++ACT I++ -One door closes and another opens.- A section of a ritzy restaurant in Des Moines has been blocked off for a private party, and a couple dozen people mingle in the restricted area. Of these, we see all three members of Idolized, laughing and carrying on with several of the party-goers. In addition, CZW World Champion Jesse Montana as well as Jacqui are in attendance, seated at a table and chatting with System of Supremacy stablemates Maynard O’Toole and Cameron. Eventually, dinner is served and the large group situate themselves around the main table, when suddenly, Maynard stands, clinking his fork on his glass to draw everyone’s attention. -‘The OGT,’ Maynard O’Toole- “Hey, hey, listen up. Let’s have your attention, alright? As many of you may know by now, we’re about to head into another revolution within CZW. Tomorrow night in Des Moines marks the end of Assault and Warzone, and the following week will be the first of CZW’s new program, ‘Overdrive!” The group all applaud and raise their drinks. After taking a sip from his own, Maynard continues. -‘The OGT,’ Maynard O’Toole- “Now, as we all know, there is only one man fit to run the show, and it sure as hell isn’t going to be anyone who has gone through the revolving door of General Managers over on Warzone! I’m talking, of course, about our Assault GM, our World Heavyweight Champion, and my good friend, ‘The Sensation,’ Jesse Montana!” Again they all applaud and toast the Sensation. -‘The OGT,’ Maynard O’Toole- “With the new show, the competition will be more fierce, and the fans will be expecting the superstars to deliver like never before. Try as they might though, there won’t ever be anyone to match us. System of Supremacy will be the dominant force on the new flagship of CZW, and nobody, not Anarchy Rising, not Beautiful Agony, and especially not XTC, can stand in our way!” The small group cheers quite loudly, finishing off the toast before commencing their dinner. Soon after, Kristyl Marie walks out onto the balcony for a cigarette, bundled up in a long coat to ward off the autumn chill. -Kristyl Marie- “Well, Shawn, you were right about one thing. This is about jealousy. YOURS. That’s right, this is personal, but it’s because you cannot handle your own failures. All you have to speak of is our alliance with Jesse Montana, because you ‘hate him’ so much. And it’s all nothing but your jealousy rushing to the surface. What you fail to understand, Mr. Waters, is that we are not allied out of greed or some alleged promise of fame. We secured that on our own the night we arrived in CZW by winning the tag-team championships in our first appearance. We have banded together because we are the elite. We’ve already established our dominance as tag-team champions. Maynard O’Toole is the single most successful Intercontinental Champion in CZW history, and Jesse is likewise the greatest World Heavyweight Champion that this federation has seen since it’s inception. System of Supremacy is not just some clever name, it is a proclamation. We ARE the supreme, the elite, and the absolute best that CZW has to offer. And you? You cannot stomach that. All because you could not be part of it. You see, Shawn, you despise the fact that we’re successful as a unit, whereas you and your obsession with the Upstarts of yesterday could not maintain yourselves. I’ve already explained our immediate success, but now let me remind you of your failures. You were the first to leave, betraying the man who bested you, not only at Summer Showdown, but also at Hatewave. Since leaving the Upstarts, you promptly lost your Television Title and joined forces with another championship failure in Krimzon Blaze. Well done, Shawn. Well done, indeed. As of late, you haven’t amounted to anything other than trying to create some tasteless ‘boy-toy’ image that, quite frankly, I find repulsive. Fortunately your girlfriend has no problem leaving her trailer park to spend time with you. I’m happy you’ve found eachother, honestly.” She grins smugly and taps her ashes into the dainty ashtray on the balcony. -Kristyl Marie- “Next, Mack Beaudin. The #1 Draft Pick was also the first one smart enough to realize that he was nothing on his own. Realizing he was washed up, at least he had the decency to hang up his boots and move on. Perhaps you could learn a lesson here, Mr. Waters. And, who could forget ‘the Graduate’ Gregory Grantham? He made a massive scene about how he ‘used’ Jesse to elevate his own status and take the helm as the General Manager of Warzone. Well done, Gregory. You raised your name to draw attention to yourself, and all you did was promote your own catastrophic failure. Perhaps I’m being a bit harsh on Mr. Waters when the joke that was the CZW’s ‘Smartest Superstar’ is so much more telling. At least you and Mr. Beaudin have not shown a complete lack of competence at anything aside from publicly stroking your own egos.” She grins with just a hint of malice reflecting in her icy blue eyes, taking another small drag from her cigarette. -Kristyl Marie- “Maynard O’Toole found his own success, and as such he has persevered as Intercontinental Champion and proven himself to be a trusted ally. Trust is a thing you claim to have found. Coming from the man who stabbed his mentor in the back, that’s a bold claim, Shawn. Despite everything that has happened, you are a hypocrite. You claim that Jesse is not to be trusted, when YOU are the one who drove the knife into his back. Who is the real criminal in this picture, honestly? All you need to do, Shawn, is look in the mirror. And, if my name were Krimzon Blaze, I’d want a mirror as well, so that I might watch my own back. I’m sure Waters has more knives where the first came from…” She snuffs her cigarette and winks to the camera. -Kristyl Marie- “And yes, Shawn, I will see you soon. As I watch you and your partner fail to achieve the prize that you mistakenly think you so rightfully deserve.” Turning away, she walks back in from the balcony, rejoining the party. ++ACT II++ And so it begins. Idolized’s H2 Limousine pulls up outside of the Wells Fargo arena in Des Moines, the site for the final chapter of Assault. The driver moves and opens the door to the back seat, and Evan, Kyle, and Kristyl all emerge, the champs dressed casually and Kristyl in a dress as always. They are also accompanied by a pair of beauties, a redhead and a raven-haired lovely, each carrying one of the Tag Team Title belts. CZW reporter Ryan Lewis is there with a camera crew, intercepting the group as they make for the arena. -Ryan Lewis- “Ah, Idolized, I was wondering if I might take a minute of your time for a CZW.com exclusive interview?” -‘The Crowned Prince of Cool,’ Kyle Riley- “Sure, Ry-Lew. We have a couple minutes.” Lewis seems unsure of whether or not he’s being mocked by Idolized constant usage of the ‘Ry-Lew’ nickname, but he’s definitely suffered worse, so he seems to brush it aside. -‘Ry-Lew,’ Ryan Lewis- “Well, it has been announced that tonight will be the final episode of Assault. What are your thoughts on that?” -‘The Hollywood Hookup,’ Evan Tyler- “I think it’s a good move. A lot more can be done creatively now, and some matches can be made that wouldn’t necessarily happen before. Also, one show means that some of the titles are going to be redundant, like having a second tag-team title. We’ve said from the beginning that it was a mockery of the division, and now we’re going to do what we said we would do from day one. Win them both, and unify them, and show the world that tag-team wrestling is an art form, not just some secondary minor division to be used for filler.” -‘The Crowned Prince of Cool,’ Kyle Riley- “Just like we’re going to show Bread & Water what a real team does in the ring. Look, boys, and look close. These titles right here? We’ve only walked down the ramp at a CZW show without these babies ONE TIME. And that one time was heading down for our first match with the company. Hardly anyone remembers what we look like without them anymore, and they’re not going to get a reminder anytime soon, sure as hell not because of a couple wash-outs like you two.” Lewis interrupts him, pulling the mic back suddenly. -‘Ry-Lew,’ Ryan Lewis- “Well, Fire & Ice seem to be very focused on getting this win tonight. You might have your hands full.” -‘The Hollywood Hookup,’ Evan Tyler- “Look, Ry-Lew, we know that they’re not total pushovers, alright? You want a heart-felt, honest opinion? Fine. Waters, he’s pretty good. He hung in with Jesse at Hatewave. And Blaze, he’s a lot better than many people give him credit for. But here’s where they fall short. First, in a title situation, they have this awful habit of choking. And secondly, as we’ve covered many, many times, they don’t have the experience as a team. I mean, Shawn was bragging about how they’re undefeated as a team, but they’ve had how many matches together? Two? Three? And that apparently doesn’t count Extreme Intervention when they were the only ‘established’ team in the Warzone vs. Assault match, and STILL ended up being beaten by the other guys. Check the facts, man. We’re not underestimating Fire & Ice. Fire & Ice are OVERESTIMATING themselves.” Kristyl steps up, and Lewis politely lowers the microphone for her. -Kristyl Marie- “For all of their training together and bluster, their greatest failure is in their mentality. They seek the fame we have, and use this ‘rage against the system’ demeanor to rally the crowds behind them, but in the end, they are only driven by envy. They want to win the tag-team championship and unseat Jesse Montana. WE, however, seek to do only as we have been doing, and that is be the single greatest tag-team in CZW history. Tell me, Mr. Lewis, which do you think is a more sound way of motivating yourself? And who would YOU predict to win, knowing these facts?” -‘Ry-Lew,’ Ryan Lewis- “Well…I, uh, can’t speculate, as a journalist I’m supposed to remain impartial. I will say that Waters and Blaze had better be as focused as they claim to be, or they’ll be in a lot of trouble later on tonight.” She grins wryly, patting him on the arm. -Kristyl Marie- “Just what I figured you would say, Ryan. You’re so good at your job. Now, if you’ll excuse us, we have a match to prepare for.” Lewis nods and stands aside, and the group moves into the arena through the side entrance. ++ACT III++ Showtime. They walk slowly through the halls behind the arena as the last run of show that has made them infamous is moments from commencing. Dressed in their ring gear, and clad in their dark green longcoats, they wear their titles prominently around their waists and walk proudly, as always with an air of confidence. Kyle wears his sunglasses, and pushes them back up his nose a bit as they walk past various backstage personnel. They pass by ‘Mr. Entertainment,’ Brian Blaze, and Evan gives him a point and a grin. -‘The Hollywood Hookup,’ Evan Tyler- “There’s the Blaze that actually makes me laugh on purpose!” They pass by leaving Blaze slightly unsure if he was just complimented or mocked (it was the former) and proceed down the hall. We catch sight of Brian Kirkland and Dwayne Campbell talking in the hallway, likely about the main event that evening. Proceeding through the backstage, Kyle shines the faceplate of his belt with his sleeve, grinning as he admires the shining gold. Evan runs a hand through his hair slowly, winking at an attractive woman working with the catering service. She blushes and moves about her business, and the trio continue on, ending up right behind the stage. They stand silently, each mentally preparing as they always do for the coming match-up. Just outside the curtain, the screaming fans can be heard cheering for their opponents, and the three all share a collective grin. Kyle snickers and once again adjusts his sunglasses. Outside the curtain, the opening riff to Finger Eleven’s ‘Paralyzer’ is heard, and many of the fans’ reactions turn a 180. Unfazed, the three move together towards the curtain. -Kristyl Marie- “Showtime…” They move through the curtain, preparing to put their titles, as well as their pride on the line as Assault becomes another stepping stone in the road to greatness that is Combat Zone Wrestling. |
