((I think anyone about should jump into this thread. Let's have some fun!)) A fine spring day. Snow was beginning to melt and green grass was already sprouting out of the bare patches. The sun shone down, making even the dirty, trampled snow dazzle with brilliance. It was warm enough to go about without a cloak. And that is exactly what Orion was doing. Stepping out of the North Tower, he took a deep, satisfied breath. Winter was finally ending, and with it, the cold. Good riddance. The North Tower guard had never been one for winter. Found it a nuisance always having to try and stay warm and dry. Granted, it was much easier to do in this fort than out in the wilderness, but it was still a nuisance. Stone walls never were very good for keeping in heat. An uncustomary bounce to his step, Orion headed towards the Keep. He was in a good mood today, even going so far as to smile and nod at those who greeted him. His mood was ruined, however, when a wet ball of slush connected with the side of his head. Spluttering, he brushed the snow from his fur and looked angrily around, trying to discover the culprit. If it was Commander Ki... |

Marabell was more than a little happy that spring was just around the corner. She hated the winter with a passion, partially because that meant more patients due to the cold, flu, or falls, and partially due to the fact that Marabell was often a patient herself after slipping on the ice. The shrew wasn't exactly the most graceful creature. In fact, she'd caused a few accidents at the fort already, which she still felt bad about. Some beasts jokingly called her a walking disaster and Marabell had to wonder if they were right. The young shrew stood at the window of the infirmary, her arms crossed and her chest falling as she released a quiet sigh. "Marabell, you should go out and enjoy the weather," came a soft voice from a desk close by. Marabell glanced over her shoulder at SilverRose and sent the red squirrel a timid smile. "But we might get more patients and-" "Marabell, you've stayed inside for the past five days. I think you deserve a break." SilverRose leaned back in her chair, causing it to creak. She placed her pen next to her parchment and dropped her chin onto her paw thoughtfully. "Besides, I'm still on duty and Narika's aching to do something exciting. You should take her outside...have some fun." "Are you certain?" Marabell asked cautiously. The look SilverRose sent her clearly said that the squirrel would toss Marabell out the door herself if the shrew tried to argue. Laughing both nervously and softly, Marabell passed the healer and stepped into the hall. It didn't take her long to find Narika who was spying on one of the other healers. She crept up behind the maid and dropped her paws onto the little squirrel's shoulders. Narika squeaked and jumped back in surprise, nearly knocking Marabell off balance. "Mara!" "Heh, caught you that time. Come on. Your mama says we should play outside." Narika spun around, her bright green eyes flashing. "Really! Let's go, let's go!" Without further ado, Narika had grabbed Marabell's paw and was practically dragging the taller, slightly older shrew outside. On the way out, Marabell managed to snag two shawls, one of which she wrapped around Narika while she tied the other one over her own chest. She wasn't about to have SilverRose's daughter fall sick outside due to negligence. The pair headed out the door and Narika instantly went for the mush that was still left melting on the ground. Marabell smiled at the little maid and breathed in deeply. The warming wind toyed with the three-layered skirt she wore and her flowing shirt. Marabell was known for wearing as many colors as possible. The colors were just so pretty and....well, it was fun to sew together old cloths and clothes to make her bright wardrobe. Shaking her head, the young shrew began to walk around the keep, her eyes resting on the sky. She was about to call to Narika to make certain the maid was keeping up when a slush ball hit her right on the tail. Marabell squeaked and spun around. Narika was hopping on her footpaws, laughing as the shrew tried to brush aside the wet snow. "Narika!" "Hehehe!" Without even thinking of apologizing, the squirrelmaid started scooping up another ball. Marabell uttered a quiet groan. So much for a relaxing day! The shrew spun and went running while Narika threw slushballs after her. It was typical of the little maid to pick on Marabell. Narika had a feisty personality when she tried while Marabell was known for being extremely timid. The shrew jumped around a corner and ducked as another snowball was hurled through the air. It missed Marabell, but as she righted herself, she heard it splat against something else. Narika gasped. Marabell glanced up and saw Orion standing a few feet away with a furious expression on his face. She could practically see the heat rising from his fur as the slush melted. Startled, Marabell put her paw to her mouth while Narika bolted to hide behind the shrew. "Oh dear...oh....I'm sorry," Marabell began apologizing quickly. "She was just playing and...oh...um....I'm so sorry." Of course, with Narika hiding behind her skirts, Marabell had to wonder if Orion even knew who she was talking about. |

Teltoli made his way out of the Gatehouse with a new glimmer in his eye. Winter was ending and Spring was on the way. The slushy snow squished to the sides as his leather wrapped footpaws bounced forth. The hare had a stave under his arm and was intent on finding the fort's assistant blacksmith. Perhaps Akira would be up for a little rematch from their spar on the arch a few months previous. As he walked the hare took in the sights of the new season. He could just see small pink buds and tiny green leaves forming on some near by trees. The snow was melting away from the paths where other beasts footpaws had recently been. As he turned to the side Tel then noticed a red squirrel with a couple of beasts around him. It appeared that they were consoling the squirrel. As Tel neared he saw what appeared to be the remains on a slush ball still sticking to Orion's crimson fur. He smiled winningly and tapped little Nakira on the shoulder. As she turned around the kindly hare adopted his most serious face. "Pelting innocent passers-by with slush balls is a top offense there missy... I'm quite sure yer aware of this eh?" He then smiled and waggled his ears at the little maid. |

What Teltoli didn't know was that, in the minds of some creatures, pelting another with slush balls is perfectly no offense if the peltee in question was of the same rank! Jelal Waveskimmer always enjoyed the slushy times before Spring, at least when he had been out on his own. It meant plenty of places to enjoy his otter instincts and go mud sliding somewhere. The jovial otter had always been a fan of pretty much every season, and he was always ready to enjoy each one. Which is one of the reasons that he was strolling along in his winter uniform, humming a little ditty to himself and looking about for potential targets- victims! No... he was looking for comrades, yes, comrades to share the joy of the oncoming Spring with. Winter never really let go of the land until Spring was firmly entrenched and ready to fight, claiming the land with warm sun and green grass, while winter went out with several reminders that it had been here first and would come back the next year. This was in the form of the melting snow all over the place. It was practically water that one could pick up and toss around, so Jelal saw little harm in, upon seeing Teltoli's back turned and reprimanding another for slush throwing, showing him a bit of dramatic irony and scooping up some slush himself. With a grin and a quick glance around to make sure nobeast was looking (wasn't really proper for sergeants to partake in such nonsense, was it?) he levered back his muscular forearm and lobbed the ball of sloppy wetness, aiming straight at the spot between the hare's shoulders. The gloppy ball began to disintegrate even before it stopped at the top of its parabolic path and descended with a alarming accuracy, little bits flecking off like an attack force spreading out in an envelopment. Of course, upon seeing the impact the otter would return to an all-too-innocent posture when and if the shot connected. Look out, fort denizens, Jelal was acting the cub today!
