The last nonfiction book I read was an Ann Rule book. The Stranger Beside Me. Haven't picked up a nonfiction book since. |

The Hitchikers guide to the galaxy is awesome. How far into it are you? And Pratchet ftw! |

Zaphod just got visited by his dead great-grandfather, who zapped him across the galaxy. I must say, the movie very much misrepresented Zaphod. I thought he was a total idiot. I mean, in the books, he's not an intelligent man by any stretch - but he's not a total, rambling buffoon. In the movie I kept wondering, "Why don't they just leave this guy at an intergalactic bus stop or something?" |

I haven't read a book in a long time. When I was younger I used to plow through books quickly. Anybody's got a recommendation? |

I just finished reading Mass Effect: Ascension, next book i will read is Mass Effect: Retribution. If you are into forgotten realms fantasy, i suggest The Dark Elf Trilogy by R.A Salvatore. Edited by Gurthang, Nov 18 2010, 11:14 AM.

Reading Ray Kurzwell's The Singularity is Near at the moment. I'm fascinated with cybernetics and AIs lately. |

Currently reading: "Terminal Worlds" by Alastair Reynolds "Imager's Challenge" by L E Modesitt Jr. "Legacy" by Lois McMaster Bujold (probably won't finish that one) I'm also trying to make myself start on "Dust of Dreams" by Steven Erikson. That series has gotten so sprawling that it's harder and harder to recall the plot and get into it with every new book that appears. Thankfully volume 10 "The Crippled God" will be the last one. |

O M G...eeeeeek. I stopped reading that series from Book one. Yikes, Ieldra, if your experience of Bujold is based on that series, burn it, I say, burn it!!! |

No, not entirely based on those books, thankfully. I have read a few of the early Vorkosigan books and The Curse of Chalion and its two sequels. All good reads, though I still don't understand the level of praise she gets. |

Personally, Bujold is very hit-and-miss for me. Her fantasy writing doesn't interest me at all. She has more than a streak of romance writer vibe to her and it comes across very obviously in certain books like "A Civil Campaign" and all of her fantasy novels. Admittedly, her space opera doesn't contain much in terms of groundbreaking ideas and such, but I feel she's very good at portraying human conflict and struggles against the backdrop of galatic wars and political events that compel ordinary people into making difficult choices and becoming reluctant heroes. Ironically enough, my two favourite books of hers isn't part of the Vorkorsigan series strictly speaking. It's about his parents, Shards of Honour and Barrayar, and how they change during the Escobar invasion and the Barrayar Civil War. |

"And the day came when it hit me like lightning through my veins A sudden change in my groove, in my walk I got my lion heart and electric flowing through my brain Shocking waves make me feel I can float It's like this city is mine and the dark is my cave I can't explain this sudden peace in my walk, I sure hope I'm living my life as if I got powers And tonight I feel immortal I said tonight I feel immortal" -Immortal, by Kid Cudi | |

Recently finished reading Metro 2033, which is one of the most depressing books ever. I was almost in tears because of the ending. Glad I read it, though. Can't wait for the sequel to be translated. |
