The scene opens up with Mike King in a suit and James Adomian dressed up like Gov. Jesse "The Body" Ventura during the 80's with sunglasses and a boa. Ventura: Ladies and gentleman, welcome back to The Body Shop. I am Jesse "The Body" Ventura With me tonight is another professional wrestler who actually wears eyeliner and mascara, Combat Zone Wrestling's Mike King. Mike King, it is a pleasure to have you on. King smirks at the pleasantries. King: Yeah but you are the originator Gov. Ventura. I am but a duplicator. Plus you were way bigger than me and also you had the boas and everything. I just wear ripped up tights and have a goth look. Yeah that is original. We have seen people look like me in wrestling for many years now. Ventura smiles. Ventura: I see so as I understand you watched me for years? King nods before answering. King: Yes, I started to watch wrestling in 1992. I remember seeing you on some television but more of it was on tapes that my parents would rent for my brother and I. I throughouhly enjoyed It is an honor to be on your show tonight. Ventura nods and smirks at King's praises. Ventura: Thank you Mike. Tell me your story, how did you know you wanted to be wrestling for a living? King sighes knowing it is a long story. King: You are asking me to talk about a long story. I was 16, I realized it was what I wanted to do. I've gone to many shows as a kid, just about two every year. I wanted to be a wrestler, I found a school and I started training in June 2004 by May 2005 I was ready for my first match and I joined WIF I left in 2008 to join CZW because my half-brother Tim Timmons was wrestling there from the beginning. WIF was going down while Brian Blaze, myself and Desire joined CZW. Ventura's interest peaks at the name drop of Desire. Ventura: What happened to Desire? King gulps knowing he was a friend. King: Desire was a friend with mine who tried to join CZW with me. However he didn't work out in the tryout match we had and he never returned to CZW while Brian and I became mainstays in CZW. Ventura notices the conviction in his voice. Ventura: Ah, I hate when that happens. King: Me too, especially when it comes to a friend. This is why I have always never been fond of the glass ceiling that exists in professional wrestling companies. Ventura continues to notice the conviction King is speaking with. Ventura: Tell me about it. King clinches his fist. King: Yeah you see it today, you don't see westlers get higher spots or if they do the fans don't buy into it. I know that it exists to prevent guys from being in the main event too fast too soon but when you have talented wrestlers held back, it is an announace. The only thing that annoys me more is people that have the potential to be something more but they don't allow it. Cole Williams was one of those men. I fought to keep him around but he was not mentally into it. King opens his fist and Ventura smirks. Ventura: I know from experience how hard this is. Now I know from watching CZW, it is a lot different than anything I have ever been apart of. King smirks. King: Yeah, there a lot of ultra-violent parts to it. Venura chuckles a little before containing himself. Ventura: Yeah like the Greenhouse match. How do you do that? King lets go a snicker. King: I wonder that myself and I wrestled in that match twice. Ventura points at King. Ventura: But you don't seem like a guy that would himself through those hardcore wars and yet you did. Ventura lowers his finger and King shrugs before continuing. King: I know, if you look at my style now, you would not expect it but I was doing these style of matches at one point. I am not shying around that. It was a part of my career. My wars with Daemon in Ladder matches, Caged Super-X matches and our epic Dog Collar match, my barbedwire Thunderdome match with Johnny Wildfire, my feud with Tim Timmons in 2008 and even last year with my last man standing match with Xavier Reed. Who knows whens or if I will be in that style of match agian. Don't get me wrong, I am not against going back to doing more ultra-violent stuff but it is something that right now I am not focusing on. Right now I am focusing on being the best technical wrestler in the world and so far not many people can disagree with that. Ventura nods and smiles at King. Ventura: I agree, you are one of the best wrestlers out there. King smiles at the praises of Ventura. King: Thank you very much Mr. Ventura. Ventura looks at King Ventura: So if say you get your hands on Alan Fiscus or Ryan Shane you are willing to step into another Greenhouse Match. King chuckles. King: Maybe not a Greenhouse Match I have an 0-2 record in those. Ventura joins in King's chuckles. King: But I would be open to like say a Riot Match, or a barbed wire match. Ventura stops chuckling and tries to get back on topic. Ventura: So CZW return in May and you have been a part of it since just about the beginning. King nods. King: Yeah sadly I was injured rather early on and I could not show up in the ring until a few shows in. I had a pre-show exhibition match to display my new style, the style that I learned in the time that I have not been apart of the CZW. My first match was against Sebastian Lee and I embarassed him so bad he has not returned since that beating. And I am looking to reclaim the glory and make sure that the future of wrestling is heard. I am the Intercontinental Champion and I will defend it against all comers. New guys, main eventers and men like Joshua Newsome that deserve a chance but the glass ceiling holds them back from doing so. Ventura raises his finger knowing King made an opening. Ventura: That is interesting that you bring up the Intercontinental title because you are not the champion yet. King sits up trying to show strength and belief in his beliefs. King: I am the Intercontinental Champion. This coming Monday at Horrorcore in Toronto, Ontario's Ted Reeve Arena I have my first defense. After being handed my title because the little decision match to determine my opponent at Horrorcore never happened. Ventura's looks show he disagrees with King. Ventura: What do you mean, you were never handed the title. King's demeanor shows he is not backing down. King: You know I should have been. You know that in the bylaws of CZW it says so. This happened a few times in your career as a wrestler and commentator. In tournaments if a match ends in a no-contest such as drawm double-pin, double countout, or double disqualification. Maynard O'Toole and Satoshi Kobayashi no-showed and to me that means that they both forfeited the match which would have given me the title. Ventura nods in agreement. Ventura: If the match occurred, the match didn't even happen. King smiles at Ventura's agreement. King: There have been times that because of this matches in tournaments did not happened and bye occur. If a bye occurs in one of the semi-finals, the other finalist has historically be awarded the tournament and the prizes that go with it. For me, for this time, it is the CZW Intercontinental title. Ventura's agreement stops and he has his index finger up again. Ventura: They had travel issues. Don't you pay attention to the commentary by Jared Daniels and William Masters? King tries to hold back a snicker. King: I do but I should be champion none the less. The CZW bylaws says so. The problem is Derek Damage does not want to believe it. Ventura lowers his finger trying to about this in a different way. Ventura: With Kobayashi being Japanese, wouldn't that make it harder for him to travel? King shakes his head no. King: So I was in West Miflin, Pennsylvania that day and there was a hailstorm. I was nearly late getting there but I got there. Kobayashi relocated to America for his chance but he wasn't there. Neither Kobayashi nor O'Toole sent notification before hand. I don't know who deals for O'Toole, I know Reece Evans is Kobayashi's handler. After seeing Reece's handling of this situation, he shouldn't be. I stand here undefeated since my return to CZW. No man has been able to beat me. No Man has pinned me, made me submit or made me pass out. I am not about to let that change now. For the first time since my return I am going to be a part of a triple threat match. Just like the only other I was on the losing end, I do not have to actually lose the match. A disadvantage that I always hated as champion. Ventura is getting enraged. Ventura: C'mon King. Didn't you win the Intercontinental title that way? King looks at Ventura with conviction in his face. King: I do not like the way I won it every morning that I wake up. I wanted to beat my brother, Brian Kirkland for it. I wanted to pin his shoulders to the mat but sadly I didn't. Instead I beat Kimo Newton with my KING Combo, the same time as Brian pinned Alex Kaelin. However the referee saw my pin first and counted that instead of Brian's. Ventura nods. Ventura: That is true and that is fair. King still has conviction in his face. King: That is the thing people do not realize about the situation. It is something I thought about everyday after that match for a long time. Brian had Kaelin beat, I had Kimo beat and the ref could have seen either pin first. It could have given me the title or it would have been a second failed attempt at the title. Ventura looks like he wants to change the topic. Ventura: Now let's talk about that match. Let's talk about your opponents but first you did a few mock campaign ads for this. King nods. King: We did, I was tired of some of these attack ads. We all face this but if you turn on a local news station, you will likely hit two to four political ads most of which are attack ads and often are the same ads time after time. So I decided to make two mock attack ads and posted them to my youtube page. I figured if CZW does not think this is an important match, I will make it an important match. There is no reason at this point the Intercontinental title should be behind the tag team titles. Both divisions are if anything, equals right now. Ventura points to the screen. Ventura: This is the one for Maynard O'Toole. The Maynard O'Toole video plays. Voice-over: This is Maynard O'Toole. He is a former CZW Intercontinental Champion. He hasn't appeared since 2010. While CZW was closed, he did not do anything. While others worked and perfected their skills around the world against world class talent, O'Toole sat at home. After being inactive for two years, is he ready to be a champion again? We'll find out at Horrorcore. The scene switches bad to Ventura and King in the studio. Ventura: I must say that was good, O'Toole was not there for a good chunk of time after he lost the title until now. King raises his finger. King: Which to be fair CZW was gone so maybe he just decided to stop. What I decided to do was cover that up, just like politicians usually do. Venutra chuckles at the comment. Ventura: Tell me about it, I did it during my political days. King nods in agreement. King: Exactly. I put aside the fact that CZW was gone during a good chunk of time and just poke at the fact we cannot trust him if he has not been around for a while. I've lost to him twice in the past but I am not the same wrestler anymore. I have gone back and re-learned submission moves and really made it more of a chain style that you do not see anymore. A forgotten style to match a forgotten wrestler marred by the glass ceiling. Ventura nods. Ventura: It is a forgotten style. King smirks. King: And it gives me an edge I need to fight O'Toole. O'Toole at his best is the hardest challenger I have ever faced in the ring bar none. Forget my wars with Daemon, Big Evil, Ryan Shane and Xavier Reid, O'Toole is the toughest challenge I have faced. I am not sure what condition he will be in for our match but I hope he is in as good of shape as he has been in when he previously was in CZW. I know the shape I will be in but who knows O'Toole's. No one has seen O'Toole since he left CZW the last time. Ventura nods and points at the screen again. Ventura: We'll see Monday. Let's check out the Kobayashi video. Kobayashi's video starts. Voice-over: This is Satoshi Kobayashi but you would not remember him. He's Japanese and claimed to come to America for a chance. But since debuting in Combat Zone Wrestling he has only wrestled one match. He lost that match and has not been seen since. But yet he got a chance to fight for the Intercontinental title. Does make any sense to you? The scene switches back to King and Ventura. Venutra: It was harder to do a video on Kobayashi. King shrugs. King: It was. I knew Kobayashi from some Japanese wrestling and he is a good wrestler but I will say that I have faced off with a bunch of wrestlers who were similar to him. Both in Japan and America. I am often the smaller guy in the fight but I always make no mistake and bring that fight. Ventura nods before continuing. Ventura: So what about the comments of him being in-expreienced, doesn't that go against the glass ceiling you talk about? King shakes his head before responding. King: Kobayashi is an interesting story. He has had one actual match in CZW and he lost. He lost to a smaller guy like me in Jason X. You look at it, he is getting a shot at a title he didn't nessicarily prove he could fight for. This isn't what I was talking about. What I am talking about is giving someone who deserves a shot the shot. Kobayashi does not deserve the chance. He has only wrestled one match and lost, his next match, he no-shows. Ventura raises his index finger. Ventura: But he has done something. King shrugs. King: Yeah he has made an impact. All he did in CZW was take out Jacob Havok. He "took" out a former partner. We have seen a lot of people do that kind of stuff. I turned on Tim Timmons, Ryan Shane has turned on Brian and myself, there have been tons. Ventura has a dismissive chuckle Ventura: I have seen too many of that in my career. King nods. King: Exactly. Kobayashi is a pawn. Reece Evans is the puppet master and pawns have always fallen. Because of that, he didn't put Havok away for the long-term. Havok will return at some point I know it. I say this because Mr. Killjoy dropped a crate on him in 2009 and Havok returned from that. If Havok could return from that, he can return from anything. Ventura nods in agreement. Ventura: I agree, Jacob Havok is a tough individual. He sounds like he is a personal friend to you. King looks at Ventura with conviction. King: He is. I must admit that he is. I really got to know him when he joined Youthful Agression. Ventura raises his index finger again. Ventura: Now there is a third video I would like to talk about. King looks shocked not knowing what Ventura is talking about. King: Which video are you talking about. Ventura looks sure of himself. Ventura: The 47% of wrestlers are jokes video. What was the situation for that? King's guard lowers as he knows how to answer that question. King: I was looking at wrestlers like a few that I trained, Chris Tolwar and La Diva Gaga and they are more known for their personas and not actually the their in ring. They are considered jokes rather than talented wrestlers. Despite what I say with with him being garbage and I want nothing to do with him, he truly is a talented wrestler and I am proud to say I trained him. Ventura looks at King not sure he believes it. Ventura: Why did you say that comment? King looks at Ventura with conviction. King: The 47% comment is not as true as one would think. See you have garbage wrestlers like a Gaga, a Tolwar and a Cole Williams. You then have guys who are looking to fight to take time to learn the craft to get better like the entire CZW roster, most of the WIF talent I've know and even the guys in CEW. The majority of wrestlers fall into this category but the situation may cause them. This includes not being able to show they are more than a joke or those that feel that he promotion is a joke so why should they care. Ventura looks at King with a question in his face. Ventura: So you mean that there are people that become a joke because they take the promotion lightly. King nods before answering. King: Well when you look at men like Edward Croft and Kimo Newton. They both have talent but they never took the promotions they were in seriously and ended up saddling themselves as jokes. Now they are pirrahs. Maybe they did this to themselves, maybe not but now there are seeral places where they will never be caught returning to. CZW is one of these places because they burned their bridges. Have I burned bridges, yes. Have I took my ball and went home, yes. But I have come to terms with it and tried to put that aside. CZW is the most important federation I have been a part of and that is why I returned to it after it returned. This is why I will win the CZW Intercontinental title. Ventura nods wanting to change the topic. Ventura: What do you say about the current politics of the nation? King looks somewhat annoyed at talking politics. King: I am not going to name names but of the two views of the candidates, I feel only one has a true sense of what it takes to get America back on track. Both are very vague on what they will exactly do but only one has singled out what we need. We need small businesses. CZW has 31 men and women on its roster, maybe another 10 managers and valets, another 15 who are backstage workers and maybe another 10 who are production crew such as camera operators. That is 66 people which puts CZW in an interesting position where we are a small business as America looks at 250 employees and under as a small business. I know America needs small businesses to start-up and right now we are not trying to do anything to help create these firms to create more jobs. I does not help when you have a very public figure saying the middle class is burried. We are, we know that. College students aren't getting chances for jobs as easy and people have lost their middle or higher wage jobs and have to settle for the lower income jobs. Ventura smiles at King. Ventura: You speak well and you certainly have a vision for the country. have you ever thought about a career in politics? King shakes his head no befoore continuing. King: First off, thank you for your kind words. Second off, yes I have thought about it but I do not. I would be the person people would want in office to get things done but I would be the one to screw things up on quote. Too many politicians have an issue today of what they say. Whether it was making a comment about if say rape is legitimate or not, the middle-class being crushed by the policies of your party, a subset of a population you are surviving as politician as being victims, lies such as I will be a one-term politician if I cannot get things done or saying that a big yellow bird, a grouch, a red monster and their handlers, should be looking for a job after I cut funding to public broadcasting. Ventura smiles at King. Ventura: It is tough out there for politicians. King nods at Ventura's commentary. King: They have to walk a tight line, particularly with the wide open youtube ready culture we have. The minute any clip is on youtube, you cannot take it back. You either apologize and move on and be accused of dodging the issues or you double-down. there is really no middle ground. Ventura nods as if being motioned to wrap it up. Ventura: I know that more than anyone. Mike, it's been a pleasure having you on. Ventura offers his hand to King. King: It's been a pleasure, thank you for having me tonight. King accepts Ventura's hand shakes it before Ventura speaks again. Ventura: When we return, We are going to talk some politics both sides will be here. The scene cuts with Ventura as the main focus. |
