He watched the other soldiers, their colorful pins and armbands. The mouse would get his own soon... but which color? While working in the Fort, he had learned a bit about each tower. The West Tower was working on a navy, but Benoni had been trapped in that kind of thing for too long. The East Tower did patrols, which could be exciting, and probably became so without warning. The North Tower was for defense, fighting, which he'd been practicing with Duran. The South Tower directed correspondence, what Benoni was supposed to do since (or when) he wasn't yet a warrior. Benoni's eyes focused with his mind as he saw the Commander he was looking for. He meandered over to an empty seat beside her and scooted into it. While spooning soup into his mouth, he kept glancing sideways at the squirrel, trying to make eye contact. When he did get her attention, he knew what he wanted to talk about, but - not ready to get to the point - he began chattering away. "This hotroot soup is really good. I remember Roe's soup at that contest, it was crazy. Heh, much different today. Look at this sword, isn't it fun?" He held up the short sword sheathed on his belt. "The High Commander taught me how to use it. He says I'm getting much better. Do I get to be in battles now? I'd like to fight a vermin. Last time I saw vermin up close, I was rowing their blasted ship. Now I know how to fight and I'm here with all the Fortbeasts. Commander Russet, how often do you see vermin? I heard that lots of vermin come from the North. If I come-- well, if you let me into your tower, would I get to fight a lot? Or should I stay a messenger boy until I'm older?" He finally got close enough to his target, and then his desire for food overcame his excitement. He stuffed a large chunk of cheese into his mouth, but his eyes went back to Sceotend to see what she would say. ((I researched around the fort, so hopefully I didn't auto anything or anyone I shouldn't have. Sceo, pokes I hope this is okay with you. If you don't what to join this thread, I can edit. XD))
