Luckily, the ship's lifeboat with her 4 oars makes landing ashore a simple task. The sandy beach is nearly empty but the remains of old tanning chairs and some sort of wooden building litter it. beyond the narrow strip of sand, stairs lead up to a concrete promenade. If any doubts remained, a large sign in five languages welcomes people to Frishman Beach, Tel-Aviv.

Walking up the stairs the group finds itself at the edge of a 4-lane road, empty and in some disrepair, with weeds coming through the cracks in asphalt. On the other side, high risers, hotels and restaurants are all abandoned. There are no people but lots of litter, from cars to equipment to most anything. A large sign indentifies your location as being in Lahat Promenade, Built in Circa 1982.

It takes less than five minutes since they got onto the promenade and until the group finds the first corpse. The smell of decay attracts the group to the corpse of a man that looks about two weeks dead. He has been shot in the head. Surprisingly, no carrion birds seem to have touched the corpse. He is dressed in tattered remains and nobody has any particular desire to go through his clothing and look for ID or anything.

"I can't stay here!" an aging, bald man called Irv says in a tremulous voice, "I can't! I want out! I want out of the game! That's not what I signed up for!"

"This isn't the game you idiot," the Russian guy, Vladimir, says, "somehow the strange storm took us forward in time, or to a parallel dimension. This is… real".

"No!" Irv says in growing hysteria, "no! I want to go back to my daughter Beth and my wife! I have a life!"

"We oo had a loof," a woman called Jasmine snaps at him. She's a pretty black lady, about 30 years old, from the bayou in Louisiana. Her accent is hard to follow. "Me ain' gon back ta ma hoom onna watta no mo and me ain' need ya puta sol on them wounds!"

"we're all going to die!" Erin wails. Tears running down her face and her nose dribling "we'r in some terorist incamed contery were they hate americans and i can't watch my baby grow up." She sobing and walking anlessly in curcles. Her last nerv fried after a week of poor sleep from nervs about leaving, a night of harsh seas clinging to something on a toy boat and now this. It was enough to make any one go over the deep end.

Jaydyn stepped off the boat and looked around. She could tell that this trip was not planned this way. She looked over at the nearly hysterical people that had also been chosen for this trip. "We should keep walking and see if there are any survivors," she said, stepping ahead of the group.

"I don't think there's a way home," Vladimir says. the Russian guy seems the most in control of himself from the men.

"Is the whole world dead?" someone asks in desperation.

"This man was shot less than a month ago," Vladimir answers, "someone is still alive, I am sure. I say we follow the lady," he points at Jaydyn.

As if to prove him right, there's a yelp from one of the guys in the group.
"There! I saw someone there" he points towards a hotel with a graying sign saying "Dan Hotel".

"hello?" he shouts, "is someone there?"

His voice reverberates around the dead city. A muffled cry sounds in response and the entire group starts off in that direction, hoping against hope to find someone alive. Entering street leading away from the beach, they run into an overturned IDF H-1 Humvee. By the rust and poor condition of the vehicle it's clear it must have been like this for years. Looking inside finds the skeletons of two men in the remains of olive-green IDF uniforms.

Snapping her head in the direction of the cry, Jaydyn turns her walk into a sprint towards the hotel. As they get close, she slows down, hoping the others will follow suit. "We have to be careful as well. You never know if they are going to be friendly or just trying to lure us into a trap."

"Shit," Irv says, "this isn't real! It cannot be! Somehow the production tricked us! We're on… a set or something!"

"yeah right," Someone says, "where are the cameras, Irv?"

"Grrrf" the sound of a man voice, something between a moan and a groan, "grrrf".

Everyone turns to see a man in tatters lurching towards them… his skin is grayish, his hair mottled… he looks… half dead.

"Oh my gawd!" someone says, "it's... a zombie!"

"grrrf" the slouching man mumbles. There's dark, old blood on his lips and his skin coloration is outworldly....

"I don't think he's just hungry," says Vladimir, "it is zombie, I think".

"Can you hear yourself?" Irv shouts. "it's not real! there are no such things as zombies! It's all a prank at our expense. Look!" he approaches the lurching man…

"I really don't think you should be doing that," warns someone.

"Nonsense!" Irv says hysterically, "it's all part of the show. The production-"
His hysterical speech turns into an incoherent speech when the zombie jumps him suddenly, sinking rotting teeth into his arm. Irv screams in sudden pain and terror. The zombie tears a chunk of flesh off his arm and pushes him down on the ground…

Then, there's a red dot dancing on the zombie's forehead and before anyone can comment on it, a loud shot booms around the dead city. The zombie's head snaps backwards and the top half disappears in a red mist… It falls, dead.

"What the hell do we have here?" a voice says, in English. The group turns to see a woman, armed to the teeth, holding to a smoking pistol with a red laser-dot sight attached to it.

"Right," the woman rolls her eyes, avoiding a handshake, "now I understand why you're all walking around here without weapons and screaming out loud to get all the zombies down on your heads... you're insane!"

"We are not insane," Vladimir says, "we were... thrown off in time, I think. Look at our clothes, listen to the language we speak... we are not from here".

"Ah, time travel," the woman laughs, "that makes things all so much more real... well, you can't stay here for long. You'll be zombie food!"

Jaydyn rolled her green eyes at the woman, pushing her raven black hair back from her face. "Don't patronize us, woman. We just landed in a messed up place with no clue as to what is going on or how we got here. A;; we know is what we signed up for, which isn't this," she says as her voice slowly gets louder. "Now unless you really want us to scramble around this place and bring all the zombies down on us as well as you, then I suggest you help us. At least give us a safe place to talk and figure out what the hell is going on."

The woman eyes Jaydyn with a more respectful look.
"You talk straight," she says, "I like that. Name's Ella. I'm a scavenger for the Coastal Republic of Freedom... most people just call us the Free Radicals. We're trying to maintain a land of peace and harmony and a little civility and freedom even in these dark days. If you care to follow me, I'll lead you to our stockade. Unlike some others, we'll provide for you simply because we believe in the sanctity of human life... however, before that, there's something that needs be done".

She approaches Irv, who's sitting and trying to stop the bleeding from the bite wound on his arm.
"Flesh's going gray around the wound," she says, "you feeling weak? nauseous? Yes? You got the virus, man, and I ain't got no AVS injectors.... hate to be so direct but you're beyond salvation. If you want... I can make it quick and painless"

Irv looks at her with wide eyes.

"You can't do that," one of the group members objects, "you can't just kill him!"

"he's already dead," Ella snaps, "when that stuff gets in your blood you got an hour, two tops, before it breaks apart your nervous system. With the AV serum, you got a chance to survive but I ain't got any and we're too far from the stockade to get him some in time."

"I want out," Irv whines, "I didn't sign up for this. I wanna go home!"

"I'll send you home," Ella says in a sudden, surprising show of gentleness. she turns away from the man, using her body to mask her actions. she pulls an elongated knife out of a sheath at her hip, whirls around in a flash... and Irv's head is rolling off his neck. the man is dead before his body touches the ground.

"Good idea," Ella says, "you," she points at Dez, "think you can carry that woman? we can't wait for her to wake up".

Dez nods quietly, shouldering Erin like she was a sack of beets... and with the same ease.

Click here for a map of Tel-Aviv

Ella leads the team through the wide Frischmann street, setting a brisk pace. Twice she signals a stop, surveying the scene ahead of her alertly, but in both cases she shrugs and gestures with her head to continue. If someone tries to speak she hisses, "Save your breath! There'll be time for talking later".

It is clear that Tel-Aviv has been a tourist-oriented city. Nearly every sign on every store is in two languages at least. Stores concentrate on beachwear, fashion, memorabilia. Names are somewhat more difficult to get the head around. Shmulik's Israeli Merchandise, Yossi Flowers, Yafa Fashion and so on. Hotels rise above the group on both sides.

The streets must have been a battlefield in the last days of civilization. Not a single storefront looks undamaged. Looters availed themselves to whatever they wanted… in the fore of a store called Kiosk Zvulun, very old skeleton lies underneath a decrepit noose, as if looters hung the store owner when tried to protect his goods. There are remains of military vehicles on the road – Hummers, larger Rio trucks… but anything that could be scavenged or driven off has been stripped away already.

Coming on a large intersection, Ella curses under her breath. She turns the group into a wide street identified by road signs as "Dizengoff Street". A large theatre-like building towers on the right, with a yellowing sign identifying it as "Bet Lessin – House of the Arts".

The ungodly moans and growls of zombies are rising behind them.
"Shit!" Ella says, "you lot, listen up. Hurry up down this road till you reach a large mall called Dizengoff Center. If you can make it in…" she looks at her wrist watch, "oh, twelve minutes or so, you should find someone there to save you. Otherwise… well… if you miss the ride, continue down Dizengoff street even after it becomes Kaplan street. Keep going until you reach the high walls, a place that looks like a fortress. Tell 'em Ella sent you. Now go! I'll hold them off!"

She unslings the submachinegun she carries on her side, lights a cigarette and cocks the gun. "GO!" she orders.

hurrying down the road, the group advances at a fair running pace. None of the people chosen for the show is especially obese or in too poor a shape which right now stands between them and being eaten. Behind them, the sound of gunfire erupts, extremely loud as it reverberates on the high-risers around them... after about five minutes of running, the group arrives at a large square which the road passes right under. A sign identifies it as Zina Square. The ruined remains of a strange fountain can be seen even from below. (see picture here) The group runs under the square, to emerge on the other side and continue onwards towards a large mall that's already visible two blocks ahead. in another two minutes the group makes it past a large intersection and towards the mall itself. The Mall is stationed on both sides of Dizengoff street, rising six stories high with a double-decker overpass over the road (Picture here. In the city's hayday, it must have been the very center of town and probably one of the most popular places to go out to. Now the doors are barricaded, some outright blocked. The group can seen men with guns looking down at them from the overpass. A bus that seems to have been converted into a tank, with metal plates and gun slits reinforcing its windows, is standing beyond the overpass with three armed men next to it. one of them shouts something but it's in hebrew and makes no sense. seeing that none of them understands, he raises his hand, gesturing at them to come over.

they reach the armed men by the bus, who look at them with avid curiosity. their leader, a fatty man in his fifties with a shaggy mustache speaks again, in hebrew.

"English?" Dez tries.

the man shakes his head. "Eh," Vladimir says, "Paruski?"

"Da!" the fat man says and launches into a feverish monolgue in Russian. Vladimir listens and then answers in teh same language. The only word that seems to make sense is "Ella" which is dropped at least three times in the conversation.

"Da da!" the fat man smiles. He gestures at the bus, speaking to Vlad.

"He says," Vlad translates, "get on the bus, we are leaving soon. Not safe to wait for zombies"

The bus must have doubled its weight with all the armor plating on it. the windows have been turned into inaccessible firing slits, the front of the bus is armed with an array of vicious looking ram-spikes, probably designed to take down anything small than a car standing int he bus's way. In the back, crates are stashed, suggesting the Bus has been turned into a trading van or something along those lines.

The bus rumbles down what was once a wide street. Back in the day, it seemed like the Tel Aviv city hall was trying to pretty up the street by planting Ficus trees. Now, with no one to keep their growth in check the once-orderly set of trees is literally raising the road and pavement with its massive roots. Nature is already beginning to claim back what asphalt and concrete seemed to steal from it.

The armored bus ambles along with protests from its engine. It seems like it could use a mechanic's touch rather urgently. Through the firing slits, they can the occasional zombie but not many. Some lurch after the bus but at 10 Miles per hour, it's too fast for them. After a few minutes, they reach "The Fortress".

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that this was a military base – in the heart of the city! Thick, tall reinforced concrete walls surround the place, with razor-wire above them. Guard posts can be seen looking over the walls, like olden day castle turrets. In the center of the compound, a strange tower with an array of antennae rises into the sky like a jutting finger. Click for image

The bus reaches what was once the main entrance – now fortified with a heavy wooden gate, with two men armed with automatic rifles standing at each side and a machinegun nest overlooking it. The heavy wooden gate slides open for the bus and closes immediately after it passes. These people aren't taking any risks.

The bus comes to a halt in a parking lot.
"Ok," the driver says through the translation of Vlad, "I'm going to need two of you to come with me to see the leader... the rest of you will wait here"

"We'll go," Dez says, pointing at him and Erin, "right?"

They walk down from the bus then follow a silent man into the tower building. After a couple of turns they find themselves in a large office, facing a fat man in jeans and T-shirt. "Sit," he says, "please".

"We were hoping you could tell us," Dez says softly, "last thing we knew, we were going into a storm, then the morning after we were on the shores of Tel-Aviv... this morning".

"Damn," the fat man says, "well, let me introduce myself. My name is Benyamin. You can call me Benny, everyone else does. I'm the spokesman for the Free Radicals of Tel-Aviv. don't let the name fool you, we're not really radicals, except for our belief that even in these troubled times people should be free to make their own choices."

That would be us, or the Kibbs, or one of the two religious nuts factions in the east"

"We're not really sure," Benny shrugs, "it was a plague, started all over the world at once. Must have been something man-made because i don't think nature would ever design something like it. Most people who got infected just died. They were the lucky ones. In some, the virus is not deadly. It forces a genetic mutation on your body... your cerebral upper cortex - the part of the brain that deals with all high brain functions - basically stops working and you become like an animal, acting on needs and instincts... that's the zombies. For a select few the mutation is actually beneficial... but they are very rare".

"You know he may have survived," Dez says softly after he finishes explaining the situation to the group, "he may just be alive and well right now"..

a couple of locals come out to the parking lot and gestures them to follow. The group follows into what looks like a large dining hall, where a set of VR goggles have been placed on the table. One by one the group approaches the table. When it is Erin's turn, the man sitting by the table looks at her in boredom.
"Yes?" he asks, "which weapon class do you want to take?

Erin joins the others as they walk back to the parking lot, crossing it and heading to a round dome-like building. The fat man, Benny, is standing by a heavy metal door and as they approach he opens it.
"Come on in," he says.

Clearly, the paranoid Israelies were getting to field an entire army with the euipment stored in this large bunker. the above-ground level is full of crates of essential supplies - mostly food preserves - but Benny leads them down stairs into an underground level where rows and rows of weapons crates seem to go on forever. Weapons, still wrapped in nylons, in pristine condition, are everywhere.
"Find a crate of your weapon of choice and take one," Benny instructs.

in a crate that says "Rifles, 7.62 MM" Erin finds a real find - an M-14 rifle, old tech but very effective and very reliable and she knows, in the back of her head, that it is also extremely accurate. Without thinking she picks up a couple of 10 Round clips for the rifle before returning to Benny.

Posted Image

M-14 (M25 Special variant)

Type: Rifle
Ammo: 10 X 7.62 Bullets
Firing Modes: Single Shot

Difficulty: 2

Upgrades: M6 Bayonet. Sniper Scope.
Additional info: -2 From target's fortitude/armor rolls. -1 Modifier if target is below 5 Yards distance. Firing takes 2 actions.

"nice choice" Benny says, "how'd you know where to find it?"

He smiles. "turn around... look at that crate again".

She turns around and really looks at the crate. it says "רובים 7.62 מ"מ". In her mind the words are becoming translated.... "ro-vim".... "rifles".... then she thinks of what Benny said, "tistovevi.... tistakli a'al ha argaz o'd pa'am".

"That insta-course also included basic hebrew" Benny explains, "we figured you could use that. Go find yourself an ammo box for the clips".

She quickly locates a box of 7.62 MM bullets. Although she never did that before her hands deftly push the bullets into the clips, stuffing them with ten bullets each. she has an M-14 and 20 bullets for it.

"Ah-huh" he says softly.

"Ok," Benny says as everyone gathers around with, "Now that you all have your own guns, here's the deal. We would appreciate if you helped us with some issues. If you're more interested in working with the Kibbs though, or in getting a ride off to Jerusalem to join the religious zealots there, you might want to go outside and speak to Amos, the guy standing by the truck in the parking lot."

Power To the People

A side quest

The Redding Power station in northern Tel-Aviv provides electricity for both the Free Radicals and the Dizengoffs. Recently a main power junction has broken down for reasons unknown. Head over to the power junction and repair it to restore power to The Fortress. The Free Rads may also appreciate it if you sabotage the power supply to Dizengoff Center Mall so as to draw some of the people from there back to the Fortress.

Objective One: Repair the damaged power junction. – Go to the Rabin Square in northern Tel Aviv, find the main power junction and restore it to work. Be warned: the area is said to be infested with at least 4-5 zombies.

Objective Two (Optional): Sabotage the power supply to Dizengoff Center Mall – Power from the Redding power station flows to the mall and the snobbish Dizengoffs just as it flows to the Fortress. The Free Rads would like to see that stopped. Rerouting the small junction at the corner of Gordon and Dizengoff may just be enough to cut all power to the mall. Do this and you will receive the bonus reward

Standard Reward:
- 5 Points of Experience
- All the weapons and items you've received for the mission
- 250 Schnekels
- The Free Rads would appreciate your assistance.

Bonus reward:
- 2 extra points of Experience
- 3 Weapon upgrades
- The Free Rads would really appreciate you siding with them
- The Dizengoffs might appreciate you less if they find out

Shipping and Handling

A side quest

Food is in demand and so are electronics. Though the game yacht, "New Horizons", was damaged, the stocks of food should still be edible and some equipment may be salvageable. Take the truck loaned to you by the Free Rads, head back to the beach, return to the yacht and fill up the truck with goodies.

Objective One: Retrieve food from the yacht – Take the modified truck back to Frischmann Beach and load it with food containers from the yacht. Little zombie presence is expected.

Objective Two (Optional): Scour the ship for equipment that is still usable – Something in the yacht might still be usable. Radios? Electronics? Even some weapons or high tech gadgets? Who knows. Find salvageable equipment and salvage it.

Objective Three: Sell your finds – Food in the unholy land is naturally limited and rather drab – in fact, you've seen way too many cans of beans and far too little of anything else lying around. There's going to be a demand for the fresh, good food you find on your yacht.
Sell it to the Free Rads for a moderate price
The Dizengoffs would be able to pay more but won't be half as appreciative of you for it.
The Kibbs merchant, Amos, would probably be able to get a better price out of the Free Rads. Have him as the middle man to gain appreciation with the Kibbs.

Standard Reward:
- 3 Points of Experience
- All the weapons and items you've received for the mission
- Schnekels

Bonus reward:
- 2 extra points of Experience
- Equipment that you can hold on to or sell.

Trips of the Trade

A side quest

The Kibbs merchant, Amos, reports that he ran into a small band of raiders in an overpass above Highway One. Go there and eliminate the raider presence to make the road safe again

Objective One: Make your way to Highway One and find the La-Guardia Overpass – Highway One passes through Tel Aviv just east of the Fortress. Make your way there and down into it, then head south until you find the La-Guardia overpass. Zombie presence on your route is possible but not likely.

Objective Two: Get rid of the Raiders lurking in the La-Guardia overpass – Amos says there's probably only two or three Raiders in the nest there and believes their weapons are in poor condition, which would explain the little damage they managed to cause to his caravan. Eliminate the threat in any way you see fit. Any loot you may find is yours.

Standard Reward:
- 4 Points of Experience
- All the weapons and items you've received for the mission
- 250 Schnekels
- The Kibbs would be impressed with your abilities

Supply and Demand

A side quest

Getting equipped by the Free Rads exposed the vast stocks of weapons and ammo in Mint condition that they have. Amos, the Kibb merchant, would like you to… procure… a few crates. He'd pay well. If you could find a way to get in undetected and steal a few crates, the Kibbs are bound to like you. So long as you don't get caught Free Rads may not even realize anything is missing from their huge arsenal.

Objective One: Find a way to get into the underground weapon cache – Three possible courses of action are available here. Amos believes there's a backdoor to the cache that is unguarded. Wiggle the secret out of a Free Rad and use the backdoor to quickly smuggle a few crates. Otherwise, wait until night fall and lure the lone guard away from the main entrance. A third option is to use a silenced weapon that Amos will provide to kill the guard and dispose of his body. Be aware that this course of action increases the chances that the Free Rads would eventually find out about your theft (but not in the immediate future).

Objective Two: Steal crates of weapons and ammo – Each crate you steal makes for more gains and Amos would pay well if you provide a varied selection of merchandise. However, naturally, each crate you steal increases the risk that your theft would eventually be discovered by the Free Rads.

Standard Reward:
- 3 Points of Experience
- A single item from each stolen crate
- 250 Schnekels per stolen crate

Bonus reward:
- Bait and Switch or Switchblade: +2 Experience points if you lure or kill the guard.
