The Resurrection Justin Marsham v. Kris Kash: Roleplay One Scene One: The Resurrection Humid air is taken into the lungs of the malicious Epitome of Technical Finesse; and each breath he takes grows increasingly harder to take in. Dry, burnt grass is crushed underfoot as the former CZW Intercontinental Champion sets out on his own personal journey. He has traveled across the world, fought in a plethora of brutal contests and has possessed the most celebrated championships and honors. But now, he is forced to rejoin this path – to once again travel the road for the broken and damned. Ahead of Marsham, the sun sets. A fading spectrum of color descends below the horizon. The heavens are painted as daylight dies; and he cannot help but reflect on how this evening heralds the weeks to come. Perhaps the era of technical finesse has come to an end. He has suffered a lot these past few weeks – all stemming from the loss of his championship. Coupled with the long-running issues he has had with his nose, endured in a match against Maynard O’Toole months ago, Marsham was put out of in-ring action by a minor elbow injury. The injury came at a convenient time as CZW took a brief hiatus and Marsham cashed in on the break, eliminating the damage before it could develop into a more serious problem. Surgery was minor, but was unbelievably painful. Though it is rare to happen, Marsham does not believe that the anesthesia completely put him under. Whether that is what happened or it is mind playing tricks on him – it does not matter. He can still feel the cold cut of surgical steel against his flesh. He can feel his warm blood ooze out from each incision and the taste of copper still lingers on his tongue. But none of this compares to the emotional pain he has felt after losing his beloved championship to the Five Star Superstar. He feels naked without his belt. Worst yet, he has come to blame himself for how the events unfolded. His attempts at mind play backfired. He sought to ridicule El Pablo, force the Five Star Superstar into a poor decision and cause him to underestimate the Epitome of Technical Finesse. Instead, El Pablo emerged from a blanket of lies and deceit – pushed aside all forces stacked against him – and pinned Marsham for the three count. On that night, Marsham lost his most prized possession – his CZW Intercontinental Championship; and, ever since, he has been forced to endured humiliation and denigration. It is no longer about how he lost the belt or that he even did, but who he lost to. There’s no question that he blames himself. He has no one other than himself to blame after all. He was confident. He was determined. He was cocky. And he did not appreciate El Pablo’s in-ring talent. As a result – Marsham was forced to choke on his own words. All of the mind games in the world could not save him. While the scene of Marsham’s path across the field is shown, with various angles of The Epitome of Technical Finesse shown, a voice over begins. The voice is that of this diabolic competitor, though much more soft and somber than usual. He has nothing to be proud of that this moment. The bitter taste of defeat still lingers on his breath and the ring’s canvas has left an undeniable burn across his flesh – one that will take more time to heal. ”I realize now mistakes I’ve made and the things I could have done to correct them. But, there is no going back to change what has been done. We are all forced to learn from these errors and use them to mold us into better fighters, better warriors, better competitors. When people tell of the pain of loss, no one fully appreciates it until they experience it for themselves. It’s a cold, emptiness. But, from that emptiness and amidst a song of violins, I shall emerge. But what has affected me worse than the loss of my beloved title is the humiliation I suffered at the hands of the Five Star Superstar. I see that I screwed up. I see where my faults are. However, I am driven to the brink of madness with each approaching fan, reminding me of this loss, telling me that I would never beat El Pablo. Each word, each accusing eye picks at me like a scab. The day will come when I stand toe-to-toe with El Pablo again; and that day will be sooner than later. I will then prove the point I sought out to make a month ago.” Cameras rotate around the vicious submission artist. Images of previous battles illustrate Marsham’s hard-fought career in CZW, taking to the screen in the backdrop like fading memories. His progression forward is unhindered – just as it shall be in the real world. He is booked this week to face Kris Kash, a returning CZW veteran that had left the company around Marsham’s arrival. ”I have no choice but to battle my way back to the Five Star Superstar. I am on my road of redemption. Blood will be spilled and I will feel no sympathy for those who are left in my wake. CZW is my home and I refuse to be dishonored and disgraced in my house. I offer to apologies to my opponent this week, Kris Kash. Your triumphant return to the ring is soon to be spoiled. I have come to terms with the fact that I was not ready for El Pablo; and so I must be ready next time. I know nothing about you and I do not care to. All that matters to me is making it back to El Pablo’s door step. With all of these fan remarks, I find myself not even caring about it being for the Intercontinental Championship anymore. Instead – it has become a matter of status. It has become personal. I just want CZW’s current Intercontinental Champion in that ring so that I can prove these fans, this company and this God-forsaken world wrong!” The final words are spoken louder than the rest, forcing the fans to recognize the severity of Marsham’s dementia. All of their opinions have got beneath his skin. The once egotistical and ever-so-despised competitor has succumbed to his own medicine. It is a powerful thing for Marsham to admit his faults and, furthermore, to issue a declaration that he is more interested in a battle than a championship. ”Every talent in this company feels the need to have the last word or give some cliché parting remark. So, to you Mr. Kash, I issue you a single promise. At Overdrive, this week, you will be victimized.” Completing the segment, Marsham issues an authoritative guarantee. He talks a strong talk, but will he be able to back it up this time? His bodily injuries have healed, but those that El Pablo had left on his confidence remain. There is no doubt in anyone's mind that Marsham will do his best to battle back from this and once again reclaim his coveted championship. But, until he can overcome these problems, that day may never dawn. Stay tuned. |
