ECW World Tag Team Champions: Danny Doring/Roadkill, Since 12/3/2000

ECW Hardcore TV
December 17th, 2000
Manhattan, NY

More PPV highlights open the show. This time it focuses on Credible/Francine stuff and the CW/Tommy finish, followed by CW's promo last week.

In the back, Joel Gertner goes over Joey Matthews' arm injury and basically goes over the Dudley Boyz return and says THIS is how Joel Gertner solves a problem. They can't air the actual match on TV probably because WWF stuff, but then I have the fancam from which the next three episodes of TV are from. I haven't reviewed the last few because ECW's gone back to its 1995/1996 roots where they milk three weeks of TV out of the show, since they're not running nearly as often now.

A recap of the Sandman/Corino stuff airs.

In the back, Tommy Dreamer is with Matthews and York and they cut a promo. Joey's arm is all taped up with ice and York says they showed what happened when it's the two of them and Team Me, because they won. York mentions Dawn Marie and Joey says they don't need a manager, they were just trying to get laid. Joey says if they had Dawn Marie, she'd be treated like a bowling ball. Three fingers in, throw her in the gutter, and she'd come back for more. Why wouldn't you try and knock over the pins, you fucking mook? He says he messed up his arm, but he at least won. He asks Tommy what he did with women in the business, so he changes the subject and says he has to get to a hospital right now, and they go. Tommy stops and comes back in and asks why CW thinks he's going to make him tap out when he's NEVER given up in seven and a half years here or ten years in wrestling. HE'S NOT AN ANDERSON. HE'S A DREAMER, AND HE DREAMS OF MAKING HIM TAP.

On the street, Cyrus is with Jerry Lynn after his loss and he tries to get a homeless guy to say his favorite wrestler is Jerry Lynn. He can't do it, so Cyrus stomps on the homeless guy. Lynn joins in and yells at the homeless guy to say he's the best, and they leave together.

They re-air Nova vs. Julio Dinero from the PPV in full as punishment.

In the back, Dawn Marie is starting a promo, but CW Anderson comes over. He says her time is over and tells her to go give his boys his best, and she leaves. He says he hates females in wrestling, and Tommy's a little feminine. Always on his back staring up at the lights, like all his bitches. He made a mistake not finishing Dreamer for good, but he's gonna rectify that. He says he wants Tommy's dignity and pride and he's gonna make him tap. He's gonna tap out to an Anderson.

Match #1: HC Loc vs. Danny Daniels
God DAMNIT. This is basically a rookies match, and both get decent enough in a few years, but they kind of blow in 2000. Loc wins with a Superplex.
1/2*

As they do pre-match talk on commentary for the next match, Joel continues the amazing continuity by mentioning JOEY NUMBAS.

Match #2: New Jack vs. Angel w/ Tony DeVito
Hey, this sucked. It's pretty short and Angel is super bad at this. Or really, he's super bad at any and all aspects of pro wrestling. New Jack does a low grade version of his schtick and wins with the 187.

To open the show, Joey and Joel bring out Joey Matthews and Christian York. Joey has his arm in a sling. Joey Styles tries an interview, but Team Me and Dawn Marie come out to attack! York fights them off and Joey hangs in there with one arm, but CW Anderson runs out to even it up. Tommy Dreamer comes out to save, BUT HE RUNS INTO THE ANDERSON SPINEBUSTER! THE DUDLEY BOYZ RUN OUT TO MAKE THE SAVE AND ALL THE HEELS BAIL! FUCK YEAH! They hit Dawn Marie with the Wassup Headbutt.

Match #1: Rhino [c] vs. Spike Dudley [ECW World Television Championship]
This wasn't as long as the PPV match or as good, so it sort of happened. Spike did his balcony plancha, which ruled. Spike got to kick out of the Piledriver off an apron through a table, which was ridiculous, and then Rhino won with another Piledriver.
**

Match #2: Chilly Willy vs. Mike Bell

This was short, and Willy DOES THE DEAL with the Falcon Arrow to get a hometown win.
1/2*

In the back, Danny Doring and Roadkill cut a promo. Doring needs to cut it out with the turtlenecks. Doring says when they debuted, they thought they'd already paid all their dues, but then they got put on ring crew. Maybe getting a match a few times, but it was them getting thrown to the lions. Roadkill got put out of action for a while, but you won't read about that anywhere, because they weren't important enough to get that reported. He had to ring the bell in his hometown and everyone said he was just a bell ringer, and he never forgot. He never forgot all his nights in the hospital, and Roadkill was the only one there. That's how this happened, how they came together. He says he's not mad about all the beatings or people laughing at them, because they got them here. These belts are a symbol of all their work and for everyone like Perry Saturn and Taz who trained them, he thanks them for beating the men into them. They thank Tommy and Paul for letting them be themselves. He says his mom died before she could see this and says they did it, and thanks everyone. CHAMPIONSSSSSS.

Match #3: The Unholy Alliance vs. Little Guido/Tony Mamaluke
Both managers are there. Tajiri has switched to his more famous gear with the dragon on them, which means he is losing some of his peak-level power and violence. All about the lightning bolts. This was the least spotty of their tags, but it was more of a formula deal and still done pretty well. And Tajiri is Tajiri as the hot tag, so he almost brings this up to a great level by the end but it's just too short. He murders Tony with stuff, but then Sal takes Mikey out. Tony low blows Tajiri, and ECW goes back to it's usual "fuck you" to Tajiri, as he loses to the Last Kiss.

ECW World Tag Team Champions: Danny Doring/Roadkill, Since 12/3/2000

ECW Hardcore TV - The Final Episode
December 31st, 2000
Queens, NY

In the back, Cyrus introduces Jerry Lynn to a small child and says he'll love this. He asks him who his favorite is, AND THE KID SAYS RVD! HA! Lynn freaks out and says he beat him twice and RVD's not even here anymore. He says he can't get any respect and storms off. Cyrus then gives the kid some money and says he did good work. AMAZING.

Match #1: Danny Doring/Roadkill [c] vs. Da Baldies [ECW World Tag Team Championship]
This is solid enough for a short one. Doring and Roadkill do their fun spots and Da Baldies are just kind of there. There's a ref bump, and Danny Daniels comes out and allows Da Baldies to cheat a ton. BUT WHAT THE FUCK, TAZ COMES OUT?! He chokes out Danny Daniels, and then Roadkill and Doring hit one of the Baldies with the Buggy Bang for the win!
**

Taz gets into the ring and puts them over on the mic for all they've survived and how they've improved. BEAT THEM IF YOU CAN. SURVIVE IF THEY LET YOU. FUCK YEAH.

An AMAZING video airs to "Renegades of Funk" of cool ECW stuff in 2000. Fitting for a final ECW music video.

Match #2: Balls Mahoney/Nova vs. EZ Money/Julio Dinero w/ Elektra [#1 Contender's Match]
This happens. Absolutely does. Nova is horrible and Balls is really out of his element here. Yeah, he's not a BAD wrestler, but that doesn't mean he should be doing this shit instead of brawling. Hot Commodity steals a win.
*1/2

In the back, CW Anderson cuts a promo. He slaps his knuckles and says to get used to this sound. Tommy Dreamer is gonna make that sound when he makes him quit. He says he made Super Crazy tap tonight and Tommy is next. He's gonna rectify his win and make him tap on PPV.

In the back, Joey and Gertner confirm CW vs. Dreamer in an "I Quit" match for Guilty as Charged in one week.

Before the match, Cyrus introduces Jerry Lynn as the greatest technician in ECW, the best interview in wrestling, and the greatest luchador to ever come out of the state of Minneapolis, and the longest reigning ECW Champion of all time.

Match #3: Jerry Lynn vs. Christian York
Cyrus and Joey Matthews are on the floor. This is decent enough, but whatever. Bland spotty wrestling and it's a pretty big disappointment that this is the final Hardcore TV match instead of some of the great stuff on the show this is from that I'm going to review next. Lynn wins with the Cradle Fuckledriver.

Kid Kash vs. Justin Credible w/ Francine, Queens (December 15th)
Only seven minutes, but a great Kash showing for most of this. Credible is out of position for a ton of stuff and generally is a massive fuck up that drags this down from being as good as their ECW Title matches on TNN in August. He refuses to catch Kash's stuff, and then takes it home really early into a developing match with That's Incredible. Horrible.
*3/4

Steve Corino [c] w/ Jack Victory vs. The Sandman [ECW World Heavyweight Championship - Last Man Standing Match], Queens (december 15th)

Another kind of house show performance. They bleed and do stuff, but they're CLEARLY holding something back at this point. They do a lot of the same spots as their match from November and Corino looks great again as the sort of hardcore Ric Flair that every other heel ECW Champion like Shane or Credible tried to be. Raven came close, but Corino is the closest. They do a double 10 count after the Old School Expulsion onto a guardrail, but the ref says the first man up wins it. Corino grabs the ref from his knees as Sandman gets up, but Victory knocks Sandman down behind his back! Corino then stands up to win!
**1/2

Corino gets the title, but Sandman canes he and Victory and leaves with it again.

Joel Gertner comes out before the main event to do this right. HAILING FROM THE PARTS UNKNOWN SECTION OF DUDLEYVILLE...WEIGHING IN AT A SLIM, TRIM, BUFF, CUT, RIPPED, CHISELED, AND JAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACKED...232 POUNDS, THE MOST RIGHTEOUS BROTHER IN THE BUILDING, D-VON DUDLEY! HIS HALF BROTHER AND TAG TEAM PARTNER WEIGHS IN AT A ROUGH, READY, AND RAMBUNCTIOUS 310 POUNDS, HE IS DUDLEYVILLE'S MOST ELIGIBLE BACHELOR AND THE MAYOR OF THE MAD HOUSE OF EXTREME, BUBBA RAY DUDLEY!

FUCK YEAH!

Bubba gets on the mic and calls Dawn Marie an ugly whore before calling out a balcony fan with a "BUBBA IS A BITCH" sign. He challenges him to prove it. The fan yells that security will stop him, and Bubba says security hasn't been paid in two months, so they're not going to do shit. Bubba says he'll come to him and goes into the crowd and up to the balcony to embarrass this poor shithead. Bubba stops and says he's never been up here before and this is awesome. D-Von follows him up and the fan tries a handshake, but Bubba calls him a cum guzzling faggot. Bubba makes the fan tear up the sign and asks if he owns a dick. D-Von says he looks like a pussy and he's gonna fuck him. His friend in a Superman shirt tries to help, but Bubba calls him Superfaggot. He makes the crowd all chant "PUUUUSSSSSSY" and they leave. BUBBA THEN STARTS THROWING CHAIRS AT THE HEELS IN THE RING! AMAZING! They get back to the ring and D-Von says after they put them through a table, he's gonna tittyfuck Dawn Marie and give her nine inches of black dick.

Tommy Dreamer/The Dudley Boyz vs. CW Anderson/Team Me, Queens (December 15th)
This is just a fucking blast. It's a house show "send them home happy" match, but apart from the Sandman takes off his pants match, it's the best one I may have ever seen in ECW. Tommy doing the Road Dogg jabs and knee drop, TOMMY DOING THE MOST HILARIOUSLY BAD WORM EVER, TOMMY DOING THE STINK FACE (with his bare ass, which gets the biggest "ECW" chant of the night), etc. TOMMY, JOEL, AND RING CREW TOWEL BOY ALL PUT ON SUNGLASSES AND DO THE TOO COOL DANCING SPOT! BUBBA BREAKS OUT HIS DANCE! They follow the comedy with real stuff, and the crowd immediately turns on it and chants for flaming tables. This is why you can't have nice things. It becomes a brawl, AND BUBBA PRESS SLAMS TOWEL BOY ONTO EVERYONE IN THE CROWD FOR A DIVE! BUBBA GETS A FUCKING MACHETE-LIKE DEAL, AND CUTS CW IN THE FACE HOLY SHIT WHAT

Posted Image

Bubba vs. CW is wonderful. Bubba goes back to the machete and someone yells "CUT HIS FUCKING DICK OFF, BUBBA!" Dawn makes the ref motorboat her for a distraction, which...YES. AND JOEL GETS IN AND MAKES DAWN MOTORBOAT HIM! JOEL STARTS DRYHUMPING DAWN'S TITS IN THE BACKGROUND AS THEY HIT DIAMOND WITH THE WASSUP HEADBUTT. DAWN GETS THE SUPERBOMB THROUGH A TABLE! BUBBA GETS THE ORGASMIC LOOK! DIAMOND IS HIT WITH THE 3D FOR THE WIN! FUCK IT!
***

The crowd chants not to go and thanks the Dudleys. Bubba celebrates up to the stage and then they get back in the ring. Tommy gets on the mic and says everyone knows ECW can be real tough on everyone, but he thanks the fans. He thanks the Dudley Boyz and the WWF for making and allowing this to happen and says he hopes ECW will prevail over the next few months, since they have the best fucking fans. Bubba calls Paul to get his chubby Jewish ass out, and he comes out. Bubba says on August 26th, 1999, they were in the ring for the last time as ECW wrestlers and he gave a speech about how heroes became legends and legends became Gods in the WWF. If not for Paul Heyman and ECW, they would not be the hardcore Gods. He says Paul and Tommy have given up their lives for this and says if they need help again to let them know. D-Von says it's time to TESTIFY. He says working in the WWF, those fans are good, but these fans are hardcore. The Sandman comes out with beer and D-Von says they're gonna testify with some beers. Tommy plugs the Dudley Boyz hosting Heat this weekend at that fucking cafe. Bubba says one more time, thou shall not kill. Thou shall not steal. D-Von takes it to send us home.

THOU SHALL NOT FUCK WITH THE DUDLEY BOYZ.

OH MY BROTHER, TESTIFYYYYYYYYYYYYYY.

Everyone celebrates and hugs. That was a beautiful 50 minutes. 20 or so of a match, and 30 of wonderful shenanigans.

ECW GUILTY AS CHARGED 2001
JANUARY 7TH, 2001
THE HAMMERSTEIN BALLROOM
MANHATTAN, NY

In the ring, Joey Styles and Joel "Another Pay-Per-View here in New York City, And With Her Face On My Nuts, Even That Girl Would Look Pretty. But Wait Wait Wait, I Really Shouldn't Have Said That. That Was Kind of Shitty. I Was Just Trying To Be Witty. And I Hope You're Not Offended Because That Would Truly Be A Pity...BECAUSE I WAS GONNA FONDLE THOSE TITTIES AND LICK THAT LITTLE CLITTY" Gertner do their final intro.

Joel introduces his latest tag team project, Joey Matthews and Christian York, BUT DA BALDIES ATTACK ON THE FLOOR! They have a fun brawl. JOEL GOES OUT, BUT ANGEL HITS A DDT ON THE FLOOR WHOA! They throw them in the ring and keep the beating up. Jerry Lynn and Cyrus come out, and Lynn hits Joey with a Cradle Piledriver. He tags in Cyrus and apparently this was a match? Da Baldies hold York down, and Cyrus pins Joey Matthews as Danny Daniels counts the three. God damnit. Cyrus gives Da Baldies some cigars and they high five he, Lynn, and Daniels and leave. Cyrus gets on the mic and says the greatest wrestler to ever come out of the state of Minneapolis has something to say. Jerry Lynn says these two morons need to get this. Their job is to make stars look good. He had that job for 12 fucking years and it's not his job anymore. He IS a star. HE'S THE WHOLE FUCKING SHOW. The crowd chants for RVD and Lynn waits. No music plays and Lynn says he's not here, he's not coming, and he's NOT the big surprise tonight. The surprise tonight is that he will NEVER work another match in ECW unless it's the main event, because he's Jerry...metal growl Lynn. Good content, hilarious delivery.

Match #1: Danny Daniels/Roadkill [c] vs. EZ Money/Julio Dinero w/ Chris Hamrick & Elektra [ECW World Tag Team Championship]
Decent showcase for the champions. They do spots and 80% or so of them connect and look good, but that's what you get with Hot Commodity. Doring again tries a dive and is nowhere near athletic enough to pull that shit off. Roadkill has an awesome hot tag and is looking more and more like the star of the team. The Buggy Bang gets the pin over Julio.
**1/4

Hot Commodity attacks in a 3 on 2, but Nova hits the ring for a surprise match. God damnit. Couldn't go out on a high note, huh?

Match #2: Nova vs. Chris Hamrick w/ Spike Dudley
Nova at least now looks like a real wrestler with plain leather pants. This is horrible all around since it's mostly Nova botching a lot of stuff and being really awful. The ref is bumped and then Chris Chetti runs out in a ref shirt to do a quick count on a roll up for Hamrick. A real ref comes out, but Lou E. Dangerously comes to break a phone on his head. Spike Dudley comes out to hit Chetti with the Acid Drop and then Nova hits a sloppy roll over on Hamrick into the Kryptonite Krunch and Spike counts to three. Okay.
3/4*

In the back, Steve Corino cuts a promo. He says he's the ECW World Heavyweight Champion, but two years ago, everybody thought he was a comedy act. He went from being Rhino's manager to ending the career of Dusty Rhodes to winning the title ALL IN ONE YEAR. AND HE HAS NO GOLD FOR THE LAST MONTH. He says he's taking down that title tonight and coming back here with it around his waist, AND THEN JUSTIN, HE'S GOING TO FUCK YOUR GIRL. BECAUSE HE'S THE WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION.

Match #3: Tommy Dreamer vs. CW Anderson ["I Quit" Match]
Tommy's final ECW PPV shirt is just a Logan's Roadhouse shirt, beginning his transition to Nommy. This was a huge letdown given the praise I usually see heaped upon it. They initially go for each other's arms and it's good. They no-sell it and move to the legs. They also no-sell that and just do stuff, which is solid, but I'm annoyed by now. My time has been wasted. Why not just do stuff from the onset? There's enough cool pieces to this that they didn't need to blow time on fake psychology. Tommy hits the DVD through a table off the middle and then wraps table wire around CW's eyes and face until he quits.
**3/4

They actually shake hands post-match. THE ERA OF HONOR IS SOON UPON US.

In the back, Steve Corino finds Francine and wants a handjob. She asks where his belt is and he says he'll get it back, but he's still the Champion. She says a champion has a belt and says she'll say yes once she sees the gold. Corino asks where Justin is, and she says he's in the bathroom with a friend. Corino asks if that's what his hand is called, and Francine says it's Missy Hyatt. Corino laughs and says John Tatum's waiting for him then. Corino leaves and Credible comes out with a gross looking Missy Hyatt. Credible tells Francine he's gotta get it somewhere and she says until he gets the belt, he's not getting her, so says to do whatever. Credible then leaves with Hyatt. Gross. She bumps into Corino and Victory in the hallway, and Corino marks out. Victory says hi and says she knows him. She asks if she fucked him, and he says she just managed him. She leaves and Victory calls her a bitch. And then in a few years, Corino will also fuck Missy Hyatt for real and she'll yell out "FUCK ME HOT STUFF FUCK ME". Victory is then over it and drops the HIGH SPOT.

Match #4: The Unholy Alliance vs. Super Crazy/Kid Kash vs. Little Guido/Tony Mamaluke [#1 Contenders Three Way Dance]
Managers are on the floor. This ruled and I'm assuming this is what ends up being MOTN and the last great ECW match. Tons and tons and tons of spots. Tajiri and Super Crazy do their thing and it is fantastic. Kid Kash hits a crazy dive, but then he gets caught behind the ref's back and Sal splashes his back. Tony covers for the elimination. I don't get the FBI boner Paul has. Tajiri and Mikey guide them AGAIN. They do decent control stuff on Mikey before Tajiri kills everyone. He destroys Guido with head kicks, musts Tony, and they hit Stereo Bridging Germans to win.
***

Coming back, Team Me are in the ring with Dawn Marie. Johnny gets on the mic and says he wants his turn with Dawn Marie and Diamond is hogging her. He says he hasn't benefited from her services yet, so he enlisted the part-time services of the Blue Boy Management Company. Blue Boy and Jasmine come out.

Match #5: Balls Mahoney/Nova vs. Team Me w/ Everyone
This is all of a minute before Rhino comes out to destroy everyone. ALL THE GORES.
1/2*

GORE TO DAWN MARIE! CHILLY WILLY TRIES TO MAN UP AND DIES TOO. RHINO HITS JASMINE ST. CLAIR WITH A SUPER PILEDRIVER TOO!

In the back, Rhino cuts a promo. HE'S NOT DONE YET. HE'S JUST STARTED. HE TASTES VIOLENCE. HE FEELS VIOLENCE. HE'S FUCKING JUST BEGUN TONIGHT. VIOLENCE GETS HIM OFF MORE THAN HAVING JASMINE SUCK HIS FUCKING COCK. VIOLENCE. HE LOVES VIOLENCE. HE'S JUST BEGUN.

Match #6: Steve Corino [c] vs. Justin Credible vs. The Sandman [ECW World Heavyweight Championship - Tables, Ladders, & Canes Match]
As always, Victory and Francine are there. Sandman is fun here, but Corino is the only one who really cares about if this is any good. There's some fun spots and Sandman and Corino both take some wonderful bumps. Corino and Credible team up at a few points. Using the cheap and weak painting ladders both made this look super bush league and meant a lot more botching due to how they're not designed for this. They finally got a huge one at the end, but the belt got raised up. It's clearly because the ladder was higher than the belt, but Joey keeps making a big deal about it and claims a conspiracy, but it doesn't make sense. Corino and Credible have a sloppy fall through it, and Sandman gets the belt. Okay.
**1/4

Post-match, both heels shake The Sandman's hand. THE 2000S BELONGS TO HONOR.

Da Baldies come out to fight Corino and Credible to the back! WAIT, WHAT? CONSPIRACY. Francine and Victory follow them to the back and Sandman is alone in the ring. SANDMAN TURNS AROUND AND RHINO IS IN THE RING! RHINO GOES THE SANDMAN! RHINO GRABS THE MIC AND HITS US WITH "FUCK YOU, NEW YORK!" HE ASKS WHY HE'S TV CHAMPION WHEN THERE'S NO FUCKING TV, AND IF THIS IS THE BELT EVERYONE'S WILLING TO DIE FOR, IT'S THE BELT HE'LL KILL FOR! He challenges Sandman to give him the match, so Sandman says "FUCK YOU". Rhino says to give him the match and die, OR HIS FAMILY IN THE CROWD DIES. The crowd chants for RVD and Rhino says there's no fucking surprise but this. He says he'll kill his family, so Sandman says to ring the bell!

Match #8: The Sandman [c] vs. Rhino [ECW World Heavyweight Championship]
Only a minute, but fuck it. RHINO RAMS SANDMAN THROUGH A CORNER TABLE, BUT HE KICKS OUT. OFF THE APRON PILEDRIVER THROUGH A TABLE, BUT HE KICKS OUT! PILEDRIVER ON THE TABLE SHARDS AND RHINO WINS THE BELT! FUCK YEAH!
*

Cyrus runs down and announces Rhino as the UNIFIED ECW CHAMPION! THE NETWORK FINALLY DID IT, FUCK YEAH! He challenges ANY man anywhere in the world who has the guts to face the champion, they should bring it RIGHT FUCKING NOW. AND RVD COMES OUT! Jerry Lynn attacks from behind though. Rhino leaves, and it's RVD/Lynn. Oh.

Match #9: Rob Van Dam vs. Jerry Lynn w/ Cyrus
This is a greatest hits show with some additional stalling thrown in. Actually, all of the stalling. They somehow used ALL the stalling, which is why we've seen less and less stalling during the 2000s and 2010s. They basically just go into a pattern where RVD will do a spot, lots of pausing, and then maybe Lynn will do a spot, with lots of stalling, and back and forth. Easily the worst match they ever had. Possibly the worst ECW PPV main event ever too. The best part of this is Joel Gertner returning and hitting Cyrus with a DDT! He holds the chair for RVD and RVD hits the Van Terminator to win. Okay.
**

In the back, Justin Credible and Steve Corino announce an alliance. Corino says they chased each other for half a year, but it's time to get extreme. Credible says this is how you make an impact, and they pose together. At least ECW died before Corino had to carry this sack of shit.

Match #1: Michael Shane vs. Oz

GOD DAMN YOU. Oz thinks he's badass enough to rock "For Whom The Bell Tolls" as a theme. This is pretty shitty, but it's two recent wrestling school grads doing stuff, so it was never going to be great. Especially when you're not exactly going to develop into anything beyond passable in Shane's case. Shane wins with a Flying X-Factor.
3/4*

Match #2: The Prodigy vs. Phoenix

EVEN WORSE. DEATH BED ECW UNDERCARD IS BASICALLY ECWA'S UNDERCARD. CAN'T WAIT FOR JAPANESE POOL BOY! Phoenix is a TWA asshole, and Prodigy Tom Marquez still blows. He wins with a super sloppy Tiger Suplex that probably would have pinned both men if the referee gave a shit.
1/4*

Match #3: Joey Matthews/Christian York vs. Little Guido/Tony Mamaluke

Decent house show showcase win for the faces. FBI did some solid stuff but clearly held back. Joey and York have good dives, and beat Tony Mamaluke with a Double Hip Toss into a Tandem Powerbomb.
**1/4

CW Anderson and Lou hit the ring, and Lou shits on the town and the South. Jack Victory comes out in defense and a match happens.

Match #4: CW Anderson w/ Lou E. Dangerously vs. Jack Victory [Street Fight]
This is a decent house show brawl. They fight into the crowd and have some good and fun gritty spots like grinding Jack's face into the brick wall, chairs to the head, whips into rows of empty chairs, etc. Jack Victory bled a lot. Danny Daniels did a run in, and that brought out Spike Dudley. He gave Daniels the Acid Drop, and then CW also got one. He pulled Victory on top and the real ref counted three.
**

Match #5: Super Crazy [8] vs. Yoshihiro Tajiri [7] [Best of Forever Series - Match #16]

This is just good enough to be great. Very much a house show performance in that they don't do a lot of dives or crazy weapon spots, but it's these two. Tajiri kicks super hard, Crazy and Tajiri do some fun lucha spots, etc. I will never hate this match when it gets time, and this got some ten minutes. Tajiri goes nuts with head kicks at the end, and the Bullet Basement Dropkick ends the match.
***

They have a final match on the 1/13 show to finally settle this apparent Best of Seventeen series.

But I want to know the exact score, non-recorded stuff included! So I went back and looked at everything, and ran numbers up through this match I just reviewed, because I am a stupid stupid man.

Singles:

Yoshihiro Tajiri – 18
Super Crazy – 15

Tags:

Yoshihiro Tajiri – 4
Super Crazy – 6

Three Way Dance:

Yoshihiro Tajiri – 15
Super Crazy – 5

OVERALL:

Yoshihiro Tajiri: 37
Super Crazy: 26

So that makes 63 meetings over two years, not counting the three way dances other people like Jerry Lynn or Little Guido won.

Match #6: Danny Doring/Nova vs. EZ Money/Julio Dinero
Hey, awful! Nova is completely fucking useless, Hot Commodity is whatever, and Doring isn't nearly as fun or good when he's being super serious. Julio gets hit with Doring's Butterfly Impaler, and Nova hits a shitty Senton Bomb for the win.
*1/2

Even as ECW dies, they go to hilarious lengths to make Credible seem special, as he gets sparkler pyro for his entrance. The one use of pyro for an entrance in ECW history, I believe, and it's for this mook.

Match #7: Tommy Dreamer vs. Justin Credible w/ Francine
Decent enough house show match. An environment like this where almost nobody is trying actually benefits Justin Credible. He puts in his usual amount of effort, which is average at best, but with everyone but Tajiri and Crazy and York/Matthews and Dreamer so far taking the night off, he doesn't look half as bad. Justin even goes to his standby of mid-match mic work. Not a lot of interesting stuff here, and Tommy wins clean with the DDT.
*3/4

Before the main event, The Sandman does his big entrance and sits on a ladder outside the ring. Rhino gets on the mic and says he can have his beer and weapons, and those are fun, but asks if he can wrestle. Sandman laughs and asks in response if a bear shits in the woods. Sandman gets in and Rhino demands a wrestling match. This doesn't really fit Rhino AT ALL. Feels like Corino was originally planned for this, so they plugged Rhino in his spot with his lines.

Match #8: Rhino [c] vs. The Sandman [ECW World Heavyweight Championship]
This is also a total house show deal, but in a fun way. Sandman doing basic matwork is always going to be hilariously entertaining, like a prototype of when Necro Butcher breaks out that kind of stuff, but less good. Rhino does generic stuff and then a ladder comes in. They have some nice nearfalls and use a table, ladder, and railing. Rhino hits the Gore through the table and then the Piledriver to win.

ECW FanCam - The Final Show
January 13th, 2001
Pine Bluff, AR

Match #1: Nova vs. The Prodigy

Hey, horrible! Nova can't do anything clean or that isn't really contrived, and The Prodigy can't do anything, period. Nova wins with the Last Rites/Cross Rhodes/Roll of the Dice/Luther Reigns Supreme/etc.
1/2*

Match #2: Joey Matthews/Christian York vs. EZ Money/Julio Dinero

Solid eight minute deal. Instead of doing a ton of spots, Hot Commodity wastes the last possible time anyone would give a shit about them trying to do an old-style heel act with lots of stalling and stooging, and they are not good at it at all. They beat Julio Dinero with the Double Hip Toss into a Powerbomb deal.
**

Match #3: Yoshihiro Tajiri [8] vs. Super Crazy [8] [Best of Forever Seventeen Series - Match #17]

This was far too short and held back. Super disappointing end to all of this, and my expectations were raised by their fun match the night before. Lots of time killing low level stuff and cool holds that meant nothing as this ended right as it was getting good. Crazy rolls through a Huracanrana into a sunset flip for the win. :(
**1/2

Match #4: Danny Doring/Tommy Dreamer vs. Little Guido/Tony Mamaluke

Decent stuff again. FBI is alright, and Tommy and Doring are decent enough. Neither is lighting the world on fire as a super serious babyface, but they're perfectly good when they get a little looser here. Guido and Tony have some nice teamwork and a good control segment on Doring. Tommy helps Doring with the Buggy Bang on Tony to win.
**

They do the CW/Lou/Victory segment from the last night's show.

Match #5: Jack Victory vs. CW Anderson w/ Lou E. Dangerously
And this is the same match, down to Spike's interference at the end.
**

Match #6: Michael Shane vs. Oz

Horrible again! Shane now wins in about three minutes with a SUPER brutal BAH GAWD FLYING DOUBLE AXE HANDLE. HOLY SHIT. HOLY SHIT. HOLY SHIT.
1/2*

Match #7: Rhino [c] vs. Spike Dudley [ECW World Heavyweight & Television Championships]

Entertaining! It's a lesser version of their stuff from the tail end of 2000, but that's expected. Spike Dudley is the only one on this show to put in a kind of legitimate effort you'd see on an actual show that mattered. Which is hilarious, because as one of the guys to make a quick jump to WWF (along with Rhino and Credible), he absolutely had no reason to try this hard. He takes nasty chair shots and bleeds and takes a table bump off a failed Acid Drop. Back inside, he kicks out of a Powerbomb onto a lot of chairs, but then Rhino wins with a Piledriver onto a chair.
**3/4

For the main event, ECW debuts a smoke machine and strobe lighting effect for Justin Credible. THIS IS SAD NOW, YOU GUYS. JUST STOP. As Sandman does his crowd deal, he gets mobbed by fans because ECW security is basically just for show at this point.

Match #8: The Sandman vs. Justin Credible w/ Francine
HOUSE SHOW PERFORMANCE. Justin wins with a roll up in like 4 minutes, which...okay. Sandman then demands a rematch and they have weapons and it's a less bad one. Credible does mic work, but the mic audio is so muffled and horrible that you can't make anything out. They use a piece of side paneling for a house. Credible accidentally Superkicks Francine, and Sandman hits a piledriver on the siding to win. Horrible way to end this.
*3/4

Credible and Sandman actually shake hands, so you know this is the end. The roster comes out with a ton of beer to celebrate in the ring. They drink and Tommy Dreamer thanks everybody for everything. Sandman says this Bud's for you and cracks one. "This is Extreme" and the file ends with everyone hugging and being emotional in the ring.

Goodbye, ECW.

No competition this year, not truly. Only team together the entire year and performing at a high level, although not a GREAT level due to their inexperience.

WRESTLER OF THE YEAR:

1995: The Sandman
1996: Sabu
1997: Sabu
1998: Rob Van Dam
1999: Super Crazy

This is also a super obvious one. It goes to the man with the best individual year in ECW history, having been in the two best matches in ECW history in 2000, and three of the top 5. Everything he touched turned to gold, and with his only legitimate competition in Steve Corino not competing very often for the first half of the year, there's no way this goes in any other way.
