High Commander

Duran had been visiting with Warrick again, which left him, as usual, in a rather stressed and touchy mood. It was nearing the end of the day and the vole was not looking forward to facing dinner with his wife at the moment. He did not want to sit for another moment. He was a vole of action, and he dealt with stress by running or by practicing with his rapier or any other number of physical things that would get him properly exhausted and sweaty. Laurel would try to soothe him with rich food and lots of loafing about. That was how she relaxed, and he understood this. His need for a good workout when he was stressed was one of the few things she didn’t understand about him, and one he was tired of bickering about with her.

So, instead of going back up the stairs after the Warrick ordeal, he began to walk down into the caverns. Tally was always encouraging members of the fort to take up swimming… perhaps he would find some solace in that today.

Lost in his thoughts, the High Commander did not notice he was coming upon another beast in the tunnel until he was practically on top of the otter.

“Oh! Hello there. What brings you down here today?”
