a tag team from the Down Under section of Dudleyville, BUTCH DUDLEY AND LUKE DUDLEY, THE BUSHWHACKERS! AND THEY HAVE TIE-DYE DUDLEYS SHIRTS ON. Tommy Dreamer and The Sandman come out and get ready for murder, but The Dudley Boyz run out from the crowd and they attack from behind! D-Von canes Sandman, and Tommy gets hit with the 3D. They hit Sandman with the 3D too, AND HIS NECK PROBABLY BREAKS GOD DAMN, and put them against the belts. Bubba gets the chair and D-Von gets the cane, and Bubba yells "ECW!" like Tommy, and they drop them with weapon shots. AND SIGN GUY DUDLEY POURS BEER ON THEM! Scorpio runs out to try and save, but he is overwhelmed, and also gets shut down with the 3D. They then do the Dreamer/Sandman pose over all three. Totally out of nowhere for this much "big" stuff, but it really gets the Dudleys hot, which they haven't been since like N2R, as entertaining as they have been. To kill time as people help Tommy and Sandman, the ending moments of RVD/Bam Bam are shown again. Awesome. The RVD/Sabu promo from last week airs again, and RVD vs. Sabu is hyped for Wrestlepalooza. A fan cam clipped version airs of Sabu vs. a now insanely fat Tonga Kid. Sabu does what he can and wins. Clips air of The Sandman being stretchered out and put in an ambulance. His wife is crying, because she likes him now, I guess. Rotten Balls are in the ring as we finally move on, BUT LANCE TAKES THEM OUT WITH CHAIR SHOTS FROM BEHIND! It's still Lance Storm though, so they're the weakest chair shots ever. Candido joins in, and Lance then hits Candido with a chair too, AND A MATCH STARTS. HEY, GIVE IT AWAY A FEW WEEKS BEFORE THE PPV! ECW! ECW! ECW! Match #1: Chris Candido/Lance Storm [c] vs. Axl Rotten/Balls Mahoney [ECW Tag Team Championship] This is only like 3 minutes, so whatever. Balls is hurt from the chair, so Axl fights both Candido and Storm, who again have issues. Storm hits the Springboard Back Elbow, but Candido steals the cover to win. *1/2 Candido hits Storm with the title belt after the match, and he holds up the belts. Danny Doring and Roadkill come out and Doring tries to claim he's the new #1 Contenders, but Axl and Balls kill them with chairs. Candido waits, and he gets on the mic. He says after he did all the work again as usual, and challenges Lance Storm to a singles match right now. Lance gets up hurt on the floor, and Candido attacks him so the ref just sort of accepts it. Match #2: Chris Candido vs. Lance Storm It's these two, so this is very good. It's under 5 minutes, but really really good. They slap the shit out of each other and do some good stuff without giving away a whole lot for when they finally have a blow off to this at some point probably in the summer. Lance is able to get out of the Blond Bombshell and to the match. Candido jumps, but Lance catches him in a Liger Bomb for the win. **1/4 Post-match, Lance now holds up the titles. Slow motion replays air of the 3D to The Sandman again, BUT FUCK THAT, THE FBI IS IN THE RING. CUT TO THAT INSTEAD. Chris Chetti vs. Bam Bam is supposed to happen, but Bigelow has all the other Triple Threat members with him, and Shane gets on the mic. He asks Chetti who the hell he thinks he is, and asks if he thinks he's special because he's Taz's cousin, which is the first time I remember that being mentioned. Although I tune a LOT of Joey Styles stuff out because he's awful. Anyways, he rants about how one year into his career, he was carrying bags and driving people around for Bill Watts, not in the ring at a show like this on his hard work. Taz comes out to save his idiot cousin but then hits him with a T-Bone Suplex. Good, fuck him. Taz says he doesn't give a shit about his family or them or his girl and says he'll take them all on. Shane says not to pair him in with his stupid family, because he's not a loser. Shane challenges him to fight them all now, and Taz dares him to put his title up. Heyman is off screen trying to break it up, but Shane yells at him to cut it out, and Shane says Taz gets no title shot. Shane asks if he's mad that Al Snow jumped over his head, and says Taz doesn't deserve a shot because Bigelow beat his big jabroni ass. Shane says he's got a challenge for him though, since he's a big shooter, and offers him his arm. He says to snap it right now if he wants to make a name for himself. He dares him and says if he does it, they'll be on him immediately and if he breaks his arm, ECW goes down. Wow, no. Why did Taz act like that was a possiblity? What the fuck kind of a blowjob angle is this? Shane had to slap Taz before he finally goes and pulls him down hard by the arm. Candido and Bigelow pull him off and Shane sells like his arm got broken. Bigelow and Taz brawl away to end the show as Shane holds his arm and screams. |

ECW World Heavyweight Champion: Shane Douglas, Since 11/30/1997 - LONGEST REIGNING CURRENT CHAMPION ECW Television Champion: Rob Van Dam, Since 4/4/1998 ECW Tag Team Champions: Chris Candido/Lance Storm, Since 12/6/1997 ECW Hardcore TV April 22nd, 1998 Philadelphia, PA In the back, Joel Gertner opens the show, in glasses so he can pretend to be Joey Styles. He is Joel "I'm straight, you're not" Gertner. He says it was only 3 years ago, when Tommy Dreamer did battle at Heatwave 98 when Tommy Dreamer did battle with the former WCW United States Champion of the...well, United States...Raven. He says the karma police (cue the song) are here for the Chairshot Heard Round The World, and last week, Bubba, D-Von, and Big Dick fired the shot heard all around Fidel's country of Florida. Gertner talks about Lori's appearance crying and says she must have been able to afford a babysitter for her illegitimate mentally retarded children. He says at Wrestlepalooza 98, they would turn Cobb County into a dry county and a no smoking county for The Sandman, and as for Tommy, quote the Tommy, nevermore. In the back, Joey Styles talks about Shane's now reinjured arm and elbow. He says Shane will defend the title on May 3rd. He then announces Bam Bam Bigelow vs. New Jack for Wrestlepalooza and another Mikey vs. Credible match, so Mikey can make this sack of shit look good again before losing. Joey confirms Dudleys vs. Tommy/Sandman as well. In the ring, Joey Styles brings out Taz. He says to tell them why Shane Douglas is off the show now, and to tell them that Shane Douglas is sitting in Pittsburgh because he fucked up his arm, that Shane Douglas is gone because of him. Taz says he's been way way too nice lately. He says Shane hit a nerve with him last week, and said he isn't getting a shot because he lost to Bigelow, and that's right. He says Bam Bam was the better man on that night, but Shane Douglas fears him because he is the uncrowned World Heavyweight Champion. Taz yells at Paul to not shut his mic off and says this is a fucking shoot brother. UGH. Taz says it's no more Mr. Nice Guy. Taz goes wild and says he never left, but he stood here and put up with shit in ECW, and Joey asks what's with him. Taz slaps the shit out of him. Several clipjobs air of matches from this Arena show. Again, rushing through potentially good stuff: -Fun FBI/BWO match -Bam Bam throws Fonzie into the crowd -The Dudleys go after Beulah, BUT THE LIGHTS GO OUT AND THE SANDMAN IS BACK IN A NECK BRACE! YEAH! Match #1: Chris Candido w/ Francine vs. Axl Rotten This was a fun 5-6 minutes. Constant action and Candido gets the best out of Axl that anyone's been able to get in a few years. Axl has a good wrestler in him, but it's often hidden under mindless stuff, but it's nice to see it from time to time. Francine keeps interfering and throws Candido a chain, but Axl ducks it. He hits a Lifting Reverse DDT and that Joey names the SST for the win. **1/2 He goes after Francine, and Candido hits him with his own chair. Balls Mahoney runs out to save, but when he goes after Francine, Bam Bam Bigelow comes out. He hits him with the Greeting From Asbury Park, and Bigelow, Candido, and Francine celebrate. LOTSA PHONE SEX ADS. Match #2: Al Snow vs. Sabu w/ Bill Alfonso This is fun. Sabu does a Sabu Match with Al Snow and fits his stuff in well. It's not great, it's only 10 minutes so it's a little rushed and held back, but it's a quality match anyways. Al Snow is about to Snow Plow Sabu through a table, but RVD distracts the ref. Fonzie clips Al's leg and he falls through the table with Sabu on top. Sabu is about to win, BUT RVD THROWS IN THE TOWEL FOR SABU! wat. The ref somehow accepts that and Al Snow wins. **1/2 Sabu and RVD shove at each other and the ring is showered with heads. |

CANDIDO HITS A PILEDRIVER ON THE BELT! Taz tries to get at Bigelow, but Douglas and Candido pull him off and beat him up. They hold him for Bam Bam to hit him with the TV Title again, and all three hold up the Triple Threat sign.
