/The walk back to the jeep wasn't a long one and from there West's apartment wasn't far either. She parked her jeep and grabbed her backpack from the back seat. She always had a spare set of clothes and work clothes on her as well as a few other might need items. With keys in her hands she headed up for West's apartment and let herself in. She hadn't really been here without him and both the smell and feel of the place was comforting, steady and so very much like him. Alex set the key on the kitchen counter and left her shoes by the door heading right for the bedroom and a shower.\
/Alex let herself be selfish with the hot water, this wasn't a high demand time of day and she had no doubt that this was probably the longest the shower had ever run while West owned it. he wasn't a real hang out in the shower forever type guy. Alex wasn't one either, most of the time. right now she needed it and she let the water wash away a lot. there were tears, silent sobs and even laughter as the realization hit her in waves and she struggled to balance the loss with the sense of what she'd gained having Mason for so many years. He wasn't dead, and he wasn't going to be kept from her forever. Azreal had said they'd be able to stay in touch so it wasn't the end, just another chapter. She had to remind herself that she was luck the both of them were even alive. Mason shouldn't have survived the accident and she... well really she shouldn't have survived saving him. \
/Alex finally turned off the water and got herself out of the shower, drying off and throwing on a tank top of Wests she could find and a pair of athletic booty shorts she happened to have stuffed in her backpack. She'd have another shower before work in the morning so no sense in wearing the work clothes now. She thought about curling up on his couch but her hair was still wet and so she balled it up in a towel and ended up laying out across West's bed where she fell asleep. She may have stolen a nap in Azreal's care but everything was finally catching up to her and now that she was properly warm and dry she passed right out and stayed that way until West made it home.\

He'd had to spend an extra hour at the bookstore before the old woman was satisfied enough with his work to let him leave. After that he'd just tidied up and secured the shop and went home, because any creative energy had been spent on that particularly taxing client. West didn't think much of the drive home, more just tried to /not think/ and relax, and was so tied up in that process that it took a minute of fishing for his keys to realize he didn't have them. A chill crept over him as his first thought was he lost them somewhere like an idiot, only to remember he'd given them to Alex and then truly felt like an idiot.
He tried the door in the off chance Alex was awake and had left it unlocked, which she had he noticed, but then realized she wasn't in the living area. Lifting an eyebrow, he rolled a shoulder, and locked the door behind him. He wasn't too worried about someone burgling the place, this floor of the apartment complex was pretty quiet, all things told. There were some days he was convinced he was the only one with a pulse on this floor, it was so quiet. He was curious where Alex was though.
Leaving his boots and soaked coat at their place by the door, he padded across the simple living area, noting the shower fan still on to dissipate the steam from the shower and peeked around the door frame to his room. He couldn't help the grin from stealing across his face as he admired the sleeping beauty passed smooth out on top of the covers. She hadn't even gotten under them, poor thing was beat.
Honestly he was pleasantly surprised she was even still there, rather than back burying herself in work. It was a good surprise, she needed the time off to herself when she could get it. Deciding against waking her, he decided to make good on his threat of making her dinner. He could at least feed her before she woke up and ran off. Though it was hard to pull his eyes from the beautiful mess residing in his room, he did quietly return to the kitchen and start dinner.
He'd managed to prep and cook nearly everything in relative quiet, and not wake Alex, which was a testament to how much he was used to being alone and in the quiet, he didn't start any music or background noise, he just went to work. Which, in all honesty, fit his personality. The patio for his apartment was small, but, being third floor, made for a decent view of the town, and was wide enough to fit a small grill which was really all he used it for anyway.
The only problem with this plan was he'd left the door open since it was nice enough temperature wise outside and the rain had let up, which meant the wind blew all the smoke from the grill into the kitchen...into the range of the only smoke detector in the one bedroom apartment. And while West was guilty of not seasonally checking the batteries on it, it was most definitely in working order- and started to sing the song of its people.
To his credit, he didn't panic (it wasn't in his nature) but he did jerk his head to the sound, and gave the smoke detector a bemused, betrayed look, before cursing under his breath and quickly removing his shirt to fan clean air to the machine to shut it up, shutting the door to the patio until it silenced. Glaring up at it, he held his shirt in his hand, and assessed the damage.. he had half a mind to remove the battery for the evening, but he'd wait to do that until Alex decided if she was going to kill him for the wake up he'd inadvertently given her.
Hopefully the set dining table, and mostly prepared meal would distract her rage enough to let him slide with mild abrasions...

/When West first arrived home he quite likely could have gotten away with crashing about the place and setting off the smoke detector without waking her. By the time he had dinner prepared though, she'd caught up on enough sleep that it most definitely woke her up. She lifted her head to peak out into the kitchen from her place on his bed and just smiled at West, shirtless, trying to shut the damn thing up. They had to do that more than once (thought she usually used a dish towel) at the manor when Aiden or a few of the others decided to try their hand at cooking. Or when certain two footed minions decided to get into something and distract the chef. Alex stretched and rolled over, content that if she hadn't come storming in to get her that there wasn't actually a fire.\
/No sense trying to sleep anymore, those alarms were meant to wake you and fully. Alex pulled the towel from her now mostly dry hair and hung it up in the bathroom before heading out barefoot into the living space. She saw the table set and the kitchen showing signs of food prep and smiled at West, crossing the room to slip her arms around him just as he convinced the alarm to shut up. she kissed her shoulder and set her cheek against his back.\
I know I'm short on sleep but you didn't have to resort to that alarm to get me up for dinner.
/She smiled as she said it, her voice clearly amused. She was quickly distracted by the smell of food though and let go of him to head toward the small patio and the grill on it.\
That smells amazing.

Well...nothing was thrown at him. So, that was a good sign. The warm arms around his bare torso loosened his tense muscles and he let a smile come across his face as she spoke into his back.
Trust me, I'd much kinder ways of waking you planned before that happened. Glad you got some rest, darlin....I hope it tastes as good as it smells.
He said over his shoulder as she went to the patio. Draping his shirt over the nearest chair at the table he joined her on the patio, eyeing the steaks on the grill and giving a tentative sniff he figured they were just about right. Medium rare for him, medium for her...just about there. Sometimes his heritage had its benefits.
Grab me that plate from the counter?
Using the tongs he put their meal on the platter she brought back and ushered her inside. With the quiet ease of someone used to working methodically he plated their meals and set them out on the table. Pulling her seat out, he pushed her in to the table like a proper gentleman and poured them each a glass of wine before taking his seat. Looking across at her, damp hair a mess in one of his undershirts and a pair of athletic shorts, and the picture of beauty to him. And there he was...shirtless, in jeans...the two of them a sight in comparison the the rather "fancy" meal he'd prepared. A small laugh escaped him, as he took it in.
Well, at least I got it halfway right, the food and wine should pair nicely- maybe next time, I'll work on the music and the dress code. Gotta start somewhere though. Dig in, you deserve it after today.
A lot could happen in a day, more than most people realized. The best you could do sometimes was just grab the moments as they came and enjoyed them for everything they held....while they were there.
