Crunch.

Crackle crinkle.

Shfshfshf.

Dale grinned, chuckled, whiskers twitching. His footpaws galumphed through the colored leaves as he made his way across the fort grounds. He had never much been one for the joys of the land. As such, he had never learned that shuffling through autumn leaves could be so enjoyable. Unfortunately, it also looked dashed unsightly to have the lawns strewn with dead and dying leaves. A military institution needed to be shipshape. His ship would never have debris scattered across the decks.

Digging through the handcart he was pulling, compliments of the head carpenter, he snatched a rake and turned to face the small group of guardbeasts gathered around. "Alright, Baffers! Grab a rake, and let's swab th' place! No better way fer a fall workout, I 'spect!"

A chorus of yessirs and the group set to work.

"Ett's a leafy toim o'year,
Wid 'ee y'arvest moon cheer,

Work'ee noon away,
Bain't moi fav'rit koinda day!

Rather 'ave 'ee foir an' a bubblin cup o'zoop,
'ett's a-freezin' out yurr, an'moi spirit'll droop,

'En 'ee chilly-nilly frosters,
Wid'ee gurt sea-dawgy bosser!"

Lorna beamed mischeviously at Dale, as she shuffled back and forth with a broom. She wasn't particularly efficient.... leaves flew left and right as she swung the tool with gusto. The mole was bundled head-to-paw in a strange assortment of shawls and scarves, but she trundled about in high spirits.

With a glint in her eye, she scanned the deck for the unlucky beast destined to become the next victim of her verse.

"Hrm. Ahem. A-HEM."

Sonia was standing directly behind the mole, rake in one paw and the other on her hip. The hare had just finished meticulously sweeping a wide swatch of the deck into neat pile of leaves. Lorna, oblivious to her surroundings, was backing straight through the pile. All of her fringe-covered, yarn-adorned shawls were snagging leaves and scattering them to the four winds. The fur on the back of Sonia's neck stood up in annoyance.

"h'I say, STOP!"

She set the rake to one side, and grabbed the mole by the shoulders before the entire pile went up in a swirl of debris. The hare commander spun Lorna around with a push to one shoulder, until she was facing her directly. For her own safety, she grabbed the wildly brandished rake from the mole. Sonia was still fairly new here and didn't want to make poor first impressions, but at the same time.....

"Jolly good idea singin' an' whatnot, keeps spirits up'n all that posh, but s'far more important to watch where you're stepping!"

With a stern frown, she thrust the rake back into Lorna's paws. Considering the matter closed, she spun neatly on one heel and returned to her own leaf pile.
