Name: Uriah Thunderpaw
Age: 44
Gender: Male
Species: Badger

Concept: Because some things might seem a little out of place, or might seem a bit confusing without reading ahead or behind, here is the basic concept I'm shooting for:

Uriah Thunderpaw is a badger from Salamandastron who has been serving with the forces there for all his life. A very tough sod, he is never far from combat, and looks quite the picture of death because of it. He is very honorable, however, and gives respect to all who deserve it, especially commanding officers. He has been sent from Salamandastron to Black Arch Fort in an advisory capacity, as a show of good favor from Lord Thickstripe. So the story goes, anyways.

Appearance: Once you've seen one badger, you've seen them all. Big, muscular, stocky, tall, black and white fur, huge paws: y'know. The usual.

Uriah is no exception to the rule. He stands a good head taller (at least) than almost all other woodland beasts, with the possible exception of some hares. And that's including their ears. His fur is the stereotypical coloring for a badger: black, with white stripes over his face, creating a bit of a mask effect. Because of his age, however, there are tints of white in the black, giving him a more salt-and-pepper appearance than he had when he was in his youth.

Underneath the fur, Uriah has kept himself in immaculate shape: he is quite muscular, and stands with a bearing that makes this very obvious. However, despite this, he is not exactly the most pleasant figure to witness: throughout his travels, he has also collected quite a number of gruesome scars. To further accentuate this fact, his left ear is, in fact, completely gone. He has a rather nasty scar leading from the right corner of his mouth leading all the way to the hinge of his jaw, and various scars all across his back. There are a host of other minor scarrings that litter Uriah's body as well, and he is never without his fair share of fresh injuries, be they bruises, scratches, cuts, or actual bleeding wounds.

Overtop of his fur, the battle-worn badger wears very simple clothing. Due to his natural coloration, he tends to stay away from the more experimental of colors, sticking with simple blacks and greys. Trousers are his usual fare, with a simple shirt or vest over his shoulders, for modesty. In combat, the badger opts for mobility over protection, choosing to don a mail hauberk instead of the full-plate that his badger brethren seem to favor. Underneath the hauberk sits a plain black doublet, and overtop the mail, Uriah favors a plain white surcoat, devoid of any coat-of-arms. For more formal affairs, however, the badger usually goes all out, wearing his Salamandastron uniform, bedecked with all the medals that he has received over the years.

Personality: For the sake of brevity, Uriah's personality can be broken into two different modes: combat, and social.

In combat, Uriah is a powerhouse. He treats combat with respect, almost as a ritual; he realizes the fatality that accompanies all combat, almost all too well. As such, he regards his opponents with all due respect. Having said that, he never pulls punches, and always delivers blows to the greatest potential his strength can afford him (which is usually quite great). Like some other badgers of renown, Uriah is also afflicted by the Bloodwrath. He likes to believe that he has a greater control over the condition than most others have had, but whether this is true is up for debate (and, given his physical state after most combats, is most likely not true at all). He has yet to deliver a fatal blow to an ally while afflicted by it, however, and he takes solace in that fact.

In almost every other situation, however, Uriah is very much out of his element. He has little to no social graces, unless you count sticking to the chain of command like glue a social grace. He is married, but has a very utilitarian outlook on their relationship. Admittedly, when he was younger, his personality allowed him more leeway when it came to interacting with others, but with his age came what he deemed to be wisdom, and he followed his true calling with all his heart. As such, he finds himself at a loss in social situations, having given his body and mind to combat and tactics. This leads to him being very reserved and quiet, only speaking when asked a direct question, and sometimes only when it is asked by a superior officer.

History: Uriah Thunderpaw was born into a badger family loyal to the Lord of Salamandastron. Uriah's father served the current Lord Thickstripe's father as a loyal warrior, and served as a great figure for Uriah to grow up and idolize. He received the best training a badger from Salamandastron could, one that taught loyalty, strength, respect, independence and skill with a weapon. Other than this, his mother attempted to teach him the softer things in life, though he never took to them quite as well as he did his other lessons.

Seeing as how Uriah's father and the senior Lord Thickstripe were approximately the same age, Uriah often found himself in close proximity to the junior Thickstripe. They formed a tenuous bond, as, even at that young age, both of them knew that, when they came of age, their respective positions would put their friendship at odds. Thus, they've had a strained friendship since that time, always struggling at the fact that Uriah was naught but a guard in the Salamandastron corps, whereas Lord Thickstripe was, in fact, the Lord of Salamandastron. As such, they often have disagreements, which sometimes get quite heated. Uriah imagines that his father and the senior Lord Thickstripe had much the same relationship.

Uriah's Bloodwrath was discovered during a sparring match with one of his fellow classmates. Uriah took a foul step, and his opponent struck at his arm, breaking it in a single blow. Uriah struck back with the Bloodwrath upon him, nearly killing the young cub. Their teacher intervened in time, and Uriah passed out from pain. Surprisingly, however, it took very little time for the bone to set and heal, which is a trait that Uriah has been thankful for all his life. Especially so, considering how many injuries he has sustained over the years.

When he came of age, Uriah was admitted into the forces of Salamandastron, one of very few badgers who decided to stay and serve the Badger Lord, as opposed to travelling abroad to find their own destiny. Thus it was, Uriah staying behind and protecting the mountain fortress, Mossflower Forest, and the Badger Lord himself.

Throughout his life, Uriah has seen much that the world has to offer. He has a wife, and has fathered three cubx, two males and a female. He has fought in defense of his land many times over, and has suffered many injuries during said defense. He has visited Redwall Abbey on a few occasions, has gone South to visit Castle Southsward once, and is now on his way to Black Arch Fort for the first time since it's founding. He has been ordered by Lord Thickstripe to offer his combat and tactic expertise to High Commander Swiftpike, as a show of good favor from Salamandastron. In truth, there may have been more personal reasons for the Lord sending his old friend away, but Uriah does not speak of such things. Such would be to disrespect a superior officer.

Skills and Weaponry: Uriah is well-versed in most combat techniques, and knows how to best put an opponent out of commission, both lethally and not. He carries a large, double-handed warhammer into combat, and carries various other fighting implements with him as well.

Outside of combat, the badger knows how to survive in the field, being able to distinguish between poisonous berries and ones that are edible, and the like. He can make a crude shelter to protect beasts from the environment, and has very rudimentary experience with cooking.

(I hope I haven't taken too many liberties with this. I thought it would be an interesting character idea to play with, but I can make changes if need be.)

*rubs hands together* Oooh, our first badger! Very exciting. :}

I don't think you've taken too many liberties, actually. Not that everyone could get away with that, mind, it's just that the liberties you chose to take fit quite nicely with the way I imagined Thickstripe and Salamandastron and all that. Your idea is unique with your badger staying on in a role that was not the lead and you can see how it's shaped him.

Uriah is a great character, particularly for a badger. I'm ridiculously excited to see what happens with him here. It will be especially interesting to see how he and Duran get along.
