VIVA LA RAINBOWLUTION!!!

The scene opens outside the Nova Scotia Hospital in Halifax, Canada, sight of the most recent edition of CZW Overdrive. It does not appear to be an exceptionally busy day for the staff housed inside the buildings, with only a handful of people seen walking in and out of the glass sliding doors. The camera slowly starts to zoom in, as a man dressed in a black and green t-shirt, baggy black cargo pants and a pair of camouflage-style sneakers steps through the door. He looks up at the mid-afternoon sky, and approaches a railing positioned just in-front of the main entrance, leaning forwards and placing his hands on the silver metal bar as he surveys his surroundings. As the camera comes to rest with his upper body filling most of the screen, we can see that this man is CZW’s Grand Slam, EPIC, Five Star, Grammy, Oscar, Nobel Peace Prize-winning El Pablo.. of the Year. Today is one of those rare occurrences where our hero is seen without his now trademark mask, although once one observes the thick layer of bandaging wrapped around his head in order to conceal the wounds inflicted by “The F’N Boss” TJ Hix and his associates last week on Overdrive, it is pretty understandable as to why not. As EP continues to gaze out over the camera, a phone rings, sending a somewhat tinny version of “Been Training Dogs” by the Cooper Temple Clause floating out into the ether. EP glances down, and slips a hand into his pants pocket, pulling out a small black and silver clam-style cellphone. EP flips it open, and places it to his ear. EL PABLO: Mouse-man. … Oh, hey Brian! … Yeah, just got out. … Nah, not too much. I did pay for a couple of other people’s operations, though. … Nothing major, no. I just think it’s ridiculously unfair that a healthcare system that gets so much money thrown at it neglects over 50 million people just because they aren’t rich and privileged enough. … Uh-huh.. … Well, why do we need Alabama as part of our audience anyway? … Mmm-hmm.. … Right.. … Nah, I’m seeing how much space I can fill up with idle phone chatter.. … LOL. … Yeah, I felt dirty for that too. … Alright, well, I’m waiting on a ride, so I’ll check in later on when I get to the hotel. … Cool. … Laters. EP hangs up the phone, and places it back inside his pocket. No sooner has he done so, than a long black limousine pulls up in front of him, sporting the CZW logo halfway down the side. The engine shuts off, and the thirty-something male driver steps out onto the asphalt. DRIVER: Mr Pablo, how are you sir? EL PABLO: Oh, you know, enjoying being back at my second home! DRIVER: Haha, very good sir! EP vaults over the railing, and jumps down the small step up from the asphalt to the entrance, as the driver walks round to that same side of the limo. DRIVER: I should inform you, sir, that you will have a guest on your journey to the airport. EL PABLO: Oh god, not Ryan Lewis again! That dude should NOT be aloud in enclosed spaces with company! DRIVER: I’m afraid you’ve guessed incorrectly, sir, although you are in the right ball park. EP flashes a quizzical look at the driver, who steps in front of him and opens the door to the rear part of the limo. As he does so, the camera cuts to a squirrel’s eye view, revealing a familiar face sat inside. ZODIAC THRILLA: What it do, Pablo? EP grins, and enters the limo, bumping knuckles with Zodiac as he sits down. EL PABLO: Zodiac! My man! Been too long, brother. ZODIAC THRILLA: True dat, man, true dat! EL PABLO: So what are you up to? I mean, I’d heard you were getting into the interviewing side of things, but.. ZODIAC THRILLA: Yeah, yeah. Well, rehab was goin’ a LOT slower than the doctors were hopin’, so.. I figured why not get involved in some of the behind the scenes stuff while I was waitin’ for the big OK, ya feel me? EL PABLO: Yeah. That sucks, though. ZODIAC THRILLA: Hey, it happens. So, with Jenny on probation, and Ryan booked up elsewhere this week, Damage obviously saw fit to throw me in at the deep end, and hook me up with a gig interviewing the boy himself, El Pablo! EL PABLO: Awesome. ZODIAC THRILLA: So.. I mean, there’s so many things to talk about after the last edition of Overdrive! I’ll start at the finish. Matt Covey makes his shocking return after the main event, and - in something completely unexpected on so many levels - helps you, a man he’s had a long, intense rivalry with, both directly and by association of Ace King and Team XTC, up to your feet after your being assaulted by Hix’s new gang of cronies. I mean, you more than anyone must have been thinking, “what the hell!?” EL PABLO: Yeahhhh.. Honestly, I still don’t understand it even now. I mean, let’s not beat around the bush, Matt Covey and I have NEVER got on. He made my friend, his cousin, Special Ed’s CZW life a living hell right from the word go, eventually driving him out of active competition for good.. he forced me into an engagement to the shemale Jena Cyde.. he attempted to bring about the destruction of Team XTC with his creation of the Whole Damn Show.. not to mention all the stuff with Ace and Ruth that I can’t even think about anymore. I mean, morally we’re just on two completely separate wavelengths, if he’s even broadcasting at all. So, yeah.. to have him apparently extend the hand of.. well, “friendship” may yet be a bit strong, but you know.. it’s an odd one, to say the least. At the time, I had no idea who it was or what was going on, you know? I’d just taken god knows how many shots to the head, I had blood all in my eyes and stuff.. I can just barely make out the shape of this hand extending down towards me. I mean, I just assumed it was KB or someone like that. But I get up, and I suddenly see the beard, the eyes, the ponytail.. I half expected to see a fist or a beer bottle as well. Strange shit though, I’m interested to see what exactly he’s up to. Unsurprisingly, I’m not entirely trusting of anything just yet. ZODIAC THRILLA: Understandable. The other big talking point with that main event was obviously the attack by Silencio and these so-called “Brothers of Misery” on yourself at the behest of “The F’N Boss” TJ Hix. Do you remember much of that? EL PABLO: Erm, not really, if I’m honest. I remember being smashed in the back by what I assume was a steel chair. I open my eyes, and all I see is steel, just in front of my face. A crunch, and then nothing until Covey. I didn’t even know the Brothers or XTC had been out until Ruth filled me in in the ambulance. Whatever, though. It’s just one more front for Team XTC to fight on, you know. We’ve had as bad before and come through, I see no reason why these latest wars won’t be the same. ZODIAC THRILLA: Hey, no doubters here! One thing I did notice, though.. you said you didn’t know “XTC” had come out there during the chaos. Not “XTC and Cage”… Zodiac smiles somewhat deviously at EP, who starts grinning right back at him in that trademark manner. EL PABLO: I don’t know what on earth you’re getting at, Z. ZODIAC THRILLA: You know what I’m sayin’. EL PABLO: Nope! No clue, I’m afraid! ZODIAC THRILLA: Come on, man. Is Cage in Team XTC or what? EL PABLO: You.. are just gonna have to wait and find out, aren’t you? ZODIAC THRILLA: Ha, alright, whatever man. Guess we ain’t Blood Brothers no more, huh? EL PABLO: Haha! I guess not. ZODIAC THRILLA: Alright, well.. this week, you’ve got yourself a big-ass main event. I mean, we’re talking EPIC proportions right here. Team XTC and the Kaiju Warriors, taking on The Next Generation minus KING. How you feelin’ about this one, man? EP takes a moment to think about this one for a second, leaning back in his seat and gazes up towards the ceiling. EL PABLO: I suppose it was inevitable, really. We’ve seen more so than before this year how Tim Timmons is prepared to forgo all notions of defeat, futility, tedium and shelf life in order to achieve his goals. On one hand, you’ve got his quest to become the World Heavyweight Championship, despite the fact that Cage has beaten him in.. pretty much EVERY match they’ve ever had, and the fact that by now even members of his own stable must be saying “please Tim, for the love of god, let it go!”. On the other hand, you’ve got his desire to rid the CZW of Team XTC, something that he’s had on his to-do list in one form or another since the original incarnation of AMP XTC. Like I said though, we’ve been through similar before. The Upstarts, System of Supremacy, Whole Damn Show, 2_8-1, X-Ellence, The Exiled.. all have staged various attempts to pull the rug from under XTC, and all have fallen smouldering by the wayside, as our haul of success, trophies, records and top-selling DVDs continues to grow. Is this week gonna be the week that The Next Generation joins that list? Probably not. But you never know, it might be the rainfall that causes the icy patch on the road, ready to greet their little bandwagon as it hurtles towards the cliff top pass. ZODIAC THRILLA: That’s deep. EL PABLO: Shit, I must have taken a real bump on the head, that’s not like me at all! ZODIAC THRILLA: Haha. Okay, we’ve talked.. or not talked.. about Cage Stryker, what about the Kaiju Warriors? Where do Sawyer and Kong fit into the whole XTC picture? EL PABLO: Well, Sawyer and I have always had a long-standing respect for each other, even back when he was attacking me with a staple gun in the early X-Division days. We’ve both had our dealings with Timmons in the past, and with The Next Generation currently in possession of the tag title belts, there’s a lot of common ground and common interest there. If memory serves, this’ll actually be the first time in a long time that I’ve shared the ring with Sawyer, and the first time we’ve ever been on the same team. So I’m excited to see how it’ll all play out. ZODIAC THRILLA: Alright, well I think we’re getting’ to the end of this little communicado, here. Why don’t we do the old-school rundown of your opponents? EL PABLO: Alrighty. ZODIAC THRILLA: Caleb Walker. EL PABLO: Well Caleb’s old-school, just like you and me. A CZW original, and a former World Heavyweight Championship contender, as you well know. ZODIAC THRILLA: Evil Intentions 08, boiii! EL PABLO: But.. the dude’s lived off that one match - a match he lost, let’s not forget - for a year and a half now! What has he done since? Screwed Matt Stylez out of a win against Ronnie McNeil.. joined Derek Damage’s geriatrics association.. ZODIAC THRILLA: You mean the Players’ Club? EL PABLO: ..that too. And.. he’s become a bit-part player in the Next Generation. That’s IT. Good lord, can you spell wasted potential? Why is he even still hanging around? They might as well take him out the back and shoot him.. up.. with steroids.. again… ZODIAC THRILLA: Allegedly.. EL PABLO: Sure, sure. Fact is, it’s been so long since he actually won a match.. did he ever win a match? I can’t really remember. Anyway, he ain’t about to restart now, put it that way. ZODIAC THRILLA: A’ight. What about Impaler? EL PABLO: Same goes for him. A man desperately trying to maintain a career based on the fact that he was a number one contender to the World Heavyweight Championship well over a year ago. I can have some sympathy with him in that he sustained a serious injury, but come on man.. I respect you for trying to get back in the saddle, but things have moved so far beyond where they were when you left.. no offence, Z. ZODIAC THRILLA: None taken, man, I agree with you completely. EL PABLO: As for the others.. Mountain Man is on a high right now after becoming the new Ultraviolent Champion, and in all seriousness, taking that thing away from Shrapnel is a hell of an achievement.. but this is a whole different kettle of fish. Main Eventing is something the guy hasn’t even got close to so far in his career, and to top it off, he breaks his duck in a match against not one, not two, but THREE former X-Champions. Sorry dude, but any advantage you may have been hoping that belt of yours would provide is well and truly knocked out of the park with that. Mountain Man, nice to meet ya, but don’t let the door hit you on your way through it. ZODIAC THRILLA: Harsh words, Pabs.. Now though, we get to what I suppose you’d call the “big two”, the founders of The Next Generation. Rob Wright, and the irritating sore himself, Tim Timmons. EL PABLO: Well, as far as Rob goes.. I have to say, I’m surprised he’s still a part of this. A few months ago, it looked like he and Tim were gonna come to blows any second. Fair dos though, they seem to have patched things up, and at least look capable of operating as a cohesive unit. Interestingly enough, Rob actually has the privileged position of being undefeated against yours truly. Two matches, two wins. I think only Alan Fiscus can say the same. Will he make it three of a kind this week? No. He won’t. The bad thing for Rob, is that this week he’s not gonna have KING by his side. Those two are a hell of a team, that can’t be denied, and fully deserving of those belts they wear around their waists. However, I don’t think it’s unfair to say that they bring out the best in each other, and with one missing, there’s a high possibility that the other will suffer as a result. And so, we get to Tim Timmons. Honestly, I don’t think I need to say too much at this point. Everyone knows the history between the two of us, everyone knows the hatred we feel for each other. Credit to him, he’s actually notched up a couple of victories against me recently, both in tag competition, too. That said, the last time we faced each other it was I who came out on top, and in all our time together here in the CZW, Tim has NEVER defeated me under hardcore stipulations. In fact, no-one in the CZW has managed to better me in Falls-Count-Anywhere competition. Adam Swinger, Eric Collum and Shawn Waters have all fallen victim to the concrete-slapping, bush-whacking, dumpster-driving, El Pablo Experience.. ..this week on Overdrive, that list gets five more entries. EP looks directly at the camera, as he points a finger over towards Zodiac. The camera pans across, and Zodiac looks at the lens himself, a wry smile on his face. ZODIAC THRILLA: Belee’ Dat. The scene fades to black. |
