The heels of Paula's flats made soft tapping on the stone floor in the corridors of the West Wing. She walked through the hallway, randomly bumping other people walking past her in the opposing direction, breifly skirting across their minds to read whether they were friend or foe. She passed the people and their minds without any other word, greeting, or parting. It was as if she were on autopilot.

Paula had just recently returned to the Sanctuary, interupted with her dealings on Figaro, but she figured that she was done with that place. First think she knew on her return was that Shadow had gone the way of Ness, after that, she had stopped seeking out other minds that she knew.

She reached the door of the apartment, sliding in the card key, but not taking it back out. She was scared that Edward might not be there, her only reason for coming back. If he wasn't there, she didn't know what she would do, so merely lingered at the door, halfway through the process of opening it.

Groggily, the only word to describe the current nature of the teen which rose from his position on the couch. For a few seconds it seemed that the male was completely pale, covered by some unknown force, no face or arms visible, but oafishly it was tossed aside in a rather unnecessary manner, landing in a misshapen heap on the carpeted floor.

Currently, the season was summer, oh so hot, the central cooling seemed to only do so much for the alchemist. He rose lazily, his usually neat, brushed blond hair was currently in a rather disheveled shape, the usual pointed strand of blond hair which poked up above his forehead was joined by other strands of hand, seemingly curled from the humidity of the room, the open windows only seeming to increase the crisis.

He sighed once, his toned chest rising and falling with each breath as the teenager stood, walking slowly towards the kitchen, extracting leftovers which consisted of half-eaten pancakes from the fridge. Once he sat down on a stool he rested his head on one open palm, eating the food in a rather slow manner as he shifted lightly in his seat, his boxers irritating his sitting position.

Paula rested her head against the wood of the door. Was that the fridge she heard, or was she merely wishing it? She was really dreading opening the door and finding the apartment empty. She had had enough of being in there by herself. The end of her Figaro journey had failed in want she had wanted it to be.

Open the door, don't open the door, open the door, don't open the door. The choice almost wrenching at her heart. She pulled the card out and waited, taking a deep breath, then she pushed it open.

Slam!

She had waited too long in opening the door, and Paula just walked into it, thudding against it. Her nose... She put her hands up to her nose. What a stupid thing to do. Tears started up in her eyes from the flustration and pain of just walking into the door.

Man, it never got this hot in central, or in risembool for that matter. I guess what the books said about adaptation were true, each region, world, and base have their own climate, wether it be warm in the winter, cold in the summer, or vice versa, the weather controllers for this base have much to be--

A, slam? Loud noise? What could it be? With a swift movement the alchemist had turned around, his automail leg making a loud, metallic thudding noise as it collided with the tile, his other leg following suit as he walked forward, headed towards the door.

He huffed a bit, bringing a hand up to move his bedhead into place, sorting out the locks of hair as he tried his best to make himself look presentable. But, something else caught his eye, he looked down at the light on the door, why was it flickering? Green, red, green red, was someone continually opening and closing the door?

Queer through this moment was, he decided to let it play out of it's own accord, by merely walking backwards, setting himself down on the edge of a furnished recliner as he gazed towards the door.

Stupid doorknob, with it's locking, and unlocking, and relocking, and shutting her out. Paula's blonde eyebrow twitched as she glared at the offending doorknob as if it had made her run into the door on purpose. She pulled her gloved hand from her nose.

Good, no blood.

She set the hand on the knob again, passing up the card key and zapping it into submission. Stupid doorknob. She thrusted the door open, the one hand holding it against the wall as she looked inside. And there, right there, was Edward barely dressed and just sitting there.

Paula relaxed so much upon seeing him, all of the heavy thoughts that had been plaguing her since Figaro going away at once. She entered the apartment, leaving the wretched door to close itself with its weight, and without stopping to remove her jacket at the coat rack she went right to Edward, wrapping her arms around his shoulders and holding him close.

He had his vision focused on the door as it opened, the weight adjourning from the other side had to have belonged to someone who was rather tense at the moment, or worried. He simply watched the light as it flickered, on, off, on, off, on, off. It began to perturb him slightly, but he never stirred in the slightest, merely serving to stay in the same spot for that entire amount of time.

Oh, but how his pulse quickened as his angel walked through the door, the aim of all of his goals, his heart, Paula. He simply sat there shocked, overwhelmed by her sudden interest, be it even more laughable was the manner in which he looked to her, still half-awake, his eyes drooping lightly as she approached him, his hair still a mess, and him still clothed, his black boxers with the pandas on them making him all the more comical.

A ragged breath escaped him as she flung herself into him in a half-tackle, his arms hanging loosely at his sides all the while as she wrapped her arms around his shoulders. He merely looked to her, one eyebrow raised in question.

What was with the eyebrow? Paula stood back at arm's length, a more than worried look on her face. "You.. You still remember me, right Edward?" she asked, desparation edging into her voice as she misinterepted his drowziness for unrecognition. It wouldn't be the first time that she had been forgotten by someone.

The elder elric brother looked to Paula at an even gaze, his golden eyes shimmering lightly in the fluorescent light which was cast from the bulb above. He reached out whilst doing so, brushing a hand through her blond hair as he leaned in, nuzzling his face into her, sighing contently.

His arms then came up, encircling around her waist as he held her almost as closely as she held him, his worries washing away under a wave of euphoric bliss. ''Paula... How could I ever forget you?"

Once again, Paula's mood swung crazily into another direction. Psychic female hormones, go figure. Now that all the worst possiblities had been proven wrong, she was now, truely happy. She closed her eyes, smiling lightly as she tilted her head towards him and embraced him again. She let out the breath that she didn't realize she had been holding. "Good... good..." She stayed like that for a bit, then she had to admit to her blonde moment. "I walked into the door..."

Edward lowered his eyebrow, his golden eyes closed as he nuzzled her lovingly, breathing in her scent deeply as if she were the last solid thing he would ever touch, the last person he would embrace. He leaned into her, squeezing her hips lightly. ''Oh, is that so?'' He chuckled a bit, brushing a strand of blond hair behind her ear as he looked her in the eyes.

"Yeah..." she smiled, looking back at him. She grinned even more as she had always fancied those eyes. She pulled Edward closer still, her face such that she breathing on his cheek. "It also, just so happens to be that I can keep my promise to you now."

The room may have been too warm for Edward, but for Paula, her whole body almost entirely covered up, it was moderate. Hanging out in the desert had been her adaption time, and she even had a slight tan from it, her hair bleached blonder by the sun.

''Where's the little girl I used to know?" He chuckled a bit, leaning in a bit as he closed the distance, his lips mere inches from hers as his warm, fragrant breath drifted across her full lips, he leaned in slowly, kissing her lightly as he felt emotions stir which had been dormant for so long. In that few seconds, the entirety of existence melted away, it was only her, everything he sensed was Paula, her hair, her smile, her smell, her touch, at that moment, she was his world.

Chased away into the desert, Paula thought and didn't answer him. She simply indulged in his kiss, moving her lips slightly for him. Paula could now understand some of Edward's feeling from before that had unsettled her to begin with. If she could just focus everything onto him, then nothing else in world mattered, and maybe that would help her to keep her mind calm and sane. She pulled a hand back, and brushed it against his cheek.

He broke the kiss, lingering still over her lips as he pulled her into a warm embrace, nuzzling his hair into her face once more. "Heh, my breath stinks doesn't it?" He sighed a bit, simply wanting to stand there and hold her, having worried about her for so long had haunted him dearly, his mind now filled with nothing but thoughts of her.

Paula let out a slight laugh. "No, not very," she answered. If anything was stinking about him, it was the light layer of sweat on his skin from finding the room too hot. Even that, she did not notice until she had pulled off her gloves while her arms were still around him and touched the back of his neck.

"Mmm, is the AC not working right?" A cool, light breeze started flowing throughout the apartment: Paula using her powers in very mundane, yet helpful way for Edward.

Edward grinned mischievously, working his hands along the small of her back. "Oh, I'm sure we could make it muchwarmer in here." In all truths, he didn't mind the heat, in Risembool it was always so very dreadful during the summer, and they didn't have these remarkable air conditioners, or refrigerators to help them keep cool during the retched weather.

''I guess you could say I'm accustomed to it." He took her gloves from her, folding them inside of each other as he tossed them to the side then released his grasp from her, nuzzling her lightly then snaked his head out from under her hands, falling back onto the couch.

Paula's breeze died down and the heat rose both in the room and on her cheeks. She looked at where Edward had tossed the gloves, sighing inwardly as he pulled away from her. Shedding her jacket on the arm of the sofa and down to her sleeveless dress, she went and sat next to him. She gazed about the apartment for a little bit before reaching out and putting her hands behind Edward's head again, her face close to his. "Now that I'm back, you would be needing this to remind you of me anymore." Her fingers worked the box on the pink ribbon in his hair nimbly, and when she pulled away she had captured it. Reaching behind her own head, she tried her hair up into a high ponytail, smiling happily at Edward.
