VIVA LA RAINBOWLUTION!!!

Chapter One: The Picture Develops The scene opens inside a packed arena, apparently in the middle of a CZW Overdrive event. The eyes of the sell-out crowd are currently transfixed on the CombatTron, as Total Mayhem are seen setting fire to a black van in the arena parking lot. Over the top of the action, we can hear the voices of CZW commentators, Jarred Daniels and William Masters. DANIELS: SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE!!! TOTAL MAYHEM HAS MADE IT CLEAR THEY JUST DON’T GIVE A DAMN!!! MASTERS: No, and stop yelling, Total Mayhem just made it known that you mess with them they will f**k you up. The cameras show the van smoking heavily as sirens can be heard in the distance. DANIELS: Stop yelling?! These monsters may have just ki… “Rebirth of the Temple" by Silent Civilian hits and the crowd goes crazy as Mike Monroe and Tatum Regan make their way to the stage. DANIELS: My God it’s all happening here tonight in Las Vegas, Nevada. MASTERS: It’s always buzzing when were here in Vegas…I might even try and get a little bit of gambling in… DANIELS: Good, this time try not to lose your wife, house and kids on a game of blackjack! MASTERS: Hey, the blasted dealer cheated okay, and it wasn’t all of those things, I still had my luxurious mansion to keep me company…soon found myself a replacement wife, to do my cooking and cleaning. DANIELS: Jerk! And I can’t wait to see what Monroe says here… MASTERS: Who cares about Mike, it’s Tatum we all want to see! Tatum is dressed in gothic schoolgirl attire and Mike is in jeans, a XTC baseball jersey, and has his tag team belt over his shoulder. They make their way down the ramp, greeting the crowd before getting into the ring. They play to the crowd for a minute before Mike grabs a microphone from one of the crew. MONROE: What's going on, Vegas? Man, this place is like the villian in a monster movie. Just when everybody thinks that it is dead, It comes back to life and rips someone's throat out. The energy at the ppv, man, I haven't felt that in a long time. I got that spark back that was slowly going away. I'm starting to get that vibe back I had a year ago. We are starting to get some of our top, elite guys back. Big Nasty is back. Buck Evans is back. Alan Fiscus is back and he has some gold around his waist. Maynard O'Toole is back. I could go on and on, but I really don't feel like it. However with everything good, comes something bad. With every new life, comes a death. They say change is nessacary for survival. Unfortunately, It is time for me to make some changes myself. MASTERS: I wish he would stop talking in this cryptic nonsense, and just get down to what he has to say. DANIELS: Be quiet William, I think this is serious… You know, several months ago, I disbanded Beautiful Agony. For a long time I wondered if I did the right thing. And after some deep soul searching, I realized that I did do the right thing. With the boys split up between both shows and Jacob in the hospital, I didn't know what else to do. Then I was offered a spot in XTC. That was one of those opportunities you never turn down. Hell, I went places I never thought with these guys. I went up against and beat some of the best CZW has to offer. I won Tag Team gold. I had my first WHC shot. Hell, I even made the finals of this year's King of Combat. But with the near demise of CZW, things started to change. Ace has hung up his boots, Ruthie is MIA, things aren't the same any more. So it is with a heavy heart that I resign as a member of Team XTC. The crowd starts to shower him with boos, Monroe and Tatum looking on solemnly as the scene slowly fades to black. ------------------------- A second or two later, the action returns, this time showing a tearful Ace King stood in the centre of the ring, apparently at the same event. ACE KING: Finally, I’d be a fool if I didn’t mention the one guy who’s been by my side through thick and thin, the guy who rode with me to the upper echelon of Combat Zone Wrestling, and the one guy who’s spilled more blood than everybody who’s been killed in the War On Terror combined... I speak of “The Five Star Superstar” El Pablo. The crowd roar loudly as Ace looks over the crowd, who are now throwing up bright and colorful glow in the dark XTC posters. ACE KING: Pabs... *Ace starts crying in the middle of the ring* Pabs, you are everything that a best friend truly should be, and a whole lot more. You were always the first guy I’d go to in order to toss around ideas for present and future shows, and you were always the first to come to my side in the event of a conflict, and I can’t thank you enough for being there. Now, with all of that being said, I think the things that will stand out most for me when it comes to the two of us are the legendary chemistry that you and I had in the ring as The Five Star Gamblers... *Aside* One of the most successful in CZW history, I might add... *Faces crowd again* ...There was our legendary tag team, and then there were our public appearances. We might have gotten ourselves into a little bit more trouble than we originally thought we would, but at the end of the day, I wouldn’t have had it any other way, and if I had a chance to do it all one more time, I wouldn’t change a thing. Jesus... As he says that, the crowd chants “STEAMBOAT WILLIE!”, and this really throws Ace for a loop. ACE KING: See what I mean, buddy? They recognize what we’ve done, they really do. So Pabs, from the bottom of my heart... I thank you for being the guy who’s always been there to help me out of tough situations, and I am very proud to be able to call you my best friend. Now… Ace continues his address as the scene fades to black once more. ------------------------- A couple of seconds later, the darkness dissipates again, bringing us a view of a rather different CZW event: CZW Warzone! The action appears to have resumed in the middle of a tag-team match, with an out-of-costume El Pablo and Jesse Montana stood on opposing corners of the apron, and Ace King and Mack Beaudin battling with each other in the ring. Ace whips Mack toward the ropes and then runs his off his own rope. When he connects with the rope, his hand hits Pablo in the arm and the referee claims it was a tag. Pablo and Ace look confused and this gives Mack the chance to send Ace over the ropes outside. Pablo struggles to the top rope and does a flawless dropkick to Mack, sending him to the ground with a force. MATT STYLEZ: "What the hell? Who are they?" DANIELS: "Looks like the new tag team, Street 2 Street! What do they want?" The new tag team sprints down the ramp and begin to immediately assault Ace King. The referee is too buys watching the Pablo Mack fight to notice and Ace and Street 2 Street begin to fight outside the ring. They end up mid ramp and Ace has successfully knocked down Justin Brackus, who is laying on the ramp but Leonard nails a nasty clothesline to Ace. The referee finally notices and starts to yell at Ace to get back in the ring. This gives Jesse a chance to slide in an “item” to Mack who grabs it. Mack acts like he is hurting bad and Pablo bounces off the ropes as Mack gets to his feet. Mack then nearly beheads Pablo with a pair of brass knuckles knocking his completely to the mat. Mack then covers Pablo as Jesse runs to the referee and points at Mack, who has thrown the knuckles out of the ring, who slides over for the count.. 1…. 2…. 3!!!!! ** DING DING DING ** The referee rings the bell and Mack and Jesse get into the ring to celebrate. DANIELS :"They did it! They won… but they cheated. They will have an asterick next to this win, that’s for sure…" MASTERS: "Yea, Sure but the referee didn’t see it and whats legal is legal." DANIELS: "Matt, what do you… Wait.. where are you going?" Stylez throws his headset down and slides into the ring behind Mack and Jesse. They are looking up the ramp and the team dismembering Ace and down see Stylez slide in. Stylez runs at them and BAM!!! DANIELS: "What the hell!! Double High Style, Didn’t see that coming!" Stylez nailed them both with a vicious High Style and they both bounced off the apron. Pablo is fighting to get up and Stylez helps him to the ropes before sliding down to the floor level and running up the ramp. Leonard tries to hit Stylez with a boot but Stylez ducks and then spears Justin Brackus off Ace and begins to pummel him. Pablo hobbles up the ramp too and shoulder blocks Leonards knee before he can kick Stylez off Brackus. Brackus flips over on Stylez and begins to punch him as the two roll off the stage swinging. Leonard and Pablo lock up and Leonard sends Pablo into the guard rail but doesn’t see Ace who nails Leonard in the face with a camera. Leonard hits the Ramp hard as Pablo holds his back. Mack and Jesse begin to stur and get to their feet and look up the ramp to see the tides have turned on Street 2 Street. DANIELS: "Stylez may have gotten involved with the wrong team. He just pissed off the Upstarts!" Stylez grabs a microphone as he has gotten to his feet after Pablo hit Brackus in the back with part of the fence. Stylez looks into the ring from mid ramp and looks at Mack and Jesse with intensity. MATT STYLEZ: "You cheap bastards, Yea I saw you use those knuckles there, yes I saw the Upstarts new protection come down and take Ace up the ramp. Too bad you didn’t see what was coming your way. A new era is dawning and The Upstarts from here on out will be ONLY second best." Leonard begins to move and Stylez kicks Leonard right in the gut as he is talking. MATT STYLEZ: "This is the era of AMP XTC. The three you see before you are the NEW sheriffs in town and your little games aren’t going to mount to much anymore. So why don’t you two ladies come down and fight?" Jesse and Mack look at each other and Stylez drops the mic. Jesse and Mack climb down the ring and walk up the ramp. Stylez runs at them and ducks a clothesline from Mack and begins to trade blows with Jesse. Street 2 Street has had enough time to recover and are back on their feet and now they are trading blows with Ace and Pablo. Stylez is holding his own with Mack and Jesse until the clutter of teams meet mid ramp and then they all begin to brawl. Stylez ends up trading places with Ace and Pablo and Ace begins to trade punches with Mack, Pablo with Jesse and Stylez with both members of Street 2 Street as he uses his speed to make them hit each other inbetween swings. The two “new” stables begin to brawl and continue to fight off the ramp and down the side of the guardrails. DANIELS: "This is nuts. Someone break this up! Someone stop this!!!" MASTERS: "I don’t think that all the police force in Detroit could break this up. This is just going to continue!" The teams continue to fight as the screen appears to “glass over”, the camera pulling out to reveal a small silver flat-screen TV. The 7 men disappear under the black curtain into the backstage, and the camera slowly swings 180 degrees to show a more modern-looking El Pablo watching the action, his arms folded across his chest and a wistful smile upon his face. In his left hand, he clutches a remote control, and after a second or three, he points this at the television and clicks, shutting the monitor off. EP sighs, and turns to his left, walking off screen as the scene fades to black once again. -------------------------------------------------- Chapter Two: Taking Stock The scene reopens inside a large warehouse, somewhere in some part of some country in the world. Several employees can be seen flitting around amongst the vast, sprawling array of shelves, stocked to the rafters with boxes and packages of all shapes and sizes. The camera moves slowly towards a large garage-style door at the far end of the room, as it slowly starts to scroll upwards, the sunlight filtering in onto the cold concrete floor through the ever increasing gap. As the camera continues to zoom in, it soon becomes apparent that a very recognisable face is operating the “door open” switch. The long, black hair.. the crazy, excitable eyes.. the small, blonde-haired, ape-like, nutty companion perched on the table just beside him.. that’s right! Former CZW Superstar, and now-full-time chief executive of Brand XTC - Team XTC’s extensive merchandise department - Special Ed Covey. Ed steps away from the controls, and waves a large transit van into the warehouse. Slowly but surely, the stock is unloaded, and Ed wheels Loki and his table over to where the boxes have been piled up. He then hands his long-time accomplice a clipboard and pen, and excitedly rips the tape off the nearest box before looking inside. SPECIAL ED: It’s here! It’s here! Pablo! Come quick! Hullaballooza! After a few moments, El Pablo walks into shot, dressed in a black business suit, with a pink shirt and pink and black striped tie. His mask is, as ever, covering his face. EL PABLO: What’ve we got, Ed? Ed grins at EP, and reaches into the box, pulling out.. SPECIAL ED: The official Team XTC 2010 calendar! EP’s smile suddenly appears rather more forced, as he scans his eyes over the images of himself, Ace King, Krimzon Blaze and Mike Monroe on the cover. EL PABLO: Wooooooowwwww.. great news! Ed, apparently oblivious to El Pablo’s obvious conflict of emotions over what he is seeing, marches over to another box. SPECIAL ED: AND.. Ed tears this box open, and bounces back over to the table, clutching in his hand.. SPECIAL ED: ..the new “XTC Will Never Die!” t-shirts! EL PABLO: A-haaaaa.. That’s awesome, man.. really. EP lets out a sigh, which seems to finally twig Ed to an underlying issue in the Five Star Superstar’s mind. He cocks his head, as the eyes of the two men come into contact with each other. Well.. not literally.. you know what I mean… SPECIAL ED: You okay, Pa-heezy? EP smiles softly at his friend and former actively-competitive stablemate. EL PABLO: Yeah, I’m okay.. SPECIAL ED: Are you bummed about having to fight Mikey this week? You shouldn’t let that worry you, squire, XTC members have fought each other before, and the stable’s always come out the other side stronger than the connection between an Arizonian pixie and her marigolds. I should know, I tried to steal them once, ended up with a lobster in my pants and a cactus for a hat. EL PABLO: … SPECIAL ED: … EL PABLO: ..?? SPECIAL ED: ATCHOO! EL PABLO: ..Right. I probably won’t ask you to tell that story ever again. SPECIAL ED: What story? EL PABLO: Yes.. quite. Anyway, about the whole “XTC members fighting thing”.. Dude, haven’t you heard? Suddenly, a tinny version of “Been Training Dogs” by The Cooper Temple Clause begins to play. Ed looks around confusedly, as EP removes a small black cellphone from his pocket. He slides it open, and places it to his ear. MALE VOICE: B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B.. EL PABLO: Not the time, KB! EP hangs up abruptly, and returns the phone to his pocket. EL PABLO: Ed, come with me.. there’s something I need to tell you. EP puts his arm around Ed’s shoulder, as the two walk off screen. Darkness descends, accompanied by the words: 12.7 SECONDS LATER.. The scene reopens, with El Pablo stood in front of the camera, his hands on his hips and an awkward, sheepish expression on his face. He looks at the camera, as a man’s tortured screams can be heard from off-camera. The camera pans to the side, revealing an inconsolable Special Ed, writhing naked in a pile of crumpled XTC shirts and torn XTC posters, tears streaming down his face. The camera slowly pans back to EP, who - despite clearly trying not to burst out laughing - just shakes his head, as the screen fades to black for, what, the fifth time? -------------------------------------------------- Chapter Three: The Bit Where EP Actually Talks About His Opponent The scene opens in what appears to be a typical backstage environment, with CZW Interviewer Ryan Lewis stood in the middle of a long, winding corridor, dressed in his usual suit-and-tie combination with a microphone grasped tightly in the palm of his hand. RYAN LEWIS: Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, this is Ryan Lewis reporting exclusively for CZW.com! My guest at this time needs no introduction.. but for the sake of TV, I’ll tell you that he is a former X, Tag, Intercontinental AND World Champion.. the first and so far ONLY CZW Superstar to achieve the title of Grand Slam Champion.. the reigning Superstar of the Year.. and, not forgetting, the co-founder of the phenomenon that is Brand XTC.. I give you the Five Star Superstar, EL PABLO! The camera pulls out slightly as EP steps into shot, now dressed in his ring gear, although this time it appears a few changes have been made. Where the main of his attire is usually black and silver, it is now completely black, and the pink and black boas and fur have been replaced with bright, vivid, XTC-green ones. He folds his arms and smiles at the camera, giving a brief nod to the viewers at home and Ryan Lewis. RYAN LEWIS: Well, El Pablo, emotional scenes at the end of the last edition of Overdrive, with Ace King making perhaps his final appearance in a CZW ring. What are your thoughts on his retirement? EP nods slightly, and takes a few moment to consider his response. EL PABLO: Well Ryan, I really don’t think anything I can say will do justice to just how big a loss I think Ace King will be to Combat Zone Wrestling. On a personal level, we’ve been partners in one form or another since the third televised show this company ever put on, nearly two years now. We’ve waged war against the biggest dogs to come and go from this company, both singularly and in tag-team action, and between the two of us we’ve reached a level of success that many wrestlers worldwide, let alone here in CZW, can only dream of. And, in Brand XTC, we created an empire and a dynasty that I personally don’t think will ever be matched. So of course, I’m gonna miss him, but let’s not also forget that he was undoubtedly one of, if not THE greatest wrestler and champion this federation has had in its short, but proud history. RYAN LEWIS: Have you spoken to him much since his retirement? Is it definitely a closed case now, he’ll never be returning? EL PABLO: I have spoken to him, of course, we really are best friends both inside and outside of the ring. As of right now.. yeah, that’s it, CZW wrestler Ace King is no more. Whether that proves to be a permanent development or not, I don’t know. I certainly hope that he’ll find it in himself to make his way back at some point in the future, but for now.. *shrugs* ..the show must go on. RYAN LEWIS: Well, the show must go on, indeed, and this week you take on Mike Monroe, a man who WAS a member of Team XTC along with you and Ace until last week, when he resigned from the stable to recreate Beautiful Agony. What are your thoughts a) on this development, and b) on the match itself? At this point, EP’s demeanour changes quite dramatically, a slight scowl appearing on his face. EL PABLO: Well Ryan, let me tell you EXACTLY what my thoughts are.. EP suddenly snatches the microphone from Ryan’s grasp, and turns to stare right down the camera lens. EL PABLO: Mike Monroe.. you listen to me you ungrateful son of a bitch! Just who in the HELL do you think you are!? Team XTC took you and your ragtag band of misfits and motherf**kers under our wing.. we elevated you into the spotlight.. we gave you a chance to roll with the big boys, and we lifted YOU to main-event, World Heavyweight Championship-challenging status! And now you wanna turn your back on us!? Well mark my words, Misfit.. I am gonna make you pay for this betrayal. I am gonna drag you down to that ring in Dallas, Texas, and I am gonna show you.. just like I showed Matt Stylez and Shawn Waters.. that you do NOT.. f**k.. with Team XTC! I am gonna unleash the full fury of the X-Division that you TRIED to be a part of, before we lifted you from the pathetic ranks of the mid-card, and give you a raw, unforgiving, ass-whooping, skull-splitting, lesson-teaching, vengeance-taking, BE-A-UTIFUL AGONY-INFLICTING, EL.. PABLO.. EXPERIENCE!!! EP slams the mic into the chest of a stunned Ryan Lewis, and marches off screen. Ryan turns to the camera, his mouth open in complete shock, only to suddenly snap back and recoil slightly as EP steps back into shot. EL PABLO: ..but srsly.. I bear no ill-will whatsoever towards Mike for doing what he has. He spoke to us a while ago about wanting to get the old crew back together, and we knew how much of an internal battle it was for him to break it up in the first place, so we completely supported him in his decision. Don’t forget, Ryan, that Beautiful Agony and Team XTC have been “casual” allies since Stable Wars, way back in January, so there really was no sense of “controversy” or “betrayal” or “defection” about it. As far as the match itself goes.. I dunno how you wanna look at it. “Master vs Apprentice”? “XTC vs BA”? “Two former X-Champions locking horns“? EP shrugs again. EL PABLO: As far as I’m concerned, it’s just two friends going out there and giving the loyal CZW fans another high-quality dose of Five Star entertainment. Now, me and Mike have fought each other.. twice, I think. Once back when he was going under the banner of All-American Nightmare, where me and Ace - funnily enough - defeated him and Havok, Buck Evans and Dusty Davis, and the Samoan Wrecking Crew, in a match to crown the first ever CZW North American Tag-Team Champions, and once more in a triple-threat, number-one contenders match along with KB back in May. Unfortunately, we never got an official end to that particular match, as I’m sure you’ll remember, thanks to Hannah Montana getting her rag on and interfering. So, not really a lot for the statisticians and bookmakers to draw on, but to be honest, if there’s one person in the CZW who has almost as much knowledge of my wrestling style and ability as I do.. it’s Krimzon Blaze. But, Mike’s a close second. So I’m gonna have to be on my toes, try and shake things up a bit, throw a few curveballs, if I wanna pull out the win in this one. Ultimately though, it’s not really about the win for me, this one. Me and Mike are friends going into it, and we’ll still be friends once the final bell’s been rung. So Mike, best of luck, bring your “A” game.. see you in the ring. RYAN LEWIS: And what about Team XTC? With Ace and now Monroe leaving, what does the future hold for a stable that you helped create, and that has existed for well over a year and a half? EP lets out a big sigh at this point, and again takes a moment to consider his response. EL PABLO: Well, Ryan.. I don’t know. I’m gonna take a few days, have a think about it, speak with KB, Ed and the boys.. and try and figure out what the next step is gonna be. No matter what happens though, Ryan.. whoever may come, whoever may go.. the SPIRIT of XTC will never die. And THAT.. ..is a Five Star Guarantee. EP smiles at Ryan, then gives a nod to the camera, before walking off-screen again. The camera focuses back in on Ryan, who turns to face forward. RYAN LEWIS: Ryan Lewis.. CZW.com. The scene fades to black. |
