Rules/Guidelines
1. Be prepared to coexist with alternate opinions.
Please respect our members' opinions. Please do not mock or disrespect them for having a different opinion than yours. You may address, disagree, or criticize another member's argument, but you may not attack their person.

The ability to coexist with alternate opinions is probably the defining qualifier for long term habitation in this forum. Civility isn't enforced due to some fear of blunt speech -- it is a practical necessity. Without it, we can't have nice things.

2. Be civil when you accidentally offend someone.
Sooner or later, you may accidentally offend someone. This is the internet. It happens. When you do this, simply say, "I'm sorry I offended you." If you were the person who was offended, please accept this apology and move on. It doesn't have to be a thread ruiner.

3. Ad hominems are bad.
The end.

4. Please be careful about invoking real world examples for your arguments or counterarguments.
If, for instance, a member admits that they are uncomfortable romancing a turian because human/alien pairings don't feel right or plausible to them personally, let's try to avoid likening them to real life racists who believe interracial couples are unnatural. Know when these comparisons are harmful and when they aren't.

5. Prohibited posting content: Do not spam or post racist, sexist, or homophobic posts.
Spam is considered to be any needlessly repetitive message or image posted for the purpose of clogging the forum or irritating people who are busy frolicking, grumbling, making obscure pop culture references, trying to hear what the voices are telling them, or otherwise trying to engage in normal TCR forum behavior.

Racism, sexism, and homophobia are considered taboo prejudices. This shouldn't be a problem unless you are determined to vocalize hate or derision at these groups.

There is no swear word that is prohibited on this forum. Inappropriate or pornographic images must be put in spoiler tags labeled NSFW, or else posted in a link that is labeled NSFW. We must think of our members who are totally sneaking onto this site from their work computers to enjoy a solitary ray of fun in an otherwise dreadfully tedious day. It's all fun and games until the boss sees a naked picture of David Bowie on your screen.

6. If you have a personal issue with another member, please take it to private messages wherever possible.
Try not to turn a thread into a Jerry Springer episode if you can manage it. Take it to PMs, even if you find yourself in a fight with someone you don't know well enough to feel totally comfortable sending a private message to. Having the fight in the thread is likely to tank it.

If you feel that you no longer want to view another member's posts or receive their messages, there is a block feature available by going to their profile, going into profile options, and selecting ignore. Even if you don't want to ignore a user, it's often wise to cool down and agree to disagree.

7. Report posts the mods should be warned about.
If you believe that another member is not adhering to the guidelines or is otherwise exhibiting problem behavior, please consider reporting the post. The administration will never disclose the creator of these reports.

Currently the report button has been disabled, since we received more accidental reports from it than legitimate ones. Reports are now filed by PMing a moderator. Please do not hesitate to do this. Moderators depend largely upon members to draw their attention to problem posters. The forum isn't helped when problem behavior goes unchallenged due to a witness's aversion to speaking up.

8. Communicate with the administrators.
Feel free to private message the administration (Nightwriter & DragonReine) if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions. We're happy to help.

Remember: discussion and debate are always welcome, but don't make it personal. :)

P.S. There is no such thing as necro posting in this board. Post in any thread at any time.
