Keepers, Horny, and the Mistresses. Posted Image Some of you have already guessed what this is about. For the rest of you heathens, we're talking about a cult classic. Dungeon Keeper (1997), and Dungeon Keeper 2 (1999), was one of the first games that allowed you to play the bad guy, and it did so with sarcastic wit, and interesting mechanics. Fans of the game have been begging for a sequel since forever, but all plans for Dungeon Keeper 3 fell through. In 2008, Dungeon Keeper Online was announced, for Asian markets, while in 2013, a true-to-form EA soft-launched a horrible version of Dungeon Keeper for mobile devices. While the game itself killed the franchise for many, it gave a necessary boost to the closest spiritual successor of the series. Enter War for the Overworld. Posted Image Fans of the original series had began working on a sequel back in 2009, and started a kickstarter campaign in 2012, promising to create the much anticipated sequel everyone wanted. The eventual Steam early access launch came at the end of troubled beta, and without the failure of Dungeon Keeper Mobile things would have ended there. The developers managed to get the blessings of Peter Molyneux, creator of the original, while the voice actor for the original narrator signed on. The game was finally released in 2015, while in 2016 we got the first expansion, Heart of Gold. While several iconic aspects of the original are missing, due to copyright issues, I have been playing War for the Overworld lately, and I can say it's definitely a worthy successor to the series. Are there any other fans here, or am I the only evil genius around? |
