Song Meanings:

1. Dead Island Trailer Theme- Included for shits and giggles from the moment I nicknamed my island dead island. Plus it sets the heartbreaking mood. An intro of the island...and a version of this made entirely with wind instruments is probably how it sounds like at night at my island.

2. White Wedding Part 1- I knew the first post I would write would be Helena/Vlad. Plus a wedding was going to be taking place so of course I needed to include it. "Hey little sister what have you done" is meant to hint at what eventually becomes Helena feeling guilt over working to usurp Vlad after he's found dead. Also meant to hint at Vlad being killed in the beginning of the plot.

3. 99 Problems- This is Mitchell @ at the start of the plot. One of those 99 problems are the fact he just killed Vlad. Mostly meant to portray a carefree nature that is completely incongruous to how he actually feels. Additionally- he wrote this in a scene to Leah:

Quote:

There’s plenty of reasons to be concerned, but none that involve you. I do mean that in the best way.

99 problems. Leah isn't one of them. Also meant to be ironic because -I- knew how her death would affect him.

This song could also apply to Evan. He definitely has a LOT of problems. More than he knows. But a woman is not one of them, cuz he's trying to get the d.

Also also, as you guys theorized, this song could also apply to Frederick. He definitely has a idgaf attitude all the time, and the only solid thing in his life is his relationship with Lucy.

But mainly this is a 'Mitchell brushes his hands off as he emerges from below deck after killing and stowing Vlad's body, prances about, climbs to the top of the crow's nest, all devil-may-care' song.

4. Drunken Whaler- This song was also chosen to hint at the fact that a murder happened on the ship. It was also chosen purely for the villain-at-sea-shipwreck aesthetic. Also 'feed him to the hungry rats' is meant to hint at Mitchell, cuz rats. Also also what do whalers use to hunt whales? Harpoons. What does Mitchell retrieve from the sinking ship? A harpoon (among many other 'tools').

5. In All My Dreams I Drown- This song is about Nadia and Apollo's shared vision. In the original draft of my plot, Angela was also supposed to see the vision because of her telepath ability. The drowning part of the vision would trigger her to remember her own drowning and hint that she's been at the island before. Work and life and procrastination got in the way. Nevertheless, this song is entirely meant for Nadia, not only for the drowning and sense of foreboding, but also to hint at the fact Nadia's official secret is that she's a prostitute. (She eventually had so many secrets and this one not nearly hinted at enough that it became a bonus point).

6. White Flag- First reaction to the shipwrecked islands by my villain group. Mitchell, Nadia, and Angela (yeah she's definitely adding herself to as many songs as she can now because I didn't pick one exclusively for her) have been on these islands before. If you'll notice/reread, they are never worried about where they are and they never worry about being able to get back or being stranded. They know they have passage off the islands. Their worries are on other things.

7. Me and Mine- Like you guys guessed, this is a purely Mitchell song. 100%. "I will burn your kingdom down if you try to conquer me and mine" pretty much sums up Mitchell's whole motivation for the plot. He's not a complicated guy XD Just kidding, he's super complex, it really hurt to make him a villain, it all hurts. In the original plot draft, he was also going to just let the nobles fend for themselves and only help sinbornes/sinyei/halfbloods make camp.

8. Bandida- Like you guys also guessed, this song is for Nadia. If Me and Mine completely delineated Mitchell's motivation and role in the plot, Bandida does the same for Nadia in this plot. She's a cloaked and daggered helper, righteous and dangerous, doing what she does out of love. "My darling please forgive me, I'm feared in every town. I'm stopless now to save you, the bandida is coming round." <-- Mentions Nadia's backstory of her infamy all around the Faycella countryside. She believes she's there to save everyone and no one can stop her.

9. Opium- Yeah this is just straight up for Darrell being an opium and laudanum addict. I did my best to write his withdrawal symptoms X_X I tried! But they got lost in the flurry of all the other ways the islands and the runes were missing with their minds. It was mostly supposed to be showcased by insomnia I never wrote which leads into-

10. The Music Of The Night- Darrell was supposed to be awake during their first night there. His post would have established the soft singing coming from the island at night after the screams died out. So yes, this song is just because my island sings xD It could also double as a sex pollen song, but that one is another specifically, further down. It was also supposed to lead into the A plot but after the extra day was added, that fell through.

11. Thriller- A song about my hooded figures/the rest of the A plot. I really liked the vibe. Plus there were a few lines that i kept putting into some situations "I can thrill you more than any ghoul would ever dare try" for example is def Miah post saving her from the shiphead, pre her death. And, it tickled me particularly because you know how in the music video for Thriller, the beginning with Michael turning into a werewolf and hunting for a girl is part of a movie and not real? Hehe.

12. Do You Want To Know A Secret- This is a two parter song. It is half an intro to the songs that come right after it which are entirely about the character's secrets. This song is also about Amalie's feelings towards Daniella but given that absolutely everybody knows about that, it wasn't her official secret. I was hoping it would come out somehow though, AND AM SUPER PUMPED ABOUT HOW IT DID.

13. The Wolf- Song about Irene's secret of being a werewolf, bitten by Ansel when he was transformed on the night she killed him. It also hints at the fact that Irene goes in savage mode right after she's killed and comes back because of her werewolf powers. Fun fact- she was originally supposed to MAUL Evan. She did not know that he wasn't being mindcontrolled and she remembers him killing Julio. In fact, that might still happen.

14. You Don't Own Me- Like I told you guys before, the key but small detail that you were missing about this song is that out of the dozens and hundreds of female covers of this song about woman power yaaas, I specifically picked out the male cover by the Blow Monkeys that was used in the movie Dirty Dancing (you didn't need to know that, but I felt like sharing anyways). And this song is about Evan's secret which is that he's being controlled by Mitchell.

15. It's A Sin- This song is about Julio's secret. He had a tragic life man. But this is about the fact he killed Gustav when he went to confront the man about his mother. The lyrics touch upon about how nothing he ever did went right, including the person he tried to be for his father- which was a worse person. 'turned over a new leaf' adapted a more liberal meaning of just change, not necessarily good change. r.i.p. Julio

16. Love On The Brain- This is it, the sex pollen song. But more specifically than that it is the song about Frederick's secret. THIS IS THE MITCHELL/RICK HAVE FUCKED AND ARE FUCKING SONG. "It beats me black and blue but it fucks me so good." An unintended effect is how many ships this song would work for. Too many dysfunctional ships in this plot man. But yeah man, never forget that there exists a universe where Mitchell and Rick fucked. (I won't...because I ultimately ended up shipping it harder than I meant to. Fuck Rick, you honestly care about him.)

17. Young And Menace- Another song about Mitchell and the rest of the sinbornes ("we were never supposed to make it half this far") as well- this is the song that I pictured playing during Mitchell and Nadia's final showdown. It's also my tease to Mitchell given that not counting immortals, he was the oldest main character at a whopping age of 31 XD

18. Smoke And Mirrors- This is the song about the island's secret- all of my villains are liars. Frauds. Conmen. Actors. Sinbornes disguised with black robes and boar skulls. Angela casting minor illusions to make the figures seem like they're not entirely there and made of smoke. Nadia outright lying about seeing her own death to cast suspicion away from the fact that she was safe and not suffocating in the caverns. "Are you watching?" like are you playing close attention? “You put on quite a show” why yes, my villains really do.

Bonus-

19. G.T.F.O.- Yeah, of course I had to include it. Mitchell does want you to get the fuck out. He didn’t want ANYONE there. But of course he had contingency plans. Mitchell is prepared. Also, Great Thief Founds Outpost, man.

20. What Makes You Laugh- ME FOOLING YOU GUYS WITH THE CURSE OF THE ISLAND. SORRY GUYS. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
