THE SECRET OF CIRQUE ROYAL

Behind its glamour and fame, this extraordinary circus has a few secrets up its sleeves. It is known that the circus organizes extravagant shows for its audience, often showcasing its best performers and live acts. But who are these performers? More importantly, where exactly does this well recognized circus get their troupe members? We'll let you in a little secret.

Cirque Royal is dominantly composed of orphans and the homeless; usually those who possess any athletic skill or unusually interesting attributes. However, not everyone came into their troupe willingly. Among the large population of their family members are kidnapped children. In some special cases, there are also teenagers and a few adults who are dragged into the troupe. Although the members seemingly appear to be accommodating and kind, behind their curtains is where the real gore happens. If a victim did not possess any skills that could be used for their live performances, many of them were subjected to forced deformation; becoming the local attraction to amuse and entertain visitors. Most of these victims miraculously survived this transformation, but the circus has encountered a good share of death counts due to their inhumane treatment. There has been no exact number, but rumors have said that the circus has killed over fifty victims from the deformation process alone. That is not all, besides engaging in illegal and inhumane activities, the circus has also contributed to other police reports for thievery, destruction of private property and murder.

It has not been proven, but the circus is linked to the several missing persons reports that are being filed. It is known that the number of cases significantly increase whenever the circus visits a particular town to put up their shows. What the authorities don't know is that these troupe members are discreetly kidnapping townsfolk under the order of an individual they refer to as Father. They also seem to be very particular in their selection, choosing people who showcase skills that can be used in the circus. However, this is not always the case as some victims were nothing more than ordinary townspeople. It remains to be a secret as to how Cirque Royal evades the authorities' grasps with the amount of crimes they have committed; but some say that they have a few 'special' members in the family that help keep the rats out.

HOW TO PLAY

In this little game we have but three roles to choose. You can either be part of the Circus, the Authorities or simply a Villager with a goose. Regardless of your choice, your fate will remain the same; because it will be do or die to win this kind of game.

The roleplay functions as a cat and mouse playground, where your character's objectives differ according to their role. Each role has their own sets of limits and goals in the game, which you can read in the roleplay archives. Whatever the objective of your faction is, you must do your best to meet these objectives or you might put both your character's life in danger and their faction at risk. The flow of the story is influenced by the sessions being written by the roleplayers in the forum. You have control over your own character's story and the decisions they make throughout the roleplay will determine the outcome of the final story to be written in the storybook.

RELATIONSHIPS
In this game, a relationship among the three roles has been established. The details below will serve as a guide as to how future character interactions will take place.

Villagers
Are the mice that are being chased.

Circus Troupe
Are the cats that chase after the mice.

Authorities
Are the dogs that chase after the cats.

VillagersCircus Troupe
Villagers are the main victims of the Circus Troupe members. Should Father request for a newcomer, they will be the first targets of the troupe. Besides using them to supply members, the villagers are also the source of livelihood for the circus. They are the paying patrons that allow the circus to function and they are also used as a way to divert authorities' attention. Circus members cannot become villagers but villagers can be part of the circus troupe.

Circus TroupeAuthorities
The Authorities are the only people that the circus does not want to get involved with. The authorities are responsible for the capturing of their members should they be careless and get caught. Although they can also be paying patrons, the circus' secret affairs will be at risk with their presence. Someone from the authorities can be part of the circus troupe, but a circus troupe member cannot join the police force.

Villagers Ξ Authorities
The Authorities and the Villagers remain in neutral grounds and are generally allies. Villagers may approach the police to file cases and request for their assistance if they are in trouble. Likewise, the authorities may approach villagers to gather information or clues to help solve their cases. A villager is eligible to join the local authorities and members from force may choose to revert back into a villager.

The chart serves as a general description to the functions of each role. It is highly possible that, given the circumstances, characters may twist the standard and cheat the system. An example would be: If a member from the Authority develops undying feelings for someone in the circus and chooses to abandon his responsibility to the public, it is possible that he may transfer sides. (Provided that he passes the requirements and tests given to him by their leader) The possibilities and relationship twists depend on the circumstance of your character. Certain situations will allow them to change sides but not all.

How do I win the game?
Simple. You must be able to live until the story reaches its end and a faction is titled the winner. That means, you must not let your character die. Factions find strength in numbers, and the more members that are retained on their side, the higher the chances they can defend themselves from the opposing faction.

A winner can be chosen if certain requirements are met:

Villagers can become the victors if they are able to drive the circus and its members out of the town before they reach their conditions. This is possible only in a group roleplay session where villagers will fight against a number of troupe members and win in the session or if they can successfully prosecute the circus in court and win the case. They must not reach a death count of more than ten (10), they should have at least completed thirty (30) sessions in entirety and members should have completed at least three (3) sessions each.

The Circus Troupe can become the victors for two situations:

1) They reach their quota of 50,000 pounds.
Once Father has earned enough money he needs from the town, he will pack up his circus and transfer to a new location bringing with him all the people he has kidnapped from the town. Only pounds that are earned from circus shows will be counted.

2) They successfully evaded 10 police cases and kidnapped 5 victims without getting caught.
If the circus is able to escape or divert cases away from them, then they are able to continue their underground activities behind the authorities' back. Should they also be able to bring five new members from either the Villagers or Authorities into the circus, it means circus has gained control over the town. The circus must not reach a death count of more than five (5), should have at least completed thirty (30) sessions in entirety and members should have completed at least two (2) circus shows and at least three (3) individual sessions each.

Authorities can become the victors if they are able to expose Cirque Royal's secret to the public with evidence, permanently jail three (3) troupe members and execute Ringmaster. The police must not reach a death count of more than five (5), should have at least completed thirty (30) sessions in entirety, have solved at least five (5) cases and members should have completed at least three (3) sessions each.

If all of the conditions are not met by the faction, then a winner will not be chosen. Should a faction fail to meet all requirements, then they are giving favor to the other factions.

Note: If a faction surpasses the required death count, they are only eligible to win in the next cycle of the roleplay. So be careful! Make the character deaths count.

THE MONEY SYSTEM

London makes use of their pound sterling as a medium of trade between individuals, businesses, and government entities. The coins are further divided into the pound and penny, whereas there are 100 pence (p) to a pound (£). The fastest and easiest way to gain money is through the completion of roleplay sessions, where each member may be distributed 150 pounds for each completed session.

Villagers are given an initial check of 5,000 pounds upon their entry in the game, which they may use to their own disposal. Most commonly, their money is used towards the circus's entrance fee.

There will be a grace period where each week, the bank will give each Villager 1,000 pounds as a weekly allowance. Members of the circus and the police will not be eligible for this allowance as their income will come from their faction's personal savings. However, Villagers are expected to pay monthly tax which costs 2,000 pounds while the Circus and Authorities pay 3,500 pounds . It is mandatory for Villagers to pay their taxes, should they fail to pay, they are expected to serve three (3) days in jail. It is important to keep a budget and watch over your spending, so don't carelessly waste your pounds!

The Circus Troupe and Authorities are given an initial check of 20,000 pounds, and may be distributed among their members through completed tasks and jobs as payment. The distributed money is often used for circus supplies, firearms, and bail money.

**Roleplayers may also earn money through other means, this includes thievery.

THE JUDICIARY SYSTEM

Within the town there exists a local courthouse which is composed of a jury and a judge. Cases that are filed and passed on by the Authorities will be entertained in the courthouse. Within this system, the town observes an organized process when serving justice. This process includes the passing of the case, the acknowledgement of the case, the court session and the closing. Cases that are being taken by the court may come from the Villagers or the Circus Troupe. A suspect will not be convicted until proven guilty and accusations towards them will not fully acknowledged without proper evidence.

!! Evidence may come in a form of lists or screenshots. A defendant may pass a list of all completed roleplay sessions that prove the suspect to be guilty or provide a file of screenshots which contain the response of the suspect. The more solid the evidence you have against the suspect, the higher the chances they will be sent to jail. However, the following factors should be considered when passing evidence:

1) The evidence should contain the suspect's clear intention or action when they committed the crime.

2) If witnesses are involved, the defendant must be able to convince them to attend court meetings to make a statement.

3) Evidence from sessions will only be acknowledged if the session is completed and archived in the Storybook.

4) Screenshots must be clear and should have the suspect's name visible in each response to be valid.

Now it leaves us with the question, can you cheat? Of course you can! Your character may be able to save themselves from being imprisoned with two methods:

  • Bail - This method can only be done if the suspect is not permanently sentenced to jail. This is where you "buy" your character's freedom. The amount to be paid depends on the decision of the court and can range from £1,000 to £15,000 depending on the severity of the suspect's case. If your character comes from the the Authorities or the Circus Troupe, the faction can pay for your character's bailing fee.

  • Bribery - This method can be done before the actual court hearing. The defendant can attempt to bribe the judge by offering him a sum of money. However, the judge will not always accept bribery during a case. Below are the rates that can be paid and their percentage of success:

    Price
    Success Rate
    £500
    10%
    £1,500
    25%
    £3,000
    50%
    £5,000
    75%
    £7,000
    100%
