Well, he had done it. The building of the restaurant was already in full swing, still picking up little design corks here and there, but altogether well underway. He liked to hang around in the building watching the others at work, despite the fact he figured he was getting in the way just standing around like an idiot. But he was excited, this was his project and it was coming together. Lynn kept telling him he was acting like a proud father whenever he spoke about it to their friends or perfect strangers, and he supposed he did in a way. He was making something of himself, showing everyone that he wasn’t like his father. Running a successful club that was packed every Friday and Saturday (and for concerts) and now opening a restaurant in an area that was bound for a lot of traffic in the city. He was excited, and a bit silly about it, but he couldn’t be more happy.

Him and Kathleen had decided to take a break. Or, well, he wasn’t entire sure what it was, but she had wanted to travel or go to school in another country and he didn’t want to hold her back, and they parted on good terms. They discussed maybe trying again when she returned, and they talked about the fact she would always be coming into the city to visit her family, but it seemed it had turned into a break up and he didn’t even know how it happened.
So Cyprus was single now, and not quite sure what to do with himself. It had been quite a while since he’d lived life as a single man. In fact, he couldn’t even remember how meeting girls went. He had been incredibly awkward around Lynn because he had been young, and then he supposed he was comfortable enough around Kathleen right from the beginning, but he still remembered it being so awkward in the beginning, as most new relationships are.

And he had not had sex since… oh Merlin, he didn’t want to think about that. He and Kathleen had not because she wanted to wait until marriage, mostly for her parent’s (he didn’t know how they would know, but she said she would feel guilty). Needless to say, he felt his mind wandering a little too frequently, and sometimes in the most awkward times and about girls he would really never consider on a normal basis. Some of the girls who came into the club in skimpy outfits for instance, who probably didn’t have much of anything besides sex appeal. He shuddered at the thought of bringing someone like that home to meet his family. But then he kept telling himself he didn’t need to find a relationship…

He leaned against the balcony looking down over the dance floor. It was still early in the evening, most people wouldn’t be arriving until around 11, but it was filling quickly. The music was blasting out through the speakers and the girls were working the floor, holding their trays over their heads as they moved to the tables in the corners below. The bartenders were already busy behind the counters.

A group of girls next to him on the balcony were talking rather loudly about not having brought any lipstick and about how hot the bouncer was (he figured it was Rob, who really was rather attractive for a bouncer) and Aurora walked past him, seemingly not noticing him, to head to the bar to get a round of drinks on her tray.

He was just trying not to smile (trying not to think of too much) when he noticed a girl adjusting her massive breasts below, when someone tapped him on his shoulder. Straightening, he turned around.

Loretta wasn't smiling. The person she had come to meet here hadn't showed up, and she had bought this new grey dress for no reason what so ever. Sitting back in her seat, she swung her legs together and sighed. Okay, so she was annoyed. And sulking.

It was just that being new to this city, she didn't know this from that, or who was who and all the rest of it. It made her feel uneasy...and having got to know a person, who in the end just stood her up, made it even worse.

This wasn't time for moping. She couldn't do moping very well anyway. She suited frustration much better.

Watching the scene around her, she noticed a blond man standing near the bar, and she almost bit her lip. That was him wasn't it? The man she was here to meet with? She'd show him.

Standing up, she shook her hair out around her, and smoothed her dress down, before walking towards Mr I-think-I'm-so-amazing-that-I-can-turn-up-whenever-I-feel-like-and-still-have-a-date.

Tapping his shoulder, she said, "Excuse me, Mr I-think-I'm-so-amazing-that-I-can-turn-up-whenever-I-feel-like-and-still-have-a-date. I have been waiting here, for a good hour. Early, just like you said. But you are late." And she threw a glass of wine in his face...

..."Oh," Loretta froze, "Oh no...I'm so sorry - I thought you were someone else..."

Just as he turned, half listening to the girl babbling about something he had no idea about, he was suddenly splashed with a glass of wine. Red it looked like, judging by the very dark stain spreading over his shirt under the vest, but it was hard to tell in the pulsing lights and semi-dark.
He stood there for a moment, hands brought out from his sides in a 'what-the-fuck' gesture before he lowered them and just... laughed outright when he realized the girl had thought he was someone else.

Nothing a quick spell couldn't fix in the office afterall, away from muggle eyes, which could include the girl in front of him.

"You thought I was this bastard named Mr... what was it? Mr I-think-I'm-so-amazing?" He laughed and moved away from the balcony, grabbing a napkin from Aurora's waitress platter as she moved past. She paused to give him an inquiring look as she started to dab at his shirt but he simply shook his head, unable to shake the amused smile, and she moved on. "No harm done." Really, it wasn't any harm. He would be upset maybe if he really was this guy, getting a glass of red wine chucked on him by a pretty girl in a very crowded club.

Actually, people were looking at the whole exchange with rather scandalized looks on their faces. The ones who knew he owned the club anyway. The ones who didn't just looked amused and were pointing him out to all their friends.

"So you're without a date?" He approuched the subject delicately, not wanting to take another glass of wine to the face. "I find that hard to believe." She was very pretty, though always it was hard to tell in a club, as a lot of the not-so-attractive women took advantage of.

She felt very stupid. Come to think of it, there were a lot of blond men around here...that was a really stupid move. She mentally hit her head, and instead she went to chewing her lip in embarrassment. She hoped he didn’t yell at her...people were already staring. Oh, she hated making a scene but she figured that at least nobody knew her here...they’d forget soon enough. Right? Oh dear. Well, if he asked for to get the shirt cleaned – at least that wouldn’t be a problem. She’d just use a spell.

But then he laughed – completely and fully in her face. She stepped back a bit in shock, and then went red a little and started giggling a little herself. It was kind of funny. But she was also giggling in relief. He hadn’t yelled at her, thank Merlin.

Why was everyone staring like that anyway? Mind your own business why don’t you...there’s better gossip flying around surely.

"You thought I was this bastard named Mr... what was it? Mr I-think-I'm-so-amazing? No harm done."

She blushed a bit again, but held her head up in defiance, “Well, you forgot the rest of it, but yes, basically...except you’re a touch better looking.” She smiled, a bit of her confidence coming back, thankfully, now that she didn’t feel as though he would slaughter her in front of everyone. “I can have that shirt cleaned for you in no time if you like,” might as well offer...it was her mistake after all.

"So you're without a date? I find that hard to believe."

This time she went red in anger, “Dates – who needs them. Useless. If I ever see him, he’s getting a whole wine bottle on him.” She ignored his flirtatious comment in the midst of anger, seething from the thought of the fool.

“I will not put myself forward for a date like that again until I find my way around this city properly.”

“I can have that shirt cleaned for you in no time if you like.”

He wandered if she was a witch, just by the comment. It seemed strange to tell him she could have it clean for him in a moment when it was so late at night and they were standing on the balcony of his club overlooking a very full dance floor. He smiled after a moment and shook his head, looking at her a bit more closely now, wondering if he'd met her before. She might be from a family his own was acquainted with.

"Oh don't worry about it at all. I'm magic when it comes to stains." He grinned. If she was a witch she might get the hint, if not then he just seemed like Susy-homemaker.

“Dates – who needs them. Useless. If I ever see him, he’s getting a whole wine bottle on him. I will not put myself forward for a date like that again until I find my way around this city properly.”

Ah, so she wasn't from the city. Maybe he didn't know her after all.

"Well that's just very rude, to leave you here without you knowing the surroundings at all." It explained why she didn't know who he was either. Most of the people who frequented Promise he'd met. "Would you like a drink?" He placed his hand on her back, high enough up that he wouldn't seem like he was too obviously hitting on her, leading her over towards the bar.

Placing her at the side of the counter, away from the general crush of people lining up for a drink, he scooted around behind the counter, manuvering around the petite brunette, Jessy, he hired for the upstairs bar. She continued to work as if he wasn't there, efficient like he wanted.

He grabbed her a regular tall glass, not knowing what she wanted and place two on the counter. "What would you care for?"

"Oh don't worry about it at all. I'm magic when it comes to stains."

Hmm, what did that mean? Surely she hadn't just stumbled across a wizard? Then again, it could just be something to reassure her that she needn't worry about having his shirt cleaned for him. His loss - it wouldn't be the same, but hey...

Merlin's shoes, it would be quite fantastic if he was a wizard though. Knowing someone magical in this city would make her feel at home again. At least for a short while. She wondered...

"As am I," Loretta answered carefully, "I wonder if we share the same magic tricks when it comes to cleaning things up." She smiled a little, hoping to catch a sign of recognition that he knew what she was.

She nodded once when he asked her for a drink, and let him lead her from the balcony to the near by bar. She thought she'd enjoy her time with him, even though she might not ever see him again. The thought was rather dismal, but was reality - that's the way it usually worked in restaurants and clubs...they never actually stuck to you.

Taking a seat, she watched how he just went right behind the bar, and the bartender didn't even flicker her eyes. Was he another bartender here then? Yay, drinks on the house! This was turning out to be good after all!

"What would you care for?"

A happy smile on her face, she answered, "Tia maria and coke, please."

"So...do you work here? You seem at home behind the counter," she asked whilst he prepared her drink for her.

Her comment in response made him wonder if she was indeed a witch, but he didn't want to risk anything. Better safe than sorry. For all he knew she could have been making a dirty joke.

He nodded at her choice of drink as he thought for a moment on what alcohol that entailed. Luckily Jessy had been listening in because she put all the ingredients out for him on the counter and he clued in on what exactly a Tia Maria is. It wasn't really his job to know all the different kinds of drinks... that's why he hired bartenders.

"So...do you work here? You seem at home behind the counter."

"I do, yes." Of sorts. He looked up from making her drink as he slid it towards her, "Handing alcohol to pretty women is a great benefit."
Oh god, where did that come from? He'd been hanging out with guys too much, and needed to be around his cousins and Lynn more. Since when did he flirt so much? They would tease him for sure. It wasn't even good.

He made himself a simple Rye and Coke, considering he was still technically on the job he couldn't really get drunk. Or he would feel guilty about it anyway.
To cover his embarrassment for the comment he took a sip and moved back to her side of the counter.

"Where did you move here from, if you're new to the city?"

She took a sip of her drink and the sweet coffee flavour warmed her up inside. Loretta looked up at the man as he came back to her side of the counter, and found that he had the most gorgeous eyes - blue as far as she could tell in this lighting. The lighting sometimes made his eyes look grey.

She had giggled a little at his comment about pretty women, "How do you know I'm not some old hag? This lighting does wonders for the skin you know." Laughing a little more, she took another sip. She held back the urge to just down the whole drink in a few gulps - it tasted so good.

"Where did you move here from, if you're new to the city?"

"Well, it's quite a story, but essentially I was born here, in a small part of London, but I spent most of my life in India. My father's fault, really." Her father had been a lecturer in history at Cambridge, but had then decided to move to India to further his education and career in East Asian history. He'd travelled throughout the majority of India, China and Nepal. Dragging Loretta beside him wasn't that hard either, for she had been very interested in what he did. It was magical in its own way. She was half-blood. Her mother had been a witch, but her father was all Muggle.

She either didn't want to give any details about her life, keeping it short and simple, or she just wanted to bait him in a conversation. Say something interesting like that and wait and see if he asked further. Some of his cousins did it all the time, though they mostly followed it up with a look that suggested there was a lot to the story. A small turn up at the corner of their mouth, a look through the eyelashes.
It didn't look like she pulled any of those faces, but then again it was hard to tell in this lighting. Well, he was curious anyway.

"India? Well that sounds far more interesting then London. I've never been personally, but I hear it's like another world entirely." He'd been interested to go. A lot of people he knew had visited India. He was a bit ashamed to say he hadn't been very many places in the world.

"I'm Cyprus by the way, I didn't get your name." He laughed, "I'm always terrible at that."

"India? Well that sounds far more interesting then London. I've never been personally, but I hear it's like another world entirely."

She smiled as she thought of where she'd been brought up - the smell of the polluted air, with a mix of frying pastries and curry, and the fragrance of incense in the morning. The sound of the people talking, yelling, bustling about, amidst the blaring horns of all the vehicles...the music, the stalls, the - everything.

"It is a different world. Certainly different to England - well, if you've ever been to an East London market, that might be a good replica," she laughed, not sure if this man had ever been there. East London was densely populated, and arguably the poorest region of London - but that wasn't to say there was nothing interesting there to see, or to shop for either.

She decided not to divulge in her entire life story - she hardly knew the guy.

"I'm Cyprus by the way, I didn't get your name. I'm always terrible at that."

"You never asked," she smiled again, "Loretta."

He smiled as if he understood, and nodded his head, when in actuality he hadn't ventured into that part of the city either. Even though his father had gone to Azkaban and his family had lost a lot of it's social standing since then, he was still a Kyst, and expected to behave as such. Truth be told, he'd never even thought of visiting East London, and he felt a small twinge of irritation with himself for not having done so. He felt ignorant and stupid suddenly, and angry with his family for being the way they were.

"Loretta. It's a pleasure to meet you." He smiled at her, trying to be charming though he felt like this girl suddenly turned his world a little sideways. He felt... antsy, anxious. Wanting to impress, well at the same time not wanting her to know who he was. He had originally been planning on leading her to the office where they could talk and have a place to sit comfortably (all of the sofas were taken in the lounge) but now... now he decided not to.

Instead he half led her over to the railing where they'd first so abruptly met. "So, what do you think of this place?" He looked over the dance floor as he spoke, and then up towards the high ceiling. It looked like one of the lights wasn't working properly. He made a mental note of it before turning to smile at her.
He wanted her honest opinion for some reason.

"Likewise, Cyprus," she wanted to say his name, run it across her tongue and feel the way it was made, the way it sounded when she said it. Cyprus. She'd never heard anyone called by that name before, but for some reason there was something very smooth about it. She liked it.

She finished her drink and loved the warm feeling inside her. Cyprus rose once she'd finished, and suggested going back to the balcony. She lowered her head slightly in acceptance, and got up to move with him.

"So, what do you think of this place?"

This place? To be honest, she never was much of a clubber - more of the quiet person to begin with. She liked the vibe in the lounge, and the bar, but the club made her feel nervous and sick to the stomach...it was probably also -

"That light needs a bit of work, it's giving me a bit of a headache, but maybe that's because I'm not drowned in the music and the atmosphere like the rest of them down there," she laughed, "it's nice - but I prefer the lounge and the bar - I love it in there...it's a lot more ambient, but the club? I'm not the person to ask," she blushed. "The music is good though - I'm assuming you're a regular...do they get any bands playing gigs here, or is it just djing?"

She's assuming he's a regular? He had to smile, but he barely thought as he answered outright, looking from her out onto the dance floor with a look of thoughtful consideration on his face as he took in the lighting and the dancers. The dj seemed to be getting really into things down below.

"We have live music every week at the very least... we're trying for more. We've gotten a few popular musicians in and the place had been packed so we're trying for more of those venues. I believe the regular nights sometimes draw more crowds, which is a bit sad really... less and less people have an appreciation for live music now-a-days it seems." He frowned slightly and turned his gaze back on her. "You might be right about the lighting, I'll look into it tomorrow." He chuckled. "Your input might have just saved a few other poor souls from a nasty headache."

Her eyes widened a touch as she realised who she was talking - the person who ran this place. Or a least, was more than just a good bartender. She had thought he was pulling her leg when he said he worked here - just a very good customer who knew was good friends with the other girl or something. He hadn't known what her drink was when she'd asked him - the look on his face gave it away...so she'd just figured...

"I thought you were having a laugh when you said you worked here..." Loretta grinned widely, "Well, I guess you were - it's not working in the bartending sense..."

She took a big interest in this new development, however. This was turning out to be quite a good night.

"I know what you mean about people lacking interest in live music...it's the general crowd that get drawn to clubs, and the general crowd tend not to have much of a personality sometimes," she laughed, showing she meant it light-heartedly, "Mind you, if you advertise in the right places, you could be getting yourself a bigger crowd when the bands come...you'd just have to venture into darker territory."

She acted as though she was about to mutter an evil place, as she drew nearer to his ear, "Camden." Pulling back, she laughed again, "I know, it's a rough area, but that's usually wear the passionate music lovers are."

"I thought you were having a laugh when you said you worked here... Well, I guess you were - it's not working in the bartending sense..."

"Oh sorry!" He laughed, not even realizing he'd given himself away. "Sometimes I like to pretend." He didn't like the way some people changed their attitude towards him either when he found out he owned the place. People seemed to become less honest.

"I know what you mean about people lacking interest in live music...it's the general crowd that get drawn to clubs, and the general crowd tend not to have much of a personality sometimes, Mind you, if you advertise in the right places, you could be getting yourself a bigger crowd when the bands come...you'd just have to venture into darker territory."

Yes... club people. It was odd that he owned a night club considering he'd never been one of those types anyway. He liked to listen to all music, but the thought of going to a club before he owned one seemed a bit silly to him.

Suddenly she was leaning into him and her breath tickled his ear. He thought he would hear a secret of some kind , and he leaned in, smiling slightly, wondering what she was divulge when she whispered "Camden" and he pulled back to laugh with her, his laugh coming out rather loudly so that the woman standing next to him turned in alarm.

"I know, it's a rough area, but that's usually wear the passionate music lovers are."

"I've been there, just never thought of advertising." He had been to that area, surprisingly enough. He went with Lynn one day on a fashion errand. It was like entering a new world, people walking around dressed strangely, wearing bright colours that matched some of the buildings and signs. Really, he'd found in fascinating, but a bit uncomfortable considering he'd been dressed up at the time and had pulled in his in car... which always got him a few looks in more spotty areas.
There was quite the wizard populace there he'd heard.

"That's a brilliant idea though, I take it to heart." He would get someone down there to advertise next week. It was a great idea. "It was an interesting area."

She liked the sound of his laugh reverberating around her - it made her feel warm inside. Strange, but she held the feeling inside her till the very end. She was so pleased to here that he was genuinely taking her opinions into account, and that he really liked her idea - well, she hoped so and that he wasn't just saying it to make her happy.

She remembered her visits to Camden - mostly to the market to pick up more bargains, and just watch the rather strange folk pass by...it really wasn't any different from the wizarding world in that sense - the dress sense was atrocious in her opinion, but whatever rocks your boat as they say.

"You could say interesting," Loretta laughed a little as she raised her eyebrows a touch, "So what other secrets are you hiding from me?"

"So what other secrets are you hiding from me?"

He grinned and turned his gaze away from her for a moment, having seen the little upward movement of her eyebrow. Did she expect more from him? He always worried he would come off as boring to someone. Although he was actually surprised with how bold he was being with this woman, yet it wasn't exactly bold at all.

He laughed and shook his head, standing tall for a moment, and giving her a mock salute. "Other secrets? Well, there is the secret agent thing, but if I tell you it wouldn't be much of a secret then would it?"
Lame. He took a hurried drink from his glass, looked away a moment before turning back to her.

She really was quite a beautiful girl. He watched her quietly for a moment, his gaze moving over her face before he leaned into the banister, one elbow up on it, the other holding his glass.

"I also happen to be a wizard." She could take it as a joke or not, he grinned all the same and kept his gaze locked on hers.
