As some Sonic fans might already know there are two new Sonic the Hedgehog games coming out this year and one of them is going to be called 'Sonic Mania' which is a 2D game and looks very similar to the original Sonic 2D games and the other that has been known as 'Sonic 2017' or 'Sonic Project 2017' is a 3D game that is made by the creators of 'Sonic Colours' and 'Sonic Generations' and some sad news is 'Sonic Mania' has been pushed back to later this year but Sega unveiled the first trailer for 'Sonic 2017' and announced its official name is 'Sonic Forces.' Project Sonic 2017 Is Called Sonic Forces, Sonic Mania Delayed to Summer 2017

During the SEGA SXSW panel yesterday, it was revealed that Project Sonic 2017 is officially called Sonic Forces, and the first gameplay clip was shown off (above). “Sonic blasts through a city under siege by Death Egg Robot sentinels in this first look at Sonic Forces,” the video’s description says. Sonic Forces releases in holiday 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Additionally, SEGA announced that Sonic Mania has suffered a delay and will now launch in summer 2017 for PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC, instead of spring 2017. Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka sent this statement to IGN, explaining the delay: For SEGA, quality is most important. We stated this last year, and we are committed to doing whatever it takes to make Sonic games the highest quality possible. Though we like to go fast, sometimes, for a great game, you must also wait. Additionally, it was revealed that the classic Flying Battery zone is returning in Sonic Mania:

I am really looking forward to 'Sonic Forces' 'cause I LOVED 'Sonic Colours' and 'Sonic Generations' and was kinda disappointed with the last two Sonic 3D games on the Wii U ('Sonic Lost Worlds' and 'Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric') 'cause they were made by different people and just weren't as good as 'Sonic Colours', 'Sonic Generations' and 'Sonic Unleashed' but this game looks to be a return to those games. Just like 'Super Mario Odyssey' new details, a new trailer and game footage of 'Sonic Forces' has also been released online. Posted Image
New Sonic Forces trailer highlights new villains and gameplay

Shadow the Hedgehog makes a return.
Sonic the Hedgehog's Switch outing, Sonic Forces has received a new trailer at E3 2017. The new footage shows off a little more of those sweet customisation options we saw a few weeks back and a little more around gameplay and story. The gameplay seems to be split into "modern" and "classic" sections, featuring 3D exploration and 2D sidescrolling respectively. It makes sense considering the last positively received Sonic games was Generations, a game that followed the same formula.
In addition to gameplay, we got a closer look at the villains. Amongst the rogue's gallery, we can see Shadow the Hedgehog and Metal Sonic, but most interestingly, they all seem to be led by a brand-new villain made for Sonic Forces. We're looking forward to seeing more from Forces when it releases in Australia in 2017.

It has been so long since a Sonic game came out that actually looked good. I have to agree. I didn't like 'Sonic Lost Worlds that much. It was too much of ripoff of the 'Super Mario Galaxy' games and the two 'Sonic Boom' games didn't feel like Sonic games. The last two great Sonic games were 'Sonic Colours' and 'Sonic Generations' in my opinion and 'Sonic Forces' is being made by the same people who made them so it is good to see them getting back on track with 3D games. They also have a new 2D game coming up called 'Sonic Mania' which looks like the old Sonic 2D games. Posted Image
Sonic Mania arrives in August, watch the awesome new trailer

Coming to PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One
Sonic Mania, the revival of the 2D side-scrolling Sonic platforming games from the ’90s, is set to be released Aug. 15 on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One, publisher Sega announced today.
The game was originally scheduled to launch in the spring, but Sega announced in March that it had delayed the platformer to this summer.
Sonic Mania, which is being developed by Headcannon and PagodaWest Games in collaboration with Sega and Christian Whitehead, will offer a mix of new levels and updated versions of classic Sonic stages. Sonic the hedgehog, Tails the fox and Knuckles the echidna will all appear in the game.
Pre-orders for digital versions of Sonic Mania, which will cost $19.99, are now live on Steam and the Xbox Games Store. The game’s Collector’s Edition, which will be available only in North America for $69.99, is available for pre-order at various retailers while supplies last.
For a closer look at Sonic Mania, check out the new trailer above, which features gameplay footage as well as sketch and color animation from Tyson Hesse set to an original song called “Time Trials” from Hyper Potions.
Correction: The animation artist’s name is Tyson Hesse, not Tyler Hesse. We’ve edited the article to reflect this.

I think the Custom Character is from the future. It makes sense. Past Sonic is from the past, present Sonic is from the present.

I think the Custom Character is from the future. It makes sense. Past Sonic is from the past, present Sonic is from the present. Yes. It is looking very similar to how 'Sonic Generations' was with 2 different versions of Sonic which I am excited over 'cause I loved the 2D and 3D versions of levels from previous games and have always wanted a sequel to 'Sonic Generations.' I just wish X Box One would make some of the Sonic games like 'Sonic Generations' and 'Sonic Unleashed' backwards compatible and add 'Sonic Heroes' to the X Box One Marketplace!! Posted Image

It looks like the 'Sonic the Hedgehog' comic books are not over and will be returning next year under IDW. A lot of people thought they were ending when it was announced 'Archie Comics' wouldn't be continuing the series and I am not sure what lead to them having a falling out after publishing the comic books for so many years but I think they will have a good future under IDW and am a fan of a number of their ongoing series. I haven't bought any 'Sonic the Hedgehog' comic books for years so I am not up to date with the latest storylines but I used to get them back in the early 90s and still have the first appearance of Knuckles the Echidna. Today SEGA revealed that Sonic the Hedgehog and his friends have joined forces with IDW Publishing, the leading publisher of licensed comic books, to begin a thrilling new chapter in the Blue Blur’s adventures in 2018.
Creative teams are currently being formed, and a publishing plan is now underway with more details to come at a later date. Writers and artists will be bringing their considerable talents to the comic book world of Sonic.
“We’ve been speaking with beloved Sonic fan-favorite creators and new creators alike, and are excited to be able to spread specifics about our plans for the comic in the near future,” said Chris Ryall, IDW’s Chief Creative Officer.
“We are ecstatic about this partnership with IDW,” said Ivo Gerscovich, Chief Brand Officer for Sonic the Hedgehog. “We know they’ll serve as a good home for the new adventures of Sonic, his friends and foes.”

Sonic Mania Special Stages, Bonus Stages, & Time Attack Footage Revealed
- Quote:
-
The first footage of Sonic Mania’s special stages, bonus stages, and time attack has been revealed on the official Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter account and YouTube channel.
Special stages have sonic running around in a 3D space just like he did in Sonic CD and are found by entering a giant ring hidden in a level. In the stages, you have to chase down a UFO to get the Chaos Emerald while avoiding obstacles. As The Mercury News writes, You have to collect blue balls to boost your speed and rings to extend your time.
Bonus stages are encountered by jumping into the sparks that appear above checkpoints. Once inside, they function pretty much like they did in Sonic 3 where you have to collect blue spheres to turn them into red spheres that you then had to avoid. Turning a group of blue spheres to red turns all of them into rings.
Time Attack is activated by hitting a specific box with a blue ring within the stage. Afterwards, you’re transported to a certain part of the stage depending on if you’re playing as Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles, and race to beat your highest times. According to The Mercury News, there will be an instant reset button and a leaderboard tracking the fastest time in each level.
All three of these extra stages can be played with either Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles.

Sonic Mania’s special stages were first revealed during San Diego Comic-Con during a panel by SEGA. According to DualShockers, all they showed was a still image of one of the special stages and the music that plays during it. SEGA also revealed that the game will have cutscenes similar to Sonic 3 & Knuckles as well as an opening animation for the game reminiscent of Sonic CD’s that will be revealed on August 14.
Sonic Mania is a collaboration between Headcannon, PagodaWest Games, SEGA, and Christian Whitehead offering new levels and updated favorites based on the iconic 2D Sonic the Hedgehog games. The game was revealed on July 22, 2016 during the Sonic the Hedgehog 25th Anniversary Celebration.
Sonic Mania releases on August 15 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
