It had been entirely too long since Riley had been taken, but she knew why they'd had to wait. Didn't mean she'd liked it. But at least now it was showtime in a sense. And she was struggling valiantly with a flat iron in Alexandra's bathroom, instead of arming up to go fetch Riley with Kae and Kerik. She'd have been pissed if it hadn't been partially her idea. She was down to the last few pieces of hair to straighten and still managed to burn the side of one knuckle slightly. Setting the iron down she let out a semi-growl of frustration and stormed out of the bathroom.

Screw it, close enough, Lex, can you get my back?

She'd stepped into the dress that the Russian had just helped her pick out a few hours before and zipped it as best she could behind her back after finishing flat-ironing her hair. Leaving the bathroom with her knuckle in her mouth she walked out to the living room area to where Lex had been when she’d gone in to tackle her hair. Bryn had never really had the opportunity of learning the finer arts of “being a lady” but luckily Lex was able to make her passable for the job she had. And thankfully the Russian didn’t have a heavy hand at makeup or anything and Bryn could trust her to not put her in a dress that made her look like a 2-bit whore.

The maroon dress was fitted enough to make her almost self-conscious, but it was more the fact that there wasn’t an inch to spare to hide weaponry. It was the deal, but it was still…unsettling. Spotting Lex, she paused and pulled her now straightened, thick chestnut mane over her shoulder so Lex could finish zipping the dress for her. That done she smoothed the dress over her thighs and then did a slow circle for inspection.

Well? Think I’ll get us past the bouncer?

It was an interesting turn of events when she had Bryn giving her a call and asking her for help in getting ready to go out for the 'run', one that only seemed to involve a cocktail dress and a good haircut. Alex wasn't completely sure how she felt about the two of them going into a hostile vampire nest with the only weapon between them being the fact that they where both female. If it did all hit the fan she wouldn't really need a weapon to defend herself but it still felt a little odd that Bryn wasn't going to have her gun.

The noises coming out of her little apartments bathroom had been of the sort that hadn't ever been heard in this setting before and she really wasn't overly shocked when Bryn came out in full force with a particularly annoyed expression.

You need to get that man of yours to take you out more so you can practice not burning yourself.

Alex wasn't really an 'expert' in this whole thing either but she had at least some experience with it and that didn't involve making anyone look like a clown so that put her ahead a little.

You kind of clean up nice.

She gave her friend a grin and then picked up the black dress that had been hanging on the back a chair before she had Bryn turn around in it so she could make sure they didn't mess anything up and as it turns out, checking was a good idea.

Hair needs one more touch up but ill get it when i'm done.

With her turn in the bathroom she shut the door behind her and started the process of getting changed.

Things had been coasting since their little visit to the park and that was just fine with Jesse. They had a lot going on and the last moon had ended without anyone torn up so that was a plus. She'd caught wind of Lex's plans for the evening and had measured out what kind of welcome she might get if she dropped by. Lex had left the door unlocked as promised so Jesse let herself in quietly.

She set her keys on the counter as she rounded the corner to find Bryn in the living room. Jesse let out a low, slow whistle of appreciation. She crossed her arms across her chest, in a buttoned up plaid shirt and a pair of jeans. As Bryn looked up Jesse gave a waggle of her eyebrows.

Damn.

Jesse let herself give Bryn a good once over, and then a second look over. She had to assume that Alex was getting ready elsewhere.

Magic has good taste.

Bryn gave a low chuckle to the idea of Jacen taking her out some place nice ore often.

Mm, he would if he could, but, apparently, I'm the reason we can't have nice things.

She gave a dry "hah" to her cleaning up ok and after the visual inspection Bryn nodded to having Lex fix up what she'd missed with her hair glad to not deal with the hateful straightener again. She was navigating the modest heels her and Lex had chosen when the door opened, sending a slight shock through her heart and her hand immediately twitched for her left shoulder where her gun normally was. As soon as she recognized Jesse (and had realized the door had been left unlocked intentionally, Lex wasn't one to do so in laziness) her head tilted slightly, giving Jesse and amused look to the whistle.

Not flushing at the once (and twice) over, what caught her attention was the nickname. Bryn's thin brows rose some and she crossed her arms over her chest with a barely contained grin of mischief.

I'll say- you should see her collection of exotic wands.

And no, she wasn't going to clarify. Magic. Oh, damn, did Lex owe her a drink.

In the back of her head Alex knew that Jesse was likely going to be stopping by before they left tonight but at the moment her head was focused on the task at hand and what the night was going to entail so when she had gone into that bathroom she really wasn't thinking ahead and wondering 'How much time do I have?' Behind the door she had already slipped on the black dress that was similar enough to Bryn's but had it's own little differences in the details, her hair was by far easier to manage as she had decided early in the morning that she was just going to let it do it's wavy thing. The one thing in common though was that she wasn't quite able to reach back far enough to do up the back of the dress but it wasn't an immediate problem.

Vaguely she had heard the door to her apartment open but it was probably a good thing she hadn't been out there as Bryn twitched at the idea of the door opening unexpectedly because her subconscious reaction would have had a different focus then Jesse.

Lex almost reached for the handle of the bathroom door when she stopped and picked up the half empty bottle of vodka that she had left in there specifically for Bryn, opening the top of it she took a swig from the bottle and opened the door and walked around the corner just in time to not only hear Jesse use a certain nickname and then Bryn's response. Lex hadn't really ever had much trouble with alcohol so when she choked on what she had in her mouth it was pretty obvious that she really hadn't expected anything of what she had just heard. In the moment she quickly took another drink from the bottle to buy a few more seconds before she had to somehow find a way to respond to that.

So that's enough from you.

As she spoke Alex quickly handed over the bottle to Bryn with a very quick look that had a similar feeling to the words 'I'm going to kill you' before she was able to look at Jesse.

She's been hit on the head too many times.

Jesse looked up sharply at Lex’s choking and gave her a wonderfully inviting grin. This was most enjoyable. Seeing that Alex recovered, Jesse watched the two women. Still grinning, Jesse shrugged her shoulders at Lex’s remark, eyes landing on Bryn once again.

Maybe I can balance it out if I hit /on/ her.

Jesse pushed her hip off the couch she’d leaned on and crossed over to Lex, signalling for her to turn around.

You’re still open.

Once Lex turned, Jesse worked on the dress, raising a single brow at the fact that she hadn’t even attempted to zip it up, meaning she couldn’t really help but take a peek at what was under the dress too. She got her zipped up and dropped a soft kiss on the back of her shoulder.

Bryn held her hands up in feigned defeat, giving Lex a shit eating grin in return, fully accepting the death stare the Russian was giving her. Plucking the vodka bottle from the redhead, and pulled as delicate a swig from the bottle as she could while she sauntered into the kitchen to give the two of them a moment to themselves, though to Jesse's response to Lex claiming traumatic brain injury for her, she tossed a retort over her shoulder, waving the bottle slightly back and forth to match her hips movement with her stride.

Can't hurt to tryyyy..

Grinning to herself, quite proud of herself for calling that a mile out and for getting Lex to choke on her vodka, Bryn rested against the counter in the kitchen and bided her minute. Taking another victory sip of vodka, shaking her head sharply against the taste as it honestly wasn't a preferred alcohol, she returned to the room in time enough to catch the small bit of affection but didn't call much attention to it.

Though, in all honesty, you've got better luck hitting on her, obviously. It's a shame you can't take advantage of us getting her all dolled up. Maybe next time you can take my place, take her somewhere nice instead of on a job.

It was forever a challenge to be able to catch Lex off guard when it came to out 'trapping' her and catching Lex in just the right spot so that she didn't exactly know what to say or do but apparently Bryn had managed to succeed in this instance and of course it had to be with Jesse in the room.

I tried that once, Bryn's just too used to me and it doesn't have the same affect.

There was no reasonable way now that Bryn wouldn't have put the pieces of the puzzle together in record land speed so there was no point in even considering the idea that she wasn't going to get questioned the moment they left this apartment. Jesse of course was going to make that a whole lot easier when she noticed before Alex did that the back of her dress still wasn't done up all the way and prompted her to turn around. The little part of her brain that was still a little naive about the situation still assumed that Jesse was just going to zip up the back but what she got instead was goosebumps racing up and down her spine as the musician placed a soft kiss on the back of her shoulder.

Bryn's teasing from the other room didn't go unnoticed and neither did the exact timing that she decided to saunter on back, she knew the woman enough to know it was all deliberate enough so that Lex would just have to accept the fact that she couldn't 'complain' about that touch or do anything about it.

If I wasn't so busy saving your ass, maybe we'd have the time.

While she did love to give her friend a hard time, she wasn't out to make her so uncomfortable she couldn't continue to keep her guard lowered around her. Besides, her and Jesse were cute, she wasn't about to discourage that. Snorting at Lex's comment, she took the Russian by the hand and drug her to the bathroom to finish whatever she'd managed to mess up or forget with her hair.

I have enough eyes on my ass, I'm sure we can spare yours now and then so they can eye another one.

She didn't look at Jesse, though she was sure this level of crass humor wasn't what the musician was really expecting from her, but, well, there it was. She'd get used to it or constantly be taken aback, either worked with Bryn. Once she was deemed "presentable", she left Lex in the bathroom and collected the small clutch she and Lex had thrown both their identifications and cell phones in. Giving Jesse a quick wink and a grin, she turned for the front door, giving a goodbye of sorts over her shoulder as she left.

Pyat' minut, Krasnyy. Poveselis'!

What Russian she knew could fill one page of a small notebook, but what she knew was practical. Five minutes was more than enough time for what fun the Russian could get into while Bryn went downstairs and hailed a cab for them. They weren't going to be able to bike there, their dresses were short enough to ensure that. And Bryn wasn't going to walk more than a block in these heels no matter how modest they were.

Jesse felt the tightening of Lex’s muscles under her. Securing the top of Lex’s dress, Jesse was careful not to let her hands trail over Alexandra when Bryn stole her away. When the pair stole away to the bathroom, Jesse sank herself down onto Lex’s couch and listened to the banter between the pair with a smile.

Lex had left an open invitation for Jesse to come by before the women headed out. Jesse had a loose idea of what the pair were doing, she now knew that Riley had been missing and wasn’t safe. The darker side of pack life had escaped her life so far but here she was, very much attached to people who were very much involved.

Jesse slipped her shoes off and tucked her feet under herself. It wasn’t that she wanted to ignore the dangers and life of the pack, but she hadn’t been very sure she was much more than a squatter, passing by… She’d been alone through this change and the years after she’d been turned. The aspects of pack life were not being brought out very front and center. She understood though, at least in principal that life wasn’t safe for them. Everything had a cost.

Looking up at Bryn as she walked through to the door and waved goodbye, Jesse waved her off as well. Her eyes narrowed in a puzzled look at Bryn’s words and she turned to look for Lex.

Alexandra? Everything okay?

She uncurled her legs from beneath her and began to push herself up from the couch to check on Lex.

There was still some wiggle room there before Bryn's teasing would have gone a little too far for Lex but she wasn't so sure on where Jesse's limits ended and at this point she didn't want to test any theories to try and find out where those limits where. Following Bryn's prompt (or was it more like being pulled?) into the bathroom she picked up the flat iron and fixed the weird little strand on the back of Bryn's head and once that was sorted out she came back out into the living room and found Jesse just starting to get up from the chair. It wasn't overly hard to figure out just why Jesse had that specific look to her expression so to save her the concern she gave her the translation.

She just said I had five minutes, told me to have fun.

Alex wasn't sure what she would be able to say or what she shouldn't say when it came to what the pack's plans where but she wasn't going to tell Jesse nothing and let her worry about it all night. Lex wrapped her arms around the other woman and held her close in an extended hug as she gave her as much as she thought she could.

Their going for Riley and Bryn needs me as backup in case she gets herself into trouble, I wont be getting involved unless I have to. I'll be safe.

Lex rubbed her back a little and then pulled away just enough to be able to give her a kiss.

You can wait here if you want, my apartment is safe.

Jesse slid her hands around Lex’s hips when she was wrapped in a hug. She was careful not to smudge Lex’s makeup by brushing too much against her face but she did take in a calming breath of Lex’s now familiar scent. Her shoulders loosened some at the explanation. She hadn’t been overly concerned about what Bryn said but knowing was nice.

As Lex pulled back from the hug, Jesse lifted her head from Lex’s shoulder to respond but that was sidelined by a kiss. Sliding her hands from Lex’s hips to take the russian’s hands in hers, Jesse gave them a squeeze.

Thank you for telling me straight.

It wasn’t hard for her to tell that something was going down in the pack, everyone had been tight lipped and edgy. Knowing they were going for Riley made her worry but she completely agreed that they couldn’t leave one of their own in trouble. What trouble he was in exactly she’d deliberately chosen to keep herself ignorant of the details.

You two be safe.

She told Lex she was on board for the crazy, she wasn’t about to go back on that. The idea of staying was interesting and Jesse was a little mixed on it. Sure, she’d been here before but not without Lex. Still, knowing when she got back… Jesse took one look at Lex and nodded, guessing that the invite had been for a reason.

I’ll be here when you get back.

The idea of staying home now may have crossed her mind but as much as she would have much preferred to stay and watch movies here with Jesse, she couldn't leave Bryn without someone to watch her back. It had occurred to her more then a few times that she was getting pulled more and more into the dynamics of the pack without actually being in it but she seemed to be ok with the idea even though her original plan had been to just avoid trouble. Perhaps the growing investment in specific members within the pack may have been influencing her now. With her hands in Jesse's she rubbed the backs of them with her fingers and then gave her a smile.

I don't know if we'll be late or not but ill get back as soon as I can.

Beyond the notion of keeping Jesse safe in her apartment while she was watching Bryn's back, she had no plans but she would have no problem giving her a ride home or letting her crash for the night because either way it meant she wouldn't have to worry.

Letting go of her hands she finally made herself head out of the apartment but not before making sure the front door was secure and locked to keep out trouble.
