Tell-Tale Hotel

Mike King
CZW Ultimate Role Player
(Mike King is sitting in his hotel room on the so-called “death chair”, chair with an already reclined back and he is watching the tv. There is a knock on the door and he gets up to greet whomever it is.)

Maid: House keeping…

(Mike hears the call and he walks towards the doo. He opens it up and responds to the maid.)

Mike King: Not right now, I’m getting ready to sleep. Can you come back at like 7?

Maid: Sure.

(The maid leaves and King closes the door. He goes to walk back to the “death chair.” He sits down for several seconds watching the tv which is showing a movie version of Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Tell-Tale Heart”. The cops are questioning the man in his house as there is another knock at the door. King looks annoyed as it was getting to a favorite scene of his.)

King: Damn it! I hope it’s not another maid cause I’ll kill her cause she is interrupting the interrogation scene…

(King begrudgely walks towards the door, expecting to knock some maid into next week. He opens the door. Without looking at who it is he starts ranting on the maid service he does not want at the time.)

King: Listen, I don’t want room service right now. Just leave me alone and let me get some sleep…

(King looks and sees that it is not a maid staring back at him but instead the ominous looking Ryan Lewis, CZW backstage interviewer.)

Ryan Lewis: OK Mike, I know you need sleep and you were glasses for distance but I am just standing 2 feet in front of you…

(King blushes as Ryan embarrassed him right there.)

King: Ryan, I’m sorry man. You know that I’ve been trying to relax and find my inner-peace after beating Corey Jackson to retain my title and regain my piece of mind, prepare to take on Damien Natas, the so-called “Soul Reaper of Combat Zone Wrestling” and on top of that I have another disrespectful little ignorant , annoying, snot-nosed, zim-bastard, prick named Karamatic Syptom claim upon entry into CZW that he, not anyone that has been here several weeks or months is the next worthy challenger to me and my CZW Hardcore title. I mean what is that guy on crack, coke, weed or what?

Lewis: I couldn’t tell you what he is on but you are damn right that I agree. He doesn’t deserve the shot until he proves himself. But I am here not for that but your thoughts on Damien, your opponent.

(King tries to calm down for a moment to concentrate on his next opponent.)

King: Damien has potential like anyone who walks into a Combat Zone Wrestling ring. Desire had it but he didn’t use it here like he did back in his WIF days, Brian Blaze has shown it by beating a CZW original in a common former tag team partner of our’s Tim Timmions and Damien has it too. What is he currently like 1-1, 1-2, 2-1 something like that?

Lewis: He’s 1-1, he lost in the three-way at Extreme Intervention and he beat Dwayne Campbell last week on Assault.

King: Well he is .500 then. Back when I had my first two in CZW, I was 1.000. But the point is this, Damien, I don’t fear you. You want to try to scare me by having a flashback in which you won the HWA title, got place in a casket, taken outside and driven into by a Mack truck. Then as you are silent in a weak, fragile fringe between life and death you have a convocation with the devil or whatever the so-called voice was to become his bounty hunter, his “Soul Reaper” named Damien Natas. You think I really give a crap about your so-called past, let alone make it scare me into defeat before I step in the same ring as you?

Natas, it’s cute and all that your name is to Satan as redrum is to murder but it doesn’t change what I think of you. If anything my mind isn’t in the match not because of fear but because of being pre-occupied with Karamatic Syptom. Boy is that a guy who I wish would try autoerotic asphyxia and accidentally kill himself but the fact is Natas all you are to me is not the soul reaper, you are just a messenger, a messenger to KS of his and anyone who steps in the ring with me, their impending future.

(King’s fists are shaking in anger.)

King: Cause KS awoke the son of a bitch who long ago I decided to hold back. The son of a bitch I locked away in my mind to keep away from taking control of me, and all he has done is piss me off so much my mind has lost the mental control of the locked door in my mind holding this animal back. And now, there’s no holding him back and Natas, you are the first victim of the animal.

(King starts to snarl and Ryan looks worried.)

Lewis: I have nothing more to ask you, can I go?
(King continues to snarl and nods his head up and down. Ryan bolts away from the hotel room . King slowly backs away and turns his head back towards the tv set playing the movie. It is at the point when the heart beats are gaining in volume and eating away at the man being questioned by the police in his house. King then dozes off in his death chair.

A few moments later King awakes in a dazed stupor to the sound of a door knocking. He gets to the door and it is a pair of police. One looks like the maid from earlier and the other looks like Ryan Lewis.)

Man: I am Officer Jake Ryan and this is Officer Melina Ramirez. Are you Michael King.

(King still half dazed answers.)

King: Yes, what seems to be the problem Officer Ryan, Officer Ramirez?

Melina Ramirez: Maria Gonzalez, she is a maid in this hotel. We cannot find her and the last people saw of her, she came to this room. Also we understand that you snapped at her when she came for house keeping earlier on about three hours ago.

King: I know we had an argument but I didn’t do anything to her. All I her told her was that I wanted to catch some sleep and find my inner-peace.

(King hears a faint heart-beat from behind him. Because it is so faint he does not worry about it.)

Jake Ryan: What about another man who came to visit you about a minute later, a mister Ryan Lewis?

King: Oh him, he was a friend. He asked if he and I could go for a beer later on.

Ramirez: Is that so?

(King is about to answer but the heart-beat thumps again.)

King: Yes, yes it is so. We were going to go to the saloon on the lobby in about an hour from now. I thank you for waking me up. I should be getting showered and dressed…

(Ryan and Ramirez talk amongst each other. King continues to hear the heart-beat behind him and looks out to see what it is and where it is coming from.)

Ryan: Yeah, you know I doubt you heard but he too is missing much like Miranda.

(King looks shocked as the heart-beat subsides for a few seconds.)

King: Really that sucks. I’m sure he’s around here somewhere you know?

Ramirez: Yes and the connection between those two is you.

(King hears the heart-beats kick up once again. They are louder and more pronounce to King now.)

King: Yes but I can assure you I had nothing to do with it. Their disappearances are unrelated to me. I can assure you that I was asleep on the chair over there. I was in the middle of watching a movie here and I fell asleep.

(King hears a second heart-beat and he tries to cover his ears from hearing them. The cops look befuddled by King’s strange actions.)

Ryan: Are you OK Mike?

(King tries to maintain his composure.)

King: Yes, yes I am fine.

(King realizes that the cops know that is a boldface lie as they stare at him trying to make a hole in him. As the heart-beats continue to be loud.)

King: Alright, alright I am not fine, I’ll admit it. I just need alone time you know. It’s a hard pill to swallow knowing that I am in a possible murderer.

(The cops realizes something is up with the word “murderer.”)

Ramirez: What do you “murderer”, we never mentioned about murder, all we said was they were missing. Are you hiding sometime from us?

(The heart-beats are louder than they have been and King is finding it hard to swallow. King is starting to crack.)

King: No, no, nothing at all.

(The heart-beats get even louder as he is lying once again. The police continue to stare at King and he feels they know the truth. The truth that he killed Ryan Wilson and the maid in a fit of rage brought on by KS bitching him out.)

King: I admit it, I did it. I killed them. I snaped, I went off the deep end…

(The officers look at each other and then take King into custody. King then wakes up in a violent fit on the chair. King looks and sees that everything is fine.)

King: Damn, that was too real. I seriously need to get a grip a on myself.

(King turns the tv off and goes to the phone as the scene ends.)
