The Person of Mass Destruction
Daniella: *sighs and leans against a nearby pillar, toying with her skirt as she points out,* Monsieur Avenier, I am beginning to believe you enjoy torturing me. Why else approach in the middle of the day? *As she glances teasingly around the corridor, seeking out Apollo too.*

Darrell: And I am beginning to think you only appreciate my company under certain circumstances, mademoiselle. *smiles* And as I recall, you enjoy it.

Apollo: *has spotted them both, and after a moment, quietly excuses himself from the conversation he's been having with Athena, making his way over to them & catching Darrell's response. replies, with a grin,* Maybe it is only under certain circumstances -- my presence might be a requirement.

Daniella: A requirement? *She echoes teasing, letting her skirt drop and lifting her hand to toy with her necklace instead.* Why, my lords, surely you would not want to be so presumptuous as to make such demands of me. *Nods at Darrell, the corner of her mouth perking up,* Not in public, at least, particularly if my memory needs refreshing on what I enjoy.

Darrell: *Smiles wider as Apollo approaches, but manages to pass it off as courteous as he inclines his head in a greeting, knowing that someone was always watching in these halls.* Forgive me, my lady, you're right. I forget myself. But my lord is not incorrect- *his eyes flick to Apollo* his presence brightens the room.

Apollo: Apologies, my lady, *he says, the movement of her hand and the glint of the jewels at her neck catching his attention, dragging his eyeline a little lower than appropriate* If you're adverse to my making demands of you, I could cease altogether. *grins at Darrell's statement* That's high praise, my lord. Though I'm generally not the one here who catches most of the room's attention. *Both Darrell & Daniella had their fair amount of admirers, and Apollo alternated between pride & jealousy on that particular fact*

Daniella: *She waves off in benign acceptance while smiling to show no actual apologies were necessary. Or maybe to show 'you'll make it up to me later.'* Adverse is...a strong word. *diplomatically, as they are passed by a certain set of courtiers,* Surely you must be talking about our own Queen of course, whoever could outshine her? *Daniella glanced between them both, despite the presence of that very queen none too far away.*

Darrell: *He nods at Dani's answer. impressed and pleased at er level of tact given how often she was prone to doing what she wanted. Apollo was no better (or maybe more accurately no worse.)* How does that expression go in English- haven't the foggiest? *Chuckles, but does take half a step away from Apollo and Dani at the mention of the queen* I had no one else in mind, did you my lord?

Apollo: *in the too-often moments where politesse and the truth conflicted, Apollo always went with the latter.* Her Majesty is quite lovely, of course, though not who I had in mind. *he at least had the good sense speak somewhat quietly so as to reduce the risk of being overheard*

Daniella: *Her eyes drop to his feet as she notes the step Darrell took back, if only for a moment. It was hard to say whether the flare in her chest was the fact it bothered her or gave her a thrill at the continued forbidden nature of their...Recent engagements.* Then perhaps we best let this topic lie, lest we risk naming one aloud. * She drops her hand now, behind her skirt as she grins.* Monsieur Avenier, I trust your business at court has been going well? Is there...Anything myself or Apollo could do to assist you?

Darrell: *His smile of enjoyment was subdued but present. He always found it remarkable how Apollo never shied away from the truth. Remarkable and appealing, frankly, given how much deceit was involved in his day to day.* It has, my lady, thank you for asking. I am but one voice, yet I speak for dozens, hundreds. I only hope to do good, and to do right. Your support *he nods at Dani and Apollo* has been of great comfort.

Apollo: *he notes Dani's quick glance down & instinctively takes a step closer to her, listening to Darrell's response* A lovely speech, my lord. I'm sure I can speak for myself and my lady when I say we're happy to do what we can. *pauses before adding* Of course, if there's anything else I could do to give you ... great comfort ... I'd be more than willing to oblige.

Daniella: *Great comfort. Well, she had to give the politician his props - even in stepping away, he had reassured her, though perhaps it was equally when Apollo came up to her side. She reached to take his arm, smiling first to him, then (with a bit of a challenge) to Darrell. This was more permissible; while there was no formal courtship going on, more people were already aware of her and Apollo. It was, by design, Darrell who had to be more careful.* You're a brilliant speaker and am eager servant of our populace, and your own kingdoms, milord. Yet I am glad to know we, *yeah, she said we purposefully,* have been able to comfort you.

Darrell: *It was at times like these that he was jealous of how outwardly Apollo and Daniella could be. But he knew that he shouldn't for the restrictions placed upon him were of his own making. Multiple partners was more acceptable in Egaligny, but not as easily received in Yei Tir. And even if it were, Darrell had enough to overcome -his low standing among the nobility, his family's use of a magic that was banned here and not in his home to name a couple- without adding a relationship scandal. He had no right to be upset, it was his choice. But he couldn't help how he felt.* You are both quite generous *his lips flick up with the double meaning* I thank you. And I'd ask what you had in my mind, my lord, but I'm afraid you'd answer me.

Apollo: *simply, with a grin* You're right; I would. *looks over at Dani, whose arm is now comfortably linked with his* My lady, might I suggest we discuss our support for Monsieur Avenier with him later? Privately, that is, and in detail.

Daniella: I'd help. *Her smile might as well have been glowing with how amused she was at this prospect. Of the many things the three of them were accomplished at, she had to admit there was an often un-heralded talent at their naughty, graphic, pillow talk. She could only suspect it was something one picked up when forced into innuendo, when both men before her were so preoccupied with honesty.

Turning as well, she lifted a hand and placed it on their joined elbows, squeezing in reassurance,* What a splendid idea, Apollo. Shall I bring visual aids, or merely tactile ones?

Darrell: *Even that smallest assertion that he knew Apollo familiarly stoked a warmth in his belly, one only exacerbated by his lovers' thinly veiled intentions. Darrell chuckled.* I leave the decision in your hands, of course. I am an avid listener and versatile learner either way.

Apollo: Well, I do like making the decisions. *only briefly contemplates Daniella's question before replying easily* Why choose when you could have both?

Daniella: You took the words out of my mouth Apollo. *She laughed, though there was a twitch in her eyes as if he'd stolen her punchline. That was okay though, she was glad on the other hand, to know that he knew her that well.* We'll need to set up in advance then. If we're going to put on a presentation.

Darrell: I'm aware. *He looked between Dani and Apollo, briefly wondering which one of them was the most assertive decision maker before realizing those thoughts were going to make it difficult to keep engaging in a casual conversation. Not that the pair of them were particularly dedicated to casual conversation to begin with.* While I admire your dedication to the process, I hope you're not suggesting on cutting our conversation short, mademoiselle, monsieur.

Apollo: I'm certainly not suggesting we cut our conversation short, my lord. No matter how dedicated to the process we may be. Besides, we don't see nearly enough of you as it is. *he kept the phrase light in tone, like the rest of the conversation, but it was as starkly honest as anything else he's said. There was a brief, brief window during which he found their secrecy exciting, but it had mostly closed, even if he did understand the necessity of it.* You're quite the busy man, monsieur.

Daniella: I concur. Perhaps we should speak of other...less formal matters. *She enjoyed her own phrasing nearly all the time, let her have her thing. Of course. Both men here did.* I hear we have visitors from the Kingdom to the north?

Darrell: The court life is a busy one. *Darrell agreed, but with a pang of guilt. He might have tried to made that apply to all of them (and it did) but he knew he was the one it was the most true for.* I have as well. With the most exciting news as well. Or alarming, depending on your perspective.

Apollo: I'd heard we had visitors but not the news they brought. Which would you consider it, *he asks them both,* exciting or alarming?

Daniella: Exciting. *She said at once, bemused at Darrell.* The Princess is pregnant, see, but some people in this castle think that may be some kind of demon child. *she shakes her head with a delicate little eye roll*

Darrell: *at the same time as Daniella* Alarming. *But he waits for Dani to explain herself first, knowing of her connection to both the D'Greys and Princess Stefanie.* It is not because I believe the princess is carrying a demon child. Egaligny and Vosmeya have had a contentious relationship for a long time. Egaligny always opposed this alliance and marriage and news of this pregnancy will owe stir back those unpleasant feelings.

Apollo: Demon child? *he asks, amused. He's aware of the controversy surrounding the D'Greys, but as far as he can tell, the term 'demon child' would be a hilarious over-reaction.* I think Daniella's opinion on the matter is quite clear. And yours, my lord? I'd think alliances like this would go a long way towards repairing relations between countries.

Daniella: Course they though the same thing about the marriage, and about the D'Greys themselves so, if the King of Yei Tir can get past the past connsidering there were always whispers that their father meant treason, why can't Egaligny? *But she shushes when Apollo asks Darrell specifically.*

Darrell: I cannot speak for my king, but, it is Yei Tir who is allied with Vosmeya through this marriage, not Egaligny. And due to it, if conflicts exacerbated between Egaligny and Vosmeya, Yei Tir would be in between. And I do mean that literally, it is geographically between the two countries and we share this island. It puts Yei Tir in a peacekeeping position but in my humble opinion it is not a role it has been committed to being.

Apollo: *considers both Dani's & Darrell's opinions on the matter, never having given it much thought himself.* Well, for now, Egaligny and Vosmeya aren't at war with each other, so peacekeeping doesn't seem to Yei Tir's current concern. Besides, it's not like the prince and princess could have -- or should have -- ceased their courtships for a conflict that might never come to pass. And Yei Tir doesn't seem so much like the potential peacemaker as it does a potential ally to Vosmeya ... so I suppose I can see why Egaligny might not be the biggest fans of the union.

Daniella: *She pops up from around the side of the pillar, then sighs through a chuckle.* Now why is it I can never seem to surprise you, Apollo?

Apollo: *laughs a little* Because I've got special powers, of course. I think the real question is why do you keep trying even though you know it's futile? *teasing* Too stubborn for your own good?

Daniella: *putting her hands on her skirt and puffs out to get hair out of her eyes* Absolutely. It's a real problem, at least according to my sister, but I consider it an asset.

Apollo: I'm sure it is, in most cases. Personally, I find it adorable. *He reaches over and tucks the offending strand of hair back behind her ear, fingertips brushing her cheek as he does so*

Daniella: *Ignoring the little shiver that always accompanied his touch trailing down her spine, she pointed out,* Adorable is just what I want to be called, of course. That is why I spend nearly all of my time inventing new ways to scandalize this court.

Apollo: Trust me, I'm positive the rest of the Court doesn't share my opinion. But wouldn't you rather I saw you differently than the rest of Court does?

Daniella: *she laughs and places his hand on her waist, shaking her head.* No, you're being truthful. You know I like the honesty. It's been rare enough in my life.

Apollo: *Smiling, he pulls her in just a bit closer, resting both hands on her waist* Well, at least someone around here appreciates it. Granted, no court is exactly known for its honesty.

Daniella: Mmm, and how many courts have you been too personally, lover?

Apollo: I've lived at three. Here, Oreiros where I came from, and a Greek court in Thessaly.

Daniella: *she smiles* I've never been to Oreiros. I did visit Egaligny frequently, but...*she offers a small shrug* And which is your favourite?

Apollo: I would recommend seeing it if you have the opportunity. *Pauses to consider her question* I was in a democratic city-state in Oreiros. I must confess I liked the government there better. Thessaly had a good ruler, probably my favorite. But I much prefer the people I've met here.

Daniella: *teasing, she sways slightly in his grasp* Must you? Ah, I know you like honesty as much as I, Apollo, * she raised one finger to begin tracing his cheek* but I wasn't demanding a confession if you believed such a thing would insult me.

Apollo: It's just that I know your family takes great pride in their monarchy, as they should. *He leans into her touch, fingers idly toying with the fabric of her dress.* Have I insulted you, my lady? Because if I had, I'd want to do whatever I could to make it up to you, *he replies, grinning*

Daniella: *She chuckles, going up on her toes and settling both arms around his neck as she reminds him in a teasing whisper,* I'm not a lady. But that is true, they do. So perhaps I could stand for a little reparation.

Amalie: *looks up from her newspaper, shakes her head and goes back to reading*

Apollo: You know, it would be a bit hypocritical if Amalie was the villain, given how devoted she is to uncovering any secrets she thinks someone might have.

Darrell: She's used to the dichotomy of uncovering secrets and keeping her own.

Amalie: Hmph, that was one time and what was I supposed to do? Speak out and call our king a liar? *shakes her head and then narrows her eyes at Apollo* But speaking of hypocrisy.

Apollo: Other than your 'dichotomy' I'm not sure what hypocrisy you're referring to.

Amalie: Are you not accusing me of potential hypocrisy over keeping secrets when that's all you seem to possess?

Darrell: *rubs his face* Sister, don't start this again.

Amalie: I never finished. You and Daniella might be content in ignorance, or simply used to the secrecy of court, but I am not. Apollo is-

Darrell: Not to be addressed or accused this way, Amalie. Can't you trust me?

Amalie: You, yes. Him?

Darrell: *groans* I regret ever telling you.

Amalie: *hmphs* As if you could keep it from me. You're barely keeping it from anybody else. Aren't you tired of the secrets? *looks at Apollo* Both of you?

Apollo: *to Darrell* I appreciate the defense, but it's unnecessary. *to Amalie* I do have some things I keep to myself, I'll give you that. But I think we're all entitled to some privacy. Besides, I'm not the one going around demanding other people tell me theirs. As far as Darrell, Daniella, and I are concerned? Yes, I get tired of the secrets, but I understand why it's been deemed necessary for the time being. Is that all, or are there any more accusations you have for me?

Amalie: *repeats* For the time being. *looks at Darrell* Do you think that too?

Darrell: *swallows and says nothing*

Amalie: *takes a few steps closer to Apollo without taking her eyes off* I demand only from you, because I am certain your secrets will find their way to harm my family. Can you assure me they will not?

Apollo: If there's one thing I've learned it's that nothing can be guaranteed. However, I do not believe anything I haven't told Daniella or your brother would put them or your family in any danger.

Amalie: Hmm. Belief. That certainly instills confidence. Then I hope for their sakes, and for yours, that is the truth. *she turns to give Darrell a kiss on the cheek and walks out, snatching her newspaper and taking it with her as she does*

Darrell: *exhales again, rubbing his temple* I would like to apologize, once again, for my sister's behavior.

Apollo: And I'd like to tell you, once again, that apologies are unnecessary. She's just looking out for you. Truth be told, I'd likely be the same way if my sister was with someone I didn't trust. *He moves to stand behind Darrell, bringing his hands up to gently massage the other man's shoulders* Just try and relax a little. You put too much pressure on yourself.

Darrell: But she trusts me, and I trust you. *he exhales, this time in relief as Apollo's hands work his shoulders* That should be enough. *He closes his eyes, trying to do as instructed but alas, relaxing wasn't in his nature* Only so I am never out of practice for when inevitably someone else does.

Apollo: I wish it were enough for her. But it is enough for me that you trust me. *Just shakes his head* You've had enough practice for the time being, *he says, finding a knot to work out as he speaks.* I don't know if you noticed, but we're alone now. No one left to try to impress. And I can think of much nicer ways to spend our evening.

Darrell: *lets out a soft groan he interrupts with a chuckle* No one left to try to impress but you, rather. *Smiles and turns to face Apollo* Please, enlighten me.

Apollo: And luckily for you, you've already impressed me. *When Darrell turns to face him, Apollo leans in to kiss him, soft and slow* I'd be more than happy to. Let's start with some wine. Then we can talk and you can tell me why you're so stressed. And then maybe I continue that massage -- the clothing-optional version.

Darrell: *The kiss was as relaxing as his hands, maybe even more so. He smiled again and chucked at the last* maybe continue? Tease. Wine does sound lovely.

Apollo: *grins* Well I have to keep you guessing just a -little- *No sooner had Darrell said it than Apollo conjured up a couple of glasses* Red or white?

Darrell: Goddesses forbid it be too easy, of course. *he winks and answers* Red, merci.

Apollo: *laughs* Oh, I think I've been easy enough thus far. *Having little to no impulse control when it came to Dani and Darrell contributed quite nicely to that.* Red it is. *Generally he at least pretended to make it look like he used some kind of yei-compatible magic. Today he didn't bother and let the glasses fill with red wine without any kind of word or gesture to indicate it. He handed one of the glasses to Darrell and raised the other* To relaxation.

Darrell: Don't undermine my ability to coax things out of you, mon cher. *He smiled, always impressed with Apollo's effortless use of magic, and now curious as well. Nevertheless he followed his lover and rose his glass, clinking them together* And an oasis of calm, for however long it lasts.
