(Video Montage: First shows a backhoe digging a hole. Next, we see a road crew with a jackhammer. Third, we see a production line at a cannery. Finally, the video shows a dump truck driving off a construction site carrying a heavy load in the back.) Voiceover: "Since getting out of the US Army, I've worked mostly for factories to make a living. You know, hourly wage, working to survive, doing what needs to be done, all that kind of thing. I've always loved wrestling, particularly The Steiner boys from my home state of Michigan. Five years ago, if someone had told me I would be a Pro-Wrestler, I would have laughed and made a joke about being the next Hogan. It was something I watched on TV, not dreamed about doing for real. (Video changes to a chubby man helping to set up a wrestling ring in a small dance hall, helping to lift a heavy bar into place while another man uses a wrench to tighten a bolt down.) "Then a very small indy promotion and wrestling school opened in my home town, and I decided to go for it!" (Video shows the same man in blue jeans and a dark blue pocket T-shirt wrestling in front of a small audience of less than 100. He slams a masked wrestler, then climbs to the top rope and jumps off, hitting with an elbow drop.) "So I trained hard and worked harder. As often as my schedule allowed, I was at that gym training. By pulling double duty as camera man and commentator while still in training, I was given open access to the gym room whenever I needed. With my body type, I have to train regularly to stay fit." (Video shows same man, now in dark blue work pants and a lighter blue, button down work shirt superplexing another man off the top rope and getting a pinfall. This is in front of a much larger crowd, and the fans watching the show are obviously on the chubby man's side.) "I've wrestled mostly in Michigan with a few forays into Indiana and Ohio, and I've won a few titles, but outside of my home territory, few fans have even heard of me. You have to be a really big wrestling fan, reading all of the magazines and hunting promotions down on the internet to have ever heard of or seen a picture of me. Yet, in my home town, a lot of people know me now." (Video looks on a worksite where a building is under construction. The same man drives into camera shot on a Hi-Lo lift truck. He stops, turns the truck off, steps down to the ground, and faces the camera.) "I still plan on wrestling regularly in Michigan, but I need more. I just can't be the local hero for my entire career. I'll never know how good I can be unless I take on better opponents. I don't want to look back at my life and career and wonder if I could have done it, if I could have ever been champion of a National, or international promotion." "It's time for me to step up to a new stage, a bigger stage. The National stage. It's time for all of America's wrestling fans to know who I am. I am The Working Man J.A. Sawyer, and I want to be the first Combat Zone Champion. It's time to go to work, end of story!" (Video fades to black) |
