Shilldah Treach

Name: Shilldah Treach

Age (we use years): 16 or the woodlander equivalent -- Shilldah wouldn't be thought of as an adult for a few seasons yet, but she is seasons out of Dibbunhood.

Gender: Female

Species: Mouse

Appearance: Shilldah's a little grey-brown thing -- average-sized for a mouse and once a little round from a Dibbunhood of good eating but now very skinny. She's fastidiously clean and in her travels has favored a mother-made brown tunic handed down from one of her older siblings and a hardy pair of short breeches of more or less the same color. A rope belt is enough to hold those up.

Personality: Shilldah was the second-youngest in her large family but aged more near the middle of the troop of mice youngsters in her community. Thus there are only a few classifications in her worldview, and until she learns better she'll keep trying to sort others according to the family-based social structure that's all she's known. The mouse is really rather playful and likes to cause harmless mischief, but a drummed-in respect for family authority figures will silence her on occasion. She is cheerful as a rule, having suffered only the minor disappointments and trials of sibling rivalry. Making friends (or erstwhile alliances) has always come easy, so she treats others as if they have already taken a shine to her or could in the near future be persuaded to like her.

History: The mouse was raised in a farming community consisting only of other mice. The occasional traveler was never turned away, but usually moved on as the close-knit community had little practice in welcoming outsiders for the long run. The little place in the plains was not a traveler's final destination. Shilldah always enjoyed the passing strangeness of strangers, but was happy to remain where she was for the rest of her life -- until Remorr. Caro Remorr was an elderly sea-otter full of tales of his youth on the river-mouth and his career on the seas. When Shilldah met him, he was on his wandering way inland to see the sights one couldn't see from a ship's deck, and she herself was laid up with a badly-sprained footpaw and a nasty bump on the head. The two of them would sit on her family's stoop and he'd entertain her with sleight of paw and stories: practical jokes with his holt-mates, or lively feasts and parties with all sorts of creatures, or roaring a warcry into the salty wind as the waves bore him down on whatever unlucky vermin band had decided to menace a merchanter.

Remorr moved on before Shilldah's mother would let her out of sight again -- she'd long been healed from the misadventure on the roofs which had caused her injuries -- and the forced inactivity started to rankle. "I'd like to see the sea," she'd said, and since her parents thought they knew a good deal about the restlessness of young ones, they waved her off happily. They knew she might only get a little way into the forest before she became tired of adventuring and started to miss home. So the mouse came west.

She really had no notion of woodcraft, having been raised on the plains, but her determination, perhaps naive, rarely faltered. Coming through the woods to the east, she'd subsisted on nuts and recognizable plants, though a taciturn squirrel coming the other way shared some of her supplies and taught her a little.

The mouse that entered Black Arch Fort's domain in late Spring was lucky she hadn't set out late in the year; she looked about as well-off as an unprepared but lucky traveler who'd barely made do, but every morning she was careful to clean the leaf matter and dirt from her fur and clothing: her mother never fed an untidy mouse. Ma Treach thought it showed a marked lack of respect.

Skills and weaponry: Shilldah has a staff and is moderately skilled with it: she could poleaxe some of the dumber vermin that would accost a slight traveler with a walking stick, and she can handle it with all the speed, tricks, and flourishes that one might expect from a mousemaid with a liking for sticks and a boring journey but no weaponry training. Shilldah's fantastic at throwing rocks or other paw-sized things, having engaged in multiple mock-wars with her siblings, but the only knife she's ever handled is the one she eats with, and generally, yes, spearing a bit of cheese and spearing the foe are similar actions, but the cheese is never running at you with his rusty cutlass held aloft. If Shilldah saw a pike she'd probably take to it immediately, despite the fact that the weapon is more commonly used by taller, sturdier species.

She'd count among her other skills a talent for singing (she can usually carry a tune but she's no lark) and whistling (much better).

Yay, a mouse! It's really great to see some more mice turning up at BAF. I like that Shilldah is young and naive but determined. She sort of reminds me of a young Mariel, only without the harsh history.

I'd like to see a little more about Shilldah's personality, her likes and dislikes, any big character flaws that she struggles with, what she dreams of doing or becoming. Things like that. If you plan to expand her character in RP, that's fine, otherwise I'd be interested to see just a little more about who she is. I like her history, that she's not a brilliant fighter or a tough warrior and she hasn't lost her entire family to vermin/flood/famine.

So! If you could just tweak what I've asked or let me know if you intend to expand in RP, then we'll see about getting you into a Tower. Nice to see you here! XD

Actually, I had planned to grow her in RP. If you'd rather, though, I'll lay out something more informative.

Er, where do we do the intro threads? In our respective towers, or could I have Shilldah show up along a cliff or something?

Okay! That's fine, don't worry about fixing anything else. I'll be interested to see how Shilldah fits into BAF. xD I'm sending you a PM about which Tower you'd like to put Shilldah in.

As for intro posts, it doesn't really matter. You can post wherever you like.
