CHIKARA A Touch of Class
January 31st, 2010
Philadelphia, PA

In the back, Pinkie Sanchez talks in front of the BDK banner. He says he came to CHIKARA with bright eyes ready to fight, and nothing could knock him off the cloud he was on. He says people didn't take him seriously, and they made him into an outcast. He says he's not an outcast, and he's better than anybody here, he's stronger and faster and smarter and he won the Cibernetico. He says this is the era of the BDK now and nobody messes with them. He then pulls on a white and pink Colony mask and says it's just begun.

BDK has a personal ring announcer named Jakob Hammermaier, and Bryce on commentary mentions that CHIKARA has a new Director of Fun, Dieter Von Steigerwalt.

Match #1: Pinkie Sanchez vs. Green Ant
This isn't super great, because their focus is all over the place in terms of limbwork and Green Ant is still incredibly inexperienced, but it had a lot of very fun moments and was totally worth seeing. Green Ant shows a ton of fire and hits really hard to show his anger, which works for me. Pinkie's heel shtick is a little forced, but he also brought it in the ring. Pinkie invents this weird Burning Hammer/Razor's Edge type hybrid deal to win.
***

Match #2: Vin Gerard/Colin Delaney/STIGMA vs. Player Uno/Sugar Dunkerton/Create-a-Wrestler

Dasher Hatfield reverted back to CAW as he does every January 1st, and Dunkerton is mad about losing his tag partner. No idea why The UnStable even bothers being a thing during the BDK. Vin and CAW brawl to the back and then a normal tag breaks out. Sugar Dunkerton sings "Pants on the Ground" in this, because lol topical. Vin brawls back out WITH ULTIMO BREAKFAST! YEAH! YOU ARE THE BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS! Vin and Breakfast get back on the apron. YEAH! TOAST! He gets chased off to the back though. :( The actual match isn't much. Nobody in the Unstable cares anymore. Dasher Hatfield returns for the hot tag and that's easily the best part of this. DASHER BREAKS OUT MOSCOW THE COMMUNIST BOVINE'S MULE KICK! YEAH! He then wins with the Grand Slam.
*3/4

Match #3: The Osirian Portal vs. Sara Del Rey/Daizee Haze

The Portal tried their best, and SDR did well, but Haze is so awkward against guys because she's so tiny that it just doesn't work visually. But then because CHIKARA is pushing gender equality as a measure of how DIFFERENT~ they are, she wins. Sara hits a NASTY Piledriver on Ophidian, and Daizee gets a Bridging German to win. I can buy that, since SDR did most of the work on that.
**

Match #4: Brodie Lee vs. Hallowicked w/ Frightmare

Only 8 minutes, but it ruled. Total strikefest, and both men hit real hard and had lots of fire, so it delivered. Brodie was in control, but decided to be a bully and pulled Frightmare to the apron to throw him off. Hallowicked goes nuts with like 5 Corner Yakuza Kicks and hits the Rydeen Bomb for the win. YEAH! DIDN'T EXPECT THAT!
***

In the back, The Order of the Neo-Solar Temple cuts a promo. UMB says he's been asked for his thoughts on the BDK, and he applauds and says they one-upped the most devious man in CHIKARA, and if they leave the Order alone, they have nothing to fear.

Match #5: UltraMantis Black/Delirious/Crossbones vs. Grizzly Redwood/Pelle Primeau/Andy Ridge
PELLE! YEAH! This is basically an Order squash, but whatever. Ridge was particularly impressive, but he gets beaten after the Praying Mantis Bomb.
**

In the back in front of the BDK banner, Tim Donst speaks. He says everybody likes Player Dos and talks about what a great YLC Champion he is and how he's so great. He says he hears the fans and they love him too, but he doesn't. He dislikes him because no matter what he does, Dos will always be a better athlete than him. But he can cheat. Dos won't cheat, but he will, and that's why he'll win. He says YLC is his destiny. Hail the BDK. Hail Tim Donst.

Match #6: Player Dos [c] vs. Tim Donst [CHIKARA Young Lion's Cup Championship]
Really good stuff. They never hit the next level, but it wasn't from a lack of effort. Donst is more exposed as a heel, but it hasn't happened wuite yet, and Dos did lots of cool flips and shit. Some quality nearfalls also occur, and Donst puts on the crazy Reverse CHIKARA Special to win the Cup.
**3/4

An eight man tag is up next with Claudio, Ares, Tursas, and whomever the eighth BDK member is vs. Quack, Jigsaw, Lince Dorado, and Jimmy Olsen. The faces run down, BUT LINCE ATTACKS JIMMY FROM BEHIND, AND HE'S THE BDK'S EIGHTH MEMBER! SON OF BITCH. It's now a 4 on 3.

Match #7: Mike Quackenbush/Jigsaw/Jimmy Olsen vs. Claudio Castagnoli/Ares/Tursas/Lince Dorado
I'm not calling Jimmy "Equinox". He's fucking Jimmy Olsen, and CHIKARA doesn't need to rebrand everyone. Tursas is a fat new debuting guy, and Aries is still the worst. So bland and boring, excelling at nothing and having no actual charisma. BDK dominates, BUT EDDIE KINGSTON RUNS DOWN TO BE THE FOURTH MAN FOR QUACK'S TEAM! YEAH! Tursas is put over huge here as he can't even be knocked down. Awesome finishing run, and as Kingston tries to lift Tursas, Claudio hits a low blow and cradle him to win. It's not on the level of the KOW multimans, but it was still really really good due to minimal Ares and Tursas involvement.
***

The BDK holds Kingston up and Claudio says he owes him his respect from their match, AND KINGSTON SPITS AT HIM AND SAYS HE'LL NEVER RESPECT HIM! Claudio then hits him with the Ricola Bomb and BDK stands tall.

Match #8: Fire Ant/Soldier Ant [c] vs. Team F.I.S.T. [CHIKARA Campeonatos Des Parejas]
This was SO disappointing. Incredibly sloppy and with a shitty crowd because they've been murdered by the BDK domination. This mostly stems from Gran Akuma's incredibly sudden decline in 2010. He's now suddenly really slow and sloppy and he seems practically immobile. Icarus does well and Fire and Soldier are both pretty solid, but this never really clicks like so many of the other Colony/FIST matches did. Akuma goes up 1-0 for FIST with the Rubik's Cube. They then just do lots of moves and it goes on too long before the second fall is even over. Soldier Ant makes Icarus tap to the CHIKARA Special to even it up, and then shortly after, Fire Ant blocks a second Rubik's Cube and gets a Victory Roll to thankfully retain the belts.

CHIKARA The Mint Condition
February 27th, 2010
Reading, PA

In the back, The Colony cuts a promo. Green Ant is mad that Pinkie Sanchez infiltrated their group in 2009 and says Pinkie complained about being an outcast, but he's not. They accepted him as Carpenter Ant, and he turned out to be a poser and a liar, and tonight he has the tag team champions with him and they're going to make sure he gets what he deserves.

Match #1: The Colony vs. Lince Dorado/Pinkie Sanchez/Daizee Haze w/ Sara Del Rey
This was great! Lince clearly hasn't gotten the memo, since he's the only BDK member not wearing white gear. I've figured out the problem here with Daizee Haze. It's not that she's a girl and it's unsettling, but it's a matter of suspension of disbelief. She's a tiny anorexic girl who insists on working as a fast striker, but you can't buy her strikes harming guys two times her size. However, The Colony being pissed off is fantastic. BDK has enough cool triple teams to make this work, and Pinkie has some great heel tricks. They again use commentary to further the BDK angle, with Bryce saying the new Director of Fun has demoted Leonard F. Chikarason to a mere commentator and ticket taker, but he was told to not even come in this weekend. Also, UMB says he is not involved in this BDK vs. CHIKARA issue at all. They set up lots of great stuff in the finishing run and this had revenge spots and kept it short-ish, which I loved. Soldier Ant gets on the CHIKARA Special on Pinkie, and I'm freaking out because I didn't think BDK lost this early. That's the sign of a great match. But then Sara kicks Soldier in the back for the DQ. :(
***1/4

In the back, UMB cuts a promo with Delirious. He says he and his Delirious have attained great success and 2010 is when it all comes to fruition. He says tomorrow night, the two of them will become champions and then the Order of the Neo Solar Temple will take that momentum into April and become King of Trios! He says he will spend the night in meditation, but he is sending this man into battle as one last training mission.

Match #2: Delirious vs. Player Dos
This was not good. They try to work a classic face/heel match, but Delirious sucks by now and Dos is not great at selling with the mask on. They do some stuff, and SSB are on their way out by now, I think, so Delirious wins with UMB's Praying Mantis Bomb.
*3/4

Match #3: The Osirian Portal/Hallowicked/Frightmare vs. Team F.I.S.T./The Badd Boys

The Badd Boys are 2.0 dressed up as bikers and being hilarious. This wasn't great, since Akuma sucks starting with the turn of the decade pretty much and a lot of the other people try to do more complicated shit than they're capable of, which is a sentence you can use to describe the decline of CHIKARA in 2010-11. This could have used a lot more Hallowicked and Frightmare, but once they got in more at the end, this got good. Hallowicked beats Icarus with a sweet Yakuza Kick.
**1/4

In the back, The Throwbacks of Dasher Hatfield and Sugar Dunkerton cut a promo. They are excited about going for their third point tonight, but Sugar is mad. He says he doesn't like the BDK and he's insulted by their presence and they won't rip their dreams apart because they worked hard to get here. He says it's not luck tonight, it's skill, and they can't call it luck when they win tonight.

Match #4: Claudio Castagnoli/Ares vs. The Throwbacks [2]
UGH ARES. I'm starting to think that BDK was actually a really good storyline, but the presence of Ares is what killed it. He is so completely dull in every way, and it's a testament to Claudio that he's able to carry him to something decent. It also bodes well for the Claudio/Swagger team in current WWE. Dunkerton impresses me for the first time ever with a sweet Back Senton. Dasher is basically now a slightly more athletic Shane Storm as he continually tries to do stuff he's too big to do well and his main strong point is that he tries hard. Ares ends up beating Dunkerton with a shitty Tiger Driver to get their first point.
**

In the back, Tim Donst cuts a promo in front of the BDK banner. He says he knows Player Uno hates him but he doesn't hate him because he turned his back on CHIKARA and joined the BDK, no. He knows that Player Uno really hates him because when their partners beat them in the Young Lion's Cup tournament last year, he was the one who had the guts to do something about it, and he sent Hydra packing when Uno didn't have the guts to do the same to Player Dos.

Match #5: Tim Donst [c] vs. Player Uno [CHIKARA Young Lions Cup]
This was solid. It's not great since Donst is a lot more exposed as a heel given that what got him over to begin with was sympathetic selling. Uno isn't exactly great for this, as it relies on a connection to the babyface and he's mostly a spot guy. They do some cool stuff though. Uno survives two Donstitutions, but falls to Donst's sweet SDT, which is a DDT set up, but then turned into an STF.
**1/4

In the back, Eddie Kingston cuts a promo. He says Tursas is part of the BDK, and he doesn't want to do all this, but the bottom line is that he has to give him some credit. Last month, he didn't go down at all, he didn't even move. He likes that, because he's a challenge. He says he's gonna move tonight and he's gonna feel pain, because he's angry, and that means it's a bad night for Tursas.

Match #6: Eddie Kingston vs. Tursas
Kingston does his best with 4 minutes, and does really well. Tursas actually showed me a lot here. He has good big man selling while not going down and throws some decent strikes. Kingston's selling of both surprise at Tursas absorbing his best stuff and then his hurt back is fantastic. Tursas sells more for Kingston than he did last month, as he gets rocked a few times, but still doesn't go down. Claudio comes down to interfere and Tursas hits a nasty looking Splash off the middle rope to win.
**1/2

Match #7: Mike Quackenbush/Jigsaw/Jimmy Olsen/Helios vs. Brodie Lee/Vin Gerard/STIGMA/Colin Delaney

Vin is getting faaaaaaaaaaaaaat. This was great though. Took a few minutes to get going, but all the babyfaces were super crisp and smooth with all their elaborate highspots, and the heels did alright. Nobody in the UnStable is blowing the world away, but they did their thing well, and Brodie was great. They did the classic CHIKARA multi-man style with multiple and very different control segment. BRODIE LEE DOES A TOPE SUICIDA. Some sloppiness from sTIGMA, but everyone else was good. Quack beats Delaney with the Quackendriver I.

CHIKARA A World Of Comforting Illusions
February 28th, 2010
Pottsville, PA

This a really cool and intimate venue. Very close in look and feel to The Staircase in Pittston from CHIKARA's past.

Match #1: The Throwbacks vs. Vin Gerard/STIGMA
Well, this sucked. Lots of just doing stuff, and Dasher Hatfield rolls up STIGMA to win.
*1/2

Match #2: Brodie Lee vs. Green Ant

Awesome short match. Brodie MURDERS Green Ant, who continues to impress for a rookie. Green Ant has this wonderful flurry at the end of roll ups and headbutt based attacks, but Brodie shuts him down with DAT BOOT. Green Ant surprisingly kicks out of that, but then is immediately beaten with the Liger Bomb.
**1/2

Match #3: Hallowicked/Frightmare vs. Sara Del Rey/Daizee Haze [1]

I liked this a lot more, since Frightmare's lack of size or strength made it much easier to buy Haze getting in real offense. He was pretty sympathetic against SDR too, and SDR/Hallowicked RULED. Sara keeps giving Frightmare Piledrivers and makes no attempt to pin him, so the referee DQs them for excessive punishment, and they're back down to 0 points.
**1/4

Match #4: Claudio Castagnoli/Ares [1] vs. The Osirian Portal vs. The Super Smash Bros. vs. The Badd Boys [2] [Elimination Match]

This is not bad. The Badd Boys, again, are 2.0 as awful bikers. Claudio is one of the best in the world, as he's been since 2007, so everything he does here looks great and he's easily the best guy in the company at this point. Him vs. high flyers like Dos and both Portal members is especially great. SSB/Portal rules again also. They force another lame dance-off segment. Cool in 2008. Tired in 2009. Awful in 2010. The Portal are out first after Ares' Tiger Bomb. This goes on way too long. Nobody in this but Claudio is equipped to go 20 minutes. 2.0 vs. SSB is pretty alright, and SSB eliminate them. SSB vs. Swiss Money Holding is then decent. Well, no. SSB vs. Claudio is very good. SSB vs. Ares sucks. Take the average and it's decent. Claudio makes Uno tap to the Reverse CHIKARA Special, and BDK now have three points and can go for the titles. :(
**1/2

In the back, Eddie Kingston cuts a promo. He says this is a new building, but he has an old enemy tonight in Gran Akuma. He says he's happy for this match, and says they don't like each other. A lot of people don't like him, and that's fine, but he knows they're gonna hit each other hard. He says he dropped Akuma on his head hard, but every morning he wakes up, he has trouble feeling his left arm because of the top rope Yoshi Tonic four years ago, but that bonds them. He says he doesn't care about CHIKARA, and if it goes under, he'll just go somewhere else, but he wants Claudio Castagnoli to watch this match. He says he won't get crazy. He doesn't understand the BDK thing, but he doesn't care about the promotion or the fans, but he doesn't like him or respect him. He says he respects Akuma, and tells Claudio to then imagine what he's got coming. LAST OF A DYING BREED. HOLLA.

Match #5: Eddie Kingston vs. Gran Akuma
Fantastic King carryjob. He hits hard, sells AMAZINGLY, and guides a barely mobile Akuma to a really fun 10 minute slugfest. Going with his promo, Eddie Kingston even sells nerve damage in his left arm after being hit hard and dropped on his neck at one point. Someone this great being stuck in the CHIKARA system is such a travesty. Akuma had some bad stuff, but I thought King was great enough here to push it just over the edge. Kingston hits two Sliding D's for the win.
***

Kingston yells that he and Claudio ain't done.

In the back, Lince Dorado, Tim Donst, and Pinkie Sanchez cut a promo with Tursas behind them in front of the BDK banner. Lince says 2009 was supposed to be his year. He had The Future is Now behind him, but they abandoned him and tossed him aside for Jigsaw. Donst says just like him, Lince Dorado did the best thing for himself and he's a better man for it. Donst says tonight they're going to show their former friends why break-ups hurt.

Match #6: Mike Quackenbush/Jigsaw/Helios/Jimmy Olsen vs. Lince Dorado/Tim Donst/Pinkie Sanchez/Tursas
This had a lot of really really good parts, but it was WAY too long. They tried to do the thing with multiple control segments to stretch it to nearly 20 minutes. This has always worked well for CHIKARA in the past, but there's usually been someone on the heel side like Hero, Claudio, Sweeney, FIST, etc. who can direct traffic. They didn't have that here and they struggled to fill time on offense, so it felt like a chore until the finishing run. 90% of that ruled, but then because this is going too long, you notice people hanging around waiting for spots. Tursas slams Helios on the floor and rolls him in. Lince hits the Shooting Star Press to win.
**3/4

In the back, UltraMantis Black and Delirious cut a promo. UMB says The Order has a two stage plan. Tonight, they win the championships. He says Delirious has led them to these three points and praises his sheer brutality and savagery. He says he is the perfect weapon, and he will being them the Campeonatos Des Parejas, and in April, stage two will be winning the King of Trios, and his plan will be complate!

Match #7: Fire Ant/Soldier Ant [c] vs. UltraMantis Black/Delirious [CHIKARA Campeonatos Des Parejas]
Two out of three falls, as with all CDP matches. I liked this more than Colony/FIST, since this was at least only 15-16 minutes and knew it's place as a mostly angle driven match. Basic heel/face stuff, and Fire and Soldier are much more on form here than in January. They sort of telegraph that something's going to be up, since they do all their big stuff in the first fall. But hey, still ruled. Fire Ant had a great hot tag AND HE WAS A HOUSE OF FIRE. FUCK YOU, I SAID IT. Fire Ant rolls up Delirious to go 1-0, but then Delirious snaps and lays them both out. Ares comes out with the stupid fucking Eye of Tyr, and Delirious goes insane. He runs out the back door, and Soldier rolls up a confused UMB to win. TWO STRAIGHT SON.
**1/2

Ares smiles, and UMB chases after Delirious.

There's a reason this is the show that made me give up on CHIKARA in 2010.

CHIKARA Wit, Verve, And A Bit O' Nerve
March 20th, 2010
Easton, PA

Faggot Gavin Loudspeaker is preparing to open the show with a song, but Claudio Castagnoli and Ares come out and break his guitar. FINALLY. Ares yells in German, and Claudio demands that The Colony comes out right now so they can win the titles right now. The Colony comes to the ring, but the rest of the BDK then comes out to surround them! The other babyfaces come out to even it up, and evil Director of Fun Dieter Von Steigerwalt comes out and says the match will take place later. The BDK then bails out.

Match #1: Los Ice Creams vs. Sara Del Rey/Daizee Haze
Los Ice Creams deliver again. They have the best comedy act in the fed. It's so basic, the lovable Mexican cheaters with ridiculous masks, but they commit so well and do it with such energy and comedic timing that it's the best CHIKARA act ever. BDK do their thing, and eh, whatever. They win with SDR's Piledriver followed by Haze's German Suplex. My problems with this remain, Haze is way too small for this to work like they want.
**1/4

Match #2: Tursas vs. Green Ant

Green Ant is again totally destroyed and is so great at it. He has some great hope spots, and Tursas throwing a gigantic Lariat is literally the moment that allows me to say I've become a fan of him now. Green Ant dies some more, and Tursas hits a Standing Razor's Edge to win. Tursas still has not left his feet.
**

Match #3: The Osirian Portal vs. Vin Gerard/STIGMA

They tried super hard. Credit to them there, but this isn't going achieve greatness. Lots of dives and highspots, etc. The UnStable's control segment is a lull as usual since even when motivated, it's like 2013 Wade Barrett, and nobody cares or believes they will win anything. Finishing run is good, and Amasis hits a Rolling Elbow and then cradles Gerard for the win and 1 point.
**3/4

In the back, Vin Gerard uncharacteristically thanks The Portal for a good match tonight, and shakes their hands.

In the back, Lince Dorado cuts a promo in front of the BDK banner. He says he knows Jimmy Olsen, as opponents and a tag team partner, and they were very successful. He says they had three points, but Jimmy lost their title match. They got to the semi-finals of KOT, but they lose. Because of him. He says they're actually in the future NOW, and he'll continue to be better than Jimmy Olsen.

Match #4: Jimmy Olsen vs. Lince Dorado
RULED. Constant action for 10 minutes, and a nice clash of strikes between a striker and a flippy guy. Lince has this great new act where the BDK announce has a scorecard on the floor and gives him 10s for all his flips and dives, and 0s for Olsen's. Near the end, Lince pulls a security guy in the way of Olsen's Tope Suicida to injure him. Back in the ring, Lince hits a Flipping DDT and the Shooting Star Press to win.
***

2.0 vs. The Badd Boyz is supposed to happen in a Losers Leave Town match as set up by Evil BDK Director of Fun, and The Badd Boyz come out. 2.0's music hits, and they never come out. The Badd Boyz win by forefit, but they take off their bandannas and admit that they're 2.0! WHOA! He says they debuted as funny guys, but it didn't win a lot of match, so they put on all this to reinvent themselves. They say they've won because they started being themselves, and they call themselves 3.0 now because they're improved. Fucking CHIKARA always has to rebrand people, and it always comes off so blatant and unnecessary. They made Ricochet put in a mask and be Helios, Jimmy Olsen had to be Equinox, they made Stupefied put on a mask and be Player Dos, etc. Team F.I.S.T. comes out and says this is all stupid, and they can change their names all the want, but they don't have any heart and they're idiot goof offs, and they'll never be anything in CHIKARA. They challenge FIST to fight, but they leave. Jagged says one day, they will feel the flow of 3.0.

In the back, Tim Donst cuts a promo in front of the BDK banner. He says all the tecnicos are people who follow the fans and crave their approval, but Dasher Hatfield is even worse, because he's the one who was actually CREATED by the fans. He says he's going to crush his dream tonight, and under Dasher's mask is a scared little boy, and the reason he keeps changing his identity is because he doesn't know who he is, but Tim Donst knows who he is. BDK member. Young Lion's Cup Champion.

Match #5: Tim Donst [c] vs. Dasher Hatfield [CHIKARA Young Lion's Cup Championship]
This is good, but WAY WAY WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too long at 18 minutes. 15 is a stretch for these two, and it shows as they really struggle to fill that time with stuff. They have some good stuff in the finishing run, and I'm glad they didn't destroy their finishers just to get a better response. Dosnt escapes a Razor's Edge, and he wins with a backslide with his feet on the ropes.
**1/2

Match #6: Mike Quackenbush/Jigsaw/Hallowicked/Frightmare vs. Team F.I.S.T./UltraMantis Black/Crossbones

Good, but not great. There was too much sloppiness by Crossbones and Akuma and it held it back a lot, since it really came out in the finishing run. The others were generally good, although I would have liked to have seen more of Hallowicked in this match, but he already worked once tonight, so whatever. Big finishing run that was kind of overblown, and Frightmare beats Crossbones with the Kneecolepsy
**3/4

Quack gets on the mic, and tells Frightmare to consider entering Young Lions Cup this year, because he speaks the same language as the first ever and longest reigning YLC Champion, and Hallowicked and Frightmare speak in gibberish.

In the back, UMB goes up to Quackenbush and Jigsaw and says they all must get along now to fight the BDK. Quack says they wanted to fight, but UMB didn't, but now that BDK ruined HIS plan, he wants in. He says it's because of him and his Eye of Tyr that the BDK is here to begin with, and they don't owe him anything.

Claudio and Ares come out for the main event, and have Tursas, Lince Dorado, and Pinkie Sanchez with them. The Colony comes out, and the BDK attacks on the floor. TURSAS POWERBOMBS SOLDIER ANT INTO THE FUCKING BRICK WALL OF THE BUILDING! They throw Fire Ant in and the match starts.

Match #7: Fire Ant/Soldier Ant [c] vs. Claudio Castagnoli/Ares [CHIKARA Campeonatos Des Parejas]
ARES IMMEDIATELY HITS THE TIGER DRIVER ON A HURT FIRE ANT TO GO 1-0. GOD DAMNIT. They control Fire Ant, and Claudio vs. Fire Ant is amazing. They build REALLY well to a comeback, and I got super into the nearfalls, since because the BDK has been so dominant, I could buy a 2-0 sweep here. Lots of great great stuff, especially with Fire vs. Claudio. I jumped up when Fire kicked out of the Ricola Bomb, and I'd usually be against it, but it was such a great underdog moment and got the crowd to believe The Colony had a shot. Everything from then on ruled, but Tursas came back out to pull Bryce out after Soldier had Ares beat. Claudio was able to pick up the steps and hit Soldier with them from the floor, and he was out after that. They hit a Doomsday European Uppercut for the win and the titles. :(

CHIKARA KING OF TRIOS 2010 NIGHT ONE
APRIL 23RD, 2010
PHILADELPHIA, PA

Match #1: Team F.I.S.T./Chuck Taylor vs. Matt Classic/The Throwbacks [1st Round]

Awesome comedy opener. There's a ton of awesome Matt Classic shtick here, especially vs. Chuck Taylor, who reacts better than either of the other two heels to the stuff. It's CHIKARA and The Throwbacks, so they try and get in on the act with basketball stuff and music cues, and it's just not the same at all and very forced. Still, 80% of the comedy here was Classic stuff, so it worked. Action was fine enough, although Akuma is so very sadly immobile by now. Classic gets caught at the end with triple teams and then loses to a Yakuza Kick/Lungblower combo. FIST advances and now everyone hates them for beating Classic.
**3/4

Match #2: Mike Quackenbush/Hallowicked/Frightmare vs. Daisuke Sekimoto/Yuji Okabayashi/Kankuro Hoshino [1st Round]

Team BJW invades! They're all big strong dudes, so you have some great big/little stuff with them and Quack and especially Frightmare. They waste no time and it's basically 11-12 minutes of great stuff. Frightmare is an amazingly sympathetic face in peril as always, and the finishing run is out of this world great. SEKIMOTO HITS A DEADLIFT GERMAN TO BOTH QUACK AND FRIGHTMARE AT ONCE JESUS CHRIST. Frightmare is in a constant state of death and destruction, and Okabayashi makes him tap to the Torture Rack.
***

The BDK squad of Claudio, Ares, and Tursas was supposed to fight Team Mexico of Skayde, Turbo, and Valiente in a dream match, but the Mexican guys bailed with a lot of money and did something horrible that CHIKARA or Quack has never spoken of since (although with Quack that could be anything, since he's a lunatic). So Bryce comes out to draw names. Well Dunn is not here, and neither is Strike Force, but the Osirian Portal is! They come out, and then evil commissioner Dieter Von Steigerwalt comes out. He asks where he got his list of names and says he'll pick their third partner tonight out of his private hat of names, which of course is white. AND SARA DEL REY IS THE PORTAL'S PARTNER. GOD DAMNIT BDK. Awesome angle.

Match #3: Claudio Castagnoli/Ares/Tursas vs. The Osirian Portal/Sara Del Rey [1st Round]
Awesome angle of a match, as SDR is clearly there to cost her team the match. She openly tries to lose it whenever she's in and stops Portal double teams, and it's really interesting and unique. Lots of good stuff based around that idea, but then the finishing run has too much Ares. Claudio and Ophidian rule it at the end, AND DEL REY FINALLY GETS IN TO KICK OPHIDIAN IN THE DICK. GOD DAMNIT BDK. they then win with the incredible Ragnarok triple team. Look it up!
**3/4

Tursas splashes Ophidian after the match because heel.

Match #4: Vin Gerard/STIGMA/Colin Delaney vs. Atsushi Kotoge/Daisuke Harada/Tadasuke [1st Round]
These foreigners are from Osaka Pro. They seem alright, but it's an UnStable match in 2010, so they're outdone by the sheer contempt for effort and crowd heat that is the UnStable. Harada beats Delaney with a Bridging German, and that's over now.
**

In the back, Team AIW of Johnny Gargano (BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO) and Aeroform cuts a promo. As usual, Gargano throws out every cliche he can think of. He says they're on the same page of the same book, but he looked ahead, and they beat The Colony tonight and win the entire tournament.

Match #5: The Colony vs. Johnny Gargano/Aeroform [1st Round]
Aeroform yet again got exposed as they did all over the Northeast in 2010, so this isn't great. Gargano at least has the fluidity to do stuff between spots. Lots of awkward awkward stuff from Aeroform when in control, but it picked up at the end because The Colony are great at hot tags, and all Aeroform can do is choreographed spots, and it works better here. Fire Ant beats Kendrick with the Beach Break.
**1/4

Match #6: Tim Donst/Lince Dorado/Pinkie Sanchez vs. Arik Cannon/The North Star Express [1st Round]

Really great stuff. Textbook heel/face stuff, and they make the 18 minute length work for them by having some fun schticky stuff early on with the heels stooging a lot as midcard heels should do. The BDK takes over, and Lince especially shines. Donst is alright, and Pinkie brings the best heeling, so they work really well as a trio. Cannon and the NSE are a fun babyface act and the BDK gets over by eliminating them. Great finishing run, and Pinkie puts Ryan Cruz in the Inverted CHIKARA Special to win.
***

Match #7: Curry Man/Los Ice Creams vs. El Oriental/Alebrije/Cuije [1st Round]

I am not familiar with these Mexicans, BUT DAT CURRY MAN/LIC TEAM! Los Ice Creams continue to be the best ever pure comedy CHIKARA team, and their stuff works EVERY time without fail. Cuije is a skinny midget, so Los Ice Creams can do heel midget spots. this is my favorite match yet. So god damned entertaining. On top of midget violence, you have Oriental being a solid luchador and Curry Man existing. The two normal sized human beings launch Cuije up into a splash on an Ice Cream to win. Fuck it, LOVED this.
***

Match #8: Jigsaw/Jimmy Olsen/Helios vs. The Young Bucks/Malachi Jackson [1st Round]

This was as good as a Malachi match will get. Ever. Like, it wasn't a total abortion and ended up being a really entertaining spotfest. The Bucks barely let Malachi in the ring and treated him like a piece of shit, which was appropriate. He didn't totally shit his pants like usual, so good for him. They did lots of cool stuff early on before Olsen got worked over. It wasn't amazing, but then the finishing run was really great, and ended at the right time, which is a great improvement for the Bucks. Shame it doesn't last. Malachi gets killed with the Overbomb, Mad Scientist Bomb, and finally, Helios' 630 to give the faces the win.

CHIKARA KING OF TRIOS 2010 NIGHT TWO
APRIL 24TH, 2010
PHILADELPHIA, PA

Brodie Lee comes out and issues an open challenge. Grizzly Redwood accepts it, to try and avenge his failure in 2009.

Match #1: Brodie Lee vs. Grizzly Redwood
fun squash for Brodie. He kills Grizzly for three minutes, before giving him like 30 seconds of offense. Brodie catches him off the top with a majestic Black Hole Slam, and then wins with DAS BOOT.
**

Match #2: Jigsaw/Jimmy Olsen/Helios vs. Daisuke Sekimoto/Yuji Okbayashi/Kankuro Hoshino [Quarterfinals]

Another awesome match in the tournament, which I clearly underrated. Like the match the BJW guys had on the last show, but with crazier offense. They isolate Olsen in the first half with some truly mind blowing power stuff from all three, especially DICE-K, and then the match completely devolves into lunacy after the hot tag. Jigsaw and Olsen hit Stereo Tope Suicidas but when Helios tries a Sasuke Special, DICE-K SEKIMOTO CATCHES HIM IN THE AIR FOR A BRIDGING GERMAN TO WIN. GOD DAMN.
***

Match #3: Matt Cross vs. Amasis vs. Flip Kendrick vs. Malachi Jackson [Rey De Voladores Qualifier]

SO BAD. Fucking M-DOGG vs. Kendrick vs. Malachi is both completely ludicrous with all the botching and also super super boring at the same time. Amasis did what he could and at least made it to the final two men, but holy shit, this was BAD. It continues the weird thing where RDV is awesome in odd numbered years and horrible in even numbered ones. And because even as they impress me with a lot of stuff in 2010, CHIKARA has to find a way to reaffirm that we were all right to stop giving a shit about them in 2010, Cross beats Amasis with a Standing SSP. What the fuck? Who is pushing Matt Cross in 2010? He hasn't been relevant since he was in ROH in 2007, and bombed there too. Where is this coming from? Does he have something over Quack?
*1/2

In the back, the Mexicans cut a promo in Mexican.

Match #4: Claudio Castagnoli/Ares/Tursas vs. El Oriental/Alebrije/Cuije [Quarterfinals]
They tell a story on commentary that Evil Commissioner had this set up in the bracket, so the BDK team of monsters could fight a team with a midget on it. This was a total decimation to get BDK even more over, and I don't think Ares ever got in, so that ruled. Oriental is nuked by Claudio's power, Tursas destroys Alebrije, the biggest man on the other side. The midget is then trapped and Tursas KILLS him with a Big Splash to win.
**1/4

Match #5: Christopher Daniels vs. Hallowicked

This was a Chris Daniels match. Technically sound and had a good finishing run, but just so mechanical and robotic at points that nothing really happens. Just two good wrestlers wrestling a match without a ton of story or anything. Daniels goes to the eyes, before hitting a Uranage and the BME for the win.
**3/4

Match #6: Team F.I.S.T./Chuck Taylor vs. Atsushi Kotoge/Daisuke Harada/Tadasuke [Quarterfinals]

Good stuff. Chuck and Icarus do what they can to guide Akuma, and the Japanese guys show up with lots of killer highspots to uncork in the final 5 minutes to take this from average to very entertaining. One of them rolls up Chuck for a surprising win.
***

Match #7: Ophidian vs. Rich Swann vs. Frightmare vs. Cheech [Rey De Voladores Qualifier]

This was better! Swann didn't become a total lunatic until 2011, but he shows potential here like in the early EVOLVE stuff. He's out first following Kneecolepsy and this is a really well put together spotfest. Ophidian rolls up Cheech, and the final is Ophidian vs. Frightmare. They go totally nuts and deliver on the promise of their 2009 match. Ophidian has to break out the Egyptian Destroyer for the win.
***

In the back, the BDK team of Donst, Lince, and Pinkie cuts a promo in front of the BDK banner. Donst says he knew they would make it this far, but he never figured The Colony would. He says he's a little happy because of how easy it will be, and says Pinkie beat Green Ant, and they've beaten The Colony at everything in 2010 so far. He says Soldier Ant will never hold the Young Lion's Cup because he's a failure, and the finals is going to be BDK vs. BDK.

Match #8: The Colony vs. Tim Donst/Lince Dorado/Pinkie Sanchez [Quarterfinals]
This should have been great. The reaction at the end is a triumph of booking, but the match just didn't work. The BDK guys were all off in a big way tonight, especially Lince who usually guides these with great offense and bumping. The Colony did their stuff, but BDK never really took over like they should have, so it was more or less 19 minutes of stuff and like half of it clicked like it should have. But at the end, Soldier gets Donst in the CHIKARA Special for the submission, and it's the first time BDK has lost any match by pin or submission.

CHIKARA KING OF TRIOS 2010 NIGHT THREE
APRIL 25TH, 2010
PHILADELPHIA, PA

Match #1: The Colony vs. Atsushi Kotoge/Daisuke Harada/Tadasuke [Semi-Finals]

This was solid. They didn't go insane since the winners have to work again, but it was a decent opener. The foreigners had a decent control segment, and The Colony got to do their great hot tag segment going into a really good finishing run. Ends a little prematurely, but the finish is amazing. The Colony hits an Antapult Splash off the top rope, catapulting Green Ant into a Flying Splash while both other stand up top, and it pins one of the foreigners.
**1/2

The Colony are now in the finals, and CHIKARA fans have been clamoring for them to win this since 2008, so this is great. They totally turned on the Lince Dorado team in 2008 for beating The Colony in the Semi-Finals, and FIST got mega tons of heat in 2009 when they kept The Colony out of KOT by injuring their third. Them winning finally is going to be an amazing moment, because CHIKARA surely knows that if they lose here again so soon after losing the tag titles, they're basically destroying their momentum and getting them!

Match #2: Claudio Castagnoli/Ares/Tursas vs. Daisuke Sekimoto/Yuji Okabayashi/Kankuro Hoshino [Semi-Finals]
The result is obvious, but the match was very very good. All the Sekimoto power spots kicked ass, and Claudio and Tursas killed it with their power spots too. The other BJW guys hung in well and didn't embarrass themselves at all, and the BDK had some very good control segments too. So what held it back? Same thing that holds back this entire BDK angle and as a result, CHIKARA in 2010. Too much Ares. He gets most of the finishing run time and nothing he does feels important or urgent at all, so the super hot crowd just dies because there's nothing to react to. Ares beats Hoshino with the Tiger Driver.
**3/4

In the back, Chuck Taylor cuts a promo, and is finally doing a singles match! He says The Kentucky Gentleman's done it all here. Rey De Voladingos, Young Lions Cup, King of Trios. He asks what El Oriental has done, and says nothing, and all he'll do tonight is lose.

CHUCK COMES OUT TO "HEY SANDY" AGAIN! YEAH!

Match #3: Chuck Taylor vs. El Oriental
Oriental is decent enough for Chuck to play with. This got shat on, but this is because a lot of your reall bad ROHBot fans migrated around in early 2010, and it caused a lot of reactions like that to stuff in CHIKARA and falling in love with mindless PWG spotfests, because now without a top level spotty indy, they had to spread out and it really did a lot of damage to the indy scene, as now fans kind of suck everywhere to some extent (PWG sometimes being the exception). Anyways, there's not a lot wrong here, it's just Oriental guiding Chuck on the mat and then doing some fun lucha. Chuck starts using more American stuff and works on the leg. Oriental doesn't sell the limb well because he's a Mexican in the US, but Chuck keeps at it. He puts on the Killer Crab for the win. Selling was the only thing that held this back at all.
**3/4

Match #4: THE 2010 CHIKARA KING OF TRIOS INSANE TAG TEAM GAUNTLET!

-#1 is The Throwbacks
-#2 is The UnStable of Vin Gerard and STIGMA
-Not the greatest start
-Sloppy and lame, but it's at least short
-Vin rolls up Sugar Dunkerton with the ropes to win
-#3 IS DRAGON DRAGON AND STEVE THE TURTLE WEINER
-THIS IS MY DREAM TEAM
-BEST IN CHIKARA HISTORY
-DRAGON DRAGON AND STIGMA DO A FIGHTING SPIRIT EXCHANGE
-DRAGON SCREW!
-DRAGON SUPLEX!
-DRAGON SLEEPER!
-TOTAL ELIMINATION WITH A BUTT BUT FROM TURTLE AND A TAIL WHIP FROM DRAGON!
-I'M MARKIN OUT BRO

-#4 is Helios and Jimmy Olsen
-DIVES!
-They're an awesome team and run through their stuff.
-Jimmy beats Vin with a Piledriver
-#5 is Aeroform
-They fuck up as always.
-Luckily it's short and Jimmy Olsen knocks the blacker one out with DAT PUNCH to win
-#6 is The North Star Express!
-This one is a wonderful face/face match.
-THROWBACK SLOW MO SPOT! YES!
-THEY DO THE RVD/LYNN EXCHANGE IN SLOW MO!
-Cruz blocks a schoolboy into his own pin to win!
-#7 is UltraMantis Black and Crossbones
-They get like 5 minutes and everyone is trying hard
-Mantis does a dive and shit!
-CROSSBONES DOES A STANDING ENGUIZURI WHAT THE SHIT
-UMB wins with the Praying Mantis Bomb
-#8 is Hallowicked and Frightmare
-They immediately go wild with stuff and Hallowicked beats Bones with a Yakuza Kick
-#9 is Team FIST
-This gets like seven minutes, and is a legit great match on its own
-Lots of good FIST stuff on Frightmare
-Frightmare blocks the Blu Ray into a Crucifix Driver for the win!
-#10 is Sara Del Rey and Daizee Haze
-BDK getting the last spot is another COLLUSION~ moment
-Some fun stuff from the BDK
-They tease the repeated Piledrivers finish from February, but Hallowicked saves now
-HALLOWICKED PINS HAZE WITH THE RYDEEN BOMB! YEAH!
-Fake Incoherence now has 4 points and will challenge for the tag belts!
-Super entertaining as usual, although yet again the 2007 one still hasn't been topped
***

In the back, Eddie Kingston cuts a promo. He says he knows what people are saying, that he's not focused anymore, that he's repeating himself over and over, and as of late, his confidence has been at an all-time low. It's because of the BDK, and he didn't think it would be that hard. He thought he'd run through Tursas, beat Lince worse than he actually did, all those guys, but he hasn't. So he kept repeating himself, sure. But nobody gets it when everyone stares at you, and expects your help to be THAT guy, to be the savior. He's used to being left alone, and he wasn't prepared. Last weekend, he gets to looking at himself in the mirror and realizes he's hopeless. And it means nothing's changed because he's still miserable, angry, and he's been like that his whole life, and he forgot that because of them. He says tonight, he has a man who he looks at as a big name. And he feels a little bad about what he's gonna do to him now that the War King is back.

Match #5: Christopher Daniels vs. Eddie Kingston
This was great, and more like a classic Daniels match that you'd see 10 years ago everywhere. Really cimple idea with him working over the neck, but he keeps that singular focus and Kingston sells it really really well. They then do a lot of cool counters in the finishing run, which Daniels is still good at, but he's like Jericho a lot in that he's lost motivation in the ring and only really cares about that finishing run. But now he's laid groundwork so it feels earned. King wins with the Backfist to the Future.
***

Tommy Dreamer comes out to the ring and puts over the promotion. Tommy actually makes the attempt to make this speech seem authentic by dropping details about the show, which is a nice touch. He says he's here as a little surprise, to continue a tradition of surprises in this building. He says he knows Eddie Kingston was influenced by him, and being in this building, he's reminiscing a little bit, and remembers what Terry Funk did for him by taking him under his wing, and he'd like to try and do that for Eddie Kingston. He says there's a show on May 23rd in Union City, NJ, and he's challenging Eddie Kingston! Kingston shakes his head and opens the ropes for him to leave, but Tommy first unzips his jacket to reveal a CHIKARA t-shirt.

Match #6: Mike Quackenbush/Jigsaw vs. The Young Bucks
This ruled. The Bucks work heel against babyfaces who are actually good, and because it's CHIKARA, they stay under 15 minutes. Plus, Quack and Jig working totally different than the usual Bucks opponents made the Bucks actually change it up, and when they were motivated and channeled by a veteran who knows his shit in Quack, they were a legit great team. This is infuriating because they could be this good ALL THE TIME, and just choose not to. Killer finishing run full of cool counters and spots, and the Spike Jig n' Tonic wins for the hometown guys.
***1/4

Match #7: Ophidian vs. Matt Cross [2010 Rey De Voladores Finals]

Cross again shits the bed. This proves the curse of RDV definitively. It was awesome in 2007 and 2009, and sucked in 2008. Now it sucks, so it's only good in odd years. It being good in 2011 proves this even further. Ophidian tries, but he's not great and can't carry the black hole of suck that is Matt Cross. Cross was around during the golden age of indy wrestling, has been everywhere, and wrestled most big names that have been on the indies in the last 10-15 years. Now that that's there in your head, name a good Matt Cross singles match. It can't fucking be done. Ophidian gets a cradle to win after 14 minutes of nothing. Fuck this match.
3/4*

In the tecnico locker room, Mike Quackenbush gives The Colony a speech. He says it's been a dark four months for CHIKARA, but it's always darkest just before the dawn, and the dawn is coming. He says they beat the BDK for the first time ever last night, and asks them to do it for all of them. Soldier Ant yells "SIR, YES, SIR!" and The Colony marches out. Jigsaw asks why he hasn't taught anyone the counter to the BDK's Inverted CHIKARA Special. Quack is confused, and then looks depressed before saying that there isn't one.

Match #8: The Colony vs. Claudio Castagnoli/Ares/Tursas [2010 KING OF TRIOS FINALS]
This should have failed, but it's a testament to the booking and the performances of The Colony and Claudio that it didn't. It was all action for like 14 minutes which has hurt CHIKARA matches a lot before and since, but it worked once they got to a certain point, and it got CRAZY. The Colony tried the Super Antapult deal that worked in the opener, BUT CLAUDIO INTERCEPTED IT WITH A EUROPEAN UPPERCUT HOLY FUCK. The BDK then went wild with stuff, but The Colony kept surviving. They had a sweet comeback, AND FIRE ANT CLIMBED UP THE BEAM OF THE ARENA NEAR THE RAMP AND DOVE OFF ONTO EVERYONE! They then have some amazing nearfalls and spots, and I legit got into it by the end. Bryce is bumped, but recovers to count 2 on the Tiger Driver. SO TURSAS INTENTIONALLY SPLASHES BRYCE WHAT THE FUCK?! THE COLONY HITS ARES WITH THE ANT HILL AND HAS IT! FORMER REFEREE DEREK SABATO RUNS OUT TO COUNT, BUT STOPS AT 2 AND JUST GETS UP! They confront him, BUT CLAUDIO AND TURSAS HIT THE COLONY WITH LOW BLOWS AND SABATO SHRUGS! THEY HIT FIRE ANT WITH RAGNAROK AND SABATO DOES THE FASTEST THREE COUNT EVER!
***1/4

Sabato makes the BDK sign with everyone, and the rest of BDK comes out to celebrate. I really liked the booking of adding an evil referee here. They've shown now that they CAN be beaten, so now they have insurance and have another hurdle for babyfaces to overcome. The choice of the Colony to do it is harmful though, as now they've been screwed twice to establish the BDK and never really achieve any revenge, making them into the Booker T/Bill Goldberg to BDK's Evolution or the A+ to the BDK's Big Evil, since that cocksucker doesn't read this because indies terrify him or something.

Match #1: Green Ant vs. Amasis

Solid little match for the time it got, but clearly not the best they can do. It feels like a step backwards after his awesome King of Trios showings for Green Ant to go back to working sort of a Trial Series type of match, but he's really good at it. Amasis is fun, but only going 7 minutes really hurt this. Amasis hits kind of a shitty Rolling Elbow for the win.
**

In the back, The Throwbacks cut a promo. Sugar doesn't want to face Daizee Haze and says he's going to melt her cold heart with some hot chocolate.

Match #2: The Throwbacks vs. Daizee Haze/Tursas
This was decent, but again, fuck the Throwbacks. Their comedy again is so incredibly forced and falls flat for me every single time. Daizee keeps getting hit on by Sugar and is unreceptive. Haze was herself again, but I did enjoy Tursas' stuff, again being a great unstoppable force. He uses a CROSSBODY OF MANLINESS~ on Dasher for the win.
*3/4

Tursas hits Dunkerton with a Big Splash, and Haze is pleased.

Match #3: Ophidian vs. STIGMA
Ophidian did literally the best that he could, but STIGMA stopped being any good around early 2009, and him doing some older Shane Storm offense, while a nice throwback to when he at least cared enough for it to even out his sloppiness, doesn't really help him out here now that he's half assing even his own existence. STIGMA breaks out That Japanese Move for the win, and they make a big deal about this being a clean match.
**

Match #4: Jimmy Olsen/Helios vs. Tim Donst/Lince Dorado

We finally get something awesome! Lince being a cocky show off piece of shit and Donst being lazier is a nice contrast. The finishing run was AMAZING and one of the better finishing runs in recent CHIKARA. Helios has a fantastic dive, Olsen throws his beautiful punches and power offense, Lince is insane. Donst is there, I guess. BDK hit one of the most spectacular double team spots ever when Helios was standing on Lince's shoulders as he does from time to time, but Donst then hit a Doomsday Device from that position. The nearfalls were really great too, AND HOLY SHIT, HELIOS BEATS LINCE WITH THE SHOOTING STAR PRESS! YES! BDK LOSES FUCK YEAH.
***1/4

Match #5: Fire Ant vs. Pinkie Sanchez

This ruled, because Fire Ant again comes through and brings the HATE~ to a grudge match like this when others in CHIKARA won't. He has a ton of fire (duh), hits hard, sells well, had a great dive, and lots of tangible charisma even through the mask. One of the real casualties of Quack refusing to let his best guys like Fire, Hallowicked, Jigsaw, etc. wrestle in other big name indies often is these super talented guys almost never getting to really branch out. Anyways, Sanchez puts on the Inverted CHIKARA Special, and Fire Ant ends up actually passing out instead of tapping. Ares still drags this down, but I'm really impressed with the different ways CHIKARA finds to put guys over in defeat like this to give them smaller victories.
***

UltraMantis Black vs. Ares is set to happen, but right after the bell, Ares has BDK Ring Announcer bring out DELIRIOUS IN ALL WHITE! NO (I GUESS)! He's clearly brainwashed by the Eye of Tyr, and UMB is thrown off in a big way.

Match #6: UltraMantis Black vs. Ares
Crossbones is also on the floor in UMB's corner. so much of this is about the angle, and I'd say the match suffers, but it's an Ares match so it was never going to be good. UMB keeps trying to free Delirious on the floor, but Area keeps saying he belongs to him now. Ares uses a dog whistle to wake up Delirious on the floor, and he beats the shit out of Crossbones and lays him out. He distracts UMB and Ares gets a roll up to win.
*1/2

Match #7: Mike Quackenbush/Jigsaw/Hallowicked/Frightmare vs. Chuck Taylor/Gran Akuma/Vin Gerard/Colin Delaney

This is another fun eight man where the heels clearly have no chance since it's a non BDK heel team in 2010. Looking at the length of this, at some 22-23 minutes, it seems like it drags on, but they use the perfect eight man structure of four feeling out segments and some comedy to make the first half fly by before the heels take over. The goal is making Hallowicked and Frightmare look great going into their Tag Title match on the next show, and it worked. Vin Gerard seemed like he cared, so that was great, which meant Chuck had some help on the heel side. The finishing run had lots of solid work and Frightmare beats Gerard with Kneecolepsy.

Match #1: Jimmy Olsen/Helios vs. The Super Smash Bros. vs. Chuck Taylor/Gran Akuma vs. 3.0

3.0 now have Zubaz style tights, which is horrible. 3.0 and FIST have some tension after the angle from a few months ago. This is a really fun match. Great mix of comedy from 3.0 and Chuck and actual wrestling from Chuck, Olsen, Helios, SSB, etc. Things pick up huge with the SSB hot tag. Uno has a SWEET Tope Suicida, and then Dos goes nuts with stuff. He Superkicks Helios, but Jimmy catches him with DAT PUNCH for the elimination. Shortly after, Akuma eliminates 3.0 with a shitty Frog Splash. Finishing two is pretty great. Jimmy knocks out Chuck with DAT PUNCH and Helios hits a Standing SSP to win. AND HELIOS AND OLSEN HAVE THREE POINTS NOW! FUCK YEAH!
***

Match #2: Fire Ant vs. Lince Dorado

Fire Ant delivers another amazing BDK grudge match. It's sort of upsetting how this is becoming CHIKARA's best year ever on a consistent match quality basis, but dudes like Fire Ant, Olsen, Helios, Lince, etc. are totally knocking it out of the park with these opportunities, in addition to Quack and Claudio carrying dudes as usual and Jigsaw and Hallowicked being great still. Fire's stuff is all great, and Lince's control segment on the back is fantastic. Fire Ant has a great comeback, and Lince wins clean with a SSP on the back. :( Lince deserves wins, but I'm begging for The Colony to beat the BDK at ANYTHING.
***

Match #3: Vin Gerard vs. Amasis

This was another surprisingly good match in this UnStable/Portal feud. Gerard works this totally clean, basically just doing a face/face match. Stuff happens, and they have some really nice back and forth work. Colin Delaney is on commentary and gets mad at Vin not cheating. There's a double down and as the ref checks on Vin, Colin comes down and hits the Orton Punt on Amasis behind the ref's back. Vin covers for the win.
**1/2

In the back, The Portal argues with The UnStable, and Vin didn't know about the interference. They agree to a match with the Portal vs. Vin/STIGMA, and Vin says they don't need Colin. Don't care.

Match #4: Mike Quackenbush/Jigsaw/The Throwbacks vs. Tursas/Pinkie Sanchez/Sara Del Rey/Daizee Haze
There's a lot holding this back, namely The Throwbacks and Haze, so this is only average. Quack and Jigsaw and Pinkie all did lots of cool stuff, and Tursas continues to look great as the brick wall of the BDK. Tursas continues to stay vertical throughout everything, and Jigsaw beats Sanchez with the Jig n' Tonic in kind of an upset.
**1/2

Match #5: Tim Donst [c] vs. Soldier Ant [CHIKARA Young Lions Cup Championship]

This is another Donst YLC match that is good, but not great, because he doesn't really work as a top level heel. He can't fill time with stuff and make it feel important, so you have to turn it into a big display of offense back and forth, but he also struggles at that. He was a great sympathetic underdog babyface as a rookie and in a face tag team, but he's really not cut out to be a top guy like this. This was the best of the YLC matches so far though, so I'll give them that. Donst makes Soldier pass out to the Inverted CHIKARA Special.
**3/4

Match #6: Claudio Castagnoli/Ares [c] w/ Delirious vs. Hallowicked/Frightmare [CHIKARA Campeonatos Des Parejas]

RULED. Delirious is sent out and assaults "Incoherence" on the floor. He beats on Fightmare with the chain and since BDK Ref Derek Sabato is given the match, he won't call anything. Delirious rolls Frightmare in, and Claudio pins him to go 1-0. Bryce's freaking out helps this a ton, especially when Sabato lets the BDK cheat like crazy. Frightmare is an awesome FIP. Finishing run is amazing, as Sabato's counts get slower and slower for the faces, and the crowd reaction is insane. Frightmare gets thrown up and grabs onto the lighting rig before dropping down with a Snap Rana in a thing of beauty. Ares hits the Tiger Driver on Frightmare though, and Sabato does a fast count to help the BDK win at 2-0.
***

Match #7: Eddie Kingston vs. Tommy Dreamer

This was solid. They were clearly having a lot of fun, so good for them. This is only 12 minutes and a set up to another match later down the line, so for that, it was solid enough. Kingston wants to prove himself on the level of his role model, and Tommy gradually gets more aggressive. There's a ref bump, and Derek Sabato comes out to replace Bryce. He distracts Tommy, so Tommy grabs him, and Sabato gives Kingston the win via DQ, giving him what he wants, but robbing him of his big moment. Fantastic.
**1/2

Claudio and Ares come out to attack Kingston and Dreamer, but they run them off. They catch the BDK announcer though, and Dreamer hits the Spicolli Driver! Tommy gets on the mic and mentions how Kingston looked up to him as a kid, and the BDK ruined his dream tonight. He says they can do something maybe just as good, and challenges Claudio and Ares to fight he and Eddie Kingston at the Arena in July! Kingston gets on the mic and says he was on a show with Jushin Liger recently, but this is bigger for him, since Tommy was the reason he became a pro wrestler. He thanks him for everything and says it would be his honor to team with him.

CHIKARA We Must Eat Michigan's Brain
June 26th, 2010
Taylor, MI

Match #1: Mike Quackenbush vs. Green Ant

This is only six minutes, which is a huge shame, but Green Ant looks great here against a top guy. It's basically six minutes of matwork and Quack is still really awesome at hold for hold stuff. Green Ant follows his lead, and they do a lot of cool holds and reversals and what not. Quack ends up putting on a crazy Torture Half Crab with the knee against the head for the win.
**1/2

They shake hands post-match, and Green Ant asks to learn the hold.

Match #2: The Osirian Portal vs. Lince Dorado/Pinkie Sanchez
Lince again is so so great as the cocky 1997-era RVD style showoff heel. The Portal waste way too much time with the overly elaborate dancing. Amasis picks it up with a great hot tag, and Pinkie, Ophidian, and Lince all have AMAZING dives in a row to get this going. There's some questionable Portal offense that holds this back, but the BDK guys looked great here. Lince beats Amasis with some kind of crazy Snap Prawn Hold and the BDK cuts off another potential challenging team.
**3/4

The BDK keeps on the attack, BUT VIN GERARD AND STIGMA RUN OUT TO SAVE WHAT THE FUCK?!

Match #3: UltraMantis Black vs. Delirious w/ Ares
This pretty much happened. It's Delirious in 2010 in a singles match as a heel, so there's absolutely no way that this could turn out good. Ares gets involved and more things tend to happen. UMB throws Delirious into Ares on the apron and gets an O'Connor Roll for the win.
*3/4

Match #4: Fire Ant/Soldier Ant vs. The Super Smash Bros.

This is a ton of fun. Both teams have a lot of fun offense and while it's a little sketchy early on as far as crispness, they eventually get it together for a lot of cool shit. They both have mini-control segments before going crazy, and the best part of this is that because they only have 10-11 minutes, there's not really anything here that's blatant time killing, so they don't have to pretend this is about anything else but neat spots. Fire Ant hits this sweet Bicycle Punt to the face of Uno to win.
***

Match #5: Bryan Danielson vs. Eddie Kingston

At the time, I remember thinking this was easily CHIKARA's match of the year, but I also didn't watch most of their shows after KOT, so that's not really a reliable statement. Still, it's easily the best match of the Danielson indy vacation in 2010, since he actually gets someone on his level. Classic wrestler vs. striker structure, with Danielson gradually moving to break down Kingston at the knee. Kingston's leg selling is incredible as always, and they also gradually pick up the intensity really really well. Unfortunately, they only get 15 minutes and it ends abruptly, so CHIKARA even ruins this somehow. Claudio comes down and trips Eddie, and Danielson gets the small package to win.
***1/2

Claudio leaves, and Eddie gets on the mic. He puts over Danielson big time and hands him the mic. Danielson puts him over and says he can't speak much about his current situation, but thanks everyone for coming out and supporting indy wrestling and CHIKARA. Everyone then sings "The Final Countdown".

Match #6: Claudio Castagnoli/Ares/Tursas vs. Da Soul Touchaz [Marshe Rockett/Acid Jaz/Willie Richardson] w/ C-Red
FUCK YEAH SOUL TOUCHAZ. All three are really entertaining to watch, which means Ares is yet again the worst guy in a match! Claudio is Claudio, and Tursas has more really good power spots. Unfortunately, this has WAY too much Ares to be anything great, and DST never really got to break loose like they have in the past. Eddie Kingston comes out to distract Claudio in revenge, and Jaz rolls up Claudio to win!
**1/2

Why yes, CHIKARA did just hand the first loss of this BDK trio to an outside midcard trio who almost never show up and don't get pushed! No, shut up. OF COURSE they couldn't have used this to repair The Colony or put The Future is Now/Portal/SSB/whoever over really strong or establish any kind of a real threat to them. CHIKARA knows what it's doing, guys! It's all so intricately planned out! What a horrible fucking idea.

In the back, Tim Donst cuts a promo. He says he can't hate Frightmare, because he reminds him of himself. He never did any of that flippy stuff and he never won Rookie of the Year, but the way people look at him is the way they used to look at him three years ago. High fives for everyone! He loved the fans! He says it doesn't work for him anymore, and not because he wanted it to change, but because the people turned on him first. They don't care about anything or anybody and all they want is to have something to do on a Saturday night, and it's sick. He doesn't feel like fighting Frightmare tonight, and he hopes Frightmare doesn't show up. But if he comes out to the ring, HIS ring, the people won't have a chance to turn on Frightmare.

Match #7: Tim Donst [c] vs. Frightmare [CHIKARA Young Lion's Cup Championship]
This could have been great, but Tim Donst is an idiot and worked a defense vs. a guy who does nothing but flips and dives by working over his knee. Frightmare rules as this spotty kid who does all the insane shit and he did his best to sell really well, but it's clearly the first time he's ever had to do this. He also has to blow it off to get his big offense in for nearfalls. The leg never even plays in at the end, as Donst chokes out Frightmare with his wrist tape in a Sleeper Hold for the win. I at least love that finish a lot.
**1/4

Match #8: Jimmy Olsen/Helios/3.0 vs. Chuck Taylor/Icarus/Vin Gerard/STIGMA

This wasn't amazing or anything because 3.0 and 2010 UnStable for 15+ never will be, but FIST and the babyfaces did a great job of holding this together and carrying the other half of the match. Helios had a ton of amazing offense and bumps in the middle of the match and Olsen was an incredible hot tag. Chuckie T and Icarus continued to generally do their thing real well. Big finishing run of dives and moves, and Helios beats Icarus with the 630 Splash to go into their title match on the next night's show.

CHIKARA Faded Scars and Lines
June 27th, 2010
Cleveland, OH

Match #1: Tursas vs. Player Dos

Another super fun under 5 minute Tursas showcase. Dos dies for him and tries to do stuff with his flips and flippyness. Tursas yet again is unable to be knocked down by an opponent, but he leaves voluntarily at the end of this. Dos stops the Splash off the middle rope, but is unable to take him off. Tursas throws him away, AND HITS A FUCKING CROSSBODY OFF THE MIDDLE FOR THE WIN. DOS IS DEAD.
**1/2

Tursas hits a Big Splash on Player Dos for good measure.

Match #2: The Colony vs. Da Soul Touchaz w/ C-Red
This was under 10 minutes and constant action. Fire Ant is on fire yet again in a pure spotfest, and Green Ant and Soldier Ant hold their own too. DST are basically along for the ride in a Colony specialty, but are generally all really solid too. CHIKARA continues to fuck everything up in regards to booking The Colony, as Da Soul Touchaz win clean with Richardson's Flying Legdrop on Green Ant. I mean, they beat BDK too last night so it's not like it's a jobber team, but you have to question the wisdom of booking a rare outsider team that will not be around often or long over the two top trios in the company.
***

Match #3: 3.0 vs. Icarus/Chuck Taylor

This is better than 3.0 vs. FIST would have been, since the Icarus/Chuck team is the best two-man unit in the stable at this point. 3.0 isn't going to have great matches, probably ever, but this is at least a lot of fun. The crowd is finally as dead as you expect from Cleveland and it helps kill the match too. Johnny Gargano comes out to watch at the end because he's the representation of indy wrestling's decline, and Chuck gets beat with the Wheelbarrow Front Lungblower.
**1/2

In the back, Johnny Gargano cuts a promo and says he's not going to choke like Chuck Taylor just did.

Match #4: Johnny Gargano vs. Player Uno
The point of this is to put Gargano over big, and Uno does a great job. He gives him a lot of offense and tries his best to contain Gargano's horrible offense that he was using at this time. I mean, his offense is still pretty awful in 2013, but he starts to narrow it down a lot in 2011 and generally calms it down a little. Gargano pussies out on his Tope Suicida and makes it far too safe for my liking. They do more stuff, and Gargano hits the sweet lawn dart Snake Eyes, and then hits the Hurts Donut for the win.
**1/4

Match #5: Mike Quackenbush/Frightmare vs. Lince Dorado/Pinkie Sanchez [1]

This ruled, finally. Lince rules at guiding Frightmare through complicated stuff, and Pinkie hangs well with Quack on the mat. Frightmare has a great fake hot tag and a killer dive before the BDK cuts him off, and Dorado and Pinkie continue to be an amazing team, and probably the best team in the BDK stable right now. Pinkie is such an asshole in a rough way, and then Lince is a show-off asshole, and it's a great mix. Quack's hot tag rules, but Tursas comes out and slams him on the apron on Quack's bad back! Tursas then distracts the ref, and Lince kicks Frightmare in the dick and covers to steal it. Interesting that now a BDK team is one point away from challenging Claudio and Ares.
***

Tursas moves in on Frightmare, BUT ULTRAMANTIS BLACK RUNS OUT TO SAVE WITH A CHAIR! FUCK YEAH! The war has become such that even UMB is now helping defend pure CHIKARA guys.

In the back, Eddie Kingston cuts a promo. He says he took a break, but the war is back, and Delirious is in the mix. He says he'll stand alone and fight, and he doesn't use the word war to make this more important, but because it's what he is. He's the War King, and sooner or later, everybody gets theirs.

Match #6: Eddie Kingston vs. Delirious
King does his thing, but it's 2010 Delirious, and he cannot hang in a strikefest as a heel with King. It's just not a thing that works, and Eddie eventually just runs through him, and wins with the Backfist to the Future.
**1/4

Match #7: The Osirian Portal vs. Vin Gerard/STIGMA w/ Colin Delaney

Fun stuff, yet again. The crowd is dead again and these are guys who can be transformed from good to great with a hot tag. Vin and STIGMA work face sort of, so it's a lot of fun again. They steal each other's offense when they block the usual stuff, but it fails because nobody has the perfect form since they're all inexperienced with these finishers, which was a cool story. Colin cheats for the UnStable and turns Ophidian's mask around, and Vin doesn't see it, so he rolls up Ophidian to win.
**3/4

The UnStable pretends to not know, and they jump the Portal from behind! Okay then.

Match #8: Bryan Danielson vs. Tim Donst
Yet again in his indy return summer, Danielson is tasked with an opponent not in his league that the promotion wants to put over. Donst is better though, because he's actually great when someone guides him like a Kingston or Quackenbush. This is all about Donst getting punished for his confidence, which is all fantastic. Donst works on the ribs and Danielson's selling is wonderful. Donst keeps stealing Danielson trademarks to be a dick, and Danielson makes him pay before he taps him out with the Cattle Mutilation.
***1/2

Donst refuses a handshake, and gets on the mic and says he'll see him on Tuesdays again. Donst leaves and Danielson says in 90 days, he's going to TNA! He tries a "TNA!" chant, but everyone boos, and he breaks up laughing and says his TNA name would be Lloyd Boner. AMAZING. He then gives the usual "support indy wrestling" speech.

Match #9: Claudio Castagnoli/Ares [c] vs. Jimmy Olsen/Helios [CHIKARA Campeonatos Des Parejas]
JIMMY OLSEN VS. CLAUDIO FINALLY HAPPENS! They jump the challengers coming out, and Helios eats a double Suplex on a wood ramp! Olsen is alone and goes down to Ares' Tiger Driver to make it 1-0. :( This only goes two falls because CHIKARA hates me after fall 2009, but it's SO good. Olsen is a great FIP and the finishing run is full of super super dramatic nearfalls. Tursas tries to come out, but all the babyfaces come out to make a wall, but it serves as a distration to Helios, and Claudio beats him with the Pop-Up European Uppercut. God damnit.

CHIKARA Young Lions Cup VIII Night One
August 27th, 2010
Reading, PA

This is the old Reading FunPlex from 05-08, but it's now been expanded with construction into a much bigger venue.

Match #1: Sugar Dunkerton vs. Christian Able [YLC - Quarterfinals]
Well, this happens! Able does head drops, and Dunkerton does his "fun" stuff, and it's whatever. Nine minutes isn't long, but it feels like it here. Able wins with a convoluted as fuck and bad looking cut-throat Regal Plex.
*1/2

At commentary, UltraMantis Black again has two men with black hoods behind him.

Match #2: Frightmare vs. Brendan Michael Thomas [YLC - Quarterfinals]
This was WAY too long at 11 minutes. BMT is this really shitty guy who upset Frightmare in the 2009 YLC and Frightmare got even with in the fall of 2009, so they bring him back to tell the story of Frightmare's improvement. And that's nice and makes sense, but everyone knows this guys is really awful, so the entire thing just falls totally flat. Frightmare ends it with Kneecolepsy.
*3/4

Match #3: Josh Pain vs. Kaio [YLC - Quarterfinals]

As always with the YLC, it will be a mixed bag due to the rules preventing anyone over 25 from being in. Sometimes it really pans out, as in 2008 when it gave us Sami Callihan and Drake Younger, and it pans out huge in 2010 too with some other guys, but this is where it fails. They get two unknowns and give them 10 minutes. It doesn't work out well at all, since they're pretty inexperienced and unremarkable. Kaio wins with an Air Raid Crash.
*3/4

Match #4: Green Ant vs. Akira Tozawa [YLC - Quarterfinals]

AND YLC PAYS OFF HERE, HUGE. Tozawa's insane 2010 run continues, as he is the closest a Japanese import has come to capturing the insane energy and charisma of Tajiri in ECW. Green Ant is capable, and they do really good for 9 minutes. They have awesome headbutt wars, Tozawa goes on the rampage with these super energetic attacks, and Green Ant looks great for hanging in as long as he does. This is actually held back a lot, so it's not great, but it's a joy to see Tozawa in these different situations. Tozawa wins with his Springboard Diving Headbutt.
**3/4

In the back, Amasis cuts a promo. He throws out all his nicknames, and says a few months back, Ophidian brought back Rey de Voladores, and it's time for him to bring some gold to the Portal too when he wins the Cup.

Match #5: Amasis vs. Chrisjen Hayme [YLC - Quarterfinals]
Hayme is LESS horrible than in 2007, as he doesn't totally embarrass himself, but he's clearly not able to go on Amasis' level, and Amasis has to dumb himself big time for the eight minutes this goes. Amasis gets the win with the 450 Splash, thankfully, as the finals looks pretty good now.
*3/4

In the back, Johnny Gargano cuts a promo. He says he's seen this tournament before the last few years and everyone stands here and says they're going to break out and win. He's already a standout everywhere he goes, so the question isn't IF he'll win, but who he beats on the way to the Cup.

Match #6: Johnny Gargano vs. Andy Ridge [YLC - Quarterfinals]
This is the second best match of the Quarterfinal round so far, since you actually have two competent wrestlers at once. Neither is great or anything, but they're both solid enough to carry off a good 8 minute spotfest. It's mostly to showcase Gargano for the future, and this does a good job of that. Ridge has some fun offense, and Gargano wins with the Hurts Donut.
**1/4

In the back, Grizzly Redwood cuts a promo. He says he's going after Tursas tonight, because he plans on going after Brodie Lee again, and he needs to get used to fighting bigger guys again. He says Tursas laughs at him now, but he'll be laughing after tonight.

Match #7: Tursas vs. Grizzly Redwood
Entertaining three minute squash for the increasingly fun to watch big man. Tursas wins with the Crossbody.
*3/4

Match #8: Mike Quackenbush/Jigsaw [1] vs. Sara Del Rey/Daizee Haze

Fun little match. It's short at about 10 minutes, and Haze isn't great or anything, but it did the job it needed to do. Derek Sabato was the ref, so this was about the BDK stuff even more, as the deck is stacked to cut Quack and Jigsaw off from getting 2 points and thus being close to a title shot. SDR dominating Quack was so much fun, and Jigsaw's hot tag was really good. Sabato blocks a Superkick from Jigsaw, and then fast counts Jigsaw down when Haze rolls him up! Quack and Jigsaw are back to 0! And it got pointed out how Lince and Pinkie didn't get this match, as THEY would then have 3 points, so the BDK is becoming increasingly focused on protecting Claudio and Ares at the expense of the others. Yet again, if not for Ares, this could be an all-time great angle, because it's done like 90-95% perfectly.
**3/4

Match #9: Frightmare vs. Johnny Gargano vs. Akira Tozawa vs. Amasis vs. Christian Abel vs. Kaio [YLC - Semi-Finals - Elimination Match]

This could have been great. I can see a match where Kaio and Able are out early, then they do 10-15 minutes about the four that are actually skilled, getting down to Frightmare vs. Tozawa at the end for a killer finishing run. That's not what happens. For some reason, this only gets 13 minutes instead of the 15-20 that the last several years of semi-finals had always gotten. They then went about 8 minutes without an elimination and too much focus on the shitty guys. Amasis got rid of both Abel and Kaio with 450 Splashes, and then Gargano rolled him up to put it at 3. Gargano vs. Tozawa was briefly awesome, but then Tozawa got a dick kick from Gargano, who got DQ'd. Tozawa vs. Frightmare WAS awesome, but only for the 90 seconds it went. Frightmare wins with Kneecolepsy as everyone predicted.

CHIKARA Young Lions Cup VIII Night Two
August 28th, 2010
Reading, PA

Match #1: Ophidian vs. Skull [YLC - Quarterfinals]

Skull is another horrible guy used to fill a YLC spot as this tournament becomes increasingly useless as the crop of indy talent dries up. It's six minutes of Ophidian doing what he can, and he wins with the Death Grip.
*1/4

Match #2: Eric Ryan vs. Cameron Skyy [YLC - Quarterfinals]

Neither one of these two really broke out in any way, but neither of them embarrassed themselves either. Eric Ryan is from AIW in Cleveland, and the other one is from the south somewhere. They do stuff for a while, and Skyy gets something of a leg grapevined version of an Oklahoma Roll that probably was just a botch for the win.
**1/4

Match #3: Obariyon vs. Dustin Rayz [YLC - Quarterfinals]

This is the debut of Obariyon, who actually sticks around CHIKARA for a while. He's one of the weird goblin people who eventually forms The Batiri. Rayz is solid. Obariyon hits hard and is aggressive, so awful gimmick aside, I dig him. He wins with a Flying DDT.
**1/4

Match #4: Keita Yano vs. Mike Sydal [YLC - Quarterfinals]

Yano is from BattlARTS and is the worst guy on the roster pretty much. But that's a crazy good roster, so he's still way better than shitty ass Mike Sydal who never lived up to his brother at all. Yano beats the shit out of Sydal's arm and he doesn't sell nearly as well as his brother. Or fly nearly as well. Dude just didn't get any of his older bro's talent, and Yano wins with the Last Chancery.
**1/4

Lince Dorado's opponent didn't show up, so they have a drawing, and Gregory Iron does. This is that dude with cerebral palsy who everyone loves because he's inspirational, while not actually that good of a wrestler.

Match #5: Lince Dorado vs. Gregory Iron [YLC - Quarterfinals]
Iron's one arm is totally useless and limp, so it's just really awkward to watch him wrestle. It's inspirational and great press and I'm sure he's an awesome guy, but I'm glad nobody else but CHIKARA really picked up on the guy. Any time Iron uses his retard arm for offense, it's so horribly fake and just ruins shit. Lince's build is kind of killed as a result of having to sell a lot of this and has to resort to using the ropes to beat THIS guy when he beat tons of other way better guys clean.
*3/4

Match #6: Kyle O'Reilly vs. Adam Cole [YLC - Quarterfinals]

This is their big breakout deal where they started getting booked a lot more around this time, and it led to ROH stuff. They give these assholes 18 minutes, which even Gabe wouldn't do at this time. Adam Cole was at least kind of likable here and not carried away with indy Superkickery, but Kyle is firmly in Davey's camp by now and drags him down to his level. They didn't go crazy RIGHT away, but just sort of did stuff before then. FINISHERS. KICKS. KICKOUTS. Cole then wins with a cradle just to make sure this doesn't even end correctly.
**1/2

Match #7: 3.0 [1] vs. The Super Smash Bros.

This is good fun. Jagged looks pretty good as a vaguely athletic babyface, but the push of 3.0 as serious threats is just really not my speed at all. They're an amazing undercard comedy team and it should stay that way. It's not organic at all, which really hurts this kind of deal, because when it's done right like Los Ice Creams in 2007, shit is perfect. It also hurts that SSB are there and have to put them over when they're clearly the better team. Pretty good finishing run though in spite of some sloppiness, and 3.0 get a second point with their Wheelbarrow Chestblower.
**3/4

Christian Abel comes out and he gets the mic. He says he's not a singles wrestler and this tournament wasn't fair to him. He brings out his partner in the House of Truth, Josh Raymond, and god damnit. The House of Truth has found me again. Motherfuck. They issue an open challenge and Quackenbush and Jigsaw come out.

Match #8: Mike Quackenbush/Jigsaw vs. The House of Truth
Quack and Jigsaw do what they can, but this is an 18 minute long House of Truth match, and the shit is just not going to work out that well. Jigsaw is a decent little FIP and then finishing run finally picks shit up, but it was like 14 or 15 minutes of average stuff before then, so this was hard to stay with. Jigsaw beats one of them with the Jig n' Tonic, and Quack & Jig have a point once again.
**1/4

Match #9: Lince Dorado vs. Ophidian vs. Adam Cole vs. Obariyon vs. Keita Yano vs. Cameron Skyy [YLC - Semi-Finals - Elimination Match]

OBVIOUS WINNER IS OBVIOUS. This gets fucking 28 minutes and the one last night with a bunch of awesome potential got like 15. Life is bullshit and CHIKARA is awful this weekend. Andy is booking this, surely. Lince and Ophidian had an awesome final two, but that's about it. Lince puts on the Inverted CHIKARA Special, and Ophidian passes out, so Lince wins and it's Lince/Frightmare in the finals like everyone knew it would be for months.

CHIKARA Young Lions Cup VIII Night Three
August 29th, 2010
Reading, PA

Match #1: Akira Tozawa vs. Hallowicked

YEAH, THIS RULED. 10 minutes of incredibly high energy pro wrestling between two dudes with pretty awesome offensive arsenals. Tozawa has a really great control segment full of biting and slapping ,and then they go nuts with the finishing run. Lots Yakuza Kicks from both dudes and Tozawa's insane Tajiri-esque energy continues to amaze. Hallowicked pulls off kind of an upset with the Graveyard Smash.
***

Match #2: Obariyon vs. Mike Sydal

This is a pretty blatant Obariyon showcase, which is fine, because I enjoy him well enough. Sydal gets too much offense since this goes 8-9 minutes, and it's just not necessary at all. Firstly, Mike Sydal kinda blows most of the time, and secondly, Obariyon's being built as this vicious killer, so he should run through a guy who's never going to be here again. Obariyon gets the win with the Flying DDT.
**

Match #3: Green Ant vs. Keita Yano

This is ALL on the mat, and it's pretty awesome. Green Ant holds his own against a really skilled technician yet again, even if he's pretty obviously just along for the ride. It's such a fun novelty too, as it's a Colony member being forced to work shoot-style. Yano starts to get more aggressive when Green Ant keeps up with him for a long time. This ends abruptly when Green Ant messes his shoulder up when Yano comes off the top with a knee to drive him face down. He's clearly supposed to kick out, but can't, so after hesitating, Bryce counts three and Yano wins.
**3/4

Yano leaves, and The Colony comes to help Green Ant away.

Match #4: Tursas vs. Gregory Iron
TURSAS KILLS A GUY WITH CEREBRAL PALSY. LOVED IT. He wins with his amazing Crossbody.
**

The House of Truth comes out to issue another open challenge, and now 3.0 accept it. Great. GREAT. Fuck you.

Match #5: 3.0 [2] vs. The House of Truth
This is pretty much a foregone conclusion for 3.0 to get a third point, and at no point did that ever come into doubt. 3.0 had some good shenanigans before this got serious, and then it stopped being entertaining. 3.0 gets the win with the Wheelbarrow Chestblower named The Sweet Taste of Professionalism.
**

In the back, Sara Del Rey and Daizee Haze talk about the battle royal. Pinkie Sanchez says he saw Vokoder again, but they don't believe him.

Outside, Brodie Lee says CHIKARA is having a match where you can only be eliminated by going over the top with a title shot as a prize, and says nobody in CHIKARA can ever eliminate him, so they should just hand him this "Golden Opportunity" now.

-TURTLE POWER!
-A retarded man dressed as a ninja turtle fighting a brainwashed lizard man working for an evil German syndicate is what CHIKARA can be when it applies itself

-the BDK beats up King on the floor
-#28 is Mike Quackebush
-QUACK VS. CLAUDIO AGAIN!

-AS CLAUDIO KNOCKS QUACK OFF THE APRON WITH IT, 3.0 TIPS HIM OVER AND OUT
-CLAUDIO PULLS MATTHEWS OVER IN HIS VENGEANCE
-AND GARGANO RUNS TO THROW JAGGED OUT

God damnit. That was really awesome though, and just a ton of fun. Really well laid out piece of booking with some awesome stuff to boot.
***1/4

In the back, Lince Dorado cuts a promo. He says he's worked four years and four straight YLCs to get where he's at today, but this is already in the bag. He's got Frightmare against the BDK's perfect ten, Lince Dorado. 2010 belongs to the perfect ten, and he's bringing the Cup back to the BDK where all gold belongs.

Match #7: Lince Dorado vs. Frightmare [YOUNG LIONS CUP VIII - FINALS]
BDK ref Derek Sabato is assigned this one. This is up there with Icarus/Shane Storm and Fire Ant/Gerard for the storyline filled YLC finals. However, it the least of all of them, as the best part of this is the booking. They play up the referee thing SO well, as Sabato has super fast counts, openly tries to distract Frightmare, and even applauds Lince's offense. Sabato counts practically in slow motion for Frightmare's covers. Frightmare comes back, BUT SABATO ROLLS LINCE OUT TO THE FLOOR AS FRIGHTMARE CRAWLS TO COVER. AMAZING. They take pieces of Fire Ant/Vin too with the dramatic 19 count too. The problem is that Lince and Frightmare really do not mesh well, as they're both incomplete flippy guys who don't know how to do a lot else, and Frightmare can't really show a lot of fire or passion that this match requires to REALLY work. They also botch a lot at the end. Sabato accidentally gets bumped down, AND BRYCE RUNS OUT! FRIGHTMARE GETS A SNAP RANA AND WINS THE CUP! The booking of this was amazing, but the performance really wasn't.
**3/4

The babyfaces come out and celebrate with Frightmare.

CHIKARA Eye to Eye
September 18th, 2010
Baltimore, MD

Match #1: Jimmy Olsen vs. Delirious w/ Ares

CHIKARA's weaknesses in 2010 begin to become more apparent here. Jimmy Olsen, who's carried the midcard with a lot of the TFIN tags and been one of the top 5 guys in the company for consistency, has to put over Delirious, who's been constantly disappointing, because Delirious is in BDK and they need to be rebuilt a little bit after YLC. This represents the alienating part of BDK is that with some average to bad wrestlers like Ares, Donst, Delirious, and Haze, their domination can be a real turn off. Jimmy gets the best BDK singles match so far out of Delirious with his awesome strikes and offense and energy, but jobs to the Bizarro Driver after interference.
**1/2

Match #2: Icarus/Chuck Taylor/Johnny Gargano vs. Da Soul Touchaz w/ C-Red

This is the debut of the new FIST that I will not acknowledge as such. Team FIST is Icarus and Gran Akuma. I don't like CHIKARA just slotting new people into stuff to leech off the popularity of the previous name, like how Frightmare and Hallowicked get called Incoherence. That being said, I like Chuck and Gargano a lot as a team. Gargano's best suited for tags and trios matches, since he can do his cool stuff and be led by better and smarter guys like Icarus and Chuck. This is fun, but not great, since it never really got going beyond basic heel/face stuff. Icarus and Chuck get the win over the big guy with the Rude/Warrior spot.
**1/2

Match #3: Brodie Lee vs. Helios

Ricochet is back! And they have a really great 6 minute power vs. speed match. Helios has an awesome dive and then takes insane bumps for Brodie. The big guy lays everything in real painfully and then they have cool little finishing run before Brodie catches him out of the air with a Big Boot for the win.
***

In the back, The Osirian Portal cut a promo. They say they can win three points in one match tonight. Some faggot in glasses walks out and says he's Wink Vavasseur, the auditor for the Board of Directors and he's just checking things out tonight. He says he's a big fan, and walks off.

Match #4: Hallowicked/Frightmare vs. The Osirian Portal vs. Vin Gerard/STIGMA [1] vs. Obariyon/Kodama [Elimination Match]
Kodama is debuting here, and they're practically identical. I liked the future Batiri a lot here, since they're super aggressive and hit like men. On commentary, Bryce announces that UMB has picked STIGMA for his Cibernetico team. The UnStable seems motivated yet again, and Frightmare is best in these kinds of styles clash situations. Hallowicked is easily the best dude in this again, and the Portal exists. Not great, but not messing a ton of stuff up. Vin hits a great Tope Suicida to Wicked, but as that happens, Frightmare hits STIGMA with the Kneecolepsy for the elimination. The Batiri shine against the Portal, but when the pace picks up there, they botch a ton. Amasis hits a shitty Rolling Elbow to eliminate them in what was probably an audible after they broke down. Portal vs. Wicked and Frightmare rules. Everything works really well and they end it at the right time. Unfortunately, Portal earns point #2 with a roll up from Ophidian on Hallowicked. Apart from the final Batiri/Portal run, I liked all of this a lot.
***

In the back, Eddie Kingston cuts a promo. He says he considers Pinkie Sanchez a joke and he doesn't understand how he's with BDK. But he's with them, and that's the bottom line. He may be a joke, but he's going to beat him down, and the War King gets the last laugh. Always.

Match #5: Eddie Kingston vs. Pinkie Sanchez
This ruled for eight minutes. Kingston just mauls the shit out of Pinkie, who sells marvelously. He goes after the knee to stay alive, and that means Eddie gets to do his great knee selling on the comeback while continuing to smack and pummel the shit out of Pinkie. He hits the Backdrop Driver and Sliding D, but decides to put a period on it with the Backfist to the Future to win.
***

Match #6: Mike Quackenbush/Jigsaw [1] vs. Tim Donst/Lince Dorado

The BDK again sends a team to cut off Quack and Jigsaw. This was another good match in one of the better CHIKARA shows of 2010. Quack and Jig had a great frantic start, but then it broke down a lot after that. Donst and Lince don't have any kind of focus on Quack and botch a lot in the finishing run, but Quack and Jig do a lot to hold it together and make it not fall apart. Quack hits Lince with the QD4 for the second point.
**3/4

Match #7: Minami Toyota vs. Daizee Haze

This is solid. Haze is a cunt and gives the joshi legend a good showcase going into a big main event on the next night's show. Toyota wins with the Ocean Cyclone Suplex.
**3/4

In the back, 3.0 cuts a promo. Jagged asks if anyone can actually believe that, because they actually have a title shot. They go over their comedy history and say things had to change. Not really. He says they're at the gates of the promised land right here, and Shane says he has no idea how they got here. He says Claudio and Ares are bigger, stronger, faster, and probably better wrestlers than them, but tonight, they're breaking down the doors. BOO YA!

Match #8: Claudio Castagnoli/Ares [c] vs. 3.0 [CHIKARA Campeonatos Des Parejas]
ON THE WAY OUT, DELIRIOUS ATTACKS 3.0 FROM BEHIND! They beat them up before the bell again, and Ares beats Jagged with the Tiger Driver immediately after the bell to go 1-0. They dominate and it's okay, and Jagged gets a flash schoolboy on Claudio to put it at 1-1! WHOA! And yes, CHIKARA gave the BDK's first ever fall in a CDP match to 3.0. They then pull out the classic CHIKARA card of bringing all the babyfaces out to cheer on 3.0. The crowd is hot, which elevates this, but 3.0 is still not very good at the actual pro wrestling. Claudio beats Matthews with the Inverted CHIKARA Special.

CHIKARA Through Savage Progress Cuts The Jungle Line
September 19th, 2010
Brooklyn, NY

The show is supposed to open with FIST II vs. The Colony, but Green Ant is in a sling and there's no Fire Ant. He says since his arm was broken during YLC and Fire Ant has three broken bones in his face, they've gotten replacements, and 3.0 comes out.

Match #1: Soldier Ant/3.0 vs. Icarus/Chuck Taylor/Johnny Gargano
Good not great. Which is what you'd expect with 3.0 in a serious role and 2010 Gargano. Chuck, Icarus, and Soldier all look good though. Once they get away from the tired 3.0 comedy stuff early on, FIST II has good control stuff and Soldier Ant's hot tag is very good. Chuck crotches him up top though and pulls him down into the Awful Waffle for the win.
**3/4

In the back, UltraMantis Black cuts a promo. He says he was born into wrestling nine years ago under the sign of CHIKARA and very few have stood with him since the beginning and one of them is Hallowicked. And they have a long and storied past. He says he wants Hallowicked on his Cibernetico team and says he understands his reluctance to team with him, but he will set him straight tonight. This is not about their war, about the Night Shift or the Dark Breed or the Order, but this isn't for him or Hallowicked. This is for CHIKARA.

Match #2: Hallowicked vs. UltraMantis Black
This is only five minutes, so it's not amazing or anything, but it's really good for the time they got. UMB keeps yelling at Hallowicked to join him and they do a lot of big stuff and cool stuff, and Hallowicked again comes out looking like the most underutilized guy in the entire company in a loss. Yes, he loses here. UMB gets the win with the Praying Mantis Bomb.
**3/4

Post-match, UMB gets on the mic and asks if he has his attention now. He says to join him now, but Hallowicked walks out on him. UMB leaves with his druids and is displeased.

Match #3: The Osiriran Portal [2] vs. Delirious/Daizee Haze
This is a real shitty last line of defense for the BDK to cut off the Portal, both in maycabe and normal terms. Haze is alright and Delirious is 2010 Delirious. You know what this is, it's not bad at all, but there's so little that stands out at all. Stuff happens and Haze drops the fall to the Osirian Sacrament, so the Portal gets a title shot. Okay.
**

In the back, Tim Donst talks to Tursas. He says he knows he's mad that Lince dropped the ball in YLC, but says he'll make it up to the brotherhood tonight.

Match #4: Tim Donst/Tursas/Lince Dorado vs. Da Soul Touchaz w/ C-Red
Yeah, this happened. DST lack the magic of their original appearances, Lince isn't in enough, and this just really doesn't work like you'd want. Willie Richardson beats Lince with the POOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUNCE (period), and Lince again lets down the BDK.
**1/4

In the back, Eddie Kingston cuts a promo. He says its Ares tonight and he's the man that started this with the first shot. More importantly, he's the man that's closest to Claudio and he's getting real tired of this. He wants Claudio and he wants to punch him in the face and smack him around and headbutt HIM, because this is about the two of them. He's running through the BDK and that means his little boyfriend tonight, because this is his world in NYC.

Match #5: Eddie Kingston vs. Ares w/ Delirious
Eddie does what he can, but this is short at like six minutes because this show was designed to be horrible, I'm pretty sure. Ares still is the definition of mediocre. Claudio comes out to distract Kingston and it works, since Ares schoolboys him for the win after using Delirious' chain.
**

Kingston comes back and runs them off.

Match #6: Jigsaw/Jimmy Olsen/Helios vs. The UnStable
Somehow, this is MOTN so far. Everyone is motivated, and they have a nice story with the Jimmy and Colin respect being back. This aggravates Vin and STIGMA when he won't let them do bad things to his brother. Colin and Jimmy have an amazing face/face style lucha-off in the beginning. Finishing run rules, and Vin shoves Colin and yells to finish off Jimmy. SO COLIN PUTS JIMMY ONTO VIN GERARD INSTEAD AND HE HITS THE OVERBOMB! COLIN FIGHTS STIGMA! YEAH! STIGMA EATS THE SUPERIOR KO PUNCH. Vin then low blows Jimmy Olsen for the DQ in a weird finish for the angle.
***

Vin runs away, and Colin and Jimmy hug! FUCK YEAH THE OLSENS ARE BACK! "TOXIC" PLAYS AND JIMMY TAKES OFF THE STUPID EQUINOX MASK FINALLY.

Match #7: Frightmare [c] vs. Pinkie Sanchez [CHIKARA Young Lions Cup Championship]
This also sure happened! They didn't make the mistakes Donst/Frightmare did with limbwork that Frightmare won't sell and it wasn't a weird flyer/flyer clash like Frightmare/Lince, but it just never really got to another level besides being a fun little midcard match. They botched a good amount of stuff too, and the crowd wasn't really with them by the end. Frightmare retains with the Kneecolepsy.
**3/4

Match #8: Mike Quackenbush/Minami Toyota vs. Claudio Castagnoli/Sara Del Rey

This is CHIKARA doing the Joe/Liger vs. Danielson/Ki formula. It's not as good as that since nobody in this is as good as Liger was in that match, but hey. You get good Quack/Claudio stuff while the focus is still on Toyota, and SDR gets good stuff out of the old legend. I really have no idea why she got brought in though. She didn't exactly light the world on fire in ticket or DVD sales and josh i never had the same following as men's stuff from Japan in the US and she wasn't exactly remarkable in the ring either, so it's just Quack being a mark. This is driven home when she beats SDR with the CHIKARA Special. Really good match though.

CHIKARA The Dark Cibernetico
October 23rd, 2010
Easton, PA

Match #1: Brodie Lee vs. Dasher Hatfield

This was an out of nowhere great match, and Brodie did an amazing job making Dasher into a legit guy in one match. He bullies him a lot but lets Dasher stand up for himself. Then they do an awesome gradual thing where Dasher takes Brodie's boot off to neutralize his big weapon and stomps on his foot a lot. Brodie can't run or deliver the boot well, and Dasher eventually hits his own Death Valley Driver for the HUGE upset.
***

Match #2: Ophidian vs. Dragon Yuki

God damnit. No. I'm not reviewing another fucking Dragon Yuki match.

Frightmare is supposed to defend his YLC against Lince Dorado next, but he is not here. They do the name drawing thing, but Johnny Gargano comes out instead of that and says he has this golden opportunity thing from YLC, and he wants a shot at that Cup right now. Dieter VonSteigerwalt comes out and okays the match.

Match #3: Frightmare [c] vs. Johnny Gargano [CHIKARA Young Lions Cup Championship]
This was surprisingly good and kind of upsettingly so, since it means fucking Gargano gets the three. They just did a bunch of spots in a smart order in front of a hot crowd. Lots of cool counters too, and Frightmare took some insane bumps to put Gargano's stuff over. Nearfall city at the end, before Frightmare wins with the Kneecolepsy, and only one kickout was egregious, which is good for them.
***

Match #4: Vin Gerard vs. Cheech Hernandez

VIN GERARD IS IN SHAPE. WHAT YEAR IS THIS, 2008? This was a really fun match YET AGAIN. This show is weirdly great. Vin Gerard even breaks out some athletic feats. This makes no sense and I love all of it. They do lots of stuff, and Vin wins with the STF.
**3/4

Match #5: The Super Smash Bros. vs. Obariyon/Kodama

Another good showing from these weird ass goblin dicksuckers. This is basically just a lot of spots and some of them still need work since they're clearly still new, but they worked a fairly rough and basic style that it's hard for me not to take a liking to when they guys aren't being overpushed. Obariyon beats Dos with his wonderful Flying DDT.
**3/4

Before the Cibernetico, CHIKARA's Vokoder unmasks as LARRY FUCKING SWEENEY! OH MY GOD YES! I'M MARKING OUT BRO!

Match #6: Team CHIKARA [Eddie Kingston/Mike Quackenbush/Jigsaw/UltraMantis Black/Hallowicked/Larry Sweeney/Icarus/STIGMA] vs. Team BDK [Claudio Castagnoli/Ares/Tursas/Tim Donst/Pinkie Sanchez/Delirious/Sara Del Rey/Daizee Haze] [TORNEO CIBERNETICO]
As opposed to the other Ciberneticos, this is super quick from the opening bell with a brawl. TURSAS POWERBOMBS HALLOWICKED INTO THE WALL. Sweeney looks pretty rough and rusty, but it's still Sweeney so he's got a ton of energy. He botches a fall off the top onto Pinkie, but still covers him to eliminate him first! Claudio immediately follows with the Ricola Bomb on Sweeney to even it back up. BDK works on King's leg before it breaks down again. They triple team STIGMA and Donst eliminates him with the Gator Roll. UMB eliminates Ares with the Praying Mantis Bomb. Hallowicked has Delirious beat, but BDK ref Sabato pulls Delirious out! Tursas then takes Hallowicked out with the Crossbody. Icarus has an awesome babyface run, but Donst makes him tap to the Inverted CHIKARA Special. Things break down again, and UMB eliminates Delirious with the Praying Mantis Bomb. Jigsaw gets caught with a Tursas splash and the Pop-Up European from Claudio, and he's OUT. Donst puts on the Inverted CHIKARA Special, and Jigsaw is out, so Bryce calls that too. This is where shit goes from great to amazing, as Quack gets his run. Donst puts on the Inverted CHIKARA Special again, BUT QUACK FIGURES IT OUT AND UNLOCKS IT! QUACK PUTS ON THE REGULAR CHIKARA SPECIAL, AND DONST TAPS NOW! YEAH! BUT TURSAS BREAKS THE RULES BY JUMPING UMB ON THE FLOOR AND SLAMMING HIM. NO! Quack gets dropped with a Piledriver from SDR and then Claudio hits a Lariat to eliminate him. BUT WITH UMB DOWN, KING CAN JUMP IN! YEAH! BACKFIST TO THE FUTURE TO DEL REY AND SHE'S OUT! ONE FOR HAZE TO GET RID OF HER TOO. He fights Claudio to the floor, but it lets Tursas pull the hurt UMB in and he hits the Big Splash to eliminate him. DOWN TO KINGSTON VS. CLAUDIO AND TURSAS! CLAUDIO HITS THE RICOLA BOMB, AND KING KICKS OUT! SO CLAUDIO JUST KICKS HIM IN THE DICK FOR A DQ AND GIVES IT TO TURSAS. EDDIE KICKS OUT OF THE BIG SPLASH. EDDIE HITS A LARIAT TO FINALLY KNOCK HIM DOWN AND WINS WITH THE SLIDING D! FUCK YEAH!

This was only 36 minutes, making it the shortest Cibernetico ever. It's not on the level of 2005 for sheer in-ring stuff, and probably not 2006 or 2008 or 2009 either. It's not exactly amazing in the ring, but on a story level, it's perfect as a culmination of the BDK dominance. It came off like CHIKARA finally beating the BDK and the beginning of their decline, as their big destroyer failed, their big offensive weapon with the Inverted Special got countered, and their numbers game and cheating referee failed. It was perfect in that sense and the most I've gotten into a CHIKARA thing in a while, so this ruled.

CHIKARA Terror in the Neighborhood
October 24th, 2010
Hamden, CT

In the back, The Olsen Twins cut a promo. They say the feel good tag team of every decade is reunited for real. Colin says he got sick of the UnStable being so unhappy all the time, and they're going to be even sadder after they win tonight.

Match #1: The Olsen Twins vs. Vin Gerard/STIGMA
FUCK YEAH OLSEN TWINS. This wasn't great since it was only eight minutes and STIGMA seemed back to not giving a shit. Jimmy had lots of cool stuff and Vin's basic heeling worked well enough. Colin injures his leg, and Vin goes after it. He puts on the STF and because CHIKARA makes no real sense, Colin taps out, so the UnStable actually wins the Olsens' return.
**1/2

Match #2: Soldier Ant vs. Dragon Yuki

GOD DAMNIT. Quack is on commentary and says Dragon Yuki has been at this 10 years. Not sure why he'd go and share that with people, because he's one of the worst of all time to make tape. Soldier wins with the CHIKARA Special and it was 5 minutes of horrible.
3/4*

In the back, the Super Smash Bros. are talking. Wink Vavasseur comes over and says he loves them, the Game Boys. He says he's thinking they should do one of those things in the ring like a match. He clearly has no idea about what wrestling is. Soldier Ant comes over and Wink calls him Army Ant and says they should team. Dos says no and asks if he's some kind of an auditor. He says he's trying to bring synergy to CHIKARA, and this is what he gets.

Match #3: Super Smash Bros. vs. Sara Del Rey/Daizee Haze [2]
Fun little match. SSB do their thing which is almost always really entertaining spotty stuff. Del Rey is good, and Haze is there to make sure this is only good and not great by being disturbingly thin and getting treated like some kind of killer. SSB kill things in the finishing run and then because it's CHIKARA and they will never win another tag match here apparently, Dos gets beat with the Piledriver from SDR followed by Haze's comical German Suplex that somehow puts down Dos. Lady BDK now has three points!
**1/2

Match #4: Hallowicked/Frightmare vs. Icarus/Johnny Gargano

This ruled because Incoherence vs. FIST is always really good stuff. Gargano did a decent enough Chuck Taylor impression and Icarus' stalling was wonderful. Gargano/Frightmare is still a weirdly great match, and Hallowicked and Icarus are as totally solid and entertaining as always. Big finishing run, and the Doomsday Ace Crusher thing, now named the Headless Horseman, allows Frightmare to beat Icarus.
***

Match #5: Mike Quackenbush/Jigsaw [2] vs. Tursas/Pinkie Sanchez

This happened, absolutely. The story is the BDK again cutting Quackenbush and Jigsaw off from their third point with the use of evil referee Derek Sabato, and now breaking out Tursas for the first time in one of the BDK's attempted point blocks in 2010. The story is great but the match is just sort of there. Tursas hits Quack with the Crossbody and Sabato does a super quick three count, forcing Quack and Jigsaw back down to 0.
**1/4

Match #6: Dasher Hatfield vs. Grizzly Redwood

This...why? Dasher got over HUGE with his win on Brodie and that is parlayed into Grizzly beating him in an even match with a cradle, so all this really does is harm Brodie.
*1/2

In the back, Tim Donst cuts a promo. He says he got into professional wrestling because he loved everything about it. Until he fought Eddie Kingston in July 2007. He says Kingston was the first guy that took advantage of him and showed him the dark side of wrestling. He was already a star, a champion all over the country, and he only did it to send a message. Kingston gave him the stigma of being a punching bag, but he's not a punching bag anymore. He's the greatest YLC Champion of all time, he's in the BDK, and he's going to be a star in Osaka Pro, and he's not going over with ANOTHER beating from Eddie Kingston. He showed him the dark side of wrestling, and now he shows him the dark side of Tim Donst.

Match #7: Eddie Kingston vs. Tim Donst
This is the worst of their three matches, but that's because it's the most even and isn't based around Kingston just beating Tim Donst into mush like in 2007. They took a while to get going, but the finishing run was pretty good as King makes Donst pay for insulting him all match. He refuses to end it, but after Donst has a comeback and almost puts him away, Kingston shuts him down with the Backfist to the Future to win.
**3/4

Match #8: Claudio Castagnoli/Ares [c] w/ Delirious vs. The Osirian Portal [CHIKARA Campeonatos Des Parejas]

Usual BDK deal here. The pre-match attack happens, but the other babyfaces come out to help the Portal, but then Derek Sabato threatens to DQ the Portal for the first fall if they don't leave. This allows the BDK to all beat up on them on the floor, but Ophidian gets in the ring to escape. He's on his own though and after a Shotgun European Uppercut, Sabato hits ANOTHER super quick three count to put it at 1-0. They do the usual shtick, and it's better than the 3.0 match, but not on the level of the Colony, Olsen/Helios, or Incoherence title matches because the Portal aren't as good of a team as any of them. Amasis gets beat with the Tiger Driver by Ares at the end.
**3/4

Real boring and medicore show to even out the awesome Cibernetico, I guess.
