When she'd woken up this morning (after dealing with the highly unpleasant surprise of running into her recent arresting officer naked, in the hall) her only plan for the day was to ask Keadek to run her into town to see how Wren and Jacen had fared the night, and spend a little time with the two of them before she and Wren had to return to the manor. It was going to be an easy day. She should have known better.
After her and Kerik's talk with Riley, she'd made to excuse herself from the infirmary to get ready to run some errands that had just been tossed up in the forefront of things when Kerik had held her up momentarily. He apparently had something he and Kead wanted to discuss with her, Kyle and Liam, which drew a slightly raised brow from her in curiosity, though she didn't voice any questions right then, there'd be time to do so later. With everyone dragging a bit after the full moon, and with her having to run into town, he'd told her to just come by once she'd gotten in later, it shouldn't take long anyway.
The drive in gave her a chance to work over things with Keadek, and seeing as her alpha had the plan to take Riley out of town for his date with the surgeon tomorrow afternoon, it would be better to see if Lena wouldn't go along with them instead of moving her to the safe house. There was a good chance seeing her safe would make the trip a lot easier (mentally and emotionally) on Riley, and they'd need all the help there they could for a while. Dividing and conquering, as it were, Keadek let Bryn out at the Pony, as usual, with a word to give her a heads up when she needed Wren and her to be picked up, and she'd go square away a ride for Lena to the airport tomorrow.
It wasn't a long walk from the bar to the apartment, but it had been a long morning for how relatively short a period of time she'd been awake, and she felt it by the time she got to Jacen's door. Rubbing her face with one hand, the fished the key out of her jeans pocket and unlocked the door without knocking. With any luck, Wren was sleeping off the night still, and she wasn't about to be the one to wake her if she didn't have to. Shutting the door as quietly as she could, she slipped the lock shut and looked back to locate Jacen, on the couch, and alone. Apparently the little wrench had eventually fallen asleep, good.
How was she?
Her voice was low but not quite a whisper as she gently dropped her bag on the floor by the door before adding her shoes to the pile.

While Jacen didn't need sleep like others did, he couldn't run on nothing. While having his daughter to himself for the night had been a great pleasure, he was just as wiped out as she was once she finally fell asleep. Just because she wasn't alone on the moon didn't make it any easier on her. Neither one of them slept during the night and so when she had finally passed out sprawled across his bed, he'd taken some time to snuggle with her before getting some things done and finally sinking into the couch.
The sound of the lock turning caught his attention but he recognised the sound of her footsteps coming down the hall and knew just who it was. Peeking open one emerald eye and cracking a smile as she let herself in, he shifted enough to make room for her on the couch. It sounded as though she'd had a rough night as well.
Distractible at first, but she straight up refused to sleep until morning. How was your night?
He was tired, but he wouldn't trade the time with Wren for anything. It didn't matter if she fussed or cried the entire time he had her, at least he had time with her. That was more than he'd been able to have before.

Once she was barefoot, she walked behind the couch, listening to Jacen, to peek around the doorframe into the bedroom, a small smile crossing her face at their exhausted daughter starfished atop the blankets. While having someone with her helped, and no doubt being with Jacen even more so, it didn't diminish the general discomfort of the full moon. It was one of the things Bryn wished she could apologize for enough, though she couldn't.
Turning from the doorframe, she waited until she was back to the couch before speaking, knowing from experience that while Wren looked sacked out, once she heard Bryn was there, she would be up and demanding to be held. Which normally wasn't a problem. Right now, though, both of them needed some rest. And Bryn had to relay information she wasn't thrilled with to Jacen, and she couldn't imagine he'd be keen either.
Well, neither Alex nor myself had to find the medics this morning so, that was nice. Though, apparently Officer Finlay is a guest at the manor. That wasn't so much a nice surprise for both of us to discover.
Omitting the details of how she discovered that, not to keep it from him intentionally but more trying to limit how many things she brought up that would just irritate her, she gave a thready sigh, shaking her head. Normally she would have had a bit more rest before coming over, but, today just didn't go as planned. Crawling onto the couch where he'd made room, she settled herself against him forehead pressed against his chest and nearly gave into fatigue right then, but for the nagging concern in the back of her head. Knowing she just had to start with something, even if it didn't make sense, or she'd just nod off, she spoke as she slid her arm around his waist.
She knows, Jacen. Either than or she has a strong suspicion.
Her voice was tired, and not just from lack of sleep. She knew that she couldn't take everything Riley said as truth, but, she also knew first hand, the best psychological damages were when a small bit of truth was used as a seed for the rest. And that's what was gnawing away at her. And ignoring it would just make it worse.

Jacen slipped his arm around Bryn when she finally settle on the couch with him. He took a moment to turn over what she'd said. He knew just who Bryn was talking about and even what. What was still, thankfully, asleep in the bedroom. Jacen gave a soft kiss to the top of Bryn's head.
She might have suspicions, but I'm not convinced that she knows. She does know that I loved you and she'll know me well enough to know that I wouldn't stop loving you. That would be enough for her to plant a bug. She will take any line she can get and twist until she gets a reaction. The harsh truth about her methods is that she goes on usually, very little. Once she finds something that strikes a nerve, she uses it.
He couldn't be certain, but if they knew that Wren was his... Jacen was fairly certain that they'd have used that card before now. Still, it wasn't worth not being careful.
It did leave Jacen turning things over more and more. That lead to a protective tightening of the arm looped over Bryn's shoulder.

She would have to defer to Jacen's knowledge of her machinations, her only history there was from run ins on patrol, which didn't quite correlate here. She'd initially came to the same conclusion, more or less, but it was too close to Wren for her not to make the connection, and worry. Nonetheless, his voice calmed her down some as he spoke through the reasoning, reassuring her that if anything, she had suspicions about their involvement, not Wren's paternity. Though it wasn't intended that way, the remark that Rayven would know him well enough that he'd never had stopped loving Bryn stung. It was something she should have known too, and kept her from being so misled for so long, but that was on her. And Kerik- she wasn't about to carry that albatross alone.
His arm tightening around her shoulders pulled her thoughts from the downward internal spiral they were on the edge of, allowing herself to be drawn closer with a small sigh. Taking a minute to pull her thoughts together again, she shook her head gently against his chest before quietly saying,
I don't think there's a nerve of his they didn't strike.
A good deal of the aggression Riley had exhibited had come down some as the drugs in his system wore off, but there were much deeper wounds than flesh ones when it came to his stay, and it showed. At least, to someone who knew what to look for. With her arm more around him now, she ran her hand across his shoulders lightly, then tightened her own arm slightly.
Just keep an ear out for her, ok?
It was bad enough they'd gotten a packmate, one of her family, and that she had a constant concern of Wren being targeted, she didn't want him in the crosshairs too. Not that she could do much about that.
