The Jackal
World Champion
The early evening streets of Springfield, Illinois are teaming with all sorts of different people, going about there duties. Some are heading home from work, the stress clearly defined upon there faces. A shopkeeper is closing his clothes store; he is dressed smartly and is smiling as another shift comes to an end. There are men and women dressed in suits and talking on there mobile phones and yet, just feet away, there is a young man sitting in the gutter, trying to keep warm under a blanket – his lips chapped, his eyes bloodshot and tired. The differences in wealth and lifestyle could not be more clearly defined. A brand new black limousine pulls up outside the Springfield Hilton Hotel. The driver, who is dressed in uniform, climbs out of the car and proceeds to open the rear door. He holds the door open as a middle aged man wearing an Armani suit steps out. He is smiling broadly and he looks up at the hotel and at the surrounding buildings. As he stands admiring the views above a small child accidentally bumps into him and falls to the floor. He is a small, black boy wearing shorts and a shirt that are creased and dirty. His shoes are ragged and his toes point out the front of a hole in his left shoe. As his bottom hits the floor he looks up at the man with tears in his eyes, holding his arm that looks to be grazed from hitting the concrete. The man looks down with a look of anger and annoyance on his face, appearing to scold the boy before wiping down his pants and proceeding into the hotel. The boy remains seated on the floor, his bottom lip trembling as he is ignored by people passing by.

Across the road, watching all this is Karl ‘The Jackal’ Jackson. He is dressed casually, a white Versace T-shirt and a pair of smart black pants. He sees clearly the differences between the rich people going into there posh hotel rooms and the man lying under a blanket in a dark alley or the young boy dressed in rags, unnoticed by those around him. Seeing the flocks of people walking straight past this young boy, he feels upset and ashamed to be put in the same class as these people. The Jackal himself is wealthy, and has never been without money throughout his life. But he now feels angered at the ignorance that people, just like him, have towards those that are less fortunate. Crossing the road towards the boy, he is interrupted by a commotion going on a few yards away. A middle aged woman is screaming and pointing towards a man that is running directly towards the Jackal. He is dressed in a baseball Jersey and has baggy pants on. As he gets closer the Jackal sees that this man has the ladies purse and so he moves himself into the path of the thief.

The man stops and looks at the Jackal. At first he has a look of anger in his face, but when he sees the eyes of the Jackal staring back at him he appears to back down. His eyes now show that it is clear that this thief is not brave, he looks afraid and after a moment of staring at the Jackal he looks to the floor. As the woman runs closer he drops her purse and runs off in the opposite direction. The Jackal picks up the purse and passes it to the woman who has now just reached where her purse had been left by the thief.

The woman smiles and takes out of her purse a ten dollar note.

-=- Woman -=-
Thank you for that. Here, take this…

The Jackal smiles but shakes his head.

-=- The Jackal ||| Karl Jackson -=-
I don’t need it, but that kid over there could maybe do with a break.

The Jackal points to the young boy who has now just got back to his feet, and is standing outside a department store, appearing to beg for money as he approaches passers by with his little hands outstretched. The woman frowns but sees that the Jackal is serious. She then smiles and goes over to the little boy, giving him the ten dollar note. He smiles broadly and appears to thank the lady – wiping the tears away from his cheeks. She notices his grazed arm and kneels down to talk to him. Seeing the woman talking to the boy makes the Jackal smile, he is seemingly happy that this young kid has now finally been noticed and spoken too… even if it is just the once.

The Jackal now turns around and begins to walk off; he is smiling as if proud of his achievements. But behind the smile, his eyes show that he is thinking hard about something. Maybe about his title shot at Horrorcore, maybe about his estranged wife Cindy or maybe about his opponent this week on Assault… Jeran Hudson.

As he continues to walk the sound of a mobile phone rings and he pulls his slim line phone from the back pocket of his pants.

Hello

-=- Assault Commentator ||| Ricky Gold -=-
Hi Mr. Jackson… its Ricky Gold. I was wondering if we are still on for our sit down interview to be shown on Aftermath tomorrow evening. I want to get your thoughts on Jeran Hudson and that interesting biography we got on him this past week.

-=- The Jackal ||| Karl Jackson -=-
Absolutely, I have a lot to say too so it’s the perfect opportunity for me to say it.

-=- Assault Commentator ||| Ricky Gold -=-
The thing is we need to get it filmed this evening for it to get a time slot in tomorrow’s aftermath. Is that going to be okay for you… lets say about 8?

-=- The Jackal ||| Karl Jackson -=-
Not a problem Ricky I have nothing on. I’ll come straight from the gym as I’m down that way for training.

-=- Assault Commentator ||| Ricky Gold -=-
That’s good, see you then.

The Jackal hangs up his phone and the scene fades as he places the phone back in his back pocket and continues walking down the bustling streets of Springfield, Illinois.

-----------------------------------

The second scene opens with Karl Jackson and Ricky Gold sitting opposite each other in a smart looking lounge. Karl Jackson is dressed in a while ‘Jackal’ T-shirt and a pair of blue training pants. Ricky Gold is dressed in a smart black suit with a bright red shirt, which has the top button undone, he is holding a thin stack of paperwork. The décor is set about to give the place a very natural feeling. The walls and floor are laced with wooden beams and there is a plethora of different indoor plants decorating the place. The seats are leather seats, colored brown to go with the natural colors around them. There is a camera crew alongside them both as Ricky Gold and Karl Jackson appear to be awaiting the signal to begin. Moments later the signal is given and Ricky Gold shuffles to get comfortable in his seat as the camera focuses in on just him as he talks to the camera.

-=- Assault Commentator ||| Ricky Gold -=-
I am Ricky Gold and I am joined tonight by Karl ‘The Jackal’ Jackson who, this coming Friday night on Assault, will take on the fast rising star Jeran Hudson. He will then go on to Horrorcore on October 31st to fight for the Intercontinental Title against Maynard O’Toole… who is now the longest reigning intercontinental champion of all time.

The camera now pans out to reveal both Ricky and the Jackal, who smiles and nods in agreement with Ricky Gold.

-=- Assault Commentator ||| Ricky Gold -=-
Well Karl Jackson. We both saw the impressive biography that Jeran Hudson released about himself this past week. Previously he was something of an unknown, a mystery… now we see that this guy has definitely worked hard to get where he is today. Does this worry you?

The Jackal shakes his head and sits back, crossing his legs.

-=- The Jackal ||| Karl Jackson -=-
The short answer Ricky is No, it doesn’t worry me. He doesn’t worry me.

The Jackal smiles and interlocks his fingers, placing them onto his knee…after pausing for a moment he once again begins to speak.

-=- The Jackal ||| Karl Jackson -=-
Let me explain why.

Ricky nods and smiles as the cameras now focus in on the Jackal.

-=- The Jackal ||| Karl Jackson -=-
Firstly, I thought it was a great story that Hudson told and it got me thinking about how lucky I am. You see just a few hours ago, out on the streets of this very city, I saw the differences between people in this country. There are some people that have nothing, and have to work hard for anything they do have… and then on the other end of the scale there are those that have it all, sometimes they won’t even have to work for it. It’s upsetting to see a young boy who gets knocked to the floor, and for a man who has seemingly everything to disregard this boys feeling… and why?

Let me tell you why? It’s because society has taught us, the ones who have it, that the poor people are worthless, no good criminals. But the truth is…it is us, the general population that make them this way. That young boy, at the age is now, is innocent and is not a criminal nor will he have the desire to be one. But the attitude he witnessed there will be an attitude he comes across every day throughout his childhood. And it this that will cause this innocent young boy to grow up into a thief, a criminal, a street thug... just like Jeran Hudson!

Ricky stares with his mouth slightly open as he tries to take in what the Jackal has just said, totally out of character and seeming to actually care about someone other than himself.

-=- Assault Commentator ||| Ricky Gold -=-
So you are saying that Jeran Hudson is a criminal?

-=- The Jackal ||| Karl Jackson -=-
No…listen to me. Jeran Hudson was once a young boy, living a troubled life. Now in all fairness I couldn’t give a crap where he was born, where he lived or whether it was his mum or dad that looked after him growing up. The fact of the matter is, society failed him… his parents failed him. He was taught no discipline from his parents; he was showed no love or affection. It’s no surprise that this troubled young man ended up getting involved with the wrong kind of people. It is no surprise that he become a criminal, a street thug, a man who went out there and took part in illegal street fighting.

-=- Assault Commentator ||| Ricky Gold -=-
But Karl, it is this illegal street fighting that has seemingly molded Jeran Hudson into the superstar he is today. From hearing what some of these people said about him, surely you have to be a little concerned?

-=- The Jackal ||| Karl Jackson -=-
Of course…the guy knows how to fight! He’s done all these martial arts and he’s been out there on the streets getting involved in street brawls. If it wasn’t for all that he wouldn’t be the fighter he is today. But I’m not concerned about this… for he needs to remember one thing and I would suggest you too need to remember the same thing. This is wrestling… its not Mixed Martial Arts, Thai Boxing, Street fighting or that Movement shit he was speaking about.

Ricky Gold takes a sip of water from a glass next to his chair and then sits forward with a look of concern on his face.

-=- Assault Commentator ||| Ricky Gold -=-
Did you not hear about Hudson’s days in the nGw, where he began his career as a professional wrestler?

Jackal laughs and sits forwards also. He then takes a sip of the water in a glass alongside his chair…

-=- The Jackal ||| Karl Jackson -=-
I was just getting to that bit. It would appear that these historic days of illegal street fighting and being a brutal thug are over now and this messed up kid has finally been able to learn something with a bit of discipline and finesse. And so he made it big in nGw… even became World Champion and held the title for what was it…

Ricky Gold looks down at his papers and shuffles through them for a moment…

-=- Assault Commentator ||| Ricky Gold -=-
8 months I think… err…yes 8 months it says here.

The Jackal laughs and points to the paperwork in Ricky’s hand.

-=- The Jackal ||| Karl Jackson -=-
Hey you’ve been researching this guy haven’t you? Okay so 8 months. And apparently he was unbeatable… or at least some jabroni called Michael Stratus thinks so. Well let me talk serious for a second here.

The Jackal’s smile now fades and he takes another sip of water before his eyes focus on Ricky, staring at him as he continues to speak.

-=- The Jackal ||| Karl Jackson -=-
Jeran Hudson is fast, he’s strong, he’s clever, he’s a former champion in a former fed, has got the credentials to be something great here in CZW. But I am faster, I am stronger, I am cleverer and I too have held championships. The difference is I am already something great in CZW. I am the man they call the most dangerous man in CZW and I am damn sure not ready to be knocked off my podium just yet. It doesn’t matter to me what your name is, where you were born or whatever freaking martial arts you’ve done… or what underground fighting crap you’ve been involved in. It doesn’t matter to me what you have done in nGw, about the stables you’ve been in or the people you have beat… this is CZW. Every guy in the back will tell you that you can do all these big things in these small time feds, but until you do that in CZW you do not have the right to call yourself great! What is it Jeran? You’ve beat two rookies, two young guys just beginning on the wrestling circuit and you now think you are in my league! Well the sorry reality is that you are sadly mistaken and I will make you look like a punk when I get you in my CZW ring!

There is pause until Ricky recognizes that the Jackal has finished.

-=- Assault Commentator ||| Ricky Gold -=-
How do you answer the comments made that you do not have the mentality to face Jeran Hudson.

The Jackal laughs sarcastically and then closes his right hand into a tight fist and speaks with a serious tone, with an undertone of anger.

-=- The Jackal ||| Karl Jackson -=-
I don’t have the mentality? And this comes from his trainer… a man that is training up young men because he failed to ever make something of himself in the ring. What the hell does that guy know about being mentally ready? Whenever I get given an opponent, I study them… I learn about them and I study them some more. I figure out how I will use my wrestling technique to outwrestle them and I train damn hard every single day of the week. I figure out there weaknesses, and everyone has one. Once I know what it is… I exploit it, I work on it. The end result is always the same… I come out on top and I win. I win because not only am I a great wrestler, but I am mentally ready for any challenge…I am sure as hell ready for Jeran Hudson!

Ricky Gold nods for a moment and then looks down at this paperwork.

-=- Assault Commentator ||| Ricky Gold -=-
Let me go back to something Jeran said… he asked the question of why Jesse Montana wants to ruin your reputation as CZW’s most dangerous man by having you facing him on Assault…that to me is definite show of confidence by your opponent. He seems quite sure that he has your number… or is just fighting talk in your opinion?

-=- The Jackal ||| Karl Jackson -=-
Well the answer to Jeran’s question is this… Jesse Montana fears the Jackal. He fears what I am going to do to his best friend at Horrorcore and fears what I will do to him after I have taken apart his little stable. He is putting you in this match in the hope that you can extinguish some of my fire. He sees potential in you, and why wouldn’t he, you are a great fighter… but he is desperate to get rid of his biggest threat, and he’s using you to do it. In other words he is throwing you to the wolves so he can escape for that little bit longer. He is using you, just like he used me… but he is mistaken. You have potential, but you are not as good as me and Jesse Montana will realize this when he has no choice but to stand and idly watch why the Jackal destroys yet another member of his precious Assault roster.

-=- Assault Commentator ||| Ricky Gold -=-
That being said, Jeran seems very confident. As a man who uses intimidation as a method to beat your opponents, how are you going to beat a man who seems to be not intimidated at all?

-=- The Jackal ||| Karl Jackson -=-
Ricky… I don’t need for him to fear me. He may not fear me and this is fine by me. But the guy had better learn to respect me.

The Jackal turns to the camera as his steely, cold blue eyes look into the camera lens.

-=- The Jackal ||| Karl Jackson -=-
Jeran, in the last few years you have learnt to be a great wrestler, and on top of your previous martial arts experience, it kind of makes you a force to be reckoned with. But I have spent every day since the age of five training in one discipline, and it is a discipline I have become a true expert in… that is the art of wrestling. No, I have never done martial arts… I have never competed in illegal street fighting. But I have mastered the art of wrestling to the point where there is not a man alive that can beat me in a wrestling match. There is not a man alive that can withstand my vicious submission holds and bone crunching throws. You can come at me with all the viciousness and brutality that you have, and I welcome it. I look forward to it, hell I even like it Hudson! Have you not seen the beatings I took in the Stairway to Heaven match or the elimination chamber match? My point being that despite losing pints of blood, suffering numerous concussions and spending countless days in hospital I still went on to win! And I was still back the next week for more! Ask yourself Hudson, can you really take it to that next level? Are you ready to step into the ring with the best fighter you have ever had to fight?

-=- Assault Commentator ||| Ricky Gold -=-
Ok Mr. Jackson. Can I now divert your attention to these words that your opponent said at the end of his biography… directed towards you.

Ricky Gold pulls out a small dictator phone and presses the play button. Immediately it is clear that this is a recording of Jeran’s recent airtime as the sound of the crowd booing is very evident

-=- Jeran Hudson -=-
The time is ticking, Karl. And I can sense your nerves spasm behind your little eyes. You're going to make a lovely example for me to set forth for the entire CZW Company. It is on Friday, that your true colors will bleed. And red will the canvas be when I taste your blood from my hands. Because when it comes down to it, I'm going to be the one to finish what Mack Beaudin started. And after that....When you face Maynard O'Toole for the Intercontinental Championship. You better hope you lose that match. Because if hell freezes over and you win? Your the first one I'm coming back to get. Believe that, Jackie. Friday is only the beginning for me and you. I'm going to take pleasure in making you my personal CZW bitch, Jackson. All I have to do is sit and wait for Friday. But I can do that. I have all the time in the world. I've found my game. Now it's time for me to kill it.

As Ricky presses stop on the tape recorder, it is clear that these comments have angered the Jackal as he is now staring, his face turning a little red. He looks towards the camera again and speaks directly to Jeran.

-=- The Jackal ||| Karl Jackson -=-
There not nerve spasms you idiot, it is hunger behind my eyes. Hunger to win my first CZW title, hunger to end the System of Supremacy and hunger to take a cocky, arrogant little worm like you…Jeran Hudson… and snap your ankle like a twig. You want to finish what Mack started, be my guest…you will end up the same way as him… running the hell out of CZW with your tail tucked between your legs. And as regards Maynard O’Toole… I see you guys are now friends. Well rest assured of three things Jeran. I will beat you this Friday night on Assault because I refuse to lose to a piece of crap like you. I will beat Maynard at Horrorcore because he has what I want. And then when I win, if you want a shot then I will welcome your challenge. But then I think we should wait until after Friday night before we discuss that, for I feel after our match you will want no more of the Jackal. This Friday night you will pass out or tap out to the man who is the most dangerous man in CZW, the next intercontinental champion and the man that will continue to dominate Friday night Assault… Karl ‘The Jackal’ Jackson!!!!

The Jackal then stands up and pushes his chair back hard.

-=- The Jackal ||| Karl Jackson -=-
Ricky, this interview is over. I have got a match to get ready for… A match I damn well intend to win. I’m not going to win sitting here talking to you.

Ricky stands up and holds out his hand…

-=- Assault Commentator ||| Ricky Gold -=-
Well thank you for your time and …

The Jackal holds up his hand as if to stop Ricky talking, and Ricky does stop.

-=- The Jackal ||| Karl Jackson -=-
I have to train for my match!

The Jackal turns and walks away leaving Ricky Gold standing alone with his hand still outstretched awaiting the hand shake. He puts his hand down and the scene fades as he smiles and nods. It is as if he has seen the fire behind the Jackal’s eyes and now knows that the he, Michael Farley and the fans are in for one hell of a match this Friday night on Assault.
